Another players character concept for a roll20 game I'm applying to. I think they look like a swell bunch.

A boy of many talents who is force sensitive and follows the ways of the mandalorians, jedi, a little bit of sith, the way of revan and was the youngest ever imperial grand admiral when the emperor first employed him he was 10 years old and extremely intelligent and a good military tactician he served for a 5 year period after his promotion and was rivaled in military prowess only by grand admiral thrawn himself he hid his force sensitiveness well from the emperor and soon was put in charge of training anti force troops and was gifted with 2 super star destroyers the basilisk and the 5 justices his troops were loyal to him alone he even had a few force sensitives in his ranks. he was of mandalorian decent and is directly related to revan himself as well as several great mandalore's. he was hailed by his men and many others as Grand Admiral Master Darth Mandalore the Revanchist. when the emperor finally found out about his heritage and force sensitivity he ordered his termination by lord vader thrawn and the inquisitors themselves but they failed miserably the last words heard from him for the next few decades was " Don't follow or you may wish the emperors punishment itself upon yourself. after that he was not seen data records recovered upon his return data record reveals that for 5 years after his departure he headed for his home planet that no one but him knew about known as garrison and spent those years training his soldiers to the peek of their ability

after that they put themselves in stasis and waited to be awakened by the droids taking care of the ships when awoken he sent out stealth craft to seek the knowledge of current events he discovered and decided to join with both the mandalorians and the jedi remnant as well as root out the remaining traces of the emperor among the empire assisting them occasionally but focused down on devastating the one sith order. this great man unlike other high military commanders joins his troops upon the field of battle in his mandalorian renovated neo crusader/ crusader mandalorian armor equipped with many surprises he wields a modified light saber pike and both of his ships are loaded with custom troop made basilisk war droid mounts in innumerable amounts no tie fighters are aboard these ships. after his attempted termination he became known as Cabur or Guardian/ protector he is a human age 20

There's no lack of motivations for joining the rebel alliance, but I got stuck on how you join the rebel alliance. Do you just blow up imperial shit untill someone takes notice? What would be a normal recruitment channel for entry level rebels?
>>
>>52061060
That's one way. Rebels often have contacts among the galactic smuggling community, too, so a character can get hooked up through a smuggling contact or doing business with a Rebel agent. Wedge got his start in Legends thanks to Booster hooking him up with a Rebel piloting job. Alternately, a party of Scum PCs might be scouted by a johnson who is secretly a Reb and he sends them on secretly pro-Reb missions. If they're reliable enough, maybe he reveals his power level and hands them a job offer.

>>52060811
You mean you eat a big turd.

MC ships give the whole rebel fleet a feel that they should actually be circling a drain.

Traviss Mandos a shit. The pre-Traviss cunts who shitposted the Cathar to death are alright, though. Combine them with the Battletech Clans and you've got a recipe for fun enemies. Except for Clan Smoke Jaguar. Smoke Faguar need not apply.

>>
>>52061847

A minion group only ever does a single check, regardless of the size of the group.

As an example, a squad of four stormtroopers would be a single minion group, so would only roll one attack if shooting someone.

Most Wanted, HWK, Jumpmaster, Protectorate, Shadowcaster, Mist Hunter, Houndstooth
>>
>>52063458

Nah, go for it. It's vital to run one of the titles on Defenders otherwise they're just too overpriced, Ryad is still amazing, and it has other useful kit in it.

The x7 nerf is still -2, just that it means it's not a no-brainer to fly anymore. You need to not be stressed, and you can't bump when you do it so just fly careful. Might want to invest in a punisher for Mk II engines to get more green, and so your opponent can't go "Gee I wonder if he's going straight or K-Turning?"
>>
>>52063458
Defender is basically identical if you can fly properly.

Only thing that really changed is that the x7 title doesn't guarentee a evade token, meaning there is room for counter play (it's for the best) and stress becomes a bigger hazard.

Given that the best pilots (Ryad and Vess) don't have exceptional pilot skill anyway. Bumping isn't as much of a problem as it could be anyway.

Wait what? How long as he been in stasis? Was he in the ship? How did he get out?

It would take a ridiculous amount of time for a structure like a star destroyer to be buried under 10 miles of bedrock. Not only that when you are that deep you are very much closing in on the outer core of a planet (Earth at least) at which case it would be subject to so much pressure and would quickly just melt down and become part of the rock cycle.

They're both pretty even I'd say, original comes with some useful cards like engine and shield upgrades but the new one comes with stuff for both the Falcon and for T-70s. Since you're just starting I would say go with the new one since it's basically a whole list in a box and it will give you more options in conjunction with whatever you get after it.

>>
>>52066795
I've only played the FFG ones so I can't compare them to the others, but the dice system is delightful and makes things fun and fluid, even in combat (which I typically don't care for). The Obligation/Duty/Morality systems also do a good job of getting you into the mood of the game. Overall I don't really care for the Star Wars setting (it's fine to just have fun with but the world building is garbage) but it's probably my favorite system.

D6, because it's incredibly simple - just about as simple as an RPG can be - yet perfectly captures the pulpy, sci-fantasy feel of Star Wars.

In addition, the sourcebooks are a treasure trove of info and ideas from the earliest days of Star Wars media - they both feel like and ARE the core upon which the rest of the Star Wars EU was constructed. And they continue to be important in nuCanon, since so many references and ideas in Rebels and Rogue One link back to West End Games materials. Based Pablo Hidalgo started his Star Wars career writing for WEG.

Like, seriously - WEG D6 IS Star Wars.

Plus, you don't need special dice.

Yeah, it's not as if the Empire's main fighters had massive, easy-to-hit panels that also block visibility anywhere but forward.

Or X-wings that unfold for /no reason/ other than to look cool.

You also pick a career so you could have a trandosian bounty hunter who is a force exile if you wanted, only thing that can't be force sensitive is a droid.

As for experience, it's based on what you start with so if you have 15 xp, you decide which skills you want.
>>
>>52068043
>a player could start with this as their specialization right?
You can start with it,(through purchasing it at character creation) but I'm pretty sure it cannot be your starting specialization because it is a universal spec and not a career spec. It's your GM's call.

>also, they could start loading points into powers right away right, or am I misreading this?

so let's say I did allow it as a starting specialization sintead of forcing them to stay on career specializations. they seem really flaky unless you dump enough points in to get a second force rating, and if you're spending 90 xp you aren't getting three characteristics buffed up to workable levels.

Would I have a problem where my starting force exile can't do anything well, and how should that be handled? tell him to suck up being mediocre till he gets his cool force shit working? Encourage him to invest in characteristics and take the penalty of no specialization skills for that nice carrot of powers later? The one person I can think of who'd want force powers is really bad about wanting shit quickly, can't imagine they'd like that.
>>
>>52068496
Force powers don't get good without significant investment like you said.
Having them invest in other shit is hard, youre asking him not to improve for a good period of time
If they have any focus of power gaming, they will probably not be pleased. It can be a great role playing section though, as the character discovers his powers and learns to use them
Making him feel useful through the leveling period will be difficult for sure though
>>
>>52068496
Force Exile is not a particularly good spec in general. EotE didn't put a lot of effort into the Force stuff desu. If a player wanted to play a force-sensitive character I'd just let them take a career and spec from Force and Destiny.
>>
>>52068496
>Encourage him to invest in characteristics
Is a good option for all starting characters, because increasing statistics is very costly in FFG star wars.

>for that nice carrot of powers later?
Force powers generally are pretty so-so until you invest heavily in them. Let him know that off before he makes his character. If he's still dead set on being a FS, use things like visions to play up the mysticism and keep him involved, but not giving him XP that imbalances the party.

Thanks. I tried to design something that could be assembled relatively cheaply, but would still offer respectable performance. The old novels made a big deal about a lot of Alliance starfighters being home-made or repurposed from older designs (Hell the A-Wing was once described as often having wood paneling on the inside to cover exposed circuitry simply because the plans were widely distributed as open source and often built in peoples' garages.)

Ancient training programs. A room that won't let the players out unless they can successfully levitate a trio of stone spheres. If there are no force-sensitives in the party, then it's time to get creative to trick the 'tutorial computer'. Likewise a 'training computer' malfunctioning so that it will only answer questions, and open doors, if correctly spoken to in an ancient language that was dead for centuries before the Galactic Civil War broke out.

A native or semi-native population that has taken to the teachings of the Jedi and now show population-wide force sensitivity. They object to the temple being 'invaded' or their 'holy relics' stolen. Make it something small and often ignorred, maligned, or disrespected. Ranats, squib, and ugnaughts work well.

A group of scientific researchers trying to puzzle out some of the advanced technology the Jedi never shared with the rest of the galaxy. (Holocron AIs that perfectly replicate living consciousness in very small packages, force-interfacing technology, lightsaber-derived tools and weapons, etc.)

I love the idea of only being able to do mild patch-ups when you're on the move, but during downtime or going through hyperspace, how long would one consider "one encounter?" 10% and 5%. So 10 percent of the population is either a garrison force or militia. (10K population means there's a standing force of 1000 soldiers to maintain order, serve as police forces, and defend the planet from attack). 5% of those forces are skilled enough to be professional fighter pilots. So that's a total of 50 fighters available to the planet in question. Arrange as needed, though I recommend five wings of ten fighters each.

One of the books in the Bounty Hunter series actually points out that there's a single clan of Hutts living in a series of asteroid-habitats who reject their modern cousins and still live by their ancestors ancient ways. So it COULD happen. But you're right to be skeptical.

>>
>>52075098
McGregor was the only newcomer that I felt was cast perfectly. There couldn't have been a better choice for young Kenobi.

He and Ian carried AotC and RotS.

It's funny though that back in the day that Guinness, the original Kenobi, hated Star Wars and didn't want anything more to do with it, thinking it'd flop and be forgotten, only to have his character coming back decades later and being a great part of the prequels.

Contrasted with Ian and Cushing who both loved working on Star Wars and thought it would become a massive deal. It sucks that Cushing passed before he could be in another Star Wars movie, since he said that was the only bad part about working on A New Hope: he couldn't appear in any more of the movies.
>>
>>52075152
>Guinness, the original Kenobi, hated Star Wars and didn't want anything more to do with it
I'm pretty sure he was fairly neutral on the films, and the hating it thing was just a quote that got misunderstood. Most likely wrong though.
>>
>>52075190
"Hate" is a little too strong of a word, but Guinness wasn't a fan of fantasy, and thought Star Wars was too silly for his tastes. While he didn't despise the film like some claim, he did think it would be a failure and worried it'd tarnish his career playing a cooky old man in a weird film no one liked, as he also felt his acting was poor in it. The quote that gets him misunderstood was when he told a young fan to stop watching Star Wars and do something else more meaningful: this wasn't him being cruel to the kid or the movie, it was just his frustration that everyone only saw him as Ben Kenobi from Star Wars now and forgot about his other works.

The same happened with McDiarmid, except he was much more neutral on it all and enjoyed working on Star Wars anyway, even though he admitted he preferred stage acting over film acting.

Then you had Cushing who just adored the whole thing and had a great time working on it.
>>
>>52075253
Guinness was also purportedly baited a bit into working on Star Wars, since Lucas made it clear he wanted to make a sci-fi movie more realistic and gritty than Star Trek, which Guinness also disliked.
>>
>>52075253
And Ian McDiarmid was actually willing to voice palpatine in the cartoon when his soundalike (Also named Ian) died. (It still blows my mind that McDiarmid is younger than Billy Dee Williams and Harrison Ford) but they couldn't set up a recording studio in the UK for him and he wasn't willing to fly to the states.
>>
>>52075288
>more realistic and gritty than Star Trek
Well, it was certainly grittier. Star Wars visuals>Star Trek visuals. Always.
>>
>>52075190
>>52075152
>>52075253
I think he liked it at first. His diaries and interviews at the time were all largely positive not least because it made him obscenely rich.

He just hated how it overshadowed the rest of his career.

The famous quote to the kid wasn't necessarily about Star Wars it was a profound premonition on how raising boys had changed and now most of us can relate even from our own experience.

Worshipping a single production and watching it endlessly would have been very strange and unhealthy to someone from Guinness' time. Totally normal now and does invariably lead to manchildren.

Why are TLT regarded as so good? I seriously don't see the appeal.
>>
>>52075479

TLT are potent for a few reasons.

First, they offer a fairly consistent damage output which isn't arc-dependent.
When mounted on Miranda, they play very well on her ability, making her very durable.
Third, compared with the other turrets, they can do damage out to range three, without any tokens or other fanciness.

They will still be good, they just require forethought now.

Any experienced player will know only to use palps defensively. X7 nerf will basically mean nothing since both Vess and Ryad never relied on High PS anyway and most players will know how to properly faint manuevers.

The "nerf" just make the list more difficult to execute ( in this case not brainless).

Really it's every other imp aces list that suffers from the Palp changes.

>>

I believe vacuum would put them into hibernation which could be permanent if randomly in space. Fire would depend. If something is actively burning them like a flamethrower or incinerator I'd say it could kill them, but if it was something like a building burning down they wake up out of the ashes a few days later
>>
>>52075880
There are a few significant changes but I'm afraid it's been years since I played the beta at this point and do not remember. The actual core does give very good value for money and is pretty so I would recommend it.
If you are very on the fence about the system and don't know if you'll like it, and a local store still has a beta for like 10 bucks or something then it might be worth it to get the beta first. I personally wouldn't recommend it, but it will give you an overview of most of the system .

>>
>>52076600
In this case, a droid.
3 Brawn
4 Agility
2 Intellect
2 Cunning
1 Willpower
1 Presence
Is this a bad layout for someone combat-focused?
>>
>>52076712
depends on what spec you are, but I would move either intellect or cunning to willpower, (your primary stat for initiative and increasing ST). Otherwise looks very similar to a player of mine's Droid gadgeteer.
>>
>>52076705

Yeah, basically, if you "hit" (I/E not all of your attack results are canceled) the target takes 1 regular damage, then you throw the rest of your results away, and you do it twice as one attack.

It's a scratch damage trick. Like other double-tap moves, it means you can bleed the opponent on tokens, or you bleed them on damage - which the fact that you can account a couple of damage at long range pretty easily is great against fragile ships - like Aces. You're not going to chip something big like a Falcon with just one TLT, you need to run shit like Thug Lyfe (4Y with TLT Scum) for that, but it's really annoying for some people.
>>
>>52074961

>>52077033

>>
>>52077109
Not really, considering they can get PTSD or just run low on energy.
>>
>>52077169
Can't you just memory wipe that ptsd away?
>>
>>52077109
Droids in Star Wars very clearly experience pain and emotions so them having mental fortitude is not all that strange. Plus mechanically strain is tied to pulling maneuvers and is affected by ion damage so it works out.
>>
>>52077109

Strain loosely covers a variety of things, so having a higher strain threshold as a droid could represent having better subroutines (less likely to short out under duress) or construction (better tolerances to extreme temperatures, etc).
>>
>>52077207
Memory wipes, as the name suggests, wipe the droid's memory. While this stops them acquiring personality quirks that may make them less useful servants it also reverts them to their factory default programming and by extension capabilities.
>>
>>52077207
To put it in game terms, you'd be rid of Strain concerns, but also lose all your XP.
>>
>>52077259
>>52077247
>>52077169
Alright, I can see that making sense, fair enough.

Is the character being a BX-series commando droid, fully covered to obscure what it is a bit 'much'? It's the only thing I've settled on, I can't even figure out for certain why it's still active after the shutdown command.
>>
>>52077517
Eh, I would discuss it with your GM. It could have been reactivated post Order 66, and they're apparently common enough that a BX works as a cleaning staff in the AoR starter kit. And B1s work as laborers in a mine in the EotE GM kit. On the other hand we have like BXs wearing clone armor in canon and the Holographic disguise matrix purpose built for such a thing.
>>
>>52076129
Are all those little nubs supposed to be cannons?
>>
>>52077693

I believe so. Hapans build their own turbolasers which don't have the same efficiency as wider galactic models, so the battle dragon works by basically being a frickin' carousel of TLs which rotate into place while the previous one cools and resets.
>>
>>52077802
Why don't they just import the lasers?

On the other hand I do applaud their desire to be independent and immune to embargoes and blockades.
>>
>>52077925

IIRC the idea is the Hapans (who live in a dense star cluster of many systems) were actually embargoed or chose to isolate themselves out of the Clone Wars and following imperial era and basically sat out until post-Endor. They operated kind of like Corellia in that regard, they retained autonomy and didn't really go in or out much but they had to build their own ships because the Hapes Cluster is also riddled with pirates.

So Hapans have all their own designs and tech, and I think later some people wrote in that CIS engineers fled to the cluster and helped design some of their stuff like the Miy'til fighters too.
>>
So I finally have all the scum ships, which faction do I build next? I have a K-Wing, HWK and a A-wing for rebels. For the empire I have a Phantom, Firespray and Punisher
>>
>>52078090
Imperials require redundant ships, rebs only have a small number of viable ships but require upgrades spread throughout multiple expansions.

I'd go imperials if you want to use all plastic you buy, even if you may need more than one copy.
>>
>>52078161
I was thinking Empire too. The Decimator looks awesome and I'd love to fly Darth Vader. Only rebel ships I'm really interested in are the Ghost and U-Wing
>>
>>52077610
So far the GM seems cool with it. I want to keep the party from knowing my character is a droid without actually making it a Human Replica Droid or whatever they're called.
I'm also wondering who or why it was reactivated. Any ideas?
It's a good thing I have a lot of time for figuring this out.
>>

>>
>>52078044

>>
>>52078044
>>52078432
Hahaha, No. Hapans are utterly brutal to smugglers and pirates.

I guess it comes from the fact that their human members are descended from pirate rape slaves that rebelled.
>>
>>52078432
No way. Hapians fanatically hate pirates, really dislike the empire and don't care much for the rebellion
Possibly if they make a third armada faction that's all-around third parties rather than just scum, maybe there, but they wouldn't make sense with any of the extant X-wing factions
>>
>>52060612
Star Wars FFG question. The party has the funds to purchase a fighter, and my PCs is a Jedi pilot who's been investing heavily in Starfighter Ace so I'll be ready to be awesome once we can get a fighter, and I want to do well to make up for how much the group has been carrying me. I have 100k credits saved up, and everyone else is pitching in since I'll be flying escort for the blockade runner. Right now I'm torn between a classic X-Wing, a Mandalorian Protectorate fighter, or taking some Obligation to an arms dealer and getting a TIE Defender.
>>
>>52078782
I'd take the mando fighter
rotating wings mean cool as manuvers
>>
>>52078782
I'd take the X-Wing and I have no idea how any arms dealer would be able to aquire a Defender when even most Imperial fleets would be lucky to aquire one.
>>
>>52078432
>>52078670

Hapes kinda went in with NR in the Warlord period, but no the best way for them to be represented in X-Wing would be if the game grew like a fourth faction for groups like CorSec/CDF, CSA, Hapans, etc... which I don't see happening anytime soon.

That'd be a lot of EU bait, and people already complain about Scum being "not-iconic", and having such good upgrades because they need to play catch up. Or, y'know, problems with stuff like Kihraxz where they ape on the role of another faction ship which isn't great.

If you're flying Escort, take the X. She's a proper multirole fighter. You've got a good attack profile between the torpedoes and the lasers, and have a comfortable mission time in the cockpit with enough fuel and rations to cover you. Shields and solidity too.

The Fang fighter is more like an interceptor or superiority fighter. Fast as hell, agile, with a narrow profile which makes them a great knife fighter - but they don't have shields or endurance, and limited firepower.

The Defender is about as good as an X, though the cannons and multipurpose munitions make them more flexible - but the trip is a famous as hell profile - and god knows what this arms dealer had to do to get one to fall off a truck. It's asking for trouble just to get ion cannons and the ability to shoot different ordnance. Plus, the X has an Astro slot and a hard point free.
>>
>>52078782
X-Wing is out the box the best, and has the most hardpoints and an astromech slot.

Protectorate starfighter is for getting nightshadow coating or ECM and getting to Sil:1

Also consider the HWK-290, which is one of the best starfighters and party buses.

>>
>>52078782
Given your situation something like a Skipray or some sort of hyperdrive-less heavy fighter would probably be more ideal than any of those three options.
Plus you've got the big issue where the mando fighter is probably worse at the job than the others, but the other options are *extremely* conspicuous and will bring beaucoup heat down on anyone who's seen even flying *near* one
>>
>>52078304
Option 1: Go to Kinkos, get 6 copies made
Option 2: Borrow them from your playgroup before the tournament
Option 3: buy Imperial Veterans, YV-666, and Kihraxz

I have 6 copies, 1 is from Kinkos, 2 from Kihraxz, 2 from Imp Vets, 1 from a YV-666. I almost entirely play Empire though, i no longer own the YV-666, and the Kihraxz are just so my Firespray can be used in a scum list.

>That said even HAN didn't want to smuggle in Hapan territory after seeing a lot of his friends blown up without the option of surrender.
There's a comic where Han Solo smuggled several Corellian corvettes past an imperial checkpoint, and the officer was suspicious enough to disassemble the ships trying to figure out what was being smuggled. I thought Han could smuggle anything to anywhere so it makes me wonder how tight the security of the Hapan is.
>>
>>52079678
So the officer had the corvettes disassembled and reassembled just to see if anything was hidden inside, when the ships themselves were being smuggled?

How common are class 0.5 hyprrdrives? Was the Millennium Falcon the only example? And if so why don't more ships have them? Han doesn't seem to be a super genius so I doubt he invented 0.5 hyperdrives.

I'll probably do this, I hadn't considered the HP and one of the other players is REALLY into modding and crafting.

yes.

Chewbacca probably did all the work.

Because they're notoriously unreliable, the Falcon breaks down every other jump.

Yup, based on some old Chinese Wheelbarrow proverb.

>>52079754
They're exceedingly rare, Palpatine's shuttles are probably .5 or even .4 or better given how fast he made it to mustafar (Even assuming a nearly-straight-line secret hyperspace lane)

Han and Chewie are crazy and actually quite smart especially when working together, but they've not exactly built a STABLE drive.

Isn't the new Mist-Hunter Byblos G1-A base ship now even BETTER than the HWK? It's got guns out of the box and I think just as many hardpoints.
>>
Han didn't build the Millennium Falcon, he won it gambling.

The Falcon's drive needs 3 droid brains because anything below 1 needs to be continually tuned and has a massive failure rate. There's no factory that makes them, they have to be custom built for the ship.
>>
>>52079754
Isn't it more likely Lando purchased the insanely expensive 0.5 drive as he upgraded the ship and then Han comes in and wins it?

>Isn't the new Mist-Hunter Byblos G1-A base ship now even BETTER than the HWK? It's got guns out of the box and I think just as many hardpoints.

Debatable. The G1-A holds one more person, and has weapon systems already, but the HWK is more maneuverable and has +1 Hard point and hauls way more stuff - it's also cheaper. The G1-A is a bit tougher in a fight though.
>>

"Hauls way more stuff" NOBODY in their right mind uses FFG's ship encumbrance.

And once you strip the weapons off the G1-A doesn't it have as many or more hardpoints?

>>52080021
Other than MAYBE palpatine's.

Also I propose someone get a screenshot of Steve Blum, Ezra's VA and Chopper playing FFG's X-Wing for the new thread

Not the best resolution someone may get a better one from the Rebels Recon.

>And once you strip the weapons off the G1-A
Who in their right mind would ever fly an unarmed ship in Star Wars without a fuckton of escorts?
>>
>>52080218

Well, I don't technically know if get a hardpoint back if you pull the system out, just that switching extant systems doesn't cost a hardpoint - but yeah if you look at it that way, the G-1A has one more slot. Though, the HWK is 18/18 with Armor 2 against the G-1As 14/12 with Armor 3 and +1 fore defense, so technically the HWK is a smidge tougher. Either ship can round that out with mods though - Hardpoints are a hell of a drug. I wish Fighters had more than 0-1 usually. Or that physical countermeasures didn't cost a point.

>"Hauls way more stuff" NOBODY in their right mind uses FFG's ship encumbrance.

Eh, but even if you use it just to judge abstraction, it's still 25 vs 75 in the HWKs favor and two more months of consumables. Which fits because one is a pocket-sized freighter and the other is a heavy starfighter type thing.
>>
>>52080286

Well, you can pull out the light laser cannons and concussion missile launcher to go for heavy or medium lasers and a proton torpedo launcher. And have room for a tractor beam, an ion cannon and the new minelayer.

Y'know, if you wanted to paint a frickin' sharkmouth on the front and go hunting bounties.
