So, in Innistrad, the "Beginning of a Bloodline" perk requires you to sacrifice an angel(or something of equal holiness/purity). If the setting doesn't have an angel equivalent, what would be some options to fulfill the second requirement?

Let's talk about the Benefactor! How do they look like when they talk to you? Could you describe their personality based on your interactions? What's your relationship?
>>
>>53742017
My fingers are crossed that this jump has a relatively high drawback cap, with all the goodies you're putting into it.
>>
>>53742142
It's gonna be higher than the Himalayas, no need to worry. Unless you're a fairly early chain jumper or not playing a power fantasy. Some of the drawbacks are going to be brutal and probably deserving of a certain more grimdark setting.
>>
>>53742164
Well colour me excited! I love your flavour text, btw. It's a good combination of lore, memes, and interesting ideas wrapped up in solid writing.

Sand drawback?
>>
>>53742239
It's a bane trilogy jump anon, not star wars clone wars.
>>
/jc/, what are you waiting for? How long have you been waiting? How much longer will you wait?
>>
>>53742239
Maybe not sand, but a drawback that has lots of Cortosis ore dust collect on you and ruin your equipment over time. Bane, if you haven't read the trilogy, began life as a destitute and debt bound Cortosis miner on the planet of Apatros.

For some reason my mental image of her is roughly "Haruhi wearing a miko robe". Doesn't have much of a personality like Haruhi, though, much more subdued. At the end of the day she just wants to sit in a nice comfy room while she watches her favorite anime. Which just happens to be me. She'll fangirl at points, but she's not really obsessive about it. More just "oh, that thing you did in the last jump was really cool, where are you going to go to next?"

>>53742105
Well at the start things were pretty peachy. I considered my Benefactor to be my chief ally, even though they only really showed up at the start and end of each jump.

Things hit a rocky patch when I started seriously considering that they were using me for their own ulterior motives, but still 'okay'. It's one thing to intellectually know that you're dancing to a tune, but it's another to wonder why the music is playing in the first place or what happens when the music stops.

Trust hit an all-time low during a particularly nasty string of jumps with very nasty drawbacks and gauntlets in the mid-200's. But it must be said, neither of us totally abandoned the other, falling back on a more formal set of interaction.

A long period of rebuilding trust began as I grappled with what having power meant, as well as a general increase in awareness of what my role was. In this period, I started to hit my stride as a proper Out Of Context entity.
Lessons were learned; a significant chunk of the damage done during the low period was even retroactively repaired.
My benefactor threw a number of tests at me during this long period; but it's a lot easier mentally when you know you're being tested or kept in the dark for a reason rather than 'just because'.

Then the ulterior motive stuff got resolved.
Things are much better now that's over and done with. The way ahead is clear now.

Mine tends to be either a small girl in a ladybug patterned sundress, or, depending on the theme of the chain, a mannequin, ever watching through burning glass eyes, situated in the far corner of my warehouse.
Those don't tend to be fun chains.
>>
>>53742105
Female, average appearance but a bit on the short side.

Jumper starts the chain viewing her as an extremely powerful interdimensional entity, but over the course of the chain jumper starts something resembling a friendship with her and also starts to realize that she's the equivalent of a hikikomori. Post-spark, jumper make a point to occasionally forcibly drag her out of her hole and force her to go on an adventure so that she can get some sunlight.

>>
>>53742105
I don't actually have a Benefactor but my jumper-self doesn't know that. My Benefactor is actually my future Post-Spark self using power-sharing abilities, time-travel and temporal keikaku perks to ensure that my jumper-self choose the same perks and items my PS-self did to complete a closed time-loop that ensure I, as aPost-Spark entity, will come into existence.

Its appearance is randomized each jump, but it always has some element that my jumper-self finds exceedingly familiar but just can't place where or why.

It always makes references and private jokes that my perfect memory will register and some jumps later (sometimes a few, sometimes hundreds) I will understand it because of some event that hadn't happened yet when it told me.

I have never actually 'meet' the Benefactor in person. Because he isn't actually the kind of entity that you can just meet.

Instead, my chain works under the supervision of a middleman-thing under the name of 'Jump-chan'. It likes to take toy-like forms and it's pretty much the kind of an asshole that you would expect to handle a guy like me cosmic powers. It presents me with the options and the end of the Jump and can be summoned to talk with in the Warehouse, although it can't be seen by anyone but me or my companions, or people who are about to join the chain and need to sign the contract.

It usually likes to remain a neutral party, not really minding what I do, although it won't miss the opportunity to let out some snarky comment about some of the more 'relevant' events during the last jump. It won't really help much, but it would at least answer question about the perks and the world as long as it considers it common knowledge that 'a born bald monkey like me should know if I were to do some basic research'.

Our relationship is some kind of awkward mix between that of co-workers and a test-subject and the scientist carrying the experiments. There is no actual hostility because there would be no point on it, but there is also no need for friendship.

That being said about me, it really seems to dislike all of my companions and will just mock them if it has the chance to speak with them.

It has been heavily implied from mid-to-late jumps that Jump-chan was created exclusively for me to have something 'humanoid' to interact, and that the Benefactor is using me, the chain or both as some part of its 'life' cycle. That last one is just Jump-chan's headcanon on the Benefactor,
though, or so it says if you ask it.

>those rules
It's beyond stupid with its religious adherence to Game mechanics. Especially since his interpritation of them is objectively awful. Makes the jumps isolated and HAVE to be done early to not be depowered in the most retarded world destroying way possible.

And makes imported companions have NEGATIVE LEVELS from the start and forces you to deal with shit exp distribution to give them empty levels.

The very fact it got removed from even the SB drive is a testament to how objectively awful these jumps are. Worst off the guy only changed one thing since all the complaints it got...adding mythical leveling and options. This shit isn't even a fun kinda bad like Forgotten Realms. It's just unfun incarnate. Glad everyone agrees this shit should never exist.

My "Benefactor" is actually a pair of married omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient beings that are part of an entire race of similar beings. They're basically preparing me for a fight with the Jumper of a rogue Benefactor, simply because their race isn't allowed to take action themselves; they have to work through intermediaries. But this rogue Benefactor is trying to pull off this cliched plan to destroy all universes and rebuild everything to his whims, so he's gotta be stopped.
Their daughter was my first companion. She was depowered since she wanted to hang around us mortals, so she couldn't pull any shenanigans. I think she likes me.

So I'm a child, but I'm no longer LIMITED as a child would be, I have full power. That's a plus. New complications: conspiracy of universe travellers mucking with things, and Future Crux is on the warpath and is in fact probably responsible for this after his companions left him because he turned out to be an asshat.
Some of these drawbacks didn't exist when I made the build previously, and they make for a more compelling narration.

>"But..."
>"You know..."
>"What?"
>"Come on..."
>"What's happening?"
>"Bobby... you're--"

CLANG. Jean Gray crumbles into a pile as a flying instrument of Asgardian doom grazes her temple. I jog up, moments later. "Oh crap, that's where I sent Thor's hammer! Sorry about that! I'll help Jean, you have somewhere else to be, Bobby."

>"I what?"

I wave my hand. "I said you have somewhere else to be."

>"...I have somewhere else to be."

I haul the redheaded strumpet to her feet as Iceman walks off, shedding the twelve year old facade into something more... me. "Now then. You listen to me, you little red-dye-using harlot, and yes I know that's not your natural color because you've been coloring it ever since that boy caught your eye in fourth grade and you conned your mom into it. You use the mind-whammy on anyone else again. Ever. Fucking EVER. And I will ERASE YOU FROM EXISTENCE."

>"You can't--! Why can't I--?!"

"Because omega-class or not, you're a fucking pitiful excuse for a human, and I? I am as far above you as humans are above a god damned grasshopper. And I noticed your attempt to get into my head just now. You tried to steal that boy's free will... after all you got away with blanking someone's mind earlier. You thought no one else would notice? You're wrong."

>"Let me go! Bobby! Someone! Help!"

"They can't hear you, Jean, they can't even see anything out of the ordinary. Not nice when someone's screwing with peoples' minds, right? And I feel you trying to use telekinesis to fight me. I didn't take away your powers, I'm countering them, and do you know how delicate I have to be to meet it with a matching force and not hurt you? If I wasn't careful you'd be PASTE ON THE GROUND!" And to demonstrate the point, she slams into a nearby tree, painlessly, but held firmly in place.
>>
>>53743888

>"What... what do you want?"

I fix her with a level stare. "I want you to use your god damn brain. You're supposed to be a hero, aren't you? Act the part. Play mind games again... and your friends pay the forfeit along with you."

>"You monster..."

"Only because this is what I must do to get the goddamn message to sink in. Who's the monster here, Jean? Act like a decent human being, don't muck in people's minds without reason, and everyone is fine! What kind of threat is 'don't be a dick because it'll screw over your time-displaced friends'? Then again with friends like you... maybe it would be more merciful for them to forget they ever knew anyone named Jean. Do we understand each other?"

>"Yes... damn you, I understand."

I release the pressure holding Jean in place and she slips back to the floor. "Incidentally, you don't want to mention this exchange to anyone. But this is out of character for you, too - I take no pleasure in this, but someone else has messed with YOUR mind. Also watch yourself around older men when you finally get home, yeah? There's some creepy attraction thing going on, and I can name at least two who are three times your age that want to get in your pants."

>"W-what? Now you're just messing with me."

"Oh no, I assure you I am not... but to be fair, only one of them gets into your pants," I tell her as I stroll off, resuming my prior form.

>"No. No. Nooope."

...that exchange felt a little too satisfying...

Really, everything I'd written up previously happened as it happened. I took pleasure in taking the wind out of several idiots' sails. And then the incident with Jean happened. And then I started to look deeper. And once I looked deep enough, I found the cause. Travellers from other worlds. Other Marvel worlds, mind you, but other worlds, and many with a diverse collection of abilities that they were using to play with the world around them like they were badly made cut-out characters.

My companions and I engaged them directly, and it worked... not so well. It wasn't a matter of them being better - they were on equal standing with my companions, which put them damn close to me, and every time we got the upper hand, they'd flee.

And so, I cheated.

We began provoking them, drawing them away one at a time... and then I'd lock them in a room with a moose, disappear into the time-accelerated secure room in the warehouse, and we would systematically disassemble them. With the joys of teleportation and time running at 9500 times normal speed, we were finally able to get them all in one fell swoop - though it looked as though I, Carbon, and Imaginos were grabbing them and teleporting away in rapid succession.

After that, though... well, it turns out that a future version of me had been the one responsible for it. He'd tried to stifle my powers, to lock me onto the path that brought him into existence, but the powers... were mine. Not his. And his existence, time-displaced, set him apart from me.

We had the presence of mind to take ourselves off of Earth when the machinations became too much and we finally fought directly. My companions tagged in and out when they could.

The heavens trembled. Planets shattered in our wake. Stars were harnessed, used for power to fuel our fight. At least we avoided any civilizations.

The only way I won was by running out the clock.

Every time I face a version of myself, it gets worse. I hope I never have to do that again.

Mine call themselves Coordinators. I use the plural because I've had two of them so far and they've made every indication that there will be more in the future. But they keep changing the rules just when I get a handle on them, so I'm only guessing at this point.

They don't give their names, so I've taken to calling them by their distinguishing characteristics. The first was the Faceless. A well dressed man, roughly six feet tall, pale skin, but as the name suggests, that's about all I know. His face had some kind of obscuring effect on it. You could look at it and see his features, the color of his hair, the shape of his nose, but the instant you looked away it vanished from your memories. Trying to stare at it too laugh produced nausea. He started out business-like, but became more antagonistic and sadistic as the Jumps progressed.

The second I just met for the first time recently, despite them Coordinating several Jumps for me. The Warmonger preferred to communicate with short notes and let me go about my business, but was quick to show up when I defied their demands. They had feminine facial features, but the lean body of a young man, and a childish voice. They seemed... spoiled. As if they were used to individuals who were more willing to do what they commanded without being balked. The Warmonger actually seemed to sulk and then lashed out like a child might when defied. But it was only a brief conversation. It all could be an act. I wouldn't put it past any of them.

That's actually canon, Crux. There was an arc in She-Hulk where there was an alternate universe, Earth-A, where anyone who came from it to Earth-616 got the powers of their equivalent in that timeline, and then most of them were jerks who used those powers to play around at being superheroes and damn the consequences for their counterpart. And then it ended with the wormholes to Earth-A being closed, but them never being sure they wouldn't open again someday, so everyone agreed to assume that if anyone ever acted wildly out of character it was just the work of some A-Hole.

Of all places, it's my return to Dunwall that weighs on my mind. Because that's where the Benefactor broke one of the most sacred trusts between us. I tried to overlook it, but then there was the Catbox and-to make a long story short, we both came away with metaphorical bloody noses from that one.

I can feel her eyes on me now. She says nothing, very pointedly-nor has she explained where those 50 choice points went.

I'm too old inside to play schoolboy, so I messed with the school records and got myself employed as the class homeroom teacher. I am stern, cold, exacting-and excessively critical of the class' academical abilities. I make it clear the reason I hold the class an extra five minutes from break is because of the loud girl in the back playing with her talismans.

"Ms. Suzumiya, there is no need for you to be playing with those toys" (red truth)
"They're not toys! I need them to pick up electric signals!" she retorts, nervously staring at the nearby angry glares. "Also-I didn't put those up!"
"Then who did?"
"Well...I'm not saying it was aliens, but..."
"..."
"...it was probably...MIKURU!" she yells triumphantly. A nearby girl starts crying on cue.

Around us, her causality manifold clashes with my synchronicity maelstrom.

Under my desk, a fist tightens on All-Black's hilt.

Go to Master of Magic. Use global enchantments. Charm of Life makes everyone 25% healthier as a baseline (so if you were to live to 80, you'd live to 100?, etc), Herb Mastery heals everyone fully at the start of their turn (day?). Look for things like that, where everyone gets healed as long as they live through a fight.

Or go to Marvel and get energy+healing factor+speed and shoot people with beams that make them regenerate like Wolverine.

The next couple of months involve a series of calls to Haruhi's parents and a formal hearing about undiagnosed bipolar personality disorder. I leverage all of this to systematically stamp out every iota of wonder in her life, forcing responsibility on her with the threat of disbanding the Brigade. Or putting them all in detention

It is a delicate balance between dulling her spirit, and sending her into a dangerous breakdown. Fortunately, I know despair like Mozart knows music.

At the end of another day, I spy her crying on Kyon's shoulder.

...I have to focus on the astral plane. I have to remember what this /abomination/ is.

Teaching the Sky Canopy Dominion about applied humanities is simple. With aspects of Death and Delight as my teaching assistants, I spend a lot of afternoons behind a sock puppet theater.

The others have their hands full with future refugees, strongarming the Data Overmind from taking over Earth and relocating the stars. All of them have made cases against my plans.

No. This is what I have /dedicated my existence/ towards doing. I have to stop her, she doesn't-

-it. It doesn't know what it's doing.

"SIR!"

Haruhi's just-there, in my office. As I predicted; she's nearing a critical state.

I just have to sign one form to exploit it.

"Please don't disband the SOS Brigade! W-we've found-things! Things that mean we're a legitimate club and not a bunch of slackers!" she cries, shoving photos of data lifeforms all over my desk.

I stare at her. As politely as I can, I ask if she thinks this makes up for all the havoc she's caused.

"That's not true! I'M SORRY! I didn't mean to cause all this trouble! I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE!"

. . .

Every weapon in my arsenal was trained on one highschool. Operative word. Was.

The Necrosword drops from my slack fingers

I stare at her fear. Her desperation. Her very, very human embarrassment.

...son of a virgin madonna, she's just like Tim. How could I have been so blind?

What am I DOING?

I.

I brought her to this point. She's my responsibility.

So I...told her everything was going to be okay. Told her she needed to give respect to get respect, and that she had to stop skipping out on her therapy sessions to be a productive member of society.

The hug was not as planned though, after I put the damn paper in the damn papershredder. It was a good hug, even if I had to kneel down to do it. Even if it made my false flesh crawl i protest, and every Charm in my makeup sound conceptual alarm bells. It was a good hug because it was like we were both letting go of huge fuckups.

It's been almost a decade. Data biology has become a recognised science, pioneered by the child prodigies formerly known as the SOS Brigade. and at her graduation speech Haruhi namedrops both Lovecraft ("We may live on a placid island amidst black seas of infinity-but as a scientist, I believe we were meant to journey far!") and me ("As scary Mr. Anon-san once told me, the truth is out there! And I'd like to thank you all for coming to find it with me!"). It's an inspiring call to adventure, extolling science with magic as a metaphor.

I don't know what I've come away from this world with. I came prepared for a cosmic war, and came away with some teaching accolades.

"Sometimes, we need to show the people we care about how much we trust them. You of all people should know this" said someone by my shoulder. "I never meant to hurt you, or show you the worst of what I once was. I didn't quite know how this would pan out. But I'm glad after all we've been through, there's still more to you than hate"

I stare into Yasumi Watahashi's eyes, and know fear. Too late, I remember there was no rational reason for Outer Gods to honor concepts such as spatial consistency.

All this time, I thought HARUHI was the Fulcrum.

She laughs. "Don't you see? Like your boy wizard's Other, I'm just the part of her she made to deal with a crisis she couldn't. You didn't think what will become your Benefactor long after all of this" she waved at the world "is dust, would be bound by trifles like reality and causality right? Well, it's a different crisis now-but I'm still me"

Words fail me.

"Ehehe, Outer Goddess rather~"

When did she link arms with me? Why am I suddenly paying for ice cream?!

"Oh RELAX-the bit of her that's me is still mostly human! You were right the first time-we're just vestiges. I'm less than a wisp of everything she will be. Can you believe it, all this time watching you and I've never experienced that famous Jumper charm firsthand? Or um. Any charm at all". She ducked her head, suddenly. "Y-you'll be gentle, right?"

And.

This may or may not help explain the build I just posted:

The Benefactor is the ultimate mindscrew, and looks like a pandimensional kaleidoscope of events from every world there ever was and could be happening all at once. Despite this, she also comes across like a cute dorky girl in the same way people think Yog-Sothoth is somewhat male. This may or may not be because of my puny mind's inability to comprehend her true nature.

Anyway, there are-somewhat consistent patterns in the mess. There are certain beings out there the Benefactor has some sort of vaguely defined affinity to-generally female entities associated with causality or dimensional boundaries. It's hard to be sure, but I currently think they PROBABLY existed before she did, and she sort of arose from them the idea of them like a collective tulpa before evolving into a sort of quantum superposition that lives in the gaps between worlds.

(In short, just so we're clear, Haruhi/Yasumi is NOT supposed to be the actual Benefactor. More like her appendix; something that used to be a vital part of her long before she was anything like she is. But now just sort of dangles around doing it's own thing in the multiverse)

She also plays a mean game of Marvel vs Capcom, didn't used to get out very much and really like slice of life animes for some reason.

> strongarming the Data Overmind from taking over Earth

There's something I thought I should mention concerning this. I'm not sure how much the 'Strange Aeon' drawback would affect things, but if the Data Overmind is anything like its canon equivalent this is both pointless and contradicts its goals.

The former because it's a formless entity (and/or collective of entities) that's occupied the galaxy since the universe began.

The second is because unlike a lot of things that can be considered eldritch horrors the Data Overmind considers humanity or at least it's potential (and by extension Earth) important. Which is the entire reason it has interfaces observing them.

Sure you probably wouldn't approve of it's reason why, mostly since it's fairly close to "They can learn. Didn't think that was possible. Maybe if we spy on them we can unlock spiral power.", but threatening Earth and by proxy humanity is a hindrance to this.

The Benefactor took exception to the Outsider's hijacking of my FIRST jump there, and used her drawback technology to turn me into an unwitting calamity sink to bring ruin upon the city-and even the odds of Delilah winning.

...shoot, you're right. Missed that in the update, gonna have to sleep on that extra CP

...fragments? I spent most of that jump being dragged from bossfight to bossfight by Morrigan. Ex-Benefactor-bits aren't all that common in the multiverse, and I definitely don't remember any of them being there. Also I call 'em Fulcrums.

>>53744472
I assumed the Strange Aeons drawback would make its' interest a lot more malevolent in your standard Lovecraftian alien way, somehow? Maybe like the Colour out of Space, they start giving people around them the heebie jeebies, or like the Yithians the humanoid interfaces were actually made by bodyswap shenanigans?

The companions assigned to attack it definitely aren't the threaten humanity type, though. They do, however, have several ways to engage intangible masses of data-not least, the magic system from Mahouka. Also my understanding from the wiki is the Overmind is managed by conservative data entities somewhere, so they'd be tearing off through the void of space to blast them with antimemetics and beyond-fire until they backed off.

It mostly calls me over the phone, there always seems to be an old, unplugged hardline phone when it wants to talk to me. It's voice is distorted and inhuman. Usually it asks me questions over the last jump. What I was feeling, why I decided to perform a particular action. Sometimes it praises me for something. Often contradictory reasons.

Later in the chain I remember seeing it when I agreed to become a jumper, and I wonder just what it is I agreed to.

When the two Eldrazi were slain in Zendikar, their essence exploded into the Eternities as fragments. One of these fragments had experienced their equivalent of brain damage and scrambled to find a frame of reference for itself, and it found the collective desires of humanity across many Earths. It...she, in turn, felt the desire to experience what they wanted. This desire created a pocket plane around them in which they were all-powerful and 'free' of their limitations...but could only make pale imitations, and their true form would shatter planes if she tried to manifest.

Eventually, she became lonely and desperate to understand the missing link between her world and other worlds. Then, somehow, I stumbled onto her box while she was observing my Earth.

She's gentle and surprisingly soft-hearted considering her origins and power, and is...deeply invested in my survival. I'm happy about it, but it also frightens me - if I ever screwed up hard enough she'd personally intervene, an entire world and all those I knew within it could be undone. I don't want that to happen, and I don't want to add to her burdens.

We were both 'incomplete' in different ways, and use each other to fill the gap. That sort-of symbiosis is how my relationship with her works. I just...wish I could actually pay her back, somehow. Nothing I do can ever repay that debt.

It also begs the question...what happened to the -other- Eldrazi that died?

Sort of. She's not exactly all-powerful (at least two beings have hijacked the chain before), and life she creates misses a certain 'spark' of life to it. I don't think she can recreate the soul very well. Stronger might not be the right word for it. More like 'incompatible' with other planes.

That's why she needs me as a proxy to connect to other worlds in a much 'smaller' form.

Out of character, chalk it up to the eldritch equivalent of insanity and a lot of energy collected from human thoughts and emotions across the Multiverse. Yuki's entire existence is a paradox. I'm sure to other Titans or similar beings, she looks like a child or someone who recently had brain damage.

Hi~~~

>>53744770
I could make a table of contents with easily searchable references if you'd like?
lt would make things a bit easier to navigate.

>>53744852
Yes, although it costs 700CP in total to get that.
Do you think that is too powerful?

>>53744915
Let me put it this way. Calling it Invincibility is being really really generous.
You become as durable as though you were made of metal rather than flesh, but you benefit a bit less proportionately when it comes to Magic Resistence.
But as a Power fueled by magic, it takes power to protect you from harm and once you are dry it can't protect you at all. It can also be overwhelmed or overpowered.
I'll see about clarifying the wording of the Power in the next version to make that clear.
Beyond that, fanwank the exact limits.

I am looking quite closely at perks like that where their limits aren't clear and will be changing some of them, so please keep an eye on it in the newer updates, just in case.
>>
>>53744574

> I assumed the Strange Aeons drawback would make its' interest a lot more malevolent in your standard Lovecraftian alien way, somehow?

Like I said I'm not sure how it would affect things. Although in 'canon' it's interests are less benevolent and more "These things literally completely defy our understanding of how the universe works. This seems important".

Basically from what I can tell you and they would probably have the exact same reaction (although for different reasons) to stuff like Cthulhu's potential return if their anywhere close to their canon counterparts.

>Maybe like the Colour out of Space, they start giving people around them the heebie jeebies,

However this part is potentially canon. Directly observing their 'true forms' (for lack of a better term) can risk damaging a human mind do to the equivalent of 'you tried downloading too much information on to a computer at once'.

>or like the Yithians the humanoid interfaces were actually made by bodyswap shenanigans?

I could actually see at least some factions trying this. Although considering the above I'm not sure if it would work.

>The companions assigned to attack it definitely aren't the threaten humanity type, though.

I was referring to the Overmind for that part.

>Also my understanding from the wiki is the Overmind is managed by conservative data entities

That's both accurate and slightly wrong. Basically the Data Overmind despite the name implying a unified will is more of a democracy. The conservatives are currently the dominant political party.

>somewhere, so they'd be tearing off through the void of space to blast them with antimemetics and beyond-fire until they backed off.

When I said that they occupied the galaxy since the universe began I was being literal. Data entities were born when the universe began, and the 'space' their databases correspond to grew grew with the universe. The Data Overminds database corresponding to the Milky Way Galaxy.
>>
>>53744932
Move your leg to the right.
>>
>>53744974
>Do you think that is too powerful?
Nah, not really. The powers you can get aren't really all that powerful, I just buy them so I'm appropriately thematic.

>You become as durable as though you were made of metal rather than flesh, but you benefit a bit less proportionately when it comes to Magic Resistence.
So it's not the kind of Invincibility shown in the series? 'Cause according to the wiki people with that ability are basically immune to most stuff except things like potions specifically made for them. But yeah, a clarification in the document would be nice.
>>
>>53744974
>Yes, although it costs 700CP in total to get that.
Ooops, forgot to mention that unless you are entering as a Neutral, then you'd al to purchase Black Sheep for 200CP, bringing it to 900CP in total. Sorry.

You know, if you went in Neutral, became a Witch/Warlock Twicebless and was only interested in spending to get more Powers, you could get 1800 CP (base plus drawbacks) less 700cp, giving you 1100CP and 2000PP, which you could then convert CP to PP using Hybrid Vigor to give you 3100PP in total to spend.
Is that too much?
Should I try and reduce things?

>>53745024
Giving actual true blue invincibility would probably get me reee'd out of the thread, even with an escape clause like a customised potion.
I could make the protection scale with the Jumper's magical power, with the price of it consuming more. What do you think?
>>

>>53744674

>>

>>
>>53745049
Honestly, Charmed isn't really a high-powered setting. I'd say offer the "Invincibility" shown in the series, but put a note somewhere that guys from other settings would be able to overpower it were they stronger than the ones from Charmed. Or just go with the magical power option, or combine them. I don't really have any preference.
As for the points stuff, not really. Most of the powers are on the level of "throw lightning/fireball" anyway, so you wouldn't get much value from spending all those points on powers. Besides, you'd be sacrificing all your CP to get to that point value. Really, it might actually be too expensive.

I think you've already made the powerlevel clear, at least to me. This note was enough I think:
>To put Powers into scale for those unfamiliar with the show, most offensive Powers are effective on a personal level, where one person is attacking another, with a few powers being area-of-effect, and even they can only really affect a fair-sized room. The largest destructive Power usage in the show, a confrontation between five very powerful witches using high-end offensive Powers, resulted in an explosion which demolished a manor.

As for Invincibility, it might be a good idea to let us decide which version we want. Either "frontloading" it so to speak so that you are already invincible in this setting, or making it grow in relation to your magical power in exchange for it starting rather weak.
>>
>>53745225
Hey, the numerical limit on Power Mimicry isn't canon, right? Would you just bump it up to 1000 and remove the limit? I'd say that would make it comparable to Projection.
>>
>>53745225

Is there any reason why Transformation, a subpower of Molecular Manipulation, is only able to transform things for a limited time? It feels quite silly to literally change the whole molecular structure and shape of something only for it to just pop back in a few hours. I didn't find anything about this time limit on the wiki either, so I'd love it if you could just do away with it. Maybe it's just me autistic, but Molecular Manipulation is one of the more "scientific" powers, so it behaving in such an irrational manner is quite irritating.

For Justice the benefactor never has the same appearance twice. Their appearance is usually some form of reference to the upcoming jump, to the jump Justice just left, or just a joke of some kind. Their personality is mischievous, and out for some fun, but pushes Justice and intentionally puts him in situations where he has to "put up or shut up" when it comes to his ideals. Justice honestly considers his benefactor to be his best friend after all this time, and they will sometimes appear in the middle of a jump just to talk or mess with Justice.

I never decided on an appearance for Tiger's benefactor, but this being is much more of a dick. Generally liking to make Tiger suffer, forcing him to take drawbacks he doesn't want, letting Ammy control his choices in some jumps, etc. He is not a fan of his benefactor.

My newest character, Iga Washi, his benefactor is a very creepy figure. I'm not quite sure what I want their relationship to be yet, nor what I want the benefactor's goals to be. But they are just really fucking creepy.

Thank you very much Anon. I'll add that to Invincibility.

>>53745292
I'm inclined to say okay, but I think I'll need to look at that in terms of how to handle the immunities that come with it.
If I remove the cap on both powers and immunities it would give a major burden to someone jumping to keep track of what they are immune to and from who.

Given the downside of having to take some real risks accumulating Powers, i don't think they'd be a need to attach a mandatory drawback to it like Projection.

Hmm, leave it with me and expect to see it change in the next version.

>>53745357

Main Chain, the benefactor is... The Cat. Nobody knows where The Cat came from, or why it does what it do. All I know is every time I meet The Cat, it's in a different form of cat, but the color is always the same - stark, shining white, with blue and orange eyes. Whenever it wishes to speak to me, it will always appear somewhere - either invisible to all but me, or interacting with one person or another. If the situation is severe enough, it will always bat me into a cold, white void.

And it always has the voice of Alan Rickman.

It's been weird, how it has interacted or worked with the universes I've been dropped off into. For some reason, despite The Outsider picking me up as a random floating fragment between worlds The Cat was less infuriated, and more amused - and... since then I think The Outsider, following along as he has been, has been "apprenticed" by The Cat. Then there's the other Jumpers that The Cat has chosen along the war - Char Aznable. Gul'dan. Jack Sparrow. Eggman & Wily. Gaius Van Baelsar. The Doom Marine. Others I will never meet or have yet to come face-to-face with.

I don't know what The Cat wants, but given how this journey has gone, I'm almost afraid to ask.

There's no direct interaction. All Jumper knows is that every ten years or so he gets relocated to another world. He gets no say in how he comes in or what he gets, though he believes that he does in fact receive what would be his prime choices if given the option. Most of the time.
But in the fraction of a second that he exists outside of all realities as he moves between worlds, he has the most intense feeling of being watched. By someone, or something. At this point he is 100% certain that this thing is what is moving him, but it's motivations or personality are complete mysteries.

His current top two theories are that he's some sort guinea pig, or an exotic pet.

Strong enough to pimp-slap Doctor Fate is not as weak as you're implying.

Most of Dr. Strange's "fights" against Dormmammu consist of him trying to prevent the full power Dormmammu from actually manifesting in reality. Still doesn't change how Dormmammu is immensely feared by the Hell Lords (he could apparently beat all of them at the same time) and is considered much stronger than people like Odin.

And Trigon is considered a galactic threat, at the very least.

Think more physical elements and stuff that could conceivably appear in an 80s action movie as a norse/viking god's element?

Poison seems like it'd probably fine? Forest doesn't seem like an element to me, though just 'plants' or something could work.

>>53747122
With what's available in the jump, almost completely impossible.
>>
Does this perk seem alright?

Unbreakable [100cp]: Shields and swords can be powerful tools, much more so when they are made unbreakable. While you are not truly so, your physical form is completely indestructible and impervious to visible damage, being unscathed by blades and bullets alike and preventing disintegration of all kinds. However, this does not prevent your demise, as you will still receive the full brunt of the damage you would normally take in the form of mental strain, and once it reaches the point it would normally be lethal your mind will be broken, leaving you brain dead and ending your chain.

It's pretty survivable.

Ultimately, Bayonetta saves the day. With what you get in the jump, you can easily survive a few natural disasters, and have a good chance of making a difference if you do want to get involved.

It's more a matter of skill, style, and audacity than raw power. If you think you lack those, then taking a background will help.

>>53747268

With those you'd probably be fine.

Tsundachi and Yandachi can clear mooks like nobodies business, and Yandachi turns them into your own ghoulish slaves and makes you massively more durable to boot.
Dandachi has healing sorted.
Kuudachi is a great choice for both long-range attacks and running away.
Himedachi is a fantastic weapon in a drawn-out battle - and both the angelic and demonic hierarchies have blood for her to poison.
Kamidachi would probably be willing to let you wield her against the really powerful opponents (there is no goddess but Kamidachi, and she is your goddess), which would not end well for them - they're pretty damn arrogant at the best of times.

>representative of the rest of the jump
Of course if you take a drawback that arbitrarily transplants another version of one of the most powerful characters in the setting, offers 1000 CP, AND uncaps the drawback limit, it'll be more dangerous. How you think that's representative of the overall power-levels of the setting is beyond me. And that tends to be true for 600+ CP drawbacks in all jumps, in that they're usually challenges far above what the jump offers you. You might as well say that no jumps at all are good early-chain jumps.

And I think you've got that backwards, senpai. Maybe you're just an asshole, but it seems more likely you're a shitposter yourself.

Is a Generic Isekai Jump really necessary when Jumpchain is already pretty much an Isekai adventure? A person reincarnating continuously into new worlds with a broken power (CP Purchasing).

I mean, Isekai Stories are all almost purely about how the broken protagonist interacts with a usually generic as hell setting, either as they go through the motions to escalate or dominate everything else. What's the point?

Isekai, being light novels usually, tend to do a lot to subvert tropes in its own formula though. It's kind of like Xianxia, except instead of always being the same, it's always the same with an emphasized twist, usually along the lines of being born as a monster, or doing something weird like completely ignoring the worlds problems to go on a vacation.
>>
>>53748208
I'll take a look

>>53748210
People have been requesting it for a while and I enjoy the genre for the most part, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

>>
>>53747956
>Generic Videogame Developer
>You're really bad at shitposting.
I wonder what it would look like if you took all the drawbacks you could to take as many perks as you could there, what you would end up with?
Like Steve Jobs as a Lex Luthor style DC villain.
You've got 'consumers form cults of personality around you because of your awesome products'
You've got 'you are an awesome businessman'
You've got 'you can make products that are actually good in programming/ aesthetics/ physical components'
You've got 'even if you put out an inferior products they still sell like hotcakes and get good reviews'
You've got a CP mini-fabricator that is optimized for video game hardware, which is basically computers with a different name if you don't jailbox them.

You've got the only blatent superpower stickong out a bit, where you can summon images into the real world (at knight in shining armor power level)

And my favorite, "You can make code that is actually efficient, easily modifiable, and refines itself over time"

A lot of cool stuff, but even if you had every perk and item in the jump, you top out at a low level Lex Luthor, with completely implausible business mogul skills and cinematic inventing ability, of the better existing stuff variety, not teleporters or time machines.
>>
>>53748215
Looks good, mostly. Little curious why Power Absorption costs the same as Mimicry, since Mimicry seems flat out better in every way?
>>
>>53748332
But we're literally already doing that with Jumpchain. People ignore the plots of a Jump all the time to do their own thing, and drawbacks that sap your abilities or turn you into monsters are scattered about too. The twists and high points of good Isekai are all basically how it's written. We've already got the good parts of Isekai, the Jump can't really somehow emphasize the writing style.

>>53748373
I'm not saying I dislike the genre or anything, but what would the Jump even be about other than getting a broken power in a generic fantasy world?

>>53748381
Isekai is a genre based on the protagonist dying or being otherwise transported to a new world (usually fantasy with variable traits, usually lots of monsters) and getting gifted with a great power that may or may not be sold as something shit until they break it and the setting over their knee. Isekai stories often employ mmo stats and terms even in worlds that may not be video games. Most of the draw from the story standpoint is in the writing.
>>
>>53748460
Both let you get Powers, but both have downsides.
Absorption obliges you to singlehandedly kill a target, while Mimicry means you have to survive a hit from that Power.
Both are pretty big downsides since there no guarantee you'll survive either. Of course there are certainly specific examples of foes where it would be eaiser to use Absorption and other where it would be better to have Mimicry, but on the whole I think they are about equally likely.

Is is the Immunity element of mimcry you are referring to perhaps?
I was thinking of just removing it.
>>
>>53748215
Okay so the notes say:
>. Whether it makes your magic more power, plentiful, regenerate faster, or extend its duration. It cannot be shared.
But you said that raw power is shared between the Link, so if something is just boosting how much power you have or how fast they regenerate, that means that other Avatars can benefit from that indirectly by tapping into your pool of power, but those abilities don't directly affect their own power pools?
>>
>>53748215
> with no ambiguity or meaningful assistance from 3rd parties.
Is this canon? Does the Power really arbitrarily check that you didn't have any help whatsoever through some sort of pseudo-omniscience?

>Truly unique magical qualities cannot be shared.
Why? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

>Stolen Powers will always lag behind natural Powers by a modest margin.
>You run the risk of not gaining all or any Powers from the act of murder if your target is significant stronger than you.
You would have to kill them, so why is this even a thing? Also, considering Warlocks and other users of this ability can steal powers from Demons and similar beings, it seems ill-advised, like not letting you do exactly what the Power was intended to.

>Racial benefits cannot be shared.
Is that not literally what Immunity and Orbing are?

>Godhood may not be shared, including any benefits given by divine portfolio or Domain unless the other participants are also Gods
Again, seems arbitrary.

>So, no... Reality Warping better than Projection, or anything along those lines.
Why are you limiting it in this way? Seems just like inter-jump balance.

I seriously question if you think that Power Absorption with all these new nerfs is somehow worth the same price as what is basically Reality Warping/every power ever as Projection, when it does nothing by itself and you'd have to defeat your enemies in the first place. Hell, it's not even worth as much as an Athame, now. Also, the price doesn't really seem justified when it's a relatively common ability in-setting.
>>
>>53748373
>I thought I'd give it a shot.
And I hope it turns out well so we can all enjoy it.

>>53748381
>what should I look at to get a good a understanding of what the Generic would be about
If manga is your thing, check out Kumo Desu Ga. I feel the art really adds something to that story.
Mushoku Tensei is a pretty popular LN/manga, and we have a jump for it.
Youjo Senki is a bit different from most Isekai, as it takes place in magical WW1 or 2. Manga or Light Novel, anime has garnered mixed reactions. Somebody is working on a jump for that, too.
>>
>>53748381
I've read as much as I have because the chapters are short and simple. It's not like a standard book where a single chapter can last 20 to 100 pages. We don't have many jumps probably because a lot of them aren't super popular, not to mention many are still ongoing/in their infancy.

The generic is going to cover a general overview of what isekai stories are like. I've personally really liked Overlord, Mushoku Tensei, and Death March, but I'd also recommend a lot of the stuff from >>53747479. Read a few, see if you like any

>>53748533
What is any generic about? It's the same as any Isekai or jump, 10 years in a fantasy world and you make the story.
>>
>>53748215
>Modified Power Absorption
Now it has literally no benefits compared to the Athame. Why would anyone pay 1000 CP for something that's worthless by itself?
>>
>>53748533
That argument can basically be used to justify never making a jump for any genre at all though. 'Why bother making a jump when jumpchain can already facilitate that? What's the point of having more jumps besides giving out more power?' is a really bad and stupid argument.
>>
>>53748215
Going to have to agree that Power Absorption should just go back to what it was. Having to kill someone to get their powers is generally a bigger cost than just surviving an attack or touching them.
>>
>>53748215
>You run the risk of not gaining all or any Powers from the act of murder if your target is significant stronger than you.
This part really doesn't make any sense. You already have to kill them completely on your own, why would you not be able to steal the Powers of beings if you can kill them, even if they are stronger than you?
>>
>>53748723
But this isn't for any Jump ever, Generic Isekai is the exact same as Generic Fantasy but with a broken powers being on the table for purchase, even by Tamerai's own admission above, here >>53748657 . So, like, what's the point besides getting broken powers?
>>
>>53748596
>Is this canon? Does the Power really arbitrarily check that you didn't have any help whatsoever through some sort of pseudo-omniscience?
No. Two Titans kill Whitelighters together and both steal the ability to Orb.
>>
>>53748546
Yes, that is correct. They can and do indirectly benefit from the perk as you are have more power to provide, but they don't each seperately benefit from your perk.
Do you think I should sharpen up the wording for that?

>>53748596
>Is this canon?
Every demonstration of it in canon has been a one-on-one confrontation.

>Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?
No. Because that isn't the purpose of the perk.

>>53748596
>Also, considering Warlocks and other users of this ability can steal powers from Demons and similar beings,
That comment is true for all Powers you gain that you aren't born with or gain from CP. It's just repeated in the text as a reminder.

>>53748596
>Is that not literally what Immunity and Orbing are?
The Race options give Powersets and those Powers can be shared. I was more intending that to be referring to Races in other jumps.
For eample, you can't jump to Young Justice, become a Martian and share the benefits of that through Avatar Link. That's not what it is for.

>>53748596
>Again, seems arbitrary.
Godly stuff can only be handled by Gods. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
It may be better for me to broaden that out and say the other member sof the Link have to be able to meet prerequisites and leave it at that. Give the jumper a bit more freedom of interpretation.

>>53748596
>Why are you limiting it in this way? Seems just like inter-jump balance.
I'll look at that again.

>>53748596
>Also, the price doesn't really seem justified when it's a relatively common ability in-setting.
The Athame is, the Power isn't. But you have a point. I'll take a good hard look at those things and see about them.

Thanks for the feedback, Anon.

>>53748682
>>53748739
Okay, there definitely seems to be a consensus here. I'll look into it.

>>53748772
Good point.
>>
>>53748381
>why don't we have more jumps for these properties?
It's the same problem that most genres have in jumpchain, too many settings, too few interested jumpmakers. Even if you assume that every jumpmaker will make fifty individual jumps from unique settings, there still wouldn't be enough jumpmakers to cover over the entire range.
>>
So what settings actually have things you could use Power Absorption/Mimicry on, because I'm drawing a blank. Supernatural angels, maybe?
>>
>>53748798
Gee, idono, maybe because ITS A GENRE OF FICTION IN AN OF ITSELF?! Get over yourself, you don't get to invalidate settings from jumpchain because you don't think they're very interesting.

From the wiki: http://charmed.wikia.com/wiki/The_Titans
>Their ultimate goal was to seek revenge against the Elders and regain control of the world. Their first step then was to turn two Whitelighters to stone, and steal their ability to orb, as it's the only way to get "up there."
>>
Alright, so Young Justice looks a little better for a frist jump than kirby. If I go martian and (drain-no, incomprehensible, and removed from context), will I survive taking the 'shitty martian' drawback alongisde never a dull moment?
>>
>>53748818
Alright, that one is a big problem for me:
>truly unique magical qualities cannot be shared.
Why? I'd assume most people would use Power Absorption to get abilities that could be considered unique. There is really no reason for that limit.
>>
>>53748798
The point is to let people go into settings which currently don't have jumps. Same reason why the other Generics like Wuxia exists.
>>
>>53748839
No clue. With that "no unique stuff" clause in place it's practially useless to me.
>>
>>53748798
See, at this point, I'm just convinced you're shitposting to justify this jump not getting made on the basis of it being a powergrab for some inane reason that makes no actual sense. This is a jump based on a category of stories which exist.

The justification that you're using to justify shitposting that a jump shouldn't be made is that the stories themselves are written a certain way, which is retarded.
>>
>>53748818
>Do you think I should sharpen up the wording for that?
I think it's fine. My reading comprehension is just bad and i wanted to check.

>become a Martian and share the benefits of that through Avatar Link.
...Well Martians aren't magical.

>Godly stuff can only be handled by Gods.
That's very rarely true. In most settings, including Charmed to my knowledge, divine power can and is used by humans. From the discussion earlier of Marvel gods, Thor's whole thing is that his power is in his hammer and can be used by anyone it deems worthy.

And I just want to say that I really feel bad about all of this. You're being run ragged here and you've already put in so much work.
>>
>>53748926

Anon, I don't know how it can be more clear that Isekai is Fantasy with a different writing style and broken powers, and the Jump can't enforce a certain writing style, just deal with the substance of a setting or in this case genre, which is fantasy and broken powers. Everything that could be achieved with an Isekai Generic could be achieved with a Fantasy Generic, besides selling broken powers. Why not just make a specific Isekai setting instead if he likes the genre so much?

I'm going to give up since it seems like nobody agrees with me, so let me just ask, why would you guys want a Generic Isekai instead of a Generic Fantasy?

Pic-related doesn't really look like a one-on-one confrontation to me, unless I'm missing something.

Then define "unique ability". Because as far as I can tell, powers in this setting aren't literally mass-produced in a factory.

I more meant it for the "killing beings significantly stronger than you", which Demons tend to be for Warlocks.

I was under the impression that you wouldn't transfer psychic abilities anyway, since they usually aren't magic.

Sure.

Okay.

Yeah, no problem.
>>
>>53748798
The point is that for most genres, you'll never get a jump for every story told in those genres. By way of the generic jump, you at least have the power to visit the one without a jump, that you want the most.

I.e. Magical Girls. We've got a good deal of the iconic shows already, but there are plenty of places that you can only go to by taking Generic Magical Girl and saying that the jump is to that setting. Same for Gundam, the only way to reach Gundam X, or Iron Blooded Orphans is via the Generic Gundam Jump.

It's not always about the powers, or solely about the powers. Sometimes its about the places you can go, things you can see, people you can screw.
>>
>>53749004
No? Generic Wuxia lets you choose from certain settings like Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It's just dependent on the jumpmaker.

>>53749001
>Why not just make jumps for the specific settings instead if he likes the genre so much?
Probably the same reason why other jumpmakers chose to do a Generic instead of drilling down into a specific?
>>
>>53749004
There is no such consensus. That might be someone's opinion, but I've been operating for years without anyone objecting to my builds, on the completely opposite premise.
>>
>>53749040
Generics besides really old ones like King Arthur and Wuxia aren't supposed to allow you to visit specific settings.
>>
>>53749001
>why would you guys want a Generic Isekai instead of a Generic Fantasy?
MAYBE BECAUSE THEY AREN'T THE SAME FUCKING THING?
You don't get to decide what is or is not a genre. You can't just say 'Isekai is just Fantasy, it's not entitled to its own generic!' because you're wrong.
>>
>>53748818
>Projection also requires conscious concentration to sustain an ongoing magical effect.
Is that actually canon? And what counts as an "ongoing effect"? Can't I simply grant my self transform/enchant myself into an immortal? That wouldn't require concentration at all after the effect is in place. I really feel like this is a kinda shaky restriction.

>if you have access to a Magic system that allows it and are in a world that permits it, and you have sufficient power, or fuel and skill to do it, Projection gives you the means to do it.
The second part is /really/ dumb. It basically means if you are in a world with a shitty magic system, Projection is also gimped to be completely useless. The other parts of that restriction I'm okay with, but I'd really feel like you should get rid of that part.

>There will always be that slight difference as in the latter case you are using two Powers at once, Projection and the emulated Power, both costing you something in power, magic, concentration, effort, capacity, etc, whereas the latter case all of that is being used for one Power alone.
And this part I feel like is completely retarded, sorry. You aren't using two powers at once, you are using Projection to create the effect of a power. It's the same as using it to conjure a table. I don't know if I misunderstood something there, but it simply feels like an arbitrary restriction.

> those responsible did not get what they wanted only the superficial appearance of it, and one was directly weakened and killed because of it.
And this part. Does this basically mean that all large-scale reality warping efforts will have some kind of glaring flaw? Because it certainly reads like it.

Could you give me an example?

>>53748818
Okay, here is what I think'll do and I'll run it by you guys first.

The Athame steals but needs to kill to do it. Making it the most inferior of all three options as you have to kill, get in close to a potentially dangerous target and have to avoid being disarmed. Also some things just don't care about getting stabbed or have defensive power that prevent it.

Power Absorption (as I was reminded by the wiki) does not in fact need to kill to steal powers, requiring only a helpless target but can absorb powers from those directly killed.

Power Mimicry mimics Powers through exposure, which is more dangerous of the three options because you can't even dodge, you have to let the Power hit you. But it also gives useful limited immunities.

So i see the Athame as okay where it is, but the two Powers are roughly equivalent but inferior to what I thought they were. So i'm thinking, 500PP each?

What do you guys think?

>>53748958
>And I just want to say that I really feel bad about all of this.
It's fine, really. i've been round long enough to know what Jumpmaker's go through, and frankly this has been really well recieved.
And the jump itself is just so much better than it was with some feedback.

>>Godly stuff can only be handled by Gods.

>>53749011
>Then define "unique ability".
I'm a little stuck between a rock and a hard place there. I want to give useful guidance, but I don't want to be unduly restrictive.
We have such a broad range of jumps, what can I say that there wont be at least one example where it doesn't make sense.
I feel like the way forward is just to communicate a princple and some examples and trust jumpers to use that and thei own common sense as to what constitutes.
Or does that seem like a cop-out?

>>53749011
>killing beings significantly stronger than you"
Yeah. I'm going to remove that.
>>
>>53749084
Wuxia and King Arthur explicitly allow it in the Jump's text. Every other Generic is just supposed to be a world with no story based around the common themes of the genre. That's explicitly why they're generic.
>>
>>53749001
Anon, I don't think you realized, but you moved your goalposts from an Isekai not being made at all because the premise is too similar to the narrative of jumpchain, to advocating it not getting made at all because you hate the genre and think it isn't legitimate compared to conventional fantasy with vague accusations of it being a power grab.

No one in their right mind would argue with you as if you weren't shitposting, because at this point, you are shitposting.
>>
>>53749001
Technically speaking, Isekai can be sci fi as well, I just haven't seen a good story about one. Also, there's a shit ton of settings in the Isekai genre, barely any of which actually make it to the point where there's enough content to make a jump, not to mention I'm one guy. >>53749210
>Accelerator's vector manipulating ability
But aren't Esper abilities not "actually" magic? It wouldn't have worked anyway, I'm pretty sure.
>>
>>53749175
This is stated nowhere. You don't HAVE to jump to a particular world with a Generic, but there is NOTHING to say that you can't choose to jump to a world that in every way resembles a canon work.

>I can't make all of them on my own

Actually, one question about Mimicry. When someone uses their power on you, do you copy the whole thing or just that application of it? Say someone wirh full pyrokinesis throws a fireball at you. Do you gain pyrokinesis or just the ability to throw a fireball? Or say someone wirh projection throws a fireball at you, then what do you get? What about if the projector instead turns you into a rabbit and then you get turned back?
>>
>>53749244

Not him, but most abilities I would consider "unique". Unless, you mean, like, metaphysically unique and connected to a setting like the Endless? That would make sense, but I dunno. I think it'd be harder for me to think of something that isn't unique.
>>
>>53749244
Esper abilities are in the source materiel, not magic, but actually kind of magic. No one considers them magic because they're incompatible with what everyone thinks magic is, but when you get to brass tax and look at what makes it all tick, it's all the same, they just do the same thing(Phase Bullshit) in fundamentally incompatible ways.
>>
>>53749287
Yes, "Powers" with a capital P are distinct and innate magical abilities. They're not just "powers". Arguably, because of the specific nature of Espers and the ToAru reality they "might" count, but usually yes.
>>
>>53749287
>As a general rule, if it is a distinct magical power or property supported by, fuelled by and enabled by magic, independent on a person’s own spellcasting or magic-using abilities, then it may be a Power, with all that that implies.

Given that some generic jumps allow for visiting specific settings, I feel that it is completely reasonable to use any generic jump that does not forbid the practice, to visit a specific setting.

I'd say that this is all stuff that should be able to be shared.
Also, in the notes you say only magical stuff counts as Powers, but then you list Stands, the Force, Vampirism as things that can't be stolen because of other things than their non-magical nature. Does that mean you CAN steal non-magical abilities?

>If no, I'd be really happy if you could include that ability for an increase in price to 1000PP.

>>
>>53749484
Well, there are a lot of cases where jumpmakers add non-canon stuff because they think it would still fit or it is interesting. In the end it's up to him, but I don't see a problem with it.
>>
>>53749420
Of course I do, and ordinarily I'd agree with "That which is not explicitly forbidden is allowed." in a normal setting, but in this context it's just really weird since I know at least some Generics are designed explicitly with being their own world in mind, like Swords & Sorcery.
>>
>>53748215
>Such as the various magical abilities of the Holy Knights from Seven Deadly Sins
Going to have to vehemently disagree. SDS powers are almost literally the exact same as Charmed ones, being something where each person with magical potential has their own power seperate from actual spellcasting. Just like in Charmed, someone can't just "learn" to shoot fire if their power is shooting lightning, though they could learn a spell that lets them shoot fire. So I have no idea why your cordoning this off.
>>
>>53746981
All the time.

>>53749459
>I'm sorry, but I feel like we are just going to have to agree to disagree there.
Sorry, but I really don't see your thought process here. Could you walk me through it? Like, I think you'd just use Projection to create the effect of Pyrokinesis by willing a fireball into existence, and wouldn't run a sort of "emulator" to create a Pyrokenesis power and then use THAT to make some fire.
>>
>>53749542
Sword & Sorcery is basically just a Conan the Barbarian Generic though.
>>
>>53749542
It's just a matter of different authors going by different interpretations. There is no general consensus because half of those jumpmakers are gone and won't make a ruling, and even a ruling can't change a person's single player game.

>>
>>53749466
I mean, if you think they're bad, you have shit taste, but that's beside the point. Esper powers are completely different from magic and only technically so because of so pretty complected reasoning that arguably still just means they're completely different.

Magic is based on a sort of oWoD style consensus of reality from humans imposed as Phases, and Esper powers are based on Personal Realities, which is you rejecting reality and substituting your own, effectively making your own Phase to influence the world.

The only reason you'd think Esper powers were magic is if you were to consider all phase bullshit magic by default.
>>
>>53749542
Whereas I don't find it weird at all, this is more than half the point of generics to me in the first place, and it's your approach to them that I find odd.

Generics that state they are designed to be their own world, I wouldn't jump to an existing world with. (Though I'm having a hard time thinking of any that forbid it) Those generics that state explicitly that they can be taken in a particular world, of course I do.

Those that make no statement either way, I see no reason why I oughtn't be free to do as best fits my chain.
>>
>>53749448
Yes.
With the next revision it is enough for Power Absorption to render them helpless and drain their Poweers through contact, but Heartless as an Evil perk *needs* to kill the target.

>>53749445
No. they are just examples of things you can't treat as Powers, those that are non-magic are doublely not able to be treated as Powers.
Sorry.

>>53749564
Powers take power to run. Or concentration or taking up part of a person's limited capacity, however you want to look at it.
Using, you follow your example, Projection to emulate Pyrokinesis means you are paying for two Powers at one time.
But if you had Pyrokinesis alone, then all of that capacity you'd otherwise have to share between two can be put towards just the one Power.
How much of a difference that makes in real terms, I leave up to the jumper to decide.

>>53749560

Anything to do with harems is shit by default, but I gave To Aru a chance because it was so popular on /a/. But I had to give up about 5 volumes in. Also, Misaka is best girl, but she becomes a fucking moron when anything involves Touma at all, which is everything because he's the MC. Bah.
>>
>>53749764
>Using, you follow your example, Projection to emulate Pyrokinesis means you are paying for two Powers at one time.
That's where our viewpoints of Projection apparently differ. I don't think you'd have to "emulate" anything at all, you'd just will a fireball into existence, or the enemy demon exploding, or anything else really. You already have the swiss army knife of powers as it was described in the jump, why would you need to emulate any lesser powers?

>Such as

He's using Holy Knight abilities as examples of Powers, which "are easily confused for specialized magical disciplines or abilities". Literally two consecutive lines.
>>
>>53749560
Okay I've looked into it, and I've concluded that it is a grey area.
The wiki both confirms that it is 'magic' but also says that it is, to quote:
>Though the catalyst to awaken one's power is unknown; power resides within the body itself. This is supported by the Holy Knight's belief that their bodies are imbued with "magic that transcends human knowledge."
http://nanatsu-no-taizai.wikia.com/wiki/Powers
So, it's magic and certainly reads like it's a Power but it also is tied to the body, which I've already ruled against.
So, here's what I am going to do. I am going to remove it from the list of examples of non-Powers and let you as a jumper choose whether or not they count as Powers or not.
>>
>>53749912
Oh, and reading through the archive on /a/, I do think esper powers are magic after all.
>Not quite. Esper powers were originally an innate kind of magic that Gemstones only had. Regular magic in Index was created to give people without innate talent to acquire supernatural power and what Crowley did was develop a way to force the awakening of people's innate magical talent (hence Espers are artificial Gemstones).
My knowledge of index is foggy but I'm 99% sure that anon is correct. Some other anons also said that AIM is basically magic, and considering that was posted in the general and nobody disputed it, I'm inclined to believe them.

My dude, but why? From the Charmed wiki:

Thanks anon for bringing this to my attention.
I suppose Charmed Power and Seven Deadly Sins Powers are close enough that the latter can be considered 'Powers' as far as the jump is concerned.

At this point, my only real hesitance towards this and things like it is InterJump Balance, and, well, that's not a good thing. I'll need to keep an eye out for that.

Little embarassed I forgot about the connection between Charmed Powers and their bodies, specifically their blood. I even included a monkey as a pet that came from a storyline around blood from the sisters being injected into monkeys and giving them clones of the sister's Powers.

I'm reading the second paragraph, and already I'm calling totalm fucking bullshit on this. AIM fields are not the means by which Espers enact change on the world, they are merely a byproduct. The term itself means 'an involuntary movement', and it's Esper's exercising their Personal Reality, the real core of their powers which this fucking retard dismisses as merely being a framework for use of AIM, unconsciously. It's all bullshit.

If you want an actual fucking understanding of the metaphysics behind this stuff, you should probably stop trying to confirm your own biases and read the fucking wiki. Espers are not magic users, they're completely different. They don't work on the same fucking systems, they're fundamentally incompatible, calling them both magic is bullshit and you know it. The only reason you're pushing this is because you want to justify it for powerwanking.

>Much of what is know of the power systems in Index is very much speculation, although backed by enough facts to make it seem reasonable.
Not really. We know pretty much exactly how the magic and Esper powers work, and they are definitively separate. Magic draws on Phases toarumajutsunoindex.wikia.com/wiki/Phase to do their thing. Esper powers don't, they are supported by Personal Reality toarumajutsunoindex.wikia.com/wiki/Personal_Reality and are very much a materialistic aspect of the universe, because robots can use them by using the human biology of corpses to emulate the functions that create Esper powers. End of story, Esper powers aren't Magic, sorry.
>>
>>53750571
Oh, Bancho. You silly goose.

>>53750670
In d&d, breath weapons can be used in anti-magic fields, and so can't be magic.
In the games terms, it is a supernatural ability rather than a spell-like ability (which would unquestionably count as a Power)
And as Powers can only be magic...
If you found another setting where dragon's breath was magic, then you could treat it as a Power, it just so happens that isn't the case in d&d. Or at least the d&d I am familiar with.
>>
>>53750871

By the way, since people up thread were talking about index, it appears that the raildex wank about coffins has been jeopardized by the fact that it's now been changed so that the corpses used were actually reanimated by magic all along. I just got through reading the LP for Blazing Sword and started on Sword of Seals to get a better grasp on Elibe. Is there anything more you can tell me about Fire Emblem's magic system in general? As far as I can tell there are casting tool requirements (staffs, tomes), and besides typical RPG damage, heal, and protection magic, there is cross-continental teleport at higher levels, and (very, very rare) resurrection. Also, there are spirits involved, at least as far as enchanted weapons go.
Am I missing anything?
>>
>>53751787
Hmm.
The canon possessor of the power first copied three powers (maybe more) but then lost them and was sealed away. Then he was freed and copied the sister's powers and was then sealed away.
Whether the initial sealing 'reset' Power Mimicry's 'memory' or actually removed copied Powers, who knows?
Go with whatever interpretation you like best.

Dude the Railgun wank is ... Gaunlet I think? He uses Exterior (Giant Brain in a Jar Tech) + Brainwave Network (Linking Minds together to use all ESPer Powers at once) + Chemicaloid (Artificial ESPer Creation) + Ability Body Crystal (ESPer enhancement drugs/crystal) to basically have hundreds of Exteriors held elsewhere allowing him to use huge processing power. Technically if you have the right samples of various peoples brains, which he would have from his time as a Raildex spy, you could emulate any shown ESPer power in the anime/novels via making Exteriors with copied brain wave patters using the Chemicaloid tech. He doesn't bust it out often though, or he forgot about the combo.

There are several versions of Raildex wank. The original idea was to do a multi skill network of level 5 robots, which is still technically possible, just less necessarily supported now because Coffins aren't actually machines using dead Espers as components to use their personal reality, but instead reanimated corpses with artificial souls piloting mecha.

Coffins are still proof of concept that Esper powers are entirely biological in their manifestation, since even after reanimation their powers are the same and altering their biology changes their power level, and even supports the idea that a human biology isn't necessary as long as you can support a Personal Reality, but now it's unclear if you need a soul or not to make it work.

There are other proofs(Chemicaloid, Rensa, Exterior, Radio Noise) that you can make Espers wholesale, that they're primarily based on in genetics, that even full cyborgs with only a persons hypothalamus can use Esper powers, and that all you really need to produce Esper powers is a brain analogue to facilitate a Personal Reality and information processing abilities, they don't even have to be of a human biochemistry.

It's just dubious if you can make a machine that matches those criterion, which was specifically what I was addressing.

Fire Emblem's magic system is...weird. There doesn't seem to be a set system of rules or if it does it's not entirely elaborated upon.

My personal headcanon is that you bind spells and stuff to tomes for quick casting because if you cast stuff in the battle that just leaves enemies to try to run up and hit you.
>>
>>53752128
>waifu them
They're attractive enough, but I don't actually like any of them.
>>
>>53751012
See, the problem with trying to judge the power is that the universe doesn't operate on normal physics. One brush magic spell just lets you instantly cut into people, one summons bombs. Another lets you summon the sun or moon, changing time completely, and even just raw brush manipulation can let you change the constellations in the sky.
>>
>>53752128
Is it possible to "redeem" or convert a Warlock back into a Witch, or does it only go one way?
>>
>>53752343
Or could it just be perspective magic? They "look smaller" so they're easier to manipulate?

Jump # 145 G Gundam
Nation: Neo Germany
Identity: Gundam Fighter
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Perks
*It’s all in the mind (400)
*Hand Calm, Mind Serene (300, Discount)
*Countries Finest (0)
Companions
*The Help (Doom-chan)(0)
Gundam
*Import – Big O (0)
*Emotion Energy System (400)
*Martial Upgrade X (350) (Xianxia Martial Arts, School of the undefeated of the east, Sidereal Martial Arts, Overlord Martial Arts)
Drawback:
*Old Master (+200)
*Devil Core (+300)

So I have played a lot of roles in my time as jumper and in this world I played one of my least favorite… I was to be the backup fighter for my native Neo Germany. This however was not what I came here for. So I had to spit in the face of my countrymen, family and friends quitting my position and taking up with Neo England. At first they were reluctant to Move away from their previous champion Gentle Chapman. However I challenged Chapman to a battle to prove my abilities. Though he was a fierce competitor and the fog of the field made it hard to fight him. I managed to defeat him. Unfortunately he died do to overdosing on stimulants after our battle.

I felt bad about it. Worse the stigma never went away, even those of Neo England didn’t really like or trust me. At that point I wasn’t to sure my plan had been worth it but I had come to far to turn back.

I battled my way through the tournament. I fought Domon Kasshu in Neo England… at first he was a disrespectful asshole to me, then he found out I had trained under Master Asia and I was his Kohei. We fought to a draw as I was only using the style of the undefeated of the east (which he was better at) but my mech was pretty much damn near invincible).

(to be continued)
>>
>>53752374
It's 'This is a story based on Japanese mythology' magic, I'd just give up on trying to reconcile the celestial manipulation with the ability to create massive amounts of matter from nothing with the simple combat magic. It works because it works.
>>
>>53752384
During our match he asked me why I had betrayed everyone. I explained I hadn’t come here to play backup for anyone. I came to be a part of the tournament. It didn’t matter which bureaucrats ran things they would all be equally terrible. I also said I heard of some super weapon that I wanted to make sure didn’t fall in to any of their hands… Domon at least respected that even if he questioned how I knew about the Dark Gundam.

I also encountered the rest of the new Shuffle alliance… Some weren’t so forgiving. George De Sand in particular seemed to feel it was his duty to put me out of the tournament. He was tough but I beat him leaving him his head because I didn’t want to take him out of the tournament.
I was called by Master Asia to Shinjuku and fought alongside Domon and Master Asia against the death army only to have it revealed Master Asia was behind it… for some reason I had forgotten that so that was a huge shock to me. I may have said some things and he threw that I wasn’t even loyal to my own country back in my face… I will admit it stung coming from him.

Strangely Swarz Bruder was one of the few fighters who didn’t treat me like crap. I think he either felt bad for me or thought I might be useful against the Dark Gundam. He Even helped me train suggesting I should head to the Guyana Highlands to train.

There I trained with Domon and eventually ran in to the Shuffle Alliance. I eventually settled matters with George. I defeated him then went on a rant about all the shit I had been through because I just wanted to be a gundam fighter and not a seat warmer

I made it to the finals and then began shenanigans… almost immediately I had kidnapping attempts, traps for my companions and or myself. It turns out Wong Yunfat and Major Ulube thought I would just be the best core for the Devil Gundam ever.

I learned that you can use healing magic to remove DG Cell infection…

(to be continued)
>>
>>53752406
I fought my way through up to Domon… We through everything we had at each other and I had him on the ropes a few times but he just wouldn’t lose, eventually he God fingered the shoulder joint of Big O and heated it so much that the part underneath the Adamantium broke and I lost the match… I was impressed.

I was put in some tag battles with Domon but Wong tried to sabotage Big O by sneaking a version of the Berserker system in to it… That did not end well for the saboteur. He was guilty… and I had to clean my cockpit.

I got to witness Domon and Master Asia’s battle… and Master Asia’s death after it. It hit me hard but as he was dying he told me he was proud of me and what I had become…. I cried a lot over that.

Apparently giving up on me Wong Chose to make Rain the core of the Devil Gundam. I wound up helping the Shuffle Alliance bring down Grand Master Gundam as he saved Rain and took down the dark Gundam.

I like to think that FE magic is the mathematical equation for the spell written into the tome which you then channel magic through. Durability is each 'page' burning up after use because ink and paper is not meant to hold large amounts of power.

Forging is paying someone to fine tune the equation for more damage, or ease of control. Armsthrift is you getting better at casting the spell on your own, and not burning the book up.

Weirder spells are the equivalent of quantum physics, and make peoples head hurt to look at, which is why you don't have fifty copies of Valflame or Forseti wandering around. Some of them even have a sort of ID check built into it, which is why only certain people can use them.

That's what I like to think, at least.
>>
>>53746796
Well, most of the time, there's this huge ritual which requires at least eight people, summoning octograms, multiple offerings, thuribles, and similar things, that can only be performed on the night of the new moon. That takes some dedication, but usually succeeds, unless it's just an ambush.

(In a pinch, a sufficient dark room with only a couple of people with three small sticks and 4 cc of mouse blood or even with a fresh egg and two small sticks, will also suffice.)

For more unreliable methods, simply praying to me or calling out my name sometimes gets an answer, if it pushes past the usually murmur of prayer I hear and the situation warrants me showing up.

However, my closest allies and important agents gain another arcane method of summoning my, using numerical formulae and electrically charged ritual devices to send a signal for me to arrive, through a obscure process called a "phonecall".

Ah, I uh... did indeed forget. Also I had a plan at one point to get Accelerators powers but back then I didn't understand the pseudo-science of Railgun enough to make a viable way to do it, so I was stuck with just Teleport and Electromaster at Level 5 and upping my skill with Exterior is great but without committing to Level 6 Shift (Fuck that) I'm stuck on things I can do. The Multi-Skill Brainwave Network is still the best thing I've personally got going from just Railgun tech.

>>53752343
Yeah Okami is odd in the way it works. Brush Magic seems to work on some kind of principle that since Ammy/the Gods are what they are they see the world as a painting and their power to change it is determined by their Brush Techniques. The Techniques themselves /do/ run the guantlet of everything from Celestial Slash (Merely hurts foes, cuts slam through a car sized boulder and several trees?) to Time Manipulation and just outright restoring anything to a previous state. There is a gauge for 'power' (Ink Pots) but we have no idea the hows or whys.

Of most relavanec is this;

>Knowing her potential researchers have speculated that if she becomes the 8th-ranked Level 5, her AIM dispersion field would be able to use as an intermediary to freely control other espers' Personal Realities, beyond Shizuri's speculation. As Personal Realities were the source from which espers powers and phenomenon were brought into the real world, controlling it would not only mean increasing or decreasing an esper's level, it would also mean she could give different kinds of powers to anyone, switch powers between espers, or remove esper powers all together. For example: Hamazura Shiage would be given the Meltdowner while Mugino Shizuri would be brought down to being a Level 0. Moreover, Dual Skill a previously impossible phenomena would become reality. Furthermore, she can do it freely at any place she wanted to.

You'd still have some ability to manipulate Data (Material Reality) enough to create a Human Interface, if not one with the enhanced physic of the purchased version. Trained By Yet to Come works by being trained by yourself from the future. It only works on training stuff, which is the reason it's only the 400.

Stand Name: Tribute
Appearance: Heavily bandaged humanoid. Eyes are violet and it wears vagabond clothes, wool cap and a canvas trench-coat notable, over the bandages, which show through holes and such.
Power - C
Speed - A
Range - E
Durability - A
Precision - A
Potential - A
Ability: At it's core Tribute works on the principles of Causality Reversal but is limited in scope.

This isn't the Greatest Song in the World...: By using the ability to create a paradox Tribute can spoil forms of future sight/Precognition/Etc. from effecting the Stand and Gaunlet as they don't follow the timeline to fulfillment. This can exhaust Gaunlet as if he were putting in six times as much effort into every motion. ()

(Awakening) Down a Long and Lonesome Road: Using it's power to cause more than physical interference by enforcing effects that extend to rewriting or damaging natural laws, Tribute, and Tribute alone, is able to interfere with supernatural phenomenon, blocking magical lightning as if it were a physical blow, dodging time stops, striking the magical energy within a barrier are all examples.

(Requiem) ...it's just a Tribute: Cause and effect are reversed for the duration of a single action allowing Gaunlet to survive once but this seals Tribute away for a year and a day. Sadly this one won't work out as I'd have to die, and it doesn't count as one of my 1-Ups.

Ever since I found out about Acts recently I've been trying to create Acts for it.

Brendan Rowe, right. He wasn't turning into a witch, that wasn't even what he was trying to do. He was turning his back on magic altogether, joining the clergy and supposedly becoming a normal human.
Whether he did or just repressed his true nature really hard...

There is an episode of, where through a Dark Binding wedding ritual with a captured Prue, a pair of warlocks remotely convert Piper and Pheobe into Warlocks. Once the binding is dealt with they return to normal.
It's the best example we have in canon, and in my opinion it means that, in theory at least, warlocks can become witches.

Adjusting mentions it talks bout developing resistance to "specific powers" (lower case p), retains resistance to Powers "and similar", and then isn't mentioned in the notes about when it's important to know what a Power is (/ doesn't link to the notes in it's own text). Am I reading to much into this, or this this a more general magic resistance perk, or an even broader supernatural abilities perk (with stuff like psychic powers, as opposed to a resistance against Powers as defined by the jump?

Is their any functional difference between killing someone with an Athame versus killing them any other way with Power Absorption? (beyond that the Athame can only maybe transfer so much power per kill)?

Obviously this is an incredibly impressive jump, btw. I can't imagine how much work has gone into this.

Sounds better to me, at least. You've put a lot of thought into it. I think that anyone can indeed use magic tomes, it just won't be very strong if someone with a lack of talent uses it.

Although Valflame and Forseti derive their power from the dragonstones in the book which are crystallized shards of the dragon's power, and they only allow those descended from a pact with the dragon for that reason.

That's a bit of lore I had to dig for and learned after I made the Geneology jump.

Oh, thank you. I hope you enjoy it as much I enjoyed making it, anon.
Forgive me if this is a little curt. I really need to be getting to bed.
Adjusting can help you with more than just Powers, but as a variant sort of Magic Resistence, it only helps with Magic.
I'll add a line or two to the text and make that clear.

The differences between using the Athame and Power Absorption:
1. Power Absorption doesn't need you to kill, the Athame does.
2. You can be disarmed of the Athame, and you need to get close.
3. The Athame, being a knife and being what you need to use on the killing blow may not be effective on certin type of opponents. Those with thick skin, or scales or defensive powers aganst stabbing and so on. Power Absorption doesn't have any issue like that.

I think I'll just remove the theoretical limit for the Athame of Power transfer. It seems a bit pointless now.

Sorry, but I'm going to bed now. Hope to see you all tomorrow. Take care guys.

If you have any more questions, queries or idea, feel free to post them and I'll respond to them tomorrow as soon as I have time. Bye.

Well, that's more of a cross between them not knowing what they're doing and just having a low magic stat. Like, the equations are simple, but you can still blow yourself up if you put the magic in the wrong end or something.

>Lore
That makes a lot of sense. You can make a copy of the books, but without a crystal piece, it's just a book. Actually, that might explain why the crusader weapons in Genealogy are so OP, while in awakening, most of them can be used by anyone, but are much weaker.

Factions could cover Outer Haven, UNR, with the Mail Service, Crusaders, and Safety net being possible additions to be a part of or included in. Others like abyss or something might function as backgrounds, or even OC backgrounds such as mechanic.

or everyone is drop in.
