Depends on what you're facing. Against tougher targets I'd run x2 15-man squads, one with Lord, one with Warpsmith, and x2 8man squads. I'd pair it with a Warpack of x4 Maulerfiends and a Helbrute but not everyone likes Dinobots so maybe it's just me.

It's a subtype, same a tank. Here on page 590 of the Warhammer 40k rulebook from the Mega drive and I quote

Type
The different types of vehicle are: Chariot, Fast, Flyer, heavy, Hover, Open-topped, Skimmer, Tank, Transport, Walker, Super-Heavy Vehicle, Super-heavy Walker, and Super-heavy Flyer. These types can be combined to define, for example, a Fast Skimmer or an Open-topped Walker, in which case, the Vehicle has all the rules for all of it's types.

ALL of them Including VEHICLE. Walker is a classification of Vehicle, but that doesn't make it not a Vehicle.

The Macharius Vulcan is a fun unit. Usually erases 1 thing per turn, and can glance up to 13 AV. Which isn't that likely, but possible. makes it a bit more versatile. Overall, it's just fun to role a shitload of dice.

ID only matters against multi-wound, for regular models a power axe will suffice. Melta Bombs are armorbane which kills vehicles faster than fists.

For regular suits, maybe. But there's no real issue keeping them at T4/2W. Shit works and they're not particularly broken, just good.

It's the MC suits that cause problems. They have jet packs, several weapon systems, can't be shaken or stunned, triple-layered saving throws, and when you do THAT you can't even disable a weapon or knock out their mobility. Like, whoever looked at those rules and thought they wouldn't warp the army were clearly out of their minds.

Oh well. Mechanized/combined arms tau are funky. I like playing against them when they show up. Shame about the robot retards.

Paying for Flakk is a trap. If you want to actually kill flyers bring a Heldrake. The Vehicle damage table makes the AC's 2 S7 AP4 shots much better than 1 S8 AP3 shot since neither can roll "explodes" and so they both need to strip hull points. Frag is mostly irrelevant. You may fire it on occasion, but it's not a reason to take the weapon.

No the Cyclopia Cabal is itself a DETACHMENT. A stand alone set of troops you can include in you army. The CAD is a type of detachment too, but this isn't like earlier editions of 40k where everything has to be shoved into the same type of force organization chart.

So, I ran a CSM list today against a friend, making first use of the new Traitor Legions book. Decided to run Thousand Sons with the Grand Coven detachment. Used a War Cabal formation and singular helbrute for the cheapest Auxillary. I think I broke something with the INV saves, as the 4(!) Sorcerers had a permanent 2++ rerollable save, and the Rubricae/Scarab Occult had a 3++ rerollable.

Every model has an INV save of 4+ or more base (Aura of Dark Glory for Scarab/Rubricae or Sigil of Corruption purchased for the Sorcerers). Detachment bonus for Thousand Sons grants +1 INV when affected by a blessing, while War Cabal's formation bonus rerolls failed saves. Mark of Tzeentch grants another +1 INV, meaning that every Rubricae/Scarab is on a 4++, and every Sorcerer is on a 3++, which when affected by a blessing goes to a 3++ and 2++ respectively, and those are rerollable. Then, every single psyker (each unit has at least 1), has Force, which is a blessing that targets the entire unit, even if it does nothing for most, on WC 1. That last part is the flimsiest bit, but I ran the 4 Sorcerers in a unit of just themselves, letting them all be affected by 1 Force. The rest of the units may need to be targeted by a different blessing depending on whether or not you're allowed Force to affect models without Force weapons, even if a model in the same unit has one.

With 21 Mastery Levels (read: Warp Charges), every Psyker can get off his Force, and you reroll Perils. The four-man bullshit simulator that are those Sorcerers have force axes and Inferno Bolt pistols, giving them 3 WS 5 STR 5 AP 2 Instant Death attacks, while running a 2++ rerollable save. Which is scary enough til you realize they are all Mastery 3, meaning they have silly amounts of powers/charges for a single unit, all preferably rolled on the Tzeentch Table for maximum DOOMBOLT.
I kept this whole list below 1850 points, and the DeathBall was only ~500pts.

I'd like to hear opinions on my Thousand Son list. my intent was fluff, with viability in casual games.

My strategy was having each Sorcs from the WarCabal join a Rubric unit, taking their powers from the Change tree and generating personal warp charges with Siphon Magic before firing whatever whichfires are in range. The ScarabOccultTermie Sorc is chancing at Sinistrum for WarpFate(1) for re-rolling all failed saves, but I'll take Armour of hatred(3), as it is a blessing that effects in a 12" bubble to get the +1 invul and Adamantium Will. If not, another witchfire is fine. To be joined by the Ml3 Sorc from the TzaangorWarherd for the (Jump Infantry) relic. Depending on the ScarabSorcs powers will be trying the same thing psychic-wise.

The WarCoven rolling powers on Telepathy as their Cult for 3+ harness. Taking Psychic Scream(primaris) instead of Dominate(1) and Hallucination(6). Invisibility to be cast on Rubrics if able to, Shrouding for Tzaangors and Spawn in the vicinity. Each Sorc to join a Tzaangor unit. Johnny Tsunamy to be warpboarding solo, gun-and-go, Athanaean Scrolls to not be DENIED THE DICE ARE DOWN, BUT THE WARP IS UP

Finally Tzaangors that can Run and Charge, with 6 units of single Chaos Spawn for bodies on the table, that get to reroll saves of 1 feel like good cannon fodder/objective takers

If you're going for a line list that includes an Aegis Line, I'd go with at least 1 Platoon of Guardsmen, Camo Cloak vets so they get +1 to their cover save and some longer range tanks. I understand that when things finally arrive at your door, having a bunch of close range stuff is useful, but that also means they can just wait far away and shoot you too.

Personally I'd ditch the line idea with this current list. I'd drop the Command Squad and Aegis Defense Line for 2 Chimeras for the Vets and it would be a pretty solid fun list. Good to see Bullgryn, I just got myself a box of 3 and I'm excited to build them.

Huh. I'm not sure why, but I didn't even notice the MoT not stacking past 3 (probably cause it only says it in it's first entry, and not in the back of the codex). It is still technically doable, but requires a good Ectomancy roll (which you can only roll with 2 powers).
The wording is kind of strange with MoT, as it stacks up to 3, but can't be stacked upon, I assume? I would assume that temporary takes place after permanent, but I'm still somewhat new to 40k.

all psykers in a Thousand Son detachmanet can choose to instead take the entire Tzeentch tree when generating powers, while the Grand Coven lets psykers cast an ADDITIONAL power in each psychic phase. I thought using such would substantuate Ml1. Though the sorcs do have SpellFamiliars to make casting easier

The short of it is that it improves your save, but stops working if it would improve it to 2++.
Imagine the calculation as factoring in the MoT last. If your save would be improved beyond 3++, the MoT can't apply, since it can only improve the save to a 3++.

Of course there was some retard arguing a few threads back that it meant any model with a MoT could never, ever have a 2++ but fuck him and fuck that noise.

Rules as written, Mark of Tzeentch doesn't count when adding invulnerable saves and modifiers in a way that would increase your invulnerable save to better than 3++. Never been much for General Threads, but I might stick around this one for a while to get a feel of these things. Either way, an army-wide 3++rerollable is what I already had on everything but the Sorcerers, and is most of what I was going for. If anything, this just says that Exalted Sorcerers are where its at. And also that Ectomancy is a best, since it can literally make my dudes invulnerable for the rest of the game with the right roll and is still good with the rest of the rolls.

Instead of AP ignoring armor you instead move to the rend/damage system which reduces your armor save.
Cover increases your save by +1, ignores cover removes the benefit from cover.
Invulnerable saves prevent your save from ever being worse then a set value.

Hey fa/tg/its. Decided to start running World Eaters out of the new Traitor Legions book because the Nurgle force I was going to run would be too full of rape and I like chopping stuff in games with guns. I got a list going, but I've got some hobby questions.

1. Not all that find of the standard World Eaters theme. Do you guys think inverting the colors (brass with red trim) or painting heavy blood spatter over blue/white Legion colors (maybe with brass trim) would look better?

2. I don't like the current Chaos Bike model. If I were to buy Skullcrushers, would the bodies be passable to make a daemonic-looking ATV out of if I made some axles to for them to bike wheels? Maybe flip the bodies and turn the neck stump into a jet or something, mount gun/steering on front.

3. Most of my army will kitbash Raptors and FW Berzerker bits for line squads, but I was thinking my Havocs could be Knights of Blood (in my head I've conflated the renegades and the rogue BA Chapter of the same name). Reasoning being that the World Eaters have the lesser servants of Khorne do some of the work they'd rather not do themselves, like covercamp with Autocannons. Do you think them having WE rules would still be kosher?
