PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: We are Release Day+2 on Rogue One. Please exercise proper spoiler usage when discussion it. That is all, people.

I was a bit surprised they used the whole Mujahedeen look for the extremists Rebels. I mean they are still the good guys even though they are extremists.[/spoilers]

>>
>>50719497
it was an interesting choice. I think their willingness to kill bystanders and comfort with hurting people in the way of their missions is a really good demonstration of the differences between the various rebel factions. Hearing rebel leaders later discussing surrender amongst alliance personnel was also very interesting.
>>
>>50719497
>>50719539
r1 did an excellent job of fleshing out the rebel alliance like it was in the eu, comprised of several disparate groups with different motivations and end games in mind
>>
>>50719457
oh wait rogue one is out? shit. should i watch it in theatres or just pirate?
>>
>>50718714

I kinda assumed it was very much a "Come as you are" modification, I mean, at least the MC-80's make some small efforts at standardization.
>>
>>50719527
Knock it off.
>>
>>50719588
Is based Garm back?

I just realized I probably won't be able to see the movie until the DVDs hit anyway, so might as well get the spoilers over with.
>>
>>50719593
Theater. It's great.
>>
>>50719593
It looks pretty good.

>>50719595
It would be neat if the whole thing can be detached, and then with the big ship hangar it would make it really easy to abandon ship.
>>
>>50719627
No. But Saw feels a lot like him, now. He's described as a more militant offshoot of the Rebellion that doesn't play along with the rest of the cool kids.
>>
>>50719593
Go watch it in theaters. I've only seen the non-3D version (yet) so i can't speak how for good the 3D is but the regular version is a really good movie.
>>
>>50719627
Garm himself isn't there I think. This was a few days before ANH, so he could still definitely fit in the timeline. he could even be another extremist faction like Saw's group, since they're implied to be a few other extremist factions (I think mon mothma describs Saw as 'one of' the extremist factions who left the rebellion)
>>
>>50719627
Garm is a no-show, but we do get a General Syndulla name-drop and based Tarkin on screen.
>>
>>50719627
>>50719644
i'm with this anon. saw, although ideologically different from garm (more spies and insanity, less mon mothma's a cunt), seems to fulfill the same sort of narrative
>>
>>50719593
Theater, worth it super hard. Better than Force Awakens.
>>
>>50719662

>Rebels cast
Meh.
>Tarkin
Neat. Heard that Cushing's likeness was going to be included. I'm guessing from the warm reception that they did it well.

>>50719644
Is he still glorious Corellian freedom-flavored or is he one of the potentially objectionable Space Mujahideen mentioned in a previous post? I haven't kept up with character names outside of Biggs, Discount Jan, and Diet Kyle.
>>
>>50719701
Nobody in Rebels actually shows up, just a couple shots of a VCX and Hera's name over the comms.
>>
>>50719701
Leader of the space mujahedin. Really sad about no based Garm, tho.
>>
>>50719728

>>
>>50719728

>>

>>
>>50719701
Space Mujahideen who, for no good reason, let's himself be blown up, so kind of a letdown. We did get a new Mon Cal admiral who's fucking great and managed to take down two ISDs with masterful tactical application of Y-Wing bombing runs and actual, corvette-to-destroyer RAMMING SPEED. Also Vader being badass. The Tarkin cameos were done through CGI application on an actor's face. Well done but kinda noticeable.
>>
>>50719701
Saw is a soldier who's been fighting for 23 legs. Both his legs and potentially his lungs and more are all gone, replaced by cybernetics. he leads the Mujahadeen rebels on Jedha, and its hard to say just how much his acceptance of collateral damage is because of a star destroyer that sits overhead or his usual play. Jyn is basically his adopted child, its implied he ditched her because his people wanted to use her as ransom since she's the daughter of an imperial scientist. He dies on Jedha yelling for Jyn to save the rebellion and the dream, and watching a cloud of death approach him to kill him. Its hard to say.

>>50719755
red squadron shows up, including Wedge on a radio. Blue Squadron is a mixed squad of U-wings and X-wings, and get some awesome scenes. They show up during the briefings, and while they all die they help keep the TIE strikers off of the ground troops, take down a number of AT-ACTs, and knock out a Star Destroyer's shield generator. We also see the Red 5 Luke takes the place of.
>>

Believe it or not, Gold Squadron's Y-Wings are instrumental, whereas the X-Wings play second fiddle. Also noticed the Tierfon Yellow Aces on someone's helmet.

The urge to open up these spoilers before seeing the movie is rising, might have to leave the /swg/ for a bit.
>>
>>50719817
Sadly its just someone calling for Red 2 and a radio response, although we also see Red Leader and Gold Leader.
>>
>>50719807
>whereas the X-Wings play second fiddle
they were helpful planetside. and red squadron outside of luke and wedge sort of sucked dick in anh
>>
>>50719832
Oh. Still neat. Same actors as in the OT but with CGI youth treatment?
>>
>>50719817
Name drop, but no actual voice, buddy. Also might have been a reference to Captain Antilles of the Tantive IV, because we also get a Leia cameo. We do get cameos for Red Leader and Gold leader from Ep IV and I'm fairly certain I saw Biggs' manly mustache at some point.
>>
>>50719847
I think it's clever editing from actual Ep IV footage for the pilots, Leia is CGI.

>>50719859
Just those guys or does the movie also herald the return of the Porkmaster?
>>
>>50719847
it was weird. they had a bit of a filter on them, it might have very well been the original actors or they might have wholesale lifted some of the shots from ANH and messed with them. I personally would guess actors with some filtering and CGI work, but it could be as >>50719859 says.
>>
>>50719866
No Porks were harmed during the making of this movie, but we see the previous holder of the Red 5 title and I'd say he's a solid contributor to Porkin's memetastic legacy
>>
>>50719627
>>50719859
>>50719866
>>50719880
I am 90% sure they straight up used ANH footage for Red Leader Pops and Gold leader. The lighting completely changes and the stars in the background seem a little more dated. not sure about Biggs. Tarkin and Leia were CGI, Tarkin';s was great but a little TOO animated at times, Leia's was not animated well at all.
>>
>>50719701

>I'm guessing from the warm reception that they did it well.

It's obviously fake but still remarkably well done considering. Like 99.5% realistic. And for the treat of getting Cushing's likeness in a new Star Wars movie I was personally willing to overlook the remaining .5%.
>>

my place of employment just announced a free employee screening. During the second watch through I'll pay close attention to that and see if I can provide a better answer.
>>

I still will see it again with friends, probably not going to buy tickets the second time, I'm still mad about some of disney's employment policies.
>>

>>
>>50719924

It's interesting, I actually thought Leia's was the better of the two. Although I admit I chaulked that up to the fact that she was on screen for far less time and did far less than Tarkin did.

Also, I vote we drop spoiler text by this time tomorrow. Anyone who hasn't seen it by that point and doesn't want to be spoiled should really just have the common sense to not be poking around in a 'Star Wars General'.

Well presumably the new employee is slightly less fucked than they were in the pollution related mutation capitol of the world.

But if they step out of line and Disney fires them? They get deported immediately, hence "Indentured Servant."

ADMIRAL Syndulla. The distinction is important -- GENERAL Syndulla would likely be Cham. Admiral all but has to be Hera.

I posted in last thread but only got one reply.

Can I please have some ideas for a Lore Heavy themed Force and Destiny campaign? I want to take my players on a journey into the past where Sith and Jedi are rooted in deep seeded mystery and legend, where beasts of the tales told around camp fires roam, and where magical artifacts can be found.
>>
>>50720060

I don't really see what the point is; it's all we're going to be discussing anyways so it's not like they'll be coming here anyways.

I suppose it could be argued that we're protecting those who are scrolling through /tg/ in general but really anyone attempting to avoid spoilers from any significant work of media should just avoid 4chan in general.

Ah, fuck it, until after the weekend it is.

>>
>>50719848
The Captain Antilles name-drop was the Antilles from Leia's blockade runner.
>>
Since it's not really a spoiler:

I'd argue the Tarkin parts were incredibly well done. There were a few moments that you could tell it was CGI, but only a few. He DID chew up the scenery a tad, and was a bit too expressive -- Cushing was a master of showing a full range of emotion with the quirk of an eyebrow. It was still fucking uncanny, like they threw him on ice in '77 and thawed him last year.
>>
>>50720128
The line was "General Syndula."
>>
>>50720259
In a galaxy where anti-gravity repulsor tech, mechanized limbs and flying droids exist, I find it just a tad difficult to believe that a well known, active soldier/leader/veteran can't just keep a bloody hoverchair handy, especially if his life functions depend on a weird breathing apparatus

Help me /swg/, you're my only hope.

Deathtroopers are my favorite type of trooper now, even if they don't really do shit. They just have a grace of motion to them that belies their athleticism and power, like real SAS types.

According to the visual dictionary, they're not just Krennic's, either. They're the best of the best, and used to guard critical operations and high profile Imperial leaders.

Not to mention, they're augmented with classified cybernetics. And DAT VOICE SCRAMBLER.

Pic related: 6'5" and made of durasteel.

LMAO2stock aside they are pretty amazing. I like shoretroopers and drivers too.

Though I wish they gave the drivers the Snowtrooper/veers chestplate.
>>
>>50722158
Also in the Visual Dictionary, they reference an earlier use of the name "Death Trooper," and tie it in with the old Legends undead zombie death troopers.

They're named after zombies, because Palpatine understand the power of symbols... and because they're said to be immortal.

Their unit is TI-23 "The Undying"

Squeee.

Can someone explain the FFG Init system to me? Because it doesn't make any sense at all.

Basically, as I grasp it...
Init roll is either Vigilance or Cool (depending on whether your surprised or ready), and players roll separately, while the GM rolls for the bad guys. GM tallies up the rolls, and based on the results, depends on whether bad guys go first, or the Party.

At which point the Party just decides who goes when in their own order?

And the Init roll has no difficulty attached too it, with Advantage having no real meaning. Thats where the system loses me, because it seems like an extraneous roll that doesn't rely on the mechanics, and results in the players deciding whatever they want anyway.

I houseruled it in my campaigns that Init has difficulty depending on the circumstances, and these being various levels of preparation or enemy presence (less prepared or more surprised = greater difficulty on the Init roll). At the same time, any successes and advantage (or failure and threat) rolled on Init is added to the first roll of a players turn, so the init roll results are not completely meaningless - coupled with the difficulty, this tends to balance out.

But please, if someone can help me out with what I'm not understanding about the Init system, I'd be grateful.

So, apparently according to the Rogue One ultimate guide ISDs have only 60 heavy turbos (plus a small handful more) and 60 ions, not 60 BATTERIES of turbos. That's a significant downgrade from Legends. (Though we don't know how significant, the exact barrel count on those batteries has always been vague.)

Star Destroyers have always been kinda stupid with the amount of guns they've been represented with, representing a massive leap from any comparable capital ship that exists or has ever existed.

Here is how it works: The rolls determine initiative slots, not exact player order. Advantages are important in the sense that they break ties. so let say we have 3 PCs, Tom Dick and Harry, and two NPCs, Inquisitor Billy and Agent Steve. Tom rolls 1S 2A, Dick rolls 2S 3A, and Harry rolls 2A because he sucks. Inquisitor Billy then rolls 3S 1A, while Agent Steve rolls 2S 1A. The turn order now looks like this:

1. NPC
1. PC
2. NPC
2. PC
3. PC

Both PCs an NPCs can take whatever initiative slots they want, but only get one slot per round. Agent Steve takes the first NPC slot so he can throw a grenade at the PCs before Inquisitor Billy gets in melee and spoils his shot. Dick takes the first PC slot to light up Inquisitor Billy with his blaster. Inquisitor Billy takes the last NPC slot and charges Tom, who takes the second PC slot to counterattack with his blade and withdraws to give Harry (who isn't really much of a fighter) a chance to take a potshot at Inquisitor Billy. Next round the PCs an NPCs will once again act in whatever is best for the situation within the restrictions of the initiative slots.

>>50722888
>Thats incredibly complicated

It may be different, but it isn't complicated. It just takes some getting used to. Have everybody roll, write their results on scratch paper, put together the order like I showed, then have at it. The PCs will decide what they will do for themselves, while all the GM has to do is manage the NPCs and track the order of the round. I really like the system personally because it as an interesting layer of tactical depth to combat. That said, the GM needs to make sure the players don't waste too much time arguing over who should take which slot and do what with it. Force them to make the choice if they take too long, they are supposed to be in combat after all.

I know it's just for a local group and not that big of a deal, but FFG actually never references the hull value directly. You'd be better off expressing this card as a 'If you have one or more Damage cards you may reroll up to 2 defense dice' and giving it Small Ship Only.

>You'd be better off expressing this card as a 'If you have one or more Damage cards you may reroll up to 2 defense dice' and giving it Small Ship Only.

Would that not be too strong on somthing like an arc that can get the reroll with 5 hull left, or does the 1 agility those kind of ships have limit it enough?
>>
>>50723075
Having cards with two colours (for example my group uses the committed to force cards from the Star Wars card game) for the slots makes it a lot easier to visualize the slots. Just lay out the cards on the table in initiative order. As a slot is spent the card is flipped. Once all cards are flipped just start the turn order from beginning.

If you have a lot of actors you can assign a token for each actor. As they start their turn they place their token on the initiative card to show that they have already acted this turn.
>>
>>50723628
That would make the card significantly stronger (and way too strong for one point). A Protectorate Starfighter or a Kihraxz would quite probably end up having 3 hull left with two rerolls to their evades.

It has 3 attack dice. That puts it on par with every other 3 native attack die ship in the game (and the Mangler Scyk). 17 pts base is a steal considering it is the cheapest 3 die ship in the game now. Any cheaper, and it'd be way underpriced. Now granted being cheap 3 die attack didn't help the original holder of that title, the PS 1 Interceptor. But even so, neither of those can comfortably go for less points without unbalancing the higher costed 2 die attack ships.

As far as 20pt Black Strikers go, that was to be expected. There is not a 3-die generic in the game that can take an EPT at less than 20pts. 20pts keeps the crackshot-generic spam down to 4 ships at most, which is fine. The dial is meh, but ailerons do a lot to speed the thing up considerably. And at least 3 pilots will see somewhat regular use.

In short, quit your bitching. Because you sound like someone who is oblivious to the balancing mechanics of the game.

>>Head of Imperial Intelligence is a woman
Cause she's the previous head's daughter.

>>Head of Imperial R&D and Tarkin's protégé is a woman
Literally fucked her way to Admiral rank. She was a simple Lieutenant but Tarkin thought she was good in bed and promoted her.

>>>Most important Emperor's Hand is a woman
Just cause COMPNOR has their non-HuMan policy doesn't mean Sheev follows it. Sheev himself doesn't care.

Daala and Isard both become heads of the Empire after sheev's death.
>>
>>50727609
I thought the Empire hated Aliens, based on Sheev's ideology of human supremacy, no doubt influenced by the tutelage of Darth Plagueis. While most of Plagueis' history has been relegated to "legends" he stated that from his observations humans had a strong competitive edge over most other species and he believed that under the right leader (read himself) they'd be in charge of pretty much everything. As it turned out he didn't even have to do anything because humans end up being in charge of most everything anyways. Humans lead the Empire, the Republic, the Rebellion, they have multiple representatives on the Jedi Council, the new Jedi Order is founded by Luke et cetra.
>>

To be fair, Tarkin's Homeworld and a number of other Coreward Planets banded together under Sheev to push the Humancentric thing. They'd been trying that under the Republic too and probably would have succeeded if Tarkin's Uncle(?) hadn't died in the Stark Hyperspace War.

Mara Jade hits all the typical Mary Sue points:

Tragic and conflicted backstory? Check:
>Raised to be a super special assassin, working for the Emperor.

Unnaturally special or has gratuitous connections to powerful people? Check:
>Was Emperor's Hand, worked directly with Palpatine. Was his favorite.

Is the best at everything she does? Check:
>Was the best Emperor's Hand. Left and completely changed tracks to become a smuggler. Quickly rose the ranks to be Talon Karrde's best smuggler - literally in a few months. Later, a Jedi. Became a Jedi Master.

Is attractive, and has her beauty mentioned in the story? Check.
>Duh.

Is written solely to have a love arc with another protagonist? Check.
>She was given orders to kill Luke, but falls in love with him. D'aww.

And then there's this quote:
"Mara once told this one that all it took to lift the Emperor'z veil from her eyes was a long walk in the forest with this man. That after she had come to know Luke Skywalker, it was easy to step into the light."
―Saba Sebatyne

>Tragic and conflicted backstory? Check:

Not that tragic or conflicted seeing as she was perfectly fine with being the Emperor's Hand.

>Unnaturally special or has gratuitous connections to powerful people? Check:
>Was Emperor's Hand, worked directly with Palpatine. Was his favorite.

Force Sensitive. Was led to believe she was his favorite.

>Is the best at everything she does? Check:
>Was the best Emperor's Hand.

Baseless claim.

>Left and completely changed tracks to become a smuggler. Quickly rose the ranks to be Talon Karrde's best smuggler - literally in a few months.

Talon Karrde's crew was tiny and she was his best operative because of her training.

>Later, a Jedi. Became a Jedi Master.

Her becoming a Jedi isn't a surprise. And, lets be honest, the standards for becoming a Master in the NJO are incredibly lax. Kyp "Killcount in the Billions" Durron is a Jedi Master after all.

>Is attractive, and has her beauty mentioned in the story? Check.

Not indicative of Sue status.

>Is written solely to have a love arc with another protagonist? Check.

BLATANT Falsehood. She never has any sort of Romantic Interaction with Luke until the Hand of Thrawn series, which was written years after the Thrawn Trilogy.

>Quote

Hyperbole. She constantly needles Luke through the Thrawn Trilogy as his calm and kind manner pisses her off immensely.

Not only is your definition of Mary Sue wrong, your points are bad. AT WORST, Mara Jade is a special snowflake in a setting full of special snowflakes.

No, it means a character that fans unanimously don't like, who bends the entire story around their presence, is perfect in everyway, always gets the guy(s) or girl(s), seemingly infallible, often has special powers that don't belong in the setting (magic in Star Wars, or is "Force Null"), is a write self-insert, and/or is a space marine.

I love that R1 was pretty much just a clean sweep across the board and that every single original character it introduced died. Seriously, if a character wasn't in the OT they were a walking corpse

>Jyn dies
>Cassian dies
>K-2SO dies
>Bodhi dies
>Baze and Chirrut die
>Saw dies
>Krennic gets hit by the fucking Death Star beam
>Jyn's mom dies
>Galen dies
>all if Galen's scientist buddies die
>that one rebel informant dies
>everyone in Jedha City dies
>including, presumably, the little girl Jyn previously saved
>all of Blue Squadron die
>that fat fuck Red Five dies
>Mon Cal Churchill and his whole crew (presumably) dies
>every Imperial in a Star Destroyer or the Shield Gate dies
>every rebel AND imperial on Scarrif dies

I think the only original characters who made it through the movie are Saw's insurgents who manage to fly away in the Z-95s and those Alliance Council pussies.

Mara Jade is possibly the worst "major" character in Star Wars. Rey is terrible. Finn was awful. JarJar was cancer. The rogue One chick was shit. However, all of these have been criticized by at least some large portion of fans, even if it isn't always the majority.

Mara Jade is the one shitty character that so many fans seem to love, and they seem to love her for absolutely no reason. She's a character that reads as if she was written by an angry 12 year old girl who had boys tell her girls couldn't like Star Wars.

>"Oh yeah? I'll show them! This girl is named Mara Jade, and she's super tough. Super cool. She's a super badass assassin and the Emperor's strongest servant. She's beautiful and smart and courageous and amazing at everything and is funny and always knows what to do. In fact even that STUPID SHIT BOY LUKE falls in love with her because she's absolutely amazing at everything ever.
>TAKE THAT BOYS. GIRL POWER.

Mary Sue was coined in the 70s when a woman wrote a joke character for a Star Trek fanfiction contest named "Mary Sue". She was extremely good at everything, beautiful, EVERYONE wanted to get with her, and she sacrificed herself in the end to become literally the greatest hero in history.

Now the term mary sue applies to similar characters, gag or otherwise.

No it's not, Anon. You can still use Black squadron.

Poe Dameron isn't technically part of a squadron, he's simply the leader of both Red and Blue squadrons for the Resistance. Blue is mostly the defense squadron, red is mostly the recon and attack squadron. Both squadrons get sent out to fight in the last part of TFA. Poe leads both squadrons, so he's "Black One".

West End Games D6, which is dated, but has a nice narative based system. If you don't mind how dated it is, its fantastic.

Star Wars d20 and Saga d20
Literally just D&D 3.5 with a star wars skin, while Saga is a weird proto 4th edition. Terrible, but its well fleshed out, and the rules are balanced. Saga is considerably better, so if you have to play one of the two, chose Saga

Here's a ship illustration that is the opposite of FFG's normal problem.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE STATS? Jesus CHRIST this has so much gun.

hahaha, wtf is that?! I want one

We asked you first.

Seriously, how could you hate it? I'm genuinely curious.

At the same time, I acknowledge this could just open a can of worms and give voice to contrarian shitlords from /tv/ who only come here to shitpost

Another fine product from Mandalmotors my friend.

Jesus, that's boner-inducing. I can't even imagine how much of the ship's internal space is dedicated to the power plant, cooling, wiring, and electronics for all those guns.
>>
>>50734219
And then you need room for the actual gunners!
>>

Jesus christ, I count 24 quad laser turrets, what looks like some kind of spinal mount, so probably a big ol' turbolaser, and four smaller turbolasers or ion cannons in the nose. And that's assuming it has nothing to cover the aft arc.
>>

20 quads, four turbos or ions on the chin, one turbo or ion up top, Then probably other stuff on the back, It's like a miniature lancer though the extra wings seem like they'd block the guns.
