Isn't the Inferno's only job to set fluff right, FW-style?
Aka, riddled with errata & relying on presencial witnesses?
>>
>>51153284

Well, this book deals with the Space Wolves and the whole 'Emperor's Executioner's' Schick, plus Magnus and whatever wrong he did or did not do.

There's a lot of room for arguments. FW might back up Magnus, or put more weight behind the Wolves as Executioners, either of which will generate Skubstorms aplenty.

>>
>>51153211
The scanbegging will be annoying, and it will never end now that Scanon has lost access to his equipment.

None of the lore will really be new, so we'll be arguing over nuances that were deliberately left open to interpretation and our own preconceived notions. But at least we'll be able to stop debating the size of these two legions and we'll have rules for them. A lot of fans on both sides are perfectly fine and I'll be happy to see them build up fully painted armies. Don't make things worse by treating them like their legions' worst fans (and I'm talking more about the SW than the TS, simply because they have such a large fanbase).

I do worry about psychic powers and balance under the current rules. And I worry that FW's pace is so slow when there are still three legions (not including SW and TS) waiting for the full treatment.

What were the latest rumors about Prosperine Guard? Magnus may have done something wrong, but the people of Prospero certainly didn't.
>>
>>51153571

Spireguard are something I desperately want, but from what I've heard, we're not getting anything for them except perhaps some recoloured Solar Auxilia. Which is a fucking shame if that does happen. I have an entire Spireguard Armoured Company I want to build.
>>
>>51153182
Aren't Salamanders storm shields limited to terminators?
>>
>>51153392

Tartaros might make sense for those Termies, but the list looks alright. I'd consider dropping the Spartan and Sicaran to put everyone in Dreadclaws or Kharybdises since they're going to draw so much fire as the only two vehicles on the ground.
>>
So I want to start Mechanicum (Reductor) and my friend has loaded up with a fuck-ton of Death Guard thanks to a windfall, lucky sod. He has Calth, Mortarion, 5 Deathshroud, 5 Grave Wardens, the Primus Medicae and a Land Raider Achilles.

How the fuck do I take that down with a smallish army? I'm planning on min Thallax, 40 Adsecularis orso and a little artillery, plus maybe a Lightning. I have a few models I can use as Magi. Death Guard seem to have pretty much every weakness I have in liberal amounts. I also will have a Knight magnetised up soon, if that would help.

Fair enough. So yeah 3 T 5 wounds with a 2++/3++, eternal warrior, and either FnP 4+ or IWND and eternal warrior. Fucker could probably kill Alpharius or Lorgar in single combat.

On the topic of legion warlord traits this is my idea for Emperor's Children

1. Peerless Champion
The warlord has preferred enemy characters

2. Lightning Strikes
All emperor's children infantry units add an extra D3 inches to their run moves and charge distances

3. Prideful Warriors
Units gain stubborn during assault phases

4. Degenerate Savages
All models armed with sonic shriekers gain feel no pain

5. Bile's Creations
One Emperor's Children unit gains rage and furious charge

6. Flawless Precision
Write down a number and keep it hidden. On the turn number written on that paper the entire army counts their ranged weapons as twin-linked

Might be excessive but nothing to the same level as the super salamander.

>Units gain stubborn during assault phases
>4. Degenerate Savages
>All models armed with sonic shriekers gain feel no pain
>5. Bile's Creations
>One Emperor's Children unit gains rage and furious charge
Y'know these are supposed to be traits of the Warlord, not his army?

Planning on dropping some S10 ordnance on that Land Raider, try to shake it down and slow it for the Thallax to pick away at it with those Lance weapons. Try to tarpit Mortarion with Thralls? That might work if I stretch the squads out. Terminators I can probably handle, powerful as they are.

The secret in the TS / SW arguments is that the majority of TS players don't give a fuck and some even like the SW as the yin to their yang.
Probably about the same amount of SW players feel the same way, but the fact there are more SW players and a lot of them are obnoxious tends to drown out the reasonable groups on both fanbases.

Which makes sense. People drawn to the TS would have to be fine with always being the losers and getting shat on (but with that glimmer of hope) and people drawn to the SW would have to be into the whole braggart muh thing.

Eh...
Then we have Angron wearing 3+ armour and Mortarion's 2+ Barbaran Plate being worse than an Ultramarine Praetor's Mantle of FnP

Fenris survived and the Sons got routed but a lot of the tribes got killed or infected by chaos mutation.
The loss for the Wolves, aside from a minor fluff character, was that they lost a large chunk of their recruitment pool.
The loss for the Sons was that they, well, lost. But they used the 'energy' unleashed by a world in the Fenris system being exterminatus'd to shift the Planet of Sorcerers into realspace or some shit.

Fuck knows dawg. They shifted it into the Prospero system, which the last it appeared in fluff in any major way (admittedly in like M32 or something) was interdicted as fuck by the Inquisition. They did bring a stable warp rift with them around the planet, so I think the idea is that they can now come and go into realspace without any hassle?

I second the bronze with green visors.

I'd avoid using warm colors for both the metal AND the cloth so don't use brown. I'd use a relatively bright bronze or brass for the metal over a cool, slightly desaturated (i.e. add gray) dark color for the cloth. Color theory says green and bronze are close together, with purple on the opposite side of the color wheel - so purple's your third color.

Whether the cloth is desaturated purple or desaturated green is up to you. I think they have two levels of cloth under the plate armor.

The lens color (bright green, but you could use bright purple too) will be a spot color and you should try to use it in three spots arranged in a triangle. Eyes and hands, or eyes, weapon, and some other location. Other details, like the gorget aquila, should be in the desaturated version of the color you didn't use for the lenses.

>>51154304
No, but they didn't really coordinate between each other until GW hired Laurie Goulding to try to keep things consistent between all the different writers. As an example, FW made the legions bigger so later print runs of the older BL HH novels increased those numbers. Under Goulding, they mapped out what will happen to a lot of the named characters to avoid future canon conflicts, which means we should have fewer dead people coming back alive because some author wanted to use them again. Goulding's leaving to work in Hollywood (probably Star Wars, which certainly needs the help) but I think they've already planned out a lot of the details for the remaining years of the Heresy.

3 "Slightly embarrassed every time my name is mentioned."

I've had experience with being a namefag a very long time ago, and that experience was very negative once I found out how people see you as a namefag. So I've tried to make amends by shunning the spotlight at all costs. It helps that I'm forgotten in the vast spaces between book releases.

On a different note I've been looking at investing in a portable scanner. Quality is not great, but it will allow for better images then simple pictures and can ensure I can at least give semi-quality images of the rules from Inferno when it comes out.

5 years of doing this and it won't leave me alone.

I've been to /k/ some times. Magical place. You cannot browse without finding a tripfag.
Or four.
Per thread.
And I don't know them, as an outsider I have no right to judge, but even /k/ doesn't seem to like them most of the time, the trips becoming an identifier almost entirely used to know who to direct the aggression against.
And then it's a tennis game where they go back and forth.
Some dude even has "despicable" on his name.
We didn't have that here.
I saw what Uni was doing and said "hey I want to contribute too", mainly because I had lurked for months and wanted to post silly paint images, and also because /tg/ lacks that identifier tag like /biz/ & /pol/.
But many asked questions that I knew the answers for, from the HH books, so I dedicated mostly to post excerpts and to dispel the "not fluffy" and "faction only" memes in a way I thought FW was implying through the books.

And before these, I didn't even know how to read statlines or what 40k was.
I simply saw Scananon's gift and was drawn in.

Melancholic personalities tend to self deprecate and reject praise, but the praise to the Scananon is a well deserved one.

>Let us speak of Little Horus, Little Horus Aximand. His aspect was the half moon, and his disposition, according to the humours, was inclining towards melancholia. This explained, many thought, his prevailing mood of sorrow and inner trouble, though he frequently denied it. ‘The melancholic humour is misunderstood,’ he said. ‘You think too literally. It has, in fact, the quality of autumn. It is the spirit of contemplative change, the accelerator of death, the enabler of ends and beginnings. Autumn clears away the world so that a new one may rise. This is my purpose. I am not sad.’

Each of the Mournival is one of the Humours. Aximands is Melancholic. Hence why I asked.

Nah son, they explode, can lose weapons, and be stunned by normal AT weapons.

A leviathan in a pod is a risky investment, high risk, high reward. Anything with interceptor and enough to cause it to snap fire and it is all over.

A Knight is a much more reliable investment.

Ooooh IRL.
I was going to propose some Triarii...

Briefcase filled with foam with holes carved in for each individual mini? So they don't clash with each other when you move it.
Maybe add some sort of plastic marbles to each hole, but that's prevent you from opening the briefcase in the vertical position. Which you shouldn't anyway.

Not related to truescale, but I'm still a bit disappointed that the BoP Custodes didn't get glorious capes for the entire squad (and yet SoS did), when it's always been a key part of their aesthetic. It makes the models look really top-heavy and unwieldy.

The truth lies somewhere in between.

I think they're an interesting experiment to show what Marines made properly proportional to regular humans look like, but they're not the same as "proper" marines and you can't really make an army of them.
And GW are never ever going to re-scale their entire marine range, both because it'd be a hassle for them, and because it would trigger the fuck out of the OCD of every pre-switch player and give their small marines a gameplay advantage.

The problem with truescale marines is that people make them XBOXHUEG in a heroic scale game, as well as marines being 7', and not 8-9' like how truescaling makes them. Going by an approximation, that SA would only reach the marine's shoulder at most, which is wrong.

>>
>>51160281
The main issue is that almost all the human models GW makes are rediculeously large, not that the marines are small.
And most if not all 'trooscale' fanatics also make their marines way too large, to the point where human models have their head at ideal dick-sucking height rather than somewhere below the neck of the marine. And for some children marines can never be large enough.

But some people really need their compensation for something else, so just ignore them.

tell them its just a variant of the legion elite symbol and to promptly fuck off.
>>
>>51160488

This thread's been kind of a disaster, but we still have 25 days until Inferno.

I still think we should make a 30k Podcast for 30k General. Because of the Flames of War people can do it, so the fuck can we.

I don't think you quite comprehend the deadliness of asperger wrath. Have you ever been beaten senseless by Chinese resin?

Huge until every variant has rules

Have you tried Master Crafted Miniatures, they're about the only manufacturer I've seen that makes blank terminator shoulder pads. also make studded ones and some Cataphractii pads.

>>51160488
Tell me about it, I'm working on a squad of 10.

>>51160517
If they freak out like that then youve already won
>>
>>51160395
True, but I wouldn't be surprised if they go out of their way to make converting them to Marine jetbikes difficult somehow. They don't seem to be too big on that sort of cross-compatibility, like how they upscaled the Javelin Attack Speeder and threw extra sponsons on so that people wouldn't be able to use it as a regular LS with WYSIWYG.

>This thread's been kind of a disaster
Naaaah. We did got sidetracked but we returned to the right lane.
Also, I got many (You)s.
That's a success.
For me.

>The main issue is that almost all the human models GW makes are rediculeously large, not that the marines are small.
Yes.
I picked up a couple of boxes of WW2 Afrika Korps from Perry Miniatures, for no specific purpose (I like the history/WOT, I might play Bolt Action some day, and they're cheap as fuck for a proxy Militia army), and those human models are much smaller and of a more "spindly", less "heroic" proportion. They look a good foot (in real scale) at least shorter than the average Space Marine, and much less muscled.

It's not *so* bad that the Cadians and Catachans be ~7 foot tall on average with arms as thick as a top-tier bodybuilder's, seeing how they come from "death worlds" where the Imperium deliberately "farms" for soldiers that can be gene-enhanced further and are definitely pumped full of future-steroids, but it's a bit irritating when literally every human model outsizes the emperor's finest, and even then, the Cadians and Catachans aren't fluffed as being as tall as Space Marines.

And you're the one bringing Freudian implications into all of this over and over again, not the truescalers.

>>51160472
If you're an Imperial Fist you've got every damn right to wear the Crux desu.
>>
>>51160562

FW Elysians and Kriegers are about the same scale as Perry, Warlord and similar Historicals. It's why I use them extensively.

Only problem is that his lower half is moulded onto the bike, so it still looks off unless you're doing Dark Angels.

What's the company Black Templars came from? I'm sure you can make good use of all the BT shoulder pads with the Knights Hospitaler cross on them.

KEK this has been a nice night bread, but I should sleep now.
Hopefully some australian, eastern european or some east coast anon that cannot sleep because of a cold can bake the morning thread.

Good night and rest comfy, /HHG/!

Not really. There was one dude with a Luna Wolves army that had a whole fleet of jetbikes made from Sammael, and it's not like they all still looked like DA from the waist down.
It might take some effort cutting away unwanted parts, but anything is better than dildobikes :^)

1st Company, though both the Maltese cross and their color scheme where symbols for veterancy in other companies.
>>
>>51160710

I thought the Solar Auxilia were Cadian sized, chunky bastards.
>>
>>51160730
Nope. FW makes nicely scaled humans. GW's SM are actually in the correct (heroic) scale for the game, the problem is their guardsmen are giants.
>>
>>51160717
So it seems. I assumes they used the iron cross like all the other legions.

I'm not really clear on the fluff of where the 30k Black Templars fit into the structure of the Imperial Fists.
What I assumed was that they were a "warrior order" outside the normal ranks which a legionnaire could serve in for a bit if they had the skill, that had a ceremonial role within the legion. A bit like a cross between the Phoenix Guard and a "warrior lodge" no heresy, but also somewhat like the Deathwatch in that it wasn't strictly a "dumping ground" for katana-wielding edgelords who weren't going to advance in the formal structure, just a place where they'd serve for a bit, get that out of their system, and put their "eliteness" and skills to use in the yellow-armour wearing part of the legion (why the lowliest IF characters are better in challenges). In fact, the description of the Invictus Sue-zerains is what I pictured them as - a selection pool for future leaders, made to compete with their best peers and also follow around the current generation of leaders, learning from observing them as their honour guard.

Inb4 someone gets mad cos "lol wtf that's headcanon bro". It just makes a lot more sense to me than the idea that they are just an elite "chapter" in a de facto sense under Sigismund, since the rules suggest they be used in small, semi-ceremonial detachments alongside "mainline" Imperial Fist chapters, 1000 warriors spread in groups as small as five across one of the largest legions, probably more than a hundred yellow guys for every Black Templar. So they're either going to be spread very thinly across the regular legion like a ceremonial regiment or "chapter", or they're going to be their own independent chapter in a practical sense, with all the non-prestigious roles that entails, and have their coolness and eliteness as an order of sword-wielding knights be diluted!

Wrong-ish
Terran Veteran Gunther isn't First Company
>>51160596
It wasn't a single company.
The Templar Brethren (guardians of the Temple of Oaths) were amongs the most zealous sons of Dorn.
The most corageous IFs from among the legion were selected, not necessarily from a specific company.
>>
>>51160864
Makes sense, though that was the exact same idea for Aeonid Thiel's Red-marked and the actual template for the Codex organisation. Could be the reason the Fists adapted so well once Dorn accepted the restructuring.
>>
>>51160864
Plus I might be wrong on this but after the Iron Cage didn't the largest number of Fists go with Sigismund into his Black Templar "above 1000 marines because we're always crusading" technicality-abusing chapter? I doubt if the Templars only consisted of active 1st company members he'd have enough left to make a company after Terra and the Cage, and it makes sense to me that the yellow-armoured survivors of the pre-heresy legion would be familiar with the Templar ways of Sigismund's "chapter"/"order"/whatever-you-want-to-call-it because they would have served in it at some point before becoming sergeants or captains of the "regular" yellow-armoured sub-units of the legion.
>>
>>51160864
I'd respond what I said here >>51160892
They're an order of champions within the legion, not unlike the Palatine Blades.

REEE why am I not getting (You)s?
>>
>>51160864
Thats what I've always thought about the Fists 1st Company, first you gotta be a kick ass veteran and a master swordsman to join the first company so not all veterans were good enough to be "Elite of the Elite" but as soon as you became a Templar the 1st company would probably send some of its members into other chapters/companies. Its either that or a bunch of veterans that werent part of the first company could use the 1st company colors which doesnt sit well with me as it dilutes the idea that the Templar Brethren are supposed to be the best of the best within the legion.

>>51160892
I didnt say Gunther was a Templar, thats not in his description, I just used the pic as an example of other veterans using the 1st company colors/symbols.

>you can't really make an army of them
Ofcourse one can, this is a modelling hobby after all. One can make with his time and effort what he damn pleases. People sometimes get really uppity over things.
>>51160397
With this I agree. If you want to make your Big Guys ™ bigger, a marine ought to be a head and maybe half a shoulder taller armour-clad compared to a regular human, no more, to reserve atleast some amount of consistency.
>>
>>51160934
Yeah, that's the view I had of what the Templars were, not some "hurr you can't have this guy be a Templar/ex-Templar" rigid command structure thing that the no-fun damp squib types would like to make it. If you're a badass, like swords, and serve or at some point served with a bunch of other badasses who like swords, you can be a Templar, in my view.

>>51160969
>Ofcourse one can, this is a modelling hobby after all. One can make with his time and effort what he damn pleases. People sometimes get really uppity over things.
I'm not trying to be all "you can't do your dudes this way". Quite the opposite, in fact. I was saying that the Crux Terminatus could be justified as being present on Imperial Fists Terminators because of whatever ceremonial rank the wearers had gotten while, at some previous point in their careers, having served within the Black Templars, or gotten some honour or whatever. In fact, as an explanation for why Imperial Fists Indomitus Terminators could keep their Crux Terminatuses, it could even be fluffed that the terminator armour recovered by Sigismund from Mars would have been decorated to commemorate the "accomplishment" of the Templars in doing that.

Some people complained about this thread

I thought it was a really nice calm way for the core group to get their heads together and reboot the autism, well done

Well done lads, I'm proud of you, love a DG anon
>>
>>51160929
No one knows how many marines were given. Sigismund got the most zealous and hate-fueled Fists, my headcannon will always be that the Templar brethren were decimated in the Iron Cage and thats all Dorn gave Sigismund. Then small remains of other companies that were reduced to single squads joined Sigismund unofficially as they sought vengeance for the Iron Cage.

But officially theres no numbers, Polux got neophytes that werent yet Imperial Fists and didnt suffered through the Heresy as well as more pragmatic Fists and Sigismund got the more zealous and emotional Fists.
>>
>>51161025

One of the things that caught my eye was anti-SJW shitposting all over a previous edition. I know, it's a cancer of many a society, but shitting all over a /hhg/ thread is not going to make a dent.

I really think the trips should come together and make a podcast. It's what the FoW ones do, and it makes them useful.

Agreed.

if it's about a 30k project, post it here
