I still need to cut 6 cards. I'm reluctant to cut counterspells that draw but some of them are probably suboptimal. I do want to stay at 38 lands though.

It's decent if storm is a problem in your meta.

That said, storm decks often have a crapload of mana when they combo out (either through untap + high tide effects or Waste Not triggers), so simply paying for each seperate flusterstorm trigger happens surprisingly often.

Counterflux or Summary Dismissal do the job far better there (they also cost 4 mana though).

People often tap out to cast stuff, or you get 2-3 copies with your original, so it still works most of the time for other purposes. Still just generally a worse option than Swan Song.

I think because of the massive mana of edh Storm decks, flusterstorm isn't really at its best against storm in edh

Instead I think it's best as just an efficient 1 mana counter that does well in those long edh lategame turns with 4-5 spells

Where can I find a solid primer or explanation on storm. I get the end result. Copying a storm spell 30+ times to annihilate the board. But I just don't get how their supposed to work.

Is there a video or a solid primer on the subject.

Cut: Washout (Engulf the Shore is better imo), Scatter Arc, Flutterstorm, Exclude, Dream Fracture, Dismiss, LED.

If you're plan is card advantage with Archive, you need ways to tutor the Archive up and not more counterspells. Bounce spells would also be helpful here in case something gets out while you're tapped out in a multiplayer match up.
Consider imprint cards like Isochron Septer so you can reuse your counterspells. Once you do that, you won't need as many and you'll get more milage out of them.
You're lack of creatures will get you killed. consider things like Living Lore or Kaho, Minamo Historian to not only resuse your instants but provide a blocker if you have to.

How does MoM + Arcanis win you the game? Kozilek is there, certainly, but you have no way to give it haste. Tidespout is there but you don't have a reoccuring spell to force the opponent to keep replaying things.
Find a way to untap Arcanis multiple times per turn: Freed From Real, Pemmin's Aura will allow you to untap Arcanis and keep your hand full at all times.
Also, making instants and sorcerys do more (Talrand, Sky Summoner) will also help you if Kozilek can't get the job done on his own.

You can go the obvious route of doubling Kaervek's effectiveness with Phyresis/Tainted Strike/Grafted Exoskeleton. You could just make it "nobody's allowed to have nice things" and just pack hella removal and shit. I just want to say that I'm rebuilding Arcanis as a better version of my first ever EDH deck. The first was pretty obnoxious but was very suboptimal.
Main plan isn't to find Archive, it's to find MoM. Archive is just there to help dig and sometimes gives more life from Venser's Journal.
MoM+Arcanis lets me draw my whole deck and infinitely tap/untap any artifact/creature/land.
It's very hard to disrupt without Spli Second, as you can just discard more cards to keep going off at instant speed. The combo also lets you replay any instants/sorceries an infinite amount of times, so the deck can either Blue Sun's Zenith or Stroke of Genius each opponent to death.
Tidespout Tyrant lets me get infinite storm for Brain Freeze.
I'm keeping Exlude, Dream Fracture, and Dismiss in though. Counterspells that replace themselves are top notch.

Horobi is super cheesy. Definitely play this if your meta is voltron-heavy, since those decks don't work while Horobi is in play.

You can also play with 30+ Relentless Rats (Marrow-Gnawer) or 30+ Shadowborn Apostles (Shirei). Demons might seem big and dumb but it's actually a pretty cool toolbox deck

How do you build decks that play different every time guys?
I often go in with the intention of this being how the deck should play out but in practice I find myself generally winning the same ways the majority of the time and I tend to get bored of it.

5 cards that win you the game? If you're hitting them off Hellcarver it doesn't really matter the order.

My preferred one is Ashnod's Altar + Reassembling Skeleton + Initiates of the Ebon Hand + Zulaport Cutthroat/Bitter Ordeal + Contamination/Defense Grid (For protection)

There's also Lich + Repay in Kind + Contamination + Mindslicer + Sac outlet (Last 3 are for protection)

If you don't get to Hellcarver out your pile, wait until you have enough mana to do one of the combos + Infernal Contract as your top card (replacing a piece of protection).

Maybe the most mana efficient way to do a monoblack pile is 1. Infernal Contract 2. Skirge Familiar 3. Mike 4. Trike 5. Victimize. This only costs 7 mana to win assuming you have one other card in hand to pitch to the Familiar. Otherwise it costs 8. The only reason I'm not running it is my irrational hatred of Mike and Trike...it just bores me that it's a default reanimator wincon, so I like trying new things.


I'm still getting the hang of all the possible combos in the deck . Doomsday is hard as fuck to play. I know that's a cliche, and I know I just need to git gud, but it's true.

Best way to get colossal amounts of damage is to have a Prismatic Omen out and play Boundless Realms for every remaining land in your deck. One guy also suggested floating all mana, dropping Scapeshift to sac the non-Valakuts and ramp out, then Splended Reclamation to drop another Mountain bomb. I'd try that but Scapeshift is kinda pricey

Step 1: accept that a Tribal deck is pretty much guaranteed to be "strictly worse" because you are imposing an arbitrary restriction on yourself.

Step 2: Allot yourself a specific and finite amount of 'off' slots for value creatures that don't fit the tribe. A SPECIFIC amount- say, 6 creatures. Decide which 6 make the cut of your pool of "the deck is strictly worse without this". Put them in.

Step 3: Build the rest of the deck.

I netdecked someone's Tazri->Zada list, won handily online a few times despite making several errors, and holy fuck this theme has a dizzying number of interactions. Honestly, I'd probably be afraid to build a similar deck with my playgroup, and it's not like they're slouches when it comes to budget, speed, resiliency, MLD etc.

Why not run some sort of lazav tempo deck? To be fair, as much as mine has some control, it's pretty much a glass cannon, and you either win by t6 or you get beat on early game and lose.

Put some double strike enchantments and equipments in the deck, extra combat steps, stuff to make yidris unblockable. Besides that you want at least the best delve cards (temporal trespass, treasure cruise, dig through time) and spells that untap lands (palinchron and friends, treachery, rewind, sword of feast and famine).

I'd put mind's desire in even if you weren't going for storm.

With all that double strike and unblockable stuff you'll easily have some good wincons if you just put some big guys in the decks, think avenger of zendikar, it that betrays, the praetors, you know.

you seem to misunderstand how theros gods work. they're enchantment creatures in your hand, so they are both enchantments and creatures. when you cast them, they are still creatures. but when they enter the battlefield, if there is not enough devotion, they turn into enchantments. once there is enough devotion, they go into their natural card type, which is an enchantment creature.

marchesa, black rose is hard to build because she has a very specific gimmick. you need to run a ton of weird cards to make it work to its fullest extent, and those cards are utterly useless if you don't have other cards to combo them with. so what happens is that you get hit by a merciless executioner at turn 4 and you can't do anything for the next 2 turns, and then you cast your commander again and it happens again. typically, your deck should work without your commander, and marchesa, the black rose doesn't really work that way in most cases.

you can build marchesa, the black rose as a standard reanimator, and then put her at the helm, and that will work. but still, i'd build queen marchesa since she's easier.

The deck's still a bit all over the place. Why? Well, intimidate is nice, the artifact mill thing is nice but Geth is best when your opponent doesn't see him coming. The flipside is, if you don't hit anything with your Geth mill, you're going to run out of gas real quick.

This is my deck. If you want some ideas on Queen Marchesa. It is probably my best deck. When i play with casual playgroups and my friends it's got a 50% w:l ratio. I get my ass blasted at the shop but they all run turn 3 infinite combos.

I need to edit the list but it is pretty good as it stands. I'd replace Royal Assassin with Spear of Heliod for more power but the flavor is good on Assassin. Replace zurgo with bloodgift demon, add phyrexian arena, change some of the shittier rocks for signets, replace chained to the rocks with path to exile. Add some exile based board wipes like Merciless Eviction or Descend upon the Sinful. And i'd cut a land for sun forger. I'm waiting for time/money to make some of the changes.

i'm mostly running him because he's interesting and funny. i like the idea of killing my opponents with their own creatures. i know i could do the same with chainer, but he would require a bit more build-around and protection, and struggles a bit when hated out. i used to run kokusho and he was so oppressive and powerful that it became a problem.

that's unlikely since i've built the deck to be functional around just the 99. i got so much draw and reanimation that i shouldn't run out of gas except if i get really unlucky. if there is nothing to reanimate, i'll wait for my opponents to cast creatures for me to kill. if there is something good to reanimate, then i'll reanimate.

the thing i'm not sure about is whether to include the weird voltron subtheme i have going on. do i really need swiftfoot boots and lashwrithe, should i replace those with stuff that works better in my theme? and so on

I want to be a super hipster and build a Kytheon, Hero of Akros deck. Any recommendations? Secret Tech? I think I'm going to go for anthems voltron to do commander damage with flipped gideon. I hear you but my reasoning is that being exiled and being in exile is like being destoried and being in the graveyard.
One is action that sends the pernament there and the other is a zone. Since you can send the comander to exile through the enchantment you can get the token.
And then redirect it before it enters exile.
And there are populate spells that can be used the one turn the token is out.
Its a real roundabout way of makeing token copies but pretty funny if it could be pulled off

I admit it's not the best source for info on a commander but someone new to the format or building a commander with a relatively unique ability that the average goodstuff isn't applicable for shouldn't be berated because of autism. And aside from the latest batch, the precons are fucking terribly made decks. Suggesting them for inspiration for deck design is misleading at best.

RULES QUESTION:

Can I use Bomat Courier's (R) ability in the middle of another card's effect?

Example 1: Cast wheel of fortune. Discard hand, pay (R) to use Bomat, get exiled cards to hand, then draw 7 on top of those?

Example 2: Activate memory jar. Hand goes facedown into exile. Use Bomat to gain bomat's exiled cards, then draw 7?

Even if it doesn't work that way, could bomat be used after the hand discard from jar but before original exiled hand is restored?
