So I'm mainly interested in the lore of 40k, but I've lost track of it lately.

Reposting from the grave of the last thread.

Skitarii Anon from earlier. So I planned on running small squads of Rangers with Arc Rifles, but now that I've found out Hoplites, I'm very convinced to add those, probably in an 'as well' sort of fashion. But maybe that's too much Haywire. I'd be shit against a horde army.

Peltasts seem REALLY good, like stupidly good. Wipe out a unit or two before they get annihilated because the other player focuses fire on them, good.

In that vein, are they broken? Obviously Hoplites aren't too shabby defensively, but otherwise they're kinda in the same place as Vanguard. Peltasts seem just...better than every other Skitarii.

Will I end up being 'That Guy' if I use them at all? What about Hoplites, would the consensus be 'they're okay to use'? The Spear/Shields look so damn cool and honestly should have been in the codex from the start.

Also, why do the Peltast guns look so...shitty? There's a distinct lack of detail there.
>>
>>51210773
Same. I just want to get a retardedly huge amount and use them to make terrain or even a ZM board.
>>
Would it be heresy if I painted my deathwatch Crimson Fists captain's power fist red instead of the bare metal silver the deathwatch normally have? I just don't want to piss off any machine spirt or ornery watch master

All these recent releases have gotten me back into the game. I've play three games in the last month (which is quite a bit for me) one with my CSM and two with my IG/IH Imperial troops. Think I'm going to have to chose a main army as I get more models. Does anyone know how Iron Hands play at 1500-1850pts?
>>
>>51210785
I don't play against Skitarii, but I play against them weekly.
Peltasts are scary good. The only, ONLY thing they can't handle is any vehicle bulkier than a Dread, but that's okay, because literally the rest of your army can do that. My meta is pretty casual but the Skitarii player has started using them, and whenever they show up (he just brings a squad of 10 with omnispex) they wreck face.

Obviously your meta may vary but if you are going to take them, take one squad and see how they do.

>Also, why do the Peltast guns look so...shitty? There's a distinct lack of detail there.
Seconding this. Last year's May Open Day when they were first revealed, it was joked about that their guns looked like Super Soakers... Little did we know the obscene power they'd come to have.
>>
>>51210751
Box and Truck are the best one.

Not even joking.
>>
>>51210798
>Would it be heresy

No, the Crimson Fist could be a particularly insolent individual that has no respect for the machine spirit or his superiors, kept only because he is useful to the Kill Team and maybe sent to the Deathwatch not as an Ork expert but just to get rid of him.

Do it, add some character to your minis.

As long as you don't spam them so long as your opponent isn't taking the cheese or attach a Dominus to every unit for a rerollable 2+ save, you should be okay.

>converting my own guns
As long as they won't be mistaken for Rangers or Vanguard, you'll be good. It's not like Skitarii have too many different troop options for people to remember. Though, the Peltasts' guns are the only weak part of their kit imo. The helmets and pauldrons are legit.

I'm looking to add a Fortification to my Space Marine force, but I'm not sure how well that would work out fluff-wise for a chapter to just happen to fin the same bunker wherever they land.

Drop dreadnoughts still get the job done, same as always. I'm not sure what Powerfist/Autocannon is supposed to be doing, but dreadnoughts force your opponent to turn around and deal with them. This is trivial for most of the higher-tier armies - I'd go so far as to say making it trivial is what makes them higher-tier - but for pickup games with your mates they're pretty solid.

Rules question concerning Inquisition: Do I need to purchase Acolytes if I buy a dedicated Transport? I plan on running a Inq. Detatchment, and using them as a cheap way to get transports for my Skitarii list. Also, if I do have to buy acolytes, do they need start embarked in the transport?

Now, Skitarii question: I plan on running a battle maniple, and running my Warlord squad with 3 Plas Cavaliers, and shunting them across with a Rhino. Question is, how do I run my Alpha? I was thinking full load out, with digital weapons, phase taser, Conversion field, and phospher blast pistol. I figure after spewing out my Plasma, it's only a matter of time before I get charged, or I need to charge. Is this a good load out?
>>
>>51211698
You buy dedicated transports as part of a unit, not on their own.
>>
>>51211698

There is a dedicated vehicle transport Valkyrie, but it's a separate model to the standard one with its own rules, and IIRC can only carry Sentinels or Tauros buggies. So he's speaking out his ass.

Tell him that if he doesn't have the rules, he can't play it.
>>

He probably saw the Sky Talon flulf and assumed it could carry them. But no, a Valkyrie cannot carry a dreadnought.
>>

The rule he's talking about appears in Imperial Armor Aeronautica. The rule's called Sky Lift, which reads:

>A Sky Talon can carry one Tauros or Tauros Venator or two Drop Sentinels. If you have sufficient Sky Talons, they may carry a vehicle squadron. The Sky Talons must remain in coherency whilst transporting a vehicle squadron.

It gets this instead of being able to carry troops. The regular Valkyrie is unaffected.

I work(ed) for a programming/graphics design office mained in China. Pretty sure I'm about to get shitcanned and I'm ready to pull the trigger, so I might as well post. Figured you would be more interested than /v/.

A few months ago we got some work to do some assets and scripts for a game under GW's license, maybe from Relic but only my boss's boss would know. We're still working on it now. The name of the project is Kill Team and it's a PC 40k moba. Not sure if it's multiplat.

I don't have too much information since we only did some minor models (scenery and background, mostly, it's what our office does), but it doesn't look too bad. You play as a generic hero, can buy war gear that changes how they look, and there are assets for nine different races in there. Abaddon, Magnus, and Farsight are referenced, but I haven't seen them. But I wasn't involved in that stuff and I haven't been told more than I had to know.

What I do know is that it plays like Heroes of the Storm, in that there are multiple maps with secondary objectives. One map has a wrecked Titan that can shoot onto the battlefield. Another has a Monolith that moves like a tug of war. Each map has a big gimmick and some smaller ones that you can interact with.

There's also a living lore thing that pops up every fucking loading screen (I see it every fucking time) that's supposed to dynamically fluff up the match. If your team has Tau and IG, it detects that and says you're a Tau group fighting with Gue'vesa. There's special text for all sorts of combinations.

I don't have ANY proof at all for any of this, and some of it is speculation based on what I've seen and worked with. All my work is on a workstation in an office, none of which I could bring home with me. Just giving you guys a headsup before this hits this year or next at E3 or wherever.

Curious, but is the Leman Russ superior to it's Xenos and Chaos opposition in terms of armament?

From what I've seen, the basic Russ (despite being called primitive) puts quite a few enemy tanks to shame with it's main gun, if not necessarily it's technology or speed.

Also, is the Russ (or any of it's variants and vehicles built on it's chassis) produced by the Forces of Chaos, Tau aligned Humans or Renegades?

I think it's a pretty legitimate place to draw a line. I'll accept boobplate, corsets built into armour, hell, I'd accept a bare midriff or other partial armour configurations.

But high heels on power armour? Literally an inconvenience that doesn't even serve an inefficient purpose. It stands out as a wildly wrong detail, in part because of how mundane it is.

A chainsaw sword works by rule of cool. It's transparently absurd, but strikes a cool image.

I find the heels cool because I love Blanche's absurd, over-the-top heavy metal aesthetic and anything which brings that into the miniatures scores major points with me.
>>
>>51212186

Well, that's why I was complaining about Greyfax then, isn't it?
>>
>>51212171
Well, it can make sense on Inquisitors. She'd not be much taller than your average SoB without them and showing any authority towards a fucking Space Marine when you could lick their nipples by just standing is kind of hard. With the heels, a female Inquisitor is almost on face-to-face level with a marine.

Then again, that would only make sense on "parade armor" and other non-combat suits, though so would all the decorative bullshit everyone wears so they probably don't have that concept in-universe anyway.

Directly adapting Blanche to minis is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

He does good mood-setting concept art, but it needs a bunch of tweaks to make a good 3D model, as proved by how shit the limited Canoness looked.

Why are battle-heels a problem for you, anyway? Have a problem with women wearing heels?

She can clearly function well enough in them. Don't shame her sense of fashion and choice in armour.

You realize that the entire purpose of fashion is to signal status right?

Have you noticed that the female characters with high-heeled power armor are high status women like inquisitors, all of whom, male and female alike tend to wear ornate, questionably practical armor to display their status.

If it's totally reasonable for a male inquisitor to have exposed biceps, a fur mantle and a cape, it's equally reasonable for a female inquisitor to have heels on her power armor.

Women wear they to make their legs look longer, making them appear taller and thinner. There is an age old association between long legs and sex appeal, and there're several theouries about line, symmetry, shape, and the "psychology of the eye." The eye is naturally drawn to longer legs in the same way as it is drawn to negative space.

And when we stare at womens legs, we are likely to associate them with sex.

It's especially effective when they are bare.

While the science behind it is cool, women do not wear high heels because they are cool, but choose your cancer
because they are sex objects competing for our seed.
because social pressures focus women on revolving their lives around pleasing men

Considering another IG army to go with my space shermans. This one will be a penal legion with uncamo-ed tanks (i.e. lots of silver bare metal), troopers in orange jumpsuits, and orange strips on vehicles to mark them as penal legions.

...Oh, and everyone gets a plasmagun. Because nobody in the spess sherman army would touch the things, they gave them all to prisoners and told "March forward, shoot everything you see!"

My regular army's job is literally to just walk a few miles behind this new regiment and pick the plasmaguns of the burning corpses, and occasionally salvage a burning tank husk or two.

I call it "Ryza's Forsaken" I need only mod it to accept a Macharius Omega.

Hang on let me try to rephrase a bit:

The reason heels are setting me off is because they're -actively worse than nothing even at a casual glance-.

A chainmail bikini is more protection than no armour at all, even if it's bloody silly.

It doesn't take a genius to notice the technology used to make a chainsword actually usable would be better used making a non-chainsword weapon better instead. But it's still better than taking someone on unarmed.

And I'll defend boob plate on sisters to my dying breath, because it perfectly fits the gothic asthetic of the Ecclesiarchy.

>Curious, but is the Leman Russ superior to it's Xenos and Chaos opposition in terms of armament?

That depends. Do you mean in game terms, or in fluff terms? I would say "no" either way, but it depends.

For instance, vs Eldar:
If we're comparing the Leman Russ as "basic battle tank" then that'd be the Falcon, which has inferior armament (on the table and in fluff, imo). But the Falcon is actually a transport, and the pure anti-tank Falcon is a Fire Prism. IMO the Fire Prism's rules are better on the table, and in fluff it's no contest. And if we count the archeotech-equivalent version of the Falcon, the Warp Hunter, then the Leman Russ is absolutely BTFO (however, the Eldar seem to have forgot how to make these or something, and there aren't many left).

As far as where they're made, they're made on forge worlds so any of those groups could conceivably make them if they had the equipment. However, the reason Chaos forces usually don't make new shit is that they barely have any forge worlds and the ones they do have are shitholes. I am not certain if there are confirmed Chaos Leman Russes or not since I can't remember if they were introduced before or after the Heresy. Look it up on Lexicanum if you want.

It's a lot easier if you just take it slow. $20 a month, one purchase at a time. It's only overwhelming when you feel like you need to buy a $60 rulebook, a $60 codex, a $100 starter army, $100 of supplies.

All you need is a $10 kolinsky brush, $10 to $20 of paints, a knife, clippers, a box of models, maybe some files.

Except that their own codex describes them as non-complaint.

>But that one BL book!

Can suck dick, the codex takes precedence and BT are non-adherent to the Codex Astartes and its organization with the AoD supplement confirming that, there are 10 possible Crusades and GW has confirmed 3 so far (Cruxis, Helbrecht's and Punishment) so again, Eternal Crusader and Black Library can suck dick.

if you don't know what faction you like best get the normal rulebook because it's the go to primer to get an overview of the setting. It tells you all the movers and shakers of the setting and will help you pick a faction that you connect with.

Your first faction ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE ONE YOU CONNECT WITH.

It takes a lot of effort to build and paint little guys, if you don't like them before painting them you won't like them after painting them.

If you like how they look and want to paint them then you'll have lots of fun even before you play the game.

if you can't use a knife then the scraper is fine, you hold it at an angle and use the sharp edges to scrape, but it won't cut into things like horns

Right but you didn't say she was a SoB HQ - you said she was an HQ for SoB only which is is false.

You said

>Celestine is a SoB, she's an HQ choice ONLY for sisters of battle

The rules say

>It is important to note that any of these powerful characters can be included as an HQ choice in a Detachment belonging to their Faction as normal, but each of them can also be included as an HQ choice in any Combined Arms or Allied Detachment comprised of an Armies of the Imperium Faction.

So your statement is false. She is not ONLY an HQ for SoB, she retains her faction but is an HQ choice for ANY AoI army.

>>
>>51213145
The "blade" is actually pretty heavy duty, and the slight curve on it is useful

Because the blade is thick, it scrapes off the mold lines really easy without risk of cutting.

Because it is thick, it can't reach into tight places.

Is it worth 17 dolalrs? I think so, but I also play horde armies. If I had smaller model counts I might not like it as much
>>
>>51213136

>>51212227

Which is what it is, but now that you mention it, I can definitely see inquisitors, male and female alike, wearing heels and platform boots and bulking out their armor just to get that Astartes intimidation factor.

That's what I like about the Triumvirate models, really. They're Imperial insanity in models.

>>51212052
Which incidentally is the catch here. It strikes me a bit weird that we're resorting to bondage cliches to indicate authority on our female leaders, but if you put Veridya and Greyfax next to Celestine, it's pretty clear that that's not quite what's happening. Rather it's that the whole "gothic thing" is borrowing these earlier visual indicators as a reminder of just how fucked up 40k is as a setting. We're not meant to want to be Imperial heroes. Just look at Cawl. He's a senior adept. That's what they all look like. The inquisition is drawing from the darkest moments of religious violence and totalitarian systems. Perfectly and uncomfortably, that's how a dom dresses. The result is Greyfax. The sexualization from the heels evokes bdsm culture as opposed to a more mainstream sexualization. It's meant to push it into an ambivalent zone.
Same deal as astartes being asexual. They're the epitome of MANLY HEROES in the western tradition, and just as John McLain can't stay married, Spess Muhreens are a critique on concepts of masculinity through their infertility and disinterest.
If we had clearer cultural indicators of a male sadomasochist that were not straight up bondage gear, we'd see the same thing on male inquisitor models and even then, just look at the sexualized Khornate cultists. Burly men in bondage gear with handcuffs? And, as with the Spess Muhreen, what do these men's men do? Kill and rage and that's about it. #CritiqueOfMasculinity

For non-sexualized weirdness, look at Cawl. It's all that same sort of insanity that makes the setting tick.
>>
>>51213197
on the upside as easily as they were castrated to 1000 battle brothers a new book or codex could come along where they get pissed and or say fuck it and then build up to 6000 battle brothers again or w/e

>>
>>51213216
I should clarify, I think - they're great at starting armies, but at starting the hobby they kinda fall flat. that could just be me expecting more from the name, though.

what I mean is:

SC! skitarii comes with units, but no way to put them together.
SC! skitarii paint comes with no way to actually paint.

neither of them come with tools required to effectively create your little bundle of stuffs.

Building model airplanes, building model planes, woodworking, painting on canvas, drawing.

40k is incredibly labor-intensive for a hobby. You have to pay GW for a box of unassembled plastic, and then assemble it yourself (assuming you're some king of useless animal that doesn't paint their dudes). That's not getting into the fact that comparing it to buying a computer is disingenuous considering a computer can be used for more than playing games, while 40k miniatures cannot.

Blood and Fire has Grimaldus stating they don't have a complete copy of the codex and after 10k years it's likely no one does.

Storm Surge wins 9/10 times, Knight with sword kills it 4/5 times if you don't bubblewrap. If you do bubblewrap it wins 2/3 I imagine. Those are probably even giving it better estimates than it deserves. It's also vastly more expensive than both. All in all, it's a shit show.

If your opponent isn't bubble wrapping his Stormsurge or going full ham with it, you should be chasing it with a Rhino/Chimera to keep it from anchoring. Knights just need to be surrounded, preferrably you have alternate targets with one or more units on two or more sides of a Knight to make its shield useless and use the unit on the shield side to do something else.

the idea is that the infantry platoon covers the tanks while they do work on TEQs and enemy vehicles, the autocannons hole up in nearby cover, perferably a tall building or something to overwatch that defensive line. if I'm fighting another defensive army the whole thing can pack up and slowly advance into the middle of the table.

Hey guys I just figured out something.

If you play War Convocation and include Cawl in your army, you guys who can take relics (Domicus/Datasmiths/Skitarii squadleaders) can take Cawl's personal relics too.

And for free!

War Convocation's Might of Adeptus Mechanicus states that you can have free Arcana Mechanicums and Cawl's relics are Arcana Mechanicum. Also due the wording of relics and how many you can have them, model can have one from it's own codex and one from Cawl.
