I was hoping to make a beefy frontline melee shaman but after looking at the spirit selection I'm not too impressed. How weak is a martial shaman compared to the standard support build?

I know I won't be able to keep up with something like a barbarian or a fighter, but does the extra utility make the build worthwhile anyway, or would I just be better off building differently?

I've played it, and while the campaign's not good in the way Jade Regent or Curse of the Crimson Throne is good, it's so spectacularly hammy and self-aware that it's just a jolly good show. So what are /pfg/'s thoughts on a /pfg/ game like this.

Persistent campaign with a ton of players technically in, idk, like 20 or something.

But rather than being a open clusterfuck, being "in" the game just means your can put in Apps for individual quests, which are the actual campaigns that would be run, single adventures that will probably take a month or two in real time with weekly games, then when its over every one re-apps for the next quest.

The applications are more literal, the monarch or whatever is the person reviewing your IC apps and deciding who to send on the next quest.

When not on a quest, everyone's character's can still do downtime stuff like share info on the overarching plot or whatever.

I guess I've never hard-and-fast-ruled this but in my mind, robot characters don't lack emotions or understanding, they just always have one exaggerated trait or purpose that they pursue with unnatural levels of drive. If the robot has a job as a guard and was (or thinks he was) made for it, he's utterly obsessed with it. He can think outside the box and carry on other conversation, but he'd always rather be doing, preparing for, or talking about his thing. If a robot's decided his role and purpose in a community is to be a suave joke-telling scoundrel at the pub, he pursues that with everything he has just the same.

The robot decides there's *one thing* that he's all about, and makes it so.

Our two PCs were Norgorber-worshiping sisters in Kasai, post-Ameiko. Our patron in the cult had given us a lead on a certain succubus, who had entered a pact with Norgorber's faithful. The succubus was bound to hand out a couple of profane gifts with no strings attached and absolutely no abuse of the link.

We followed the lead and discovered the erotic fiction of a certain writer. Said writer had legions of female fans all throughout Minkai, and many of his detractors claimed that his heavily fetishistic writings drove women astray or turned them depraved. This writer lived in a luxurious boat eternally on the bay, surrounded by guards who turned away all visitors. The writer also spoke of a certain "muse" woman who inspired him; we thought that the succubus was this "muse."

We traveled by rowboat to the writer's ship, and noted that the half-dozen guards were all female. While we were still on our rowboat, we tried to psychically compel the guards to let us through, with the help of luck-rigging mechanics to force the compulsions, but they proved to have exceptionally strong wills. They raised an alarm and threatened us with bows, since half of them were dedicated archers.

We acted first in the battle. After launching a fear effect at them, we discovered that they were utterly fearless; it dawned on us that they were paladins. My character teleported aboard the ship to instantly knock out one of the paladins. The ensuing battle was very difficult and nearly resulted in a party wipe; we had to make ample use of terrain and positioning to survive, and even then, only with sterling luck. Ultimately, we subdued the lady-paladins nonlethally out of curiosity on what was going on.

After having disarmed and disarmored the half-dozen paladins, we spotted another paladin girl. She had shed her full plate and was trying to swim towards the rowboat, while carrying a young boy. Presumably, this was the erotic fiction writer. After a few threats, we convinced her to get back on board with her master in tow.

That paladin-lady was confused by our off-handed mention of a succubus, so the little author boy invited us back to his opulent cabin. Thanks to remarkable skill and luck with Perception, our characters pointed out that he was, in fact, a girl. We explained to the kid that we were looking for "his" succubus muse... and my character directly asked "him" if "he" was, in fact, that very succubus. The "boy" proceeded to reveal his true form of a horned and winged succubus who could still pass for a young boy.

The succubus explained that her plan was to corrupt all of Minkai's women through excessively depraved erotic fiction. It was definitely working. She even showed us her trove of manuscripts, some of which were illustrated.

Some time ago, the succubus entered a pact with Norgorber's faithful to receive magical resources with which to conceal her alignment and demonic nature. While I do hope for better gun rules in Starfinder I hope the guns in the game won't be bland in the sense that "Oh, you have a pistol and a shotgun" and then just call it from there.

I want to have gunsmiths who make you go on a crazy quest to make a gun from exotic parts like needing the heart of some outsider creature to power your super laser gun or to fight an elemental creature so your bullets can be supercharged with that element or having a gunsmith who wants to personally duel you so he can figure out how you fight and make the best gun possible for you.

Well, I have some good news for you.

First, we have confirmation that the Mechanic will be able to do two things - first, they'll be able to get more out of a piece of armor or a weapon than other classes, capable of giving themselves short term buffs. Second, we know that Mechanics will be able to mod existing weapons to make them better.

We also have confirmation that mundane weapons will have scaling damage with level. It was noted that this is to help facilitate getting past needing shitloads of magic and still being unable to do one-shot builds, such as what Vital Strike was meant to do.

third, while magical enchanting will still be a thing, technology is meant to replace most aspects of what magic can do, and thus crafting can be entirely mundane and still achieve the same end. that's something I'm very much looking forward to.

My planned character for Starfinder is a Mechanic with a sniper rifle and an implanted AI buddy that does spotting for her. she'll build guns for herself and her team, mod the shit out of them, and provide fire from long range while the frontliners engage.

Sure, they have some generic guns in the core game, but in supplements they can put out shit like specialty weapons from a corporation, certain types of weapon variants from different races, new mods for old parts of the weapon, and so on.

The problem is hype focus, for Starfinder.

When I saw all the "Science fiction Pathfinder" games coming up, I decided to not play any of them. not only does my schedule not allow it, but Pathfinder isn't made for it, and that's eminently clear in the way the game deals with armor and guns interacting. It's frankly pretty fucking terrible in that respect, and 3pp can't seem to fix it because they're trying to patch a system that wasn't built for it.
