>DPH: I’ve mentioned briefly in the introduction about where the meaning of the ‘Flame Princess’ came from, but what’s the full story?

>JRIV: Back in the 90s when I first got on the web and few bands had websites and they'd link to every single online fan's sites they could find, I ran across the site of this one Finnish woman, and, well, she was the most beautiful person I'd ever seen. The email link was already dead, so I created an imaginary character to go with the pictures on the site. (Fictional-world imaginary, not trying-to-imagine-who-this-person-really-is imaginary.) When I finally figured out how to get in touch years later she thought I was creepy. Imagine that. The woman who serves as the reference model for the Flame Princess character these days is a completely different person, someone who has waist-length flame-red hair that I came across when I moved to Helsinki.

Some guy posted a few years ago about how he had head lice as a child and he ended up turning it into a setting. It was really autistic but the guy had put genuine effort into writing about it, he even drew a few pictures. As you can expect /tg/ made fun of him and he went absolutely apeshit. He never came back so I am wondering if he ended up committing suicide. But yeah it was probably the most cringeworthy RPG setting I have seen.

No, I just remember it was around 2014 or so. He had this story from when he was younger and he'd tried to turn it into an RPG setting. I remember feeling bad for him because it was really shitty but you could tell he'd put a ton of work into it. He almost certainly had some kind of mental illness because he apparently didn't have any friends. The only other thing I remember was he mentioned a giant tree named Sarengard, but like I said it was a long time ago and I don't remember much.

>>
>>52861527

You're acting like I don't know how nonsensical and overtly-complicated it is. I am aware that it is mechanically retarded, and that's part of the fun.
>>
>>52860368
I have to say, I agree. The story of the redhead chick is pretty cringy but it really doesn't have much bearing on the setting or the system. At worst, it's a bit edgy.
>>
>>52861982
I have the RaHoWar PDF on my computer and I don't recall such a setting.... it may have been implied but not really explicitly described.

It's actually correct. I mean, the feminine form exist. Of course it should be belli maga or magae, but that's not really the problem here...

Also oddly enough the setting isn't THAT bad. I mean, it's shit, but ok, it's a some kind of ignorant amerifat teenager shit. Something you see constantly in RPGs, at least from the players' side.

It's the rules and how they're written.
>>

Don't forget how the first book is literally just Star Wars: A New Hope, but in a sword & sorcery setting instead of a sci-fi one.
>>
>>52862341

I'd argue it's much crueler than your typical rpg setting in terms of how PCs deal with hostiles.

Typically you'd either kill your enemies or try a more diplomatic approach. In Bellum Maga you turn them into cigars that can still think and feel pain and then slowly burn them alive while consuming their spirit energy.
>>
>>52859319
>>52861246
>FATAL
>MYFAROG
>"cringiest setting"

I don't think you have put any thought to the actual question at all, and instead are just parroting names of RPGs you heard were bad on Something Awful or some shit. Both FATAL and MYFAROG have the most generic settings imaginable, both of them are basically just medieval Europe with some demons and shit thrown in.

FATAL is bad for other reasons entirely and MYFAROG isn't even a bad game, it only gets a bad rap because it's made by a guy who murdered somebody.
>>
>>52862513
>I'd argue it's much crueler than your typical rpg setting in terms of how PCs deal with hostiles.

Why are RPGs designed by women always some sadistic psycho shit? With that creepy witch game for children where you turn people into animals and make them eat each other because they said something you don't like, it's two for two now.
>>
>>52862311

It's exceedingly uninspired and overcomplex in areas that don't need it. It's not even good complexity, it's just pointless fluffing. I agree with you that the setting isn't really that unusual, though, other than the fact that it's niggers instead of orcs.

Really, it wouldn't be worth any note, good or bad, if it wasn't for who wrote it and the unending meme threads about it.

Because you've just time-traveled from several years ago and aren't up to speed on the modern era, I'll give you a quick rundown:
Donald Trump, a real-estate magnate from New York, won the Republican ticket in 2016 and became POTUS using a unique new stategy: Appealing to rust-belt working-class whites alienated by sjws and the liberal establishment by "telling it like it is", promising policies that put american workers first, and using a bizarre blend of politics and insult comedy coupled with an online campaign of "meme warfare" to discredit opponents. His official campaign slogan is "Make American Great Again", which his supporters have shortened to the catchy word "MAGA". President Trump is highly unpopular for his lack of diplomatic grace, false promises, and strange business ties with Russia.

Way back, I had a DM with a homebrew setting that went as follows.

>Evil is the 'active' philisophical force. Good is only defined insofar as how much you're willing to sacrifice to oppose evil.
>Run into psychotic fallen angel
>Is running around, looking for Good with a capital G people, so he can murder them and flash convert them into more fallen angels
>Our party contains a paladin.
>Tries to TALK, no threats, no drawing of weapons, or casting of spells, just tries to diplo this guy down into not slaughtering convents and orphanages and whatnot
>DM rules that he falls for attempting to impede the forces of Good.

Really? I disagree. The Grammar and language is clearly better and more refined, but it feels like a lot of the visuals that were cut were really great, and overall the overpopulation, lack of food, and otherwise apocalyptic feel was a lot more poignant and interesting than "wiccans!!" Not to mention more believable. No one takes Wiccans seriously, except other wiccans.

"Horseshoe theory" depends largely on what you define as "extremes" versus the "reasonable middle ground".

It also depends on how many assumptions you're willing to make about an individual that you see as "extreme". Some people tend to assume that anyone who feels strongly about something or thinks outside the moderate box is also someone who has a long list of highly specific extremist opinions and is guilty of certain specific media-hyped misdeeds. Sometimes they're aware that it isn't literally true, but they feel that if someone comes close enough to almost fitting the stereotype then they "might as well be".

This mentality makes it easy for proud moderates to feel right about themselves and their positions. Unfortunately, it doesn't count for much in an actual logical debate. Because "almost" only counts in horseshoe theory.

How the fuck is Deus Ex /pol/ the game?

It lacks any of /pol/'s obsession with race, gender or different religions. Religion is a theme due to the potential of technology to remake humanity and the powers it possesses, as well as produce powerful AI, but nothing beyond that.

It lets the player decide from amongst a number of potential means of government, but certainly doesn't back the kind of candidates that /pol/ seems to love.

I'd definitely agree that it builds on a selection of dystopian literature to predict a lot of things we see in the world today or that might come to pass. If /pol/ was genuinely focused on discussing such issues it'd be a fascinating place to visit rather than an alt-right cesspool however.

It's MLP but they crammed a bunch of Fallout references in it and actually played The idea straight. The original material makes callbacks to Fallout 1 through 3 and does some mildly interesting things with the fusion.

They replace super mutants with Alicorns, which also share a pseudo hivemind. They're individuals but they transfer information between themselves all the time, so you have magical superweapons that you have to take by complete surprise or get creative with killing, because the next set always understands you a little better than the previous one.

Also something like half the people who survived the megaspells are gay.

On the negative side you have such genius writing as the fact that people constantly tossing grenades at the protagonist when she's not only telekinetic, but visibly and obviously a member of the entire half of the surface population who are telekinetic wHY DOES THIS SETTING EVEN HAVE GRENADES WHEN LIKE 33-50% OF PEOPLE CAN THROW THEM BACK WITH THEIR MINDS

>unique new strategy
Making working class white people think that black people are their enemy in order to prevent class solidarity in a kind of "divide and conquer" is far from new. When white indentured servants were let go they were given more to start with than black indentured servants, creating tension between them. Black slaves were taught to hate and fear Native Americans to reduce the likelihood of some unified revolt. The "divide and conquer" strategy of managing the proletariat is pretty fucking old.

First, protesting is an activity so it can't be "thoughtcrime." Read 1984 again. Second, the idea (and I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it; just that this is the idea) is that, by expressing support for Trump, who has brought legitimacy to white supremacist groups by retweeting them, putting members on his board, and generally courting them for support during the election, these supporters are adding legitimacy to people that actually do burn down mosques, murder Muslims and leftists, etc.

It's worth pointing out that the DHS released a report in 2009 where they called right-wing extremists and white nationalists the biggest threat to national security.

Keep in mind that 1972 was the year that The Sheep Look Up was published, and was still a year before Nixon created the EPA. At the time, it really did seem plausible to the common man that we were going to experience a full ecological collapse by 2000.

This was a time when "conservatives" didn't automatically reject concerns about the environment for being "hippie stuff".

Because Magical Horse weapons were designed for use against zebras, not other Magical Horses.

Of course that begs the question of why they're still being produced by the current populace, but then the raider virus does literally put holes in your brain...

Speaking of:
>It's a lot better than it has any right to be

Somehow that reminds me of the city where scrap and supplies magically show up in previously looted areas, which was a really interesting plot point considering there was an active, automated manufacturing plant still live in the center of the thing. I wonder if they ever went anywhere with that.

>>
>>52862572

>>
>>52870829
Pretty much. There are a number of Christians who see Jesus as an extension of God and his son simultaneously rather than a completely separate entity.

So coming from that belief, to say Jesus created the universe is really not a stretch as all because in this interpretation Jesus and God are one and the same.
>>
>>52870879
Wasn't this the cause of one of the great schisms in early christianity? Since if Jesus is actually just God, his suffering and self sacrifice loses its meaning.

I was on a nerdy speed date and there was one particular woman who was clearly outclassing all the others. Seriously, in a way that makes you think "What are you doing here?" Fortunately, speed dates rotate, so everyone gets to talk to everyone for three minutes.

So I get this girl in front of me and I got curious. I asked what she studied. "Religion Sciences." she replied. I got confused, "Isn't that an oxymoron? I mean, how do those two go together?" She replied with some vague anthropology explanation. Suspicion rises.

"What do you want to do with these studies?", I asked. "Dunno. I don't have any plans.", she replied, not asking anything back. Suspicion rises.

"Alright," I asked uncomfortably, "favorite book?" "Eragon." she said. I couldn't help but cringe. "I'm sorry, but aren't those considered to be pretty bad? I mean, I've read the first two and the second one was nothing but walking and talking for half that book!" "Yeah, but the second two are better. Really." She waved away.

I got the feeling I was being trolled. That would make sense, a gorgeous girl on a speed date for geeks and she didn't have ambitions, plans, or taste.

Later on I figured out she wasn't trolling, if she hadn't read the Eragon books, she wouldn't know that there were four books instead of three... My god.

What gets me is that that if you believe God created the world and made mankind it's steward, why would you be okay with shitting it up? Even if you believe the world's about to end, do you really think God is going to be okay with purposefully shitting it up and making life worse for the people/creatures that inhabit it? That on Judgment Day, He'll pardon people who destroy the earth because "It's okay, it was going to end anyway"?

Hell, if you wanted to go full Old Testament, God fucking calls for the death of those that defile the land.

>So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
>Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.

I almost feel like Evangelicals are puppets of the Republican party rather than the other way around, because I don't see how anyone can read the Creation account and think, "You know what? I'm okay with throwing waste in our rivers and lakes, screw God's other creatures!"

The problem of any politics (but especially American politics) is that it ends up that if you believe in one thing/ascribe to one thing on your side then you are browbeaten into accepting EVERYTHING on 'your side' less you get pushed out.

Oh so you're slightly right wing? Enjoy having to share a side with christian fundies, flat earther, big business types, jingoist gun nuts, anarcho capitalist and whatnot. Oh so you're left wing? Hope you like anarcho communist, antifa, muslim apologist, tumblrite and luddite who hate technology. Under this model, you have to accept EVERYTHING your side stand for or else you have no side.

It's a package deal. And it sucks, because it mean that traits, ideals and whatnot are split between two mutually-exclusive 'packs' which is why christians are forced down the side which has rather un-christian values at time if only because the other side is even more hostile to religion.

Speaking as a Christian who's gone from Republican to Democrat over the last decade, I feel like the Right pays a lot of lip service to Christianity but the Left actually has values closer to mine. Then again, I never particularly cared about gay marriage and accept evolution as a fact, so that might be the issue.
>>
>>52875083
>Left actually has values closer to mine
Ah, instead of charity you'd rather rob people at gunpoint, keep for yourself and then maybe threw something to the poor, got it.
>>
>>52875265
The fact that you consider feeding the poor and giving aid to the sick to be robbery is probably the best justification I can give for why I don't view the right as fitting with my values.

>>

I mean Jesus literally advocated paying taxes. The whole "Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's" thing.

To really nail the point in the head, he was basically advocating paying taxes to the powers that conquered Jerusalem, as a Jew.
>>
>>52875882
tax didn't go towards welfare, though.
All healthcare was paid by yourself when needed or crowdfunded.
>>
>>52875867
If you were a good person you wouldn't complain about having to help the poor.

>>52875926
And that didn't matter. Jesus's stance was "just let the king have the money, fuck, let him have it, money is not the important thing in life".
>>
>>52875926
Shame at that. If only there were someone who was going around healing people free of charge back then. Guy would have practically been considered the Messiah.
>>
>>52875867
You do need to force people to help others, though. If you didn't, we wouldn't have people starving or dying of easily treatable diseases. We'd give them what they needed.

Besides, you're also still thinking of it as something imposed on you. It's not. It's something we impose on ourselves as a condition of being part of society. Pay the rent or leave.

>>52875882
He also explicitly threatened people if they didn't feed the hungry, clothe the naked, invite in the stranger, aid the sick, and visit the imprisoned. With fire.
>>
>>52875480
>>what is charity

Something that doesn't work and will never work. Relying on charity rewards evil people (ones that don't want to contribute) and punishes the good (ones that do). It is an irrational system; taxation is the rational system.

"Let the private charity handle it" is just a rephrased version of "let somebody else handle it, I'm not giving a cent unless you put a gun to my head".

I mean at all. If you had, you might have picked up a few things. Try reading Romans 3 - one of the key points is that we have all fallen short of God. Salvation is not deserved, it is a gift from God. Following Christ's teachings can help us, but only Christ can save us.

You might also want to give Matthew 25 a read. You know, where Christ threatens us with the fire prepared for the Devil if we don't do good things as well as rewarding us if we do.

You're going to just make sure it all goes to those in need, rather than to the bureaucrats. Because you're a generous person who is going to use these savings to be more generous, not just pocket them and ignore the plight of the desperate. Right?

Also, another question - how much do you think is going to overhead? Really, how much? Do you think you'd spend less on overhead if you just gave the money to those in need directly? Do you know how to give money to those in need directly? Are you planning on just walking around saying "free money to the hungry and sick!"
