All right, enough shitposting. What career/spec from EotE would you make Luke? What about from AoR? FaD?

I would say definitely Ace (Pilot) for AoR but I'm not sure about the others.

He favored Djem So, but I can't remember if FaD has a class for that yet. I'd also wager he would have Guardian (Peacekeeper). Feels like it falls in line with his general personality and character traits.

He would also have a unique Moisture Farmer career. He doesn't use it on many things other than Mara Jade's panties.

I just finished playing the KotOR games, are there any systems based in that time?
>>
>>52034813
You could easily set the FFG games in that era.
>>
>>52034813
The KOTOR games mostly follow the d20 system, which conveniently has KOTOR-era source books. If you don't like d20, FFG probably works, too. Most KOTOR tech is just thinly veiled PT/OT reskins anyway.

KotOR itself used a modified version of WotC's Star Wars d20 RPG, which itself was basically just 3.x D&D with a few minor changes.

WotC's Star Wars RPGs (d20/Revised/Saga) all have setting books based on KotOR.

WEG d6 had rulebooks for the Tales of the Jedi era, though, and FFG's are centered basically around the OT.

To add to that, Vader's helmet is heavily inspired by both the stahlhelm and samurai kabuto. The OJO had a thing for monastic brown robes. Gamorreans still go around with axes and Royal Guards still carry pikes. Stormtroopers walk around with Sterlings and MG34s, while Rebel troopers have StG-44s, M1 helmets, and dressed up M60s. Saw's faction is literally just Space Muslim terrorists.

This is space fantasy franchise, not hard sci-fi. Shit from thousands of years in the past is should look archaic as fuck.

You would best not be doing that, unless you want your Force sensitive players to all die from the sheer terror of feeling thousands of fellow Revanchist "Jedi," Republic military, and Mandalorians get crushed, up close and personal.

Probably a Gozanti if you really want all the TIE pilots, Youngster in particular seems pretty good for a swarm since you can pass around rage or expose or something. If you don't want to spend 70 bucks on two more TIEs then probably an ace or two in Defenders, Interceptors, Advanceds or Advanced prototypes and/or a Punisher for some Ion Engine Mk.IIs.

So I'm torn /swg/. I have three concepts for a campaign and I can't think of which one to run. They all sound good, but I haven't GMed in a while and I'm worried that I'm rusty. Sadly it's difficult to find a game myself, so I figured I'd try running one again.

>The first idea is purely EOTE but all three books can be used. The group is a bunch of mercs/adventurers who play off of Debts to Pay to join the service of a corporate lackey who seeks to take control over the cybernetics company he works for and who wants to kill his asshole of a boss. He recruits the players to handle a job his boss needs done, which leads them into the storyline of Debts to Pay. However, throughout he tries to overtly or covertly get the players on his side to help him, the lackey does, and in the end with their help he tries to hostile-takeover the company, killing the boss and becoming quite a prick himself. If the players don't help him, he makes them his target. If they helped him, he'll give them pay then tell them to fuck off. This leads into more adventures with now a crime boss from Debts to Pay and this corrupt exec being two recurring Nemeses.

>The second is an Imperial Campaign using the AOR system that is set shortly after the destruction of the Death Star II. The Empire is beginning to crack and the players are at the forefront. They rise through the ranks as resources become more and more scarce, participating in major battles and possibly turning the tide of the war in the Empire's favor, such as by helping a particular Moff keep from splintering off and keeping the Empire unified. They may also join a splinter faction themselves and fight the others. A more straightforward military campaign with the AOR Imperial Duty chart used as the general go-to for missions and such.

>The third involves a clandestine monastery on an Outer Rim world that houses some Force Sensitives, but adheres neither to the Jedi nor Sith. Not Grey Jedi, just Force users that don't adhere to ANY side and teach your typical monastic peace and isolation stuff. The group of newly-ordained monks go on a journey to retrieve their Saber Crystals, which is a trial long since set up by the monastery, but the Empire has recently arrived to colonize the planet and bring both order and exploitation of resources. The players end up finding an old star chart that takes them off-world and ultimately sets them in a conflict between Rebel Spies and the ISB, and an agent of both sides seeks to recruit them for their own side's gain. The ultimate "loyalty mission" for both sides is to kill the opposing agent. This will lead them to either joining the Rebellion or ISB and going on further adventures for that faction with that theme.

I know scripts can change, so all this is a basic outline, and I plan to use a lot of material, including from older versions of the game, to make interesting stories and continuing adventures for my players. I just don't know if it's worth my time given the increasing rarity of online Star Wars games using FFG's system or if any of my ideas are worth implementing.

Advice and thoughts?

>>
>>52037448

They all sound like they'd make for decent campaigns. For #3, how are you going to make both offers seem appealing? The players will probably go into this with the assumption that Rebels = good, Empire = evil so they'll probably join the Rebels by default (unless you make the Empire the obvious good guys in which case it still isn't much of a dilemma).
>>
>>52037934
Not everyone cares about good vs. evil. Personally, I'd have my character go Imperial, were everything the same - you don't become a criminal that way, and it's expected in-universe that the rebels will lose.

It's OOC thinking that Rebels = good guys.
>>
>>52037934
>>52037962
This. Personally, I'd think it would be cooler for the players to try and keep the temple independent, or at the very least let the monks decide what they think they should do themselves.
>>
>>52037934
I tend to shoot for more moral grays in my universe, so no fanon with the Rebels being psycho evil and the Empire paragon saints, but both sides have their ups and downs, goods and evils. A choice I had in mind was that the Rebellion would want the party to go and convince the rest of the monastery to join them, but as the monks are reclusive and don't care about either side (most don't even know about the majority of galactic events, other than the Republic fell and the Empire's in charge) they would be resistant to it. If the party failed to convince them to fight the Empire, the Rebellion would try to forcibly integrate them itself, regardless of the cost to the monks.

The ISB meanwhile would note the monastery being benign and isolationist and would offer to leave it alone (unless they start causing trouble) and protect it from Rebel interference so long as as the party helped them out and opposed the Rebellion. Sounds easy until the party realizes that their ISB ally just may be using the monastery and their kinsmen as leverage, so if the party turns against them the Empire could move in and wreck shit easily.

Basically either way it boils down to the Imps and Rebs saying "Help us and we won't fuck up your home" in a less overt way, and the choice would come down to the players' and/or their characters' personal views of the Rebellion and Empire.

The players betraying their own monastery to gain favor for either side (telling the Rebels where they are so they can go conscript them by force or telling the Empire where they are so an Inquisitor can come do the dirty work) is also a possibility. A fairly dramatic betrayal which wouldn't be unheard of in Star Wars, and joining either side involves betraying the ISB/Rebellion anyway.

A player in a game I once watched some of when trying to decide whether or not I'd enjoy AOR brought up that point. The party was unanimously wanting to help the Rebels and he was the only person suggesting they check out the Empire a bit more first. There was no hostility or anything but he did get irritated and tell them that "Rebels = Good" was OOC, since up until that point the Empire had actually helped out the party with some jobs and the Rebels had never even appeared.

Endor Open was won with Parattani.

If you are a new player, just pick up whatever you think sounds/looks cool.

What this guy says
>>52037351

is for advanced players, no new player needs a Gozanti. Youngster isn't that good either. the best pilots in that set are Wampa and Scourge.

Most TIE swarms are mini-swarms of howlrunner, 3 Black Squadrons, and then an ace like Soontir Fel, Vader, or Countess Ryad.
>>
>>52038339
Well, Endor had less than 100 people though. I heard 80? It got held in a hall that required you to buy a con ticket, and those were $110 AFAIK?

Like Chumbalaya said a couple threads back- It will be funny if Paratanni wins all but one open, just so that the shitstorm happens. (and they make Mindlink the first 2-dot unique card as a result)

Well, time to skip the XWM forums for the next week - again. Because boy howdy hearing those same dozen people say the same thing every time an Open closes sure is FUN.
>>
>>52038339
I watched that match and was there for most of the tourny. The guy who got second was undefeated until the final with a Rebel swarm. I watched him beat paratanni multiple times. Including against the guy who ultimately won. He absolutely proved that Rebel swarms can beat it. He just got ridiculously outmaneuvered and outfought, and had a really unfortunate direct hit on a z-95.

Sky isn't falling.
>>
>>52038605

Yeah, but people will still say it is. This is why he said to get that salt out, because people be salty.

Because winning an open tournament has nothing to do with being a skilled player or having great luck - nooo, it's all about picking a broken netlist and that just destroying anyone who dares to oppose you...
>>
>>52038605
And here I was certain that Z-95s were total shit. I've played against Parattani once or twice before and I didn't think it was unbeatable but it did seem pretty annoying, I can't imagine what a cunt it would be to take it on with nothing but headhunters.

>rebels = good is ooc
That depends on what your character is like, and also depends on how much of the empire they've seen.

I mean, even if the rebellion is just a quiet whisper they've heard once or twice, if theyve seen the Empire cracking down on innocent people, then wanting some kind of opposed position to that isnt necessarily out of character.

A character who cherishes personal freedoms, or equality for non-human races, would most likely be very drawn to the Rebellion cause, even if the rebels hadnt actually shown up to suck his dick once or twice and offer him a job.

Droids start with more experience then everyone else, but 1s in every stat.

>>
>>52043718
I noticed that but...then again I have no fucking clue how all of this works just yet.

Also, since I'm still just reading AoR's book, are there any species in the game other than droids that could resist the vaccum, at least for short periods of time? The maybe-DM says he plans on running "space trucker simulator", so it might be good for in case someone slaps something on the outside of the ship or the like.
>>
>>52044087
Not that I'm aware, although maybe in one of the splatbooks.

The one thing I will say about the Star Wars RPG in comparison to other game systems is that it wants you to specialize. An engineer isn't going to be able to take on a squad of stormtroopers alone, and a combat focused character isn't gonna be able to fix the hyperdrive.

So decide what you're gonna do, and do it.
>>
>>52044087

In theory, a Gran could resist the lack of atmosphere in space due to their not needing to breath at all.

The temperature would be the issue in that situation, though.

Droids are still very good. Think of them as a blank slate, upon which you get to allocate the stats to build what you want.
>>
>>52044087
If they have rules for them, play as a Gand. Regeneration and not needing to breath, all in one weird looking package.

>>
>>52044715

You could just buy an eva suit or oxy mask or something and pretend to be organic by wearing one if you want to go that route.
>>
>>52044866
Or at least claim they have one on them, right?

The alternative was claiming that they're one of the various vacuum-resistant species under all that armor and such, like I said.

well, I'm guessing that this facility was primarily an industrial facility meant to service droids not living creatures, so I'm guessing there's likely something of a hobo town set up in the large, open spaces in the facility. I can imagine describing people living in old tents, and some not even that, their homes are little more than canvas and cardboard strung-up between rusting-out bits of heavy machinery. I picture there is a foul smell of unwashed bodies and probably of old hydraulic fluid still trapped inside the machinery. I imagine that your PCs will get a lot of staring from the older members of this community, after all, I'd imagine that the PC's likely make way too much money to live in a place like this so they would seem out of place among these cold and huddled masses.

Does Star Wars have an in universe dating system?

I've only ever seen the standard Before and After the Battle of Yavin, which isn't obviously an in universe timescale used.

I was considering jut fluffing one up based on the founding year of the Republic or something so the players could have some in-universe dates and times to work with.

Is there one I don't know about, and if not, does the Republic's founding make sense as a good time to reckon years by?
I was considering having there now be two systems (Republic Reckoning based on the creation of the Republic, and then a new Imperial Reckoning via the creation of the Empire - either could be used on the rim, IR on the core worlds and tapering off as you go out. Rebels use RR of course.
>>
>>52045838
The armour either give defence, which makes you a little harder to hit, or Soak, which is damage reduction.

Where the hell did you get the idea that it gave a health boost?
>>
>>52046500
I'm counting Soak as an 'effective' increase though I admit it's not really an actual one.
>>
>>52045892
Eh he wanted encounters for urban warfare to show what a shitty place it is. There are no fun things happening in urban warfare areas, especially if it's gone on for a while,as then it boils down to running street-to-street fighting, strike-and-fades, mines/IEDs/boobytrapping and sniping.

There's a reason why Urban Ops got the nickname FISH & CHIPS (Fighting In Someone's House and Causing Havoc In People's Streets) by brittish soldiers.
>>
>>52045803
Solid suggestions.

>>52045892
I disagree. Rogue One showed a different side of Star Wars, and I'm still running off the high from seeing Logan. Dark =/= edgy anyway. Reality is awful. Pretending people don't get sniped like that is like ignoring decades of IRA violence, or the realities of families struck by war.

There's no reason we can't explore mature themes in the Star Wars setting.

>>52045937
I'll probably include a shanty town made in the bombed-out ruins (they've left the facility itself, but the ideas still work).

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Standard_Calendar
The BBY/ABY is used in-universe. In Legends, it was one of many different calendar schemes. In nucanon, it's the most prominent one used so far, with the only known alternate currently being a "Lothal calendar."
>>
>>52046644
God dammit, Rebels is going to poison us for years by making some useless backwater world like Lothal so prominent in media.

If the whole galaxy inexplicably uses the Lothal calendar, I'm going to write Pablo Hidalgo a nasty letter.
>>
>>52046644

Dear god, I thought it was just an out-universe abstraction.

Christ that's a fucking horrible way to set your dates.
>Presumably the Old Republic dated years from its founding in 25,053 BBY.
That's more like it.
It's an obnoxiously large number, but its a lot less arbitrary than deciding that the destruction of the Death Star was a good place to set the record.
Endor, maybe, since that kills the Emperor and ends the (then known*) Sith and dark side presence in the galaxy.

But Yavin?
Not a lot happens there, as far as the wider galaxy knows.
>>
>>52046776
Star Wars tends to have a bad habit of making useless backwater worlds strangely prominent. Getting real sick of Tatooine showing up even when Skywalkers aren't involved. Jakku, too, by extension, seeing as it's just Tatooine 2.0: Shipwreck Boogaloo.

Thats a fair point, though the battle of Yavin probably wasnt exactly big news - the Empire certainly werent broadcasting it. Rebel-sympathising worlds probably were though I suppose.

That said, the destruction of Alderaan could be a good contender for the reason that year was chosen.

That said, I think Im still going to houserule some Imperial system based on the formulation of the Empire.
ABY and BBY were obviously something added by historians way afterwards who looked back and saw the Battle of Yavin as the prime focus from which to examine that era of history.
>>
>>52046786
If it makes you feel any better, Anon, in my campaign I've established that the "Imperial Calendar" started upon the founding of the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY.

My campaign is great. The PCs fucked everything up and allowed crazy non-canon things to happen, like the destruction of the Rebellion and the death of the Emperor. So now the galaxy is in chaos! Based Moff Tarkin survived, though. So did Vader.

So now Vader has disappeared into the Deep Core to make sure Sheev can't clone himself back to life, Tarkin has named himself Regent and cemented control of the Mid and Outer rims, the Empire as a whole is fracturing, and lots and lots of smaller factions want to play with the big boys.

We've got the various former Separatist trade guilds running around like the good ol' pre-Clone Wars days, warlords all over, Garm Bel Iblis setting up a more militarized New Rebellion, the Hutts declaring themselves a sovereign nation, Tion closing up borders, Thrawn waiting in the wings, and the Mandalorians stirring their forges.

Fun times.

So that means, I hit him 2 more times, for a total of 12 damage, plus whatever successes I got. This is a system where most early level enemies have health around the 14-16 wound threshold range.
>>
>>52048157

Autofire alone isn't too bad. You have to have the right weapon, and have to spend 2 advantages to trigger an additional hit.

The problems start to creep in when you add Jury Rigged into the mix. That talent allows the wielder to only need one advantage to trigger an additional hit, which means that if the player rolls well, or has a particularly well modded weapon, they can unleash a volley that can wipe any opposition short of heavy armour off the field single handedly. RAW, the trade off for autofire doesn't scale at all compared to the devastation it allows a player to bring.
>>
>>52048146
Dengar is still very good, and Tel seems nice as well. If you are good, triple scouts is still a thing.

Now you can't just slap Manaroo and mindlink into some jank and make a top- tier list.

>>52047945
HOWLRUNNER
>>
>>52048296

Howlrunner doesn't count, you're not seeing a lot of classic TIE swarms with her in it these days - though maybe since Dengaroo is REALLY fucked and you can block x7 they might make a comeback. Ryad and mebbe Quickdraw are the only chicks really in the imperial game right now. But Norra and Miranda, and maybe a little Rey are still pretty good for the ol' Rebs.
>>
>>52048157

Okay, basically, here's the picture. I'm currently playing a wookiee. My *minimum* damage roll on a hit, without very much investment, is around 16 damage, 2 Pierce. A reasonably tough without going tanky character may have something around 21 HP, Soak 6. So minimum damage from a not really very combat-focused guy is over half the other dude's HP. A hit in this system is a *big deal* and it hurts like a bitch, basically.

Autofire lets you hit characters multiple times per round. So a decent roll can basically straight up delete anyone. If the shooter gets 4 advantage, which is entirely reasonable, that's three shots, all at whatever damage you rolled.
>>
>>52048405
How would you propose a nerf to autofire without making it broken?
>>
>>52048447

Honestly, I have no idea. For now I'm simply not buying autofire mods and acting as though the ability doesn't exist.

>>
>>52047417
So how would palp work if you call a hit and you natty roll all hits? Does it cancel and you can use him for a different attack?
>>
>>52048737
Well you'd probably call a crit instead of a hit but regardless I think you probably just lose the call regardless of if you can use it.
>>
>>52048447

To balance autofire, we have to compare it to other sources of dealing multiple hits; dual wielding and the Linked quality.

Dual Wielding is straight forwards if the user is using two of the same weapon class; just increase the difficulty of the check by one, user has to spend two advantages to trigger the second weapon hitting. This is hard-capped at two hits.

The Linked quality, by contrast, can generate additional hits equal to the linked rating, at a cost of two advantage per additional hit. Again, this is limited by the Linked rating, and the rarity of weapons with the linked quality outside of vehicles.

Autofire, by contrast, increases the difficulty of the check by one, similar to dual wielding, without the limit of number of hits allowed to be generated. It is outright superior to dual wielding, and autofire weapons are hilariously more common than weapons with Linked.

My proposal would be to change how autofire works entirely, as follows.

When the active character declares they are using Autofire, they must declare how many additional hits they wish to generate. The difficulty of the check is then upgraded a number of times equal to the number of additional hits declared.

This has two effects. One, it makes spraying fire at enemies with Adversary an even more dangerous proposition. Second, it means that the player is more likely to hit a Despair result, meaning that they RUN OUT OF AMMO.

Yeah, you don't get it. Though saying you'll change to an evade and then naturally rolling three evades will be more common. I suspect he'll still be powerful, but I'm questioning the real utility of the nerf. Time will tell.

Also, as a veteran of X-wing, let me reiterate something I've said before for new people: the meta will massively change every six months. This is why you don't just go out and buy meta lists, but instead train yourself to be good at the game in general. You won't be caught completely flat footed by FAQ changes like this.

I myself am massively looking forward to running Rebels again.
>>
>>52048794
>>52048737

The FAQ clarifies, you can "change" to a result which already exists, so for instance if you rolled a crit or an evade you can change that die to stay on that result - Pretty sure that means if you get lucky you're fucked out of Palp but that's kind of the point. Palp is insurance shit doesn't get unlucky.

Manaroo can blow MY thing and go home.
>>
>>52048255
The problem is there are a lot of reasons to help the Empire too, but as the general player only knows the movies and maybe some EU/Legends, they'll only see the movies portrayal and OOC think "Rebels Good, Empire Bad", when both sides have good and bad elements. In-universe and in-character, members of galactic society would themselves see these goods and bads depending on where they lived, even if the players don't know of them. Still, they usually get by with the cheesy "Empire killed my family" or "Rebels blew up my home" stories that put them on one side or the other.
>>
>>52048296

Thing is, the Zuckuss Nerf may well have been enough on it's own. The Manaroo nerf seems like overkill, I mean range 1? Range 2 or 3 still wouldn't have been that bad. Range 1 is just an unsubtle hammer to the meta whilst howling "STOP DOING THIS SHIT ALL THE TIME"

Even the nerf to Cloaking and Triple Jumpers wasn't this unsubtle.

One small thing caught my eye as interesting: Youngster working with SF's as well as normal and FO ties. Not sure there's any particularily broken combo's that way, but it's nice to see.

Yeah its definitely a ground breaker, if you've got 'alternative' force users- the aesthetic of a warrior monk is kind of fitting with the discipline of force use and bit of pseudo Buddhism that the movies had with Jedi.
The Sohei/Shaolin monk with his magic fist of fury pounding the shit out of people messing with his temple or just acting as a conflict resolution for the poor and downtrodden is really easy to work in the SW universe. If you wanted a more western oriented theme, there's plenty of orthodox priests in places like Serbia, Greece and the slavic countries that would pick up a gat to go remove the heathens, or back a bit later to the Friar Tuck concept of beating oppressive government officials arses with a big stick.

You can't get anything less shit than D6. It's the perfect system for Star Wars. It's been 30 years and people are still playing it. You think Edge of the Empire is gonna last that long?

>>

>somewhat clunky and gets very broken after a certain level?
I'd say the same about FFG

Honestly, I'd play D6 over FFG purely for the fact that it does vehicles better than FFG. The scaling system in D6 works far better for having people vs vehicles, though RAW vehicle stats (especially weapons) seem to be clunky and inconsistant, though easily fixable if it bothers you.
>>
>>52051830
>>52051911
>>52051916
D6 vs. FFG is just a matter of preference IMO. From what I've seen D6 is less complex than FFG in some ways, while FFG is less complex in others. FFG handles regular combat much better, D6 handles vehicle combat better. FFG's space battles are confusingly intricate and take getting used to, D6 space battles are simplistic to a fault.

but at least we can all agree D20 is an abomination.

It's less of a nerf than you'd think. I've played Palp aces extensively, and you usually knew which roll you wanted to use him on anyway.

I wish they'd made him 5 points to make up for it, because he clearly isn't worth 8 any more, but I think he'll still get used.

>Autofire alone isn't too bad. You have to have the right weapon, and have to spend 2 advantages to trigger an additional hit.

While Jury rigged literally makes autofire twice as bad, it's still insanely good. The only penalty is that you add a single purple to the roll. This is the same penalty you get for two-weapon-fighting, but TWF is limited to a single hit with the off-hand weapon for that same 2 advantage, AND it has to be the same target while Autofire can be separate targets. And because it's unlimited, any improvement to your Ranged-Heavy skill is an improvement on Autofire. True Aim, rerolls, Accuracy, anything that can bring you more Advantage bring you more hits, because there's no limit.

Aces aren't going to be a thing Imperial side, at least for a while. In the interim they have been pushing the shuttle supports and mini-swarms.

Personally I think it's bullshit and absolutely crippling to the faction as a whole but I also see it as an opportunity for them to grow.
Palp was so good he strangled the variety out of Imperials and became mandatory.

Isn't that how the empire works though? The TIE fighter is a short range fighter that gets by on ok maneuverability and speed and is crammed full of some kid fresh out of the academy sent out to die. Pilots almost invariably live on either good orders or pure luck.

>According to official records, he never actually saw combat.
He was also in the SAS, so, that might not mean a whole lot.

No, it is. Yeah, you can usually guess where you're going to need the Palp prior, but NOW you're actually going to have to put your money where your mouth is as opposed to before where it was a magic fucking get out of jail free card for the entire turn.

Man though, I feel like lately FFG keep accidentially thwacking Fel over the head with the nerf hammer as he keeps being a bit too close to the thing they actually wanted to nerf.

Like how Slicer Tools was really supposed to be a Dengaroo counter that never worked, but with 3 HP to his name it sure can give the Fel a bit of a pause.
You'd have thought at least it would have seen more use against PTL Countess Ryad, but there you go.

Gimme Wargame 40,000 first at least.

I will always see Clark as being played by William Defoe thanks to Clear and Present Danger.
I find it helps.

That's the point. He's cultivated bland and generic, except for the OPERATING OPERATIONALLY bit. Tom Clancy has a monstrous chub for the anonymous operator shtick where the "washing machine repairman" is actually a stone cold assassin (of freedom, of course).

Toying around with some alternative builds for the Lambda that isn't the same old Palps crutch.

No, sometimes he is also a terrorist or communist as well.

Like that time Al-Queda managed to get a man into the Secret Service.

You know, for a dead guy, Tom Clancy has put out a lot of video games.

I mean, what happens when John Madden dies? Are they still going to be putting out Madden games in a Post-Madden universe? Will commentary begin to suffer from a somewhat reduced quote library of "Raaarghl", "BRAAAAAIN" and "Run it up the gut!"
