So are Custodes -supposed- to have terrible shooting in their default spears and swords, or do GW think a stormbolter on a more than 50 point model is good?

I'm not calling custards underpowered here, I'm just baffled they have their little plinky shooting that contradicts their image as super elites with better equipment than everyone.
>>
What's a good way to represent Shrapnel Bolts on a Heavy Bolter? For my Manta, two SB Hbolters are the exact stats of my Burst Cannon I need to substitute, so if I can somehow find 32 of the damn things I can build 16 pairs to arm the thing. Do I just use regular Heavy Bolters, or convert them somehow?

Well it's basically a power lance that has improved AP values so as to be acurally useful, plus the lightning strikes rule.

But the gun component really mostly serves to make it look more unweildy, given it only shoots bolt rounds.
>>

Looks pretty nice, but I feel the metallic edging could do with one more coat in places - it seems to have been reddened by overspill of red wash from the flat areas. For example, compare the bottom of the chestplate to the edging on the legs.
>>
>>52276106
Dies Irae was 43m (141 ft) tall in one of the early HH novels. Helsreach says 60m tall (197 ft). Apocalypse says 55.5m, and shows a Warhound (14m high) at about a quarter of its height. Those differ, but it really depends on whether the cathedral on top has spires or not. Maybe they didn't really do the cathedral thing until after the Imperial Cult became widespread.

I reckon so. A big problem Horus seemed to have is a lot of the primarchs on his side had a tendency to fuck about. Hell, but for luck Fulgrim would have got Pertuarbo killed, leaving Horus a primarch short. The loyalist primarchs would probably stick to their tasks a bit better.

No pretty obviously not, Horus stacked things in favour of the traitor legions and the biggest loyalist legions got distracted by wild goose chases. The loyalists would have never managed that much. The only reason traitors lost is because after Horus died they could never decide who should rule after that, an oligarchy being beyond their understanding thanks to Imperial indoctrination.
>>
>>52278181
Can't remember which book the short story was in, but there's a meeting in which Horus asks Morty to go hunt down the white scars because he's the only primarch he can actually rely on to do his fucking job, apart from Perty who would just sit in his fortifications while the scars ran rings around him. When 6 out of the 8 primarchs on the traitor side can't be trusted to do the jobs given them by the warmaster, "fucking about" seems pretty appropriate.

I run 2 Dracosans w/ Demolishers for transporting my Veletaris Storm Sections, I figured I could toss a Lasrifle Section in the Stormlord to ferry them where needed.
Also, 30shots overwatching with the Vulcan Mega-Bolter looks fun.

Is there a reason GW kits designed to be used by multiple armies are completely covered in fucking aquilas? I want to convert some Traitor Reductor Basilisks, but there's four eagles built into the gun alone, plus all the giant ones on the chassis.
Not looking forward to all the filing off shit the various kits going into the Filiketos will need.
>>
>>52278883

Because they're meant for 40k, where that shit is the norm.
>>
>>52278883
>Is there a reason GW kits designed to be used by multiple armies

Because its not, the Basilisk is designed to be used by the Imperial Guard. The fact that it can be used by traitors is something that came after the creation of the kit so you need to put work into it if you want to file off those aquilas.
>>
>>52278686
A stormlord is a bit bizarre in that its weapon choice and its capacity dont mix well. It's got a gatling that is flat death to the enemy, but can only fire enough to be worthwhile by sitting still. Its got insane carrying capacity, but thats just more anti-infantry carried inside it, and when all it is is a lasrifle section, you may as well not even bother. Honestly, i would recommend either the regular Baneblade for general-purpose killyness if you're cheap or the Stormhammer for the ultimate gunboat if you can afford it.
>>
>>52277906
Lorgar got hit in the face by a titans plasma blast. Angron then stopped said titan from stomping on Lorgar by holding its foot mid stomp.

Sniper Vets wounding EVERYTHING on 3s, Volkite squads wounding infantry squads on 2s, better Predators than any legion and your Tacticals wound infantry on 3s, they virtually have heavy bolters!. Its not an OP RoW but if you wanted to run bolter boys in rhinos then its the best there is.
>>
>>52278979
How do the volkitws get the +1 to wounds? They don't meet the criteria.
>>
>>52278969
That was actually my main concern! Seems like a 'win-more' but only when winning sorta thing.

For the Stormhammer, which was my 2nd choice, I'd still put a Tank Commander in it (BS4) and LD biffs. Would you recommend swapping out all of its Multilasers for Lascannons, then using the command ability for Tank Hunter? That would make it have 6x BS4 Lascannon shots with Tank Hunter in addition to its main cannons.

>>
>>52278311
That actually happens in Path of Heaven, and there might be similar conversations in Vengeful Spirit.

Fulgrim goes off on his own to become a daemon prince (nearly killing Perturabo in the process - that would have been disastrous). At least he did a thing on Isstvan V, but yes, the Emperor's Children are not a success story.

Horus needs Perturabo for taking worlds and besieging Terra - going after a fast legion is one of the few tasks he'd be terrible at. Perty was mostly fine, but it was dumb to get bogged out on Tallarn and losing a ton of armor chasing some mysterious artifact.

The Night Lords get smashed by the Dark Angels and cease to function as a legion after that. Not a success story.

The World Eaters and Word Bearers have been reasonably effective so far in the BL series, but they obviously fail to keep the BA, UM, and DA from leaving that part of the Imperium. (The UM and DA's imminent arrival is given as one of the reasons Horus invited the Emperor up to the Vengeful Spirit, when the traitors were winning the siege.) We'll see what happened there.

The Death Guard and Sons of Horus are effective.

The Thousand Sons don't do much that we know of until a very small contingent appears on Terra.

The Alpha Legion don't know what side they're on.

What the fuck is the Siege of Baal?
>>
>>52279396

Baal started as a rad waste.
Sanguinius turned it into a pinnacle of civilization and fixed the world.
A big siege during the heresy bombed it back into a rad waste.

Precision shot does look pretty nasty on here too, than many Lascannons would surely wipe out what I want. Ever bother keeping any Multilasers on it beyond the co-axial one?

Can I see your list mate?

>Prosecutor Cadre can replace their boltguns for two bolt pistols for free
Is it worth doing if you don't put them in a transport? Is it worth doing even if you do? What bits would you use?

I'm thinking of taking three units of ten for cheap fearless scoring in a Talons list and having them infiltrate but I can't really decide if I should just keep them as far back as possible with the bolters or actually be aggressive with their aura and have them assault stuff. Past experience and math tells me T3 has no place in close combat, but.. I mean, at least they're I4 WS4, right?
>>
>>52279468
HKMs are only worth it currently when bringing a legion list with enough speeders to open with a fusillade to crack every light vehicle or artillery piece in range.

120-Lord Marshal-Displacer field, Power Fist, Digital Lasers
55-Tank Commander (malcador or infernus, tank hunters or PE Infantry)
55-Tank Commander (stormhammer, tank hunters if enemy mech, or precision shots for lascannon-sniping characters/medics in a horde)

240-Household Retinue with Power Axes, Arvus Lighter

280-Storm Section+demolisher Dracosan
280-Storm Section+demolisher Dracosan
280-Storm Section+demolisher Dracosan

200-Thunderbolt Fighter
200-Thunderbolt Fighter

340-Malcador-Demolisher Cannon, Lascannon sponsons, Siege Armour, Flare Shield, Armoured Ceramite
290-Malcador Infernus-Chem-munitions

660-Stormhammer, Armoured Ceramite, six lascannon sponsons, pintle lascannon

The retinue basically drops in front of an enemy's nasty CC unit and says come at me bro, and when they usually achieve a nearly equal KO except against shit like Justaerin, and the marshal teleports out, the remnants are left wide open to get blasted. Fun Fact, when Horus is in a unit, he's majority toughness 4 and can be sniped with lascannons and then shat on by enough high-powered blasts to annihilate his unit.

Nigga, that wasn't just a mysterious artifact, that was the Cursus of Alganar. We're talking a daemon portal of such magnitude that alarms started wailing in the Black Library and Biel Tan went full Swordwind and awakened their Avatar after some space arab whacked it with a tractor.

If the Iron Warriors could have brought that thing to Terra they'd have access to infinite daemons to throw at the walls.

Oh, i just have two old thunderbolts from my Guard, so i use them. Primaris is better, especially since they get krakens for 10 points cheaper than Legions, but my list is already pretty mean. I wouldnt want to proxy the only model that actually is in the army list, too.

And yeah, points. The dracosans already have oodles of HP, so unless a kraken lightning, vindi squadron or a dread with chainfist turns up, they're pretty tough. Plus i have three, and also two malcadors, and also a Stormhammer, so target priority is pretty haywire.

There's not that much of Thousand Sons being awesome in the HH book about the TS actually. Mainly because they were more concerned about learning and improving their mastery rather than showing off. And the parts about SW are pretty much in line with the usual tropes : yiffs being tough 'n the bestest 'n shit just 'cause.

If you wanna read about Thousand Sons kicking ass you gotta go for stories from 40k mostly (specially in the last two campaign books Magnus is kicking some serious ass)

Archmagos and Magos get stuck in with the castellax. Thanatar shells from the back. Both are anti-infantry, while the three vultarax are anti-vehicle, split up in case of rhinos / dreadnoughts. Declared loyalist, so no Scoria. Expected armies I remember are Sons of Horus, World Eaters, Night Lords, Raven Guard, and Solar Auxilia. Expected Primarchs I can remember are Angron, Corax, and two Horuses. Any thoughts on this list? I'm aiming for a kill everything list. While I prefer the three Vultarax for now, I wouldn't be averse to dropping one, disappointing as it is.

put upgrades on the castellax, they're I4 in LC so frag grenades become relevant and ETA seems more worth it than not. if you need to table people you really need to table people. it's even worth considering power blades for extra CC attacks. you'd probably get more payoff from those upgrades than from the domitar honestly.

FW's been pretty consistent with these two, even though GW hasn't. GW just tends to give Marines Mk VII arms anyway.

FW Mk V arms are Mk VII-style, plus an extra heavy-duty cable running from under the shoulder down to the elbow plate. Their Mk VI arms are basically Mk VII ones without the raised wrist trim/ridge, and no panel lines.

Forrix' cape is actually made out of adamantium weave, meaning it's more resilient than an actual power armour, while Sisters of Silence's Vratine armour relies on moon-mail and isn't even void-sealed, yet still provides a 3+, while Oblivion knights wear a glass-mesh that provides a 4++ against blasts, aka it's more resilient than Tartaros TDA against Medusae.

Scoria is a fucking mistake and shouldn't exist. He's more resilient than Satarael, the undying Magos that conveniently lacks Eternal Warrior or even a proppa invuln, hits harder than Draykavac and is the fastest Mechanicum character out there.

Would this list facilitate my desire to have a decent back-and-forth and put out some punishment before I probably lose?

I am not a competitive player. I more or less just enjoy having painted models on the board and occasionally pulling off something crazy.

>2500pt Shattered Legions list,
>Rite of War: The Sagyar Mazan
>Scars Praetor, Paragon Blade, Archeotech Pistol, Iron Halo, Cyber hawk
>Imperial Fists Legion Champion Consul: Master crafted Power Axe, Artificer armor, boarding shield
>Blood Angels Moritat Consul, 2x Volkite Serpenta, Power axe, Artificer Armor, Refractor Field, Jump Pack
>10man Scars Assault Squad, 1 each Power Sword, Axe, Glaive
>14man Fists Breacher squad, 2x meltagun, power fist
>3x Scars Apothecaries, 3x power glaive, 1 bike, 1 jump pack, 1 combi-plasma
>10x Scars Seekers, 10x combi-plasma, Power glaive.
>9x Scars Outriders, Power Sword, 2x Power Axe, Sergeant, Power Glaive,
>Fists Leviathan Siege Dreadnought, Claw, Grav flux bombard, Volkite Calivers, Phosphex Discharger
>Blood Angels Deredeo Dreadnought, Anvillus Autocannons, Aiolos Missile Launcher, 2x Iliastus Assault Cannon
>Total: 2499pts

Breachers hold the middle as a cool looking speedbump. Seekers chase the bird around. Dreads smash and shoot. Bikes fill in where needed. Moritat just looks cool and maybe gets one decent round of CHOOM.

Behind you stands a symbol of oppression. Somnus Citadel, where a thousand men have languished under the name of this man, Malcador, who has been held up to you as the shining example of justice!
You have been supplied with a false idol to stop you tearing down this CORRUPT IMPERIUM! Let me tell you the truth about Malcador from the words of Terra's Praetorian, Rogal Dorn. "Alpharius didn't attack Malcador. He saved my librarian, then took the blame for Malcador's tax evasion fraud so I could, to my shame, build a lie around this fallen idol. I praised the madman who tried to underfund my own Legion, but I can no longer live with my lie. It is time to trust the people of Terra with the truth, and it is time for me to resign." And do you accept this man's resignation? And do you accept the resignation of all of these liars?! Of all the corrupt?!?
We take Terra from the corrupt, the authoritarian, the oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity - and we give it back to you, the Legiones Astartes. Terra is yours. None shall interfere, do as you please. But start by storming the Somnus Citadel and freeing the oppressed! Step forward, those who would serve! For an army will be raised. The powerful will be ripped from their decadent nests, and cast out into the uncaring battlefield that we know and endure. Courts will be convened. Spoils will be enjoyed! Blood will be shed! The Militia will survive, as they learn to serve true justice. This great Imperium... it will endure. Terra will survive.

swap one of the custodes squads for sentinels because of staying power, and the basilisk for medusas. If the HSS is for anti-aricraft work get a deredeo instead, it is more accurate and better at punching light armor, and only loses out shooting at PA bodies. Heavy Armor will be a significant concern for you, and spartans or landraiders in number could give you headaches.

Otherwise looks fairly standard, and you have a decent amount of scoring. What RoW are you using?
>>
>>52285122
Salamanders and Iron Hands are blessed with access to the best defensive gear, and IH characters can still make praetor punchy without having to give up a hand.
>>
>>52285165
Sentinels and medusas cost more, and I want to be able to cram in the Knight and the full array of Custodes minis. Might drop the Heavy Support squad altogether to free up some room. They were going to be the artillery bodyguards and dedicated anti-tank, but their points could maybe be better spent elsewhere. I also might leave out the Terminator squad and just park the Praetor with someone else.

No RoW, I couldn't find one that fits.
>>
>>52285111
Maybe swap the basilisks for Medusae, as although the penis extension gun IS prety iconic, the other is better.
Melta Bombs on your sarges is probably better than a combi-melta.
Missiles are mediocre without any form of buffing, even with tank hunters, for the points you could bring a dorito, some predators or a mortis dread.
The better troop choice for Custards is the sword/board, as they have much greater staying power than the spears have killyness.
Otherwise, seems alright. The biggest waste of points in your army is the praetor and his cataphracts, which don't really fit in anywhere. They'll deepstrike, true, but all your opponents will be shooting their ap2 weapons at the actually threatening units, i.e. custards, while the small arms will be pointed at your cataphracts, who both gain nothing from your investment in shields and are also a Knight's worth of points, to say nothing of killpoints and slay the warlord. I strongly suggest swapping the entire unit out. You're not using a Rite, and your Custards should be able to handle most CC, so consider using a Siege Breaker, Forge Lord or similar, shooty HQ choice.
>>
>>52285156
He's forced to walk. Take tyrant seige terminators and make good use of his cognis-signum on them, find any way possible to start them in a forward position as they'll be slow to get anywhere.
>>
>>52285223
Yeah, looks like the Sentinels may find their way in at the expense of the terminators.

Siege Breakers and other consuls can't be your primary HQ, though, otherwise I'd have definitely taken one. The plan at the moment is to just park a cheap Praetor in a tank with the Custodes, if that's allowed. Either that or have him sit on the backfield.
>>
>>52285243
Forgelords, Siege Breakers, Chaplains, Vigilators and Delegatus are compulsory choices, friendo. Plus vanilla Centurions, who do not have to take a consulhood.

Does anyone run dreads with dual purpose or is it single purpose all the time?

With the osiron dread coming with mandatory force sword, I kinda want to see if I can make a force fist + chain fist melee dread. The bolter in the chain fist likely needs to be swapped with something else like melta probably, since I can't turn that fist bolter to shoot asphyx shells.

Probably too expensive right?
>>
>>52285045
what if use resin boxnaughts?
>>
>>52285468
Way expensive, for the cost of an Osiron properly kitted out you're looking at close to 250, for which you could have a kitted out unit of vets in a rhino or nearly two Cortus dreads. That doesnt mean its bad, however, since any GK/BA player will tell you that dreads with psykery are amazing. I would recommend giving it either fist+sword for melee strength, lascannon+sword or Assault Cannon+sword, and then have it lead a few regular dreads with various weapons as a sort of dreadforce.

I like them, since its almost guaranteed to hit and wound if an enemy MC/character is the last one standing. My contemptor-mortis has two kills on Vulkan, one kill on Alpharius or was it? and killed a Thanatar.

Also sometimes they get ignored by an enemy player. Lascannon dreads are relatively mobile, long-ranged and no-one wants, for example, their av11 sides exposed on a plasma predator squadron, which an opponent made the mistake of leaving exposed turn one because they were on the other side of the map. I got one weapon destroyed (the plasma cannon) and one explosion result, which nearly made back its points twice over on turn one. They might not be the very best, but they can be devestating when you factor in their accuracy, reliability and raw power.
>>52285868
They're more likely to get an explodes result, and have much longer range than Kheres. Kheres is great for mulching HP, but its short range and no AP value to speak of means it cant ever get an explodes and an enemy can exploit its short range to dodge interceptor

While they're not best (others have covered that) I think the Sister of Silence HQs are perhaps the most points-efficient. The generic one gets you a fighty character with a paragon blade for under 100 points, which is pretty decent. Then there's Krole, who I reckon should beat pretty much anyone without Eternal Warrior, for the price of an average praetor (paragon blade + halo). They're obviously not shield tribune tier, but for the points you spend I think they're damn good value.

Been doing some reading on the First Legion. Apparently the Lion himself was described as kingly and surprisingly good at Terran politics while his Legion has the second most victories despite when he was found. >>
>>52287003
I doubt it, all teh sisters that were left on Prospero couldn't stop Magnus pulling off an unprecedented bit of psykery and they actually seem fairly shit from the books. They have to get pretty close before they have any effect on psykers, I think they aren't cut out for battlefields though.
>>
>>52287003
The Emperor probably can't use powers on them directly and they might put some limit on what he can pull off, but that's about it.
In Rise of the Primarch, Magnus can cast his psychic powers just fine, but he can't harm the SoS directly with them. He throws a pile of dead TS and marines at the SoS and kills a bunch with it. I imagine it's not much different for the Emperor
>>
One small thing about the Lion that I thought was kind of neat: every other primarch refers to his legionaries as his "sons", but the Lion calls them his "little brothers". I thought that was a nice touch, given his origins in a knightly order, and perhaps shows he's not the social outcast he's sometimes implied to be.
>>
>>52286793
I never understood how a knight can target multiple targets with all its weapons. It's only got one pilot and I don't know how sophisticated its targeting systems are. Feels weird for it to bombard distant targets with missiles, hammer some unit with a battle cannon, BRRRRT some light vehicles, pepper an infantry squad with a heavy stubber, flame a unit next to it and use a meltagun on their transport. All at the same time.
>>
>>52287376
Yeah, I agree. It's especially weird when a tank with one crewman for each weapon can only shoot a single target.
>>
> WS 4 S4 I4 AP3 Fearless troop with Infiltrate or Crusader for 12pts/model

Aren't they pretty decent even without anti-Psyker stuff?
>>
>>52287397
While another tank with one (or more) crew per weapon CAN target multiple targets.

They should make a rule similar to the PotMS that lets a unit split their fire even among two targets (but no additional weapon at full BS type stuff). Hell, they could even use that to give attack bikes the ability to fire their TL bolters and heavy weapon without silly "1 weapon per rider on the bike," because that's just asking to be abused.

Because it starts drama.
This site works on an anonymous system. You belong by being part of the mass. The unknown, unseen mass.

Trying to give yourself a name to be recognised is like those girls that say the are girls because deep down they want recognition. It's the internet, I don't give a shi if you have tits or that your name is Matt.
And knowing who you talk to ALWAYS end up in drama sooner or later.
Look up some /vg/ treads for example.

In short, Tripfags are needy drama queen that want to get a cult of personnality (barring a few exceptions like a writefag/drawfag posting his work, or Duke for Chapter master) and are therefore in exact opposition to the very essence of 4chan.

Which book for the rules for Knight armies ?
>>
>>52287579
I feel physically ill seeing that many Knights. What is it, Terryn, Zhao Akkad, dunno the purple
>>
>>52287579
Remember when this was a MINIature game? Knight armies were a mistake.
>>
>>52280280
Meta reason? So the Blood Angels can fight Tyranids. Lore reason? I think Baal was just on the way to wherever they are going
>>
>>52287579
How do you fucking play against that kind of army with standard Legion stuff?

Sometimes I wonder if Legion armies are weakest of all 30k armies. Maybe bit better than Militia, but still.
>>
>>52287300
Huh, thats pretty cool. Haven't read his books yet, how does he relate to them in story?
>>
>>52287693
That display has what, 28 models for over 10,000 points ?

I think you'll get enough support squads with meltas for over fucking 10,000 points.

What would be the canon implications and effects of our being revealed that the Sanguinor is the manifestation of the Imperium's faith as an actual angel and Sanguinius reborn?
>>
>>52287745
wrong thread.

Raven Guard work well with them in a recon company or several other RoW, considering their home orbits a forge world they have exclusive access to. As far as tactics the mech forces work well as a line anchor while the majority of the force infiltrates, and having easy access to augury scanners stops an opponent who also has infiltrators from putting an unpleasant squeeze on your deployment options should you lose an infiltrate roll-off

HJOLDA

SO YOU BE SAYIN

New thread, then?
>>
>>52287579
I really like that purple knight, what household is he in?
>>
>>52288910
House Dildronanis.
>>
>>52287579
I like to imagine one knight getting blown up, and the Catastrophic Explosion starting a chain reaction that ends with every single knight going boom.
>>
>>52287693

Drop pods and melta. No, really.

A standard 3000 point knight list will have like 6-7 Knights and maybe 2 of them score. Just drop something with melta near them and watch them topple.

Leviathans are your friend. Medusas also get around ion shields.

Knight lists are skewy as fuck and aren't fun to play against with a casual all comers list but they aren't invincible

For 10,000 points you can take multiple warlords to deal with that many Knights.
>>
just to mak sure, there is no way to give TS tactical squads psychic powers right?
>>
>>52289437
No. You don't want to be running tac squads in a TS list anyway.
>>
>>52289474
i like tacticals,but thank you
>>
>>52289474
I dunno, corvidae cult arcana makes them pretty decent.
>>
>>52289522

Yeah but what are you gonna do for a shooty warlord?
>>
>>52289551
Ahrihman? You just need some kind of anti melee and anti drop pod buffer like some sekhmets and mortis dreads and you are pretty set.
>>
>>52289508
>>52289522
Yeah, but they're still just tacs.
If you want shooty troops choice, take Ahriman and run vets, who have psychic powers.

If you don't want to do that, shove in some cheap corvidae support squads. A rotor cannon squad is even fluffy.
