Did he activate the Ugin before you cast Command? Because he would've had priority when Ugin resolved. Still a sick play.

>>

Nah, it was in response to it entering the battlefield and walkers activate at sorcery speed.
>>
>>50655371

That's not a thing

You can't respond to something "entering the battlefield" unless a triggered ability is put on the stack when that thing enters the battlefield

Otherwise it works like this:

>thing resolves
>active player gets priority
>nothing on stack so they can cast sorceries or activate pw abilities etc

>>50655371
I don't mean to come off as a rules lawyer or anything, but for future reference: You can't respond to something entering the battlefield. When Ugin resolves, his controller gets priority first. Since nothing's on the stack and it's a main phase (presumably), he can plus or minus Ugin. Only once he activates Ugin and passes priority can you cast Command in response.
>>
>>50655323
He's pretty alright early game if I get him. I haven't really gotten the opportunity to try much else out with him. I'm thinking of replacing him with Archetype of Imagination to combo off of Leviathan and because my friend keeps winning off of me with Wonder in his graveyard.
>>
>>50655409
Oh shit, yeah you're right. I just looked into it.

Welp. That's a bummer. Still love the card.

To be fair, he probably would have reacted the same way if I did it to his doubling season. Guy was a cock.
>>
>>50655432
Nope, you're right. Knowing the rules isn't rules lawyering. My bad guys!

Makes me sad, though. I loved that story.

Now that I think about it, folks at the table probably knew, they just hated that guy, and since he was so adamant about arguing about the graveyard thing, they kept quiet.
>>
>>50655451
Archetype is good. If graveyard stuff is a problem you may want to put in a Relic or something because you have literally nothing to stop a grave-based axis of play.
>>
>>50655529
Fair point. I think Ooze is the only graveyard solution I have

>>50655860
Emrakul is hard because you're restricted to colorless stuff, which tends to drive up the price. Mono-wastes manabase should hurt less than the standard suite of utility lands. Other than that just use a bunch of mana rocks and Mind's Eye effects. Also check out edhrec if you haven't.

You guys wanna hear the best story about breaking rules in commander?

There was this guy that played competitive edh at all the local tourneys. He played Derevi and combo'd off all the time with the deck. This was back when Partial Paris was the mulligan rule for edh.

Once the mulligan rule got switched to Vancouver mulligan he literally quit edh and made a new "format" where the only difference was 30 life, partial paris mulligan, and the same card pool as modern.

All because he couldn't partial Paris and perfectly sculpt his hand to combo off turn 2.

Of course, it's exactly like that in EDH as well, but Bazingaman said to set aside the hand and take a new before shuffling just to save time, since it's 100 card singleton and shuffling takes longer than in 60-card formats. Besides, the keep hands are less frequent, depending on what do you want in your hand.

First time someone played this against me, they said "pick a number", so I picked a number (300 billion or something), THEN they cast the spell.

How does that interact with Marchesa's last ability, assuming that the Hell's Thunder has a +1/+1 counter on it?
>>
>>50658844
Hell's Thunder attacks and gets a dethrone counter. Beginning of end step, sacrifice trigger is put on stack and resolves. Marchesa's ability gets put on stack and resolves. On the beginning of the next turn's end step, the second part of Marchesa's ability is put on stack. It resolves, and Hell's Thunder comes back. On the beginning of the next turn's end step, Hell's Thunder's ability is put on stack. It resolves, and Hell's Thunder is sacrificed. If it had a counter on it when that happens, the cycle repeats. If it doesn't, it dies for good.

Why would you do 5 color instead of just 4 color with Ydris? Its mana base is less complicated and Ydris can actually lead to cool shit like cascading Eldrazi into Eldrazi and synergizes with Annihilator as you want extra attack phases anyway.

Displacer isn't worth the white splash, especially when most of the good Eldrazi abilities are Cast triggers anyway.

So I'm going to take the leap into EDH after a few months of borrowing decks and learning the basics.

Since this format seems to be about fun cards and building cool themed decks I was thinking about building a deck themed around Eldrazi tribal, I play standard and had a ball with them during BfZ and am intrigued by the older Zendikar ones as well.

I want to try to make the deck about ramping into the Eldrazi Titans and then beating face.

What generals should I look into? Colorless with a titan as a general is something I'm not interested in really, I'm more interested in playing Eldrazi that make Spawn and Scions that help me drop the beaters, or ways to cheat them in without the deck being all about mana rocks and artifacts.

The best one is apparently Animar, but we already have three Animar decks in my local scene so I want to consider a different option. What are other interesting generals that help synergize with the eldrazi?

Jin-jan augur man!

The biggest issue colorless eldrazi has is running out of gas. Jin basically Plays like a titan himself, while refilling you on rocks and beaters. Basically colorless ramp, but play at least 20 islands, and a few blue spells. (I only run 2) Run every titan in 99 (apart from old emrakul obv) and full up on the rest of the good annihilators.

Alternatively, play rakdos, lord of riots or animar. Rasputin dreamweaver works too I heard. Surrak dragonclaw.

Good luck man!

>The best one is apparently Animar, but we already have three Animar decks in my local scene so I want to consider a different option.

Rakdos, Lord of Riots is basically the 75% version of Animar if your interested, It wins through flooding the board with Eldrazi Titans on one turn along with dumping everyone's hands, leaving you set to swing for the win, or through dealing 14 + damage and using Cloudstone Curio and 2 Eldrazi to with destroy all permanents your opponents have, exile their fields, exile their libraries, or deal infinite damage.

Its a bit of a gimmick and has clear weaknesses, but that's why its a 75% deck even when fully optimized.

If you want to play the spawn into big bomb annihilators deck Yidris is a possible consideration.

You get access to a bunch of the good spawn and scion makers.

You want to attack more often with the Annihilator triggers so you want more attack phases, something Yidris wants as well.

You want to cast high CMC spells, which works with Ydris perfectly.

When Yidris connects you can cascade Eldrazi into other Eldrazi which trigger's their cast effects.

The mana base can be tricky but the outcome could be something fun.

I know exactly how you feel, I got back in about a year ago and was just as confused. This is the EDH/Commander thread, which is a specific casual format of MtG.

>Constructed (60 card decks, max 4 of each card, sideboard of 15)
Vintage: almost everything ever printed is allowed
Legacy: like Vintage but with a slightly stricter banlist
Modern: almost everything with the new card frames since around 2003 is allowed
Standard: only cards from the latest sets that are 1-2 years old, cycles out oldest sets for new ones once a year
>Limited (40 card decks, no maximum duplicates, deck built from booster packs each session)
Sealed: buy 6 boosters, build a deck out of the cards, play against others that have done the same
Draft: buy 3 boosters, sit down in a circle with others, open a booster, draft one card from it, pass it to the person next to you, draft one card from his booster, rinse and repeat, build a deck out of the cards, play against those you drafted with
>Casual (many variations)
Commander: 100 card decks, singleton (max one of each card except basic lands), one legendary creature is your commander that is always available to play out from a special command zone, deckbuilding restricted to using the colors of the commander, usually played in free-for-all multiplayer instead of 1v1

There's a ton of etb/ltb creatures in those colors, staples for Marchesa probably are:

Baleful Strix, the titan cycle, the primordial cycle and Flayer of the Hatebound.

Things with persist work well with her also, unfortunately Flayer of the Hatebound is the only undying with a good etb.

Also keep in mind threaten effects become permanent steals if you have a sac outlet.

Ok, so, obviously there are the Mirrodin swords. Cost 3, equip for 2, slew of strong abilities and a P/T buff. If I'm understanding you, though, you want something that's cheap to cast, cheap to equip, provides an economical boost, and is easy on the wallet.

Bonesplitter is hard to beat for pure value
Trusty Machete is good, too
Shuko is nearly free
Grafted Wargear has a drawback, but is a strong buff
Sword of the Animist is decent, and ramps for you. It's kind of better as a ramping tool than an equipment, though.
>>
>>50661239

You got the gist of it.

Grafted Wargear looks pretty great, as does Trusty Machete, and Sword of the Animist would make for some nice ramp indeed.

Other equipment I was considering were Loxodon Warhammer, and Behemoth Sledge.

No, when you control several permanents that create replacement effects for a single thing, you decide which one to apply. They don't stack in a way triggers do and so on.
Same reason why Possessed Portal works really well with Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar but Tomorrow also has nonbo with Omen Machine, since that doesn't create a replacement effect. I'm getting sidetracked.
But anyway, Void Maw is golden, since it's a symmetric effect and you can kill a player with it just by looping Priest of Gix with sedris and a sac outlet.

>>50662387

Idk but I just built Kynaios and tiro enchantress that is similar, it's group hug, I give everybody lots of cards and mana, but they are drawing etb creatures and I'm drawing torpor orb, they're drawing artifacts and I'm drawing stony silence, they're drawing targeted removal and I'm drawing greater Auramancy and sterling grove, etc

Yesterday I played a game where I won using stasis + Frozen aether, I had Kynaios and Tiro in play + Cloudstone curio as well so I was able to bounce these two islands back and forth, constantly paying for stasis while also being able to build up untapped lands, while my opponents were drawing dead

They scooped before I actually played the stuff the ensures I win (abundance stops me from decking myself), but they knew it was in the deck so they just scooped to stasis + frozen aether

I think the Kami of the crescent moon version is just more stax (winter orbs and such) and counterspells
>>
>>50661510
This is correct. Keep in mind that it's quite high risk and you need somewhat set up with right lands. If someone removes Worldgorger Dragon at right time (with ETB trigger on stack), you're probably gonna lose the game.

So, to start, what is "turbostasis"m

"Turbo Stasis was a popular deck in the "Black Summer" of 1996 where it played particularly well against Necropotence decks. Its strategy revolves around locking the game with Stasis, and counterspells. The effects of Stasis are mitigated by Howling Mine, which helps the player draw Islands, and also by removing Stasis from play just long enough to allow the player to untap their own cards. Despotic Scepter, Boomerang, and Recall let the player move it into and out of play as needed. It wins either by decking the opponent, accelerated by Howling Mine and protected against by Feldon's Cane, or by Black Vise damage.

In commander, this translates by giving each player around 4 to 5 cards a turn, while locking down the table with winter orb, static orb, meekstone, etc. You want to buy enough time to find your combo pieces (lab man + leveler, mind over matter + temple bell/otherworld atlas). Some people use artifacts that damage each turn = cards in hand and the like, but I try to avoid wins by damage. Another wincon is darksteel reactor. Another common win is opponents scooping out of boredom or a sense of hopelessness/deprivation of interaction. Think using the card stasis with frozen aether on field, while drawing 3-4 cards per turn. You will always hit your land drop to keep stasis online

What else do you need to know? I can post staples if you wish.
>>
>>50663069

In my Sedris deck, buried alive is a 2 card combo with Sedris

I grab some combination of palinchron, corpse connoisseur, archaeomancer, rune scarred demon, or deadeye navigator

If ghostly flicker is in my hand or gy, I unearth palinchron, then unearth archaeomance

A lot of the time if I have ghostly flicker I don't even need buried alive, I unearth a corpse connoisseur for palinchron, unearth palinchron, ghostly flicker them both for more mana and fetch archaeomancer, unearth aracheomancer getting back ghostly flicker, then I have infinite mana + entomb all my creatures so I can just unearth my whole deck

I appreciate it guys!

My biggest advice, having owned this deck for a long time, is to take ADVANTAGE of the time you are making to think of the best plays you can make with the shitload of cards you have in hand. You have the advantage of time, think of it like slow motion in fps games you know, really think about the path to victory, the best targets for removal.

Secondly, run either despotic scepter or claws of gix. I CAN'T stress this enough. You'll run into scenarios, ESPECIALLY with enemy planeswalkers,in which they are benefiting more off the stasis effects than you are. You'll need to use the scepter or the claws to terminate the stasis enabler,or use bounce removal like boomerang (or alternatively, use clever impersonator to copy and benefit too !) To regain control of the situation.

Remember, if all of your opponents scoop, you win ~

>>50664165
Honestly, I'm going to try running it to see how it goes. I haven't played much of kami since I've built endrek or circu, so I haven't been able to try padeem yet. Definately worth a shot though, as a hefty, hefty percentage of the deck are artifacts. The deck Also has many enchantments, keep in mind

Bargaining's usually easier nowadays, since everyone can just agree to use whatever pricing (TCG Mid, TCG Medium, Starcity, whatever) and look it up, whereas before you'd be going off of price memory or month-old issues of Scry.

The rough part isn't the bargaining, it's when there's like a 50 dollar price difference and they just keep begging me to find other stuff and there isn't anything I want.

Or the fact that they pretty much 'require' raw mana funneled into them to function, so reanimating a hydra corpse is useless (kinda like using Reanimate on most ACTUAL Hydras)

Looking into how to win with Mizzix before I really start buying into cards.

Does work like I think it does?
>Reality Spasm for X
>Reiterate with buyback
>Reiterate resolves, puts new Reality Spasm on stack
>New Reality Spasm for X+1 to gain experience counter
>Reiterate with buyback
>Reiterate resolves and puts a copy of one of the Spasms on the stack
>New reality spasm for X+1 to gain experience and ad nauseum
>eventually blast Fall of the Titans for surge cost for stupid amounts of damage.

I hate that card so much. Just because of the art too. Chandra being able to burn 2 eldrazi titans to death is some of the biggest bullshit WotC has ever pulled.

Yeah it's a pretty awful scene. Flavor text doesn't help it either but the card is tutorable with Firemind's Foresight allowing me to grab it, reality spasm, and reiterate.

Really wish something like Banefire or Burn from Within were instant

There's a reason channel is banned in just about every format.

Alright, tell me if this is doomed to fail before I even begin:

I recently made a Zo-Zu punishments deck but found it underwhelming, especially because my other mono-red deck (Daretti) just works much better. I was considering the possibility of Rakdos, probably Mogis, maybe Vial Smasher.

Now, Rakdos is a very Timmy color, and I already have a super-Timmy deck in Xenagos. But I was thinking: Black/Red rogues/specters/fast weenies with a discard theme. Go fast and force discard, then use stuff like Megrim, Liliana's Caress, Waste Not, Viseling, Rackling, etc to cause pain upon card loss.

I guess it isn't quite as potent as Nekusar. But I've tried Nekusar and it was too slow for my liking. I guess I'm thinking more like Krenko fast tokens + Larceny effects.

I mean mono G has Polukranos and he's decent, especially if you can give him deathtouch brfore he becomes monsterous.
