So I wanna build an interactive blue green deck that counters spells and generates value and shit. Either counter something each turn or draw cards with some fof like shit and get value off rashmi, not necessarily cheating anything remarkable into play all the time. What I'm wondering is two things:
What are some good ug flashy utility creatures like mystic snake and draining whelk?
What are some win conditions in such a deck, preferably fair with like one emergency combo?
>>
Which should I get, a Cryptic Command or Pact of Negation? Pact lets me protect my combos without worrying about mana costs, but Command is generally more useful.

Here you go brohemian, my list:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/04-01-17-rashmi-control/

I don't run any flashy UG value creatures, they just don't do enough for the deck. The ones that are there very good at what they do.
I don't believe there's any viable win condition in group commander that isn't a form of combo, or heavy stax. So in that case I run top/helm/leyline of the future with laboratory maniac as a way of winning when I have control of the board. I can usually convince even very anti combo groups that this is necessary, as how else could I ever win the game? Sphinx beats?
If that's not your speed I suppose you could try a bit if spice like Helix pinnacle.

>>51529451
It's not.
>>
>>51529451
DESU I think mash and pile shuffling are all anyone does with sleeves. Rifle shuffling a 100 card double sleeved monster seems impossible, not that I see anyone do it with 60 cards either.>>51529451
>>
>>51529451
I mean you might hit the edges together just right and split a sleeve open, but I've been playing magic for 14 years and that's only happened to me once ever.
>>
>>51529451
Grab both halves of the deck in each hand.
Set the middle of the length of one pile on the edge of the other pile.
Gently let the half touching the corner half "slide" together into one pile.

Do this a few times (4-5) then cut twice.

It's really simple
>>
>>51529616
Not sufficiently random, IIRC you want to shuffle 20 times for a 100 card deck
>>
Are there any notably good EDH viable instant speed burn/removal spells? I'm playing maelstrom wanderer face smash and I'd love something that can act both as an early removal and late game finisher. Basically I'd like to run lightning bolt but at higher cmc and impact. I've got warstorm surge in that "slot" right now but it seems a bit too win-morey and janky
>>
>>51529717
>Instant speed burn
In EDH? Lol no. You can try your luck with some X spells, but that seems bad in Maelstrom.

>Removal
Hell yeah, stuff like beast within, pongify, rapid hybridization and krosan grip are all in your colors.

>>51529231

Mind's Dilation is a must have. It is such a fun card that can generate so much value for you.

When your opponent casts their first spell, it triggers Mind's Dilation, which has a good chance of netting you one of their spells, which you can cast for free. That triggers Rashmi, which means a card draw at worst and another free spell at best. Plus the spell from Rashmi resolves before the spell from Mind's Dilation which resolves before the spell your opponent cast in the first place meaning you have a ton of options on how you can react before the opponent can do anything. It's so fun.

>>

It's a pathetic and douchey move to put cards in your deck for no reason other than to counter a specific player.

I sincerely hope the Kruphix player in question wasn't his friend. If they were, hopefully they aren't anymore.

You're fucking stupid. If one deck is a problem in your meta it's a right fine fucking dandy idea to put silver bullets in your deck for it.

>>
>>51530950
The only one pathetic here is you. Anon states that the card works well even against other decks. Also, who gives a shit if they're friends or not? If a person gets so assblasted over a card game, clearly it's a dumbass that should grow thicker skin.
>>
>>51530950
That's stupid, if someone has a deck that's too fast sometimes you have to throw in mental misstep to stop him. Making your deck worse just because you're trying to be fair to everyone can lead to one deck dominating

You guys are all so fucking bad, holy shit. If you have to tailor your deck to beat a single person, you're a bad player. Your deck should be built well enough to handle any threats, not built specifically to hose a single dude's commander.

That's like putting lifegain hate in your deck because one person in your group has an Oloro or Karlov deck that you hate. Sure, it's pretty fucking useless most of the time, but YOU'LL SURE AS FUCK BE READY IF YOU HAVE TO FACE THAT GUY!

Grow the fuck up.

One reason is they might already have the khans fetches, another is that certain decks "require" multiple fetches because of the deck thinning meme despite only 2 lands being worth grabbing with fetches, paying 1 life to grab a basic is something that can't be given a positive light

You can't reorder your library while searching through it.
So say if you're tutoring for something, in a sanctioned event you're violating game rules by pulling potential tutor targets out to consider which one you want before shuffling the rest back in.

I'm not saying Uril is some monstrous unstoppable deck or anything, but holy fuck someone thinks it's on the same tier as vehicle tribal?

Shit list, maybe tier 1 is accurate but beyond that it's a joke. Also what the fuck is with .5s, just add a new tier, it's not like there's only one or two decks there.
>>
>>51533852
>>51533814
It's really a rule that was made up specifically because of Selvala, Explorer Returned + Panglacial wurm. Because you can draw a card while trying to cast Panglacial wurm from your library, and you can't undo a draw, then you have to keep the library order in tact because otherwise you could cheat by pulling tutor targets and then activating Selvala to cast him, and draw them without them actually being at the top of your deck.
>>
>>51533806
Damn, we're all in Bakersfield.

I actually just threw a Queen Marchesa deck together, comes in around $100ish. Haven't actually tried it out yet though, as I literally just finished putting it together, so I can't testify as to how effective it is.

Main game plan is to hop into your bubble, however you want to assemble it, and point people away from you until you can do stupid shit. Stuff like Phyrexian Unlife and Repay in Kind, just sit with a few turns with Skyline Despot as monarch, or wait until someone drops Storm herd or Krenko's for more gobbos than their life and Sunforger in a Rakdos Charm.

Cheatyface was never designed nor intended to be played that way. It's just a common misconception people have about the card.

I had one friend who told me he disliked the un-sets, and one of the main reasons was that a player could just sneak in 100 Cheatyfaces into play at any time and win.

Just the most hardcore finetuned bullshit decks but they just can't stand it when I pull out my elves.
Constantly wins turn 4-5 slapping the other 4 players with half a million damage.
By drawing and playing my whole deck in a friend group that doesn't allow infinite combos.
It dose that by having a million draw outlets, mana making elves and untap shenanigans with the appropriate anthems.

I'm pretty sure the Ultimate Guard flip'n'tray can fit a hundred double-sleeved card + a reasonable number of tokens, it's just that the deck tray is a millimetre or so too narrow to fit dragon shield sleeves, so you need to turn it sideways, which fits the width of the card, but can't perhaps hold a 100 double-sleeved cards.

It can, though, fit a 100 single-sleeved cards and like 15 tokens.

I've started switching from Satin Towers to these, mainly because they fit my card carrier better. They're pretty decent, fit 100 double sleeved cards + tokens alright, just be gentle when using them.

They're like $5 from your LGS.

I shoot for interaction. While there's nothing wrong with a pillowfort deck, I would rather play against a pillowfort deck that has a wincon other than "Everyone scoops in frustration."

I want my opponents to be able to respond to my spells, to make choices about what creatures they need to block, to consider what I might be holding in my hand. I don't find turtling up without a purpose to be fun. I also don't find instant-win combos to be fun, either.

Does this mean my decks aren't very competitive? Yeah, they're casual. But so is my group.
>>
>>51539963
Could you trim up an unused sleeve to put in the bottom of the deck box?
>>
>>51540645
Pillowfort is basically multiplayer control. Instead of killing threats, you make sure they don't threaten you.

What are possible factors that go into choosing whether I want to include Arcane Laboratory or Rule of Law in a deck? Assuming I have no color-related interactions, do I want to include the one in the color I have less of in my deck?

I'd love some input on this Alesha deck I put together. It's my first non-green EDH deck and also the first time I've really done anything with any recursion outside the usual green staples. I'm looking for more things to get stuff into my yard (a la Entomb) and to let Alesha swing with impunity (Reconnaissance and Iroas).

Hi kruphix player, stay salty
>>
>>51532228
You should tailor your deck to beat specific strategies but don't use "silver bullet" cards. Like maybe there's a Kruphix deck in your meta and maybe that card is good against it but if you're not playing against that deck, you'll wish that card was anything else.
>>
hey guys, i'm getting tired of being fucked by my EDH playgroup and need a new deck. My current decks are Krenko and Anya the merciless angel. I keep getting rekt by my friends who play Talrand, Brago, Meren and a few other equally degenerate decks.
Does anyone have suggestions of which commander i should build a new deck with? I like Stax and prison decks that have combos in it to win the game

Sure, but then what?
>>

Well, how does control win?

You either finish with off with an unbeatable bomb after everyone has spent their resources, make an infinite combo, and/or make everyone else quit the game in disgust after you lock them out.
>>
>>51541240

You know those sort of contests that morning zoo radio shows do every now and then where they have a fancy new car or whatever and all the contestants have to put a hand on it and whoever stays touching the car the longest wins it?

You just win at that game instead of winning at mtg.

I mean there's some collateral damage, because it's symmetrical, so you could be giving somebody a combo piece, but it seems like it would be easy to mill everybody out very fast with it

They couldn't play any creatures until it was gone, otherwise they'd be giving you more mill triggers

In my opinion if your deck wants arcane lab OR rule of law, it wants both

I suppose if you got all the possible tutors maybe not, but idk, I like a little redundancy in my singleton decks

>>
>>51533075
My friend plays those two decks, he's a lot better than us, and we are all super bad at focusing him. He wins probably 90% of our games.
>>
>>51541460
Fair point. I am however thinking about inclusion of the card as a redundancy for Mana Maze in the Possibility Storm lock, and I tutor everything up with Enduring Ideal anyway, so I'd be fine with just one of them.

Rule wins on flavor and art grounds, but Laboratory is blue, and I'm already too white-heavy...
>>
>>51533381
>>51541221
I do realize I still have to pay the cost. But Xenagod as your Commander mitigates the downsides enough for me. I like a hasty 18/15 with trample out of nowhere!
>>
>>51541590
You can pretend a card randomly fell out of your library while searching, and be like "whoops, I guess I'm attacking with this, lol" and pay the mana.
>>
>>51533334
Silent Arbiter and Crawlspace seem like good options to cover your ass.

https://edhrec.com/commanders/heartless-hidetsugu
>>
>>51541611
I know the card is not optimized in the slightest, but the ability is just so janky and unique that I can't not play the damn guy. It also helps that it fits really well into your typical Xenagos build, since you want big creatures and ramp anyhow.
>>
>>51541564

Mana maze + poss storm isn't really a lock tho right? Only against mono color decks

Anyway I have the same deck going myself, enduring ideal as the finisher, with poss storm and arcane lab or rule of law to seal the deal

Wasn't running mana maze but I do think it's cool you can cast it and enduring ideal in the same turn (fetching poss storm). Normally I get other shit with enduring ideal first (like privileged position or solitary confinement) and then close it out with arcane lab into poss storm or something
>>
>>51541564

Remember if you draw rule of law, you can't fetch it with enduring ideal, which can gum up your combo

Gotta play rule of law first, then next turn enduring ideal
>>
>>51541647
>Mana maze + poss storm isn't really a lock tho right? Only against mono color decks
Yes, only against monocolor decks, and if they're not casting an artifact. But even in multicolored decks, they fizzle often enough, plus there's always a high chance of just storming into a dud.

I like Mana Maze because it also protects me from counterspells if I play a blue spell, it's one mana cheaper than Laboratory, and you're not the biggest dick on the table if you use it with Possibility Storm.

>>51541695
The great thing is that Enduring Ideal doesn't cast the enchantment I fetch up, it just puts it into play, so I can safely get Rule of Law.
>>
>>51541695
Disregard >>51541761 - I see what you mean.

Well that's why I want the redundancy.
>>
>>51541761

>enduring ideal doesn't cast the enchantment

Right, what I meant was enchantments can get stuck in your hand once the epic trigger has gone off, that's why I like a little redundancy. Possibility storm getting stuck in your hand is a problem too, because then if you play it first, enduring ideal would be a random sorcery, and if you don't play it first, you won't have it available to enduring ideal into

What my deck has been doing in that situation is trying to ramp really hard and draw my library essentially (it's an enchantress deck) and then I play leyline of anticipation and flash in the combo so none of the pieces disrupt each other

I actually have some convoluted ways to get enchantments that are stuck in my hand after casting Ideal. One is discarding them with a full hand at the end of turn, then recurring them with Starfield of Nyx or Mistveil Plains.

I was also considering including Trade Routes in my deck for the purposes of discarding and flood prevention.

Mostly the issue is just solved by having multiple combo packages and wincons.

it's still pretty fun to make these things, seeing my big ol box of decks makes me smile
>>
>>51542227

Idyllic tutor is one of the best cards in the deck for me, I have a lot of silver bullets like stony silence and rest in peace, rule of law can also be a silver bullet against storm or any deck that plans on having a huge turn like elves. Also it's very useful to be able to search up a sterling grove or something if I expect removal to be coming my way

Argivian find has been decent, only cast it a couple times, it's basically a 1 mana Regrowth in my deck since all the important cards are enchantments (except enduring ideal)

Yeah enduring ideal has been more of my backup plan in this deck, in the 6 or 7 games Ive won with it so far, I more often win by comboing treachery + Cloudstone curio + mana doubler + enchantress, which seems complicated, but once I have a mana doubler and enchantress(es), it's easy to find the other pieces. And quarantine field has been one of the best cards in my deck, being a great mana sink for mana doublers and also just value when I can remove one or two key things and probably draw a card or two at the same time

i actually realized it would be an aesthetical flaw. if i put a handle on it and carry it around, the coalition insignia would be upside down, and that would really grind my OCD gears. i always put the box in my sports bag when i carry it around anyway so the handle isn't really necessary.

The problem with Selvala is that it produces an uncertain amount of mana, so you can end up in a situation where you don't have enough mana to cast it yet drew the top card (that you looked at).l

So I finally got the rest of my cards for my Dapala NASCAR deck. Just put the finish touches on it. I played a rough draft of it last night with filler cards instead and it worked surprising well.

There are a few more adjustments I want to make but I'll be working on them later. I'm just happy to have a Boros deck that functions pretty well now. Granted, it's still "turn dudes sideways" the deck, but this time I get to say "Vroom Vroom" when I do it.

50 bucks would probably be the amount that i'd have to get to make per box to at least stay in the black. but then shipping could knock that up even higher.

seems like these guys are in the deckbuilding biz as well and they charge $50+ dollars per box, and those boxes look like they've been made as cheaply as possible.

https://wyrmwoodgaming.com/product-category/products/deckandcardboxes/classicdeckbox/

i'm guessing that selling hand-made deck boxes isn't very profitable. the demand just isn't really there. i like building these things but i'm not sure i'd be willing to make it a "job" and earn very little doing it at the same time.

>>51543919
yeah basically the problem is that there is a lot of time that goes into making a single box and i'm just some fucko with a spray can of lacquer. the materials to make one of the smaller boxes probably cost about 13+ bucks, give or take, and it takes at least about 2.5+ hours to make one. that's assuming no fuck-ups

however making that big deckbox ironically wasn't nearly as hard as making one of the smaller boxes. the materials for it cost about 30ish bucks. if i charged 100 dollars for a larger deckbox that holds 9 decks, i'd actually be able to make a bit of a profit in the process and hopefully it would be more reasonable for the customer as well. that's just my opinion though.
