Some colors will require you to paint a surface more than once to get a solid color, but if you don't thin it, every time you put paint down you'll leave brush marks, ridges of pushed around paint, and tiny bumps of dry paint when it dries. This gets worse and worse each time you paint that area. Thinned paints don't have this problem because most of it is thinner or water which will dry without leaving bumps or marks, allowing you to paint that area as many times as you need without worrying about paint buildup or gunking up details.

CCS needs its own Chimera.
Trade in 1 Chimera from each squadron so you can give those veterans (and CCS) special weapons that will be bolstered by the CCS's orders (One plasma, One Flamer, One Melta, and the CCS gets whichever you need more of).

Consider, but not necessarily needed, some bane wolfs for MC hunting.

Finally, if you have the points, upgrade one of the valkyries to a vendetta. Now you have Air anti-tank, tank anti-tank, and infantry anti-tank. You got anti-MC tank and anti-MC infantry. You got anti-infantry infantry, anti-infantry tank, and anti-infantry air. Now you cover all possibilities in a single list!
>>

Seems weird because, while he's referred to as a "Living" Saint, he was only canonized after his death.

I'm pretty sure he's only considered a Saint because of his accomplishments and popularity, although he did have a few miracles happen, like being shot in the chest by a bolt shell that failed to detonate.
>>
>>51317161

I'm curious about this as well.

I play Space Marines but I think Sentinels look cool as hell and would be half tempted to ally some Guard into my army if they are any good.
>>
>>51317216
Saints are always canonized after death - the idea is the recognition doesn't come in your life.

Living Saints in 40k are essentially Daemons of the Emperor, as they are composed either from the Emperor's psychic will or called by the faithful.

A single armoured sentinel with multilaser or heavy flamer can tie up entire units without access to s6 or haywire melee attacks. Perfect for fucking over large conscript or cultist mobs and things like khorne hound packs.

>>51317255

Macharius never came back, though. He was killed by an Assassin who was disguised as an Inquisitorial Stormtrooper in the retinue of an Inquisitor in order to deny Macharius's soul to Nurgle's diseases. Then the Assassin assassinated the Inquisitor she was working under while hidden as an Inquisitorial Stormtrooper because the Inquisitor was a witness and also possibly attempting to undermine Macharius's successes.

Anyway, Macharius has been dead for centuries and has thus far been very stubborn about staying that way. Still, he would make a great Character for the Guard, although it looks like only characters from the "present" of 40k are getting models, since a lot of them have been cut.

Oh, it's dead already at least on /tg/, but they had to give the Riptide and Wraithknight even more powerful versions. Most of their smaller dudes are alright, as well as a good deal of their other options (and some just straight bad or meh), although Secutarii Peltasts are bizarrely powerful. However, Peltasts are still in the "Experimental" rules phase, so they might be ironed out into something more decent later.
>>
>>51317161
Sentinels are great. I just got done magnetizing a few of mine. I'm going to the store tomorrow to buy more. They are great distraction and pestering units. They carry enough firepower to be a threat and to put wounds on tanks/MCs, but they usually aren't high priority for the enemy. Their damage adds up the more they are ignored, and if they aren't ignored, they soak up damage that would otherwise go to your more important vehicles.
>>
>>51317553
While I agree its mostly a meme, their Tau stuff has been pretty stonk. Tau and Eldar proper are way worse, but GW isnt helping.

The marine side of things is pretty good, not battle company free transports good, but good good.

They did boost chaos up a bit as well.

New Eldar Wraithknights can suck it. But Shadow Spectres are cool, a bit mediocre, but cool. Eldar Crosairs are strong but not scatspam strong.
>>
>>51317595

They seem like Sydonian Dragoons before Skitarii came out; a light, somewhat more nimble platform you strap a heavy weapon to and hope it headhunts back its points while your opponent tries to kill more expensive things.

Tau 6e would have, in and of itself, been a pretty balanced and okay Codex as far as things go. It had some neat choices, definitely made it better than the 5e Codex, and had a lot of neat ways basic units could interact with each other, reinforcing the fluff that the Tau were a society of mutualism and their military was built around coordinating tactics and tactical datanets.

But they also had to put in the Riptide, and that's probably where things went so horribly wrong.

Brushes? I get them all from Hobby Lobby. They got a decent single-brush-each selection that allows you to pick the exact kind of brush you need. So long as you wash them up they last a decently long time, too. Expensive, though. But not as bad as Citadel.

Paints? I use Citadel so long as I'm not looking for a very specific color.
>>
>>51317743

Oh, anon, they do understand, they even put it in the rulesheets, they just didn't care.

It might make sense for them to not have Relentless, but then they have to really sit still to actually be of any use when their stated role is hunting down anything a Knight didn't kill.
>>
>>51317756
Not him, but can you show me a single layer of this consistency? I literally don't understand this "milk consistency" thing every time someone brings it up. I just can't grasp the concept because I'm probably retarded. I thin my paints to where they're almost water and they always go on in splotchy layers because they end up pooling.

I have unbuilt

1 Tactical marine squad x 10 (Circa 4th/5th edition)

5 tactical marines

1 Marine command squad from 4th/5th

1 razorback

1 predator

1 dread

5 assault marines

-------

Built

-Vulkan H'estan (Although I need to pin his spear arm again)
-Assault on Black Reach stuff
-10 marines (flamer, missile) 5 termies 1 dread 1 captain

-Space marine captain with stormbolter and power sword

-1 metal chaplan with bolt pistol

-10 scout snipers

Could I build a Salamanders army out of this?

How should I kit out my tactical marines for special weapons if I have no multimeltas? Leave hands off for now and order some bitz for later?

What would you guys buy next?

Should I build my own drop pods out of pvc?

Do I need Rhinos?

Calth boxset?

Any suggestions would really help.

I really need motivation to get back into building models so I can break out of this funk.

Reduce the range of the flechettes to 18' and they're almost on par with Vanguard, and make the kinetic shot more appealing for a turn at least because of the range. Make them 12" and they're only going to be using Kinetic shot and the blind blast, pumping out flechettes in overwatch or if they manage to get in close.

Fuck with it and make it 16" like Deathwatch shotguns and they're back to Vanguard level, firing off shotgun flechette blasts to keep fuckers at arm's length.

Probably would be easy to convert some Skitarii for them. I think they'd function well in a force with lots of tanks.

You also aren't obligated to run your guardmen as the standard Green and tan camo. You could easily have them with Red body armor if you prefer.
>>
>>51317952
Even among the idiots who think robots=futuristic, the Taurox is just too silly a design for anyone to accept. I mean, a Leman Russ is just a Char 1 Bis held up to a mirror, so it at least has some historical justification for it's silly design i.e. "Someone actually tried this at least once before and it even kinda worked", but the Taurox is laughed off by even the most incompetent engineer.

I mean, why even HAVE treads if they're going to have such small surface contact areas? Your just making the thing a bigger target and the mechanic's life a living hell! And judging by the metal covers those tracks' suspension only has a couple centimeters of give! Again, the tires fix this issue because they draw parallels to real vehicles with sensible designs.

"Why is the wheeled Taurox still so tall?"
"To avoid land mines and climb uneven terrain of course!"

>>
>>51318059
Well, a Techpriest would be a good spot to do so. Other options would be Scions or similar carapace armor units to have a different color, as well as Tanks having the possibility of a different scheme.

Guard armies have plenty of options for places to add varying tones.
>>
>>51317941
They got a few relics for effects when they are being assaulted, or are in assault, but really Tau only have three Melee relics.
Onegar Gauntlet (Tau Empire Codex)
Fusion Blade (Farsight Enclaves Codex)

>>
>>51318096
I'm not sure if I'd count Blade of the Worthy, as you have to buy the Fusion Blade and then exchange it for the Blade of the Worthy. You have to swap out a melee weapon, and the Onager gauntlet doesn't technically count.

It's a shame other Tau HQs can't get any sort of relics. Maybe people would actually take something other than a Crisis commander.

However it would be strong against infantry lists and lists that lack the ability to deal with high toughness high strength but slow units.

While most guardsmen, me included, love the khaki camo, it's not the only way. You can build a penal legion and give everyone orange jumpsuits and bright metal armor, for example.

As for servitors? I recommend converting the militarum tempestus with the helmet heads, electro-priests for that "Augmented cyborg with no humanity" look, or the battle servitors for tread-feet.

Anything that cannot move solely under the power of the human/xeno inside is now a walker. Firing examples like terminators or Centurions are to be decided on a case-by-case basis depending on current power level.

>Example:
Riptide is now a walker. The justification is if I kill the power core the pilot cannot move the limbs on his own. So now you can stun-lock it through penetration roles, destroy weapons, and explode.

Tyranid MCs are still MCs: They rely on the strength of the xenos because they are the xenos, with no electric components whatsoever.

And the Tau players who claim they avoid these problems with superior technology can explain to my why up till now they have not applied this tech to hammerhead gunships.

Not him, and I play Tau.

Tau's pretty above-average. It's hard to tell because Riptides and Stormsurges take up the spotlight, but almost everything they can field can pull their own weight.

The only units that can't stand on their own are non-FW air, drones, some of the older FW stuff that hasn't been updated, and maybe Kroot/Vespid. And the first two have formations that can fill a niche and potentially cheese. Everything else in the book is genuinely solid.

No. Your troops are organized into 3 units. Which means unless I'm missing an important special rule means you can only kill 3 units per turn, max. Plus the fact that even with your chants the odds of totaling a Chimera without forcing the plasma veterans inside to snapshoot are merely decent means your fighting an uphill battle.

Its more a matter of those Tau units that people don't take being rather on par compared to some of the weaker books. Kroot are a match for most cheap sniper troops. Vespid are okay if you compare them to some of other assault jump infantry, mainly lacking support for assaults in a ranged army.

Same can be said for basically everything in the book. Tau don't really have bad units unless you're talking only about a strict top tier WAAC level.

bruh who needs carapace when you have 9 meltas/10plasmas in a 10 man squad rerolling to hit and have preferred enemy: the xenos you're fighting.
You also get 7 flyers and 5 can deep strike turn one with T6 3+ turrets that can deep strike in front to tank hits.
Carapace armour is the least of my worries, especially when I'm dumping everyone else in buildings so they can mow shit down with extreme dakka, I'd say I could out dakka a tau player with this list.
>>
>>51318450
It's more that Tau just has generic tools to make sure their specialized units get the job done.
Cover is irrelevant. Line of sight is irrelevant. Having to snap shot is irrelevant, and they can jink at 3+. Almost all their units can fire across the board. They have cheap, efficient deepstrikes. Even their light armor can bring tank-busting weapons for practically free. And then most of their formations actually give them pretty fucking good upgrades.

Oh definitely! If he brings skitarii, fighting them might actually be a challenge. But I was looking at this, specific 1850 points army that happens to consist of a whopping 3 units filled with giant robots.

I don't fear the arc rifles much. They're still attached to T3 units and at 24" they'll have to get past my guardsmen first. So if I focus down the skittarii with my anti-infantry Russes and the anti-infantry veterans and the line infantry's autocannons while my anti-heavy Russes and meltavets chip away at the Castellans I should have plenty of time to trim down the horde. Not only that, but I have a LOT more men than him, AND I got a 33% chance to grab outflank as my warlord trait which gives me many more maneuvering options than the space cyborgs. It's not a guaranteed win by any means, but it's not nearly as big a catch 22 compared to most Tau I play.

Technically the whole formation is a single unit, that can fire at 5 different targets if they want. Though honestly against an infantry horde it would be really fun to see what'd happen. Don't forget the 12 torrent flamers coming from the robots as well. Plus, if they get stuck into combat, it's probably a stalemate on both sides unless you have a power fist in the squad.

Against the traditional anti-armor crowd it's definitely got its drawbacks. If I was to run it, I'd either take the two cheap arc rifle squads or a Holy Requisitioner, for even more Arc Rifle nonsense. Something like this.

You're analyzing a unit. Why wouldn't you want to mention the benefits it gets from its formations? Those buffs are extremely important and can make or break a model.

Don't you think it's kind of silly to just ignore entire paragraphs of text for no real reason? I mean, Riptides are shit too if you pretend it just has a SMS and ignore its other weapons.

>Also, can you take remora drones a a flyer wing with a wing leader?
Yes to both.

No, I was saying his ENTIRE 1850 points army was just 3 units:
A techpreist Dominus

>>
>>51318545
riptides wouldnt make a very good vehicle either, they are far to posable to have defined front side and rear armour.

well it's a bit complicated, A long story short I've got an undivided group that are more like Rogue Traders than they are Black Crusaders.

So far all they've been doing is jumping around the eastern fringe looking for "artifacts" and they've been stealing whatever the fuck they can get their hands on. So far they have an entire armory of xenos weapons of varying caliber, poisons and toxins taken from one of the fiercest DE cabals, and an Imperial Battleship that had just been christened and wasn't really meant to end up being a Slaaneshi prince's flagship

Party consists of a Nurgle Psyker that has an unhealthy obsession with the undead and zombies.

A Khornate Berzeker that loves using necron energy blades.

The Slaaneshi pirate prince who's an excellent captain and pirate but unfortunatley a horribly vicious/loyal Slaanesh worshiper.

Also there's an Ork Mek that got shoehorned in and generally causes mayhem as the group's "Mechanicus Representative" .

Then finally there's an actually non insane party member who's an ex guard captain that decided to switch to the "freer" side he mostly keeps the rest of them from killing eachother/themselves. basically acts as the party's face and merchant.

Why are Heavy Rail Rifles S10? I know people whined before about that reduction, but it really doesn't help the Hammerhead when you can take three railgun Broadsides sans submunitions in the same slot. Being a band-aid is half the point of formations, though. Instead of directly buffing specific units (which can make them overpowered or stray them from their intended niche), a formation can charge a tax to indirectly buff a unit and make it otherwise playable.

>>51318824
>If remoras can be taken in a flyer wing, can they be taken as an air superiority detachment? removing the need for an allied detachment to run them in a dawn blade contingent.

They can be taken in an Air Superiority Detachment, though, they obviously won't get the objsec from it.

Unless IA14 amends what the existing contingents can take, Remoras will never be a part of a Dawn Blade Contingent.

Partly for fluff, partly for ballance. They are supposed to be the most powerful weapon of the tau arsenal, far far more powerful than a las cannon. As for game play everyone knows they sucked pooper in 6e and 7e hence only ever seeing the missile sides. I also made them assault instead of heavy to go along with the new model which is much larger and far more baddass looking. This mobility should also help make them comparable to TL heavy 4 missile pods.

As for the hammer head I think that is just a case of where it needs to be altered too. You do get the large blast with the HH but not sure if its enough.

Glaze if you want a red tint, tamiya or FW clear paint if you want something along the lines of candy-apple red, like on cars or FW models. I've heard GW's new Tints are actually good at this as well.
>>
>>51319408
I suppose you could layer and highlight your metallics (steel base with silver on the edges and raises areas) and then glaze the whole thing, and apply a gloss wash after to shade the crevices.

The gloss washes flow into the crevices much better than the regular washes and don't stain as much, but they dry glossy and need to be matted down.

For shading red a gloss flesh tone would work, or Duncan's Blessed Nuln OIl for a slightly cleaner look.

How do we fix boyz
>>
>>51319486
By making them MANZ.
>>
>>51319486
Basic boys now have two wounds each
>>

Dark eldar used to have a model with captured sisters on it.

Also there's Dawn of War Soulstorm.

Plastic sisters, forgeworld baneblade variant with exorcist missile launchers and a FUKKINHUEG flamethrower, new resin pentient engine model, Repressors, "Reliquary" pattern Land Speeders for sisters repentia to run around in, modified arvus lighters/valks

Vect back on a modified raider, Homunculus Gargantuan Creatures, HomCoven special characters, new model for the old Dark Eldar fliers, huge new beastmaster pets, Venom upgrade kit that turns it into a gun / missile boat, new toys for the harlequins the DEldar are bringing as allies.

it's not like this isn't a perfect match of the two most under represented factions that are in dire need of love (Maybe throw in some ork fixes at the same time.) Gives an opportunity to expand on the lead up to a raid, relations between DEldar and Harlequins, what the eccliesiarchy is like, how sisters convents work, what relic worlds are like, how PDF and Sisters co-operate etc.

>>
>>51319486
you don't

you can cut the points costs to 2/3 ppm or whatever, but that doesn't really fix the unit.

power creep is too a point where an ork boy can never really be a good unit, at least not without making them into a totally different unit or cutting costs to where the whole table can be spammed.

>Implying Filthy Mutants are human
>Implying Astartes aren't filthy mutants

Is your entire race this stupid cuntface? Or is it just your inferior vision?
>>
>>51319501
Repressor will never be seen in a GW codex due to being a FW model.
>>
>>51319506
I'd take them if they were free

Like if there was a decurion that made boyz free, but you still had to buy upgrades and vehicles
>>
>>51319486
Orkz get FnP 6+ as default
2W each
>>
>>51319520
I hate this Space Marines are mutants meme. Mutation in the Imperium is generally classified as tainted by Chaos or extremely unsafe areas, such as underhive wastes. Space Marines are genetically augmented and given implants, including organs.

Wulfen actually are mutants by the IoM's definition though, ironically enough.
>>
>>51319530

maybe if they brought them down to T3
>>

>>

FNP 5+ and a fun special rule that sometimes gives bonuses (as opposed to "fun" special rules that sometimes cause the unit to become retarded)
>>
>>51319486
+1I
HOR if 10 or more boyz charge the same unit
>>
>>51319546
With the exception of 30k, I don't remember if the Baneblade has ever not been a guard only vehicle. Unless you mean it getting switched to plastic?

What did they joke about? I am a ork player and I want to be more butthurt.
>>
Let's say I want to build a Steel Legion Astra Army, at around 1000 points. How fucked am I? I think I'd have to convert at least a command squad or maybe two, I'm not sure how AM works.
>>
So what are you hoping for in Fires of Cyraxus, anons?

Personally I want Cybernetica to be good and then I can actually run some beep boops without paying for a 315 pt unit minimum. Also Thanatar a cute.

Also possibly the Vulturax and Triaros, although I'd appreciate letting us take stuff like Chimeras. Also more modular Magi and Myrmidons, but I doubt we're getting the last two.

>>
>>51320186
Astra Militarum. Imperial Guard. I'll just keep calling them Imperial Guard. That sounds a lot better.
>>
>>51320198
I knew what you/he meant. It's called Imperial Guard and I won't have it any other way.
>>
I know this is probably a really overdone question but I was wondering what the scale for an ork conversion should be?

Was considering putting some funky ass ww2 guns on nobz and call them flashgitz because the flashgitz models are too crowded imo. This is a subjective opinion and is no means correct or anything to base an argument off of
>>
>>51320271
>are they big orks 4 me y/n
>are they using guns bigger than a regular shoota y/n
if both are yes, they're fine flash gitz conversions
>>
>>51320286
Yeah but like what is that as a number, like 1:26 or something?

1/35. This was an M3 Lee I did up years back (when Deffrollas were actually worth taking, still salty).

If, however, you're just talking about guns/weapons, then you're looking closer to 1/16. A 1/35 vehicle, as you can see, will fit perfectly with 40K parts, but 1/35 weapons will look laughably small. 40K has massively oversized weaponry.

Too bad every writer, even Abnett, pushes the new name hard
So awkward seeing this lengthy gothic term just pop up so late in his canon

Holy shit I was actually hoping you would respond, I remember seeing you posting about this about a month ago but forgot to screencap.

You're a legend anon
>>
>>51320310
It makes sense for them to be 'officially' reffered to as AM but the guardsmen should just refer to eachother as guard and shit desu
>>
>>51316613
on tau stealth suits which part is the markerlight with the target lock?

it doesnt say in the instructions. is it the ball looking thing?
>>
>>51320328
He still uses guard as well
Personally think new name would be more natural if they just said Militarum. I only ever read it in full.
Space Marines' is very commonly reduced to 'astartes', the same should happen for AM

I'm not sure if the Stealth Suit models actually have markerlights on their sprue

You can see what they look like here. They are the devices on the top of the weapons.
>>
>>51320362
Here is a marker drone, sporting the same device

I am going to play this list against Grey Knights in a moment. Also I need to somehow cut this list down to 1,000 points for another game.

taking a knight against GK is just cruel

Suits got bigger and meatier with new models. Toughness 4 doesnt feel right anymore. They were always to weak on the table top anyways vs small arms. If a space marine bike is t5 then a crisis suit most certainly should be as well.

I did buff the kroot you cant read though (s4 2ccw)

Whats wrong with the riptide being an MC? That it has smash?

pathfinders used to have a 4+ save
>>
>>51319682
Yes they did. Pathfinders have never been super viable and they got worse and worse each edition. They just die to easily. And in 6e there are so many better ways to take markerlights (drones, tetras, sniper squadrons, skyrays).

Pathfinders always die on turn 1 unless your opponent is retarded. There special weapon cost was also way to high so I reduced that too.
