I watched this thing develop, may as well post my first build on here.

Allies: Doppleganger, Cyclops, Gremlin, Gyoubu Danuki

Boons: Magical Training Twice (Penis Tax for Power Thief), Normalization.

My wife's the Doppleganger, so I will get her power copying. Cyclops and Gremlin come together for ultimate crafting skills. Danuki rolls in to rope suckers into paying with their bodies to get the herself and the crafters husbands.

She can also gain monetary influences and spread our group's tech around to control the world like it was some cyberpunk dystopia. I'm just gonna use it to positive ends so everybody can pool their resources to beat the Chief God so we don't have to destroy males and humanity to save monsterkind. Coming out as a Hero-king afterwards if I reveal myself would be interesting.

I hope this continues to get updates in the future so I get the Deruella defeating experience!

Guys I need help with balance in a CYOA I'm making.

I have 3 shotguns to choose from and two of them is practically identical with one of them being objectively better.

The shotguns in question is the UTAS-15 and Spas-12. Both fire the same ammo (12 gauge) but while spas has 6 shots the utas has 15. The utas also has the added benefit of having two magazines which the user can select which one to use ammo from, with this you can fill one magazine with regular shotgun shells and the other with slugs so you can fight enemies that are close and far away.

The system I have in place categorizes weapons into 3 groups, large, medium and small (large guns costing 3 points, medium costing 2 and small costing 1 point). I thought about putting the utas as a large weapon but it's actually lighter than the spas so that wouldn't make sense.

What should I do?

Controlling the battlefield is the key to victory. So I double up on crystal production to rapidly turn the battlefield into a maze of crystal spires and spikes. While not immediately harmful assuming one avoids the spikes, the evergrowing crystals would hinder movement and allow me to pin someone down for the finishing throw. I also figure that, with the force of the Ball's shockwave, I should be able to 'shatter' my own crystals turning them into deadly projectiles.

Start of battles would probably be me throwing the ball at the ground in front of me and dragging it in an arc facing my enemy, to make an initial 'wall' and stop any charges. With Crystal's lesser weight, dragging it along the ground to make large crystal growths should be easy.

Perhaps with SOME weapons described as glaives, but you are making the serious mistake of thinking there was any sort of standardization with medieval weapon designs.

Many of these heads would be incapable or ineffective at stabbing, for example.

Correct. That route I would effectively replace "Collector" with either a specialist (with +phys def) or a second training. The Cursed Sword is still good for its other bonuses, obviously if I'm all about power the risk involved in that doesn't bother me.

I felt that in spite of having 1 lower stat, the Chimera had a better range of options. Baphomet felt more like a leadership role than a combat role. Plus Chimera is just thematically better with Power Theif. The one thing that does make me lean towards Baphomet a little more is the ability to take Living Armor as well as Cursed Weapon (replacing Cyclops)

Not really, no. Different curvature, generally a very different cross-section, etc. Grab a copy of Waldmann's "Hafted Weapons in Medieval and Renaissance Europe" if you want to look into the subject in some depth.

You can't make a war scythe out of a regular farming scythe, the blade is too thin and the handles are usually too crooked. The work involved in reshaping the socket on the blade wouldn't even be worth it, you're better off just making a new blade with a correctly positioned socket at that point.

I said it started that way, because the war scythe was invented by some shitty peasant and his local blacksmith because he needed to go to war but didn't have any weapons. It was originally an improvised weapon, so no shit it'd be suboptimal crap. It was only later that people started making war scythes as their own distinct weapon and not just a reshapen farming tool.

In medieval and Renaissance Europe? No. Again, there was no standardization, many glaive designs could not stab. Curved blades would often still be called glaives, or have a specific region term. See the illustration. And they're sure as fuck not spears regardless.

That isn't a glaive or a fauchard. It's a guan-dao or po-dao, or woldo (if korean). They're very short poles and don't fall under the heading of a normal pole arm. They're like 5-6' tall not counting a foot or 2 of blade, compared to something that has a haft over 6'. The're also used far more like a staff in fighting then any halberd type ever was.

Magical training X2 brings my magic attack and defense from rank E to rank C. This is the pre-requisite for power thief. With power thief I gain S rank magic attack and defense from my Lilim, and A rank physical attack and defense from my Will-o-Wisp. The Apophis transforms me into an incubus for an extended (immortal?) lifespan.

Cleanliness just makes me more attractive and turns me into a more efficient battery. The Lilim keeps the Apophis and Will-o-Wisp's predatory nature in check. Even with my S ranked stats, I am below the Lilim in the pecking order, but it's still worth it.

They found me in the woodland between Greenhost and Ambervein some time after our little village, hidden away for decades safely from Detritus by a retired battlemage, finally came to their attention. I took up the fallen mage's weapon, but hadn't learned to wield it properly yet. Still, hit a Detritus hard enough and it'll find someone else to eat at least. Seeing the darkened shards rain like sharpened hammers down on them and adamant boots striking the ground around them like vengeful thunder, I started to understand how hard they needed to be hit to defeat them.

I asked to join the Knights of Dust immediately. They said they'd only take someone who could survive participating in their methods. After weeks of fending for myself with a weapon I could barely use or else whatever came to hand I was confident, but was directed to study as a battlemage if I was so eager.

I want to master Force eventually; it's essential to being able to strike hard enough to take down Anything I come up against, but I'm keeping this weapon and I'm going to figure out how it works first. Being able to hit the same target twice or more in the same instant seems to suffice for now; the Knights still won't take me until I've got more mobility but I've got their attention after a few demonstrations, and they're giving me a chance to prove myself.

Vexchildren break much more easily than the stone guardians did. The guardians do break if you hit them enough though.

Yeah, that's what I was going for when I said there'd eventually be options to pick more fairies / weapon enchantments. This also gives more direction. You have something to use your weapon for & a lot of the more combat-oriented fairy powers have more use. My original plan was to put a couple CYOAs together into one, but still have the parts function stand-alone or with modular use.

Really well done! I'm not a fan of the Valhalla part, but everything else is a nice mix of options. I'd like to see it fleshed out even more.

I like to think I've been hitting my stride quite nicely. I've also been hitting the Detritus quite nicely too. The Cinderling Dungeon had a couple of near collapses after we were done with it, but we managed to hold back enough that it'll still have some use now that it's been cleared out.

Prawunes ambush alright, but they shake the ground too much to be That much of a surprise. More like a game of whack-a-mole for us. Muxscythes don't work so well with shattered leg exoskeletons either.

Trampled them into the Dust. I'm getting knighted when I get back or so help me I'll go find a guild to join to spite them when I...I don't know, kill a Det Kot or something.
