BTW, him and Azmorgian here set a pretty good precedent for cards to come - the ability to use other upgrade cards to switch upgrades on the fly. Imagine one with the ability to do Torps or Missiles?

Another interesting fact, Vizago is not huge only and zero points (which means he's a good pick for the Quad) but he also has the Cargo icon. Possibly hinting of more Cargo upgrades to come in Standard Format?

>>
>>51112963
>>51112841

I can't quite make the detail out myself, but some people are saying they think the PS1 has a unique dot, also.
>>
>>51112963
Didnt even think about the PS1. The light PS2 is already costed the same as an Academy Pilot. It seems they are breaking their "no ships cheaper then TIEs" rule.
>>
>>51113007
An uniquely shitty pilot, then.
>>
>>51113022
Since the PS1 is unique, it's possible it has some sort of pilot ability to make up for it and thus remain 12+
>>
>>51113022
Unless the PS1 has an insanely amazing ability and is expensive as hell because of it, something like any ship that ends its movement at range 1 of it gets a focus.
>>
>>51113037

A PS1 with a pilot ability, who could cost less than a TIE... That'll be, well, something.

Mostly just the Scum lists because they lack good small ships. (Now with the exception of the Protectorate Starfighters)

Rebel large ships are all right but I don't see them as that big of a threat currently. K-Wings is where it's at.

Also from what I hear people stray away from swarmy lists for tournaments because its more mentally draining tracking all those ships over a long event and still flying properly. Its easier to keep track of, and plan for fewer ships.

Just how do light scyks and TIEs compare?
On the durability side, I think one shield but all damage faceup versus three standard hull is roughly equal. The dials are difficult to compare, the light scyk definitely have more green but lacks the usefull 3-turns and 5-forwards, and I'm not sure 1-banks makes up for it. Once again, I'm calling equal, but with a slight leaning in favor for TIEs.
Which leaves action bar, and here scyks straights up wins for having target lock, but it's not a huge win.
Aand I almost forgot, cheapest scyk have PS2 vs academy pilots PS1, so that's another scyk win.
>>
>>51113167
>Mostly just the Scum lists because they lack good small ships.

By good do you mean like "top tier viable"? Or do you mean like if I run a group of smaller s&v ships I'll have weaknesses that can be easily abused?
>>
>>51113652
Are you telling me they put Jar-Jar in that ship?
>>
>>51113675
Not him, but it's the first one, although slightly worse than "not top-tier". Scum Y-wings and Headhunters works perfectly fine.
>>
>>51113675
A little bit of both really. You can still play friendly games with them but they are point inefficient or try to fit some utility niche that is already fulfilled by some of the bigger and stronger ships. Except the Protectorate Starfighters, those are just Badass af.
>>
>>51113675

I believe most S&V small ships are just slightly points inefficient - as in you don't always get your full value for your ship. The Protectorate, and scum versions of other ships are pretty solid, though some guy won a regional with like, 3 G1-As with Mindlink and FCS.
>>
>>51113751
>>51113675

Oh yeah, I completly forgot about the Y-wings. Y-wings are amazing, they just can be a bit boring to play with.
>>
>>51113652
Would probably work too. Or simply his ineptitdue makes him unpredictable, and PS 12 for maneuver purposes only.
>>
>>51113396
>Zayne Carrick: Scum Edition
I can dig it.
>>
>>51113662
TIEs also win because of the support they get from Howlrunner. Scyks have Serissu and maybe whatever unrevealed pilots they will get.
>>
>>51113797
Yes, both Headhunters and Y's are good support and filler material, but to make a interesting list they need something fun to support, and for that there's either the Protectorate or (any) big ship.
>>
>>51113662
The damage face up is a huge hit for them, which I think will ultimately balance it out. A Crit, followed by a hit, against a Light Scyk, could easily amount to shield gone (crit) and faceup Direct Hit card.
>>
>>51113662
Also, no mod slot on the Light Scyk.
>>
>>51113877
As if TIE swarms ever used mod slots.
>>
>>51113856
Yeah, but the same thing would kill a TIE.

>>51113845
Good point including support pilots, and since red dice are better than green I agree that Holrunner wins out.
>>
>>51113845
TIEs also have Youngster, and some damn fine/cheap pocket-ace pilots.
>>
>>51113895
True. But a TIE with one damage, and a Scyk Light without a shield, that take a single hit, is going to be a huge difference in itself.
>>
>>51113893
Some do. Dark Curse with a Stealth Device is pretty decent. And Night Beast with Tie Mk 2 isn't shabby.
>>
>>51113995
Okay, for aces I can see it, but for base pilots it really does not matter.

>>
>>51114232
Swarms of junk, no it won't... But it does make a difference for the named Scyks. Serissu isn't going to want a Light Scyk, and neither will Laetin.
>>
>>51114389

We are getting a couple of new Syck pilots though. They may have self-stressing abilities where the banks might aid them, for instance.
>>
Hondo crew?
>>
>>51114354

I like the idea of like, a cheap R1 cannon which attacks all possible targets. It's not super useful on the meta scale because Swarms aren't as popular, but given how predictable some ships are imagine being able to potshot at say, multiple /x7s at the same time.
>>
>>51114535

>>
Jakku Gunrunner (15)
Cikatro Vizago (0)
Seismic Charges (2)
Cloaking Device (2) (Swap for Scavenging Crane after cloaking)
Spacetug Tractor Array (2)

You can cloak first turn, stay cloaked forever and continually re-equip yourself with bombs.
>>
>>51113945
it's not huge.
It's a thing, but it's not a huge thing. It's going to cause a max of one extra face up card.
Now that extra face up card could be bad, but it's against a 12pt ship, so no big woop. And that max, not standard. If it was a crit, no difference, if there would have been one extra damage that turn, no difference.

The green 3 bank also is a tiny difference. FFG spent a whole lot of text for very minimal effect, as all of that text matters far less then -2 pt cost.
>>
>>51113909
I'm super curious to see if the new pilots include some decent pocket-ace pilots or even just mid PS uniques that can take advantage of the now better Heavy Scyke.
>>
>>51115035
Dont you have to roll to stay cloaked?
>>
>>51111809
Always. I pick out what I want, tell my players that's how it works, and stick to it. It becomes its own "canon."
>>
>>51115515
Yes....if you have a cloaking device equipped. But if you trash it you stay permanently cloaked.

>>51115035

More of an FnD side arc, but my players recently stormed an imperial facility to free a bunch of press-ganged workers from a repair and and salvage facility.

They had to first acquire speeder trucks and some explosives from an ally, then sneak in. They triggered the alarm after freeing the workers, and then blew a facility wall to haul out the workers. Showdown was with an AT-DP that they took out with the remaining explosives and the two lightsaber equipped PCs.

For Armada, does anyone know where to get extra stands for ships? Mel's miniatures on Shapeways has alot of awesome EU ships available to print, but I can't find any stands for sale anywhere. CorSec Engineering and Litko have stands for Xwing but not Armada.

Jesus, I really can't imagine what that's like.

At any rate, a cursory search shows that Mel's have a bunch of stands and pegs available (though there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to their pricing regimen). Short of that, you might try going down to your local hobbystore and asking if they have any spare stands/pegs they'd be willing to give/sell you.. I've heard mention that by the time of ANH, all the original clones had either been forcibly retired, or serve purely as instructors due to physical degradation due to the accelerated aging process, and mental degradation due to that "inhibitor chip" that had the order 66 code in it. does anyone know where I can get more information on that?

Hey /swg/, have any of you guys run a game around the time of the Knights of the Old Republic vidya games? Any stories you'd like to share for inspiration?

My group is wanting to play Jedi, and I don't know if I should start the campaign before the first game or after the second. Both have merits, the first option having a lot of memorable names and events that I can spin differently for the campaign and have my group involved in. But I'm also afraid of potential meta-gaming, and me falling into the rut of "retelling the game's plot but WITH PLAYER CHARACTERS!" The other option is a lot more open, with the Republic, Jedi and the Sith recovering after the conflicts of the games.

Anyone remember the ludicrous plan from a few threads back?

>>51039187

>We found a defunct droid factory from the Clone Wars. It can make basic battledroids - a lot of them - and there's some material already on location. It can't make blasters though.

>After debating the merits of a melee-based droid army with swords for arms, our Hutt PC pointed out that we'd recently escaped from an Imperial storage/refurbishment facility. A lightly guarded, understaffed Imperial dockyard for mothballed ships.

>So the plan is to raise a droid army, haul them onto the Star Destroyers, and escape.

>Team "Retard Magnet" will have chrome-plated droids made of substandard materials. Their job is to steal the nicest, most modern looking Star Destroyer there, as well as cause any other havoc they can.

>Five minutes after Team Retard Magnet starts, team "Dengo the Hutt and Some Guests" will hit Star Destroyer 2, hoping to /actually/ steal it. Team "Emergency Backup Spare Droids" will go after #3.

>Team "Retard Magnet" also includes specially trained droids programmed to sound like Imperial officers and broadcast orders over the comm-links, as well as droids who've been convinced that they are excellent TIE fighter pilots.

>>51051956

>Oooh! Oooh!

>I forgot to mention that we programmed the Tie Fighter Pilot droids to
>a) believe that they are Soontir Fel. Yes, all 275 of them.
>b) constantly roll
>c) shoot down any Tie Fighters that are not constantly broadcasting "I am Soontir Fel, Elite Pilot of the Empire!" and rolling

>It should be a real shitshow.

Well, prepare yourselves for an equally ludicrous update.

Ah, I see you've discovered the problem with our cunning plan.

Or at least, a problem.

>>51120001
So things go reasonably well. We'd finally got the C-9979s refitted and ready to fly, and our first batch of 6,000 battle droids - give or take - was ready and loaded. We didn't have specialized loading clamps or anything. We just packed 'em in as tight as we could and hoped for the best.

Unfortunately, the C-9979s didn't have hyperdrives. Luckily we had half a spare corvette lying around, and with a bit of welding and few docking clamps, it would do just fine as an improvised hyperspace tug.

There were a few other problems. We'd run out of proper materials about halfway through the final batch, so some of Team Retard Magnet were chrome plated (as planned), bare metals, missing arms, or extremely bendy about the legs.

We did discover enough white and black starship paint to make 100 "Stormtrooper" battle droids, for all the good they did. Anyway, "Dengo the Hutt's Unstoppable Invasion Fleet" was ready to go.

Team Retard Magnet smacked into Tashibal Station and the "Insufferable", their Star Destroyer target, five minutes before the other ships hit. Madness promptly ensued.
>>
How do you balance starship encounters? Is throwing a pair of TIEs at a YT-2400 a reasonable encounter at low levels?
>>
>>51120386

How many PCs do you have who can shoot? Assuming minions - even with house rules that should be one dead TIE every combat check. So think about that.

See, we'd programmed the droids to use Imperial comms and shout Imperial orders. We'd given them a few examples and let them iterate, just to cause additional havoc. The goal was to have the minimal garrison running in 10 directions at once, or completely ignoring orders.

Problem is, the battledroids started to change channels. Eventually they were using all the channels. We couldn't talk to each other. We couldn't tell what the Imperials were doing, or how well /we/ were doing. It was a bit of a problem.

And then the Elite Tie Fighter Droids found the hangar bay and all hell properly broke loose. At first it went well - they stole all the Tie Fighters they could find, and then all the Tie Shuttles, and then the commander's personal shuttle, the grav tugs, and the fuel tanker.

Unfortunately we'd only programmed them to fly Tie Fighters... so the other ships more or less tore themselves apart. The shuttle made it remarkably far while rolling.

While our incompetent droids kept the actual Tie Fighter pilots busy for a few minutes, they also started shooting down each other for being "impostors!" or "Rebel Scum!" or "not rolling enough!"

But it didn't matter. Teams 2 and 3 had hit, and met minimal resistance. Everything was going well until we discovered our true target, the "Unstoppable", was out of fuel.

This presented a bit of a problem. We could blast the docking clamps free - in fact, our over-eager droids just started blasting anything they could see - but we were effectively running on battery power. We couldn't maneuver or escape. Dengo started hyperventilating.

Luckily, our ever-ready astromech R0-K0 had a plan. We didn't need engine power to jump to hyperspace.

And so, flushed with success, we hit the big red button and more or less tore the dockyard apart in our wake. But hey, we were free! Free and rich!

But R0-K0 was notoriously unlucky. He chose a planet and a system so far off the beaten path that /nobody/ would think to follow us here.

Unfortunately, the Rebel Alliance had the same idea, and they'd been hiding out for ages.

So that's where we ended. A slightly damaged, nearly completely depowered Star Destroyer filled with idiotic battle droids, some of whom were still raving about "rebel scum!", drifting straight for the ultra-secret, extremely well armed Rebel Fleet.

I ran a campaign where the PCs were all students of the Jedi that the Exile left behind to rebuild. So each person picked a mentor out of the pool of Atton (who two people had a roll off for being their mentor), Bao-Dur, Mical, Visas, Brianna, and Mira. Their first job as a team was to go to Glee Ansem and investigate rumors of a Sith cell. They managed to sneak into the base, and get the locations of a bunch of places someone mentioned in the logs as D.K. had located force sensitive children. From there, they had a bunch of places to pick from to track down a force sensitive kid. At each successive location, I made sure the local darksiders tracking down the kids were further along, until at the last one they weren't able to keep the kid out of their hands. That's when they met Darth Konsul, a Theelin woman who was trying to rebuild the Sith as kind of a jewish mother. After they ran away dragging a couple unconcious PCs, and contacted the council back on coruscant about her, the game kinda fell apart since some people moved out of state. I wasn't sure how to continue anyway.

I want to use squads involving U-Wings & X-Wings, how hard am I going to get pupstomped at my FLGS' weekly XW night tomorrow:

Make Wedge Great Again
>Wedge Antilles - Expertise, R2-D2, Vectored thrusters
>Notorious B.I.G.G.S - R7 Astromech, IA
>Heff Tobber - Fire Control, Jyn Erso, Jan Ors, Anti-Pursuit Lasers, Pivot-Wing

I'm thinking of changing Heff to Cassian with Adaptability and ditching the APL.

I had a game the other day that was a lot of fun, my squad was 3x Rookie X's with R7s+IA, and a Blue U-Wing with Tactician & Operations Specialist, and I won against a double Resistance Sympathizer squad (both with Hotshot & Gunner) and the re-match later. The X's took locks to either use for defense or attack, and when one of them missed the next one got a focus.

Even your best-case scenario was going to be selling the ship, probably to the Rebellion (but possibly also to a Hutt).

Still, even selling it at a huge discount because it is (1) used, (2) stolen, (3) pretty fucking obvious, and (4) out of fuel, it is an amazing heist. A new VSD with just the standard features has a sticker price of 50 million credits.

Well it depends. Im not a fan of the old republic stuff because it can only get older and stupider at this point. I do enjoy and include the darth bane era stuff for darkside games with my players, but mostly i use time periods +/- 7 years of endor. Still have the OT and some post like bakurra and thrawn when needed, but not the vong. though.. i do enjoy reading Aaron Alstons Rebel Dream and Rebel Dawn duo for essentially another Rouge/Wraith squadron story and usually drop the Force Unleashed stuff just because i feel it kind of forces itself into cannon instead of playing along.

For example right now im writing a rough plot for a pre-Ep5 rebel game about working with a rebel taskforceled by Urias Xhalin[sic] (that i remember from the old rpg stuff) to help end the Twilek slave trade and shutdown the outer rim metal trade to Rothana drive yards to prevent continued building of star dreadnaughts for the Imperial Navy, of which one is being built above Rothana. They also helped "liberate" some cargo airspeeders to the Echo Taskforce led by general Riekan for help setting up the new Secret Base.

Lots of nods and fedora tipping to the cannon, without meeting the Big names. they enjoy feeling Important.

>Mercenary band fighting in the Outer Rim against First Order encroachment

>Made up of -
>a Mando' Clan (reminiscent of the Crusaders from TotJ and some Neo-Crusaders aesthetics (They have a tiny amount of working basilisks re engineered from old legends), leader fancies himself the new Mandalore and wants New Order gear to reunite the clans.
>A Barabel tribe made up survivors from genocided colonists, acting like Catachans and Tanith scouts for the band. The reason they're stuck always fighting for refugees.
>Mixed bag of NR deserters and thrill seekers, old Rebellion fighters, and any press-ganged Outer Rim fighters who can hold a blaster
>Racial tensions between elements are played up and dangerous
>led by a former survivor of Luke's NJO (There's more than 30 of them) that escaped the Ben Solo Columbine, locked away his/her lightsaber for a vibro-ax and a heavy blaster.
>Mainly losing battles and pyrrhic victories, small star fleet with old EU ships recanozied (Assault Frigates galore)
>Final Short story is a last stand before a FO Star Destroyer orbital fuck yous them to oblivion. Mando'a sacrifice their fleet to launch a boarding party against the Star Destroyer. Ex-Jedi fights Knight of Ren and wins, more Jedi show up to get the band back together at the end. It's Katarn and Clighal

Tibanna is used for weapons systems
Malastarian fuel is another which seems to be used in some kinds of reactors, lot of smaller ships just run on fuel-cells and on big capital ships they run on hypermatter annihilator reactors

That's pretty fucking rad.

So blasters aren't really lasers, like I thought as a kid right? They're just strange bolts of plasma comprised of very hot, condensed tibanna gas.

Personally, I like to run games after the second Kotor game with the players being just people trying to get by in a galaxy trying to pick up the pieces.

>>51123240
Fast and good handling: a HWK. Downfall is that it has no weapons to start.

If you're willing to slightly stretch the starting budget for ships, a YT-2400 is a great choice.
>>
>>51123207
Lot of the SW weapons use some chemicals in their function-
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Blaster/Legends
Blaster have a laser in them to heat up the gas and then it just pukes it over whatever the heck its pointed at.

Turbolasers function on a similar way, but with a number of mechanical changes in the way they throw the bolt so to speak. A few types of them even use a canister charge full of gas which is loaded into them like an artillery piece

I like the look of the YT-2400. I'm going to give them a beat up clunker version of one, mostly flavor, but the ship at this point is patches upon patches, and often has a couple of mechanical quirks and bugs the Mechanic will need to smooth over. Thoughts?
>>
>>51123478
Reminds me of the YT-2400 that was in Rebels.
>>
>>51123478
>quirks and bugs the Mechanic will need to smooth over.
maybe the turrets have a faulty targeting system that causes them to occasionally mistake passing ships and stations as hostiles; so when they want to dock with a station or ship they have to cut power to the weapons to keep them from firing on the docking clamp.

or Maybe the original reactor for the ship was lost and the previous owner replaced it with one from a Z-95, so it tends to overheat, a lot; also can't jump into hyperspace unless everything else is shut off (a portable generator left in the hallway powers the life support so it can be left running)

in some of the corridors there is a weird stain on the walls and floor, not sure what it is but nothing seems to clean it off.

Do it.

Tips:

When all else fails, pick a TN and have them roll a skill. Shit, I do most of our space combat this way/narratively.

Give your players a story. The various WEG published adventures are good places to start, but think bigger.

Don't prep too much and expect the unexpected. Don't have one guy need to stay alive or get dead for a plot to work, 'cause the "wild die" mechanic is a plot derailment device. But it's fun. I enhance it some - for each additional 6 on the wild die after the first, I give the PC a free pip in the rolled skill to simulate natural ability growth. Modify for your preferences.

Force stuff can be intimidating unless you're a rules lawyer. I've simplified it further by making it two rolls: one to center oneself, the other to use the Force itself. Using the Force without being centered can give Dark Side points and makes most things harder. But none of this control+sense+alter nonsense. You've either got the Force or you don't. Your milage may vary.

If the PCs are within striking range of Vader at the end of their turn, roll a new character sheet.

I want to start a campaign on Scarif right after the Death Star's blast.

I want the players to be a group of rebels that somehow survived the blast and now need to make it off world to rejoin the Rebellion

The visuals would be that of red burning trees and islands in the distance, ash and embers flowing in the air. The smoldering ruins of what's left of the communications tower. Dark stormy weather, caused by the blast.

A few Imperial Troops paroling sent in as clean up duty, and to survey the damages. Think the Bikini Atoll after the atomic Bomb.

Timing will be tricky, but it might work.

>The ship is full of smuggling compartments that not even the owners are all aware of. However dock officials seem to have a knack for finding them, and many *still* contain ill-gotten goods from the previous owner.

>The ships nav computer has the unnerving tendancy to log routes with a 2% accuracy loss each system... which compounds with greater distances. There is a significant 20% chance of ending up in a system near the destination after every 10 systems calculated on the trip, and a 50% chance of ending up fuck knows where if calculating a route out past 25 systems.

First Order Stormtrooper armour does not (I believe it is explained away as a cost-cutting measure, same with the lack of integrated fancy optics for their helmets), but I think the original Stormtrooper armour does.

That said, I imagine that Chemical Weapons in the Star Wars universe would be intended to overpower most standard filters, so there would likely be fancy variants for it.
