>The Imperial Guard is Mankind’s primary and most numerous defence. With soldiers, battle tanks and artillery beyond number, they are the sledgehammer force that, though slow to deploy, delivers a devastating payload when its cumbersome blows land. Soldiers of the Imperial Guard are men, not gene-enhanced superhumans. They fight not with the most finely crafted armaments in the galaxy, but with the weapons and armour that can be cheaply and easily mass-produced.
>They are the largest coherent fighting force in the galaxy, able to move massed regiments and armoured vehicles across the segmentums to join any fray. As many foes of the Imperium have learned, the courage and sacrifice shown by the numberless ranks of the Imperial Guard combined with the sheer hell-storm of firepower they unleash, can sweep any battleground of foes, leaving only smoking craters and wet stains.

Fuck templates.

Flamer templates add some strategy to positioning but blast templates exist solely to slow the game down and cause arguments
>>
>>52858933
You target a unit with an attack...
Then roll a d3 or d6. That's the number of hits it generates.
Roll to wound, roll saves; unless the attack generated mortal wounds, in which case if the targeted unit has a special rule (Like chaos warriors with shields) you use that to negate the mortal wounds, then you roll for that.

Next shooting.

>>
>>52858933
If that word salad you posted was meant to ask how Age of Sigmar can work out without using templates, the answer is, via measuring.

Like, instead of flamer templates there's rules like, pick a unit and make one attack for every model of the unit within range. Then you measure that sixteen models are in range and then you roll hit and wound sixteen times.

For blasts, it's usually done like so: Weapons have a damage characteristic, ranging from 1 all the way to 2D6. So on stonethrowers and shit you make one shot with D6 damage and the damage rolls over, so if the unit consists of 1-Wound-models and you roll 5 damage, then it kills 5 of those models. If you attacked a single 5-Wound-Hero, it takes off all 5 of his Wounds. Such unit killer-weapons usually have some sort of bonus (better to hit, better to wound, reroll damage) when shooting at units of a certain size.

It works a lot better than you'd think it does.

I mean, that's sensible in a lot of cases. Something like a Battle Cannon or a Vindicator will cause a big explosion that can kill a lot of dudes, but would also reasonably be expected to do a lot of damage if you focus that on one guy.

Similarly, something powerful like a Thunder Hammer or Lascannon would conceivably be very nice for just cleaving through squads of weaker guys, since it'll just blast straight through one and hit another.

Sure, and if that justifies Chaos winning, fine.

Again, my problem isn't with the outcome. It's with the road we took to get there. If the Necrons and Hive Mind had actually put some plans in motion and Chaos had defeated them via whatever means, cool. Instead the writers just decided those two factions can't actually do what half of their fluff said they could.

I remember that thread about "Life in the IG" where one anon ended up writing a whole story about a guardsman doing incredible thing, at some point being part of Freebooters crew, and coming in the way of Tau ships. He goes to ask the Ork Kaptin and it went something like this:

>'Do you have any furtive ships?
>Wat's dat?
>Ships that can't be detected!
>Oi, yea' roit', sneaky ones! Yeh sure, the purple ones in the hangar, they're roight sneaky!
>What does that them being purple has anything to do with them being sneaky?
>Ya ever seen a purple ork? No? Dere ya go.'
>*You suffer a minor stroke*

Bad time to start an army, right?

I'd love Emperor's Children and I love Slaanesh, an army of mad mutant manchildren wearing the the most psychotic and gaudy colours they can. Just look at this guy.
I imagine it would be hard to paint though, it's gotta be bad but in a good way, you know?
Too bright and contrasting on purpose without looking genuinely shit.

No point starting them now when everything is changing but how long until the next edition?

If you want to get a start before the next edition drops, troops would probably be a pretty safe way to go. GW's promised (whatever that's worth) that all existing models will get rules, and presumably basic infantry will still have a place in the game.

>>52860778
You would have to deploy the Baneblade up there at the start of a match, and I think it'd be stuck all game.
>>
>>52859433
I havent played much 7th but from the few games I have played my psychic trickery options are actually more limited due to the enemy always getting a chance to dispel and the random nature of spell selection.

That said they could stand to reduce the complexity of the psychic phase. 7th introduced weaker countermagic which i appreciate over the 3+ fuck you wolf talismans/psychic hoods, but also kept the additional complications from 6th. 5th had simple magic, you bought spells like wargear and rolled a leadership test to cast. Only bad aspect was that countermagic was either brutal (ie 3+ to shut down all magic) or nonexistent. I wonder what they'll change this edition. Having a dedicated psychic phase at least cleared up the nonsense that was having every spell tell you when and how you could cast it or stuff like activating forceweapons on enemy turns.
>>
>>52860693

>The Blackstone already got destroyed
Yeah they need to work out that design flaw where it breaks if you put your finger in the barrel.

New player here.

I started tyranids because I really love their design and lore, even though I knew they were shit compared to Tau or Eldar.

Does 8th ed and the rules overhaul mean tyranids could be viable or are they inherently flawed?

>>52861231
Won't know until it comes out.
>>
>>52860856
A roll off to cast your spells? That's terrible. You'd get half the spells you cast off at all. May as well just go full Tau since spellcasting would be completely unreliable unless every spell was brokenly OP.

That also doesn't allow for counterplay or interaction. Under the current system the enemy can allocate their dice to prioritize critical spells (like in WHFB) and in the previous one countermagic was entirely about the positioning of your countermagic unit. Roll off is worse in every way.
>>
>>52861174

Does that usually end up well, or does a single player get singled out by a team and gets their army annihilated in the first turn.

Do you guys do it on a bigger table or a standard 6x4

Of course we could always be gentlemen about it and not be dicks to each other, but what has your experience been so far?

>>
>>52861272
Oh, you're walkers don't count as vehicles guy.
>>
>>52861256
Okay so the guy explained it like shit

So you roll to cast a spell, requiring you to get over a minimum value.

IF your opponent has a Wizard AND he's within the set range for unbinding -usually 18", AND he beats your score AND that wizard hasn't attempted to unbind a spell this turn with that wizard, then the spell gets nullified.
>>
>>52861153
>Nope, all of them were lost when he blew them up and crashed them.

Abaddon didn't blow it up.

>Explain.

The original plan Abaddon had for Cadia in FoC was just to drive up and shoot it with his Blackstone. But he knew the Imperium had a shield on Cadia that could stop the blast so he sent Chaos Marines to disable the shield which they did.
Then he brought his Blackstone up and shot at Cadia but the shield was magically repaired by sudden Necron intervention.
So then they had to do another ground assault to disable the shield again. They once again succeeded in disabling the shield.
But then magically the Phalanx showed up at just the right time to destroy the blackstone before it could fire on Cadia.
The CHaos fleet manages to push the Phalanax away, but not before it sends down its reinforcements.
This is the point Abaddon decided to go down to Cadia himself but has his engineers begin weaponising the Blackstone debris.
Eventually he has the Blackstone remains slam into Cadia.
He is prepared to let the Imperial fleet go until his sorcerer tells him that he shouldn't otherwise Roboute Guilliman will give him trouble.
So he successfully manages to break up the Imperial convoy and runs his target down.
But magically the Ynnari show up and rescue the Imperials.

The Chaos Marines are actually pretty good at their jobs in FoC, they just get fucked by sudden TWEESTS.
>>
>>52861298
Seems decent.

Like most of the AoS rules it reminds me of a super-simplified WHFB.

>>
>>52861231
Yes, that's what it means. Tyranids big problem was having their models becoming overpriced while also losing a lot of options and upgrades over the years.

A complete overhaul means the possibility of getting more fair costing or more options is more likely.

Well, we usually do this with 1000 points per player, so it still fits on the standard table.

Usually it does end up fairly well, since not many people are bringing their biggest guns since it's just 1000 point lists joined together. That may depend somewhat on your group if people get blasted away.

Even in the cases where it does happen though, the other guy usually just ends up helping and giving more tactical advice to his team-mate, sharing in the work there as well.

good enough. some would consider the necrons good, as all they're doing is restoring their former empire. some would consider tyranids good, because all they are is a force of nature, an animal race more than a xeno, one with an inscrutable endgame, if they have one at all. it's subjective, to be honest.

further, the 3x3 charts are based on DnD morality which is absolute. Necrons cannot be good as they wage wars of annihilation against the defenseless and innocent with the aim of attaining galactic dominance.
Building an empire on the corpses of your enemy is inherently evil.

The Tyranids are directed by a hive mind capable of conscious thought. Although the aspect they take on in combat may be that of an unstoppable force of nature they are not good. That would be like making an argument that the Titans in Attack on Titan are good because they are a mysterious animalistic force of nature and act without true purpose. Hell, that makes Zombies in literally every movie ever 'good'.

I'm new to Warhammer and only have a superficial understanding of each race, but aren't orks theoretically the most powerful race due to their collective psychic ability? their own stupidity being the only thing keeping their power level in check?

>>
>>52861758
Eh every race can claim to be the most powerful to some degree (apart from Tau).

The collective psychic thing gets a bit overblown in fluff discussion. It's not THAT powerful.

No.
They'd be a much bigger threat if they all got together, but they're not the most powerful.
Orksfags will tell you different but they already lost in the War of the Beast.
>>
>>52861758
It's a bit of a catch 22. If Orks were really smart, they would realize how they have this subtle psychic field fueled off of belief that can make things go their way and have an easy time of crushing anything they wanted.

Conversely, having the knowledge that they can change things if they believe strong enough makes it harder for them to actually believe those things, since then they'd know that Red things aren't actually faster, they just think they are.

Orks aren't stupid. They're kunnin'. They just have different priorities from humanity and other sentient races that focus on state-building and such.

They don't understand their collective psychic potential power in much the same way that humanity doesn't understand that they're a nascent psychic race that could reach a new plane of power if it fostered psykers instead of condemned and sacrificed them.

vehicle
[vee-i-kuhl or, sometimes, vee-hi-]
noun
any means in or by which someone travels or something is carried or conveyed; a means of conveyance or transport:
a motor vehicle; space vehicles.

Clearly distinct from a Maulerfiend, which is literally a Daemon in a mechanical body. Saying Daemon Engines are vehicles is like saying human bodies are cars.

It's not supossition its logic.

>40k is permissive, so show me where the rulebook says Walkers are listed as vehicles for reference purposes only (and for no other purposes).
It doesnt have to the same way it doesnt have to tell you dice have to be picked up to throw them.

>>52862534
Walkers are not infantry so they dont have it. What are you playing at?

>>52862539
That's one massive leap of logic. I guess that's how being retarded works.
>>
>>52862632
not as big of a leap as the mental gymnastics you're currently pulling to convince everyone that the fact the rulebook says walkers are vehicles doesn't mean walkers are vehicles.

>maybe if i call him cheetahfag i wont have to refute him anymore
*yawn* that reaction pic is old as dust. But keep dodging the argument.

What're the odds that Blood Angels ever get their own fliers like Dark Angels or Space Wolves?

I love the idea of a melee astartes supported by a fleet of aircraft, but I don't want to be a traitor or a furry.

Well you only have 3 Choices.
Are walkers a type Infantry?
You said no
Are walkers a type of Monsterous Creature?
Nope.
Are walker a Type of Vehicle?
Well they are found in the Vehicles section of the rule book. Rulebook says they are a type of vehicle. They are listed in their sheets as Vehicle with Subtype Walker.

All evidence points to them being Vehicles. As again you have 3 choices you admit to them not being the other two, ergo they must be the third family of unit types Vehicle

Don't know where your basic illogic came from kiddo but those of us who went to school when answers could be wrong actually learned reading comprehension. A Special type of Vehicle is still a Vehicle.
