Yeah, as an Admech player Skittles haywire is waaaay more bullshit than anything the clowns can pull off, leave em alone.

Even Skitarii haywire isn't too bad though, its decent for blasting through big tough things like Land Raiders, but it's equally possible you burn 60 points on rifles that kill one Rhino. It's the same as expensive high-T units, they're vulnerable to stuff that ignores that.

So I have done a re-reading of the recent Imperial campaign books.

All them take place in 999 41K and they all share a lot of thing in common. Primarily....Cadians

>Sanctus Reach
>Shield of Baal
>Mont'ka

The primarily forces of each book featured the Cadians. And the given numbers about the Astra Militarum were billions.

The proceed of these conflicts saw the Cadians absolutely and crushingly massacred. Shield of Baal ended with majority of the Cadian regiments are dead and the tattered survivors limping back to Cadia to fight Abaddon's new crusade. Mont'ka ended with 50%+ of the campaign forces lost. Sanctus Reach while no concrete details were given we are told that the Astra Militarum got wrecked in the fight.

In the span of under a year, the year of the 13th Black Crusade, billions of Cadians met their ends in far off conflicts.

Of course that would happen if you expend Cadian blood this recklessly. Why is the Imperium such dumbfucks? Are the Cadians the only regiment around in the galaxy? Why couldn't they rely on other worlds for conflicts outside the Cadian sector, especially when they know that the 13th is coming?

In Mont'ka for example, the book says that the landers deployed billions guardsmen on the ground. In the end if war, 50% of the Imperial forces were left stranded on the planet. Then the planet was nuked...

The writers have to do this because Cadians are the mainline sold by GW. They can't sell models for made up regiments or OOP metal ones.

I want to build a Blood Angels army, I like that they are space marines but with an edge in assault.

Wondering how to build an army list.

Should I go all-out assault or should I build it like a balanced Demi Company and simply remind myself when playing games that they aren't completely helpless in melee should it come to that?

I'm considering taking units like devastators but clearly they aren't able to make use of the Blood Angel's strengths.

So I tinkered with this list based on a post in the other thread, mentioning I don't have a lot of weapons to penetration Av14. He mentioned replacing the Cohort Cybernetica with an Elimination Maniple and adding some Grav Destroyers and getting rid of my two 5man Ranger squads. So I tinkered around, came up with this but I'm still not satisfied.

Did a little research and I'm coming up short on how to keep what I want and also be at most semi effective. I don't think I'm liable to win any tournaments without a War Convocation or something.

Any suggestions?

Assault weapons like heavy flamers and meltas are your bread and butter.
run them in 5 man squads in sanic fast razorbacks or drop them down in 10 man squads in drop pods.
Only take special weapons you cant shoot and charge with on bikes so they get to shoot and charge anyway.
Devasators are pretty ok, but blood angels get superior predators and vindicators for heavy duty stuff.

There's also the fact that Cadians inhabit far more than just Cadia. They're the general forefront of Imperial colonization efforts, tons of worlds are inhabited, defended, and create new Cadian regiments. It's not just the one world.

Or in plastic. Valhallan greatcoat troops would be excellent, especially considering how they did Skitarii troops (although those coats need liquid greenstuff to patch their gaps, fuck).

Similarly, the other formerly produced Imperial Guard regiments have a lot to offer; Mordian's much more regimented and uniformed look, the Tallarn's desert fighter looks, and Vostroyan's regal appearance.

But if anything, they should at least rework the Astra Militarum basic troop lines for the ever-present issue with model scale. But I suppose we always have Victoria and other 3rd parties to make the kinds of guardsmen we want to field.

Well, Magnus is getting his own Tzeentchian line, and we have a few other flavors of Space Marine with their own Codexes. It's possible that, if they can drive down the cost of guardsmen and actually give them an interesting and balanced Codex, they could generate enough interest for a couple variations.

Elysians and DKK are covered by Forge World, so we don't need to focus on them. But Valhallans would be a great variation on basic Guardsmen, as would Mordians. Harakoni Warhawks get a few mentions, but are otherwise very similar to Elysians. Would also be great to run Valhallan Ice Warriors next to Space Wolves.

They might well dress like Loyalists, although most any CSM basic armor will work. Alphas are nothing special in equipment and focus, but they do love to spend the lives of those they can sucker into fighting for them (mostly cultists) and otherwise are very generalist in focus, fielding what's useful for any situation and possibly even imitating the specialties of other legions if it suits them.

Their aesthetic is basically a color scheme. A good one at that.

But if you want to go maximum trolling, make them out of Battle of Calth MkIV armors. Alpha Legion does stay out of the Warp as much as possible, preferring not to commit to any Dark Power specifically or totally, and they've been known to steal other Marine Chapter's recruits and equipment. They very likely have a good deal of uncorrupted war materiel, as it makes it easy to masquerade as loyalists when you don't have spikes decorating every inch of every piece of equipment in your armory.

Honestly, I think you're better off using Scions to have multiple small squads deep strike or loaded up in Taurox Primes than a Valkyrie for SoB. Unless you want to do that formation where they have 4 Valkyries in the Scion book.

Inquisitor plus Acolyte retinue could be all right to use with it, but I don't know how much use it will be to you. The problem is that it will be all out there on its own. Having at least 2 Valkyries makes it nice because it's not flying around having a big shoot me sign on it.

A lot of artwork from the Chaos Space Marine codices has always shown them as generic chaos marines with huge horned helmets. But I prefer the less spiked approach. The legion didn't retreat into the Eye of Terror after the Heresy so the marines and their armor are less warped than the other traitor legions. Also every member of the Alpha Legion prefers to go bald and clean shaven.

I remember a good AL army I saw. Beautifully painted marines in the alpha legion fashion, all loyalist bits mixed with a few chaos bits.
He had a ton of cultists who were generic cadians with little hydra trinkets or tattoos.

I've always thought as kind of a failure from GW's part to not give any of the absolute chaos aligned traitor legions any playable character as iconic and popular as Ahriman, Kharn, Lucius and Typhus are. Being the only exeption the Black Legion with Abaddon.
The Word Bearers could have gotten some kind of extremely over-zealous dark appostole who buffs you army.
The Alpha Legion, a stealth expert who fucks with your opponent in some way or the other.
The Night Lords, a close combat monster with night vision and jump-pack.
Iron Warriors, an obliterator special hq, or something similar with stuidly big guns.

I'm pretty much asking for a special snowflake for every legion, but if i do is because i think that would've been cool.

Anon earlier suggested I buy a knight for Anti armor, but if I'm adding a Knight, and already using Dominus Maniple, why not just do War Convocation? Also it has the benefits of using every unit in the codex, for variety sake.

Tied a game vs. Nurgle Chaos (and a little Khorne) with my Admech a couple days ago. Dragoons did work lancing boils, killed a Predator, Rhino and then tarpitted two CSM squads and some Possessed for two turns.
Side note. The Axe of Blind Fury is fucking terrifying. RIP Infiltrators and Vanguard, taser managed to toast the whole squad and put the Lord on one wound, then the Vanguard gave their lives to keep the Dominus safe, who then chopped his head off with his own axe.

Also, the Eternal Warrior trait on the TPD is awesome, he tanked two Laspreds for half the game and never went below two Wounds.

Nearly won, but while I was dealing with some late-arriving Terminators (failed all their reserves then mishapped back to Ongoing Turn four) a group of CSM Ran into Linebreaker, tying it up at 7:7.

Rate my War Convocation. I wanted to go full AdMech, and still felt dirty building it, but it's pretty intuitive overall I think. I just like using all of the units in the codex, almost.

Note the altered point costs next to the units and junk. I don't think I can squeeze out 10 points anywhere.

Holy shit. I'm just about to finish my WarConvo once I've built the Knight, and that's a lot of punch. With a Knight Warden and dropping the Kastelans, I might even be able to fit it into 1500 if I want to teach the suitspam Tau player a lesson. I did not realise just how much firepower that gives you.

Seeing as you lack Haywire rangers, maybe swap the Kastelans for two units of Breachers or one unit of 6? That caps your points neatly at 1850, as well as providing excellent anti-air with the Rainment.

Aww, but I like the Kastelans. Mostly because 'Giant Robots'. I figured I'd use the Rangers as Objective Campers and just take potshots from the other side of the board. If I gave them Arc Rifles and used them as light armor hunters, they'd likely die pretty easily before being able to do their job.

More Dunecrawlers would be nice probably. And that 4++ is pretty nice. Is the Icarus Array the best option, or should I go with the Neutron Laser? Think I'm more keen on the Laser, since it's more all-purpose.

For good units...
Warbosses with power klaws, weirdboyz, painboyz, 15 point meks for supporting squads and eating challanges.

Grots with squighounds, a basic 85 point shoota boyz squad with nob and a big choppa is to smash up vehicles, don't bother investing in a trukk for them.

Tank bustas are actually decent, feel free to take a few in trukks or better. Meganobz are good.

Deffkopters with TL-rokkits, dakka jets as long as you're not using death from the skies, warbiker boyz are another actually good unit and massed warbuggies with TL-rokkits.

Mek gunz are one of the few units you can call good without adding "for Orks". Battlewagons are good and lootas are good.

Playing an introductory game with my brother tomorrow at 500 points, are these lists balanced enough to teach the game with?

Main reason I properly equipped things was to get a more "realistic" feeling of how things would work and to actually use the wargear the models are using.

i don't know if i want the emperor's champion and a bunch of scouts or a cheap iron hands hq and a group of non-slot techmarines and some scouts, throwing relics all over.

Who cares. The only CSM formation that allows Land Raiders anyway is Fist of the Gods, which is kinda ass in the first place. Just get a Sorc and two units of Cultists so you can include a CAD.

Not sure what you're doing with your Lord. The Black Mace isn't great on a Lord, and a few of the Alpha Legion relics allow him some degree of flexibility (give him the AP2 bolter and put him with the plasma squad, buff your cultists with the icon, whatever.)

Change some/all of that plasma to melta or you'll have issues with high armour values.

I'd also echo >>50875293. The Black Mace is for Daemon Princes. You can get a Power Fist / Lightning Claw combo for 5 points less, and it will be a lot more flexible and effective against most targets.

Come the Apocalypse is only 6". It's not that hard to keep the two armies 6" from each other. The only difference between them and Desperate Allies is that you can't start them out within 12" of each other.

let's see off the top of my head it would go like this, note that i'm rather terrible at this so i usually just pull out some dice
>10 guardians shoot at 10 marines not in cover and all 10 in range
>20 shots at bs4 means 67% hit, for 13.4 hits
>s4 on t4 means half will wound for 6.7 wounds. shuriken is 16% so 1.07 rend
>marines have 3+ for 67% against the remaining ap5 wounds so 1.65 wounds taken

tl dr 3 marines die against guardian shooting and 1 was shredded by shurikens, they probably pass their leadership check

Actually White robes with red armor is Metalica, which is one of the canon Forgeworlds I'm sorta basing my guys off of. I just didn't want to copy someone else's scheme, so to say.

Are wyverns any good? Building a Hydra kit and I feel too lazy to magnetize the barrels in case I suddenly feel like dropping my anti aircraft capabilities for a wyvern.

Wyvern are considered one of the best Guard units for the points. Re-rolling to hit and re-rolling to wound is pretty comfy. I would personally magnetize the thing because outside of Hydras and extra expensive Missile Launcher shots, there's not a lot of anti-flyer in the Guard list.

Great example of marketing forcing the fluff down illogical paths. As far as the sales team is concerned, only 5 different planets in the entire Imperium produce Guardsmen.

Compare to Gaunt's Ghosts, where Abnett whips up new and interesting regiments at the drop of a hat, or even the 5th edition BRB, where the Guard page has art of 5+ original regiments.

If you need to rationalize it, go with the idea that they're regiments trained on the Cadian model to the point where they're indistinguishable from actual Cadians, or the descendents of Cadians who aged out of the Guard and settled on other worlds.

At least GW is scaling the numbers up to match, though. Shame that they can't do anything about the insanity of hundred-man Space Marine companies.
