I am starting Seraphon and I do want skinks.

How good is the start collecting box? I know it is a great value but is it actually good? The command abilities for carnisaur seem meh, the saurus knights are meh, do I want saurus warriors or saurus guards?

If I bought the start collecting where should I go from there? A box of skinks and a bastadon? Do I need a Slaan? Engine of the gods any good if I am playing with points?

But we don't really know.

Slaanesh's dudes are still around, at least.
>>
>>52528456
Chameleons seem great. I would probably convert them from regular skinks though.

But how are the units that come from the box? The saurus knights seem lack luster and I think a carnasuar may not be the best.
>>
>>52528518
We don't know, and Slaanesh's daemons/mortal servants don't either.

Slaanesh's disappearance literally caused a Slaaneshi civil war to spring up, with several greater daemons clamoring to attain godhood and mortal champions seeking to outdo each other in depravity and sacrifice.
>>
>>52528465
Why?
>>
>>52528640
So they have mentioned he existed at one point, but disappeared, and still has followers?

Just trying to get the lore straight, because I thought AoS was a complete blank slate reboot of WHFB, and I was under the impression they just completely ignored slaanesh from day 1.
>>
>>52528664
One of the strongest armies, actual army in terms of units variety, basically protag of the setting
>>
>>52528667
Nah, man. Teclis, Tyrion and Malarion (Malekith, new name), now gods, got together and kidnapped Slaanesh when it was full of Aelf souls.

Emptied out the souls and brought back as many of them as they could, and then locked Slaanesh somewhere that no one knows and can't find.

We have no idea what the fuck's going on back there beyond that. No attention to it yet.

The fact that slaanesh gets mentioned surprisingly often in the little AoS lore we have fills my hopes, you also see alot of Aos artworks with slaaneshi Daemons as well as slaanesh armies in the little pictures in stuff like the GHB. If they were to retcon best god they wouldve just stopped mentioning them completely.

My Theory is that Slaanesh was only put to sides during early Aos worldbuilding because GW was on the brim of bankruptcy before AoS and to avoid controversies (as AoS aestethically is aimed more at children than WHFB was with sigmarines and shit). This is also why there is such a massive fucking Khorne wank going on because Khorne has been turned into a Shallow Hur-dur Kill Maim Burn StupidEvil. And Blood and Gore in media is socially acceptable whilst implied sexual themes arent.

However now that GW is in a much better financial spot we might see some love for Slaanesh soon. Just keep whining like the SoB people and maybe we'll get a plastic KoS or a new Sigvald (or a replacement for latter)
in like 5 years
it is worded to be read that any model within range of any netter grot gets this debuff. all the time anywhere. two or more grots nearby only satisfies the condition of being near a grot with a net

who knows if that was inteneded but that is how it is written
>>
>>52529036
Sorry, but it's true. The reason to run multiple nets is just to expand the penalty zone to be able to net an entire enemy unit.

Eh, on second thought, I'd want to push out more of those Grots to 40-man units for the buff.

Leadership remains the same, but make it 5 units of 40, each with 4 Fanatics lurking inside. Your Grots aren't as flexible due to the lumps, but you actually gained 20 of the bastards in exchange for some Fanatics. 223 grots on the table.

The Moon Man Moon Klan is numerous. The Moon shall rise again!

Hi /tg/ I'm looking to get into Sigmar and have a question about army comp. No, not "which army should I pick" or "create a list for me", my question is about unit cohesion.

Say I have a box of Liberators, is it better to build them all with the same weapon, or am I completely gimping myself by mixing it up (2 of this 2 of that and a prime of something). Everyone wants to build their own special snowflake radical dude army, and I just would like to gage general opinion on unit cohesion and variety in units. Is a group of 5 dudes with 5 different weapons viable or will I be complete trash. I don't care much for a full on munchkin meta army (obviously) but I don't want a 100% chance to lose just because I wanted to mix it up either. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

tl:dr - What's the line I can walk on unit variety without crippling myself, or should I concede to 1 weapon groupings?
>>
>>52528531
Nurgle Rotbringers
Tamurkhan's Horde avoiding the actual horde
Slaves to Darkness cavalry
Khorne Bloodbound juggernauts (also works with above cavalry added in)
Clan Skyre with mostly Stormfiends

Are Seraphon + SCE decent in an army? I wanted to do 1k of both
>>
>>52530021
Yep. Though probably not as good as a pure army of either.
>>
>>52530021
>Are Seraphon + SCE decent in an army?
Nope
>>
>>52529985
Most units to have outfit themselves with the same weapon. It's rare for one to be able to mix them, and off the top of my head I can only think of 3. I wouldn't say you would cripple yourself by mixing, but personally I think it's best for a unit to be dedicated to one purpose, and mixing kind of goes against that. Although it's worth noting that the units that allow you to mix don't come with enough of each weapon for you to kit the whole unit out the same way, so you don't really have a choice unless you buy a few boxes.
>>
>>52530130
Thanks! So an example would be:

-buy 2 boxes and use them as 2 weapon groupings

-buy 2 boxes and have enough of the weapons worth mixing to create 1 mixed unit and 1 weapon grouped unit

Something like this, aye? I'm thinking of going with Celestial Warbringers as my crew.
>>
>>52530021
AoS is all about Buff Synergy, so taking allies only is viable when youre using them to fill a niche you really need filled.

SCE are pretty Mary-Sue in which they have like 30 Units (which is only 4 less than the ENTIRE range of Death-Units) The only thing they do not have is a Tarpit Horde Element which you could use Empire Flagelants for.

Both Seraphon and SCE are good Armies on their Own but if you mix you lose a lot of potential synergy which will water it down

>Lies, on both counts
>like 30 Units (which is only 4 less than the ENTIRE range of Death-Units)

>>
>>52530542
Each unit gets access to a special weapon which can be given to anyone in the squad. Most people give that weapon to the prime because they either get an extra attack, or bonus to hit. Though for some, like paladins, you wouldn't want the special weapon on the prime since his bonus's wouldn't apply to it.

yeah magnetize is an option, the kit is quite friendly with this option imo. But the real problem is you dont have enough warpfire projector to give at least one by Stormfiend. There is :
- 2 Warpfire projector
- 2 Mortar
- 3 ratling (one is smaller)

& for melee its the same thing :
- 2 Grinder fists
- 2 Shock fists
- 3 drills

Yes, humans who lived in inhuman conditions or risked death and torture for their beliefs. None of this exists in Azyrheim.
>>
>>52533220
A lot of the humans in Azyr are the descendants of refuges who came to Azyr to escape the onslaught of Chaos. A lot of them with to reclaim their homelands and exact revenge on those that took and defiled them.

Then there is a fact that Azyr won't be safe for long if the forces of Chaos were allowed to do as they please.

Then there is the fact that greed can factor into this. New opportunities for acquire lands and wealth in the recolonisation of the realms.

What are you saying is the same as asking why would the JEWS leave the saftey of Europe and America to head back to the Middle East where everyone hates them
>>
>>52531650
>>52533220
One of the few good things I took away from City of Secrets is that there seems to be some religiously motivated manifest destiny amongst the mortal followers of Sigmar to spread their god-king's rule across all the realms. Might have something to do with it.

Another thing CoS implies is that there's a highly stratified class system at work in Azyrheim. Maybe the Azyrheimers who leave are the ones who genuinely think there are better opportuntiies elsewhere.

People aren't rational actors. Just because there aren't any Azyrheim 2.0 settlements yet doesn't mean that people will stop re-settling in the hope of spreading society.

And yet pilgrims went to America, even though it was a barbaric frontier. We don't need a reasonable explanation for this in a Heroic High Fantasy universe.

Pilgrims were a religious minority.

>>52533809
10/10 great argument.
>>
>>52533821
>pilgrims went to America
economic conditions were abysmal in Europe for the working classes. The government had draconian oppressive laws. If you could scrape together enough cheddar to pay for a boat trip (and survive 2 or 3 months at sea) then you could claim a huge piece of high quality land that would make you, or at least your descendants, rich (assuming you survived).

But the Pilgrims probably were not poor. They were wealthy-ish and were trying to get out from under the governments rules about practicing their particular flavor of Christianity.

this is AOS related because... their are people leaving sigmars space station to colonize the mortal realms that may or may not be doing it for reasons that could be considered similar.
>>
>>52533921
Not everyone who moved to the US to settle it was a pilgrim. Plenty of US settlers were motivated by the idea of establishing trading posts or getting access to unspoiled natural resources.

Alternatively, religious fervor for Sigmar is a thing. RETAKE OUR CELESTIAL LORD'S HOLDINGS IN THE NAME OF THE HAMMER is as good a reason to settle as any.
>>

A citation of mortals being religious and following stormcast out of azyr?

"
As Sigmar's Tempest rolls across the Mortal Realms it is the Devoted who follow closest in its shadow. Throngs of Flagellants bless the ground with bloody feet and chanted prayer."

The entire "Devoted of sigmar" faction are made up of mortals crusading in the name of sigmar.
>>
>>52534061
Hammerhal isn't all a shithole actually. The main focus in Shadows Over Hammerhal is on Cinderfall, which is stated to be a run-down, economically depressed part of Hammerhal Aqshy. Hammerhal itself is a city that covers an area the size of a continent and spans two realms - Hammerhal Ghyran is mentioned to have huge beautiful gardens, for example.
>>
>>52534113
No, the SC drones are effects of Nagash stealing bits of their soul each time they die, and no stormcast survives being recast more than three times.

Sigmar is pissed as fuck about Nagash's theft but he doesn't have the means to make him stop yet. The whole point of the Lord Relictors in fluff is to try and mitigate Nagash's ability to pilfer souls.
>>
>>52534092
>Well like, we did heavily colonize Africa,
But not because of "muh ancestral land ".
>"shitcan peasants farming and dying of cholera" type until well into the 18th century.
So just as Europe small towns and villages and Hammerhal are largest city outside Azyrheim (it's actually larger than modern megapolises), such settlements are always becoming centres of science and infrastructure.
>>
>>52534125
>A citation of mortals being religious and following stormcast out of azyr?
Nope about religious colonization
>>
>>52534154
>Sigmar is pissed as fuck
maybe he should have thought about that before he made an army of Necron warriors out of the mortal realms best heroes.

who could have possibly predicted that Nagash might try to mess with that plan?
>>
>>52534171
Africa pisses me off because of how it's just going to waste thanks to retarded African governments. By resources alone, Africa should be the most prosperous and wealthy part of the planet but instead it's an aids infested shithole filled with people that learned nothing from the Europeans that gave them technology.
>>
>>52534192
"Religious colonization" was a hypothetical reason why someone might want to to leave Azyr. We already know there are vast armies of religiously motivated mortas crusading around the mortal realms, so I don't think its a stretch that they'd form cities.

City of Secrets, as I recall, had the city being used as a staging area for Freeguild and Stormcast forces in the area, including a detachment of Devoted of Sigmar.
>>
>>52534192
Stop shitposting Ivan. You are worse than all the Death circlejerkers.
>>
>>52534220
like the undeveloped backwaters of the mortal realms in AOS. The point of destabilizing the African continent is to make sure its resources go undeveloped until such time as the West (Sigmar) decides to swoop in and "save" the Africans from their bad leaders so we can take all their stuff.

no point in letting Africa develop... itll just waste everything so no one else gets to use it.
>>
>>52534218
Hence why Sigmar is actively trying to mitigate or downplay Nagash's ability to steal souls.

Just because you can expect Assholetep to be an asshole doesn't mean you can't also be pissed at him for being an asshole.
>>
>>52534171

>We already know there are vast armies of religiously motivated mortas crusading around the mortal realms, so I don't think its a stretch that they'd form cities.

>>52534286

>>
>>52534342
Right, but this is a high fantasy setting were people trade in magical materials that can only be found in other mortal realms.

City of secrets, for example, has the city trading in bottled magic prophesies that they harvest from a magic crystal soire the city is built around.

Its not unlikely for, example, residents of fire to trade in magical flames or rare ores, or for residents of life to sell all kinds of magical herba and plants.
>>
I want /pol/ to leave, why the fuck drag in modern and historical immigration and integration into a fcking heroic fantasy game about murdering dragons and glorious conquest.
>>
>>52534355
Okay, so why would none of that apply to mortals in Azyr? There are wandering tribes of human savages to rape and plunder and olenty of land to exploit.

City of Secrets even has like, fantasy racism with natural born Azyrites looking down on humans from other mortal realms and seeing them as inherently chaos-touched and inferior.
>>
>>52534349
>Vast armies of religiously motivated zealots =/= learned city planners and scientists
Yeah but since they didn't lost connection with Azyrheim (like Long Night in 40k) why such large city didn't attract scientists from and other professionals etc who would build a modern infratructure.

We're looking at fixed points in a setting that takes place on the order of millennia. Just because a town is a shitcan hovel city at this point doesn't mean that it can't improve in time.

>Wut?
In age of sigmar, a lot of the settlements in the mortal realms trade things that you can't get outside of that specific area, like magic bottled prophesies or magic plants from the realm of life.

The BEST way to start any army that doesn't have a start collecting box is to make a Hinterlands Warband (rules are free, look up hinterlands AoS). Basically you do the points per model, and heros are worth 50% of their points, and you get 150 points to your army. Also you cant have more than 15 dudes.

This gets you started, its fun as fuck, and if you don't like the game or your army you only have 10-15 guys so you can change it up. If you like it, you can then expand into a proper AoS army.

Anyway get a box of Glade Guard what ever hero you like the look of. That's it. Minimal investment, lots of models, and you'll have fun.

You're being almost as bad as the warp/warp storm autist from yesterday. Nothing I know of explicitly says crusade people are making cities, but if you take a moment to step back and think, it's not unlikely. Plus, the Free People really sadly haven't been touched on yet. Once they get a BT, I'm sure we'll see all kinds of examples of colonization. Feels like it's been out a while, but this setting is still pretty new. If you think "space = sci fi" and theres no way for a barbarian to exist in a sci fi setting then you're grossly misinformed about what science fiction is.

You can have sci fi stories take place in prehistoric times and fantasy stories in the far future. "Science fiction" refers to the subject matter, not the setting.

Yep, they stack. Its one of the few rare instances of it working that way. Plus with the new totems you can get even more mileage out of your Bloodsecrators.
>>
How was aquilonia not civilized? One of the deiving points of the early books was that it was too safe and boringly civilized to be truly fulfilling for conan.

>Also yep. Sigmar established an Empire before, and it was not an egalitarian utopia. Why would Azyrheim be any different?

Because he was a human back then, not a god, and a human from a barely-iron age culture? It's well established Sigmar helped build civilization across the Realms, and some of them got pretty advanced.
