>everyone butthurt over 8th edition changes are oldfags clinging desperately to nostalgia

I can't wait to see how quickly people forget about Riptide wings and Scatbike spam when they're trying to tear down 8th's rules. People are honestly so dumb, there is nowhere to go but up from 7e
>>
>>52977916
Don't expect everything to be hunky dory after such drastic and dramatic changes. Odds are when the dust settles, something else will be sitting on top of the cheese-throne.
>>
>>52977916
People were saying exactly the same, almost word for word when the Tyranid 6th ed was on its way. That shit ended up with a lot of depression, bitterness and canceled pre-orders
>>
>>52977916

Why would people be butthurt about a new edition anyway?
If you don't like it, just play an older edition.
My group regularly plays 3ed, because 7ed is pretty shit imo.

Alpha Legion
"I am Alpharius" is a hilarious rule and infiltrating chosen is value
Also I quite enjoy the idea of a "not really chaos" army that follows its own motives most of the time.
Also I know this may sound ignorant, but what has AL done during 40k?
>>
>>52978111
today? Built a tyranid SC box + hormagaunt box in preparation for 8e. Also kept plugging away at painting my 2,000 custodes army
>>
So do we have a bolter profile yet? Do they have -1 or 0? I play guard and being able to have that save vs bolters would be great.
>>
My local Gw manager (who told me about a new thunder hawk, overlords, and death watch before public knowledge) said the new marines are RGs new breed. Old marines are still valid and these will have new stats. They're between custodes and current marines in the line up of things....
via Sources on Faeit 212
Sorry, the new marines will not get their box sets for awhile, "near end of summer" and there will be new assault marines and terminators coming along shortly thereafter.
>>
>>52977916
Orks and Guard could maybe have a damn chance for once.

I just want order my guardsmen and hold the line. For 3 editions guard platoon play has meant auto loss. That's complete bullshit, screw 7ed, bring on 8th.

How do I paint Deldar anon?

Been looking to get into 40k and Deldar look the most interesting to me but seem a little bit intimidating to paint.
>>
What if they add a 'shoot back' mechanic in the shooting phase? Like instead of the phase being one sided both players alternate between firing units, something like

>Any unit that has been shot at may fire back at its attacker ,right after it has finished its attacks,if any of its weapons are within range, if it wishes to fire at another unit it must pass a leadership test.

Basically making the Shooting Phase a shared phase where the active player fires first.

In this case yes, because the idea is to show that even people who statistically don't play Warhammer could still play it...

...Not that they will. I could be wrong, though. Hard to tell when everything has to have token genders and ethnicities these days.

I think we'd all prefer to see these two at the table instead, with the subtitle "Don't get any funny ideas guys, she's taken!"

It's been like 5 years since I played 40k and I am thinking of starting back up again. What's going to be good in 8th edition? Is guard worth playing?

Am i remembering correctly, +1A for all charging models?
Or is there anything else that makes orks better fir once at melee?
>>
>>52978104
Either Death Guard or Emperor's Children. Death Guard is because I like the slow, daunting advance of relentless assholes who won't die and Papa Nurgle is my spirit animal. Emperor's Children is mainly because of the pre-heresy color scheme, though Slaanesh would probably be the second choice for chaos god anyway.

>>

Planning out ideas for an Ork army. My old concept was reliant on the Ork Submersible still being a thing, but that's probably gonna be out even harder with 8th than it already was.

That said, I've lost a lot of motivation since my group hasn't been playing lately. I'd try and schedule stuff, but playing 7e when the new edition is right around the corner feels meh.

>>
>>52978104
I hate to say it, but Black Legion. They've just been through so much, and they're an empire at this point. Not to mention they're exiles, turncoats, refugees, and renegades of their own traitor warbands. The renegades of the renegades, and yet somehow greater than that for it. Other chaos legions wince when they hear the name, it's actually pretty poetic that they'd be the ones to lead the Black Crusades, and to rally Chaos under one banner. All without a daemon primarch to their name! They really put the others to shame.
>>
>>52978290
I'll be so hyped if the starter set has like 10 plague marines and a few plague drones. I've been wanting to do death guard and this will get cheap as fuck models. Nice.

>>
>>52978341
I feel like hit and run should really be something like you can charge in, attack, and then retreat before the enemy takes their attacks. I mean, after all, that's what a hit-and-run is.
>>
>>52978290
Those Marines doesn't look bigger except for the assault guys for obvious reasons, let's wait and see.
>>
>>52978364
It's just a thing you do. No roll.

Start of movement, you can have a squad in combat fall back. If you do, they just move their movement, and can't shoot or charge or do anything else for the turn.

It makes charging a gunline harder regardless of army, but also means that it's more preferred that you just kill an entire unit on the charge instead of trying to stay locked in so you won't be shot.

Problem is the cork shelves still pull the models farther away from the table in an obvious way. Like they're on plinths or something. Gotta blend it in with some filler in parts, break it up to make it less one giant block, have it look a bit more naturalized.

cork's a great basing material, but covering most of the base with one chunk is always going to look a bit naff

> Mentioning RG's new breed
Anon, that's not going to be the same thing. He's probably referring to The Raptors, which were a set of genetic aberrations that came about when Corvus Corax attempted to renew his legion's numbers via heavy genetic experimentation using technology granted to him by the emperor himself. He created some special marines that were an in-between of Primarch and Space Marine, which could be implanted in INFANTS/TODLERS instead of adolescents, and would produce a fully grown space marine within the span of a few hours. Said explosive growth led to them having extremely high mortality rates, as well as concerns that the resulting space marines were comparatively inexperienced and almost childish in their mentality.

In fact, the earliest Raptors treated battle as a fun game. Like it was ~fun~ to try and outperform the hardened veterans, which was easy for them because they were faster, tougher, and overall smarter(despite being horribly inexperienced) than their peers.

But... Alpha Legion operators infiltrated the raven guard legion, and added Daemon Blood to the genetic template that corax was using. This caused his Raptors to suffer rapid randomized mutations, some of which resulted in creating Chaos Spawn, while others enhanced or disabled many of the raptors. Corax decided to take what fate had given him, and armed the ones that could carry weapons, and took the rest as meat shields.

After the Horus Heresy, the last remaining Raptors were given a single battle barge, and told to fuck off to the farthest corner of the galaxy to form their own chapter.

It's not that hard guys..
> Take a base
> Add some strips of cork with PVA
> Use PVA to add rocks
> Prime(or optional switch this step with the rocks if you prefer Natty rocks)
> Texture Paint
> Wash
> Drybrush one colour
> Drybrush a lighter colour
> Use more PVA glue to add some grass or shrubs. Natty shrubs work great with natty rocks, just place some tiny plants nestled within the nook of a few rocks, because that's where happy bushes sleep.

Models can be greatly improved by a nice base, just don't fall for the trap of making the base more interesting than your model.

I really got more of a African child soldiers vibe from it. While most of the other characters were cold and almost dead inside(Warranted, they just survived the Drop Site Massacre. They used terminology and speaking styles just like normal children, while eventually getting 'hardened' as the books go on and they take on more serious ideas.

Well, they'll take twice as many small-arms weapons to kill, which is a plus. They will be more heavily affected by AP 3/4 stuff lowering their save, but even a 4+ isn't too bad with the extra wound balancing it out.

And any bigger guns like Lascannons now have a chance to only deal 1 wound, meaning that rather than instant death there's an extra chance to live on top of the 5+. Plus some things like plasma might still only do 1 damage, making you need twice as many of those to kill them as well.

It depends somewhat on what becomes the popular meta, whether people go for high volumes of infantry shooting to glance everything, medium volumes of -1 rend stuff that fires a lot of shots to try and take things out with high strength shooting that denies them a bit of their save, or if it's back to all-in trying to ignore armor and deal as much damage as possible.

Still, aside from a slightly increased weakness to Heavy Bolters (made up for by the extra wound), I think it is an improvement over all.

After serving with distinction the company was honoured as a Chapter and the Raptors were founded during the reforms initiated by the Codex Astartes. The problem with templates is they slow the hell out of the game. Rolling for scatter with the very inexact arrow die, trying to eyeball how many dudes you hit, arguing with your opponent about how many you hit, and only then rolling to wound. It also slows down the movement phase because everyone has to make sure their dudes are all as far apart as possible to avoid blasts. Just making things D6 autohit wounds, for example, is much more streamlined.

There's really not much more to them as far as 40k fluff goes. They have their own chapter tactics, as well as a special character chapter master. They fought in the Badab War, but aside from that, nearly 99% of their fluff is left intentionally vague so that you the player can fill in the blanks yourself.

As far as tactics goes, they are more or less sneaky marksmen.

I used to run Raptors before I switched to steel confessors. You would probably be much better off getting some scouts and sternguard vets to run them as Kill Teams, rather than collect an entire army. Which is really where their chapter tactics and style of play excels.

>>52979120
I'm talking about the Horus Heresy novels , which is mentioned more on the 40kwikia page. As far as the Lexicanum page goes, it actually seems to have left out all of the information about the Raptors that you learn in the book Deliverence Lost.

yeah templates are pretty contentious when you have play against shit players. one of my mates is an alright dude overall but man he hates losing, and will literally always try to finagle the best result in his favor

>looks like I hit 5 of your guys with this large blast, yeah?
>dude no way! it's only 2. actually I'm not even sure you have LoS, lemme check

this same faggot will even move the dice to a six *while I'm watching him* and deny, like somehow he thought he would get away when I'm watching his hands. so getting rid of templates and replacing it with something potentially less contentious will smooth out the game when playing against autists in tournaments or if you just don't have many options for pickup games. I'm still not sure I like it since putting templates over a bunch of enemy models is pretty satisfying and there's a psychological factor against your opponent as well but, it does make a bit of sense.

The best I can suggest is to get a feel for them by checking out some of their backstory by reading Deliverence Lost, as well as the "Raptor" audiobook made by Gav Thorpe. Which as far as audiobooks go, it's easily one of the better ones available. Ambience is almost godly, same with the voice acting and sound effects, which makes it a full audio-drama.

Those look hella good man, way better than my own raptors. I have been having a hell of a lot of fun at a Shadow War tournament with my scout marines. Just today, Squad "Rapture" took first place in week three of my store's tournament, with a promethium total of 13, to the next runner up's 10. Their distinct style really suits the feel of Shadow War, since you've got tactical operating scouts, being all sneaky and shooty.

Right now my kill team is up 3 snipers(All 3 have Toxin Rounds and Crack Shot, HELLA OP combination), 5 dudes with bolters, and a heavy bolter squad support. Although the heavy bolter is going to sit out my next game due to injuries. For my support sideboard I have a Sternguard Vet named Rapture, and an Apothecary named Cyanide. Cyanide got himself downed of course when he charged an ork on my game 5, and rolled triple 1s with his chainsword like a dumbass.

Considering even AoS has a few spells that can hit units within x distance of their impact the issue may be better or worse in those few instances.

And really the whole point of a few units like the Deathstrike is their ability to hit a bunch of units.

this actually sounds great and gives me a bunch of ideas for skin-pieces for my night lords. you still put epoxy or something over it right? or is there some way to make it durable?
>>
>>52979333
You can do a couple things. Here's the method:
> Place the model you wish to cloak on a strip of foil
> Cut some foil so that it's slightly taller, and roughly as wide as the model.
> Press the foil firmly onto the parts of the model that you want to attach it to BEFORE gluing
> Once it has the shape you want, put superglue on all of the spots that it touches the model
> Once that's done, 'reinforce' the cape by coating it in a layer of PVA glue

You can also buy up medical gauze to cut and stretch it to make Ghille. I haven't personally done this with my scouts, but I've seen another higher level painter do it with his.

>>
>>52979455

Monstrous Creatures are getting wound buffs across the board, so I imagine they'll be improved at least somewhat.

With the new dev team and their confirmation that rules for factions will change fairly frequently in response to player feedback, my assumption is that all factions will be on mostly even footing, with a select few being more meta due to mathatical min-maxing, though not to the extent that top codices are today.

The vaunted "super customizability" of biomorphs from pre-5th edition Nids is never coming back though. That style of play is dead and buried.

I don't understand how the frequent rules updates are supposed to work. It sounds like they want to do something like Infinity, but that requires free rules. And yet, in the FAQ they say different things.

>the rules will be available in cheap books
>implying they'll be cheap
>BUT we'll also be constantly updating things!
>and you can download rules online (but we just said you'll need "cheap" books?)

They responded to mine just fine. They just had me send them a picture of my receipt and I got an email that my voucher would be sent to me within two weeks the next day.

in fact they do. GW is known for being pretty good about customer support and will send you free replacements if your models you bought are fucked up. this is considered one of the things they have consistently done right. they even answer inane questions from just about anybody, and now you can hit up the fb page as well, if it's a customer support thing on fb they'll tell you to email them. they answered my question about FW rules once (with a bullshit non-answer, but at least they responded)
>>
>>52979515
>The core rules for the game will be free, and you’ll have several options on how you get your hands on the full rulebook
What is hard to understand? The core rules are free. These will be updated. There will also be a rulebook, presumably full of fluff and hobby stuff. This is a product that you pay money for.
>>

Right, sent an email to this address. The one listed on the International webstore is [email protected] for some reason.
>>
>>52979551
the "core rules will be free" can be interpreted many ways though. I don't want to be overly pessimistic but when the "core rules" are free, but the "full rulebook" is a separate thing, it makes me think they mean some dark vengeance-esque pamphlet of bullshit will be free to b8 noobies but if you actually want to play the game normally you'll have to shell out for books.

bah whatever I hope they don't pull any shenanigans and actually just make a stripped down rules pdf with everything needed to play for free but no fluff etc, but we'll see.

What have Space Wolves got to do with anything?

We'll be fine thank you very much in 8th considering our codex is written by a lore / rules writer whose favorite faction is Space Wolves.

Just think about this Cruddace is considered to be the defacto expert on Tyranids and will continue to write your codex until he leaves the company. Oh by the way he doesn't collect Tyranids and actively dislikes them.
>>
>>52979591
Basically, the "how to play, and rule changes affecting this" will be free but the faction specific books containing special rules/keywords/fluff will be sold as $20 codexs
