One of the Feifs of one of the major human empire is primarily populated by muscly beefcake Fabio-esque fishermen, with the women holding most of the political/cultural leadership due to a cultural belief/religious artifact built around the division of gender roles based on the concept of Women being attuned with Making and Nurtering Life, with Men being attuned to Harvesting and Utilizing life.

Men primarily dress shirtlessly and usually wear many necklaces, sashes, and ornate hair rings for their long and silky hair, and usually wear sideless breechcloths that can be easily gird about when working on a boat or diving after fish. This choice of clothing exists mostly to attract ladies.

Women tend to be slightly sunkissed ladies, who will wear shawls, serapes, and ornate sarongs, who often decorate themselves with beautiful oil based paints and dyes, since they tend to last longer in the hot salty air.

Also, in this empire all the Fief Lords are Giants, a form blessed by their Divine Emperor, and while ruling their offspring do become half-giant.

No good pics of them, so instead have one of the pieces of seafood they commonly harvest.

Pretty standard adventuring sword dude. His morals are mostly non-existent, except when they are. He's blunt. And he fights to improve, but with no real interest in being the very best.

Good:

No real strong thoughts/feelings ensures he's unlikely to ever have a personality conflict with another PC.

The mixture of Lore Warden, Brawler and Initiation is an inspired choice. Lore Warden allows him to contribute outside of combat more than other DPS/Tanks I've talked about, and Brawler lets him take full advantage of unpredictable circumstances.

Bad:

Boring. So, very, very boring. I apologize for the bluntness and lack of constructive feedback here, but... Raine just seems utterly generic.

Maybe I'm just dumb and missing something obvious about him, but he has no real reason to be doing anything, besides boredom (I guess?), but he's also not written as an adrenaline-junkie-always-needs-excitement type, so the boredom angle doesn't work.

That's really my biggest gripe with the character. He desperately needs to *be* a character. Give him some flaws, some foibles, some minor hobbies. But, most importantly, give him a motivation to do the things he does.

Also, why did I have to go up to the bullet points to learn that the name of the Order that recruited him? That whole segment needs to be greatly expounded upon.

This is a minimalist app done right. The backstory tells us everything we need to know, but doesn't get bogged down in tedious details His parents don't matter because he's a cat! Neither do childhood, homelife, education, or a million other things!

Despite the minimal development he gets, Nikator is sufficiently believable and unique as a character.

It doesn't take itself seriously. A tiny bit of levity goes a long way towards making an app more memorable, especially when someone's reading 10+ of these things in a row. Most apps have humor, but ultimately damage the main concept, whereas this one cleverly exploits a well-known draconic trope to create the humor.

Completely subjective, but the idea of a hissing and spitting fist-fighter, with the self-assurance and ego of a lazy cat makes me giggle.

The combination of Warlord and UC Rogue means he has multiple ways to contribute to the party, both in and out of combat.

Bad:

There are some important questions about the character that haven't been answered. What does *he* think about being part of a dragon's horde? How do others feel about him? Other than going outside, what does he really want from life? Does he like being human-ish, or does he want to do back to being a cat?

Plenty of things that could help us get into the mindset of the character more easily are missing.

So I seem to have a problem with my gaming group and just want to rant. We are playing in a no-equipment "survival" setting and I'm playing a fighter. Because I know we would start with 0 starting wealth, I took the crane style feat chain to survive the early levels. This gets me to 23 AC (19 AC after an almost hit) w/o armor at level 4.

After a couple of months, the other players are complaining that I'm OP because few things can hit me. Am I in the wrong for playing a turtle? I don't even deal that much damage in the first place.

The thing that irks me the most that the DM thinks I am metagaming because I brought character that doesn't need that much equipment. He wants us to be gimped because we are out of our element, despite the fact that another player is playing a druid with homebrew casting rule that replaces preparation with mana limit and skill checks, which is pretty much all day casting

I think you probably just did a better job creating your character than they did.

So personally I don't particularly like Gestalt from a GMing perspective, but do like poaching a few class features from other classes.

What I have tried doing twice now is instead of Gestalt is giving players a free VMC. It's not nearly as strong as Gestalt but helps people be more diverse. Basically I think Gestalt is a bit much for how versatile it makes PCs but free VMC hits a sweet spot for me.

I've done this twice now and a few people have raised concerns about certain VMCs being extremely bad. In particular Gunslinger and Monk. I switched them up a bit to make them less garbage.

I also had one player asked for a Bloodrager VMC, which I made.

Now here is what I am thinking. Would people be interesting in some redone VMC? Buffing the really bad ones and making VMCs for all the hybrid and alternate classes?

Which VMCs do you think need buffing the most?

Is there any way to make the caravan rules not suck? I'm running the Hungry Storm soon, and just the sheer distance you gotta cover with all the shitty events is looking quite extra shitty.

I was thinking a combination of allowing the players to dismount the caravan to take on encounters by foot, or just compressing travel days together in groups of 2/3 days. Any suggestions?
