They made them so useful and continue to make them that way to ingrain the Hydra type in game as that. People like them and they look different enough from plane to plane to serve as a quick "Well that's different." sort of like a creature landmark. for reference, Nicol Bolas assumed the Planer Storms was unstoppable, and essentially asked Jeska for help.

I actually really like the innistrad dragons and most dragons in sets. Dragons just get a bad rep because people don't like opening a rare slot belonging to a dragon that isn't particularly good. Same thing with demons and angels. People like those card types so they are shoved into sets even if they don't fully mesh with it. Kudos to R&D for doing interesting things but demons still look wonky in Kaladesh more than dragons and vice versa for Innistrad.

To be honest, power levels of characters are left up to whatever highest accomplishment and spectacle they made or whatever card they were connected to.

And if you've been around only a little less time than I have(Came in during Scourge), you probably get the gist of who is stronger at what post Mending. Because everyone was a god who was a Planeswalker. And the other characters were on scales of strength on their own planes.

Though if it's not a popularity contest and taking present day into consideration, I opine that Emrakul is at the top of the list in terms of sheer power followed by Nicol Bolas and Ugin. Then we go toward the gods, oldwalkers who retain a lot of experience, skill and really good spellcraft like Liliana, Ob Nixilus, and Nahiri. Then the new breed Planeswalkers like the rest of the Lorwwyn 5 and various Legendary creatures we've seen throughout the story and on cards that can be particularly powerful by themselves.

I completely forgot about drakes. Zombie drakes seem fine. Stitchers seem more in abundance on Innistrad than dragons. I do know that Thalia has flavor text on one of the innistrad dragons which sorta implies them being rare on the plane.

I dunno, like I said, I ain't against these cards. They just awkwardly stick out to me. Nephalia Moondrakes feels very in flavor with the plane though, I dunno why. Maybe it's because they are night creatures or something.

Karn doesn't have to be smart, he's still got the superweapon called the legacy weapon stored in his silver body.

Gideon gets ranked the same as her because when he was like 15 he and his buddies killed Erebos' favorite titan, just like when Elspeth arrived on Theros she killed Nylea's favorite Hydra.
Then there was that time that Gideon would of killed Ob Nixilis had Ob not had the body and regenerative abilities of a demon.
Gideon may not be godslaying strong, but neither is Elspeth really, that needs to be pointed out.
She used a god slaying weapon and a weakness from when he was mortal to kill Xenagos. She didn't straight DBZ overpower him.

I like the idea of Conspiracy because I like the idea of a reoccurring normal-price set consisting (almost) entirely out of reprints.

WotC's original plan with Chronicles was to make it a yearly or bi-yearly thing, and I'm still mad that they got scared, aborted that and put down the reserved list instead. We'd be at Chronicles 20 by now.

Conspiracy is supposed to be this weirdo draft-only, multiplayer-only set, but the failure of Take the Crown (where they doubled down on the limited gimmicks) should show WotC that that part isn't exactly why people liked the original. People just desperately want reprints, not just of money cards but cards in general that they liked but missed out on for whatever reason.

I have somewhat mixed feelings on it, although it's purely about the home plane thing.

On one hand, it is probably good to introduce us to a planeswalker in an environment they consider home. We see where they fit in and get to learn a bit about the character in their natural habitat, and then can observe how things change when they wander off to another world.

On the other hand, a planeswalker can be anywhere in the multiverse, and so it does seem kind of odd to keep running into ones on the same plane they were born on.

Overall I think it is probably best to keep introducing walkers on their home planes, particularly if they haven't been neowalkers very long, but it does work well the other way sometimes. Part of Tamiyo's appeal was how much she stood out on Innistrad, an exotic factor Planeswalkers should have sometimes as outsiders in 99% of the planes in the universe.

Of course, Tamiyo being from Kamigawa might've also been a bit of a nod to how Innistrad and Kamigawa are both top-down sets.

Each seems to have a weapon, but they're no where near as varied or iconic as the Theros gods, excepting Bast and her bow. Do you think we'll get another round of God weapons too? Or are they just thrown into the art to tie the looks together? Nothing special.

Also, I want to add, with all the gold and iron worked directly into their bodies, could these gods be artifacts instead of enchants this time? Would love.
