No problem. What's 1000 links and a dozen hours between friends?

As to the index: Tomorrow is a rare game day for me, so I'll be out all day and didn't really have time to do much today due to prep work and such.

For now the plan is a base game index in plain text with a number representing how many books for said game exist in a given trove. Later to be expanded by the much larger job of adding the names of each and every book, trove by trove.

In this example I leave off the name of the base game from the individual files to save the extra characters I have to type out. Can't cut and paste names from the trove website, alas, so this shall be a manual operation. I also left the discrepancy between "Book" and "Volume" for accuracy's sake. And I removed all symbols and left only single spaces for the sake of simplifying specific searches.

I felt that doing an abridged table of contents for all the troves at first, followed by complete tables one by one, would mean having version 1 out extra quick and upgrade the usefulness of the trove section broadly in the first stroke. We can then get to the dirty business of specificity over time.

My assumption has thus far been that you plan to cram this thing into the archive once I hand it off (The reason you asked for the links to be broken?) but if I've got it wrong or you have any other changes to the plan that you'd prefer, do let me know.

I also welcome the thoughts and suggestions of the rest of the Anon Brigade as well. I'm no expert in this sort of work.

I've been through all the L5R troves and mega collections from the archive I could get my hands on for my own collection and I only have the 4e version of Emerald Empire.

Bit of research tells me the 4e version is the same as the 3e version, just with some minor additions. The only thing the 4e is actually missing is some mechanics stuff that was unique to 3e but not unique to the EE book. So the L5R super-nerds tell me, anyway.

i think we should do some kind of audit so we can find out which books are super common in the collections and which arent. if we know that there is only one collection for Gurps, then we can focus on mirroring that, and we dont have to worry about mirroring another collection or game if we can confirm a bunch of already existing copies.

I believe you are the best friend I have never met.
I plan to make your your document the primary 'Major League' archive. The rest of Da Archive will be Volume 2 with the 'Minor League' links along with the Generals.
Then the Annex for new unsorted stuff.

Broken links are to try to minimize exposure to matrixbots and also pdfs with hyperlinks are not easy for me to assimilate. Hyperlinks in an .odt file are great, but can't be posted here. In this case I already have all the hyperlinks anyway.
I think this going to be great.

sorry, i was just using gurps as an example. but later I can look over some of the troves and see if I can generate some kind of 'danger level' for some game systems. such as 'we only have one source of X game, please copy, and we have 10 sources for Y game so its 'low risk'. etc etc. Its not really for exact books. CTRL+F in Da Archive and/or Da Annex, type the Title of what you're after.

Some Friendly Tips from a on and off Request Filler, as a Bonus:
Try removing things like "The" and "A" from the start Title and searching again. Try searching for just one word from the Title after that.

Failing all of these, open up the Collections in the first section that state a large number of folders but only list a small portion of them.

Next try searching things from the same core system. Looking for a rare Tri-Stat based game? Look at a BESM trove or two.

Looking at troves for games that come from the same publisher works, too. Need you some Red Tide or Spears of the Dawn? More than one Trove marked Stars Without Number will contain those.

This is what our labors here are all about.

I love digging out rare and hard to come by requests, don't get me wrong. The Treasure Hunt aspect pleases me, for sure, and I get not having the time to dig for hours on end yourself.

But the Archive should always be stop Numero Uno, Friend Anons.

Microscope is a small, hard-to-find game. It is not the Holy Grail, it is more like Where’s Waldo. The author puts a lot of effort into removing it from upload sites, it is usually taken down in an hour or two. It rarely lasts a full day.
You Should Just Go Here: It is like a slideshow demo, probably better/faster than reviewing the rules.

I will respect the author’s wishes and encourage Anon to do the same. If the author gets annoyed enough at the myriad short-lived links to their game on these threads, they might complain loudly to New Moot who might remove our ability to post Pdfs at all.

It is human nature to obsess over that which is denied them, while ignoring that which is within easy reach.

Contact our resident Transmutation Wizard and politely ask him to clean a pdf. He will set his scrying device to accept pdfs and then you ship it to him. Magic occurs, then the pdf is purified.

Apologies to our friendly neighborhood Archivist for my lack of work on The Mission™ as of late. Real Life is a dirty little tramp that seems to only act up when I'm trying to get something done.

Finding myself with a few minutes free from it's grasp I selected a collection and typed up a quick Version 1 table of contents.

You had said to act on the most stable (oldest) collections first but, since they don't seem to be dated and my memory of which have been there the longest has failed me, I'm not clear on what order to go in.

Thus I just selected the first that was under a single link, going from top to bottom, and will continue in such a fashion unless advised otherwise.

Typing directly into a PDF is rather tedious in my current PDF program, so I typed it up in plain ole' RTF and used a free print to PDF utility to create the file. If this causes any problems on your end please do let me know of a preferred way of going about it.

I redacted the name of The Game Which Shall Not Be Named for the sake of protecting the collection, but I'm a bit reluctant to post even this test document in case there are any other games which should remain nameless. I'd hate to kill Frogs collection just because I chose it for the first test and didn't know which names are poison besides the truly notorious one.

So, before I post it, are there any I should redact besides the $c0p3?

I removed dashes and such in favor of plain space format for searching. Mostly a list of folders for this collection. I did, however, go into the 'Various' folder and alphabetize the PDFs therein into the master game list. I did not, however, dig into the design, worldbuilding, or GM guide folders and list it all, as these didn't fit into a 'Game' or 'Series' for the most part. I may change my mind as I add to the Document(s) later, but I'm sticking to my shaky logic for now.

The formatting and font size looks funky to me after conversion but I'm not a PDF guy, so I leave alterations to someone more qualified. I'm just here for the clickity-clack work to get the search keywords up and running.

Seeing the comment on fonts reminded me of the Sparks fonts by Cumberland Games. Anyone have those by chance?

This one was larger and ended up 2 pages. I wonder if twin or triple columns like a book index might be a better format for the sake of keeping the bigger collections from ending up eating multiple pages of space?

I am unsure if maintaining Da Wish List is worthwhile. I can easily keep reposting it, but it is huge. I generally stopped adding to it when it got to 1000 entries. There are a few entries that have been filled that could be removed, but not many.

I have also noticed that this thread has been somewhat slower the last few months than in the past. I think part of that is because the Generals threads are better and more numerous than they used to be. I like to think it is because more people find stuff in Da Archive on their own and don't post requests.
It would be interesting to know the data on the traffic flow around here.

Well, I too felt as you do when I read it: sounds bloody intriguing. However...in practice, lulz ensue pretty readily - without a single narrative voice/plan/vision, it runs off the rails. Or, I should say, has the tendency to run off the rails - only a highly disciplined group, it seems to me, can pull it off; and even then the end result is just kind of a thing that is there - there's no real agency for the players to invest in emotionally. You get an interesting series of little tales and a possibly cool overall 'lump of story/myth, but there's no reason to come back to it after the game session: it's over and done; next session you make/play an entirely different concept. (You CAN continue to add to a previous game; but each game is so unique and differentiated from what came before that it may as well be totally different.)
This is what we found. Now, my players are bastards, so our experience may not be typical...but I feel that, deep down, most of us roleplayers are a bit bastardly; so I'm sure our experience is not unique...
I don't mean to shit on the game, as it sounds wicked as hell: but I feel it important to share my experience so you can at least approach it with yer eyes open. Microscope can turn into comedic one-upmanship pretty quick.
And have a Nebula while I'm here! She's got a /tg/ related movie coming out soon.

A mont or two ago I started reading a guide to Japanese mythology here. Not from Da Archive, the pdf was posted directly in the thread. I think it was a part of a series (at least a polynesian one was posted as well, I seem to recall).
Does anybody have it/them? Or is it in the Archive but I can't find it?

I have never seen this new book in the wild. I'm ecstatic over it but was wondering if you or anyone might be able to clean it up and add bookmarks by any chance?

I am a non-knowledgeable user of PDFs so if that is a difficult thing, it wasn't your clean (or area of specialty) so I dig not getting to it.

Figured I'd ask since you are basically a pillar here. (Not flattering for the requests, I've praised your Deity-status many times in past for your help)

Hoping some day you do get into C+C (not the Music Factory) and put your skills to use there. Certainly anyone redoing or cleaning up the rare Upper Works would be a godsend also.
