Thank you, anon. i'll make a part 2 for my build soon.

If I can make one teeny, tiny suggestion, maybe you could expand wereboy to make you a permatrap for more points

your choice though, it's your cyoa

It's not, actually. I (the person you're replying to) am not the author.

I was also disappointed to see that the wereboy option gives you a downgraded package.

After pirating Photoshop out of curiosity, I finally made some OC for the first time. Unsurprisingly Photoshop is a bitch to use if you don't know how it works. The text editing is really nice though.

I return this week again to remind you about a poll that will take place in January. This year had a lot of good CYOAs (bad ones too, but we won't talk about them), but there can be only one to take the title of the best CYOA of the year 2016. The author of that CYOA will get "Autistic Choice Image 2016 Award" as a reward.

Nominate CYOAs which you think deserve to be on the poll. Unless you don't care. In which case go shitpost or something, I don't know.
>>
>>50630789

Nah, just on a PC. And yeah it's more than just that file, seems to be about 50/50 whether or not something I click on will work but it's always consistent as to whether a specific file 404s or not. Weird.
>>
>>50630838
Fair enough. If you didn't like them I can't really fault you for that.

I think there aren't enough drawbacks with effects opposite to the stuff you can buy, though. Some anon suggested having a drawback with the opposite effect of Safe Mode, for example.

>I don't have a problem.
Nobody cares. The issue was you complaining about other people having a problem.

>It doesn't cost me anything
Again, nobody cares. The issue arose when you told other people it didn't cost them anything.

>You can hold beliefs without infringing on others.
Not when your belief is "people have to call me by my chosen pronouns" and you try to force that belief. You getting upset at people not doing so is infringing on their beliefs.
>>
>>50630659
Oh hey EDG I figured out a partial solution to Shapeshifting powers that hopefully don't obviate the first third of your CYOA. Shapeshifting is always one of my favorite choices so having an option here would be neat.

Basically Shapeshifting would be an option in Flourishes I think and it costs some amount of points and maybe gives Allure +1. Then you can pay any number of points into it and that gives you a freeform pool of points to assign as you wish in the future. For example, say you buy Shapeshifting and put 15 points into it. You could change from a Gifted chest Muliebrous woman with two Plush x2 vaginas to a Hard chested Powerful man with a prehensile, pillar x2 cock. Additionally, you can freely use features of any other person you have subsumed with Flesh Union or consumed with Widow's Hunger. You can also change your physical features within any Influences you bought.

Now as-is that's still kind of just better than deciding what you want your appearance to be and keeping with it. But if Shapeshifting costs enough Favor (6-9 in the current version?) and maybe there's other costs like you only get 3 points in your pool for every 4 you spend or something then it could be the sort of thing people choose at a premium.

My one request is that you don't balance Shapeshifting, if you add it in any form, by making it take a long time or be particularly arduous to change. That's a somewhat common drawback and it completely kills it for me.
>>
>>50631113
I aint a part a this shit cause I don't roll with these shitty fetish discussions, but this some bitch ass logic.

Here's the basic of the fucking basic. Check your god damn pants. You find your dick? You got some balls hangin in a sack? You like to fondle 'em? You are a man. I don't care how many dresses you own or how deep you can take your dildos.
>>
>>50631140
It feels like it basically doubles your points to me.
>>
>>50631113
>if they want to live that way
Reminder that you originally argued "guy who wants to trade his new vagina for a penis is totally a girl you guys!!!! How dare you treat him otherwise!!"
>>
Oh never mind it's this productive, useful, and honest discussion.
>>

>>50631139
Tolerance on intolerance does not fall into tolerance

>Nobody cares. The issue was you complaining about other people having a problem.
>Again, nobody cares. The issue arose when you told other people it didn't cost them anything.

No, you responded to me telling me i was wrong. i defended myself.

>Not when your belief is "people have to call me by my chosen pronouns" and you try to force that belief. You getting upset at people not doing so is infringing on their beliefs.
I'm not upset, I'm just saying it costs you nothing to do it, and it shows you're willing to accept their lifestyle choice. I understand you think they're still a man, but you don't need to voice that everywhere and cause upset, just live and let live.

>You find your dick? You got some balls hangin in a sack? You like to fondle 'em? You are a man. I don't care how many dresses you own or how deep you can take your dildos.
I respect your opinion and your belief. that's fine by me, and i sympathize with your argument. that's why if i were your friend, i wouldn't try and force gender politics onto you. therefore, you return this respect by using pronouns to show you respect their opinion. it costs nothing.
>>
>>50631205
Naw, the culling discussion is completely pointless. Even this is better.
>>
>>50631155
How so? It gives you more flexibility which is valuable but the points spent on gaining Shapeshifting could also be spent on something else that gives you stat bumps or some more utility.
>>
>>50631224
Culling discussion was better because it was just part of one side that was completely braindead. This discussion, 100% of the people participating are literal retards.
>>
>>50631150
omg how dare you say that! I'm a girl if I say I'm a girl, and you have to fuck me or you're a transphobe!!!
>>
>>50631218
I use pronouns. I show I care by using the appropriate pronouns. And because the people I associate with don't pretend to be crazy for attention, nobody complains about the ones I use.
>>
>>50631218
>Tolerance on intolerance does not fall into tolerance
Is this a buzzword for "I'm allowed to tell you what you can't believe"?

>I'm not upset
Yet you continue to whine.

>It costs you nothing
I just explained to you, twice, why it does.

>It shows you're willing to accept their lifestyle choice.
If you're willing to abandon your own beliefs.

>You don't nee to voice that.
And yet I have the right to, no matter what you say. Moreover, nobody here cared until you whined. You brought your own butthurt upon yourself.

>>50631246
I'd say the culling discussion was filled with only the braindead, while this one has good points on both sides and while inappropriate to the context of this thread is something that should be thrashed out.
>>
>>50631218
>you return this respect by using pronouns to show you respect their opinion.
I don't respect your decision that you're a woman
>it costs nothing
It also costs nothing for you to stop posting but you keep doing it
>>
>>50631258
Royal Revival seems to have been made in this year, yes. Should also be available in Beri's Google Drive (link the pastebin).
>>
>>50631140
That's basically how I would have built it, but how do you calculate score with such a system? A player can dump enough points into shapeshifting to get a load of genitals with max plush/pillar, and then immediately shift it to flavor options when the game starts. Do they keep the allure points?

If you take xenosubstantial, along with a few options I've already thrown in for the next release, you can create a Shapeshifter PC without me having to consider all these rulings.
>>
>>50631274
Except 1 discussion belongs here and the other doesn't.
>>
>>50631232
'cause if you can switch your female attributes right to male ones you basically get both the bonuses of someone who specced for both, with a small tax.

Say there's still 65 points. Well, you spent 15 on shapeshifting, so you spend 50 making yourself a chick. But you can just flip over to an equally specced man worth 50 points. You have an effective point value of 100 points, in that case.

For your idea to work it either needs to not be 1:1 or cost a lot more.
>>
>>50631300
I already pointed out it's inappropriate, anon, no need to repeat the same thing I said back at me. But the problem is that which one is trash and which one isn't is reverse.
>>

>Yet you continue to whine.
No. You're whining, I for some reason, am responding

>I just explained to you, twice, why it does.
Your opinions aren't changed or affected by it. You only care about shit like this if you're insecure and want to lash out at others for attention.

>If you're willing to abandon your own beliefs.
I'm not abandoning being a meat eater if I make a vegetarian meal for a vegetarian friend, and vice versa. Apply the same concept to pronouns.

>And yet I have the right to, no matter what you say. Moreover, nobody here cared until you whined. You brought your own butthurt upon yourself.
This meme of you's would work if you had any backing. I just asked the author if they could add a feature, they said no and explained why, and i said that's fine, i don't wanna get into gender politics. It was you who responded attacking me.

So you're comparing words to physical violence. Again, wrong site for you.

>Your own opinions aren't changed or affected by it.
Yes, they are. Calling you by wrong pronouns is effectively telling you that you are right and that any opinion otherwise is invalid.

>You're insecure!
No, I think you're a retard.

>Last out at others for attention.
You're lashing out for attention right now.

>>50631294
I would say that their score is re-calculated based on their current form. If they want to put all their points into Plush/Pillar to stack up on Allure then they can do that already. But while they're so alluring then they aren't getting access to other options.

Glad to hear you seem to have some other option for form-changing though! Looking forward to the new version.

No. That's an analogy. i'm saying you're allowed to disrespect others if they disrespect you.

>Yes, they are. Calling you by wrong pronouns is effectively telling you that you are right and that any opinion otherwise is invalid.
Uh, no. that's just how you've spun it. I have a trans friend I call he. I'm skeptical about transsexuals in private, but i know not using their pronouns would make them feel shit, so i use them to show i respect their lifestyle. It doesn't change what I believe.

Both Dusk and Dark City are definitely older than this year. Pokemon Personified is likely more popular in the realm of people who actually bother to read all 37 pages, but I'd certainly rather have Spire in this dumb poll. It's the only one thus far I would vote for.

>recalculating points
Yeah, but I mean at the end of the CYOA, when scoring matters. If they max out on allure points at the beginning, but never actually take that form, are they -really- that alluring? Do they deserve the flavor text that says they're the smexiest being alive, even if they seldom take that form, or do they only get the category that says their default form is "pretty good" even though they're capable of so much more?

Mechanics fighting fluff again. Personally, I wouldn't allow shapeshifting at all, I think it's rather boring, but enough people like it that I'm trying to accomodate them without making the whole "make a magic slut" thing pointless
>>
>>50631353
That's a lot of nominations. I thought everyone would propose one CYOA, but I guess it doesn't matter.

>>50631377
This will just spread the attention of /cyoag/ too thin and too wide for people to care. Plus the idea I have for the poll is complicated as it is, there is no need to make it more difficult for me to handle.
I don't intend to do one huge poll where everyone would just pick their favourite CYOA and completely ignore everything else. I'm going to separate everything into small individual polls where we get to decide the winners of 1v1s all the way to the finals. This way the poll will last longer and we get more drama, too, which is what everyone wants. Is this a fine idea?

To me? It seems like the guy whose argument is "just let it happen" is Epicurus and the guy who who'se against him is Nietzsche. It's the difference between deciding not to care about anything and caring a lot about everything.

>>
>>50631583
There's this guy who hates any challenge in CYOAs because he's such a loser that he can't imagine himself winning in any circumstances. If faced with difficulty, he assumes that the entire world is out to kill him, and will deliberately interpret everything in the worst possible light. For example, when people assumed that Hunters start out with friends in the Culling, he said that the experienced murderrapists (which are the majority, naturally) will band together, but when corrected that everyone starts out independently, this meant that the newbies wouldn't be able to group up with friends or protectors and became more vulnerable to murder-rape. It wasn't just MH, of course, but just about everything for maybe a couple years now, although I'm not that good with time.

I think you actually might want to go with Pupation and Multimetamorphosis (maybe even pick Delicate for the flavor), so you could basically make one or few human children that periodically grow in power (and the care you need to show them during that time could act as a great motivator to only have a few at a time).

Assuming the whole thing doesn't make them too inhuman for your tastes, that is.

Alternatively/additionally/tangentially/(whatever), the "thematic corruption" could have something to do with stereotypes, limiting the usefulness of offspring in ways similar to how those of a sufficiently dedicated and specialized bride might be, except maybe somehow not quite as useful?

I don't really know how that might be different from specialties we've already got, but let's say I added another section, call it "Alleles", why not, as a big grab bag of bonuses and maluses you can apply to offspring. what are the sort of things you would put in it?

Instant change, thin physique. Girl-sized chest, feminine butt, slender thighs. Full-scale size. Being normal is enough here.

Dual-classing sexuality, get the best of everything. Subby and powerful sexuality seem nice. (10)

What Change with Take Two, allowing me to double up on education. Would go for the True Reset, but I have a lot of technical knowledge to lose.

Kat seems fun and nice, and the Weeb Squad seem like a great group of friends. (30/40)

Flawless skin, menstrual cancel, feeling fresh, birth control, and refuse change (70/110) to make me humanly perfect. Social ambivalence seems like a good buffer. (25/135) Hot in the cold is also a nice little bonus. (15/150)

Lust buster and contact corruption let me be a super seducer. (30/170)

Boob vigilante will let me give guys big dicks. (30/200)

>>50630686
Wereboy seems like a boon, not a penalty. (15/185)

I want you seems pretty natural. (15/170)

Mixed signals 2 is a reasonable thing. (20/150).
I would go for unreal fertility, if not for the incompatibility with birth control. I took that one for the STD effects, but I'm fine with anal only since I like that anyway.

Both forms of commando are fine since I don't have heat/cold issues. (40/110)

Sharing field seems nice. Since that leaves me with an uneven amount at the end of the section, I'll also take a paddling. (20/90)

Meal ticket is OP since it's not just the meal it lets you redo, but assuming you eat (and thus are digesting a meal) regularly, it lets you get out of just about anything as long as you do the do-over within a couple hours. (20/110)

Safe mode to avoid needing to do loads of kegels for the same effect. (10/120)

Purse of holding seems really useful and the ring of light seems like it might be better than useful. (60/180)

Perfect disguise and servant orb seem really handy for shenanigans. (35/225)

Now I'm way over the points limit again so uh
>>
>>50630673
Does winning lottery numbers for the next 20 years count as technical knowledge? ;)
>>
>>50632869
dat ass and dat rack, it's fine to show those things off. (20/205)

Vocal limiters are fine, I can still say things of substance. (10/195)

Erotic mirror is basically exhibitionism and will keep me on edge a lot since I've combined the Dat pair with commando, but it also goes well with I Want You. (10/185)
So does Helpless, actually. (15/170)

And since I'll be turned on all the time anyway, mixed signals 2 and 3 are basically the same so I might as well upgrade.

I wound up sluttier than intended...

A lot of the design space is already taken up elsewhere. General stuff like body plan (flying, quadrupeds, humanoid) is good though, and roles (combat, infiltrator, magical communicant, drudge slave). Maybe tack on some special abilities like elemental affinity, poison, shape shifting, soul-sucking, that kind of thing. I think there was a mind control CYOA which had some ideas to crib from though.

Hey EDG! I saw the talk about shapes-shifting and have a question. I was already imagining some minor physical changes as I move through my Purity and Fallen cycles. But I think they all fall within the features I bought with points. Is that alright?

Like I already have Gifted chest. So when I go from Pure to Fallen, can my boobs go from like Kat Dennings tier to Christina Hendricks? We're talking like 2 cup sizes. And I have Lubrication and Lactation. Can those increase a bit in Fallen cycle? I was also thinking maybe eye and hair color change.

>>50633139

But I have Synergism, so I'm infertile. I give birth to whatever's in the eggs I incubate. My inner magic improves them, but I don't think it makes those kinds of changes. I don't want to be forced to spend points to make spider spawn when it's a spider-Goddess' eggs to begin with. And I don't want to lose the ability or have to spend more than I already do to improve them. Now if Chaq lays the eggs and another Bride or somebody fertilizes them, or vice-versa then what hatches might be more than just spider spawn, but that still doesn't have a lot to do with me. I'm still just making general improvements with incubation.

I didn't think of that. It could just overwrite the body plan and roles bit, but enhancements and special abilities are still relevant. So you make spider-spawn without paying extra points, but if you choose to, you can spend points to make super spiderspawn.

You don't need to worry about those. If I do make such a system, I'll have to re-do my personal build, and I'll adjust the budget I give to players to compensate. And that's assuming I use favor. I'll probably have to implement a system where I convert pedigree to spendable points.

>Synergism
If you keep taking that option, you won't even have to worry about it!

>Shapeshifting Questions
I don't see that scenario as going against any rules. Since you take Pseudodevascent to be a fallen angel, and your definition of fallen angel includes the possibility for such changes, then even if you're bending the rules a little they're designed to be flexible enough to allow such a thing. Go nuts!

Wow. Well, Angela and I need to stick together. Only sane terrans in the big, bad universe. We've got priorities.
1: Get home.
2: Keep our good friends Rez and Zoss hidden from anyone hunting them.
3: Acquire enough tech, info, and wealth along the way to make it a comfortable trip
4: Support our crewmates in any way we can.
I've seen enough Farscape to know where this is going. And if we happen to make a name for ourselves as Galactic Badasses, that'll be a nice perk. So will getting back to Earth with a comprehensive encyclopedia of alien races and technology, our travelogues, and whatever wealth and loot we can get along the way. The U.S. Military would castrate Justin Bieber as part of a superbowl half-time show for ten minutes of access to those two combat drones. If we're the go-betweens that open Earth up to galactic exposure, we can write our own meal tickets. Rez can get EXCLUSIVE rights to exporting terrain cultural relics. That h=should wet her appetite. Zoss can disappear into the crowds of tourists and security personnel who will flock to Earth. And Xaha will probably love to talk to spiritual leaders and would-be mystics. Hell, might even found a new religion herself if she can teach humans her powers.

>men tend to make more money while doing the same job so being a guy is much more easy-mode
This is a myth. Look up the actual, detailed statistics. Men and women make the same money for the same job, the reason you think there's a gap is because you're looking at AGGREGATES, and most women work less intensive jobs.

However, the statistics also say more women are in college and are doing better in school now. You can also look at the social element, where men are being demonized just for being men and where companies are being forced or heavily incentivized to hire more women, which is innately at the cost of men.

I won't even bother replying to the other shit, but here's a simplified version of my views on gender:
Men are physically superior and generally have it better in society, while women are aesthetically superior, which is good enough for me to want to be a girl, especially if you somehow magic away the periods, they seem pretty shitty.

I don't need to fantasize about being a guy, because I am one. People need to fantasize about being girls because they aren't.

Also because CYOAs that turn you into a girl often give you shit like magic or letting you process information quicker as incentives. They also do "Here now you don't have to worry about X so you can just enjoy being a girl" a lot, so it helps ease people into the fantasy by dealing with their issues before they arise. America. And Sweden is probably the single most feminist country, so I don't expect them to talk about how biased they are in the land they have absolute control over.

Surprised a Swede posting here isn't aware of how shit on he is for his penis, though. Most of the ones you see outside of their echo chamber are pissed at what their nation has become.

Hardly anyone is taking companions and those that do only take 1. Was that something you intended or did you want people to take lots of friends?
>>
>>50633414
It's a trap. If you talk about biology, that's sexual maleness not masculinity. If you talk about gender psychology, that's a social construct or a stereotype.

Don't get baited into it; anon isn't worth it. If that dumbfuck can't figure out what's worthwhile or positive about around half of humanity, that's their problem.

False. See the three points made in the post with the hack in question.

Doesn't really matter much for me in any case, because 0.9.2 is my go-to version. Sure, I _could_ try the meta option for the shared school and get someone else with the notebook power to do the transformation on me, but eh, I prefer keeping my builds contained (i.e. not interacting with other builds).

>>
>>50634250
Yeah, that's why I let it drop. People seem pretty desperate to make it into a thing, though.
>>
>>50634250
Here's the thing. Even if you think men are innately better or whatever, society clearly doesn't reflect that anymore. People don't care if they're stronger when they don't need that strength, or anything like that if society itself treats them like garbage for their gender.
>>
>>50634313
It's not going to matter what people say to you on that topic. That kind of sense of worth has to come from inside.
>>
>>50634322

Hi. The people arguing that being a man is great? They included SJWs, feminists, and a few women who wanted to be men. The people saying being a man sucks? Were all men.

You are making a mistake in assuming that the second side is saying men are innately inferior. They think being a man sucks because of our society, not because of men. You are essentially on the wrong side for your opinion that masculinity is good.

If people wanna break those rules, that's fine as they might have more fun.

Look at cheats in GTA. The game doesn't have cheats auto enabled, but you can enable them. but most don't as it's funner without them. Same applies to cyoas.

My plan is to freeload through life. I'll rely on hand-outs and generosity, mostly from men trying to be chivalrous/get into my pants. I'll go from relationship to relationship until I find a guy I really like who also happens to be filthy rich.
I'll sometimes fill the role of a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Spreading whimsy and joie-de-vivre on everyone, particularly my boyfriends. My main drives will be to feel loved and safe. To that end I'll make myself into a very agreeable housewife that most rich men would feel blessed to have in their life. I won't coast only on my looks, but also focus on making people happy. My main flaws: flightiness and taking advantage of a constant circle of suitors. Poor friendzoned schmucks.

Anyway, since I have to go, I'll tell you that I don't think whores should all be forced to live in terrible conditions or whatever, but I think society should strongly discourage prostitution. It doesn't do well for a society to treat themselves like a commodity and as someone who is fairly in favor of a nuclear family it completely destroys them to live in a society where prostitution is okay.

>>50635045
The best way to handle it is for prostitution to be illegal, but to focus more on combating the societal problems that lead to (most of) it, rather than on trying to arrest all the prostitutes.

Prostitution has been "okay" or however to consider us to currently consider prostitution ok for longer than the concept of the modern nuclear family has existed.

If you have a problem with people being treated or treating themselves as a commodity, it goes much deeper than a single industry.

As for prostitution being illegal but for this illegality to remain unenforced, this sets a pretty bad precedent and encourages malcontent on both sides of the issue.

By the by, I noted an interesting possibility for the dying shogun quest.

Obtain some more of the panacea plant from Mt. Oyama in the oni wife quest, or use some you have leftover, and make a treatment for the shogun that gives him enough time to declare a successor (and, I like to imagine, execute some of the worst schemers vying for his position) before peacefully passing on in the following days.

>What do people find engaging about a CYOA?
I like options in what I can do and complementary companions.
In your adventures in the orient I liked the races and classes and how they interacted. It's like in regular pen and paper RPGs, what I like the most is creating my character and see how it works out with the group.
Then, obviously, the adventure and what comes out of it!
>>
>>50635416
There isn't a silver bullet, you just don't have much that is distinctive or compelling in your CYOAs.

Maybe you are censoring yourself too much. Just make what you want, and maybe people will like it. But make sure you like it.
>>
>>50635051
>>50630686
Oh I forgot to take Flowery Fate! I came pretty close to formulating it by accident too. Let me spell it out now. The real reason behind my build is that I'm lonely and just want to be loved.

Voilà! Sweet perfect romance. Really useful to make people fall for me even harder.

>>50635274

>>
>>50635416
>What do people find engaging about a CYOA?

Not him, but for me personally, CYOAs tend to be the most engaging based on what I feel like I'm missing in my own life. Times have been kinda tough for me, so I'm less into adventure right now and more into happy comfy stuff, but when my life's been more stable I've wanted more adventure. It's a kind of escapism that fills a hole that reality might not provide the means to do. Even really simple one page CYOAs have kept me up imagining them actually being real for longer than multi-page ones, because they suit my current needs/desires better.

I'd say just keep doing your thing, you've got people that enjoy your stuff because it scratches their particular itch. You can't please everyone, so if you want to change anything, change things in a way that please yourself.
>>
>>50635489
>you just don't have much that is distinctive or compelling in your CYOAs.

I'd say this is pretty important. The best CYOA (in my opinion) are the ones that make think about the world they're set on. A bog standard adventure in tolkein fantasy doesn't even merit opening the image.

That's not to say its bad or mediocre, but if it doesn't stir my imagination then I won't bother with it.
>>
>>50635416
Adventures in the orient is definitely a step in the right direction. I really liked the hell invasion CYOA, so I guess for me it was mainly just the subject matter. The fantasy stuff was just a little too generic, but your recent stuff has only been getting stronger.

Except for the MOBA one.

As I'm now totally different in my identity and no one knows who I an, I'd first use the money to find a new family and be adopted by them, as I'm now 10 years old.

Me being interested in girly things and being less interested in old things means I quickly become comfortable with my new life.

As a teenage girl I become an emotional, Helpless bimbo who can't talk loud and can't get into roles of power. After probably not doing very well in highschool, I probably move in with my dominant boyfriend who probably finds it fun to bully me. I'd still probably be really embarrassed I like guys and sucking dicks now, But I'm so submissive I'd probably be addicted to doing whatever he said anyway. Hopefully I could tell him I used to be a guy, it'd be pretty hot if he humiliated me for being so pathetic I chose to become a girly girl. After that, I'd marry him and happily spend my life as his perfect, submissive housewife and raise kids with him.

>>
>>50635626
why is this so hot
>>
>>50635416
Going to be honest and give a review why. I am somewhat of a popular author but take that with a grain of salt.

Let's first talk good things.
I like your themes, the graphical style isn't half bad and you seem very consistent at pumping out pages.

The bad.
1. The concept and art is very bland. You seem to use a lot of video game art and lore ideas. This is a huge turn off, because it's hard to not associate a piece of art or a race with an established universe. It kills immersion.
2. The size. It's too large. Try sticking to 4 pages at most, cut out every option that isn't vital to the experience or synergy.
3. The mechanics accompanied by the lore of a cyoa must be unique in order to stand out. The making of a good cyoa starts with an idea.
4. Don't be discouraged. It takes a while to improve and everybody started small. Most big CYOA's (star dust, monster hunter, etc) all had several reworks and updates.
>>
>>50635618
thanks this is easier to understand
>>
>>50635609
I think CYOAs in general are caveated that they can be anime/cartoony styled if you want them to be.
>>
>>50635640
Because this is what all girls wish in their heart of hearts. You're tapping into authentic femininity and your body is responding to that.
>>
>>50635653
Stardust was SDA's first CYOA though, and every fucking revision was playable, interesting, and wildly popular. Not to be a dampener, just keeping it real.
>>
>>50635618
Oh, and there are probably some extras that I missed when I was doing colors. If you see one that isn't salmon, let me know.
>>
>>50635416
>What do people find engaging about a CYOA?
CYOA is life. No that's not a joke. CYOA is about imagining living the life the CYOA describes, all of the implications, complications and comforts therein. When your CYOA is nothing but an RPG character builder it might be fun to make a build once just to play with it but it's not really very engaging in the long run.

Your CYOAs, assuming I'm thinking of the right ones, don't really give us the powers to live or the interesting bits involved in that life. Even your companions tend to be written towards how they help or hinder the quest, more like co-workers than friends.
>>
>>50635686

>>
>>50635624
Why would you? It's still the same planet in the same world.
There's no shapeshifting option, and being an anime girl at all times would attract all kinds of unnecessary attention.
No NEET option either, so you can't hide from the rest of the world right away.
Which leads me to believe it just makes you a normal real-life girl.

And surely those two wouldn't look animoo just because you like Chinese cartoons. Your preference doesn't affect them.

>>
>>50635807
Waifus are nice but that's not the only thing. There are plenty of interesting CYOAs without waifu options at all. The point is that the CYOA gets me interested in the considerations of daily life under its special circumstances.

Usually that means focusing on a setting and what it's like to live in that setting FIRST. The alternative is using "real life" as the setting.
>>
>>50635833
>>50635915

>>50635926
Adventure isn't a combat-only phenomenon. Less "high adventure" as the only paradigm isn't the same thing as less adventure. Adding some options to live a peaceful life (which is particular to the setting) would probably do a lot of good though.
>>
>>50635933
did they make you wear it?

were they a boy or girl?
>>
>>50635830
>>50635933
I'm curious. What constitutes "making you" do something in your minds? I generally don't think to myself that he "makes me" do something unless he's manhandling me or blackmail teasing me or something.
>>
>>50635926
Only if your idea of adventure is a bioware RPG. Like, the most interesting thing I did with Orient was use the earth walls to built forts, and water cataclysms to irrigate fields. Building forts and working on local infrastructure is not necessarily peaceful though, especially if the forts are being used to take over the shogunate. But it's something that you don't design for at all. Think in terms of practical stuff instead of just action scenes, in other words. What are reasonable goals and actions that would involve adventure, not what does an "adventurer" look like.
>>

A good CYOA tells a story. Yours are just a setting (though the one that ripped off 40k/overwatch was a bit more interesting).

In your orient CYOA there was nothing interesting introduced in the races selection. It was just basic data about each race. One breathes in the water. Oni like to drink. There is nothing interesting or original about the races. They're just taken from other things and thrown in as is with a basic explanation.

Same in the backstory choice. It's just incredibly generic and as such boring.. You were a noble or you were a tribeman. There is nothing unique introduced.

Skills were generic out of any fantasy roleplaying game. They're not used to tell background in the setting or anything interesting.

The classes are just generic miko or samurai ones. Literally boilerplate

Liked the skills. Items from any fantasy rpg sourcebook. Boons/Drawback I liked. Very barebones though.

The companions are okay but very light in content. The quests though for the most part seem to be the ones you'd expect in any asian fantasy setting. That's a good or bad thing I guess.

Curse. The best way to kill someone is when they don't have any way to find out you're responsible. It's going to hurt like a motherfucker, but hey, I can always nap it off.

Protect. I can't think of any situation I'll ever be in where I'll need some sort of magic combat superpower more than I'll need a shield that can tank a nuke.

That's mainly what I meant. Also that I feel it's most important to focus on fixing societal problems because while putting them in jail might help the community, it doesn't really get them out of the business.

Really depends on what goes into it. I really doubt anyone would say Royal Revival is too long, and it's 9 pages I think. The way Beri uses the character and gradually progressing background story to link it together probably helps.
>>
>>50636726
>Are RIR supposed to be bad?
No, not at all. They're not known for bad behavior or anything. I just used them as an example because they're big. So I don't find even large chickens scary, as part of my point in the conversation.

>>50636729
Now, can you imagine a little baby raptor poult/chick? It'd be the cutest thing.

Beri is very good at writing likeable characters.

Also I thought her taking us on a breakfast break was super cute.

Considering that I like Traveller and think UW is okay, I obviously have biases here. When it comes to image CYOAs, 10 is my limit, but I can manage up to 15, provided it's actually interesting.

As for text CYOAs like Traveller and UW, the limit is ambigious, but if it's not interesting, I'll know far ahead of time.

>>Can you give an example of a unique fantasy race?
The outside isn't what makes a race unique. It's their culture. When you add nothing to a race besides oh they're Naga then it's just generic. I would have picked races drawn from asian mythology. Santelmo would be an interesting one. http://www.aswangproject.com/santelmo/
Something not just ripped from a d&d asian supplement really.
>What "unique" things would you want, for example?
Every single idea of nobility in our world has had unique and interesting aspects that made them special. Just saying oh you have a noble background does nothing.
>They're your profession, I don't see how being able to hammer steel or knowing what words to say to a noble is meant to tell the background of the setting.
By expanding on how theyre unique to that setting. Also from what it seems your profession is as a warrior. Do you really know how to make a full set of armor and weapons if youre a blacksmith or is it just enough to repair.
>Your input has gave me the idea to add in an endless toilet paper item, thank you.

Mmm, saying there is unique stuff is a great example.
>By expanding on how they're unique to that setting. Also from what it seems your profession is as a warrior. Do you really know how to make a full set of armor and weapons if youre a blacksmith or is it just enough to repair.
How exactly would, "blacksmithing" be unique to a setting? You take a piece of metal, heat it up, and hammer it.

I don't mind your criticisms, but your examples are far too vague to be really helpful.

They're almost unrecognizable to the original legends. Generic toned down to being almost entirely without any substance.
>Mmm, saying there is unique stuff is a great example.
Yeah if you had researched and looked what constituted a noble in different periods in east asian society then it could have been interesting. Instead you just use the most basic western idea of nobility which is oh they have more money lol.
>How exactly would, "blacksmithing" be unique to a setting? You take a piece of metal, heat it up, and hammer it.
What kind of access to materials do they have, what kind of techniques are being used, how skilled is the work. Japan has a lack of iron so they made only swords out of it. China for a while worked mostly in bronze. I mean you can do a lot with such a simple option.
>I was serious, but now I may not be so much.
Maybe you have autism and don't realize how someone who did a real critique that you asked for might be offended when you bring up a toilet paper item.

>They're almost unrecognizable to the original legends. Generic toned down to being almost entirely without any substance.
I suppose.
>Yeah if you had researched and looked what constituted a noble in different periods in east asian society then it could have been interesting. Instead you just use the most basic western idea of nobility which is oh they have more money lol.
But the nobles in Adventures in the Orient don't have more money. Their specific skills are, "Etiquette, Soldiering, Linguist, and Eavesdropping", none of which have to do with money. Merchants are the ones with the more money related skills.
>What kind of access to materials do they have, what kind of techniques are being used, how skilled is the work. Japan has a lack of iron so they made only swords out of it. China for a while worked mostly in bronze. I mean you can do a lot with such a simple option.
The era is steel or iron, as evidenced by the gunpowder, so there would be little use for bronze.

Also I'm fairly certain they made Japanese armour out of iron. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_armour#Construction
>Maybe you have autism and don't realize how someone who did a real critique that you asked for might be offended when you bring up a toilet paper item.

Not him but if you're interested in reading about the subject google Commission on Federal Election Reform 2005 Report. This is an organization backed by Carter and found there were problems. The solution, voter ID, was never taken up so in states that allow no ID to be used like Cali there is a significant chance of voter fraud.
