The Marines Malevolent or the Iron Hands.

Marines Malevolent by just rolling with it. The world sucks, so what? Marines Malevolent are just going to make it better… for themselves.

Iron Hands because the world sucks, everything sucks, you suck, you all suck, those guardsmen sucked so they killed them for sucking so hard, flesh sucks so they removed it with cyborg bits, you all suck.

Allow orks to take def dreads in squads of 3 like sm.

Give orks not shitty formations that allow for more infiltrating/outflank/ds with charging on the same turn they arrive.

Give orks army wide rule which allows reroll of all failed to hit rolls for one turn per game.

Hot-shot lasguns become Assault 2

Sergeants can take HS lasguns

Ten-man squads can take three special weapons

Base Ld increased to 8, 9 for Tempestors, 10 for Tempestor Prime (they're from the same schools as Sisters and Commissars...but Ld 7?)

Make Tempestor Prime roughly equivilent to a Lord Commissar

Unit gets Precision Shots like Skitarii Rangers

Or just take a (big) chunk out of their points cost. Plus their weapon upgrades are ludicrously expensive.
>>
>>52244491
This is probably accurate because rise of the primarch mentions how the custodes are so painfully woke they just ignore most of the Galaxy shattering things they hear

>it also has a slight implication they can understand binary, which is pretty cool unless it was an authors mistake

You could cut points by making deep strike a payable upgrade instead of including it in the base cost.

Probably the SoS.

When various Imperials file past the Emperor on the Golden Throne in Master of Mankind, everyone sees different shit from a huge golden demi-god, a shining human figure of pure light or a glorious machine-god etc etc

>>
>>52244485
I know, I have it open, but stuff from like Fall of Cadia (Celestine rules) and Imperial Agents are something I would have to dig around for.

>>52244422
Storm of Iron is good. It's about Iron Warriors besieging an Imperial fortress, with equal screen time for both sides. Good back and forth combat.

ADB (the author you're currently reading) is usually pretty good, though his 30k novels are more polarizing.

A lot of people love the Gaunt's Ghosts books. They're about a light infantry/scouting Imperial Guard regiment. Personally I find the books to be hit and miss, but even I can admit that the better ones are worth reading the lesser ones to get to. Good action, characters, and plots. Usually.

I love the Ciaphas Cain series, though they do tend to follow roughly the same plot for each book. With that in mind, I wouldn't suggest binge reading the whole series.
They're about as far away from the Night Lords books as you can get, however, since they're rather comedic and light-hearted. If you've ever seen Blackadder Season 4, it's a lot like that. But mixed with Flashman.
It's funny, has good characters, an interesting narrative (that tends to get repeated), and is great light reading.

The William King Space Wolf novels are great if you're looking for a swashbuckling adventure.

The best Black Library novels I've read are actually from Warhammer Fantasy: The Ambassador and Ursun's Teeth.
They're legitimately good novels, not just "good for warhammer."

Stay the fuck away from Jonathan Green, the author or Iron Hands. Worst published book I've ever read. Even CS Goto is better.
>>
>>52244573
You can't "learn" binary, it takes specialist implants or a translator device of some kind. My bet is that they have the latter in their armour, since they're meant to be able to protect from subterfuge as well as outright battle, and it's ceratinly fancy enough.

Alternate formats and other GW games...they're fine. I know orks are like space marines in blood bowl and the hor kill team everybody uses has them fairly well balanced. Waiting to see what sw Armageddon does to them.

In 40k...over costing and underperforming in the current meta is the big problem right now so a lot of tables I play on just give them 10-25% more points to add to their lists.

Nids aren't as shit as people say they are. Granted you have to cheese out a flying circus to make them work so they only have 1 viable list but they at least are playable.

Orks on the other hand are unplayable regardless of the format. Even going on extra dickery lenghts like abusing grots size to make them untargetable behind an ADL won't save you from a massive ass beating as an ork player.

Maybe 8th edition will change something about that if they touch how moral and close combat work but for now it's just a dead faction at this point.

It's the retarded gorilla pose that ruins it for me.

My favourite depictions of Orks is from Deff Skwadron, where they're broad and their shoulders are hunched, but still stand upright without the stupid twerking pose.

Big ears are a plus for me too, gives their faces more character beyond GIANT TUSKS and reminds me of Gremlins, which fits their fluff well.

Basically I love the Snikrot model; >>52244310 and want the entire Ork range to look more like that.

Tau aren't inherently WAAC as /40kg/ would have you believe, they're just a favourite of fags who exploit poor balance in their list to go full on WAAC i.e. spamming Riptides because they're under-costed compared to the effect they have on the table.

Like Eldar, it's totally possible to have a Tau army that is fun to play both with and against.

When did the Emperor find time to hand-make 10,000 Custodes?

Like, he's a really busy guy. And it says in inferno he had four when he was first spotted, 30 a little later, a few hundred at the end of the unification wars, then ten thousand by the time of the heresy.

Terminators don't fit in drop pods, but have deep strike. Teleport homers are the termi-specific anti-scatter device.
>>
>>52245555

>>
>>52245583
Terminators can totally fit in drop pods. There's no restriction on bulk, and 5 of them can just squeeze in.

There's just usually not much reason to do so since they can deep strike anyway.

Although with the way the 7th Ed allies work you could take a cheap formation for a relic lord and mix him in with the rest of your dudes

Dedicated Transport =/= Transport Vehicles.

You can buy a Fast Attack Drop Pod and stuff 5 Terminators in it.
>>
>>52245801
You can't with that formation, because you have no fast attack slots, but if you were using a cad, you could use your fa slots for pods and put termies in them.

Termies can't take them as dedicated, but that doesn't mean they can't use them.
>>
>>52245597
With the new different types you can have types of terminators for different roles with different rules
So catpahracti are extra tough, Tartarus have volkite and can other weird weapon combos indomitus (space hulk termi) have in built deep strike and can do th/ss and other stuff

I only have a few pages of the 7th edition rules left to read.

I was looking at ordering a set of basic troops for either an undecided CSM warband or Necrons just to try my hand at painting, which is most appealing aspect to me, and because it seems I'll always need some troops.

Orks are only viable in smaller games. Anything above 1000 points, you need to start giving the orks a handicap. Like say anything short of space marines but above Nids(no handicap required for nid players lol), you need a 10% handicap. The ork player gets 10% more points to play with, like 1100 points in a 1000 game.

Against Space marines and up, you need a 25% or even 30% handicap, although you probably need to go just a bit higher to 35% if it's tournament space marines.

And for Eldar, orks need a 50% handicap.

I play space marines, and every time I play against orks, I give them a choice of either running the Space 0Din fandex(which bumps orks up the tier-scale to be somewhere on par with non-gladius space marines), or run a 30% handicap. It's not fun for me to mindlessly table orks, and the space 0din 'dex evens things out so I can actually have a challenging game. I don't play competitive lists(my typical army is shitloads of dreadnoughts, scouts, and sternguard vets that aren't in drop pods), but I'm a solid player.

The only guidelines are to look on it and if it says: "warning: bonds skin - soak skin in acetone and rip off outer layer to fix, do not breathe fumes, do not put in eyes because lol did you read the first warning."

You also have to check for what materials it bonds because something which works wonders on plastics may slide off metal or give a meh bond on resin.

You're making no damn sense, frankly. I play 15 armies and the only time I've ever broken a part off a completed model was to replace an empty arm on a Necron Lord with one holding a shield.
>>
>>52246402
I don't tend to use magnets on models directly, its expensive to buy small enough magnets, even on bigger stuff like termiators. I like using them on vehicles though. I have 5 Valkyries, and 5 vendettas- but only five models. Ive got a shadowsword and a banehammer, but only one superheavy tank.

Magnetizing vehicle weapons also makes weapon destroyed result much easier to mark.

This is straight up a bad thing. If you make a large model from plastic, you can pose the legs by swiftly and deftly gluing them then pulling them into position on the base for an ideal no-fuss pose.

Large forge world model? Hope you like painstaking planning then still being forced to compromise a bit because every joint seals into position as you go along before you can glue the next.
>>
>>52246509
I used to contemplate doing that specifically to add or remove jump packs/standard back packs. I can see doing it on squad sergeants for switching between stuff like power weapons or plasma pistols I guess. Still, I come from a guard perspective so I always imagine what it would be like to do that every game to 200 models and decide to just glue it, instead.

Just back back from my first tournament. It was meant to be casual and it was at 1250 points; I think I heard someone there call it a soft tourney (as opposed to hardcore). I brought my Orks.

It was a blast! There were 6 other Ork players and about 18 total. I was able to fight two other armies I've never fought before (Necron, Ork mirror, then Salamanders) and even though I got the tar beaten out of me I had a ton of fun. There was a $10 entry fee but the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and last all got there money back (I was last) and everyone that participated got 20% off that day. I was able to pick up the tactical+drop pod box and a box of assault marines.

It just doesn't feel right to mix gods. Slaanesh is by far my favorite, my fantasy warriors only ended up Khorne because I made the mistake of painting them red and gold. Id say they weren't khornate, and Id get corrected. I just gave in and made the army mono-khorne eventually. He's my 2nd favorite chaos god anyways I cared little.

Didnt make the same mistake with my bright pink 40k chaos army.
Also wait for Fulgrim to come out, he killed Girlyman once, he can do it again. In fact, I wouldnt at all shocked if following Girlyman killing Abby, GS4 comes out and has Fulgrim kill Girlyman. Would definetly stop any sort of revolution within in the Imperium and keep the story nice and stagnant, especially now that guillimarines have been debunked it seems possible.

On the tabletop though it depends if they make him 2+ or 3+. Im guessing 2+, so a combination of meltaguns and daemonettes. If he's only a 3+ though Ill bring the noise with some str9 rending blastmasters.

I disagree, I did that conversion a few years ago with a techpriest pilot. It looked good.
>>
How often do you use Special Characters in your army lists? I used to hate using them because 40k is about Your Dudes, but fuck if I don't love the fluff and lore behind all of the Blood Angel special characters.
>>
what does adeptus even mean
>>

the group I used to play with straight-up banned special characters from our games
>>
>>52248022
Essentially never.
Sometimes Ill use them to try them out, but Ive never had one in a tournament list. I play Chaos, so there aren't any characters that arent a joke.
>>
>>52247491
do you just not understand what formations are or what?
>>
>>52247988
It would have been fine if they had a power armoured grey knight in a cockpit. Power armor marines pilot other vehicles, and it makes far more sense to build your giant robot so it protects the pilot instead of using the even more rare personal armor to ensure he stays safe.

Every Dreadknight pilot needs a suit of terminator armor, which is one less terminator the Grey knights can field. That's actually a legitimate concern for scarcity, especially when suits of power armor are cheap as chips by comparison and they could just stick some dreadnought plates over their invention anyway.

>theres nothing there when they try and look at their soul which is scary
>disrupts their psychic power which is also scary because they may not even know what it's like without them
>it's literally painful for them to be really close to one
>blanks have this aura that makes everyone uncomfortable around them, I'd with psykers it's amplified, it would probably feel like thousands of spiders were on you or something
>>
>>52248034
Back in my day using them at all required permission from your opponent.
>>
>>52248059
Feel free to read the rulebook then.

>>52248026
Stop asking stupid questions. That's like asking "what does jedi even mean". It's a fantasy game, it has made up words/latin words that are only used because they sound cool.
>>
>>52245809
I actually managed to impress my peers by getting a decently consistent coat on my tanks that WASN'T airbrushed. Which should say a lot about how many people use them to attain a good paintjob.
>>
>>52248021
No, it didn't and everyone told you the same.
>>
>>52248052
Do you even grey knight lore m8?

There's a suit of termie armour for every grey knight in the chapter just about, they live next to mars and have their own personal forge moon that cranks their shit out

Don't forget they are da best of da best and get priority on all things

Wasn't there that one battle where they were short on Terminator armor, called in a favor from a dozen extra chapters to borrow theirs, and then the enemy surrendered in minutes because they didn't repaint the armor, so they assumed they were fighting a dozen marine chapters?

Culexus Assassins are Blanks, and the model for them are male
>>
>>52248170
I suggest you read the part where it tells you what a formation is and how to use them in armies. It's surprisingly relevant.
>>
>>52248170
I'll help you in the non dick way, go to the index, look up detachments or formations, go to that page, read it and learn

Sisters of Silence are only all-female because GW cannot into original concepts and needed to rip the Fish-Speakers wholesale out of Dune in the same way they did 90% of the rest of the setting.

Jurgen from Ciaphas Cain novels is a blank, Culexus are usually depicted as male too.

So I bought my first units for my iron warriors army because I love them and don't give a shit about if their rules are bad or not. I was wondering what a good elite choice would be for me to get next? Was thinking terminators but they dont really fit what I'm going for. I was thinking a Helbrute but I don't really know

Unforunately they can't eat through Space Marine toughness. Enjoy your 5+ to wound. And 9" Rapid Fire range.

Bump their leadership and WS by 1 point. Let them take an extra special weapon so they're not worse than fucking veterans.

Give their vox's 24" range for giving/receiving orders so they can actually stand a chance of being able to take orders after deep striking.

Are Custodian Guard or SoS worth taking in any 2000 point army? I was liking the look of them and thinking of taking a few with my Skitarii for fun, but they seem way too expensive for their purpose.
>>
>>52248472
Fortunately I'm pureguard. :P

>>52248022
Depends on how special they are.
Guys like Darkstrider or the FW Tau Commanders are generic enough to justify them being a generic Your Guy.

Could I have an allied detachment of greyfax + 5 Sisters of silence?

Demolition claw, guy. They are fun and can actually do quite well. I manage to Allahu Akbar a wraithknight from the table edge. Just go full retard and zoom around chucking s8 ap2 blasts and running over shit with drill-rams. I've never not had fun with demolition claws.

Pic related, everyone nearby quite enjoyed the eldar player's face.
