Pathfinder General /pfg/

How can we save Ssalarn's scholar class from Spheres of Might? It still sucks.

Fighters should be nerfed. They fight too well.
>>
>>52407367
Naw bro, not before they nerf rogues, monks, and vow of poverty.
>>
>>52407381
Vow of Poverty is the most overpowered option in pathfinder. It does at least one damage on the regular, which is completely unacceptable. How do we fix it so that it is more in line with a balanced option, such as Wizard?
>>
>>52407144

Oh hey, speaking of Kingmaker, let me give you guys a tiny bit of advice for ethnic groups!

Brevoy is divided into two primary cultures, Issian and Rostlander. There is a generous smattering of Kellid in there - so much so that Hallit is a common language, but in practice you're faced with the Swordlords and Pirates.

Issia was primarily settled by the Ulfen, and being the seat of Rogarvian power they have ample admiration of dragons and draconic habits. Blonde hair is common here, as is blue eyes and redheads (due to the aforementioned Kellids.) Issians are tough and willful, having an ancestry of piracy that stretches back centuries.

Rostlanders, on the other hand, are of more imperial stock. Rostland was the nation furthest north conquered by Taldor, and as such has significant Taldan heritage - they lack the tanned skin of their southern brethren (due to mixing with the Issians and Kellid) but brown hair and brown eyes are especially common. The sense of national pride is also paramount to a Rostlander, being a people who were born by an empire and forged a glorious history through the legendary Swordlords. They are also famously willful and traditional, being sorts that pay heed to rustic wisdom or folklore as much as their own honest opinions on a matter. Indeed, I'd go so far as to say Rostlanders are the closest you'll get to the stereotypical Dwarf writ large.

When I get up I'll totally add more to this, if anyone has any questions!
>>
>>52407400
Well anon, I'm glad you asked, we should make it so that anyone with Vow of Poverty suffers a penalty of -1 to each ability score per total monetary value of items held in copper.
>>
>>52407436
Ah, I see. And if the player ever enters a party that has money, they should also receive penalties. It is the only way to make that more fair.

What's a decent excuse for someone to be wielding a nodachi outside of some small tien enclave in Avistan?

So far the only thing I've got is "My granddad won it in a game from/stole it from/took it off the body of a tien man in Kalsgard".

Failing that, what could a nodachi be refluffed as to wash off the weeb taint?
>>
How's the psionic classes in pathfinder? Are they worth playing/having around in a strictly 1pp group?
>>
>>52407654
"An exotic sword from exotic lands that a noble family collected"
"A gift to a merchant / traveller who visited those lands"
"Spoils of war from a scuffle with ronin raiders"
etc
>>
>>52404144
Sweet, thanks!
>>
>>52407654
>Nodachi
THIS MAKES ME AUTISTIC ANGRY GRRRRR.
>>
Elven curved sword is basically katana anyway
>>
>>52407654
Refluff the Nodachi into some sort of Western-looking curved great-blade. Now it's not Japanese, and thus automatically better.
>>
>>52407654
It's a miaodao. Granted this is just the chinese version but it's less curved and less likely to set off weeb alerts.

Alternatively it's just a bastard sword, who cares.
>>
>>52407707
People will call it weeaboo anyway if it's East Asian.
>>
>>52407654
Just call it a Claymore; long, spear-like sword from an exotic land, often considered weaker than "normal" swords but still cool-looking.
>>
>>52407654
Why bother fluffing it? You don't need to fluff every single other piece of equipment you have, or do you?

So I found my character art for my Blingmaker character. He's a Prophet of Kalistrade.
>>
>>52407707
>>52407732
Anyone who automatically blows his top because it's 'weeb' needs to fucking kill themselves just as much as people who throw fits because something isn't Japanese.
If it's for a reason like "there is no way you'd have a fucking samurai set as a guy in Stamford Bridge England" or "no that doesn't make sense, your chivalrous knight can't be using a katana" that's fine, it makes perfect sense, but if he can get around it by saying lel Miaodao or lel kopesh when that doesn't make sense either (if it doesn't), then the DM and the players need to off themselves.

>>52407757
He's afraid of being called a weeb by his friends.
>>
>>52407757
>>52407817
Because it feels like I'm already stretching my luck to say "a Brevic bastard has a nodachi because X reasons", and I want it to be believable.
>>
>>52407435
DHB's UC fighter literally does it. They're just called Equipment Trainings instead of feats.
>>
>>52407839
Is this for Blingmaker, by any chance?

If so, just refluff or keep it as a normal heirloom nodachi. Most GMs here won't really care much.
>>
>>52407839
Just downgrade to the falchion and accept the losses, you're still wielding a great weapon without having to stretch yourself over it in a game where I'm sure half of the men will be running around with fucking dueling swords.

If you really insist on a nodachi, maybe try a messer. I mean it's not a great parallel but 18-20 range general refers to curve swords and it covers the stat block decently enough. IF YOU HAAAAAVE TO KEEP THE NODACHI FLAVOUR, then just go over the top and play a weeb in a land where all the other boys want to be Aldori Swordlords. Leverage your sheet for characterization.
>>
>>52407839
Alright then. There was a retired mercenary in your hometown, who boasts about travelling the world, and your character, who wants to adventure, has always listened to his stories, which made the merc like you.
When you were ready to start adventuring, he gifted you one of his spare weapons, a nodachi, as a gift.

Lazy stitch. A lot of the archetypes in this book deal in sniping certain enemy types, some come in the form of being pretty decent at it at the cost of suffering the plight of Rangers everywhere, others are just worse than their best classes. You can decide where this one falls.

>Counterstrike (Ex)

>At 16th level, whenever an enemy within reach of the magus successfully casts a spell defensively, that enemy provokes an attack of opportunity from the magus after the spell is complete. This attack of opportunity cannot disrupt the spell.

Why have I never seen or heard anyone mention this ability ever? Is it just because it's inconsequential, or because you only get it at level 16?
>>
>>52408174
Neat, can you post the page that has the "Harvest Parts" feat on it?
>>
>>52408467
A bit of both. You not only need to be threatening them but it doesn't do anything until after the spell is casts. It's a really weak ability for level 16. It'd be ok if it let you attempt to counter spell.

Do you guys think traits from something like a planetouched bloodline might be able to "rub off" through certain methods? Like blood transfusions, regular contact via certain spells that establish some kind of link, or even something else?

I'm wondering if the long-term effects of, say, being married to a fey or some manner of outsider might bestow a longer lifespan or other mostly-cosmetic traits upon their lover/spouse.
>>
>>52409016
It might do.

Given that people can get Sorcerer 'bloodlines' from things post-birth, sure why not?

If a guy can get the Undead bloodline from being born dead and then resuscitated, a guy married to a dragon can passively pick up dragon juju.

Cashmere's eyes began to water as the Troll's putrid breath roiled around her head, stifling her sense of smell with the rancid scent of rotting flesh. She felt its hot, sticky saliva patter against her immaculate breasts, and she squirmed and struggled as the creature clutched at her legs with its thick hands, spreading them apart as its engorged member poked out from beneath the brute's loincloth.

Cashmere cried out in pain as the Troll plunged its gnarled cock deep inside her, its slick, mossy thighs slapping against her milky white skin to the rhythm of its primal heartbeat. Tears poured down her cheeks as her breath quickened, gasping in agony with each pounding blow inside her. No longer did she struggle; instead her fingers gripped and clawed at the soil beneath her, finding no purchase there, but instead scrabbling and scratching in vain.

Her muscles tightened and her stomach churned as the beast continued its foul rutting, her thighs now stained with grime from the creature's own vile skin. Cashmere no longer cried out, and her legs had gone limp in the creature's hands. She wept quietly to herself, taking rattling breaths as the beast pumped away at her fountain, its overwhelming girth tearing into her nubile body.

The Troll's grunting grew noisier, and the gouts of hot breath against Cashmere's chest and face grew more frequent. With a palpable quiver, the creature's cock erupted with hot seed, and such was its volume that Cashmere could feel it squelching and slipping out around the beast's member, to drip down to her pale buttocks. Cashmere's body shuddered, and she weakly attempted to call for help, as the creature finished the deed. The Troll withdrew, momentarily spent, and released its grip on her legs, leaving bruises where it had squeezed her thighs in the throes of its bestial passions. It picked up the girl, and flung her over one shoulder before trudging off into the wood, her screams ringing through the night.

How would /pfg/ convert the 5e paladin archetype here into an effective Pathfinder paladin archetype?

Salient points:

>Armor of Peace
>Starting at 3rd level, your commitment to peace allows you to walk into the most dangerous situations unarmored. While you aren’t wearing armor or wielding a shield, your base AC is 16 + your Dexterity modifier.

>Warrior of Reconciliation
>At 3rd level, you foreswear the weapons of war in favor of simple tools. While wielding a simple weapon that deals bludgeoning damage, you gain a special benefit if you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with that weapon and decide to spare the creature’s life. Instead of falling unconscious, the creature is charmed by you for 1 minute. During that time, the charmed creature is peaceful and docile, refusing to move or to take actions or reactions, unless you command it to. You can’t order the creature to attack, force someone to make a saving throw, or cause damage to itself or others. This charmed effect ends early if you are incapacitated or if you or your companions attack the creature, deal damage to it, or force it to make a saving throw. When the effect ends, the creature falls unconscious if it still has 0 hit points.

In 5e, the optimal weapon for this archetype is the quarterstaff, because it is the best simple bludgeoning weapon. Therefore, this type of paladin is encouraged to stroll around unarmored and bludgeon foes with a pimp cane.

How would this work in Pathfinder?
>>

Being smart won't keep you from getting raped, Anon.

If you're just convincing them that the reward is worth the effort: diplomacy.
>>
>>52410005

The writer of it here.

Yeah, this is why I needed a foreword. Pathfinder has serious issues with it's ability to represent 'I'm a ungodly charming person' without it going straight to mind control. Some games (LOTW, Exalted 3e (But sure as hell not 2e)) handle it well, others do not. You really have two mechanical options if you want a class to be charming. Arbitrary bonus to diplomacy (Not exactly a better system as it's a static DC) or using the charm condition. Skill Unlocks went for the latter option, letting someone with enough ranks in social skills use non-magical charm person as 'You are just that good'.

I'm not 100% happy with the archetype but, for the moment, don't really know how to represent it better than that.
>>
>>52410065
My complaint is that just handwaving it away in the foreword doesn't solve the problem (and in fact, makes it worse by providing blanket justification for anything a player might do with said charm spells).

You're right that there's not an easy way to fix it, though. I'd personally probably put in a modified paladin's code aimed at curtailing some of the more obvious abuses of power instead of just giving carte blanche myself. Neither is a particularly good solution though.

So what you're saying is that the increase in difficulty to make her willing directly correlates to the number of rapeful situation that her intelligence allows her to avoid, thus resulting in a zero-sum or worse for her?

Because keep in mind, what keeps the dumb girl from being raped is convincing her to say okay.
>>
>>52410199
Just shitposting. Wist is way cuter than me.
>>
>>52410011
It can. You can be talked into sex more easily. The earlier trickery anon used was a bad example, but if she's dumb enough for
>hey wanna do something fun? doesn't this feel good? wanna have even more fun? fun's fun, right? AW YEAH, SEAR THAT ROAST. FUCK THAT'S GOOD. CREEM FRAICHE

then technically she's agreeing to more sex and thus directly lowering the amount of rape.

It's bad if she thinks it's someone else; that's deception, but if she just doesn't realize this big guy with horns is technically not a human, well, she's just dumb.
>>
>>52410148

The issue I had with changing the code would be that it would be an admission that, in-universe, it's mind control.

Which goes back to the core issue: Pathfinder doesn't really have a middle ground between 'Mind control' and 'Rolling Diplomacy'. Ways to represent that basically don't exist and I was trying to crowbar it into that space.

One of the big things during it's initial run people wanted was it to add charm spells to the spell list, which I was very against as I was trying to avoid the wonders of mind control.

I think I'll rewrite it to not use the Charmed condition. As that has a lot of baggage that 'Becoming friendly' without using the word 'Charm' wouldn't have. Interactions, immunities and the emotional baggage that comes with 'Is this mind control?'

Does this read a bit better/less mind controlly?

>At 3rd level, a target affected by a dashing romantic's lay on hands or channel positive energy must succeed on a Will save (DC = 10 + ½ class level + dashing romantic's Charisma modifier) or be affected by the dashing romantic's allure and have it's attitude towards the dashing romantic become friendly for one hour per level of the dashing romantic. A creature thus affected by allure is in full control of it's mind and is not compelled to act against it's own interests and goals or to cease combat if it has reason to do so, though may be more willing to negotiate or less likely to engage in cold blooded murder, as it normal for a friendly creature.

>>
>>52410299

Alright. Well, tell your friend the wording is being updated.

It's SUPPOSED to be 'You make people friendly'. Not 'You mind control people with your feel good rays'. More 'Shonen hero who ends the punchup with the other guy with both of them smiling about how much fun it is' or 'Dashing swashbuckler who makes his opponent swoon' and less Infinity Crusade.

Giving people Atonement is sticking though (As Atonement literally can't be used on unwilling people. It just lets them change if they WANT)

As someone wiser than me told me: The suit you dress it up in matters a lot to how it feels regardless of the mechanics and I'm touching on an area that hits people right in the emotions.

I had experimented with Spheres of Might's armiger class earlier. I tried to figure out what the playstyle of a "fully optimal" armiger was, at least ruling out Small-sized characters on mounted flyers and Alchemy bombers.

The results were disappointing. It seems that the armiger still falls under the same optimization paradigm as every other Spheres of Might class: specialize in an attack action talent that helps you kill people (no need to debuff or do anything interesting when you can delete enemies, right?), and then load up on passive talents that support such a thing. All the customized weapons do is either add more cherries on top of your "kill people" routine, or give you a backup ranged option in case you are facing fliers or whatnot.

The rapid assault class feature at armiger class level 5th superficially *appears* to encourage Devil May Cry-style weapon switching attacks, but the optimal way to use it is actually to take two weapons of the exact same type, and then use rapid assault as a roundabout way to gain double attacks. For instance, an armiger should simply run up to an enemy, whack them with a dwarven longhammer, stow that dwarven longhammer, bring out a second dwarven longhammer, and bash the enemy with *that*. This is rather anticlimactic.

Really, Spheres of Might is suffering from an issue of the "boring, but effective" builds being the most optimal ones, rather than the builds that mix it up and actually use a variety of non-pure-damage effects in combat.

Could anyone suggest ways in which the armiger could become more like an actual "slasher video game" character, one that actually encourages diversity of weapons and mixing up tactics, rather than falling back into the same pattern of "just spam damage and kill people"?
>>
>>52410396
It seems to me that a secondary problem would be that the drawbacks in SoM don't really offer much in the line of actual drawback and are pretty much "take a free talent". Is that an accurate thing to say?
>>
>>52410404
They do generally remove access to one-half (or major parts) of a sphere. For example, Gladiator is both buffs and demoralize; taking a drawback to get rid of the buffs part gets you a free talent if all you care about is demoralize, but you still lose a part of the sphere (including base abilities).
>>
>>52410387
>The rapid assault class feature at armiger class level 5th superficially *appears* to encourage Devil May Cry-style weapon switching attacks, but the optimal way to use it is actually to take two weapons of the exact same type, and then use rapid assault as a roundabout way to gain double attacks.

...Ouch.
That's entirely right.

How much would change if there was an enforced 'no two of your weapons can share more than half the same talents' rule, or something similar?

Part of the issue is that some spheres offer *very* good one-talent (or one-feat via Extra Combat Talent) packages via drawbacks.

One of the strongest dips any character can make using Spheres of Might is to spend a single talent/feat on the Dueling sphere with both drawbacks. That immediately entitles the character to both of these:

>Defensive Slice
>When a ranged attack is made against you or a target within your reach, you can cut the weapon (or ammunition) out of the air, deflecting the attack so the target takes no damage. As an attack of opportunity, make a melee attack roll at your highest bonus. If the result is greater than the attack roll total of the ranged attack, the attack is deflected. You must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed. Associated Feat: Cut from the Air.

>Scar Tissue
>Your countless dueling practices have built up thick scar tissue and callouses that provide you protection from bleeding wounds. You gain DR 2 / bludgeoning and reduce all bleed damage you take by 1; bleed damage cannot be reduced below 0 by this ability. At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter the damage reduction granted by this ability increases by 2 points and you reduce any bleed damage you take by an additional 1 point.

For the price of a single talent/feat, you gain Cut from the Air + Smash from the Air and scaling damage reduction X/bludgeoning.

Take Muscular Reflexes (Strength-based Combat Reflexes from Spheres of Might) or Combat Reflexes, and you and any ally in your reach should be extremely well-defended against anything that requires a ranged attack roll.

This is probably unintentional though, seeing how a one-feat/one-talent investment is usually less spectacular. This could stand to be revamped.
>>
>>52410459

By the time you gain rapid assault at 5th-level, you will probably have enough "core talents" to ensure that all three of your customized weapons have unique sets of talents.

The actual boring part is that one of those weapons will be the exact same mundane weapon type as another one of those weapons, purely because rapid assault is a cheap method of multiattacking, and you obviously want to bring out your best mundane weapon type for a bread-and-butter multiattack.
>>
>>52410400
>Could anyone suggest ways in which the armiger could become more like an actual "slasher video game" character
This is hard for two reasons. First, Pathfinder weapon system is fucked. You always take the weapon with biggest damage dice and good crit/reach, depending on what you care about more for your build. SoM focusing on single attack actions makes Vital Strike desirable so high base dice is a must. Most other special qualities are inconsequential. That means it is very easy to point out the best choice and duplicate it. Second, SoM is almost entirely weapon-agnostic. You can use most talents and abilities with most weapons. Nothing is gated by your choice of gear so you have no incentive to pick something less than optimal (other than flavor, of course).

>How much would change if there was an enforced 'no two of your weapons can share more than half the same talents' rule
It's not about talents (notice how both hammers have different talents in 2hu's build), it's about using two identical weapons. You are not 2B with a BIg Word and Small Sword, or Dante with Big Sword and Some Cuhraaazee Shit. You are a guy with two identical hammers outfitted with different talents.

Also, Spheres of Might's paradigm shift towards martial traditions undermines the armiger, because they no longer have proficiency with all martial weapons, and instead have to settle for whatever they can scrounge up using a martial tradition. They can gain more leeway only by submitting to the GM's mercy for a custom martial tradition, or by blowing a talent on Equipment talents for more proficiencies.

>You are not 2B with a BIg Word and Small Sword, or Dante with Big Sword and Some Cuhraaazee Shit. You are a guy with two identical hammers outfitted with different talents.

Compounding the issue is the fact than an armiger's third weapon inevitably becomes a "backup weapon in case of emergencies."

In the build above, the aklys is only brought out during times when the character has absolutely no way of making a melee attack.

In a more ranged-centric armiger build, the character would probably have two identical ranged weapons, plus a backup melee weapon that is brought out only when ranged attacks are impossible for whatever reason.

There is simply no incentive at all to proactively mix up melee and ranged attacks like in a "slasher video game."

D&D 4e at least presented the Manticore's Fury feat, which gave you a temporary bonus to ranged damage rolls whenever you hit with a melee attack, and a temporary bonus to melee damage rolls whenever you hit with a ranged attack; Spheres of Might could definitely use something similar.

Basically, the "optimal" armiger is an extremely "boring yet effective" place right now.
>>
>>52410611
It's mostly just going to be used for interrogation, but if you don't have a problem with that, it does what it's set out to do well.
>>
>>52410647

Yeah, it likely will.

The intention is mostly 'Get to know the person well enough for a proper friendship to blossom/for the paladin to help them'. It's supposed to be thematically helping with the idea that the archetype is very focused on kindness (Why I didn't want it to beat people into friendliness with weapons).
>>
>>52410561
This is really frustrating. You either take something with talents you want and proficiencies you don't want or proficiencies you want with talents you don't want. And let's not forget about how SoM talents granting proficiencies do so for arbitrary lists of weapons so if something you want is outside them you have to spend even more resources.

>>52410642
>Spheres of Might could definitely use something similar.
I think it would be relatively easy to give armigers bonuses for attacking with different weapon types during their Rapid Assaults. Something like "after making an attack with light blade your next attack treats enemy AC as 2 lower" etc. Of course those wouldn't stack, maybe scale. This way you could mix up your combos for different benefits albeit that would have to be designed very carefully to avoid making obvious best combinations.
>>
>>52410708

Alright. This is kinda related to my Pegasus Knight so I shoved it in the same file.

I wrote up new rules for mounted weapons on the charge. Or at least, some special qualities to make it better. I wrote up a few new cavalry weapons and a few special qualities to make them not quite so samey/nothing but pure damage.

It's on the last page, if people want to take a look.

Memes aside, I can't tell if the over-representation of the players in /pfg/ games is due to some sort of favoritism/cronyism, or if it's that they have better quality apps.

Then again, those apps might only be high quality because they get accepted to so much, giving them experience in writing successful ones.

There's not really that much you need to have a good app.

Just a gimmick, effective creative writing, and fit the tone of the game.

Gimmick isn't too hard if you're not racelocked.

Fitting the tone of the game is a simple matter of looking over the setting info.

And effective creative writing - READ YOUR GODDAMN APP AFTER WRITING. See if it makes sense. Ask a friend if it makes sense. See if it is enthralling, or if it's boring. Rewrite it to be more exciting.

That's about it. Try and snag some reviews to see if you've missed anything out.

So... my GM is having us run gestalt characters, which I did not originally want to do, but now I figure, what the hell? Run a wizard/cleric gestalt and qualify for mystic theurge for 4th level? Also starting with 8 + 2 (Con) + 3 (toad familiar) + 3 (toughness) + 1 (favored class) for 17 starting hp? At 1st level? There's nothing wrong with that, right?

I dunno how to feel about this campaign. There are no official PF rules for gestalt so he's using the 3.5 ones. This is going to be weird. But hey before you call me a munchkin, I never powergame, at best I optimize suboptimal martial builds which is the biggest joke in existence. These guys run broke-ass characters in my games all the time. Now for a little payback... heh.
>>

Currently, the single best way to use Spheres of Might's Boxing sphere is to dedicate your focus to it, and then ready a counter punch with a trivial trigger such as "the next time I blink, I will counter punch the enemy in my reach." The payoff is all the benefits of a counter punch, plus a flood of triggered Boxing talents.

This seems grossly unintentional.

Ahh now I see. Although I guess mystic theurge wouldn't even help technically speaking, because I am effectively starting out as one. I mostly just want it to have the class name on my character sheet. Combined casting would be nice but I can live without it. I will skip Mystic Theurge then.

>>52411934
I don't care much. I toyed with gestalt characters once and the game DID break and half of them weren't even caster builds. I tried four times to explain to the DM that gestalt is just even more broken but he would not listen, so now I want to break the game entirely (not to shit it up, I will hold back until I really need to) but I like being in control, maybe? I dunno, I've just never been a munchkin before and the idea of it is giving me a pathetic little stiffy.

Any ideas on what spells I should take? I won't be wearing armor so Mage Armor might be a nice one to have prepared. Color spray and sleep are both in my spellbook depending on the circumstance. Magic missile as well because I can never go without it. Rope trick is level 2, I have grease, and animate rope because it's always been my favorite. What cleric spells are best to prepare? I will need to heal until I get a wand but besides that? Command? Scare? It's been a while since I played a caster.

If you build your character right, others will flock to meme it for you. Shilling does nothing - /pfg/ isn't voting for your character, only the DM matters.

If you want to increase your chances, do something useful like suck up to the DM or do reviews of all the characters.

That's the thing. You shouldn't NEED to prod others to shill your character. The shilling and meming doesn't actually DO anything. It's just a measure of how well you've made your character and how memorable it is.

If your character is impressive enough that others will meme it, it's going to be impressive enough that the GM will remember it and be more likely to pick it.

Sorcerer and Oracle both have real features and are CHA based. Lunar Oracle, for example, nets you Change in place of Dex for AC, then with a feat you get Cha-to-init. THEN you take the animal companion and laugh your way to the bank.

You're no prepared caster, but you're still two somewhere casters.

Apps are a meme.

Look at HR.

Both 2hu and PLDgm got picked. PLDgm literally had a stand up comedy rountine as their app. No character sheet, no role, not even a personality, just literally "What's the deal with airline food? hurrdurrdurrrr" Then had the fucking gull to shit on everyone who applied to his game. At all, during session 1, did Alexa ever mention selling water filters or not to drink the water? Did anything that happened in that mess of a fucking sad shit tier faggotbait excuse for an app get brought up or mentioned at all?

And 2hu was guaranteed a slot without having to post an app. They did anyways, but even if he hadn't, he'd still be in.

People just want to play with their friends. The app process is a smoke screen.
>>
>>52412066

It does get pretty strong, yeah. I'm not sure that's really a bad thing, as it does have big limitations (The dudes need to be right next to them/you need to be able to use strikes on a charge.)

Both of them more or less add 'An early level manuver's effects' to the charge.

Still, I will ponder it.

And sure, that is 100% ok. The more people working on fixing cavalry the better.
>>
>>52412127
If I roll two 15s I'll be fine. I suppose I should be smart and go with oracle since I am guessing that's divine charisma-based but I don't want to because I'm a faggot. Good suggestion, though, and I'll keep it in mind in case my first character gets BTFO.

You're not getting it.

If you need to shill your character and force it as a meme, that means it's not good enough to stand on its own two rights.

It's like a cargo cult - people see apps that get picked being memed and think that being memed is why they're getting in - so they try to push their own characters in the thread. But that doesn't make the apps any better, it just fools them into thinking they've made themselves popular. Trying to shill your character is the opposite of making a good character.

Plenty. Most of DHB's characters had severe memestorms around them (some negative, but ostly positive) for instance. Onryou was also the only member of the Kaijitsu Force that actually made it into RotJR and while she was the posterchild for KF, the others had their fair share of memery.

>>52412385

>>52412385
Mutiple Ability Dependency and Single Attribute Dependency.

Basically, MAD means you gotta have multiple decent stats at the very least for your char to work (example: Monk need Strength to hit, Dex for AC, Con to survive frontline, Wisdom for their ability, and Int for skill points)

SAD means you only need one single stat for your character to function. (example: Wizard only really need Int to function)

No, if you have an arcane fullcaster on the other side of a divine fullcaster you are locking yourself to the "unarmored caster" role. You cannot wear armor without invoking spell failure chance for your arcane spells unless you have a class feature to remove it, or you wear armor with NO SFC. That armor is usually light armor, and armor with a really shitty armor bonus.

Yeah let me see what I roll for scores, if I get two 15+ I'll go with wizard/cleric, otherwise I'll try to slip in that empyreal sorcerer thing which actualyl sounds pretty cool. Thanks anons.

So I was flipping through some of my splat books and found an option that really intrigues me. It's an Alchemist discovery called Syringe Stirge, which basically lets you create an autonomous bomb with +16 Stealth that you can sick on anyone you can "see", who it will hunt down and attempt to inject the bomb into. This seems like a prime subject for shenningans, and I'm looking at combining it with some kind of Divination or Illusion magic to get better range or stealth. Anyone else ever used this Discovery?

>>

>that you can sick on anyone you can "see"
Are you sure about?

Looking on the SRD it says

>As a swift action, you can order one of your syringe stirges to attack an enemy it can see.

So you would have to do something to boost its line of sight, not your own. I'm not sure how you could do that, but theoretically if you gave it x-ray vision or such, it could see someone through a wall and then go after them.

As for ideas, the most simple is to put some kind of contact poison on your stirge before you send it off, preferably something that deals Con damage. The stirge will land, poison the target and then deal your bomb damage. Hopefully between the two that will be enough to kill them.

Once again I'm so glad I have helpful people on 4chan to inform me of my motivations.

In the interest of doing my part to combat the hilarious amounts of misinformation that comes with the gossip ridden drama fest that is /pfg/ nowadays I will clarify a few points.

First of all, in the case of both 2hu and PLDgm I discussed their character concepts with them behind the scenes to elucidate on a few points. The app served its purpose of getting me interested, and while the app didn't have all the details in it let me reveal to you a little secret. This isn't a creative writing test, you don't get a fucking grade, this isn't some kind of weird meritocratic system by which you 'earn' a slot in a game. You get into games by making a character that the GM wants in their game, it's as simple as that.

Regarding PLDgm in particular, I had talked to them very little before they had submitted their character, and not all that much more during the application process.

Regarding 2hu, he would not have gotten in if he had not posted an app, and in fact if it weren't for the fact that I already knew about his character in full detail beforehand I likely wouldn't have accepted the app that he posted, due to it being a bit of a tire fire. Top tips kids, when you're suffering from hardcore writers block and are on a super strict deadline, don't choose that moment to write an app that's first person from the perspective of an NPC connected to your character. It doesn't work out.

Roads don't work so well if there's no governing body to pay for their construction, upkeep, and security, otherwise they just act as highwayman magnets, and a place to take a dump on the side of.
You need to have a well maintained and active military force in order to ensure the usability of roads and the enforcement of law, and in order to do so eficient they need to be able to act with the authority, and oversight, of a leadership figure that both has athaurity over, yet is beholden to, the proletariat, and the esiest way to do so is with some for of either democratic, aristocratic, or theocratic federal power

Both exist. Hard work nurtures talent. Talent doesn't get you anywhere by itself, but talent can give you a leg up. People who say it is only talent are ass hats who deny people's efforts. People who say it's only hard work deny that some people are simply more inclined to tasks than others. Bobby Fischer for instance worked his ass off, but the man was literally designed to play chess.

being a hard worker is a sort of talent

If you want some honest advice, just seek out people to review your apps and strive to learn from them. Don't be depressed or hostile when you get a bad review; rather, PM the person and ask for clarifications. Make sure to take theirbadvice to heart. Even if you don't think you can use the advice, it's always helpful to get fresh outside perspectives and see what other people tend to look for in applications rather than just sitting in an echo chamber.

>"I won't ask for advice because it'll make people.. hate me? For some reason?"
Not that anon you're talking to, but let me add something on this. I have a this thing where I worry that if I draw any attention to me or my character, it'll just get shitposted into non-existence.

I guess it's sort of a social anxiety. I try to post and ask for advice, and what I imagine happening is the thread going "Oh look at this loser trying to subtle shill their app. You're not sneaky." And it just gets worse cause then I worry that anytime I apply to a game afterwards, the GM will just go "Oh, it's THAT faggot who tried to shill his app in the thread like a fucking loser. Auto-rejected. kek"

So I don't hit submit. I close the post box and pretend everything's okay, when I already know it's not and can't reach out for help.

I don't know if this anon feels the same way, but maybe he does? Please try being considerate.
