Interestingly enough, Ssalarn recently implemented a limitation to the commander's secret ways at 7th-level:

This is still rather narrative-warping, because:

1. There is nothing stopping the commander from continuously retrying (while sitting down in a backwater hamlet's watering hole and chatting up peasants) and generating portal after portal. After all, even a DC 15 check retcons a portal into existence.

2. It implies that there are always temporary portals leading from anywhere, leading to anywhere.

3. It can take someone straight into the heart of an otherwise well-guarded building.

4. If these portals are so ubiquitous, then why are they not a major facet of the setting? Why are only 7th-level commanders able to discover the details of these universe-bridging, if not multiverse-bridging, gateways?

One of my college buddy's custom not!Eberron campaign that had a massive savage land where dinosaurs roamed called... The Savage Lands. We did some things there for a Kobold tribe and they gave each of us a tamed raptor as a mount as a reward. But we only got to use them once... When leaving the Savage Lands. Our captain was an Andoran merchant who got screwed over by the Chelish government. Turned to worshiping Calistria, pooled her money, bought a ship, took on some crew members and took her revenge on the Chelish through piracy. She's a higher level than the rest of us so the GM finds ways to separate her, or just turns her into a healbot. The rest of the crew is varied. That's not it at all. However some of us are still waiting on more finalized versions; it's hard to allow a class when it could literally change in between sessions more than once.

Some of the shapes needed help from the start, and some still do. The really powerful parts were limited to the weapon-loaded ones, and the nerfing round came about to nip those then and there. However that did leave the rest of the shapes gasping for air, as it wasn't all-powerful and couldn't even HOPE to become powerful (barely viable as a secondary damage dealer) without the weapon-loaded shapes unless optimizing to 2hu levels, where even then it wasn't all that insane compared to other 3pp materials.

Conceptually however, the Avowed is top-shelf goods. But it's only natural that playtest stuff would get changed and isn't necessarily all ready yet.

Let me explain a bit, when I played D&D when I was 12 I wanted to make magitech armor. Instead of telling me no, the 16 year old DM then proceeded to make my life hell in-game. He created a wizard GMPC with all 18s and access to all weapons (he told me if I even touched a weapon that wasn't a dagger all of the gods would immediately know and they would unite to destroy me) and 5 levels on me, lectured me about how my wizard sucked in front of the group. In a later adventure I was shoved into a boxing match with antimagic shackles on me and had everyone in the party beat me up, then kept telling me I wasn't allowed to just stay down the first time I got knocked out.

Granted, I was a little shit because I was 12 and 12 year olds are little shits. On the plus side all of those little shits got high-paying jobs and a free ride into college, while on the other hand I got a useless trade degree and a shit dead-end tech support job where I'm constantly shit on by upper management.

That aside, there are limitations to what can be done. The events aren't all that hard to find, getting clothes is more of a grind, as is building her lust and sensitivity for the denial events. Eventually more stuff will get added, but that does take a while before updating.

In combat? Yes. Yes, killing enemies via direct hit point damage actually is the best way to end a fight in Pathfinder, at least if you belong to a tier 3 or below class.

My main issue with Spheres of Might is that the optimal builds for most class permutations devolve into "kill everything hard by spamming massive damage and doing nothing else interesting," whether it is with Alchemy bombing, Berserking's Brutal Strike or Decapitate, or a double hackbut as a technician's improved firearm.

In my IRL I'm GMing for Dragons are world ending events that occur once every thousand years or so, destroying the known world, to allow the Wolf Goddess Desa to regurgitate a fresh new incarnation of the world, and then the Life God Heacliff repopulates the new world with all forms and manner of life, using the souls and blood of the dragons to do so.

The PCs are thus tasked to find and kill the dragons before they awaken to stop the end of the current age. but they don't know they were hired by the real villians of the campaign so they can maintain their power base for an eternity. So I talked about one of my favorite villains last time, a Raging Cannibal Urban Barbarian 10/Brute Vigilante 2 VMC Ravenous Oracle, in my notes I called him "Big Eater". I for a while would name my villains in this way or in the Jojo style after songs.

Another one of my favorite villains I have employed was a druid who was at one point Rocktopus in my notes and at one point 『 UNDER PRESSURE』.

In this case he was a level 13 build with Druid 9/Strangler Brawler 4. I had a great time with him as he was based around extremely dangerous ambushes via the following tactics:

The idea is a grapple and pin rending an enemy unconscious. This after having turned the area around the party to mud. The druid would then drag the enemy into the mud and turn it back into stone, encasing the individual in it.

Spheres of Might does, in fact, have many options along these lines. It is just that they are overshadowed by the "deal massive damage" options, even if those options are as crude and simplistic as Berserking's Brutal Strike and Decapitate.

In my game, 7 ancient wyrms exist. One of them gave magic to the mortals to wage war on the others. Since then, they've all gone into hiding, but their offspring are out in the world.

The party nearly died to one of the sons of the black wyrm. They learned from a silver dragon that the spawn of the black wyrm are trying to bring him back (he's the one that gave magic to the mortals to try and use them as an army against the other 6).

Two party members also owe a debt to the ancient copper wyrm, who assists them occasionally.

The endgame will be all 7 wyrms returning to the world if the party can't stop the sons of the black wyrm from releasing him.

One of my concepts on how enemies with PC level should work is to attempt to force players into a gimmick they aren't designed to deal with. Characters should find their niche of how they are best able to tackle a situation and go for it.

It's about rhythm and being caught in your enemy's rhythm. Being forced into a position where your enemy is being catered to rather than you. It's the same way I treat PvP when I do it with my friends. It's all about trying to force enemies into a fight that specifically caters to your abilities and seeing who has a more all consuming gimmick or who can deny the other their gimmick.

Also PCs generally can't be built like this for normal adventures because they don't have the luxury of picking and choose the situations where they engage. PCs generally have a much more diverse set of circumstances they have to inhabit in order to function and can't have specific gimmicks unless the campaign is a PvP one about said gimmicks.
