I want to try and convince a friend to play a phat point game. Mainly so I can field a bunch of my favourite models and try and pull off my dream play of turning my warlord into a Daemon prince affording me a prince and two bloodthirsters with one use of the 7 point ability

This is what I can smash together out of what I have while still being within a sorta reasonable point value. Does this look shitty enough to play and be ashamed of myself for being dumb? Tottoaly oregano post not repeated from last fred

I hope the BigMarines actually mechanically represent the fact that Astartes are supposed to be peerless gods of war who can conquer an entire planet with 1000 men. Right now they're only slightly better guardsmen if you go by stats. Elite armies ftw.

Depends on whether or not the numarines end up being, well, numarines. There still remains the possibility that they're just marines with the newest equipment. If this ends up being the case, as a BT player I'll definitely be a bit frustrated, because I doubt they'll have BT bits for them, and everything about the aesthetic seems to be austere and modern, which is the opposite of the Templars' style.

If you knew anything about AoS you'd know that they are anything but static. There are numerous spells and abilities and weapons that affect hit/wound rolls as well as saves.

The rend mechanic is one of the best design changes ever. If incorporated into 40k, it would make armor saves relevant again.

As per recommendation reposting

Can someone help me in a direction to go with chaos? I have one flaming chariot built, one not. I have a box of rubrics, two boxes of the tzangores, and the chaos stuff from dark vengeance. I'm thinking of a way to use as much as I have without buying a shit load of more models. It's doesn't have to be great just the best of what I can do. I am brand new to chaos and got all of this as a gift.

Thanks in advance

Hey /40k/ same anon from a few weeks ago who played his Blood Angels army against that Tau player who kept eating Kraft Singles. Got a new story about him from today.

So I went to my flgs with a 1000 point list, it was pretty fluffy but my main goal was to play my new Baal Pred and try and find a use for it. The Tau player was there (We'll call him Cheesy for now) and yet again, had another package of Kraft Singles with him that he would unwrap and eat every few minutes. Now from the past few weeks I heard some storys about him from other players (I'm still new with this group of people) and most of which confirmed that very few people liked him but he was harmless though a bit of a dick as he always enjoyed using the same Tau tatics, "move very little but shoot a lot." He asked if I wanted to play him today and I asked to see his list first. Surprise surprise, same list he beat me with last time, drone shields and fuck ton ignore cover. I declined, just saying that most my list would get wiped off the table turn 1 and that I was mostly playing today just to experiment. He gave me this really creepy grin and said "Scared I'm gonna beat you again?" It was about that time I could smell him, he must of hit a bong before he arrived cause he reeked of pot, and as we finished talking he pulled out another Kraft Single.

Shortly after I found an Ork player to match with, new like me and had a close but fun match, him beating me by a couple of points. Meanwhile Cheesy was matched with an Eldar player... he wasn't having as much fun. Every once and awhile he would yell so loud in frustration do to poor dice rolls. This happened multiple times before the organizer for our games asked Cheesy to keep it down and to not curse so much as kids frequent this shop. I will never forget what happened next.

Continuing...

Cheesy glared at our organizer before literally REEEEing at the top of his lungs. It was hard to make out most of what he said cause he was sorta blabbering like Don Vito from Viva La Bam. Which surprised most people I guess cause as far as everyone knew he was not Italian, we all attributed it to his obesity and perhaps autism. What I did manage to make out was this. "Tell me to fucking calm down!? Why the fuck do we even let Eldar trash play here when all they bring is their OP cheese lists!"

That's when the Eldar player literally spoke up. "Coming from the Tau player that literally eats cheese as he tries to table newbies by turn 2." Cheesy went into this fit of rage and lunged at the guy from across the table, crushing a few of the miniatures under him. What he forgot about was most of these tables are flimsy as fuck, so as soon as he applied a bit of pressure the whole thing came collapsing down, him as well to the floor. Before he could get back up the Organizer and a few other people pinned him while the Eldar player freaked the fuck out cause a couple hundred dollars of his miniatures either broke on the floor or was now under this fat, smelly guy. That's when the store owner came in and helped kick Cheesy out of his shop, while a few other guys collected up his Tau pieces to send of. Eldar player went off to press charges.

Nothing else happened besides talking about the events. And now Cheesy is banned from the store. I'm kinda upset by that cause that was one of the most entertaining things I ever seen. RIP Cheesy.

Also I found a use for my Baal Pred to crack open transports with his Assault Cannon, so I guess there is that.
>>
>>52127404
I don't know shit about AoS, but i'm assuming that it works by "lowering" armor save? That would be pretty awesome.

It surprising how little ways there is of lowering armor in 40k. Although, given the abundance of low AP, that would essentially be the same as removing it.

I think you'll find TheDarkCity serves for the latter as well.

No joke this is some guys signature:

"Because people get offended when you tell them your credentials in the middle of a debate, I'm listing them here:
I'm a genius with around 150 IQ.(Not an internet test. Rolling Eyes )
Roughly 90% wins in 40k
Top 20% of every major GT entered, including the LVO and Adepticon
I can look at 2 units w/ their special rules and tell you which one is better in X circumstance without doing math.
I hope these things help you to understand me as a person, so that I don't come across as arrogant when I talk to you. I'm not normal. The difference between my IQ and the average person is greater than the difference between the average person and someone who is mentally retarded. Imagine everyone around you being very slow to understand, if at all, of all of the things you instantly understand. It makes interaction difficult. People take offense easily. I mean no offense. Please forgive me."

if you mean by physically transport and not metal boxes I (tau player, though not a cheesemeister) magnetised my riptide and my ghostkeel at the hip as well as weapons and any other bits that were sticking out too much, allows for me to pose (kind of) while saving me space. As fo hordes I can't help you there since I don't have any.
For my valks (I also play guard) I magnetised the wings and the rudder section as well.

I use armytransport brand bag and pluck foam.

An ex girlfriend of mine actually had a neat method for her deldar. Cut circles from magnetic sheets and glued them to the bottom of bases, then put the miniatures in a metal toolbox. Great for gribbly, spiky gits.
>>
>>52128449
I do like the pistol pose(reminiscent of a JoJo style pose), but with the other 4 arms it makes it REALLY busy. The main concern I have is how hard it'll be to paint between all those arms. The Archon model as a base is an interesting choice, but that's not to say that there aren't Haemonculi that like to be well armored(in Dark Eldar terms).

If he actually was that smart, he wouldn't be complaining about how it was difficult to understand people. He would be complaining about how boring it is to do seemingly normal things. People with 150+ IQ's tend to suffer from a problem called Ennui, because their extreme intelligence makes everything too easy. And when everything is too easy, it becomes boring, which in turn makes it difficult.

Like even watching 'exciting action movies' is difficult because you can't watch it without instantly obtaining an in-depth understanding of the entire plot. Nothing will surprise you, nothing comes out of left field. Even all of the fight sequences will just seem totally mundane, because you understand exactly why every little movement is made, moments before it happens.

> Why play a game of chess when you can beat them 6 turns in advance?
> Why should I do my math homework when it takes me all of 3 seconds to do each problem?
> Why should I play these video games, when I can just generate an entire minecraft world in my head?
> Why should I eat this fancy food, when I already know how it tastes?
> What's the point in talking to people when I already know what they're going to say?
> Why should I read this book when I already know the entire plot just 10 pages in?
>>

You'd still have oldmarines and oldsisters, but Numarines would be egalitarian.
>>
>>52128720
I'm not. Chaos tend to need metal boxes to hide in, Skitarii get dunestrider and are a little more economic in that sense. They also hold objectives exceptionally well. You should find a comp of vanguard/rangers you're happy with that fills all the bases your knights aren't covering, but still has some redundancies in place for the moment one of them gets capped. I'm a proponent of the idea that you should play what you like though, so if you prefer the chaos aesthetic go for that.

This fucking guy, once chided me for asking a question when i was new to the army.

I asked if 4 venoms and 4 raiders was enough to be effective at 2000pts or if I needed more regular skimmers.

He said nah take just venoms (boring as fuck), when I said "well thats kind of boring but I'll think about it, take a mix"

He then ranted about how i had wasted his time and that he had given his time for free and that usually people had to pay for it (hes a lawyer) So I should take his advice.

I naturally told him to Fuck off. He then continued bitching at me for 3-4 posts. I had unsubbed from the thread, but someone tagged me back in so then I came back and read the shit he had said about me and new players like me. told him exactly what I thought of him.

He then sent me some very condescending PMs basically demanding that I apologize. Ignored him and he must have stopped wasting his precious time because he doesn't bug me anymore.

Then had about 4 people tell him he was an idiot and apologize to me and said they were not all like that. I got the impression it wasn't the first time.

What a twat. I can't tell if he is just delusional, or actually has a mental condition like Autism.

I considered saying something last night, but then I thought, "What if starting a thread with a meme image sets the tone? What if beginning with memes leads to a higher garbage content?" So I refrained.

Yet I was unable to monitor the experiment. Has this comfy conformity improved post content or lead to a reduction in shitposting and an increase in quality discussion?

What I'm primarily worried about is the fact that the skitarii list has knights of varying speeds, the cerastus being in danger of drop pods/screening with my horde of skitarii far behind. With the chaos knights they can double up on weapons and just stand there without exposing 3 flanks where the ion shield isn't present. Don't take me defending the chaos variant as being biased either, I'm just confused really. I can see skitarii being better objective holders with far superior weapon choices aside from lascannon havocs or oblits

It's like, my dog enjoys chewing on sticks. That's in her intellectual range. I'd be bored with chewing sticks pretty quickly because I am a human.

Being smart means you probably have interests like music or some kind of art that is more than "lol fill in the colors of the space marine with yellow then was with dark yellow then highlight with bright yellow".

To be honest, if they found a lore explanation for why the Imperium can suddenly make female muhreens when they couldn't in previous editions, I wouldn't care if female heads appeared on the sprues.

If these Numarine rumours hold water, Cawl being able to figure out how to make gene-seed take to female candidates would be fine by me, it'd double their recruiting figures overnight so there'd be a practical reason to do it in-universe.

Just going 'oh they could always do it' as a straight retcon would be lazy tho.

>if they found a lore explanation for why the Imperium can suddenly make female muhreens when they couldn't in previous editions, I wouldn't care if female heads appeared on the sprues.

Basically this. I don't object to female Marines because I dislike the idea, I object to them because the fluff, at current, says it can't happen. If these nuMarines are produced using different techniques, then fine.

Though it does raise the question as to why Caul and Guilliman are able to produce more, better super-soldiers than the Emperor himself.
>>

>Though it does raise the question as to why Caul and Guilliman are able to produce more, better super-soldiers than the Emperor himself.

Cawl, though not as Ubermensch as the Emperor, is still a pure scientist at heart with a strict leaning to mental augmentation and theoretical assesment, I strongly doubt that even the Emperor himself was that much above Belsarius at this state (people keep forgetting that the Emperor had scientists working with him on the Primarchs and Astartes engrams, he didn't do it all himself), and the Archmagos has had a lot longer to mull over the specifics, research takes time and, typically, more research time dedicated will yield more results.
>>
>>52129330

I'm not the guy you've been arguing with and I honestly have no stake in this argument. I don't know what my IQ is. I don't really care either. I do well for myself and that's all that really matters. I don't need to shore up my insecurities by pointing at a number or tearing others down on the internet.

I was merely attempting to point out that you are making a broad generalization with little to back it up beyond your own assumptions. Having an interest in music is no more inherently intelligent that having an interest in war gaming is unintelligent.

I understand you are attempting to poke at the insecure and provoke them into responding to you. There are a lot of people in the hobby who are not necessarily well adjusted, and many of those hide their insecurities by proclaiming their intellectual superiority. I assume you take offense to this, or at least I hope you do, because if you are doing this for no other reason than to irritate them then you are an asshole.

Even if you are doing this because they irritate you it's still pointless to argue about this and all you are doing is inviting contention into the thread and generally detracting from the possibility of good productive conversation.

I humbly request that you let it drop. There is nothing to be gained by provoking the other anons in this thread.

Not sure how this would help, Tau are still firmly below Great Crusade era CultMech in terms of general technological ability, even with their rapid advancement. It'd definitely help the current AdMech, as their abilities fluctuate wildly with a lot of stuff being better and a lot of stuff being worse than Blueberry equivalents, but the Emperor probably had access to better lab-tech than the Tau could pull out for now.

I also don't know why it's relevant in a discussion about modern 40k. The mean Imperium tech level is still advanced in some areas, like servitor manufacture, but is clearly well behind in other areas.

I also think it's telling that the highest ranking technician in the Imperium is from before all the the ceremony and worship got in the way of actual ability. Cawl was probably just above average, but every new kid since then has been a stone cold idiot and all the people with better ability died for some reason.

>Where exactly is this said? I keep seeing it said that the average tau Tech level is far below the HH tech level. I see it said all the time.

It's never said explicitly, because the two haven't been compared in any known capacity yet, but what we do know is the modern AdMech when they actually pull out their good stuff can match the Tau technologically (though the 'fluctuating ability' level rule still applies) and the Great Crusade CultMech were better in virtually every way. Whether Legion equipment is on the same level as Tau equipment is up for debate, but remember that even in the GC the CultMech's average tech-level was leagues above everyone else's, including the Astartes.

>I also think it's telling that the highest ranking technician in the Imperium is from before all the the ceremony and worship got in the way of actual ability.

The AdMech has always been about ritual, even in the days of the CultMech, and all the rituals have a rote of truth to them, the idea that the AdMech just 'prays to make it work' is a meme for anything that's not really advanced Archaeotech or an Adept who's still to earn an actual place in the Martian Priesthood. That being said, the rituals have been polluted, much like everything else by the decay of technology, but the actual Magi are still geniuses, they're just second-hand taught geniuses that have to deal with the crumbling knowledge of a hyper-advanced empire with worse tools, some of which don't work exactly as they're supposed to.

Take the lance if you really must enjoy the luxury of I5, otherwise go with an axe. If you do take the lance, don't go charging shit you can't put down on the charge, otherwise you're literally just a Tactical squad in combat after the first round and that won't generally end well.
>>
>>52129734
that last valk has a lascannon, 2 mrp and 2 heavy bolters.
It should only have a lascannon and the hellstrike missiles, the other 2 weapons are redundant.
also isn't there a formation for airborne scions in valks?
>>
>>52129724

No, it's a stepping stone in the move away from a dystopia and towards something that in trying to appeal to everyone appeals to no one.

I don't even care anymore. I'm getting a new copy of the 7th edition rulebook and bunkering up. AoE can fuck off.
>>
>>52129810
Not him but with 3 Knights you can get formation bonuses. With one you get a single knight which makes for a good bullet sponge.

2 Knights generally takes up too much of your army to leave you with anything that isn't cad-tax fodder.
>>
>>52129855
>7E

May aswell go back even further to when the game wasn't a bloated price of shit with broken ass formations.
>>
>>52129860
>Renegade Knights
>formation bonuses
>2 Knights is never a good idea
>he doesn't know about WarConvo before Cawl shook it up again
>>
>>52129810
1 is a bit of a point sink but you have a bulk of the rest of your main force if it gets taken out. Two knights forces you to split your forces even further and when one knight falls you have a gimped CAD and a lone knight. Three knights and your opponent will have to tailor their list with as many drop pods/outflank/infiltrate as they can while the allied force for the knight fills gaps (hopefully) should a knight fall.
>>
>>52129846
Yeah, but I can't fit it into 1500pts because it requires three units of scions, a commissar and four valkyries.
>>
>>52129734
for reason I feel like you are going to be tabled on some bad reserve rolls
>>
When you destroy a unit with a ynnari unit in combat you can soulburst and charge a new unit, however you are stuck at the last used initiative. This typically means that units that have attacked already can no longer attack. If you were to charge the new unit though cover without assault grenades or have a second weapon that hits at a lower initiative (say an autarch with both a laser lance and a power axe) Would you be able to attack a second time, now in a new combat, at I1?
>>
>>52129886

Well I think 7th had good core rules. What ruins it is formations (as you said), flyers and not limiting LoW to Apocalypse type games.

If you go back to the 1 HQ and 2 Troops you will find the game is much better.

I may end up going further back but unlike Fantasy no single edition of 40K is a fan favourite for Oldhammer.
>>
>>52129919
Fair.
No formations unless Harlequins I guess unless you let Ynnari exist too.
>>
>>52129919

What is "the Assault Phase" for 400, Trebek?
>>
>>52129919
Remember when everyone was flipping their shit over unbound? And then everyone realized how awful formations were? I kinda think unbound could be fun with some sort of limitations...
>>
>>52129841
That looks kinda neat. 40k should have a unit like that.
>>
>>52129916

Very interesting conundrum - I ultimately think you'd be correct, if you charged through cover and were forced to strike at I1 you'd start at say I5 and work your way down.
>>
>>52129949

What is inherently wrong in the assault core rules?

What fucks assault is the formations that allow a million fucking re-rolls to shooting and certain army books like Tau and Eldar, also people in my experience never use enough terrain.
>>
>>52129905
One valk from imperial agents with the officer of the fleet would solve this. 25 pts.
>>
>>52130001

>>52129916
Yes. Its a brand new combat for that unit, but at a different initiative step.
>>
>>52130017

I said core rules. Have you not read my post?

I would be using 7th edition with no formations, no LoW and some units in ARMY BOOKS (ie. not the core rules) would have to be 0-1.

I have a 1500 list put together for a sternhammer force, and I am pretty happy with it. However I haven't played a game yet and really have no idea how to do the strategic parts.

What I mean is, when should I dive my assault marines into another enemy unit? When should I drop in my dreadnought, and what should it go after? What should I focus my centurions on? Etcetera.

My game plan was to combat squad my tactical squads, park the heavy bolter half on objectives and use the other 3 squads to go after enemies they are tailored to with plas/flamer.

Does anyone have any tips for what my game plan should be?

So what's a good loadout for Cypher and a full squad of Fallen?

Cypher 190 pt

Fallen Squad of 10 w/ a Fallen Champion with 2 Lightning claws; 3 Melta Guns, and 2 Powerfists 310pt

500 points for a good mobile TEQ and squad killer seems fluffy and Distraction Carnifex as Fuck.
>>
>>52130038
>random charge ranges
>overwatch
>buffs to shooting
>increased difficult terrain penalty
These are all part of the core rules. The rest of my list highlights how the current state of the game compounds these core issues.

>>52130053
It was the same in 6th. In 5th your charge range was a static 6" and difficult terrain forced you to roll 2d6 in a similar way to how you do now. It could fuck you but you had a chance of rolling a 6 and not giving a shit, whereas now it's a flat -2" on top of you random ass range.
>>
>>52130065

Shooting at initiative 1 is hardly game breaking just before a charge.

>>52130085

The formations found in each codex are not core rules.
>>
>>52130001
Why the fuck can a unit run, but not charge?
You're telling me that a Space Marine can blast the guy in front of him with his Heavy Bolter, and then charge to melee him, but he can't elect to prioritize closing the distance instead of shooting so he can have a proper charge?

And don't get me fucking started on the to-hit table...A pack of bumbling Guardsmen probably has a better chance of killing Lelith Hesperax, one of the best close-combat fighters in the galaxy, than they do a Space Marine of High Office (Like a Chapter Master or something) simply because if they manage to roll enough 5's then 4's to overwhelm her player's dice roll probability of making enough saves.

And then on the flip side, Lelith, being one of the best fighters in the galaxy still hit's on 3's as if she had 2 Weapon Skill over the Guardsmen, basically making her WS9 nothing more than intimidating number that serves no purpose in showing her prowess over some regular humans.
>>
>>52130109

Roger that - I was just checking that I hadn't gone insane, I remember the switch from 5th to 6th but I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what changed in 6th to 7th.
>>
>>52130017
The main issue for me is that they keep coming out with bigger and badder guns for things, keep making them faster and more survivable and never doing the same for CC armies.

Things like Khorne Berzerkers need universal FNP and the ability to run and charge or charge out of any transport. Not to mention the WS to hit nerf which I am salty about to this day.

The fixed to hit in AoS is actually not that different from the WS chart as it exists currently. You probably don't care because you're just spouting memes but if you actually look at it the fixed to hit value isn't that big a change.

It's also completely illegal because you can't actually take that many Lascannons in a C:SM squad. It also gets turbofucked by any lack of split-fire and the fact that it's blobs of marines, so really it's actually terrible.
>>
>>52130203

that one was actually a buff to all the non-fleet combat troops

2D6" > 6" flat, even if it's more random. It's the guys who got 6+D6" that were hurt by the change.

>increased difficult terrain penalty
-2" to your charge distance is much better (and less random) than the old system of 2D6, pick the highest.

The rest of the stuff you're right on, but those two points are ways in which charging was made less horrible.
>>
I haven't played since 5th and can't quite make sense of the new detachment rules. Can someone explain it to me like I was retarded?

Because Abaddon is too proud to just destroy it and leave.

He could have done that at any point with his fleet.

He went into the cave to: Kill Celestine, Creed and the defenders in there, because the guy he sent before fucked it up and got shanked.

The defenders end up doing more than expected in the fight back, so Abaddon has them crash the huge chunks of the Blackstone Fortress the defenders destroyed into Cadia.
