Wew missed this hard, couldn't list the exact models atm but a mech (as in vehicles) Tau army that needs a lot of love. Got a load from another player awhile back and never got around to painting or doing anything with the force, I bought a Riptide and a new Crisis commander solely because I liked the model. Other than that though there are no suits

Would take money but wouldn't feel right considering the condition of some of these models, would rather get some Orks

Chaos has always been able to sink their hooks in Tau when they wanted to. It was just that Tau are like breadcrums, and why waste effort on those when there are more tasty morsels around.

But now that daemons can basically step out of a warp storm straight onto Tau worlds they might as well.

>Wait, fifth? What happened to number four?
>Yeah, about that. So, the dynamic and ever optimistic T’au might have been a little over-eager to embark on a new expansion.
>The Fourth Sphere Expansion fleet set off almost immediately once the fires in the Gulf had subsided, but with the Great Rift still raging through that region of space, all contact with them was soon lost. Were they all killed by some unknown attacker(s)? Did they just lose contact due to interference? Perhaps they entered the Warp – intentionally or not – becoming lost (or worse) in the violent empyrean tides? Maybe they will yet be found, or emerge somewhere unexpected in the galaxy, a lost portion of this optimistic new empire ever intent on conquest…

Mostly a relic from Rogue Trader lore, when Leman Russ was just a regular human commander, and the tank named after him as an honour.
>>
>>53437045
I guess that makes sense, but their profit margin per shop must be incredibly small.
>>

>>
>>53437123
If you only want to play casually you can probably get by with the free core rules and online datasheets. Of course that has limitations like only one scenario, and not being about to play for points. So generally you'll want the rulebook and the index book which covers your army. If you know someone else who will be getting the rulebook you could probably get by with just the index, which is only like $25.

Anyone planning to buy the starter box and keep both sides? I know a lot of people are going halves with friends, or swapping for extra models, but I really like both sides. I was only recently thinking about Death Guard, and I've never had a loyalist army before.
>>
>>53437235
Nurgle cares about his followers, GW sees them as chattel.
>>
>>53437202
I recommend using this method for drop pods with an atmosphereic entry scorched appearance. Super easy and looks great.

>>
>>53437074
Chadmarines are inescapable since they're in the starter and will be 85% of new releases for the next decade.
>>
>>53437106
The only things to meet at GW stores are desperate, pushy salesmen and children.
>>
>>53437236
Are there even going to be online datasheets? I don't think I've seen GW mention them once.
>>
>>53437248
I've considered getting one. Army of nothing but Punishers Vultures and Taurox Primes.
>>
>>53437235

>>
>>53437317
Unfortunately you'd need like 8 rounds of shooting vultures to kill something like a knight. It would be hilarious though.
>>
>>53437248
>>53437317
I'd wait until the actual rules for 8th Ed are published for it. Somebody might decide rolling 40 fucking dice every time it shoots is just a tad fucking ridiculous, and adjust the amount of shots downward in return for maybe boosting the strength and armor piercing a bit. Or something like that.

So if all you wanted to do was pitch two handfuls of dice across the table, I'd wait on running out and buying the model for that right now.
>>
>>53437270
>Playing as space marines

Seriously?
>>
>>53437249
Nah, sell marine side to get the full multi part kit later. Nurgle marine even with full kit release would still be different from those in starter box (due to mutation and stuff).
>>
>>53437348
Considering FRF,SRF makes guardsmen fire 4 shots at short range now they can't be that worried about making you roll a shitload of dice.
>>
>>53437285
Depends on location.
I remember a Geedubs in a mall, it sucked, full of children and bothersome salesmen.

But another one, not in a mall or around an area with many kids, is quite pleasant. And the salespeople do no more than "need any paint or glue for that?".

Real talk: I'm sure the novelty of rolling two literal handfulls of dice every time you shoot would quickly lose its appeal for both you and the other guy when each rain of dice hits the table and knocks every fucking thing over. Or you could just roll them elsewhere off the board, I know, but I doubt you and/or your opponent wants to constantly step to the side of an 8 foot board to see the results.

TL;DR consider the actual logistics of so many dice
>>
>>53437361
You might be right. Or they might limit how many times you can use that order per game somehow. Like make it cost a command point or something.
>>
>>53436883
I really doubt these guys are going to be chaos tau. I think its just an excuse to move tau out of tiny area in an eastern backwater of imperial space.

>>
>>53437385
It will get old for my opponent but not for me. I've been First Rank Fire Second Rank Fire blobs since 5th and using Punishers every game.
>>
>>53437385
There are various dice rolling apps. They can be rather convenient well rolling large amounts of dice.

>>53437398
I wouldn't be surprised if orders are special guard stratagem-like things now considering they auto-succeed now but I know several people that don't think this is the case so who knows.

Why do you think the starter box will be monopose? Prospero, Calth, and the Talons boxes have all been multipart, as well as the various other boxed games. The last monopose box I can remember was Dark Vengeance, which is what, five years old?
>>
>>53437296
No confirmation yet. But I expect them.
>>
>>53437382
If you aren't playing *as* marines you can call the chads what they are: "slightly larger marines". Let the asshole across the table deal with having shitty fluff and a meme army, it's not your problem.
>>
>>53437440
He has two of them.
>>
>>53437437
At a regular power setting they are about the same as a modern day assault rifle.
>>
>>53437437
Enough to stop a baneblade apparently
>>
>>53437475
But modern day assault rifles don't have a standard stopping power. 5.56 isn't as strong as 7.62 for example.
>>
What chapter should I paint my Primaris Marines as?
>>
>>53437507

Rainbow Warriors.
>>

I could even like the Chads if they were Ultramarines-only and were an explicit attempt by Rowboat to do a "Velvet glove/iron fist" coup with his newly legion-strength Chapter (made more ironic since he was the one who chaptered the legions up in the first place). I'm talking about a single shot, btw. The cultist and his buddies, who all wore looted flak armor, were pinned down inside a building by an autocannon chimera and the guardsmen it carried, so he decided to jump down one of the side windows and flank the guardsmen who were using the vehicle as cover.

So he went at them screaming obscenities while hip-firing his lasgun and hastily walking towards them. Three of the loyalists noticed him and started shooting immediately, most of the shots were aimed at the chest and being stopped by his flak armor. One of them hit the lasgun and it exploded, but the guy was berserk and just pulled out his knife and ran straight at them.

The idea is that the guy takes a shot in the gut while running, staggers, quickly gets up and lunges at the nearest guardsman, who dodges. The cultist attacks again, coming straight at him and gets stabbed in the chest by the guardsman who extended his bayonet while trying to back up, but still manages to stab the guy in the right arm, which makes him drop the lasgun. He then activates a frag grenade which makes guardsmen squad scatter away from the chimera, blowing himself up and inspiring his buddies into a berserk frenzy that makes them charge into the rest of the guardsmen. The chimera crew is eventually forced to shoot everyone to pieces.

But if that gut-shot was enough to drop the berserkering cultist, then I might have to re-write the whole scene.

Well normal people can already do that kind of thing when in high-adrenaline. I once read about a man who was attacked by a grizzly bear going berserk and killing the bear with his bare hands before dying from his wounds.

The thing is that if the round/laser is strong enough he could be blasted from his feet, giving the guardsmen enough time to finish him off.
>>

I think in later lore, when the Primarchs were nonspecifically awesome, they mentioned him getting along well with the Guard, and actually designing the tank.
Then there were more retcons, and Russ's ability to communicate was limited to scratches clawed into bits of bark, so he discovered the STC or something like that.

I thought they already showed this to be true with the detachment thing. Smaller detachment means more command points, but fewer possible units on the table.

Yes, he tried to corrupt an Ethereal, the super strong-willed supermonks of the Tau Empire and likely the least corruptible of both Caste-type and training, and then lamented on how it was not impossible, but would take a long while to do it, and this was without pulling off some of the more serious ways Chaos corrupts people, instead just throwing a little Warp-energy at it and waiting for it to fall.

So, if anything, the novel proved that Tau are corruptible without question, they just take a little more effort than Humans due to their small souls and near Tempestus-tier mental conditioning, effort that Daemons might as well not bother putting in.

In real life, a laser optimised for wounding would burst the flesh open in an explosive fashion by flashing the water into steam rther than burning and most severe burns make you lose a lot of fluid (effectively dropping blood pressure and causing hypovolemic shock) anyway.

In the 40k fiction however, laser wounds do indeed tend not to bleed, because it's a 'cinematic' setting and by cinematic rules, anything hot cauterises wounds (in reality cauterisation is a delicate procedure which must be done precisely if you want to stop blood loss; just jamming hot metal or a burning stick in a wound does more harm than good).

How I do stuff like that is a blue metallic and a black/brown wash.

Base black. Make sure you have complete black coverage. Mix some dull grey metallic (say, leadbelcher or runefang steel) with some deep blue transparent ink (drakenhof nightshade) and a tiny amount of water. Load a soft brush with it and wipe almost all of it off, then drybrush gently over the surface several times. Then wash with a dark brown (mix of earthshade and nuln oil should work well).

Also helps if nearby areas are relatively light, at least in terms of shadows. Our perception of colour and tone is very context dependent, so you can make something look more black by having nearby things brighter.
>>
>>53439401
because balance fixes can involve changing core rules as well.

also can you imagine the outrage at people having to buy a book of just points costs. So they've rolled the rules into the same book.
>>
>>53439447

>>
>>53439465
Changing the core rules is the very worst method of fixing balance. It also means that all the feedback about points values becomes less relevant, because that feedback will be based on last year's core rules.

Plus they will now feel obliged to change the core rules every year, so that they aren't just changing a few pages of points values.

Personally, I'd rather have separate books for each element of the game; background, modelling, core rules, army rules, points values. Then I could get each part updated when it needs to be.

I'm also baffled by putting 'power' on the datasheets rather than in the same place as the points values or the narrative missions. Now you can only update one of your points systems when you release your rebalanced book.
>>
>>53439522
Because power is a fixed value not subject to change.

It's economy of action.

Like how storerooms will have the highest moving inventory at the front because it'll see the most mobility.

>>
>>53440137
That thing is tiny compared to Ang'rath, just buy him you poorfag.

What do you think?
>>
I wonder if my Tech Priest Dominus will continue to be much more of a tank than I ever expected.
>>
>>53438681

You can't fool me, that model on the right is clearly a conversion kitbash.
>>
>>53440180
Unfortunately we appear to be on the ass end of getting a faction focus. Hopefully next week.
>>
>>53440189
So it seems.

Do you think we'll be getting any new units this year? Our selection isn't that broad.

here is a painted and unpainted model using their robed body and leg bits. The legs are superb, better than the plastic dark angel robes from GW in my opinion, however one thing to note is that the gorget is a difficult fit for power armored heads. Also, the rear backpack mounts are a single rectangular point with a hemisphere, without the supporting structure that extends above it, so any backpacks will have a bit of a gap above where they connect to the body.
The techmarine also has a spellcrow combi-melta, which I received a sprue of 4 of as freebies. The weapons I cant quite approve of as much. They're a little bit lower in quality of design. But the armor, helmets, and bodies are quite good.

>>
>>53440201
Not him, but I really hope so. Something that isn't dumb electro clowns or walking coke cola dispensers would be nice.
>>
>>53440171

That seems a pretty stupid argument, the hierophant Titan has a massively larger footprint than a hive tyrant and looks nothing like it.
>>
>>53440224
Exactly.
>>
>>53440220
At the very least we have Fires of Cyraxus to look forward to... eventually
>>
>>53440133
It would give Kastelans a job again and make Phosphor Serpentas/Blast Pistols worth a damn since you can chain them like splitfire Markerlights now. Blast one unit with Kastys/Phosphonager, shoot one Skit squad at it and fire the sarge off at the next enemy, so you have a chance for lighting up most of the enemy line.

>>53440180
He is a complete beast at the moment. 120-ish points for a FnP Termie Captain with Power Axe, FnP, IWND 2+, Haywire melee, S6 AP3 Blast and Pistol 5 boltgun. Fucking amazing.

>>53440201
Hoping so. We'll probably pick up IA14, but I would kill for a light transport or a Flyer. Triaros and Macrocarid don't really suit anything we have aside from 20-Peltast blobs or linebreaking with Hoplite saboteurs.
>>
>>53440224
Thats the point
>>
>>53440209
You really SHOULD thin your paint T B H F A M
>>
>>53440253
Yeah, he's a fucking amazing HQ.
It is disgustingly hilarious watching him just walk into my friend's army of Marines and just start swinging, cutting them down and shrugging off everything they throw at him.
>>
>>53440236
>>53440257

Which would suggest you either haven't compared the two models, or you're exaggerating to make a point but taking the exaggeration so far it just makes you sound like an idiot instead of actually making your point.
>>
>>53440265
Yeah I know. I have bad luck with my paints though. Either they're too thin to stick to the surface, or they're thick with grit and gristle from whatever I'm using as a palette. Part of it stems from my brushes as well. I just cant seem to get my brushes to stay healthy.
>>

>>
>>53440294
I think of all the options available to dark angels players, or those seeking robes of any kind, spellcrow is the best. DO NOT order robes from Anvil Industries. Plenty of their products are good, but their robes are fucked.
I also got some jump packs as freebies, the single-thruster ones. They're pretty good quality as well. They're a little small, not the same size as a sanguinary guard pack, but more the size of a single thruster from a normal space marine jump pack.
>>
>>53440267
I never really get the chance to punch with him, he always gets shot by a multimelta and fails LoS and invuln. It's happened seven times now.
He does an amazing job tanking for skittles, though. Fuck you, gravbike squads.

They're an allright all-purpose weapon.
I usually have a single squad with them.

Do keep in mind that they're alittle contradictory to Rangers role of sitting back at 30'' being pseudo snipers.

Synapse makes them immune me to battleshock, though

Interesting, I ordered the single thruster packs along with some underslung lascannons from forgeworld to make some of my BoP marines into assault and devastator squads. MkIIIs were too heavy for prolonged jump pack use so I was going to fluff them as disposable but having them be a little smaller works pretty good

the whole process can be really long. If you don't have any confirmation within a week, check if the address changed (it happens on a regular basis - mostly because some people post their mail address on forums and shit). If you're sure it's the right address, re-try. Stay polite, and use simple english (otherwise they may not understand you and/or decide you're a prick and don't deserve to be their customer)

Even if you don't want to do something illegal intentionally you might do something illegal regardless. Like parking in a "no parking zone" just because you didn't saw the sign.

I like the old fluff for that reason. Left room for you imagination to fill the gaps. Nothing can beat that, you'll always love/fear whatever headcannon you come up with, even if it's total biased fanboi shit. It's lovecraft level easy-writing, but when done right, boy does it work. Now we have every pharoes personal journal as well as their psychiatrists' diagnosis. Pretty immersion breaking.

> but you realy need something else to sustain intrest
What the C'Tan were for. That and "unidentified objects in space of possibly necron origin dating back to the war in heaven". They could have released new models just as easily with the old fluff and kept developing interactions with/between the C'Tan.
