Wondering if any of you has any tips or reference to a book/manual a DM might read in order to create more interesting encounters.

By interesting I mean dynamic ; something more than enemy party composition, like terrain and elements that may make players think "Mmh, we should try using this to our advantage" instead of "I side-step and full attack".

How would you add some decent healing onto the Rubato package, while still doing cool buffs and damage?

I'm trying to help a player with their character and so far they are the only one who is trying to support and heal.Granted, they have potions and will probably buy wands once they get back to a city.

Ain't no such thing as decent healing.
Healing in combat is fundamentally wasting your action and hindering the party because you could have been useful that turn. Only exception is if the enemy is doing jackshit that's not damage and their raw damage is piss poor.

That said, the Silver Crane healing boosts are a nice way to throw some sugar around. Not really great, but they'll make him feel healy without being trash.

Drop the Rubato part, and roll a different kind of Bard. Spells are going to give you more than enough cool buffs and damage without locking you into being just another damage guy, and you'll have appreciable healing as well.

The absolute best mind control build would be a kitsune mesmerist//sorcerer gestalt, using Psychic Inception from mesmerist to affect mind-affecting-immune enemies, stares to lower Will saves, and sorcerer spells for the heavy lifting.

Between the Will penalty from stares and the DC boost from kitsune sorcerer, I'm pretty sure the character would be able to one-hit dominate a lot of adventure path end bosses.

More versatility. The spell list isn't great--one could argue it's not even really any good--but it does provide more neat little tricks and a wider range of options than the various kinds of martial capabilities the Rubato does. So why settle?

They have a good spread of stuff from their template to go caster, martial, or both very effectively. I haven't looked at Pathfinder's lich template but I think the vampire provides more opportunities and is generally comparable stat-wise, until you get into silly shit like demi-liches.

That the Vampire will also be charismatic and using Dominate liberally doesn't help if your DM plays them as remotely cunning and sneaky.

No but seriously, the average 'player' is about as dumb as rocks when it comes to this thing. I can't fault the ones who are big into the roleplaying but not good at tactics, the rest though? Fuck 'em.

D&D started as a wargame and has never deviated very far from that. Pathfinder is just the same. A little forethought and communication wouldn't kill anyone.

So my group got really excited about this concept where they try to adapt a pc from different mmo's they've played. So for example one guy chose one of his characters from the final fantasy mmo, and another chose a character from black desert online. I haven't played mmo's in a while so I wasn't terribly excited about the idea at first, but then i remembered that I used to play Vindictus a shit ton. I was thinking of trying to adapt the scythe evie to pathfinder. Scythe evie was basically a wizard that used a scythe and specialized in necromancy (in the stealing life/debuffing/cursing kind of way rather than summoning undead). I was looking for some suggestions on what classes to go for, especially from anyone who remembers playing Vindictus.

You can consider using a wizard who wields a scythe and uses dnd and specializes in necromancy.. Alternatively you can take the wizard archetype that focuses on necromancy while using a scyth.

Or you can play a necromancer undead lord with a scythe because they automatically get proficiency in their god's weapon so you don't have to spend a weapon proficiency feat on gaining scythe proficiency.

It's all about making your character human and rounded. Think about all their little quirks and flaws, make them likable, and give the GM and other players a reason to find them sympathetic and possibly sexy.

Memes are no guarantee of quality, so don't bother chasing those. But hey, if you've got a schtick you figure will give someone a chuckle, go with it. Just don't get too obnoxious with your posting.

I sometimes put my players before enemies I know they can't hope to beat. An example was a level 7 group fighting against a level 19 Rakshasa monk.

I go in the following pattern:

>demonstration of power
>offer of terms
>kill 1-2 PCs
>offer of terms

If the third offer is not taken he kills the rest of the party. This sort of 'before something of great power' is a way I measure players. How they react and whether they accept the terms tells me a lot about how they play.

Becoming undead, but that's probably not practical for a paladin. One! Claiming is a swift action, draining is a move action, and Terrifying Blow is a standard.
And if I claim another creature next round, I recover Terrifying blow and can do it all over again.

Only real issues I'm aware of are that things immune to fear shit on it, and that there's no actions left for moving so I have to delay until something comes close enough.

It's the bane of any intimidate build, anon. That being said, it's not bad. Better than 1pp intimidate options

Be wary of using it on fast enemies, party members sometimes get upset when you frighten them and they run, never to be seen again.

Also, it doesn't scale well against BAMs past level 10-12 in my experience.
