Real life, Sima Yi is a high INT expert/warrior multiclass. Cao Cao is the same, except less INT and more CHA.

Former would probably be 7-10 levels in aristocrat +/- some expert levels

Latter would be 5-6 aristocrat levels with Sima Yi having 3-4 sorcerer levels and Cao Cao having a few bard levels and cavalier levels.

I don't see a link to "Striken with Pain" as an effect like Blinded or Dazzled. Something like Spontaneous Immolation definitely hurts like shit but it doesn't debuff you, ergo "pain" is more like a side effect of whatever Pain spells actually do.

I really don't think so. Thing is, every other method of causing pain...doesn't inflict debuffs. You could Death Clutch someone and rip his fucking heart out, smack him in the face with a exploding Meteor Swarm, or use Acid fog to melt someone into a paste and there are no debuffs for being in pain.
In other words, unless there's a specific "it actually sickens / staggers / penalizes" you beyond just putting you in pain, there's no reason to believe pain actually matters.

I don't see why you guys are even bothering to discuss what might possibly be one of the dullest franchises in history. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

It hasn't been statted for D&D to my knowledge, so the only correct answer is "whatever the GM says it does".

It's a pretty big deal in HP-verse, but there don't seem to be a lot of high-level spells with pain descriptor. I'd probably use http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/debilitating-pain/ as a baseline, with duration changed to concentration, and possibly some milder after effect once the concentration stops. Mind you, it's been a long time since I last read the books.

Well, considering that James later dedicated his life to fighting Voldemort and being a member of the Order, I feel like he eventually turned his life around at some point and ,thanks to Harry's mom finally learned to care and dedicate himself to something greater.

Meanwhile Snape, after all the shit he went through and having to convince other people that he was an evil pawn of Voldemort, still fought the good fight as Dumbledore's confidant and kept things going, even sacrificing his own future and happiness to do so, even when he had every reason to give up and become a villain.

So this is how the game started. I realized none of the party could find me unless I wanted them to. So proceeded to never reveal myself to the party. I used vital strike and readied actions, would fire an arrow at the same time characters attacked so it would be hidden. I would steal my portion of the treasure from the party (not anything higher than my share).

The party grew increasingly enraged by my tiny goblin who followed around their edgy mary sue adventures.

So I'm trying to turn the Medusa into a playable race with no natural hit dice. Challenge is how to include some kind of petrifying gaze that 1. isn't save-or-die 2. has a more interesting limitation than "x uses per day". This is what I've got so far, thoughts are welcomed.

Just give them a gaze attack dealing 1 Dex damage as those affected slowly petrify, Fort negates, does not calcify the mefusa to use. Maybe a succesful save renders them immune for 24 hours, but a chain of racial feats can negate that and add more Dex damage down the line.

Or have it only work for X rounds per day.

It's a lot of patchwork fixes. "Here's something to shore up your terrible to-hit", "here's something to shore up your terrible saves", "here's stuff to compensate for how nonsense your limitations are", etc. It's a massive improvement, but it just makes the Rogue even unchained jump from "Irredeemable shit" to "at least playable without a billion hours on pfsrd to optimize".
