Sentinels are well....they aren't exactly the best tbqh. I mean if you like them then go for it, they'll probably get better in 8th since vehicle in general are getting better, but sentinels would not be my first recommendation I must admit.

Mostly. I think trimming some of the bloat was a good thing, and after playing a rather annoying game with vehicles the other day which frustrated my partner, I appreciate the changes there, too.
Not sure how I feel about the formations/strategem stuff, though. That, and as an Ork player, I'd like to see the unit profiles of Boyz and stuff before I make up my mind about the changes with Assault.

Bigmarines are utterly retarded and the new models look like shit. 8th edition rules seem like a sidestep at best with some decent changes, some stupid changes and a whole lot of shit that should have changed but hasn't. The faction imbalance and power creep problems are also still clearly going to be a huge problem. I'm willing to wait to see the full picture before writing it off, but I'm not optimistic based on what we've seen.

I have serious doubts whether they can actaully get the fun back into the system. The changes are definitely good I just don't think they'll be enough. If you're set on combining the two then yeah, use the Custodes as your supporting force. The Captain can probably take a bit more of a beating than the DW dude, but their Warlord traits are pretty bad and it's really unflexible, since you could just as well stick that DW guy into a Custodes unit to protect him.

Many people use the new Celestine as their HQ choice for pure Custodes armies. Might want to check her out if you want to play them separately, since she's probably too expensive to just toss in for good measure.

I can't help but feel the Tau's battlesuit ability to ignore the "can't shoot after retreating" ability and the ability to deflect close combat wounds into entirely separate units of drones could lead to the guys who are worst at close combat basically becoming the best at close combat. I did the math and if you were to take a crises suit team of 3 with all Flamers backed up by a separate unit of 9 drones (of any type, but sniper would likely be best since they could target enemy characters) you could conceivably take a turn one charge of genestealers right into the crises suits without losing a single one of them. All 80 attacks negated or thrown on the drones, and the first overwatch alone taking down 10 of the genestealers in the process

Rolling "hit, wound, save" generally takes very little time since you're rerolling subsets of the same pool of dice. People get pretty fast with it and literally nobody was complaining about that. Plus they actually have streamlined converting stats to die roll targets.

As for re-rolls, you only get one re-roll a turn. So that's not really even a factor.
