Pathfinder General /pfg/

How do you like your cute wizards? Can they still be cute if they dump Str and Cha and use Int for their social skills? Can they still be cute if they bend game balance?

>THIS IS IMPORTANT!
If you want build advice make sure to say what 3pp you can use, if any.

So I reworked the family banner. This is what we fly in times of war.

Next pic is the family sigil.

The Sigil, by itself.

Family name:
House Maar

Motto:
"Torn From The Roots"

Is there anything else an aspiring noble house needs? We have a plan for the village which is:
>begin with brewing
>move into alchemy
>move into higher education
>form college of the mortal sciences

Also what professions does a leader need? I have Profession (Barrister) at the moment as what as what I think is a pretty good skill suite. +17 to Diplomacy & Bluff, but not for feinting or gather information.
>>
>>50876485
Unoptimized wizards are cuter.

>>50876485
There seem to be a lot of items with lewd potential in Pathfinder.

Same for abilities, monsters, etc, but less so.

What are your favorites?
>>
>>50876618
Not exactly lewd, but I want to fill a portable hole full of water and put a cauldron of brewing in so I can have a hot tub that fits in my pocket.

More lewdly, I like rings of bondage.

Did you forget to take Weapon Focus (Net)? I'm sure you can find a bonus feat somewhere for that - or maybe there's a Damnation Feat that covers it?

Either way, you've done well enough for Stage One. Do you know what you plan to do with said Paladin now that you've captured him?

We mostly had some trouble making ranged attacks with nets into melee, because nobody had Precise Shot.

>last one says his commander will buy him as a prisoner and that they didn't do the raid
>party head out
>find the hobgoblin military camp

>commander makes it clear he does not trust the party, but knows they are hired swords and not soldiers of the other nation, offers an exchange
>they have one of the people who has been raiding
>they have him tied to a pole inside the camp, skin flayed off of one arm and left to fester, nails torn off both hands, etc.

No, because those are called "know it alls" and they're inherently obnoxious.

Int to social skills should get you looked at in the same way as you would look at an autistic dickhead for proving you wrong or claiming that they are right and you should do as they say. They might actually be right but it doesn't make them less obnoxious about it. Int=/=Cha.

Attractive yes. There are characters that are described as physically attractive with low Charisma (see Orik).

Endearing, generally no. That being said, you could grow used to their behavior.
>>
>>50878053
Much as this crowd and paizo likes to pretend charisma (which in the stat description includes appearance) doesn't matter, the fact is, you need to be attractive to be attractive.

Hackmaster did it best: Looks was a separate base attribute but connected to Charisma. Looks governed initial reactions while Charisma let you work from that initial result with social stuff from that point on. Which is quite sensible.

The two also grew and fell together: post character-creation If your charisma went up, your looks did too, and vice-versa; because yes, handling yourself better and having more self-confidence shows, but being just plain hotter also gives you those in return too.

Looks COULD go negative (bad roll and shitass charisma, or various disfigurements) too, but negative looks was equal to positive looks when dealing with naturally evil inhuman intelligent monstrous creatures.

In other words nothing likes someone with 0 looks, but get yourself to -25 and gibbering mouthers will land to sing on your shoulders, and otyughs might fucking die from the exact same effects that seeing a nymph does to us.

>>
>>50878171
This isn't a thread about Hackmaster, this is a thread about Pathfinder. Charisma is a mental stat fist and foremost. It plays a part in appearance, but you can be physically attractive and have low Charisma.

You won't be endearing though. People won't naturally flock to you.
>>
>>50877860
>>50877883
Doesn' mean they're attractive, charming, cute or cool, it just means they're smart enough to talk circles around you and convince you through arguments and being a stubborn dickhead about it.

Collette is a int based social person. His argument are very factual and often convincing, but only a moron or ignoramus thinks he's cute.
>>
>>50878198
Still enjoy crunching out Comeliness scores, but it's kind of over-complex. That said, I do like it better than the "take the average of all physical scores plus Charisma", since it ends up with more variance.

only one stat in pf has anything to do with it:
>Charisma measures a character's personality, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and appearance.

>Charisma measures appearance
>Charisma
>appearance
>APPEARANCE

people say what they fucking want in their descripts but let's be honest for a second: that ability score governs it, and mechanically almost nothing else ever does so.
>>
>>50878222
> convince you through arguments and being a stubborn dickhead about it.
> being a stubborn dickhead about it.
Where are you getting this from.

Forming a fucking argument and not just using "Feels" to convince people doesn't automatically make you an stubborn dick head about it. Especially since a Charisma person can also be a stubborn dick head, they just get results.
>>
>>50878241
And there is precedence for characters having low Charisma in Paizo materials being described as attractive.

There are examples in other versions of D&D that decribe people that aren't attractive, but have high charisma.

Charisma is not the end all be all of physical attractiveness. The attractiveness part comes from you knowing how to carry yourself/personal presence.

To elaborate. Int is pretty much only good if you were using Int anyway as a class feature. Like more skills are nice, but they're just Icing. Wisdom contributes DIRECTLY to your survivability in a way Charisma and Int does not. There's a reason why most Warders are suddenly Ordained Defenders now.
>>
>>50878558
Don't forget that the most-rolled skill of all (Perception) keys off of WIS.
>>
So here is a discussion. Who of the current Molthune Knights is best established to become a noble? Marry off their sons/daughters, contacts, etc. Who had the best start?
>>
>>50878558
Skills are actually important. Knowledges let you know what you're actually fighting.

>There's a reason why most Warders are suddenly Ordained Defenders now.
That's actually just because of a free discipline and Conversion.

If Ordained Defender was still Intelligence, people would still fucking leap at it.
>>
>>50878489
I unfortunately don't know a ton about heraldry. Flag design is a bit different, colors can touch, you tend to only see red, blue, white, yellow, green, and black, and any flag design found be easily recognized by a child. If I had to give any opinions, it'd be that the tree bits are too thin. Again, not familiar with heraldry as much as vexillology, so don't take it to seriously. The brown of the sigil might not play nicely with the other colors, yellow and brown are odd sometimes.
>>
>>50878673
Not shit, at that point it's a free upgrade.
>Skills are actually important. Knowledges let you know what you're actually fighting.
Not as important as actual will saves. But I'd argue that seeing the shadow coming to kill you is more important than nowing what it is, especially when knowledge are easy enough o pass without being Int based and there are so many of them that it actually balances out the bonus skill points from being Int in the first place.
>>
>>50878312
If third party, Knight Disciple is pretty good.

First party, Chosen One is pretty fun. You delay some stuff a bit but end up with a familiar. Other than that you pretty much just build them like you always did, either with a big stronking sword or going for divine archery.
>>
>>50878728
You won't even know what the fuck you're fighting if you've got 0 ranks in a Knowledge skill.

Knowledge is trained only past DC 10.

Most humanoids like elves are hyper common and below 10. Goblins for instance are a DC 5. Rare humanoids are higher.

A maneuver available in an optional subsystem that players will either need a certain class or series of feats to have access to.

But since DSP is on the table. Let's talk about how a DSP character can get Wisdom to Attack, Damage(potentially triple with no action or feat investment either before you mention Kirin Style), HP, and AC!
>>
>>50878851
A troll for instance isn't "common" and is a DC 13. Without a knowledge check you don't know how regeneration works.
>>
>>50878868
And you can still put points in Knowledge without being Int based

3 ranks+3 from class skill is a +6
>>
>>50878885
Most "common" monsters you can manage with a take 10. Uncommon you can't unless you're int based.

Uncommon and rare are 15+CR.

So a stone troll would be DC 20.
>>
>>50876485
Someone of any stats can be "cute", you just have no ability to persuade or change what people think of you by talking alone when your charisma is low. If someone wants to do or request something *by default* based on what they see at first, including snuggle you because your described appearance is in some way cute to them, or keep a watchful eye on you for being obviously a wizard, that isn't affected by your charisma. You just can't change their mind. So they'll never let you go.
>>
>>50878855
>Let's talk about how a DSP character can get Wisdom to Attack, Damage(potentially triple with no action or feat investment either before you mention Kirin Style), HP, and AC!

You'll need to do some dipping and some feat spending for that.

Seriously a feat, a monk dip, and being an Elan nets you all that.

Drop the monk dip and that still gets you

What's so great about them? They don't serve meta-human interests! They seek to tear down our homes and our lives! And unlike the gods above and below, they don't even pretend to understand our plight! They claim to bring despair and hope and the end for us all, but why do they wait? Why do they sit and do nothing!

Because they are afraid! They dare not attack in fear of retaliation of us mortals! It's the same as the gods -- No war between heaven and hell will happen on earth so long as mortals exist, for only us mortals will be victorious! So they hide in their heavens and hells, content to steal our souls and wipe our memories so that we may be shaped to their desires and eventually turned to hunt our brethren.

Do not listen to Pharasma's lies.

You misunderstand stranger, I don't need an idea for a one shot I need an idea of what level to kick the players off at to make the one shot more interesting than goblins and kobolds. The general concept of the one shot has them all fighting a wizard, they all end up teleported to another plane of existence where the sky is falling with all kinds of things that were teleported there. They team up because it's in their common interests to survive together and then a castle falls, inside? A wizard to slay. Basically made it idiot proof so regardless of what they play, they can play together and it's always been fun to think where all the shit wizards teleport away ends up so I made a demiplane which is essentially all the wizards dumping ground.

I'm trying to work out the downtime rules and I'm pretty sure I just have this all wrong but I have re-read the rules like 3 times at this point and I'm still a little confused.

Regarding the skill checks to earn gp/capital the rules say:
"If you have multiple buildings or organizations in a settlement and they can generate the same kind of capital, you don’t have to roll for them separately— you may add all their capital modifiers together and attempt one check for that kind of capital."

If that is implying that I can make a separate check for each building then why would I ever not make individual checks? Take 3 Garden buildings for example, the each have a +8 bonus for gp generation so as I see it I can add up all the bonuses to 24 and then make a skill check, take 10 = 34 which you then divide by 10 to get 3gp 4sp. Which all makes sense but I don't understand how making separate checks for each room works, if I'm making individual checks for each room wont that add 10+ (for the skill check roll) to each check and therefore +1gp per room if I make the check individually? I'm sure it does work like this but I can't seem to get my head around how it would work. Help a nigga out.

He also has +27 to diplomacy, he should have been able to straighten out any clerical errors.

Unrelated to the shota issue is the way his backstory reflects his character choices. It's not just 'he's a wizard, he casts spells,' it's 'he's a third level wizard so he casts cantrips, first and second level spells,' and 'he's skilled at disguise, probably because of some connection to the fey,' because he has the doppleganger-spawn ART.

Stop for a second and imagine if you were reading a backstory. It entered a description of a duel and you read 'as he took the field he shifted to an /einhander stance/.' Why is einhander stance italicized? Because he's switching to Scarlet Einhander. But Scarlet Einhander isn't a story thing, it's a mechanics thing. It has no place in the backstory as 'Scarlet Einhander'.

Standard Pathfinder conventions don't apply to writing your backstory. In your backstory you don't write that your character is a tiefling (Pitborn) paladin (Sacred Servant).

Is it possible to make a good gun-user in Pathfinder without using advanced firearms? Or heck even with them? It seems to me they have the same problem as full plate, with the devs being unable to decide whether to be realistic or game-like, and taking the worst aspects of both as a compromise.

Yeah, well, people are willing to pay 2000 gold for a +1 ring of deflection or +1 amulet of natural armor. those two are worth more because they apply to more scenarios, but if you're trying to maximize your AC, then full plate is fairly worth it.

You can make a stealth check while concealed, and this gives concealment.
>>
>>50881549
You can use stealth with it, since you have concealment/total. It does work until your next turn, in which case you can hide behind something else or start it again (Ask you DM on that if you're see in between.) It may not end earlier if you stab someone else, but you'll still take penalties for stealthing between attacks.
>>
>>50881485
First, yes, and thanks. Second, I was a bit worried about that, but I figured a few things. 1st, any place that can fit a troll or a giant or any other Large or larger creature can fit a horse, 2nd, Mori can squeeze through tight spaces, he just takes a penalty to AC and attack rolls while doing so, and has to move slowly, 3rd, Seht's a full initiator/6th level caster, so even without the advantage of riding Mori I'm sure he'll be plenty strong.

There are options, most of them 3pp and roundabout.

1) in reality, within their range, early firearms are stronger than regular advanced if you put the feats into it. Simply put a rifle doesn't do 2d12.

2) as the two largest drawabacks are no stat to damage and the price, the primary bypass is in the form of weapon generator classes.
>Call Weaponry
>Sleeping Goddess
>Armorist Class
>Warsoul

the big advantage of the psi and path of war options is that you know that damage people bitch about being too high on here? that damage you're basically lacking from a firearm? Hi there. combo time.
