While I like SU and I think it has a lot of good in it, Gravity Falls is EASILY better in my opinion. Dipper and Mabel have such a great and realistic relationship, Soos is adorable, Wendy is amazing, and Grunkle Stan is the funniest character I've ever seen on Disney ever. The show is great for everyone, the plots are amusing and well crafted, and everything about it feels polished and fun.

It legitimately amazing, and you're missing out if you don't watch it, especially since it's only two seasons. The series finale actually made me cry.

If you're unarmed then Dragon Style is what you're looking for. If you want a combat maneuver then most of the specific maneuver styles aren't traps. Wolf for trip, kitsune for dirty trick, krakken for grappling. Tiger style is good if you're looking for pseudo-pounce.

I've done a terrible thing /pfg/

I was at the bookstore, checking out some other games, when a small group came in to look at the 5e section. They asked me about systems, said they were all into 5e but interested in other systems. Told them I was just browsing, mostly play PF.

They asked more about PF, about classes and concepts. I said that it was higher power to a silly degree, just look at the numbers in the Bestiary, can be a headache to DM at times. Warned them of the martial-caster gap. Warned them about trap options. Warned them about the terrible Paizo community.

They said they're going to get into PF, so many options to try. At least I talked them into using the SRD instead of the books.

Gladiator/Myrmidon Fighter (background is an enslaved pit fighter) with improvised weapons (combat scabbard mostly), scimitar, TWF (spiked shield offhand), and throwing weapons (throwing shield). Is it viable, or am I spreading myself too thin? Variety and adaptability is kind of the premise for how the character fights, so would that work? DSP is the only 3pp the GM is really cool with, btw.

I still can't decide between sticking with Warlock Vigilante or switching to Alchemical Scoundrel.

The question mainly is I am not sure what will fit better as a spy/infiltrator. Honestly Alchemy is a big cooler for a spy than just straight casting.

Issues would be I would change to melee rather than casting in combat and there seems to be a lot of melee folks already, but as a 6 level caster my DCs are pretty low anyway.

As well alchemy isn't much better for my skills than wizard casting overall, but extend spell is fairly important later on for buffing for skills. However, alchemy lacks stuff like charm person and the like.

If I really wanted to be a skill monkey it would require stop being a vigilante and switch to investigator. If I wanted to play to being a spy the Witch would be rather good, however as a witch I'm gonna miss out on a fair number of skill ranks (three less per level). Also cool vigilante talents are hard to get, but with legendary vigilante you can get them with feats.

I have had luck before as a summoner skill monkey as well, but that just adds to the options.

So at this point I'm at:

It's about on sorcerer level post paragon-surge nerfing (not that it didn't need said nerfing). This is purely for the Psion, which is the most "full caster" of the lot, with earliest access to the highest level powers and all that.

Just like a wizard, the highest levels of psionics offer strong divination, demiplane creation, things like that. But even Psions are more restricted: They get a smaller general list and pick one specialization which is their "strong powers" list (whether blasting or otherwise), so it's not quite as insane as a sorcerer. They have a limited number of powers known as well.

The top-of-the-line psionic classes are tier 2.

The level 6 manifesters ("partials" just like partial casters, etc) are pretty much all T3/T4, and have good utility, pretty much everything you'd expect. The Aegis is probably the highest pinnacle of Tier 3, but just has no non-WBL access to things like wishes, interplanetary teleports and all those other campaign-breaker spells/powers that the tier 1/2s can perform.

Stuff like soulknives used to be one of the worst classes, but recent archetypes make them very solid, effective characters with quite a bit of fun and flavor to them too. You can do a lot with them nowadays.

They said in a recent interview that they're overhauling the damage system - HP, armor, accuracy, and damage. They didn't go into details about the mechanics of the system there, but they did say that if you took a typical shirtless barbarian dude from pathfinder and plopped him into Starfinder, it's very likely that some guy with an assault rifle will be able to put him down no problem

This is... concerning, because Paizo has consistently shown that they don't really understand numbers and the math involved in this sort of thing. I give an 80/20 chance for it going one of two ways

The more likely way it will go is that they make something akin to Dark Heresy's combat system, where good armor and toughness will save your life nine times out of ten, but if you don't have them you may as well erase your character sheet.

the less likely way is that they actually learn about numbers as they go. I'm not super hopeful about this, but... well, I just hope this is the one that happens.


I'm personally going to be looking into the mechanic and soldier classes. See how well they do what they do.

Pretty much all the current applicants except Staypuft's are easily workable for comfiness. The thing is, comfy does not mean "directionless with no goal", it just means you're not on the edge of madness defending against the hoards of demons (that's on the other side of the lake and north a bit).

I thought that Molthune was an Elected Military Oligarchy IIRC, which is pretty democratic, and it states in the ISWG that citizens do have the right and privilage to participate in various forms of local governance. Combine that with the citizenship extension laws being currently pushed by Teldas and his crew, and I think Molthune is already well on its way to decent democratization through controlled and lawful means, without the need of subversive elements.

The issue is that there's
1. Not any kind of lore on who gets land besides "Immigrants are promised land in exchange for military service or labor for the state,"
2. Only being level 3 restricts what people can do with out "DECADES OF WAR"
3. People don't want to play the veteran all the time, since age penalties could be a bitch
4. There's little direction from the GM on what constitutes an act worthy of landing.

So unless you want everyone to be old, grizzled, male, human, fighters that have been in the army for 25 years, you better get the stick out of your bum.

Well initiators absolutely will flip your table on you at a low level of play. If you have casters played optimally in levels 1-10 then they will essentially be equals, but some people can't or don't want to play their casters that way, and it's about the same level of fun for the other people at the table playing low-tier or low-op characters when you do it. Beyond that point (6th level spells) the optimal casters will leave them totally in the dust.

SOME (like broken blade or the like) of the path of war disciplines add a bit too much damage for levels 1-2. it's iffy at 3 but by 5th is no longer an issue.

The big "problem" will make you laugh. Psionic (including soulknives now with the newer archetypes and high-psionics free-gifted-blade-manifesting, cuz long ago soulknives was in a bad bad place below Core-Only monk) and PoW characters have a higher FLOOR of optimization than most of the paizo materials.

That is to say: They're ACTUALLY VIABLE out of the box. The ceiling's no higher - in some cases a bit lower - than the classes they're competing against for one's "role" or concept plans, but the FLOOR is, you know... at sea level instead of in the dirty sewers.

This creates conniptions and tantrums like you wouldn't believe (most of us have too much faith in the basic intelligence of mankind to believe it). How DARE they, HOW DARE they be usable if you just pick the class without having to trudge through thirteen books? HOW FUCKING DARE THEY?

Combine this with PFS, where the average character will lose initiative, get surprised, and fall to his death in response to having to climb a flight of stairs with no enemies in sight, and you get a very interesting source of player outrage.

there's several myths that have been perpetrated a long time, though it's true that in 3.0 you could do a certain cycling (it took a while) out of combat to recover your PPs. That's long been removed though, and can't be done in pathfinder.
