>>51673859
>pointless suicide
That's what Mortarion wants for his soldiers though.
>>51673880
>>51673880
Mortarion doesn't give them permission to die. Every DG who dies has failed their primarch and legion for not enduring. Perturabo is the one who spend their lives like currency.
>>51673906

>>51673920

That's right perturabo your not suppose to kill your own guys.
>>51673975
Looks like an Altmer now.
>>51673997
>>51673945
in a Legion that regularly loses 70% of its operational strength in campaigns, i'd say that 10% is relatively light.
For All his flaws (and there are many) Perty's idea of spending men is valid when it comes to sieges, where you are never going to get through with pretty tactics (Alpharius aside). Corax attack on Gate 42 essentially tells us that.
>>51673920

>>51674141
Nevermind found it, thanks!
>>51673999
>tfw to intelligent to die at the Dropsite Massacre
>>51674128
And that is where statistics are misleading. Guillimans casualty ratio is lower, partially because the UM were a more flexible legion, and partially because UM combat record involves less sieges.
Given that 40K's sieges draw heavily from both WWI and starforts, its not unreasonable to assume that some of the logic applies to 40K as well. For the most part, you want artillery to both pin down the defenders, clear obstacles and on counter battery duty.
In the end, winning a siege doesn't really differ from being an IW, UM or WE, at some point, you will have to run the gauntlet in an attempt to crack open the enemy defensive line. The only major difference between legions would be the availability of artillery, supporting firepower and doctrinal differences.
The reason, why IMO, Corax threw a hissyfit when ordered to assault Gate 42 was because at that point, his legion had become overspecialized and lacked the supporting assets to effectively storm it.
the IW on the other hand, having a fondness for firepower, and a logistic train to back it up, had no issues, and would had more then enough artillery at hand to effectively pin down defenders, conduct counter battery ops, while at the same time doing a box barrage.
>>51673975
Holy shit he looks more like the Emperor now.

>>51674342

>>51674098
>where you are never going to get through with pretty tactics
Wat. Tactics apply to all theatres of warfare. Sieges can be broken through mining, through encirclement and starvation, through negotiation, through strikes by special forces on key logistical elements, through luring the enemy into making sallies that are then ambushed.
Pretty much anything is better than some autist sat there going 'I calculate I will take 78.5485% losses in this full frontal attack before victory. Acceptable. Order the advance.'
Just throwing men at the enemy guns because you can't develop an intelligent plan of attack is full-retard, Perturabo was just an unimaginative butcher.
>>51674098
IW had glorious geneseed to easily replace losses, so they could play the attrition game unlike say the Thousand Sons.
>>51674277
I think you ignore that perturabo literally has lore where IW marines suffer massive casualties and their praetors are censured for lacking appropriate zeal (maybe some has it). Face it Perty is just has little regard for his boys, and will spend them in outrageous numbers to get something done a bit quicker.

>>51674411
>Perturabo was just an unimaginative butcher.
That's just a meme caricature about him.
He was on top of his game in terms of planning and outfitting his forces, he just didn't care about the losses.
Perturabo would bring twice the artillery of everyone else, bombard a fort for two weeks then attack it with 50% casualties.
Dorn would bombard the fort for six weeks, then attack it with 10% casualties.
Guilliman would bombard it for five weeks, attack it with 15% casualties, and spend another five weeks writing a passage in the Codex Astartes about how he had perfected the art of siegecraft.

Because Guilliman encouraged them to actually interact and make friendships with mortals, so the whole idea of secret warrior societies wouldn't have appealed to them. The Lodges were all about seperating the Astartes from humanity.
The Luna Wolves et al saw themselves as exclusively superior, transhuman warriors, as seperate and distinct from humanity, that's why Horus got so upset when regular humans started being given places in the Imperial bureaucracy.
Ultramarines were taught to see themselves simply as enhanced humans, but still human.
To quote Guilliman; "the Astartes excel at warfare because they're designed to excel at everything. Now stop whinging, sit down and pay attention to the rest of my 37 hour presentation of the most efficient method of establishing tiered farming communities in mountainous regions to maximise food production for centralised distribution, I don't care if boltgun practise is 'more fun' "
Do the Custodes have any real answer to anti-air? Looking at my friend who's building an entire army of them to go with his World Eaters, and wondering if two Vulturax or a Lightning, or just anything that can fly could just cruise around blasting them at will.
They seem to have a lot of holes in their list, really. They excel at killing large numbers of Marines in melee and the occasional automata with ID, but that's about it as far as I can tell.
>>51674914
turns out 100,000 or 80,000 or 90,000 or 250,000 aren't remotely "nigh-unlimited", genius.

*SNAP*
>>51675051
And that is why you will never become one of the Emperor's finest warriors.
>>51675050
Nah, doubt they'd be played together, I think he just likes melee armies and wanted something a bit less vulnerable to Mechanicum and the other guy's EC and DG. They seem limited and expensive enough that I'd allow him to keep his bonuses, no need to have two mediocre armies allied together become worse.
Not even sure how you'd fluff Traitor Custosdes, you'd probably have to come up with some Fabius Bile super-soldier project #321314 and counts-as the rules.
>>51674846
That's almost Ancap-meme worthy.
>>51674849

>>51675071
>he says, despite the fact that the legion that spent it's spare time practising with bolters actually got shit done during the heresy
Reminder that Lorgar would have killed Guilliman if it weren't for the fact that that would have been bad for the traitors.
>>51675108
Hang on, so venting him into space without a helmet WASN'T meant to kill him?
>>51675108
He sicked a major daemon on him and vented him out into space without a helmet.
Both the Ultramarines and Word Bearers though he was dead. I'm pretty sure they meant for him to die.
Even Guilliman was surprised his biology allowed him to survive.
Lorgar was just inept.
>>51675160
He want to kill him, but he cannot do it personally because if he did traitors are fucked.
If Lorgar would confront Guilliman personally he will kill him.
>>51675160
>Even Guilliman was surprised his biology allowed him to survive.
Erebus, what does the augury scanner say about his plot armour?
>>51675160
>something that would surely kill anyone short of a Primarch
>attempted murder where even said Primarch is surprised to survive
>inept
Lorgar was incompetent in other ways but he knew what he was doing with Guilliman.
>>51675017
Is this difference because of the Primarchs' personalities? Seeing as how there were Luna Wolves who actively refused joining the lodges (Loken, Qruze), I'm surprised there isn't the opposite for the Ultramarines (Astartes who do consider themselves separate and superior from humanity). There's hundreds of thousands of the transhumans, surely there's room for some abnormalities.
>>51675139
>>51675160
Didn't fateweaver tell Lorgar not to kill him or Horus would lose? Are you telling me Lorger very nearly managed to fuck up NOT killing a Primarch?

Daily reminder the IW were assigned the difficult shit no one else could do.
You remember the IW's costly victories, I remember the UM's utter defeat at Gaardinal along their not-penal 500000 auxiliaries (the IHs had to bail them out), or the combined Gotta Go Fast force of SW and WS being repelled while Perturabo's children broke the stalemate, yet were left out from the honour rolls.
I'm not defending Perturabo. He was lacking and Guilliman was indeed noted by his tactical acumen (but he can't pick a Strategic Trait like Fulgrim)...but I do say you guys underestimate the IW a lot and by a long shot.
If the UMs were assigned to the jobs that inflicted IW-tier casualties, then his legion, for all his precious 500 worlds wouldn't surpass Dorn's in size.
The didn't already surpass him in fleet strength anyway.

But I really don't like the look of the Mastodon. It's just this big blob with details more or less randomly vomited on, and doesn't have enough weapons for it's size.
When I'm doing all the little details on the Filiketos I think I'll stick some extra heavy stubbers and such on a few of the railings, maybe an anti-air turret on the top that can't actually shoot, just for the look of the thing.

Anyone want to offer any input/advice?
Ok faggots i need the /tg/ anons opinions here - hard to get uncensored "the fuck are you doing faggot" recommendations on other sites.
Im going dick first into HH having spent a year in the hobby in total. Ive set my eye on my yiffs yet again since they are the only legion i identify with... go fuck yourselves they are 110% snow white norsemen..
Grey slayers load out: prospero gives you 3 10man squads of troops including sargeants.
Im giving them combat shields instead of bolters. With combat mettle their shooting is less than stellar making me run them instead of shooting. 8 ccw/shield, 1 two-handed chainsword, 1 fist + boltgun on sargeant with artificer armor. Add a vexila in there -maybe- per 10 man squad. Would this in any way be a bad idea? Are the 2pt bolter upgrade worth it?

Great frost blades would help the sarge more. Also full shields isn't as good as some will die on the way there, as a few 5pt power weapons so they actually kill things. Mounting them in rhinos would also help get them to places in you're not going over ten guys

I'd be pretty confident you could get a third-party modeller to make something similar. Human faces aren't copyrighted, after all.And if they sold it afterwards you could probably help out the EC poorfags.
>>51676805
>>51676795
I just assumed they were MkIV since they don't seem heavy duty enough to be MkIII. FW also pictures them on MkIV legs on their website.
>>51676880
True, but FW also put obviously MK3 stuff on the IF, for example.
A fair few legions (IF, WE, for example) have heads for Mark 2 that one would assume to be Mark 4, seeing how most people's view of the "Crusade" pattern is coloured by the Mark 3 and its heavy plate faces. This one might be something similar, designed to look best on Mark 2, but with some compatibility for Mark 4?

You asshole
So I've been thinking about this, and I wanted your guys input.
I'm considering running a Jump Destroyer unit in my TS army, making them Pyrae (Gives HoW, or 2 HoW attacks if unit already has the rule), and sending them out to fuck with quads, heavy weapon squads, and other backline targets.
The idea is 20 HoW attacks and 31 attacks on the charge, all with that sweet -1T from rad nades, could easily wipe more shooty backline infantry, and even if they don't die immediately, tie them up for a turn or so and give my dudes a bit more freedom to move.
I'd probably run them mostly barebones, since I imagine they wouldn't do a whole hell of a lot more most games.
Input?

Why we need eugenics: the post
http://www.spellcrow.com/space-knights-jump-packs-ver-p-297.html
What do you guys think of these mk IV jump packs?
Anybody have experience with Plasma Deredeos? The mix between Vindicator and Lascannon looks promising (and comparatively cheap for what it does), but I like to weigh experience too.
>want autocannon HS squad
>new FW autocannons don't look so hot
>old ones have the ammo feed that might be a pain to get in place properly/might not fit BoP backpacks

>when you planning siege but you run out of chocolate pudding
>>51678293
Speaking of the old-style autocannons, I was thinking of using one to convert onto a Warsmith, as some kind of Pedro Kantor-esque bolter.
Does anyone with experience of this set have any comments on the feasability of this, and the ease of placement of the ammo feed, which is the main thing?
Would an Iron Warriors legionary be as technologically adept as an Iron Hands legionary? The context being upkeep and modification of their power armor and their armaments.

Balance, I'm guessing. It's a lot easier to balance an entire system around just Titans and Knights without including infantry and vehicles.
Still, if people support the game and keep bugging them about wanting full Epic back, maybe they'll do it.
>>51678358
I've used them. You just attach the weapon, with feed, in arms, then, you warm the belt (hot water/hot air gun) and just push the ammo box onto the backpack, let it cool while holding it in place, then try to use capillary force to insert glue between ammo and backpack.
>>51676465

>>51678538
If they made full HH epic it would cannibalize some 30k 28mm sales. In fact I think it would cannibalise many 30k sales.
Some other anon said the titans they are making are 8mm scale not 6mm anyways.
>>51678855
OK then. You won't be wanting Vorax or Thallax, you are plenty mobile already.
Maybe a couple big Thrall units to hold down the backfield damn well for pennies while you Go Fast? Also Vulturax are always good and you can take up to 3 in the unit, go nuts.
Castys are vanilla - dependable and useful, but not exactly what you're looking for.
A Thanatar is always a nice surprise, and can drop a nice shiny S8 AP2 Cover -1 and must be Rerolled large blast on something. Two, with some cybertheurgy, since one of the powers basically gives a robot Fury of the Legion.
I would suggest something like:
Magos Dominus w/ Machinator Array
20 Thralls, Fearless and 4++
1 Vult, or two if you have the pts.
as a nice allied detatchment, since the Dominus can buff the Vulturax to shoot twice, then you jink a turn, fly off the board to avoid the second then come back with everything ready to shoot again. Hide the Dominus in the Thrall unit, probably.
Other tricks:
Unit of 4 Automata and 2 Enginseers, all with servo-arms.
Cheap and gives 2 guaranteed repairs for the Sicarians, plus one more on a 3+ from the Dominus, and can dump quite a few S8 AP2 Powerfist attacks if you need them.
Alternatively, grab some Myrmidons: Secutors for haywire spam or loads of S6AP3 Dakka, or Destructors for AP3 Fleshbane Torrent or 40k grav, even a squad of 3 can fire 12 shots hitting and wounding on 2+ Preferred Enemy, and melt Primarchs easily.
They need a Triaros, though, so expensive.
Really, just pick a toy from the list that isn't a Domitar or a Scyllax, everything else is reliably decent.

This is such poor thinking. It leads to nonsense like not doing blood bowl for years because it might damage the core lines, then being surprised when it sells out really fucking fast and makes a load of money. It also leads to silliness like not doing breacher shield or Mk IV jump pack upgrade sets because they want to protect their breacher and assault squad sets, when all that does is drive people to 3rd party sites.

But think about it this way. Say you got a good solid product. A competitor makes an alternative product and makes money with that. Now imagine you made both versions and got the money from both. People who want 6mm games are not gonna go "well, there's no option, so I'll just play 28mm scale." They'll find it. And they give their money to not-GW.
You'd be surprised how many non-brand products are made by the same company as the brand product, sometimes even at the same factory. They're just maximizing their profits to provide you (at least the illusion of) a choice.

>>51679392

>>51679431
I just want them to make it with infantry and tonks. But the cynical part says you make it 8mm so they need new models
>>51679420
Why is that one rhino backwards?
>>51679420
>I think its stupid to deny it would cannibalise some sales.
All the 6mm non-GW stuff already is and GW's not making any money off of them. Sure, you might not be able to play Apic Heres Horusy in a GW store, but they're hardly the only stores of clubs in the world. Where I live there's 1 GW store in the entire country and the FLGS has been cutting down on GW stuff greatly, because it's just not profitable and kids just order everything online anyway.
Bottom line, 6mm is ALWAYS gonna cut into GW's sales, question is whether or not GW wants to make money off of it or not.
The way Titanicus rules currently look I think FW is probably going to cut Epic into two games; Titanicus for Titan on Titan and Not!Epic for Infantry and vehicles or into two other games for Infantry vs Infantry and Tanks vs Tanks.
>>51679447
It may be part of it. But the niche of people that
1. have full original or 3rd party epic armies and
2. actually play the game
is very small. They wouldn't lose much from people playing with old models since so few people still play to begin with.

>>51680587
I see someone else got the Masters of the Chapter dude as well.
I'm planning on giving him the old GW MkIII IW helmet (one without horns) with a crest, a power fist on the left arm (mine came without weapons) and a combi-melta on the right hand. He'll be leading my Breachers.
>>51680587
The right, I am tempted to say.
What's his role? If an IW is going to be thinly-ornamented, then deliberate brute simplicity as seen in the Mark 3 armour is a better guideline.
Personally I think the sleeker, more decorative parts go well on a model that's covered with crude, brutish gear. Perturabo is a good example of this, as is the Warpsmith model from 40k CSM. It's clearly got one of the IW special helmets, just slightly chaos-ified.
The IW's aesthetic combines brutality with just enough decoration to be off-putting and keep the enemy guessing as to how smart their opponent really is.
Also isn't the Aquila not a thing outside the Emperor's Children?

Nope Aquilas are fine on loyalists, it's Palatine Aquilas that are EC's property. From what I understand the slight visual difference are the wings that are more curved and don't stop at 90 degrees but a wee bit higher and a thunderbolt under each eagle.

Please report to your nearest village, as they are missing their idiot!
Thanks for your help!

The plasma version is lame and costly. Auto cannons with ML. Best setup. Get s leviathan as well, since the RoW buffs all dreads. Worry about the reaver when you play games that actually need it. Baby steps

>Deredeo looks like an bigger Contemptor
That's been the unfortunate victim of a looney tunes anvil.
>And boxnaughts belong in 40k
Absolutely disgusting, boxnaughts are the cutest dreads, and the models can give you high-5s.
>>51681195
...and here we see the anon try and make a rational argument, but, alas, fail miserably to formulate more than a petty ad hominem. Such is the cruel reality of online discussion.
>>51681200
OK buddy cheers for the advice! I think I'll go for that version of Deredeo then, keep him cheap and get a Leviathan later.
Any load out best for Levi, I was thing melta and claw?
I'll keep the Reaver shelved for a while then. Ta

Sorry, but was already disappointed by the previous green text and saw red.
At least this >>51681213 made me smile. But if I high-5 my models they tend to stab me, the ungrateful little buggers after painting them and putting a roof over their heads!
>>51681363
>But if I high-5 my models they tend to stab me
That's because you use shitty, edgy, spikey FW knockoff dreads, instead of eternally loyal and unspikey castaferrums.
>>51681406
touché and check-mate! I concede your point there
>>51681406
i have combined my castaferrum and contemptor dreadnought in an unholy blend of SCIENCE! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh..The... Horror of it....How could you...? You....you, monster!!

It's my attempt at making contemptor cortus dreds
>>51681733
I'm not sure... I don't not like it. I think it has charm, if armless.....
But that looks like something a filthy traitor would have on itself, a hanging from its waist!!
WTF does Blessed Autosimulacra do on a fucking Vulturax? I can't find the fucking rule for its effect on MC's anywhere...
>>51681782
Nice idea, good out of the box thinking. Or with the box thinking!!!
I'll get my coat....
It's late and I'm tired

6+ IWND?
>>51680870
>That's EXACTLY why they did it anon. The whole 'well infantry look better in 8mm' is the Kool aid the retard apologists gulp down.
The idea that old players (with old GW epic models, ignoring 3rd party stuff) won't buy new epic Heresy era models because they already have tons of crappy old mkvii and mkvi is ridiculous. If that reasoning had any merit, the 28mm Horus Heresy stuff would have flopped because everyone already has tons of marines so why buy more marines?

Thanks!
Would it be possible to have a projected Flare Shield? Thinking up some homebrew rules for the Filiketos Gunship and I'm thinking it trades Void Shields for a Flare and has the same projection capability as the Stormbird. It also has no transport capacity, but instead has the upper deck and gondola that act as Fortification battlements, and they can be boarded by getting to base contact with the thing, and disembarked from the marked areas (Sections with no railings, slightly lower deck and hazard stripes that actually denote danger for once). Lots more anti-infantry weapons all over it, but it costs 950 base and loses the Orbital Strike option. It's meant to be more supportive but less outright destructive.
Also forced to hover at all times, but still can't be hit with blast weapons, so similar effect to the rule on the Tau Manta.
May be a bit too strong, will need to test it.
>>51681809
Be the same 6+ IWND it functionally is for vehicles? It's not a point of contention like the Flare Shield, RAI is fairly clear.
baker anon, baker anon, bake me a fresh bread as fast as you can.
>>51682035
Yeah, I would've bought tons of new 6mm models. The old ones are really old, and look it.
I'll still get a few of the new titans though.
>>51676129
What are they just going to run into each other?
>>51676194
How heavy must that thing be?
Finally finished painting my Kharybdis, I want to fucking kill myself. It came out decent, but I could tell it hates me the entire time. Not a good experience for either of us.

say you were forced to take a hellfire deredeo, what would you use for belly weapons and launcher or pavaise? (assuming RG legion)
asking mostly because I want to onclude one for looks alone eventually, and figuring out good ways to use it is on my to-do list.

While I agree with you, remember that this is an expensive, niche market. Any new game using their IP will likely cannibalize some sales, since people only have but so much expendable income. So, a company needs to know whether the new game would bring in enough completely new sales that it would make up for the sales it cannibalized from other products, on top of it's development costs.
The higher ups in FW and GW probably assume that Epic wouldn't, which feels wrong to me, but I'm not a market analyst and the resin limitations are an honest problem.
I will say that the biggest thing that would stop it from making enough money isn't the market pool or appeal, but the fact that they don't sell FW products anywhere other than their own website. If they went to the trouble of actually making select FW resin products available at retail (preferably at their stores AND LGS's) they'd probably see more sales in the long run.
