How would you stat something like this? I want to make a Nartaki Gun-Adept with the Spider as his mentor spirit who uses four of them.

You're demoted. I don't want you ever posting the OP again, we clear?

>>50689935
Uh...only burst fire otherwise stat like one of the colt pistols. I'd have to check but they probably have a 1911 clone in there somewhere. As for using four, do you mean two of those monstrosities or literally using four of them? Because if you're actually using four at the same time.....I'm not sure.

>>50689974
Eh, I'll write up a themed one tomorrow and then someone can post it when this one eventually dies.

Any preferred theme? I've been on a fire mage kick recently. The pink mohawk variety.

Well I've never messed with anything that had more than two hands so I have no clue how that would affect the use.

But yeah, as for actual stats? I'd go with the Colt Government 2066 or Browning Ultra-Power and then change their fire mode to burst fire, make it fire only two bullets for the burst, and then balance recoil and defense penalty as you feel appropriate.

So, a ghoul rigger who uses drones to do almost everything in public so he doesn't accidentally infect someone who happens to have a paper cut. Yes or no?
>>
>>50689935
>uses four of them.
Don't. For every extra weapon you use, your dicepool gets split. Use two guns, you split your dicepool in half, meaning you need 18 dice to have 9 dice for each gun. Three guns, you need 27 dice. To competently shoot 4 guns, you'd need 36 dice. I do not know how you would ever get 36 dice, and I do not wish to know either.

A ghoul that's worried about that should get a dermal sheath to keep the infectious blood in, a clean metabolism to minimize sweat, and an internal air tank so they don't have to exhale in public. Reduces the risk of infecting others to practically zero.

It'll default to the human gunslinger.

Our shaman-cum-face would be ideal mannerism-wise, but she's an elf lady so it won't fly. The ork sam is a bit too crude and a bit too cybered up to play the part convincingly (and he'd probably get stuck trying to go in through the chimney). And the technomancer is a teenager, which won't do either.

Well, let's examine that.

Exceptional Attribute (Agility) and the genemod for more Agility for an unaugmented maximum of 8 Agility, and an augmented maximum of 12.

The appropriate quality to start at Pistols 7, plus a Reflex Recorder for 8, and a Specialty for a +10 from the skills side of the equation.

+2 from an implanted Smartlink.

And then +6 from Improved Ability (Pistols), the adept power, because you can't have more than Magic levels in a power, even if the power's theoretical maximum is (Ranks in skills * 1.5 rounded up).

So, out of chargen, that's 30 dice for shooting pistols. After that, in-play, you can spend karma initiating and buying up additional skill ranks to further progress on up to 36, though it would be prohibitively expensive.

The hypothetical maximum, with 13 skill ranks and 20 levels of Improved Ability, is 50 dice, but that would require Magic 20 and a literally-best-ever skill rating.
>>
>>50689935
I'm going to add further dissent. Flechettes are regularly used to represent things like buckshot. That's a flechette pistol. Check the Remington Roomsweeper.
>>
>>50690466
I'd play the shit out of that. Get me some of that Ghoul Reaction, yes please.
>>
>>50692341
Shapeshifters don't get Regeneration anymore in 5e without a GM willing to houserule it back in.

Personally, I like well-played shapeshifters when the player's looking to embrace, rather than ignore, the fact that they're literally an animal, and also don't turn it into a sex thing.

Admittedly, that might not leave a very wide range of overlap.
>>
>>50692469
>Does firing a vehicle mounted gun as a rigger that's jumped into the vehicle count as remote operation?
There's no official ruling on the matter, and the rules as written contradict themselves extensively.

The community consensus is that it does count as Remote Operation, and does use Logic rather than Agility, but this is a consensus by the game's players, not based on some Word of God telling us how it's intended to work.

>>
Wait, Ghouls have the Reduced Senses critter weakness (from Core Rulebook, page 401), not the Blind Negative Quality (Run Faster, page 153). That means they actually can just get cybereyes to restore their vision - they don't have a Quality to buy off. That's a gamechanger for me.
>>
>>50693154
remember that because of regeneration cyber can get rejected. Have to get betaware of higher I think
>>
>>50693154
They finally errata'ed that?
>>
>>50693177
Rejection only happen to augs already present in the body at the moment of transformation. Any cyberware gotten after that suffer no rejection (unless the Infected has the Regeneration power).
>>
>>50693177
>remember that because of regeneration cyber can get rejected. Have to get betaware of higher I think
Ghouls don't start with Regeneration - you can elect not to purchase it.

>>50693184
>They finally errata'ed that?
Nope, it's the actual rules as written.

>Gained Weaknesses: Allergy (Sunlight, Moderate), Dietary Requirement (Metahuman Flesh), Reduced Senses (Blind), –1 Logic, –1 Charisma

That's Reduced Senses from the Critter chapter of Core, not the Blind Quality from elsewhere in the book.
>>
>>50692993
>Shapeshifters don't get Regeneration anymore in 5e without a GM willing to houserule it back in.
Errata'd, mate.
>>
>>50693177
>>50693201
>>50693211
I'm pretty sure that Regeneration isn't even available to Ghouls. They're not one of the Infected types with access to Optional Powers.
>>
>>50693154
>That means they actually can just get cybereyes to restore their vision - they don't have a Quality to buy off.
This has always been the case.
>>
>>50693229
>This has always been the case.
Yes, clearly, it's right there in the rules. It's just that every time I've seen it brought up before, people have said you'd have to buy their blindness off because of Blind Quality-style nerve damage making visually input incompatible, or something.
>>
>>50693249
Commandment number one: Do not trust anything /srg/ says blindly.
>>
>>50692927
You could also be an elf for two extra max points of agility, and take SURGE for metagenetic improvement (Agility) for an aug max of 15.
>>
>>50693347
This was in the context of playing a Nartarki, so I took elf/SURGE off the table.
>>
>>50693249
Normally you would have to buy the quality off since any time a negative quality no longer gives you the negative effect you need to pay the karma cost.
IE: if the street sam goes on a rampage and kills everyone he owes money to to remove his in debt quality, he still needs to pay karma to get rid of it (or take negatives of an equal value)
The issue with ghouls is that Reduced Senses doesn't have a karma value, and doesn't even work the way they use it for ghouls (it just reduces perception dice, not makes you blind) so it's a pretty gray area.
>>
>>50693397
It's not a quality and, unlike the Blind quality, in no way requires you to buy it off to have functional cybereyes. There's no gray area.

You're also wrong about Reduced Senses not working the way they use it for ghouls:
>Typically, reduced senses function at half the normal range or effectiveness, but they might be reduced even further, possibly to the point of the complete loss of that sense.
>possibly to the point of the complete loss of that sense

There's even a critter in the core book with Reduced Senses (Blind) just like ghouls.

So, basically what I'm saying is that Reduced Senses does work that way, it was never a quality, ghouls don't need to buy the non-Quality off, and so your point about how buying off qualities work is irrelevant.
>>
>>50692795
I don't think anyone in my party would be ideal, we have jean-paul the FLQ sniper, an über driver, SS-Untersturmbannfuhrer Baron Von Poopenchest the Schutzschtaffel themed street samurai, and Pepsiman the water (Pepsi) shaman.

Cut off all of his limbs, slap replacements on them with rating 2 armour each and an extra physical box, grab armour, a helmet, a riot shield, bone lacing (if you GM lets it stack) and you've already got 39 soak dice with 11 BOD, 45 if he allows bone lacing to stack. And as a bonus you have 18 physical boxes, grab a pain editor and nothing will ever be able to put you down.

>>50697709
I've seen coworkers destined to rot in the lowest tiers of management wear some pretty swanky threads with no social skills to back them up and still get taken seriously. Sometimes it's not about how well you pulled it off, it's that you had the courtesy to make an attempt when it was appropriate. To someone raised, educated, and who's lived their whole life in a system where these formalities are expected, that might be all it takes to get them on your side.

>>50697336
If you make those limbs used, which as a troll you may want to do to maximise the the customized attributes (otherwise you go over 12 avail.) you can get the armour rating per limb to 3 as all parts in it have to be used and have lower costs/avail.

My only Shadowrun experience is from the Harebrained Schemes games, which I loved.

How different the tabletop mechanics are? Are turn actions are AP-based? Are abilities (Body, quickness etc.) the same? Do we have etiquettes?
>>
>>50699698
The two systems are not the same at all.

Attributes and skills are disconnected, you can have a higher skill than an attribute, they just get combined

AP is not the exact same thing, but it's close. You have initiative passes. Every turn you get as many 'acts' as you have initiative passes. First you go through everyone's first initiative pass, then everyone's second if they have one, and so on until everyone has used up all their initiatve passes.

Imagine if everybody on the field in the vidyagames got 1 action each in turn, and then their AP didn't refresh until all AP on the field was used up. That's a good way to think of it.

The videogames really abstracted and simplified a whole bunch of stuff.
>>
>>50699846
A relatively simple, yet completely satisfying answer. Thanks man. I figured the game is simplified, as it makes you control an entire party instead of a single character

>they just get combined
Like White Wolf's thing?
>>
>>50699911
almost exactly. They use numerals rather than dots, and sometimes you can have other things thrown in, but that's effectively how it works.

WW isn't a bad way to think about shadowrun's system in a pure mechanical/conflict resolution basis, but it's far less formalize.

>>50699911
you also don't have the chance to throw a chunk of d6s the size of your head in any game except shadowrun.
>>
>>50699698
Highly different, it's all about big dice pools vs other dice pools.

Not particularly, but the initiative system is a lot more AP like than something like DND, allowing for fast characters to take more actions per round than slow ones. Each initiative pass subtracts 10 initiative so someone rolling a 25 will get 3 initiative passes in one round while someone rolling an 8 will only go once.

Abilities are relatively similar. I think the Harebrained Schemes games use the attributes or derived attributes more similar to the first 3 editions, but a lot of the attributes are the same or close. There's Body (basically your CON score), Strength, Agility (covers Quickness stuff), Reaction (Rigger stuff and initiative), Intuition (perception, initiative, and a few other things), Logic (hacking, brain stuff), Charisma (talking), and Willpower. Also Edge, the fate point or hero point or whatever equivalent for re-rolls, bonuses, and luck.

The skill "Etiquette" covers a lot of similar situations as the Ettiquetes in the video games do about blending in and getting along socially. You can specialized in it for a +2 dice bonus to Gangs/Corpers/Runners/Etc.

Tailored Pheromones, Commanding Voice, First Impressions, and a high-fashion suit. Those are the ingredients to a character who can treat being a face as a primary, rather than secondary, role. Use it as a starting scenario. Bunch of wannabe runners get a call from their fixer, get tossed together and sent on the exact same mission as a group. Have each individual take care of a different objective. Maybe mix in the classic Food Fight scenario during the trip to set up a hook for the next session. Plus it lets the players get a little experience with combat. If you did mix in Food Fight I'd make it piss easy so they would come to pretty minimal, if any, injury. Just to drive home the point when you wrap up. I'd probably put in a line about how the mooks they "killed" were DocWagon actors or some shit too.

False.
>>
>>50695836
Really depends on how you build them. Its possible to to build decent ones. With the new fading reductions its a little easier.
>>
>>50703879
Wrong.

>HMHVV3: It is most typically spread by scratches or bites from those creatures, or unprotected contact with their bodily fluids.

>HMHVV2: Typically spread by scratch or bite, the virus can also be spread by unprotected contact of Infected bodily fluids and an open wound.
>>
>>50704001
>HMHVV3: It is most typically spread by scratches or bites from those creatures, or unprotected contact with their bodily fluids.
Are you talking about contact with the body fluids? That's talking shit like getting blood/jism into a mucus membrane - like how HIV is spread - not having it just touch your skin.

And it straight up says in the writeup that it's an 'injection' vector. It just splashing on you flatly isn't enough.
>>
>>50704024
>Are you talking about contact with the body fluids?
I wasn't talking about anything. I was directly quoting.

Contrast the difference in wording between 2 & 3.

3 can be passed through unprotected contact. Not just snorting it up your nose or swallowing. Not just unprotected contact with an open wound. Not just unprotected sex. Any unprotected contact with bodily fluids.

HMHVV3 is contagious AF, and has only become more so since the early 2070s.
>>
>>50704271
Your interpretation is nonsense based on a tenuous and intentional misreading of a fluff sentence.

It's Injection Vector, not Contact.

Effort above and beyond merely touching infected blood is required to spread it.
>>
>>50704394
Your dismissal is nonsense, and based on a rigid and inflexible reading of RAW in the face of direct description. Reminds me of the BS arguments that happened around 4e HMHVV.
>>
>>50702589
yes, you can get a color changing skin with a illegal upgrade, a voice modulator to change the tone of your voice, fibre optic hair that changes colour, there's a nano-hive that can change your fingerprints and a upgrade to your cyber-eyes that mimics retinal patterns. You can go full cyber chameleon, although it's worth noting much of this gear thoroughly illegal.
>>
>>50704557

That's not a disguise option, chummer. Fiber optic hair is literally glowing strands of fiber optics, not electro-chromatic color-changing hair.

Yes, just like a computer screen displaying a solid black image. Things can glow and still have a full range of rich colors.

Come on, dude. You're really pushing the 2010s tech angle hard here, and we're talking about 1980+95 years along. What you're throwing around is crude in comparison with the dynamic polarisation of the 2070s, just to pick one example of relevant tech.

>Polarized sunglasses have been around for quite some time, as well as dielectric polarization of glass. Dynamic lenses now have been designed to change the orientation of the polarization.
>What this means is that with theses glasses, you can match the orientation of, say, a one-way mirror and be able to see though it or make visible communication more secure with a constantly changing orientation.
>Nightclubs can now offer exclusive access to city views normally limited due to glitterati activity, or the glasses can help provide secure laser communication between bouncer and clubber.
>Rumors have it that Dante’s is having a few floors renovated to include polarized lighting, making it mostly dark to all but their most valued clientele.
>>
>>50705259
Not exactly. The problem is that we expect all gear items to have a Capacity value, which shows how much capacity they either have or consume. Due to the way we save/load values that might not exist, the capacity node wasn't being saved in the file, which made it null on load. Capacity method doesn't know how to handle null values, so it breaks.

So what I didn't realise is that you actually have multiple commlinks in the character file. Whups. If you want to easyfix it yourself, find the gear nodes that don't have a <capacity> or <capacity /> node and add the <capacity /> in. Looks like it's just commlinks. Otherwise, grab the new nightly and load it.

>>
>>50705699
Gah, that again? I thought we'd fixed that. tl;dr the first weapon in that list is the Defiance Shocker (Melee Contacts) which is a hidden weapon. Since it's hidden, we generally ignore some of the rules that we define for weapons, and it doesn't have a cost. It can't create the weapon without a a cost so it kind of crashes, but not quite because of the way the treenodes work. Anyway, easyfix. I know what the problem will be.

Since you are an adept, we'll also need to know how many PP you have to spend on shit. IIRC, for 4e at least, you can get a temporary boost to your agility or one skill. Alternatively, you could get a permanent boost. Which helped to offset the "no/minimal 'ware" part of using magic.

Quite frankly, the Face's down is all too often spent maintaining his contacts and buying or selling stuff that needs to be obtained or get rid off.

This being said, I'm partial to the 'Face-with-a-smattering-of Sammy' build, i.e. a Face but with a maxxed-out cyberarm, some Initative Boost and crowd control options like flash-bangs or gas grenades. His primary approach is still to sweet-talk the group's way through, but he can hold his own in a fight as well.

The fuck? I'm not saying that color-changing hair is impossible. I'm saying that Fiber Optic Hair is not the item that does it. Fiber Optic Hair is strands of literal fiber optics replacing your hair.

If you want realistic-looking color-changing hair, you want a Smart Wig or the equivalent.

Hair which can be used as a disguise accessory exists - but fiber optic hair isn't that.
>>
I need an opinion from you guys; there are a couple of complaints kicking around at the moment that it's easy to over-spend on skills and such in create mode, because hovering over a number spinner and activating the mousewheel increments it.

My personal view is that it's easy to fix that by just not keeping your mousewheel over the spinners, but is this a problem you guys have run into before, having random skills bump up or down unexpectedly?
>>
>>50708477
It has happened, yes, and I wondered where my NPC's points had gone a couple of times. It is however a rather minor problem. If it is quick and easy to fix, please do; if it isn't, don't bother. We'll survive!
>>
>>50705792
Get a Weapon Focus sword, and have the grip/pommel - something which can be removed from the sword, so that it represents a discrete object of its own - which is an Elemental Weapon Qi Focus. You'll need to be an Adept/Mystic Adept to attune to them, but the result will be a sword that can give you up to a +6 to all attack roles at chargen, and which can burst into flame.

The flame effect doesn't do much, mind you. It doesn't add damage, just change the sword's damage into Fire damage. Fire damage is mostly useful for spirits and critters with a Bane related to fire; when you set someone on fire, they only take damage per Combat Turn, not per Initiative Pass, so it's unlikely to see anyone incapacitated by it before something else takes them out.
>>
>>50707561
Don't get me wrong, the Predators IV and V were great guns. But the Savalette Guardian offers just as much stopping power and accuracy, but with additional burst fire modes.
>>
>>50708477
It's a problem I've run into, yeah. I was trying to scroll up and down the skill menu and had to backtrack like a scrub trying to figure out why I was suddenly in skill point debt.
>>
>>50708426
And I'm saying it's description would not preclude it being used as such, you're getting too hung up on the word fibre optic, it's not going to be like those junk shop fibre-optic lights, each hair is going to be bundle of fibre-optic with an exterior coating which acts basically like a monitor - because that's literally what the description quoted word-for-word by >>50704573, getting it operate as such is not going to require any additional hardware just the right program, much like the skin toner and it's associated chameleon chip. The wig is superior because you can change it's length length and shape more, but I see no reason not to get the hair if you're going that route in case you are caught without the wig.
I defy you to name this other hair disguise piece of ware that's been mooted, because I sure as hell can't think what it is.
>>
>>50708972
Chummer. Fiber optics don't just change color. They glow. Something which re-pigments itself is one thing, but a fiber optic literally works by shooting glowing light through a strand of glass.

I don't think you understand what a fiber optic is, or how it works, or anything like that.

Because what you're suggesting is what Electro-Chromatic materials in Shadowrun are. That's what a Smart Wig is made of.

That's decidedly not what the Fiber Optic Hair cyberware is. The Fiber Optic Hair cyberware is hair replaced with glowing (or deactivated, and therefore transparent) fiber optics.

If you want to houserule in some Electro-Chromatic Hair with the same stats as Fiber Optic Hair, feel free. It'd definitely fill a niche. But that's not what Fiber Optic Hair is in Shadowrun - it's cheap, cosmetic stuff, that glows like fiber optic strands or an LED screen, and has no function or role in any but the strangest of disguises.

Get all supplements from pastebin. Start with Core, Chrome Flesh, Run Faster, Run & Gun, Street Grimoire. Add Data Trails if the decker wants to deck, use errata from the forums if you have a technomancer.
>>
Is it just my group, or does decking always take up a lot of IRL time compared to everyone else's activities? Between his decking, whoremongering and cokeblowing our decker is getting the majority of the limelight every game, to the point that the face thinks it's no longer worth walking through the cold and snow for 45 minutes to play anymore.
>>
>>50709745
Decking has never been anything but terrible in any game where I've seen it featured, because it's well and truly a solo event, where everyone else may as well just fucking leave and get some food while it's resolved.

Even in 5e, I've seen it take 20+ minutes just for the decker to grab a camera feed or open a door.

I've started investing in lockpicking and hardware on my street samurai just so that I can use a single roll to circumvent cameras or open locks, without having to go through deck configuration, and mark accumulation, and blah blah blah...

And half the time that an alarm is tripped, it's the fucking decker failing a roll against a Host, IC being deployed, and the whole place going into high alert.

It's not the solo dungeons of previous editions, but it may as well be.

Depends on what kind of That Guy.

Get the Hayek Sheets from the pastebin and the Matrix action flowchart. Learn them and push ahead quickly. Tell him to make a choice and roll, and keep cutting back to the rest of the party.

5e has realtime hacking (more or less), so the opening is there to keep going forward with the rest of the group and make him shit or get off the pot.
>>
>>50709745
>>50709814
>>50710535
It shouldn't take any longer than anybody else's turn, unless you or the Decker are ignoring rules or just haven't read them.

Most matrix actions are Complex, meaning you can only do one of them per turn, barring programs, which afaik just let you apply the hits rolled to multiple targets.
If you're doing that and turns are still taking too long, because the Decker needs to make up his mind what he's going to hack, or something, do as >>50710591 suggests; tell them to shit, or get off the pot. Just like you would with a Street Sam who spends 5 minutes looking at the map, trying to decide who to shoot.
>>
>>50710637
As the first guy who asked about deckers, the problem I've noticed isn't them taking up time in combat, but the "solo dungeon" problem mentioned earlier where the decker is doing stuff out of combat and since we can't do anything to help him we have to just sit there and wait. It's cool that he's doing his decker stuff for us and all, but we can't help but feel impatient while we wait for our opportunity to go in guns blazing.
>>
What system should I run for a Cowboy Bebop style campaign with space bounty hunting?
Shadowrun?
>>
>>50710637
Well, it does, because unlike the street samurai, the decker's doing shit like spending free actions to completely reconfigure their deck and change what software is running, contending with marks, and all sorts of other obnoxious bullshit.

On top of which, all of that fucking nonsense that the decker's dealing with, NONE of the other party members are participating with. At least when the street samurai is doing his thing, the rigger's commanding his drones, the mage is tossing out stunbolts, and all of that other good stuff. When the decker's trying to hack open the door or loop the security cameras, though, everyone's just crouched in a corner picking their noses and making sure the decker's body doesn't get found while they wait for obstacles to moving forward to be lifted.

It's as bad as if there were Astral segments that everyone needed to wait for the mage to do before the story could progress, where they had to spend turn after turn fucking with 'spirit tokens' and constantly changing their spell loadout and astral attributes before you could continue through a mission.

It's just bad. Maybe 5e is the least-bad that it's ever been, but it's still just shit, and it takes time and attention away from the run as a whole.

>>
So a real long time 4e DM/player here, going to try out 5e, what can I expect for differences?
>>
>>50711049
There are three main changes from 4e to 5e - a whole bevy of minor quirks, but only three big things.

First, the matrix has been completely reworked. You're going to need to relearn hacking from the ground up.

Second, there are Limits now. Whether it's your Social Limit, your weapon's Accuracy, or your car's Handling, these Limits serve as the maximum number of hits you can get on a roll. These are normally high enough to be inconsequential or low enough to be crippling, with no real middle ground by and large.

And third, character creation no longer runs off of BPs, it uses a Priority system. Take the time to acquaint yourself with it and make a few test characters to make sure you understand how it works.

Aside from that, it's just minor things.
>>
>>50711090
Is it still possible to do Karma gen? I never liked the concepts of priority character creation.

Thanks though!

>>50690109

>>
>>50711122
Absolutely. There are three other character creation systems but one is just a different flavor of priority (sum to 10) and another is largely abandoned and was never quite workable (Life Paths)
>>
>>50711122
Yeah, there's an optional rule for karmagen, but unlike BP gen you'll still have to deal with scaling karma costs.

It lends itself towards building generalists, and punishes trying to build specialists. Worthwhile, if you prefer the former over the latter.
>>
>>50711174
Hm.. Shame, I wanted the kind of karma gen that 4e's runner's companion added. I just noticed that the stats will be fucking expensive as fuck to buy. I was thinking like 300-350 karma but with a human with just 3 in everything (except edge) costs 360 karma. Hm, maybe around 475 then.. I want a mid power game giving the players a lot time to grow their characters.
>>
>>50711209
I'd go with priority gen in your shoes - it lets you make a specialist, but with lots of holes to grow and expand the character horizontally away from their specialty.

Shadowrun, as ever, makes improving what you're already good at prohibitively expensive, compared to improving what you're not good at yet. That's the intended growth path of the karma and nuyen system as it stands.
>>
>>50710803
>>50710781
>>50710742
What system could have easy space combat?
>>
>>50708744

>>
>>50711415
>Wouldn't that just make it so dealing damage with the pommel will deal fire damage?
No. A Qi Focus grants you, personally, that adept power as long as it's on your person. And the Elemental Weapon Adept Power causes a held Weapon Focus to get wreathed in the element in question.

You could have a belt buckle of Elemental Weapon and use it on your sword, for example - the form the Qi Focus takes doesn't matter, in this case.

>>
>>50711802
btw I'm trying to adapt the shadowrun rules to make a medieval setting so that my friends and I never have to play D&D again.

It's a "low magic" setting where everyone is an adept and the only way to cast spells or do any of the other flashy magic stuff is through the Adept Spell power.

I don't know what to do with the relationship between essence and magic since the whole cybernetics-eat-your-soul aspect of the game won't matter anymore. What do you guys think?

...no. It's still the same universe as ever, and nothing has ever been printed against that fact. It's just that they're not allowed to include explicit references in the current editions because, despite sharing the same setting, Earthdawn isn't being licenses to CGL.

It's still part of the setting, but focusing on those details in official material would currently be a copyright infringement, so 4e and 5e have turned their attention away from the Fourth World for the time being.

Maybe. IIRC the fluff for dragons states their very being is inherently magical which is why they weren't around in the 5th age. I don't believe there's been anything concrete to support that, but it's certainly a pet theory of myself and someone else I know, that Technomancy is just a different form on magic and that AI's are really just free spirits of the matrix. Which would make an opening for a dragon equivalent, but I don't know that it would be just a dragon with resonance, maybe more some sort of giant mech?

It's like you didn't even read what I wrote, and yes I know what fibre-optic is, it's a glass or plastic (in this case probably plastic filament) designed to conduct light to a point, my point was it couldn't work as described without said electro-Chromatic coating, it's basically turning your hair into a monitor. And even if I accept that it can't do a more normal clour (which I don't again fits with the definition every colour imaginable) So what?, change the pattern up and instantly you're less recognizable, they're 100 Nuyen/cm fashionwear, they're likely to be relatively commonplace so yould could fade into a crowd. And I'll note that you still haven't produced this mythical piece of cyber/bioware that is supposed to be the stealth equivalent.

Looking through the archives, it seems this 'Cinnamon' was never actually in a real game. I strongly implore that, if you do not update the pastebin, at least remind people that this is a build that isn't genuinely character-ready due to having an unsustainable lifestyle cost. I can't believe that between all the posters, not one person - ONE! - picked up on this.

Well no, because we hold that the matrix is it's own form of astral plane, so basically magic anf resonance can't interact because they're moving through two different mediums "traditional" magic through the astral plane and "techno" magic through the Matrix plane, they're moving at right angles to one another. When I say a different form of magic I don't just mean a different tradition, I mean there's a fundamental difference in the in universe mechanics of how in works.

then they're not REALLY the same thing are they?

They're not two flavors of astral, they're two separate mechanisms entirely. It's like comparing EM Radiation with beta, gamma, and alpha particles. They function on entirely different premises. Yes, they interact to make our universe, but the two are completely and functionally separate from one another, even if they behave in marginally similar manners (IE: EM and various forms of radioactive decay promoted by the nuclear weak force both have particles spinning out into the ether causing effects, usually transfers of energy, but EM radiation is largely sub-atomic and sub-nuclear particles like electrons and photons, while alpha, beta, and gamma are all really heavy particles that are still rocketing through the spatial dimensions but way heavier and more dangerous and cause very different effects).

The way you compared resonance and magic made it sound more like thermal versus x-ray radiation. Two ends of a spectrum of frequencies, but I think that's a very dangerous idea to get into if we're speaking in a pure fluff sense.

Yes, and I'm about to walk the dog. Since we're already on 6 I figure this thread will be dead by the time I get back. So might as well make the new one right now.

>It's like comparing EM Radiation with beta, gamma, and alpha particles.
alpha and beta I give to you
but you DO know that gamma radiation is EM waves, just with a VERY short wavelength, right?

Well they are obviously separated in a way, the point is more that technomancers aren't just able to be explained by science, maybe it would be more precise to say that they're both supernatural in nature. The analogy I was thinking of has them as the two faces of a coin, in a fundamental way they're the same, the details may be different but the broad strokes are the same. But they can't really interact because they run parallel to one another and their only contact is the edge, the real world in this analogy.

also: >EM radiation is largely sub-atomic and sub-nuclear particles like electrons and photons,
>electrons
chummer, beta radiation is electrons
and photons are NOT particles

2/10 see me after class

Sent ;)

I'll use the character I rolled up and waiting for runnerhub approval. Couple of guys from the session I sat in on helped me make it.

Quoted both of them, chummer.

>Chummer. Fiber optics don't just change color. They glow. Something which re-pigments itself is one thing, but a fiber optic literally works by shooting glowing light through a strand of glass.
Great. And dynamic polarisation can alter the directions from which that glow is visible, and the spectrum it's visible in.

Entirely unrelated to electrochromatic mods.

So they're still the same setting, but any effort to connect them directly will be stringently avoided. Which is effectively the same as saying they're not the same setting, but Shadowrun has an ersatz Earthdawn to replace the lost past.

The difference is personal emphasis.
