One of the ravens contributed and Fulgrim comissioned a "pale spear" for nefarious purposes. We talked about relics, but it devolved into shitposting. All and more in the old thread >>50670891, but don't bother.

>>50686899
The SoH used the DG as an anvil while they were a teleporting spearhead
The IWs can use be tha anvil while the WEs are their chainaxe, their forward element.

I wonder who were the RG's anvil to their alternate-deployment furious hammer, especially after the Gate 42 since Corax swore he'd never serve alongside the SoHs and IWs again.
Even though that's bullshit, they're both Fellow Warriors, but you get the idea. Maybe the Wolves?

Salamanders and Iron Hands post Massacre. Might have been more Meduson tactics though. Some loyalist IW later on, but by then it was more blend them into squads and fight the RG way.

In the books RG and Wolves dont have a good relationship. A Watch Pack was sent to Deliverance but fell to the Wulfen and the 2nd Gen Raptors murder-I MEAN FOUND THE WATCH PACK MYSTERIOUSLY DEAD.
>>
>>50687089
>Watch packs
Nobody ever likes them, anon, but it was Russ who broke the fight between Corax and Perturabo.
I wonder about those early-mid Crusade ages, where the Exemplary battles are set. I like them the most.
>>
>>50687077
Well you did get dubs, and doesn't Corax save Russ at the Wolf Cull or something?
>>
>>50687044
Legions are not singular entities. The Raven Guard used whatever contrasting forces they were operating alongside, whether that be Imperial Fists, Death Guard, Salamanders, or heavy armor Imperial Militia.
>>
>>50687137
What even happened to the Watch Pack sent to meet up with Lion?
>>
>>50687159
Not sure, but as >>50687137 pointed out Russ was the one to break up birb's fight with Pert. Pretty uncharacteristic of him.
>>
>>50687302
Actually, now that I think of it from a philosophical aspect, I can see native Raven Guard and Death Guard getting along. Both broke free from tyrannical overlords on their home world and I can certainly see some Raven Guard leaning more towards the "strength through endurance" belief. Or Death Guard taking up the, "Never in chains again" belief.

In one of the horus heresy books (I can't remember which, it's the one where angron gets himself buried under a load of rubble while the warhound titan does a decent job of murdering lorgar until angron pulls a diglet and fucks its shit up) a warhound is described as having a series of chin mounted bolters, though I can't remember if they were normal or heavy.

I think that's practical and would look cool, so I want to - for purely modelling purposes - put some underneath the cockpit on mine. My question is what type of bolter and how many do you think would be right.

The few remaining Salamanders is likely. Iron Hands are less likely, as they were still bitter and lumped some of the blame of Ferrus' death on the Raven Guard and Salamanders (even though Vulkan went missing and Corax barely escaped).
>>
So Haar, The Riven Hound can be taken in any loyalist army but he doesn't have rules about treating him as an ally and I dont see anything in the base 30k rules about different LA rules counting as different 'factions'. So am I correct in thinking he can embark in transports from the detachment he's in? Unlike Knight Errants that count as Agents of the Emperor.
>>
All this shattered legions talk gets me thinking:

Do I want to start a shattered legions army using Meduson, Jurr, and Maun for maximum 'Pretty models" or wait til Feb and start 1ksons?

>>
>>50687401
Thats sounds like Pale Nomads Modus Operandi
>>
>>50687574
Depends. You can do pretty much anything with an SL army, but IIRC aren't they "your opponent must agree", and you might get sick of them for their relative lack of uniformity. Plus don't they have rules where you can only embark models onto a vehicle of the legion they're from?

But with one legion you'll be tempted to paint models of other legions, without having any use for them, or if you do play multiple legions, that exponentially increases the budget and work you have to put in for a fraction of the completeness that you get from having just one legion for all your dudes.
>>

>>50687159
Yup, corax saved him, then decided to an hero in battle along with the mutant raptors. Then he decided it was a stupid idea and left.

>>50687658
Yeah, the RG operated mostly alone for the rest of the heresy, their tactics went full guerilla and on a smaller scale.

They also took in loyalist from other legions to join their cause. There's a neat story about a RG and a NL operating operationally together

The people I play against are for rule of cool. If anything I think it would be a fun army to paint and collect. Plus its not like im going to us RG apoths to infiltrate graviton gun support squads everywhere. I'm a "My dudes story" kind of player.

>you might get sick of them for their relative lack of uniformity.
Nah I love Ad Hoc formations. My current RG is themed as one big one.

>Plus don't they have rules where you can only embark models onto a vehicle of the legion they're from?
I think they do, but in a roundabout way. They treat each other as allies, and in 30k you cant embark in allied transports no matter what. Which, especially in SL, is stupid.

>But with one legion you'll be tempted to paint models of other legions, without having any use for them, or if you do play multiple legions, that exponentially increases the budget and work you have to put in for a fraction of the completeness that you get from having just one legion for all your dudes.

My RG are complete minus a Thunderhawk that I'm going to kit-bash to 'top off' the collection. 10k points of beakies is plenty ha.

I love the pyroclast and IH models/upgrades so I want to collect them. SL gives me that avenue.

But I can see a 1kson army in my head and it's really pretty.

>>
>>50687785
Oh, so you're well-established then!
I thought you were coming from the perspective of starting a main force.

I'd say go for the 1KS definitely. You sound driven for it and attracted by the concept more definitely than by the shattered legions, which you'd be able to make on an ad-hoc basis depending on whichever other legion's units you wanted to make at any given moment.

Plus you might be able to incorporate the 1KS into your shattered legion in future. [spoiler/]Knowledge is power, fater all.

Videopict reconstruction of post incident [REDACTED] regarding the whereabouts of Watch Pack #[Null entry]:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9py90Ve4g0
[The Lion]: Now, let's go over it again, just so we got it straight: no Watch Pack ever came.
[Zahariel]: Nope. Just a lot of guns. And bits, little bits. Chainaxes.
[The Lion]: What happened to the Jarl?
[Nemiel]: Well, we lost him when a flaming Stormbird come down on him...
*Cypher hits him with his parasol*
[Nemiel]: Uh, missing.
[The Lion]: Thaaat's right. And the Wolf Priest?
[Zahariel]: Nervous breakdown. You could say he went all to pieces.
[Nemiel]: In fact, you could say he was transmogrified and then busted into a zillion...*ahem* he's missing too.
[The Lion]: What about champion?
[Corswain]: Went down with the ship.
*Luther starts burying himself in suspicious scrolls*
[Zahariel]: Oh Emperor, give me strenght.
[The Lion]: I'm going to miss that boy. At least he's in a better place now.

Hey, you're right too. Turns out the Ravens went from wolf to wolf.
>>
>>50687841

To be fair, the entire siege plan hinged on combined arms warfare with the World Eaters at the vanguard. Once most of the traitors decided to party somewhere else, the siege devolved into a shit-flinging contest where Big E is busy applying super glue to the Webway, Horus is counting the days until Guilliman arrives to rape him in the ass with the angriest mob of Smurfs the multiverse has ever seen, and Dorn is just smoking cuban cigars on the palace walls and occasionally taking a golden piss all over dead IW bodies from 50 stories high.

Have an unbuilt venerable boxnaught lying around.

What's a good use of it, feeling free to factor in options that aren't contained in the box (ie: Forge World weapon arms)? And if you think magnetisation is worth it, do you have a link to a guide for the method you prefer? There's so many and it's hard to tell what are quick-and-easy methods versus the maximum-utility methods.

Aesthetically I'm interested in the Plasma Cannon, but I'm open to any tactical usage with any loadout.

pic related is the original WD source material to educate you about your palace walls, your terran fortress monastery, all of dorn's former claims about siegecraft and your asses getting rekt during the siege of terra by Perturabo and the Iron Warriors legion (a.k.a.: superior 2u), compiled and highlighted for even you to understand. Oh anon, don't you know that BL will probably have plans written up to retcon that by now?

But, joking aside, one of the core moments of the siege in Sanguinius holding the Eternity Gate, which is really deep in the palace (being the door to the throne room and all). For the traitors to get that deep, they must have got past the walls.

>>50691780
Do you want a legion that's into engineering? Iron Warriors/Imperial Fists and Iron Hands would be the classic choices, for civil and mechanical engineering respectively. Salamanders could also be a possibility if you consider metallurgy to be engineering. But I'd say the Hands are the most engineer-y of the legions overall.

Arvida is rad as well. I read rebirth which is his introductory story on Prospero and I was just disappointed he was kind of against the legion instead of sad. It's a FW scheme that uses paints from other brands and takes more technical know-how, in no way it fits the kinda videos WHTv makes.

Nigga what?
Your average second hand FW model will go for about 80% retail price. More if it's painted to any extent, even more if you're buying the bits separately.

>...recasters stupid enough to try to pass their crap off as the genuine article...
I'm sorry m8, but it's the other way around, they're not stupid if they're getting you to buy it. Don't blame a seller for preying on stupid people.

And as for the recast industry, I don't really give a fuck. If it's there it's because somebody would rather pay less for a tiny toy than the arguably extortionate prices FW charges. Recasts exist because there's a market for them, and that market is morally OK with fakes and lower quality at the expense of better prices.

How useful are Vindicators in 30k?

The 2/3 shots seem seriously dangerous, but is it worth it? Additionally, are there any good anti-armor options? All the Armored Ceramite makes Melta iffy at best, so is it wise to bank on Kheres Assault Cannons and Volkite to down vehicles?

Plain Jane demolisher cannon vindicators are solid as fuck tanks who don't give a fuck.

Laser vindicators are kinda meh but boy are they cheap for what they do. Ordnance really does help lascannons kill stuff better desu.

Sicaran venator does the big laser dick better though but it costs nearly two vindicators.

Meltas are iffy but cannons still work just fine as do medusas and artillery

Hello again, /hhg/. It's the soon-to-be IH player still trying to make a tacticool list. I've come to a list I'm really liking and (sorry to keep bothering) have a couple questions. What I've got:

Crusade FOC 1
>Legion Centurion
>Techmarine Coven w/ 2 Techmarines
>Terminator Squad w/ Land Raider Phobos, Armored Ceramite
>Support Squad w/ Artificer Armor, Rhino
>Support Squad w/ Artificer Armor, Rhino
>Sicarian Battle Tank
>Sicarian Battle Tank

Crusade FOC 2
>Legion Centurion
>2 Contemptor-Cortus Dreadnoughts w/ Assault Cannons
>Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannons
>Tactical Squad w/ Arfiticer Armor
>Tactical Squad w/ Artificer Armor
>Leviathan Dreadnought w/ Storm Cannon, Armored Ceramite
>Vindicator
>Vindicator

So that's 2,500 exact, and I've got a couple questions.

1. Should I drop the Techmarines and make the Centurions Forge Lords?
2. Should I drop the Artificer Armor to get Armored Ceramite elsewhere? If so, should it be the Vindicators or the Sicarians?
3. Am I missing anything? Any major threats to the playstyle I'm going for?
4. Is the fluff good? I like all the models, and I think it works with the fluff, but is that lacking in any regard?

Thanks anons

The FW methods aren't the deepest lore, in some ways they're simpler and faster to get decent results from than traditional GW methods. Yes, some of them call for an airbrush, but even without you could probably manage the IH scheme. It's just base silver, apply tamiya smoke (it even comes in spray cans), do patches in transparent purple and green, then apply another layer of tamiya smoke. No fiddly highlights or multiple layers for a smooth result.

>>50694939

>there's a market for stolen goods, therefore stealing is ok

FW's prices support the development, sculpting, and fluff-writing. I'd reckon that more people are employed by the company in those areas than in casting, and when you buy a recast you're essentially deciding that their labour is worthless. Intellectual property has value for a reason, don't try to act as if buying knock offs is moral.

It's sometimes implied that anything outside of using GW paints in the traditional and basic way is somehow an expert technique beyond the abilities of mere mortals. In actual fact, sponge chipping is easy, oil washes and filters are very forgiving, weathering pigments are pretty straightforward to use, and companies other than GW make some excellent products.

There's a reason recasts exist, just look at how economically fucked up other countries are (yes, poor people also get the right to have fun). It's our job as hobby enthusiasts to keep the game alive, which means no buying recasts, no buying stuff 50% off from shady eBay stores and most of all, ensuring our money actually goes to support the company we care about.

Caring about buying original shit but not willing to buy it at full price it's just lame and equally hurtful to the hobby.

Russ decided he needed to police all his brothers for potential treachery, so sent a pack of space wolves to each and every primarch to watch over them. If the primarch turned bad, this single squad of space marines were to execute the primarch. Yes, really.

However, the watch pack would be his eyes and ears and fangs :333 to he'd at least be warned about a certain Primarch being secretly evil. Foolish as it mey be, it's better than sorcery, if you ask me ;^)

I never read BL, so me finding him cool because he has a good work ethic and principals might be a bit shallow.

Speaking of Cybernetica being BS, I'm making my first Admech lists and I'm having trouble finding something I enjoy that isn't considered OP. I want to do awesome melee robots supported by artillery surrounded by clouds of fearless chaff, but apparently that's the worst of both worlds. Cybernetica is apparently unfun because MC spam, understandable, and Reductor is likewise because apparently Phosphex artillery is really damn good in this? Is there any way a kind of the two along with a bunch of Adsecularis can be done without being a cheesy bastard?

That is too my reason for liking him. Based he was, for he cared for nothing else other than the Crusade, and being stronk.
He was the Primarch equivalent of Humanity Fuck yeah. I'd say he was tied with Dorn for who believed the most in the Crusade.

I like the idea they approached a smiliar goal via different roads.

One caring for perfection for iots own sake and artsy stuff while using this drive to excell at being warriors and their missions.

The Iron Hands, purpose oriented did the same thing, differently. I guess EC are like that posh guy you play soccer with, who is really good with the ball because he has a huge ego but still scores well and you have fun playing with him.
>>
>>50696483
By the Titan Guard, do you mean the 40k Secutarii Peltasts and Hoplites, or do they actually have an army list that doesn't require me to buy a Titan?

>>50696472

Ok, might do that with a Reductor allied detachment so I can get at least a couple boomtanks, since I do really like artillery. Maybe people would be less irritated if I made them Basilisks or something?
Original plan was two or three Adsecularis blobs, with a couple groups of roaming Thallax shooting tanks and slapping meltabombs on them, with a back line of a Magos, a couple Auxilia healing and buffing some artillery, plus melee robots like Vorax and Arlatax, and a plane or two. Just seems really cinematic and cool to play.

>>50696523

Hmm. Maybe, although that then makes them LD7and so I would essentially have to spam 35pt fodder to mitigate "my 80pt unit just got swept by two tactical marines on a good day"thing. I think I'll do that against shooty armies, but if I'm fighting World Eaters I am going to leave them Fearless since they can probably chew through them from what I've read of their rules.

So I read about the Drach-daemon thing.

The thing kills breaks titans like they were children's toys, killed scores of custodes and SoS (the best humanity has to offer) like they were nothing, mass possessed machines and human, and it was too powerful for the Emperor to destroy. It was only imprisoned through a desperate gambit.

What's scary about the daemon is that its origins are not unique. Every race in the galaxy would have their own version of it.

So this got me wondering. What can the other races of the galaxy do to handle a daemon on that level? The Eldar, Tau, Orks, Necrons, etc. Do they have the ability to face such a daemon or are they fucked?
>>
>>50696867
It's a shitty sword now. Not much to worry about.
>>
>>50696555
Because both Legions primarchs got along well with each other, bro'd it out in their brief moments of free time, made each other friendship weapons, and while their tactics on the field contrasted each other considerably, both sought perfection in warfare (one by physical means, the other by mechanical means).

The Emperor's Children were the closest thing the Iron Hands had to real camaraderie for an army that focused on the strength and precision of machines.
>>
>>50696867
I would think a daemon born of murder cannot be murdered, and violence will only make it stronger. Seal the thing in a can.
>The daemon kills SoS
Whaaat? I thought blanks were invisible to daemons, whom hunt using soulsight.
>>
>>50696867

Eldar could trivially imprison daemons way back in their glory days, craftworlders could probably do the same with much, much more effort

Necrons wrote the book (cube) on imprisoning daemons

Tau are just fucked

Orks would love the good fight
>>
>>50696867
>The Eldar, Tau, Orks, Necrons, etc. Do they have the ability to face such a daemon or are they fucked?
Declare it non-canon, same as we do.
>>
>>50696895
It will break out at some point. Each time Abaddon, gets desperate and draws on the power of the sword, there is a chance the daemon would overpower Abaddon's will and take over and then escape.

And even if it doesn't escape, there has to be hundreds of daemon like it. Imagine what a daemon born from the first Eldar murder would be like.

Too bad the IW and TS were in a similar position yet they're Distrusted allies or something, even if they both serve the Warmaster.

>>

>Whaaat? I thought blanks were invisible to daemons, whom hunt using soulsight.

They are. The daemons swing or shoot at the dark spots in their daemon vision. You know the page in the daemonifuge where the Slaaneshi daemon could see everybody in the room but where Sister Stern stood there was just a empty shadow? It's like that.

You could proxy a Spartan with a cardboard box for one night but I wouldn't consider it a permanent option

Spartans have a pretty different footprint than a land raider and considering they cost nearly as much as a lighter LoW, $135 really isn't that bad of a price tag for a legit one.
>>
>>50697107

Is running two forbidden? I think I will get two different tonks instead of the Mastodon since /hhg/ convinced me its shit. Might still buy and paint one, but still...

>>
>>50697078
>>50697204

True, but I don't actually have an Imperial Knight yet. Going to get one for Christmas as well as around 1000pts of Mechanicum.

I think I'll probably start with Reductor, since thinking your way around two artillery tanks, some tarpits and maybe 3 mobile combat units can't be too difficult. I could def. pick up some Myrmidons, maybe 10 of each Secutarii, and a Hellblade and run a combined Titanicus/Autokrator force of armoured units and shock troops backed by a bit of artillery and maybe a Lightning fighter. That would be equally hella fun and possibly not cheesy?
>>
>>50697245
>Hellblade

I was thinking about cool things to use for planes and was considering one earlier, since I personally think the Lightning looks like shit.
>>
>>50697241
3k is the planned scale. I really like the Mastodons anti air gun and com net though... on the other hand, I get more anti tank fire power on the field with two spartans.
>>
>>50697333

Two Spartans at 3k is pretty neat but keep in mind the best Spartan is the DT kind since you'll probably want all the HS slots you can get.

Mastodons sadly are kinda easy to kill for how much they cost and two Spartans are far and above more difficult to kill for less points.
>>
>>50696786

In general? No contest, it's Sevatar. In Savage Weapons? Probably Corswain, but he shuts up pretty quickly once Sevatar gives Captain Alajos a nasty case of spear-to-the-face and he sees a partially-conscious Lion screaming atrocities as he gets dragged off the battlefield to stop him embarrassing himself and the Legion further.

Lion is the worst Primarch, hands down.

I don't play Overwatch and have little knowledge on it. All I know is that Tracer's butt is popular.

I was going to comment the same points, but I decided against giving it unwarranted attention.
Congratulations, you are as baited as Corax.
>>
>>50699027
Why ? He already has a rule that allows him to use his powersword and thunderhammer at the same time and gain a bonus attack from it.

He gains no bonus attacks.
>>50699027
This isn't that edition where characters could buy stuff. They're as is.
>>50699079
He should have Eternal Warrior. We know he lives longer than Horus and eventually kills Siggy.
>>
>>50699076

DOEs he actually get the bonus +1A? If so it's totally redundant, yeah.
>>
>>50699079
Abbadon gets replaced by Dynat. And nobody knows about it
>>
>>50699110

Where does it say that special characters can't buy options they qualify for?

I'm legit asking, this is a confusing topic
>>
>>50698966
>My aim is to have Cassian as the sole HQ, but somehow have valid melee options with a few Sally units.
Well, then you wouldn't be able to use RoWs. However, Dracos does gain a Warlord trait if the previous Warlord dies. Not like getting him killed is a good thing, though.
>>
>>50699129
Nowhere. Intentional or not certain characters can buy their legion specific wargear.
>>
>>50699110
Even if the may wield them at the same time doesn't convince you, attacking with a normal close combat weapon still gains a bonus attack from also having a specialist weapon. It is when fighting with the specialist weapon that you don't get the bonus attack unless you have another.
Worst case you get a free powersword attack on Dynat

Eh, you're right I guess. I usually make the mistake of thinking of Thunder Hammers like Two-Handed weapons.
Someone wearing a power sword and something two handed would still get the extra attack on the one-handed weapon?

Yup, again, the restriction only applies when you attack with the two-handed weapon itself, but it still counts as a second melee weapon when you're using something mundane to stab with.

>he gains no extra attacks

Dynat chooses to wield his power sword, he gains +1A from having a second CCW, he chooses to split his attacks between his hammer and sword, he must have at least 1 attack be from his power sword and 1 be from his hammer.

Thus he can attack 3 times with his hammer and 1 time with his sword, or any other combination.

Also he is a character with Legion a astartes (Alpha Legion) and thus qualifies to buy a power dagger for 5 points if he chooses to. There's no rule that says SCs can't buy equipment that they are legally allowed to otherwise, they just typically don't have the option to do so

>>
>>50698529
I’d only bother taking Cassian Dracos as your sole HQ if you’re taking a max-dreadnought army. You don’t need a RoW because the all-dread one’s downside is way too harsh. Just take the two 10-man tax squads and then load up on Cortuses for assault, boxnoughts with graviton guns, contemptors for general duty, and a leviathan or two.

>>50698309
Tac squads are killy because of Fury of the Legion.
