That's my problem with most large Italic made cyoas.

I get that in real life, people obviously have their own goals and ambitions and actively try to pursue them in order to actualize their own happiness but I feel like Italics has emphasized way too much on those characterization aspects in order to make incredibly real and life like companions, which ultimately is their own downfall; the more italics talks about their own ambitions, goals and agendas and how much they strive to achieve them, the more they feel less like trustworthy and loyal friends that you want to journey with, that you'll know will stick with out through thick and thin as you have awesome adventures and more like competing parties or friends with benefits.

I think I understand Italics now, he's literally the Tolstoy of cyoas and creating companions, they are very fascinating and interesting to read and discuss about, he writes alot of them and gives each of them too much detail that its suffocating.

I'm having difficulties on deciding on mechanics. It'll likely take me awhile to get it sorted out, as this is going to be a pretty unique CYOA.

I really want to avoid plugging everything with stats, but at the same time, the idea appeals to me. It'll be the difference between having the reader determine whether or not they can screw over the department they're auditing, or if they can compare their stats to their target's stats and somehow come to a conclusion.

The former sounds appealing because it doesn't tie down people to certain choices and it prevents people from saying "Okay, if I take X, I can thus achieve Y with no argument." The latter is appealing because if I do the former, it might be too free form.

How do you determine whether or not you come to a finding or an incident when auditing a unit? Does the user simply determine themselves that "Oh, I found that this unit hasn't been locking their computers correctly. I declare heresy."?

I've been grinding my brain on trying to figure out how to get this to work without it being blatantly obvious or non-obvious, and it's fucking difficult. I'm likely going to be doing nothing but pondering mechanics for the next few weeks.

For personal stats I was thinking of having things like your level of investigation, intimidation and what not, but decided against it because I thought that was too limiting. One of the things I discussed with the thread was the justification of your power. If you're allowed to do public executions or take people as sex slaves, then there'd better be a reason other than "muh regime is ebil". Like a foreign threat that drives society the way it is, such as a war.

Namely, how do you reach a conclusion to your audit, how do you determine your audit grade, and how do you determine the punishments? A part of the difficulty is that there's going to be a wide array of departments to audit from different city districts; I'm planning on at least 20 different units you'd get to choose from and you have to pick 4 to conduct your audit on throughout the year.

And I want this to be scalable. You will be able to pick from small departments such as a company in charge of warehouses to big corporations that have frightening influence, such as an alcohol company or a weapons research facility.

And in the end, your audits will have repercussions throughout the setting. The setting takes place in a city/kingdom that's run like a police-state. You represent some of the most feared persons of society but your beginning choice of the CYOA (who you work under) would generally determine your goal. If you work directly under the Rose Monarch, you generally pursue to sniff out wrongdoings in her name and want to push the importance of your regime. If you work for the military, you're going to be showing strength and have more intimidating factors to your presence. If you work for the nobles, you're pushing for capitalism and the rise of big corporates, which might drive you to audit corporate enemies.

My idea was every player is like Rex- i.e. they are normal human appearance wise and can make biomorphs. Each biomorph will be highly customizable, from flamethrower sacs or superheated blades.

Does anyone have ideas for factions, by any chance? There will be the classic Providence and Van Kleiss, but of course there will be others. And of course a Culling style gladiatorial game.

Problem with this whole thing is that audits have to have grades, so I think stats are somewhat unavoidable. And if I introduce stats, then things are going to snowball out of control. I need to figure out how to not make it stupid levels of intricacy.

Deliberately avoiding this; you're a free agent who can specialize in any field. At most, who you work for will give you some perks (such as better knowledge in a department's hierarchical structure), but nothing beyond that (and your uniform).

That's the thing; how do you "find" something? I'm at an impasse for this.

I'm thinking of having a pool of "findings". The way we do it in audit is we test various units based on a set list of controls we have (scenarios that can go wrong). If you fail at a control, we'll give you a grade there.

So, I'm thinking of letting you pick your own checklist of controls and then you can determine the grades for each control, but still, how do you come up with those grades? What determines that you give them an "Ineffective" or "Satisfactory"?

I'm not sure how applicable this to your specific scenario but it kind of reminds me of Slavemaster. Basically you pick your auditing powers and then instead of slaves you pick the things that you find wrong which are limited based on your powers. You probably also want some cap on the number of things you can find wrong, which you can maybe increase with one of the powers.

It would be sort of gamey and lead to some people working backwards from the audit they want to make and picking powers based on that but I'm not sure that's avoidable in any system.

Yeah, that's exactly why I wanted to avoid going for stats.

If I were going to go with stats, it would go like this:

You'd have a certain "level" of expertise in a field (such as law). You'd pick your team specialists to also raise your "level" in these fields.

Then you'd go and audit different departments, who would have an "integrity" rating for certain fields. A department could have a high law integrity but low technology integrity. If your "level" exceeds their "integrity", then you have the full authority to give them a grade underneath Satisfactory; one step lower would be Ineffective which, depending on how many Ineffective scores they get, can range from giving them a slap on the wrist to a firing them. Meanwhile, if your "level" exceeds their "integrity" by a large, defined margin, you can give them an "Unsatisfactory" grade in that field. This would allow you to indict for more severe punishments, such as arrests, executions or degradation of their status to subhuman levels.

This system sounds really appealing to me, but I don't know if it's a bad thing when people go in reverse order to pick the outcome they want.

That's really hard to do unless you are given the exact details of the going-on's of your targets. Which I doubt it being something you can accomplish.

By gamifying it, I'd say you can only come up with a grade by

I do a thing where I switch between a more futuristic setting and a fantasy one between CYOAs.

The Generator Rex CYOA I've already talked about some, and AITO V.2.0 too.

The MOBA remake will definitely use a spellmaking system like the one in Woadheim, but much, much more extensive, and you can pick between archetypes such as Invoker (10 spells, but each spell is slightly weaker) and Udyr (stance switching) and others like Abathur and Meepo.

Punishments would have certain requirements to fulfill before you can give that punishment. For example, if your audit comes with three "Ineffective" grades, you can fire their department leader. If you have one "Unsatisfactory" grade, you can instead arrest their department leader. Three "U" grades means you can either execute their lead on the spot or renounce their position in society.

And giving grades is also entirely up to you, so long as you have the authority to give the grade. A player can roleplay to instead "hand out" a Satisfactory grade if the department lead would... satisfy their needs. This is why I'd take a bit to expand on the personalities of the department leads; if they're less confident and would do anything to keep their department in good graces, then it's easy to imagine what you can do with them.

Let's say you have different scores for the players (for example: tax evasion=7, corruption=5, organized crime=9) wich determine your ability to find and track the activities on that field, meanwhile the party being audited gets the same scores(for example:TE = 7, Corruption =5, crime =7). Now you get punishments points in each category equal to your or the npc score(whichever is lower) for example, you wold get 5 point from corruption(since you couldn't uncover the other 2 points of corruption) but only 7 point from crime (since there were only 7 points to be found)

Varying grade tiers sounds like an interesting idea. You can of course fudge with your grades in exchange for bonuses. Depending on the severity of the grade, in order to bump them to satisfactory, you can cash in better bonuses, depending on your target. Same as with dealing out punishments, you can always fudge a grade, but you should probably limit this ability.

With the Power/Productivity/Corruption mechanics, you could have the grade be something like

So either side could straight-up bully the other, you could pull strings to hurt their name, but the actual investigation could crush them.

Somewhere, in an old, abandoned store, there sits a dusty, cracked dollhouse. Its paint chips, its windows are broken, but there is still a magic to it if you tap the door thrice.

In a puff of dust and cobwebs you will arrive at a dilapidated manor. Its gardens have long gone untended, and its courtyards sit fallow. The statues crumble, the fountains have long run dry, and deluded figurines mime tea parties, broken kettles and shattered cups in their hands.

Hateful spirits slip in and out of every shadow, unable to avenge their own demise, but inflicting their torment upon any foolish enough to enter. Among their cries of agony are forced adorations toward the one who sits in the very center of the ruined estate.

There, in a courtyard of dead grass and fallen pillars, she sits upon a chair that by all means should have fallen to dust long ago. Tears of ceramic dust stream unceasingly from her closed eyes, and cobwebs grow upon her form. Dust has caked her once-radiant dress, and the curls in her hair have come undone. Even as she is attended by a party of sycophants whose unfading smiles clash with the sparse rags that remain of their finery, there is no joy for her.

If I had modern stuff than probably sword in one hand and pistol in the other like in Sucker Punch. And just be ninja-like whirlwind of death to evil doers.

But if I could do like anything I' go more like pic related and be like a angel of retribution and fly super fast like a jet with and shoot lasers or something from my eyes which would totally be like hawk eyes and be able to track targets, and just incinerate tanks and stuff. Disparaging/demeaning is available as a fetish, yes. It's much more geared towards waifu building than waifu selection. Like that Yandere generator that had fuck ton of choices. The only major difference is that I'm gearing mine towards gentle femdom and plan on adding images to every possible choice.

There are 30 possible personality traits to choose from, 24 possible fetishes (most geared toward domination obviously but a few other ones that have to do with shit I like), and 21 different hobbies and interests. It's 1,400 x 10,000 pixels and there are a total of 14 different sections.

I hope to have it finished for tomorrow at night, but it's possible that it'll have to wait for monday afternoon.

I stand silently outside the enemy stronghold cloaked in a crimson red cloak. I position myself that the sun will rise from behind me and that the golden threads in my cloak will catch the light as the sun rises slowly. I spread my arms apart and begin chanting otherworldly hymns that vaguely sound like a mix of every human language in existence. Naturally my voice is projected over everything in front of me for several square miles such that even from within their barracks the enemy combatants will hear my chanting and be forced awake just in time for the heat of the desert to settle on the land.

At this point they may begin shooting at me, which is fine because the bullets painlessly pass by and raise the dust behind me. No matter how many bullets they send my way they faze through my body or otherwise the wounds dematerialize instants after they're caused.

With every hour that passes my chanting begins to resemble human language more closely and they begin to hear it coming from within their heads. The weak minded will begin to bleed from their ears and others experience strange visual hallucinations in the form of dead family members staring at them from outside windows and the corners of hallways. No matter what they do these apparitions begin to rot and scream as soon as they get close before melting into shadows.

When the sun sets on that day my chanting turns into something that is more percussive than vocal. The words escape their minds but its beats carve their way through their bodies. A perceptive few realize that their heartbeats are shifting to match my inhuman chant and the weakest have either deserted or committed suicide.

It's at this point that an illusory army of the dead bearing khopesh and riding chariots materializes at the edge of the horizon and drives its way maddeningly to the walls of the compound. For the entirety of the night the men are tortured by the sounds of the dead killing themselves over and over again, the sound of the trampling of men below skeletal horses and arrows twinging past their faces but never hitting. The smell of death permeates every inch of the stronghold and only when the first rays of light hug the land do the warriors meld into the land, leaving only a trail of rotted carcasses and maggoty entrails that do not properly match any creature that has ever lived on earth.

For the second day I walk five hundred meters closer to the encampment. At this point the men will notice that I have no face and that beneath my cloak three more sets of arms seem to shake in maddening patterns crafting signs that do not exist on earth. The majority of men will have begun to see colors that exist outside the color spectrum and reality will begin to grow tenebrous and vague. Impossible occurrences also begin to take place such as stairs that shift back onto themselves and doors that open into scenes of paradise only to instantly switch into a pitch black abyss the moment they come any closer. In addition to this most inanimate solid matter loses its realness and there are happenings of men melting into the walls or having their hands fused to their guns.

My voice should have properly infiltrated the minds of at least a few dozen who will proceed to unclothe themselves before exiting the compound and begin to dance circles around me in a frenzied dance while they cry in tonal languages that they’ve never spoken before.At the passing of three hours from the moment they’ve begun to dance the circle of men have had their arms fused into a single chain and from their bodies burrowing insects begin to chew holes through their rib cages and out into the open air. These insects start off roughly the size of a bumble bee but as soon as they set off they begin to grow and mutate into horrendous cadaverous forms. They direct themselves toward the compound and use their tarsal claws to inflict light wounds on the survivors before transforming into cancerous masses of carapace and human faces that resemble the soldiers’ loved ones before choking on bile and dying. The ring of dancing fused soldiers is reduced to an encircling wall of wailing and laughing flesh, no distinct characteristics remain of their previous identities.

That night I make it so that a legion of shadow demons inhabit the fortress. The shadow demons resemble children about four feet tall and possess two glowing red eyes. They can only live in the shadows but inch their way as close as possible to the edge of the darkness and reach out with clawed hands for the combatants and drag them into the darkness. For the entirety of the night the soldiers must stay within the reach of a light source or else be dragged away by the demon children who will drag them away into the unknown.

By the third day I stand in the gate and look inward. Any soldier who sees me will notice I have no legs and that in place of a torso my exposed ribcage drips a constant stream of black liquid into the darkness of my cloak. I’ll wait until noon before slowly making my way to the center of the compound. Any soldier who tries to stop me suddenly finds their fingernails bloating into painful cancerous masses before exploding violently causing everything above the wrist to splinter and crack. I’ll reach the center of the compound and remove my cloak to reveal that I am composed entirely of a plague of locusts and rats the size of dogs. These creatures will spread in every direction and devour all organic matter except for the soldiers themselves. Rather the survivors will be chased into the desert. Those who look back or fall to the ground begin to vomit more locusts and rats chew their way out of their bellies until they’re reduced to nothing but vermin.

Those who do not turn or look will eventually find that they aren’t being chased at all. They will develop fatal insomnia and die within two years, but not before telling what happened to other people. My presence continues to linger in their mind and for the rest of their short lives they’ll see my figure standing at the foot of their bed whenever they try to sleep. Whenever I finish doing this I cause the abandoned complex to become inhabited by terrible wraiths and poltergeists who will appear at night and torment those who try to take up residence until they kill themselves or leave. Do this five to ten times and eventually isis will come to an end.

That other anon's info is outdated. Mashu already died in the finale of part 1 of F/GO but Fou sacrificed its accumulated power as part of a ritual to revive her, and she now has a normal lifespan as her condition was cured accordingly.
This is, incidentally, the reason it can no longer become PM - the sacrifice robbed it of any intellect it possessed, and it really is just a cute, fluffy little puffball now without any notable power or potential.
