It looks alright, but I'll say this I've NEVER had fun playing Trostani. I have all the pieces I need for a decent deck and every time I throw it together it's just boring. I'm someone who likes big stompy creatures and token shenanigans, but she never feels like I'm actually doing anything other than sitting there, playing fatties and gaining life. Even winning isn't fun for me.

YMMV, but she is my least favorite Sensodyne Commander.

We do this at my lgs every so often. except uncommons and commons only in the deck. No Karn or Ugin either.

I'm running Freyalise Elves. I might switch to Nissa Vital Force because of the ease of ultimating and card recursion or i might do Garruk Wildspeaker for the overrun. I haven't decided yet mostly because my playgroup has been too busy to test lately.

I have 20 wastes in mine and 17 non basics, but I'm also only running 11 mana rocks. If you stick in 20 mana rocks I'm sure you can get away with 10 wastes. As far as equipment, you can stick in literally anything. I've got the boots, a couple swords, champion's helm, and hedron matrix for the dank flavour. I highly recommend you use a darksteel forge since you rely on artifacts so much and also an urza's incubator and helm of awakening.

Voltaic Key helps break down the problem with the rocks, for one; it also interacts favourably with any mana rock that produces two mana, meaning it can be considered a pseudo-rock.

Basalt is also a combo-piece, but barring that accelerating into a critical piece or card can be more than enough - like for casting your Kozilek so you can draw cards. Mana Vault helps you pump out better rocks early, but should be used to get out some stax pieces.

Does anyone still play Damia Sage of Stone? I know Leovold and Tasigur are better BUG choices but I like the Gorgon. I have 2 deck ideas floating around my head.

1 Damia lands matter. More or less gitrog plus blue.

2 Damia rooftop storm zombies. This deck will most likely be awful but vomitimg zombies out of my hand every turn might be fun.

Hell, self mill might even be cool. If anyone has cool deck ideas or stories id love some insight.

No, Basalt doesn't really combo with Voltaic Key, unless there's an interaction with another card I'm unfamiliar with. Basalt with Voltaic nets you five mana, versus the normal three, but that's not a combo.

Basalt Monolith combos with Rings of Brighthearth, which is an overall damn good and fun card. Produces infinite mana by copying untap triggers.

Most decks can use a good combo to help them close out games, and this is a really easy one for any colourless deck to run. Even if you don't like combos for some strange reason, Rings and Basalt are valuable enough on their own to include.

I just realized I don't have a "turn creatures sideways" deck, which is definitely the preferred style of my group and I think they're getting sick of my combo shit. What commander would be good for just straight attacking while still maintaining a Johnny feel?

Yes.
Even if you take the deck apart, you have a dual for trade fodder, or one for another deck.

it's a big investment, so don't just buy them for any deck. I own a playset of every dual land, and it just makes landbases much easier.

No, I have separate decks for that. Not because of budget or anything, just because I don't want to build a specific sideboard tuned against only 10~ people. Since then it would be easy to run choke, boil, blood moon, just swap out the appropriate landhate to taste.

How do I into U/B tokens? I want to build Vela the Night-Clad, but I don't want to go the flicker route since I already have a Brago deck. So instead, I want to go really wide with tokens, and just get value out of board wipes. However, I've never built a token deck before and these colors aren't jumping out at me as EZ token decks. Any help would be appreciated

This is what my build looked like a few months back, i've changed a couple bits and pieces but its still similar. Run cyclelands, stuff like myriad landscape, and then of course your payoffs, ramp into big dumb beaters. Tooth and nail into Surrak + Pathbreaker usually does the job.

For budget cuts, you can take out Cabal Coffers + Urborg easily, Oracle of Mul Daya, while crazy strong, isn't necessary, throw in a cheaper wipe than All is Dust, Sylvan Library is just value and replaceable and maybe another tutor or the cheaty Garruk instead of Tooth and Nail. Theres easily over $100 cut off the price.

As long as you have enough lands that send themselves to the graveyard and stuff like Grapple with the Past and Grisly Salvage, your deck just draws itself.

That's just normal ramp, fast mana is different. Fast mana is something that produces more mana than it costs the turn it comes down. Pretty much all lands, the moxen, sol ring, mana crypt, mana vault, grim monolith and a few others are fast mana. Fast mana is also generally one of the most overpowered things in magic, this is why most of these cards (except for lands) are banned in most formats, and why grim monolith is 50 bucks while basalt costs nothing.

Well, hatebears is a good choice, but if it's really a tournament, the things you have to worry about are:

I wouldn't care a lot about things like Nekusar, Infect, Oloro, or various "group hug" decks, because if the price is a box of EM, people are going to be smart enough to see through the traditional bullshit. Your best bet is to have a deck that locks the board down, then combos off. I like Saffi, because Gaddock Teeg can shut people out hard, but maybe consider something pure degenerate like Memnarch mass bounce and stax into various artifact combos, or Lazav discard and copy spells, using things like pestilence to unleash the hate once Lazav is too strong, while also peaking into problematic players hands.

The final part is, you have to be aware of politics. I've played in a tournament like that, and because I flew under the radar with a budget deck for the first 3 rounds, I got hated out once I hit the final table, though the prize distribution discourages that. I bet a strong mid-range deck with a bunch of double strike and removal would also cause people a lot of problems.

Another interesting thing about competetive tables is that they are very sparing with counterspells.

They will keep them in order to prevent others from comboing off, or locking down the table.

This means that cards like Hero of Bladehold which rapidly spiral out of control can hit the table and actually deal substantial amounts of damage, as people underestimate the threat they present

Titiania will draw a lot of hate after the first couple games, just as a heads up. I built an artifact combo deck with Jori-En as my commander because Memnarch and Darietti draw too much hate for the same strategies. The "hidden commander" trick is neat in mono green because you have such high quality tutors, and can always birthing pod whatever you actually want out there. Nylea is a mean choice, particularly if you can pull of the tutor shenanigans.

I thought this was funny as well, which is why I suggested something midrangey. There are far fewer spike/timmy players than there are spike/johnny players because timmy usually switches sides in the conversion to a spike. As a result, people prepare for combo, and they prepare for stax, but they don't have the same ferocity with removal that a lesser playgroup is going to have, because they have better card evaluation skills. It`s the reason I won with Ghave so much, because my board went from durdle town USA with some extra mana to instant speed combo with replaceable parts in one turn, but set up like a mid-range beatdown deck. I-I`m going to do it anons. I`m going to make my first monored deck. It's a tough choice between Feldon, New Grenzo and Hidestugu. I'm planning on using damage doublers like gratuitious violence, beserker's onslaught and dictate of the twin gods to smash people extremely hard square in the jaw. Feldon is the most appealing to me because I want to run looting effects to facilitate artifact shenanigans, and reanimating Kiki-jiki seems spicy as fuck, but I love the idea of low cost, efficient commanders, and hidestugu literally is built for this type of deck, though probably too dickish.

Anything I should keep in mind, or is monored pretty hard to fuck up, considering the path I'm on?

What are some fun things I can do in red?

I wanted to run a bunch of rampy artifacts I have lying around in order to pull off nonsense like Hamletback Goliath and Warstorm Surge. Where I think I'm going to have the most trouble is with low cost utility creatures because I'm very unfamiliar with red in general. I have the odd goblin, like a rabblemaster, a piledriver, and probably something else, but I've heard goblins are never worth it unless you go balls deep in krenko/zada.

The trouble with red is that low cost spells are either artifact destruction or goblins. You'll need to go deep researching spells with CMC 4 or minus with a focused mind on what you want to accomplish. Feldon runs on looters and big dumb stuff though, you'll just need some ways to protect him like boots, Pyroblast-like spells or Shunt-like spells.

Since you want to do artifact shenanigans don't forget to pack your Trading Post. It's the cheapest planeswalker you'll get with some cool synergies.

Now what I think you're trying to say is, I should ramp as hard as I possibly can, so I don't need to worry about finding efficient cards. I usually build decks with a bunch of low-cost draw spells that let me sift until I hit my ramp/reanimator/combo pieces, then play things above curve to compensate for my shitty low-cost cards, but that strategy is pretty flimsy when you encounter good players with answers in their hand.

i've been dreaming of a rakdos reanimator deck for months but the main thing stopping me is the lack of a good commander. none of them really feel good for a timmy reanimator style deck. rakdos, lord of riots is sort of getting there but not really

let's hope commander 2017 is the praetors revisited and the urabrask one is a rakdos haste enable with some reanimation synergy or something. that'd be fun

With that wording it would combo infinitely with itself in any non-singleton format, if it's legendary (which it would have to be). Cards that combo with themselves are generally a no-go.

See, ETB effects and reanimator always scare me off a little bit because of Nim Deathmantle. Think of it this way:
>I slap nim death mantle on urabrask, sac it to ashnod's 3 times, reanimate six creatures with haste for 6 colourless and swing for 40 annihilator 6

I like double devotion in two colours because it means in order to abuse the effect, you need to generate a specific amount of both red and black mana, and that's hard to do above curve without doubling cube. You can also use the effect the same turn he comes out, but since you take damage equal to CMC, you aren't going to want to reanimate a bunch of eldrazi or big black/red nonsense, you're going to have to be strategic.
