literally what they have always been treated as for the cardthrower classes. slash damage darts.

so its assumed before this point that the card magus just has randomly assorted decks from harrow, tarot, DoMT, Tarokka, or playing cards, which get used up like arrows. and in order for the class to even be usable you have to A. not be below level 5, and B. have 50 individual cards, each enhanced as weapons for an unknown cost.
does this deck just replenish cards taken from it or have the returning weapon ability (you know, the one that the current card caster archetypes have)

you can do this under standard rules without being any particular class, and the only class that would probably consider doing this is a bard as part of a performance.

Sure, there's the occasional gem (Inquisitor, Alchemist, WMH, PsyAnth), but the fact is, most books are 90% letdowns. With what they've advertised for Starfinder insofar, it seems like it's going to be a fuckup, particularly considering how they forced their politics into the first advertisement for it.
Best case scenario, we'll end up grabbing a couple classes and adapting them to use in normal pathfinder, plus some feats and maybe a magical item or two. Don't expect any more.

Insistence on weird design decisions like using Alchemy to throw multiple Fireball-but-better a round, making Scholar extremely limited in comparison to casters, introducing full attacks in disguise when the design goal was to move away from them... Some Spheres are also just not very exciting (Equipment, Barroom, Dueling). Martial focus was supposed to be important resource but there is at least one talent allowing to regain it with swift action if you hit something while unarmed.

I am not too good at design and mechanics but I think I prefer PoW at its core more than SoM. SoM looks like it encourages you to specialize on one trick while PoW has "cooldowns" meaning you have to mix and match... at least in theory.

POW basically has two main problems with regards to damage; first, boosts allow for fullattackers to do more damage, so they invalidate other damage focused builds.
Secondly, some maneuvers produce some iterative attacks or high damage abilities based on skills which are easy to boost to high optimisation.

That's one problem. Now internally, this isn't a big problem if everyone uses Pow stuff, as counters will significantly lower damage outputs.

However, counters also make initiators much tougher, by basically allowing them to nullify one attack every turn. To take down an initiator you have to focus fire them. But anyone who's focus fired without counters will go down even faster.

This means normal martials are outpace both for damage and for defense, which means PoW stuff is unbalanced in mixed groups. In all PoW groups it's fine, though.
