bolters for ap3 MEQ hunting

otherwise give them literally anything else. The frag cannon and heavy bolter are assault weapons. If kitting a squad for melee, don't be afraid of mixing weapons.

2x5 Wyrdvane Psykers

2 Infantry platoon with 3 squads plus command, all with one heavy weapons squad (4 Autocannon, 4 Lascannon), 1 Vox per blob, 1 vox for command, Priest and Primaris Psyker for each blob of 30 guardsmen.

2 Devil Dogs

1x 2 Exterminators

2 LR Battle Tanks

>>
>>51124985
Keep in mind loads of people play guard, only the truly mad ro devoted take orks to tourneys.
>>
>>51124985

IG are low tier. People don't realize this because they haven't actually sat down and counted how many factions we have, how many new factions we have, how many of those new factions are better than IG (KDK, GSC, Knights), and how many old armies that were worse than IG became better than them since 5E (Eldar, Tau, vanilla marines, DA, Necrons, GK, Daemons, etc).

Even if IG didn't move at all, simply by sheer virtue of new additions and buffed old armies, IG got pushed to the bottom of the rung, hanging only above complete losers like Orks and Tyranids.
>>
>>51125102
Tyranids can be powerful and they are nowhere near orks. Spamming flyrants can get you very far.

IG also has some powerful stuff. Mostly from FW. Vultures and Malcador Infernuses spring to mind. Both are sickenly good at what they do.
>>
>>51125121

So what would you say is weaker than Tyranids but stronger than Orks?

Malcadors are trash you're better off with the knight equivalent.
>>
>>51125128
Yes.

And Malcadors are trash except Infernus. Poisoned 2+ ap2 hellstorm 18" torrent template is enough to scary almost any army shitless. It has raw firepower and is major disrupting factor since you cant just ignore its massive 16" flamer template when you deploy your guys.

And it costs less than knight gallant.

>>

>>

>>
>>51125174
>every single large rulespack bans Hellstorm weapons

It's ok, I'll bring an Ullanor instead. I'm sure a 7" blast moving 72" across the board and hitting anything it touches automatically, including flyers and FMC, and having AP2, ID, Pinning, Armourebane, and Ignores Cover, isn't that bad. At least its strength depends on the model hit. Anything below MCs are hit at S5, MCs and vehicles at S8, Tanks at S10 and the rest get the D.

Explain what? chapters all use a motley mix of equipment from different eras of the imperium's history. The ones in standardized gear (like the new deathwatch with their mk8 suits) are the strange ones.

The only sort of problem is the clashing styles and sizes of the various models. The mk1 rhino is considerably smaller than the mk2, and the newer models are going to be noticeably more detailed.

all the malcador hulls , valdor included are better in 30k and with the exception of the malcador should have the ruleset directly imported into 40k imo without the usual 30k special rules (no flare shield , aux drive , expl adapt, armored ceramite, multilasers etc)

You have disgraced yourself before the Emperor.

They do get a pretty sweet truck though. Plus, as a bonus you get to use some IG vehicles as well.

Like all horde armies though, if you're new to the hobby they might not be the best solely because of the amount of stuff you'll have to buy and then paint to get up and running. If you're ok with that, than have fun and post pictures when your models are finished.

Battle Demi-Company (not Gladius and its free transport bullshit, just the Demi-Company on its own) is pretty fluffy. Skyhammer is a great example, it just needs its retarded rules toned down.

The Farsight decurion is actually fun and fluffy, it just includes fucking stupid formations like Riptide Wing and HRC. Remove those and make Retaliation Cadre 0-1 and you have a cool way to play suit Tau.

So newb question about Ahriman and his Black Staff.

>The Black Staff of Ahriman has the profile below. It allows Ahriman to attempt to manifest the same witchfire power up to three times per Psychic phase.

Does this mean that Ahriman can cast 12 witchfires in the psychic phase? As in 3 psychic shrieks, then 3 doom bolts, then 3 smites and then three firestorms.

Or does it simply mean as a ML4 3 of his spells can be the same spell? So 3 doombolts then 1 shriek and he's done.

This "Grand Crusade" formation that was supposefly announced to be in FoC is a different one from the pre-built armies you can buy, right?

>>
>>51125754
From GW FAQ
>Q: Is the maximum number of powers a Psyker can use in their turn equal to their Mastery Level, or the number of powers they have (due to Psychic Focus they often have one more power than their Mastery Level)?
>A: Unless explicitly permitted to do so, Psykers may not attempt to manifest more psychic powers than the number of their Mastery Level within a single Psychic phase.

Mind you though I can see the argument for both sides. Noone(?) else can do what Ahriman can so does the Black Staff mean to break this rule?

>Psykers may not attempt to manifest more psychic powers than the number of their Mastery Level

This would normally mean 4 different powers on a ML4. Ahriman is only casting 4 powers just 3 times each as his staff allows

>It allows Ahriman to attempt to manifest the same witchfire power up to three times per Psychic phase.

So after thinking about it I'm leaning towards 12 witchfires actually.
>>
>>51124985

Orks do better in ITC for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they have access to Buzzgob's Stompa, which many groups will either ban or frown upon due to it being no longer officially supported by Forgeworld. Secondly, ITC missions are set up to favour small, fast moving units that can claim objectives. Orks are surprisingly good at this, having access to cheap units like Deffkoptas and Buggies. Guard on the other hand do poorly at this.

>>51125718

As an Ork player, all I can say is

Bring.
It.
On.

40K is as bloated and broken as 8th edition Fantasy was. The game has reached an active state of anti-fun at this point. Tear it down and rebuild it from the ground up.

Is a Pinion Battle Demi-Company a good idea for a somewhat fluffy and still useful Black Templars army? The scouts coming in with their own Assault Squad could reasonably represent Neophytes and their Initiates coming onto the field and getting the Outflank advantage on a potentionally 10-man Assault squad seems pretty decent for Black Templar tactics.

GW said they'd do it, but the rulebook in the OP hasn't been changed. Not sure if GW hasn't done it yet or the changes just haven't been added to the Mega folder.

Specifically wondering if they've added KDK to all malefic summoning? Strictly RAW from the FAQ only bloodthirsters can be summoned from KDK. It makes sense based on the FAQ that KDK Bloodletters or Flesh Hounds could be summoned but it would be nice to be able to be backed up by GW text.

newfag here.

Question about relics. Is it one per FOC/Formation, or one per army ?
>>
>>51126179
>His staff says he can manifest a witchfire 3 times.
That's the bonus, you get to spam any witchfire up to 3 times, so youcan go 3+1 2+2 2+1+1, any combination that adds up to 4 rather than the regular 1+1+1+1

>>51126189

You're still eating 12 different cookies.

Ahriman may cast 4 powers. The Staff just lets him cast a given Witchfire up to 3 times. Casting Psychic Shriek 3 times is still casting 3 powers.

Does as many powers refer to 'number of powers' or 'amount of powers'?

I can see why there'd be confusion, but the argument for the other side doesn't really hold up. If we go back to the FAQ, it says that you can only exceed your mastery level in number of attempts to manifest if it's EXPLICITLY stated in the entry. Even if you could argue that the staff allows it, and I still don't find that argument compelling, it'd falter because it's only implicitly allowing you to exceed your mastery level.

good point, i can't explain why a company like GW does not have the money to provide their customers with the convenience to track their orders.

the place i work at got a new deal that included the license after they've reached 300 orders a day average, making the lives of my colleagues and me easier.

i suspect that GW saves money in the wrong places or they're trying to monetize something as simple as a parcel number.

The Arquebi are a decent way to easily snipe something over the entire table, like some Plasma Cannon blasting me from way out of reach.

How do I into an assault-focused SM army? I very, very rarely play against SM (like twice per year) so I have almost no idea how their stuff works, but now I want to start a Charcharodons army.

So far I have this as an idea:
975/1000 (IDK what to do with remaining 25 points)

HQ
>Tyberos the Red Wake (190)
Troops
>The Red Brethren (175) - NOTE: This a Terminator Assault Squad, can't take anything but Lightning Claws, but count as troops, as per Forgeworld
>Scouts (70) - Camo cloaks and sniper rifles
Fast Attack
>Assault Marines (120) - Jump packs, Sergeant with 2x Lightning Claws, and melta bombs
>Assault Marines (120) - Jump packs, Sergeant with 2x Lightning Claws, and melta bombs
>2 Land Speeders (140) - Each with (2x Multi-Melta)
Heavy Support
>Devestators (165) - 4x Multi-Melta, Sergeant with Combi-Melta, Drop Pod with Locator Beacon
The reason for the Devastators is mostly that I wanted to build some heavy weapon guys out of FW Mk III armour and then say they're an example of the spess sherks using old-as-fuck equipment.

Anyway is this good enough for a casual friendly list?

>>
>>51126633
>The Arquebi are a decent way to easily snipe something over the entire table, like some Plasma Cannon blasting me from way out of reach
No its not. Want some math?
You'll get precision shots every 6 shot.
Lets say your skitarii have bs5 always and that plasma cannon is in 4+ cover which is dropped to 5+ due Omnispex.

You'll need average 22 shots to get enough Precision shots, wounds and failed cover saves to kill that plasmacannon.

Transuranic Arquebuses are not good weapons. They are mediocre in everything they do, from killing dudes to hurting vehicles.

The Genestealer Cult fervently believes that the Children of the Void are coming to usher in a promised, beautiful age free from poverty and tyranny. And ironically, that's true. It's just that they escape from those into a digestion pool.

Sorcerer with ML3, MOT, AoDG, and TDA costs 165.
Factor in +25pts for ML4 and he'd be 190.
The remaining 40pts is to factor in Arhiman's bonus stats / artifacts (Black Staff vs Force Staff)

So, regarding IG tank commanders.

Under what circumstances would you give the TC a tank that used blast templates? It feels like a misuse of his abilities.

>Either ordnance weapons or Executioner cannon
>either can't use mighty BS4 on sponsons or starts glancing himself to death by turn 2
>BS4 is diminished on blast weapons anyway

I ask because I'm planning on picking up a Forge World Russ for my dedicated TC model and I'm wondering what guns I should magnetize him to use, besides the Vanquisher, Exterminator and Punisher.

Eradicator a shit.
>>
>>51127524

>>
>>51127739
I know. I'm a Daemon player. It's great.
>>
>>51127714
executioner isn't ordnance, give it plasma sponsons point it at teq or meq(with no other targets) and laugh, fire the main 3 shots first.
>>
>>51127714
I agree, it's a misuse. Vanquisher I don't think is worth it on a Tank Commander that much either. I think it's better to take them in the Emperor's Fist formation as units to benefit from the BS4 bubble. Overall the Vanquisher is overpriced, especially if you take Multi-melta sponsons and Lascannon hull. If it was Heavy 2, it would be worth it. Or maybe if it was 110 points.

I think it's Punisher Pask, or Exterminator for regular Tank Commander. Anything else is a waste to me. Pask in the Executioner is mildly interesting though. The large blast can be neat, but not that great still.

What's so bad about Nids?
>>
>>51127308
>>51127379
Let me rephrase that. How would you write genestealer cults sympathetically? And in good taste?

I ask this because some poorly written black library novel portrayed genestealers as literal rapists who impregnated some chick with a hive tyrant.

I want to get very far away from stuffing women in refrigerators. The tyranids already intend to eat the biosphere. They don't need misogyny.

Something like that one short story in one of the anthologies where the main character was a hideous hybrid is a good start.
>>
>>51127891
Better question is what is good about Nids.

Flying circus and that's basically it.
>>

i really dont know what that is actually. i mean i know assaults dead but youd thank that one of the top armies most effective weapons being that it has to hit on 6's would make nids a bit better.

Lack of mobility, lack of 2+ saves, lack of Invulnerable saves, lack of ability to get units into close combat, Synapse being more of a curse than a blessing, slow moving easy to kill big targets, no EW for Synapse creatures, weak shooting.

Just had a peek into FoC. Fro. Guard player perspective:

1. There is massive cad-like for combined armies of imperium. Literally sigmar. On 5+ troops after death go back into ongoing. (!!!) Also hatred and zealot if you max any slot (troop/fast etc). 4 troops and 1 hq needed. Not sure if you can now use drop pods for guard etc.

2. Bellisarius can give aura of 3 dice fnp, +1-3bs or 4-6++ save in 12' for all allied vehicles. Good for ig. 200pts only.

You know this already ?

They only have 3 weapons Bolter, Flamer and Meltas.

Every 5 model squad can spam at least 3 of those special weapons. In case of Dominion 4 meltaguns and combi melta that can ignore cover once per battle.

Their transport are basically 60 points TL-MM/HF.

So against most armies in the game beside MC or GC SoB have a relative easy time. By the sheer amount of S8 AP1 shit they can bring to the table.

Since GW just copy pasted SoB rules over and over again. They got decent by sheer negligence of the army. When GW touch an army they don't like they end like Nids or Ork. Copy pasted rules have saved SoB from that shit.

>Tournaments
There's your problem. 7th edition, with its allies and formations and special detachments, has stratified casual and tourney play to the point where the viability of armies is completely different between them.

Armies that are viable in casual play aren't viable in tourney play because they get stomped. Armies that are viable in tourney play aren't viable in casual play because they're so effective they're not fun to play against, and no one will play against you. Ask any Eldar player how many games he's had against someone who isn't also Eldar or some similar power army recently.

Guard are on the upper end of the casual bracket, I'd say. An army that's just functional enough to be taken seriously in tourneys (though not straight-up strong enough to win them).

This earns them the unenviable position of being the butt of most tournament batreps.

I for one don't play tourneys at all. I play to have fun, not to win.

Unit-wise, vets Meltaspam in Chimeras, pretty much anythig involving Knight Commander Pask, and big gun lines with Psykers and orders. Vendettas, especially in flyer wings.

Formation-wise, most configurations of the Emperor's Wrath formation, multiple Hllrain Brigades (yes I know it's scions but they're a Guard unit shut up), and abusing the Core restrictions on the Cadian Battlegroup for infinite Tank Commanders/CCS's.

I think "impregnated with hive tyrant by genestealers" is referring to Deathwatch by Steve Parker. It took a lot of liberties with the source material.

To be fair, every tyranid organism explicitly identified as female has been higher in the hierarchy than those explicitly defined as male. It's a celebration of fertility, motherhood, and feminism.

The horror of genestealers is that they take advantage of human social instincts: even complete scoundrels suddenly adopt family values after infection. This is technically rape by brainwashing if you consider the infected brainwashed humans and not tyranid vanguard organisms with human memories.

Violent rape is the Dark Eldar shtick. And how!

Wat this was serious?

So, say I wanted to play a Successor Chapter of Raven Guard, with a secret: After a really grursome war, the original members of the Chapter were ambushed and slaughtered by Night Lord renegades, and had all their gear and geneseed stolen. However, instead of Running off, the Night Lords decided to basically dress themselves up as the Chapter, wait a few years, and re-emerge as the Chapter they stole. Now, they play nice with Imperials and their fellow "allies", if only because if they get caught, they'll murdered in return. This would be a secret only the "Inner circle" would know, a Inner circle that, as time progresses, grows smaller and smaller, as newly indoctrinated, and unaware, marines fill the leadership posistions, leaving only a particularly bloody, yet loyal chapter, with a horrifying past.

Would this be too mary sue? I kinda want to do a Dark Angels sort of thing, but instead of mystery's and honor, I like the idea of that although their scam worked, the NL's are now functionally stuck within this new chapter they've created.

Who gets zealot if you max any role? That role or the entire army?

Guard are very similar to Dark Eldar in that they match-up very, very poorly against the top tier builds. No good answers to Eldar/Tau big shit, vulnerable to the high-RoF-mid-strength shooting Eldar/Tau ooze, most of their really killy units are easy to kill with Grav/Pod Melta, etc.

One of the Guards other big issues is that their best builds rely on going partial-to-full-horde mode, which is hobby intensive and can be a slog to actually play. Especially in tournament settings where you simply don't have enough time to move a hundred dudes around with any degree of skill. They can do some really sick things with synergistic units, but those combos can be disrupted and require some modicum of skill.

And Dark Eldar wouldn't rape anyone unless that would cause them more misery, pain and suffering than...you know, cutting their genitals off.

Dark Eldar are into pain and suffering because they need to be to stay alive, but they aren't any more into sex than their craftworld cousins, that is why they just grow more of themselves in tubes, removes the need for that whole thing that gets the attention of Slaanesh.

Honestly, the Genestealers have been dealt a shit hand when it comes to books. "Casts a Hungry Shadow" has them mind control a SoB intiate, who is than corrupted by Chaos, and than turned into a demon.

Its a good idea but needs working. Do you know how fucked up Night Lords in general are? They are not really up for that kind of sneakery. Sounds a lot more like alpha legions stuff.

alpha legion wouldn't forget who they were

and it doesn't serve alpha legion to wear the skin of an entire chapter

I don't think chapters can just disappear, then reappear without raising questions. A good example is the Tiger Claws. They disappeared, were presumed dead, then a few emerged from a warpstorm. They tried to petition for additional geneseed and equipment to rebuild, but the Inquisition didn't trust them and tried to have them quietly eliminated. Their parent chapter the Astral Claws, sheltered them and when this was discovered it was considered a monstrous heresy.

I'm not sayin it can't happen, but things like geneseed tithes, and requisitioning of equipment runs the risk of drawing attention. I think they'd have to work kind of like the Carcharadons, in that they remain on the outskirts of Imperial society, fleet based, and are largely self sufficient.

I'm having trouble getting a good picture of genestealer reproduction. Different sources say different things. White Dwarf 114-115 lays outs a very specific explanation, where only first born children are hybrids and hybrids reproduce by infection except for 4th gen which have sex. The 2e tyranid codex says all offspring are hybrids and they have sex with each other. Other sources similarly invent new explanations. I'm just going to assume that they're all true to some degree: that earlier hybrids reproduce both sexually and parasitically, later hybrids are purely sexual, and some children are apparently born human.

Are the human kids fully human or are they carriers for genestealer geneseed like infected converts? Will some of their kids be hybrids, letting them start a cult without a genestealer in the event of isolation?

It's not a pre-order and everything is available. Is it because of that stupid Cawl card?
