With the new rules I'd expect most MC to get a toughness boost, to bring them on the level of the Orkanaut
After all, for strict game rules and effects, knights and such are now the MC for armies that can't have them

One of the funniest examples I've seen of someone complaining about 8th was them giving the example of guardsmen killing a bloodthirster. If only they knew the pain.

Bloodthirsters and Daemons Princes should never have been T6/5 and W5/4 in the first place. Especially with only a 3+ armour (that you need to pay for on the DP).

Seems like eldar is getting massive buffs again. No, its not due to the new system, as they released deathguard stats, and they were neither better nor worse, just different.

Striking scorpion mandibles now deal 8th ed's "D" damage - mortal wounds.

Seems like they want everyone to just play eldar and nothing else.

In b4 cruddace nerfs nids again.

Daily reminder that 8th is false hope, the system will be even more broken than before as writers buff their favourite armies and nerf those they dislike.

Force weapons now do D3 damage so it goes without saying.

Magos wakes up Overlord (who is, luckily, pretty sane and rational compared to some other Necrons), Overlord and him have a little chat, Overlord tells him all about the great Void Dragon who sleeps under Mars, Magos' entire reality is shattered, Magos pledges himself and his men to the true Omnissiah, as well as the Omnissiah's chosen robot zombie children.

Thinking of making a Necron/Admech force with the latter converted to be more Necron-y (basically Necron tech cultists). What do you think?

We just know they can do mortal wounds, but we don't know how
Maybe they will deal d6 mortal wounds each on the charge, or they will only be able to do that on a 6 on a full moon night while fighting a Dark Eldar army composed only of vehicles

We'll have to wait and see, without considering it the Armageddon or a barely notable breeze

>Overlord decides that he likes this kid
>this kid sees it how it is
>maybe I'll talk to him a little longer

>they start talking about the journal, Magos mentions the unanswered questions about the slumbering dragon
>Overlord tells him about the Ctan, talks them up to be divine beings, leaves out the part about how they're now star-eating pokemon

>FRFSRF now spits out 4 shots each @ 12"
Good luck putting your 50 conscript blob at 12" of a titan unharmed

Don't get me wrong, lasgun is better than before. But it is still an anti-(light-)infantry weapon (and even then, only good when massed), and people trying to spam lasguns because "they can now wound Titans" will be massacred by d6 auto-wound flamers and other big guns before they can deal 2 wounds to the big guys

Looks like it's changing to me.
>>
>>53197345
For gameplay reasons, I don't think it's good design to have significant bonuses against units which only appear in some forces or make some armies capable of defeating others easily.

I'm hoping that things like preferred enemy, hatred, haywire and poison will be significantly changed in the new edition and things like penalties to hit are either something everyone can do, no-one can or at least are able to be countered by armies which would be hit hardest.
>>
>>53197428

>Why would you fire lasuns at something that isn't economic for it's worth?

Because you always quickly run out of targets it's efficient to fire lasguns at and have to start using them to do chip damage to finish things off.

Heck, they're better for that now. In this edition if an imperial-knight killing set of attacks rolls a little low and leaves it with one or two wounds left, you can try to s3 spam it to death.

I'm a beginner 40K Tau player and pic related is my list so far (it's actually 1k points, I forgot to add the support turret). My friend gave me some of his unpainted Eldar. He gave me a Farseer, a Spiritseer, 5 Wraithguard, 5 Rangers, 10 Guardians, a Wave Serpent and 5 Dire Avengers. I want to add them onto my list but I'm not sure what I should take. I really like Wraithguard models and they kind of seem like a no brainer since they are really tough and cover the Tau's squishyness. Should I use guns or Axes+Shield? I also really like the Ranger models, would they complement the army well or do my Fire Warriors already fit that role?

I've been thinking about getting into 40k when 8th edition drops (my bank account is crying at the thought).

What is /tg/'s opinion on how to get into it? So far the Tyranids look the coolest to me, though I understand that they aren't all that competitive in 7th edition. Do most people play competitively or are there a fair number of people who just like to have fun playing with their minis?
>>
>>53197632
Most people play non competitive.
>>
>>53197629
But I love the models, Eldar were actually my runner up choice of army. I'm not actually a tier whore but I actually enjoy winning after spending all this money and time painting. I'm not planning on adding jetbikes btw, I don't like bike units.
>>
As an ork player, I want go back to 6th edition when getting 29 boyz and a nob into a mob and rushin' them at them other gitz was a top notch idea. Orks are made to do those kind of things.

I think 8th edition should (maybe will) implement a system that actively rewards big mobz of boys - something like the mob rules in 6th, but beefed up.

e.g.
20+ fearless
12+ mob rules (7e version)

Or something along those lines. I paid good money for hordes and boys, and I want them to crash them onto enemy lines.
Also make deff dreads actually good, they're such a hall mark unit for the orks and I don't remember a time when they were a 'good' good unit.
>>
>>53197632
8th edition is changing everything so I wouldn't worry about how competitive any army is right now. Just get what looks cool.
>>
>>53197592
Rangers probably get sniper rules, which means they will fuck up enemy characters.

No way to be sure which wraithblade build will be best at this point, so probably best to hold off building them for now, but if you really, really have to, I'd go with swords because they already get plenty of strength and the invulnerable from the shield might well get nerfed.

This is true. The "wall of light" is a myth. When I came to grips with this, I just accepted that my IG lists would be vehicle-heavy now and forever. Guardsman squads would be few, cheap, and only for scoring points or to delay an opponent.
>>
>>53197603
Except that chaos has now spread throughout the galaxy and most of their anti-warp obelisks/pylons have been destryoed. The southern temporary corridor is under constant attack from demons and they are trying to protect the single pylon generating it.

Having troops to specifically combat the warp would make even more sense now.
>>
>>53197632
It depends on your meta
Sometime you could be surrounded by WAACfag while other times the most tryhard player you see is the one that was thinking of taking a Riptide if the game was 3000+ points

The best course of action is
>when 8th edition drop wait a couple of days for the rules to be pirated and read them here
>find the army you think you may like the most
>buy a start collecting box if the army you chose has one, otherwise pick a troop choice and one HQ
>buy glue, paints and all you need to start your army

If you're used to go to a GW store or a LGS you may try to go there and see if they have more precise suggestions about the army you want

Exactly my point. They mentioned units eldar barely bother with in the buffs, they aren't going to mention nerfs in their faction advertisement. If someone is going to go full panic without even thinking of the situation, or acting like they know it's going to be worse than they have any way of knowing, they're a loser who wants to feel like shit. This is coming from a marine player who's happy formations are gone.

>>53197594

>>
>>53197966
People invest so much time and money into their army that they're always bitter when they lose. People who claim otherwise are hypocrites. Look at how they hide their orks and nids because they're so afraid of losing. If you play for fun, what are you so afraid of?

The issue with 40k right now that there are so many army comps that require a very specific counter (or don't have one at all) that games are almost always stomps decided in the first two turns of the game. It's not about losing, it's about the armies not being fun.

I'd be fine losing as Tyranids if it actually felt like I was playing Tyranids, instead it feels like I'm playing some shitty lifeless third-party rules.

Surely it will be like AoS. The core rules will be free. The individual data sheets with power level like we saw for rubrics will be free. "General's handbook" with scenarios and points will cost money. Faction books (aka codex) will cost money but have all datasheets, points, artifacts, powers, army wide rules, unique detachment force orgs, lore, etc.
There might be compendium books with all the profiles for a large group of units (imperium, chaos, xenos).

If it's drastically different than this I'll be surprised.

You know that ork formation of stormboyz that ends up with a massive pile on your warboss? Had a player who scattered the full 6 (formation rules) into the only piece of terrain it could hit, and only at full scatter in that direction. They went into ongoing reserves, but on the next turn the same thing happened in another situation since with terrain and ground blobs there wasn't enough room for a full safe landing. Unless he wanted them on the other side of the board where neither player drew objectives.

Six again, into the only thing they could scatter into and only at max range in one direction. He rolled a 1. Dude played orks so he was used to it, but it was like watching a father's disappointed face upon realizing that all of his children ERP on furaffinity, or something equally miserable.

Tactical marines are 13 points? When the new rules seem to make them loads better? How low do ork boyz need to be to make that fair? 4 points each? 3?

I guess it makes sense if the smallest thing they bother to account for is 1 point, so maybe 1 point in the new rules is like 1.5-2 points in the old ones?

Who am I kidding? It's going to be basically the same but with more good shit for the favoured ones.

Also, smallest upgrade is a grav pistol? Not a melta bomb? With melta bombs missing from the thousand sons options, it looks like they might have been removed from the game entirely.

So, what are the implications of reserve points?

Obviously, it's better the more models you own and the more choices your faction has.

Deep-striking specialists seem like they are more available for some armies than others. Orks get stormboyz and fliers, marines get several types of terminators, fliers, dreadnoughts, any number of swiss-army-knife infantry units in drop-pods...

At least it means that armies which rely on overwhelming the enemy with maximum levels of one threat can be countered easily.

Curious about how reserves interact with detachments too. Presumably they don't count for filling out your FOC, since they don't exist until they arrive? Which in turn suggests that fliers must be able to start on the board, since they are on the FOCs we have seen,
>>
>>53198395
Perhaps Meltabombs are gonna be more expensive and useful? Multimeltas seem to have gone up in points, so perhaps Melts in general has gotten more expensive

The wording of the article is ambiguous. Could be that only summoned units need to be created from the pool of points and other reserves are more like we have now. Which is an interesting idea and gives chaos a unique strategy.

Can anyone explain how horrors work in AoS? Do they count as summoning blue horrors when the pink ones die, or is it a separate mechanic?

Hopefully it'll be something a focus on what's happening over Octarius sector with the Ork vs 'Nid Octarius War going on.

I mean, as much as the two seem to enjoy playing meatgrinder on each other, both factions HAVE to notice the galaxy-wide warp storm next door by now.

Plus, that tendril of Leviathan's pretty much guaranteed to lose anyway since Gork and Mork sent Ghazghkull in to sort shit out. Unless multi-meltas got some really unexpected boost, the relative costs for a marine and a multi-melta seem pretty crazy.

Basic marine is now about 1.5 times as survivable, thanks to new cover and AP rules, but has a slight decrease in killing power. Overall, that seems like it should have been a 1-2 point increase in value, although that value is debatable anyway.

Multi-melta is about as good at killing vehicles as before, but benefits from more generous move-and-fire for heavy weapons, splitting fire from the rest of the squad and doing relatively good damage to big creatures compared to before. Against an optimum target, can probably do a wound-and-half or so per turn (which probably translates to 20 point per turn, at best), compared to a marine shooting at other marines doing something like one tenth of a wound (so just over a point a turn). I guess that means a multi-melta dude has a damage output equivalent to fifteen or twenty bolter guys. Damage output needs to be balanced against survivability and other factors though, so probably he's only worth the square-root or cube-root of his relative damage output times the base guy's cost. Maybe 2.5 - 4 times a bolter marine... actual cost is 3 bolter marines.

True. But overall from what we've seen no profile is "radically" different. They've all been following (roughly) a similar conversion path.

>Warpflamers and Soulreaper Cannons being the only deviations, as both have one more AP than they "should" have, given their 7e profile

Yeah. You never know. Maybe a Multimeltas is Heavy 2 now something as well?

I wonder if that Flamer pistol the Rubric Sgt uses confirms that all hand Flamers are D6 hits? People seemed stoked about the possibility of Seraphim's 2d6 auto-hitting shots while in melee the other day.

>True. But overall from what we've seen no profile is "radically" different. They've all been following (roughly) a similar conversion path.
>>Warpflamers and Soulreaper Cannons being the only deviations, as both have one more AP than they "should" have, given their 7e profile

The soulreaper's can be explained by rending converting to an extra -1 AP. Warpflamer bonus is a bit weird, since it's AP would have been good anyway with the new rules and it would have worked out easier to just make it cheaper.

Curious how closely 'power level' matches points and whether it includes upgrades. Will rubrics be around 16 points each now? Does a devastator squad have a higher power level than a tactical one because they could take more heavy weapons? If so, why not charge an extra power level for the rubrics which let you take soulreaper cannons?

>Armageddon isn't too far out of the way from Holy Terra

Y'know, if I were Abaddon and I really wanted to convince everyone I was the true champion of chaos, I'd probably make it a point to crush Armageddon on the way to Terra, since a) the planet's one helluva weapons factory (despite not being Mechanicus controlled), b) It'd prove to primarchs like Angron that I'm worthy of some respect, and c) it'd cripple Imperium morale even more after losing Cadia.

Only problem is the Orks really, REALLY like that planet, so I'd have to fight them AND the corpse-worshipping fools to conquer it. Shouldn't be too hard. After all, I just beat Creed! Armageddon doesn't have anyone like that! Greenskins, Guardsmen and Astartes will be easy pickings by comparison!

Summon spam is like the designers looked at how annoying horde armies were and said "yeah I can top that"

Not only are they just as time consuming as horde armies but they have the added benefit that if you don't beat the summon spamming chuckle fuck down enough for even one turn he instantly reaches critical mass and wins.

DPS checks have no place in this game.

Stars move at about 1/10,000 speed of light
10,000 years would result in about 1 light year of movement

Old Terra was basically DAoT warlords with turbo psykers so scary that even even demons where afraid to dick them over. It was a time when the enemy had miniature black hole guns as side arms for retarded peasants. (Exaggeration I know)

You needed OP soldiers that could end the battle fast. Marines on the other hand where made for the long game. Having peace time in mind when making them.

TW would be nuking an entire country.
Marines would be lunching a missile to destroy a single base.

Both will win the war, but one will do it faster, with a lot more secondary damage

>>The points for units don’t appear on the datasheet but will be elsewhere in the same book. This is because you don’t need them to play if you don’t want, which frees up room to include more rules for weapons on the datasheet. It also means that, in the future, points for units could change without invalidating existing books – so if one unit or weapon starts to dominate tournaments, or certain units don’t seem to be carrying their weight in competitive games, we can address the balance.

If it's printed in the book, then surely changing the points will invalidate the book? The only thing it doesn't invalidate is the datasheet itself, but if the datasheets are in the same book as the points then it doesn't help...

I was on Reddit when fallout 4 was just about to come out, plebbiters have a weird cringy way to get hyped for things they are passionate about coming out, it's one of the many reasons I realized that site wasn't the home for me
>>
>>53200115
where did I mention chaos
the outsider is the hivemind
>>
>>53200115
>necrons don't care about chaos
Considering that only Trollzyn cared about defending the Pylons, you are not wrong.

>And he didn't even really "care" about said Pylons
>>
>>53200109
Nice 4th edition lore
>>
>>53200107
So do you think Dark Angels are traitors too, redditor?
>>
>>53200133
>the outsider is the hivemind

I prefer to think Iash, the Endless Swarm is

>They came to us as gods and we, like fools, took them at their word. Mephet'ran the Deceiver, Aza'gorod the Nightbringer, Iash'uddra the Endless Swarm; I curse their names, and the names of all their malevolent brethren. - Szarekh, the Silent King

Notice he calls out both Deciever and Nightbringer, C'tans we know. Both why is Iash included? We know nothing of him.

>>
>>53200123
I go to reddit when I get tired of people calling each other faggots and autists.
>>
>>53200143
Not him but I consider all marines traitors.
>>
>>53200154
it does make sense, but that is the only reference to him in existence

would be nice if they expanded on that more, I much preferred the old necron lore
>>
>>53200159
They call each other things since those words get you banned. Or have multiple account just to shitpost to eternity and enjoy their little brains trying to comprehend what the flying fuck is happening

Reddit should be glad old /b/ is gone since that site would had been nuked by weaponised autism long ago
>>
go from and army

>>
>>53200157
He's the purest Necron. They wanted to live longer than the Eldar. Sure he'll slaughter anything he feel like, but he still looks for ways to entertain himself. How often do you see something that's immortal trying to actually enjoy immortality?

And then I cringed harder than I did from any reddit screencap I've seen. At least recently.
>>
Can we pause for a moment to appreciate how cool of a character Yvraine is? Intricately nuanced, well-developed, arguably Mary Sue but not OP like Draigo is/was.
>>
>>53200246
>Draigo still exists
>>
>>53200267
But no longer as OP as he was during his Draigowing days.
>>
>>53200143
GW made Trollzyn real. You're actually retarded if you think their writers aren't directly copying memes and fanfics into their lore now.
>>
>>53200288
Trazyn was always trickster and collector.
>>
Which FW models will make it into the base game next ed?

>Quickly! Smash your voidship into the webway for me! I'm a Dark Eldar so you can trust me!
>Okay

>Quickly! Let me steal all the souls of your ancestors! I'm a Dark Eldar so you can trust me!
>Okay

>Quickly! Let me save your primarch by murdering the shit out of him! I'm a Dark Eldar so you can trust me!
>Okay

Truly there has never been a more nuanced and subtle character.

>>

I'm not sure how much of a rapport you need to build with the ultramarines before they let a xeno witch off their primarch but I'm certain it's more than what can be accomplished in a few pages.

>Guilliman and Yarrick are fighting Abaddon hand-to-hand on Armageddon
>They're losing
>Abby backhands Yarrick into a wall before he pins Guilliman to the ground with one boot on the primarch's chest and reaches down to rip his head off with the Talon of Horus
>The ground shakes violently underneath them, causing several nearby Hive spires to collapse as the area's hit by an earthquake and knocking Abaddon off Rowboat
>There's a massive burst of green teleportation energy behind Abaddon as he staggers backward, throwing up a huge dust cloud
>Yarrick watches dumbfounded as one very confused Swarmlord goes flying end-over-end out of the tellyporta beam, hits Abby in the back and knocks the Despoiler to the ground and continues flying before slamming through the wall of a nearby hab-block, which proceeds to collapse on top of it
>Abaddon gets to his feet and snarls as he turns around, swinging his daemon sword around blindly: "WHO DARES?!"
>Suddenly one Astartes-sized Powerklaw comes down out of the dust cloud and rips off Abby's sword arm at the shoulder
>A gigantic Ork hand grabs Abby's other arm and hold him in place as a Beast-sized Ghazghkull slams his adamantium skull into Abaddon's forehead with a devastating headbutt before kicking him back toward Guilliman and Yarrick, ripping his other arm off in the process
>Ghazghkull (in perfect Gothic): "So Yarrick... who let the Chaos gits into OUR fight?"
>>
Hmmm looking through the pastebin and was curious. Did we lose the original full copy of collected visions? Can only seem to find the part 1 of the rerelease there?
>>
>>53200393
Their weapons are too good to have longer range.
>>
>>53200394
Campaign books are short, you the player fill in the blanks, largely through the games you play.
>>
>>53200384
Repressor will be miss in 8th.
>>
>>53200456
Personally I wouldn't be surprised if sisters got folded into the inquisition codex.
>>
>>53200332
You mean, which will get citadel kits?

Blight drones, possibly. There's some hints of them in the death guard preview and something that looks vaguely similar in one of the 8th edition photos (but it's so fucking small you can't really tell what it is).

Mark V or VI armour seems likely to get a box in the same way Mk III and IV did.

Primarchs, although in their 40k versions.

Maybe one of the imperial fighter planes.

Possibly something big for marines. Not a thunderhawk, but maybe a fellblade, spartan or leviathan dread. I'd say the leviathan seems like the best bet, considering the emphasis on giant robots recently and the glaring lack of one in their most popular army. On the other hand, I think something new which maybe takes some design cues from those would be more likely. They mentioned new weapons and so on coming from mars for the new crusade.
>>
>>53200434
When the heat death of the universe occurs, we would all still be rolling our d6s in endless games of 40k before the Ultramarines would trust a fucking Xenos with their Primarch, it's a stretch that they trusted Cawl with him.
>>
>>53200516
Holy fuck do i want a dedicated mk6 box. I could finally make a raven guard army without losing my mind looking for bits
>>
>>53200332
Peltasts and Hoplites, it doesn't make much sense to sell backpacks, heads, and arms/weapons as FW resin when you still need a citadel plastic torso/legs to make the model.

Aside from that I want DKoK plastic so more people play them.

I was roped into helping with the kids section for one of those school fete things, and while I was assembling this fort for that "randomly guess for the buried treasure" game I noticed there was no keep. So I got some arty shit from the next table and made the world's lowest budget diorama in ten minutes.
I admit the slaughter of the IF was perhaps not suitable kids entertainment, but if anyone gets the thing I'll be surprised.
>>
>>53197268
Yeah, I'm feeling good too. Age of proper armies begins now, the Skitarii shall march with their superlative medium infantry and cheap dakka tanks quite happily in the new edition. TPD is sad he can't tank for Vanguard any more and Templates were cool, but small fry.

That's a shame, it makes more sense to me have the AS be a part of the inquisition. UNLESS they give sisters some more stuff to round out their army.

Technically speaking SoB are not part of the Inquisition they are more like internal police of the church.

They are like the watchmen that watches the watchmen

So how bout that point system?

3+ saves are bane of my existence. I like to mathhammer my lists if only because I like the idea of knowing how reliable a unit should be. Then lady luck comes and makes a mockery of statistical chance.

Hey my dudes. After hearing about the continuation of the lore and junk I kinda want to get back into 40k with a new army. Was going to make some black templars to hate fuck or die trying.

Would now be a good time to get a rulebook or should I wait, like are we in between atm or what. Black templar requesting fuck(sit)-rep.
