True, but they do have to be balanced within the game. Do you understand what I mean?

If the question of winning or losing as the TS is did they bring sisters of silence? Then shit will be pretty boring pretty quickly. But that doesnt have to be the question it could be well these psychic powers make this too good and these ones are all bad. What happens if we balance around these one but they get or use the others? Hmmm...

So I fuckin hate FW's Sigismund and want to fix him.

Gonna transplant the praetor's legs on him.

Use some mkII arms combined with some Custode gloves for that old school 30k glove look.

Use Polux's shoulder pads.

Give him a better looking Iron Halo and shave off that stupid head laurel and greenstuff some fuckboi hair on him.

Some chains on his sword arm too ofcourse.

Did a mockup on MS paint.
>>
>>50622032
Can you skyfire with the Lascannons? If you can, then they should be better than the autocannons. The exoshock rules allow a second penetrating hit with ignores cover, so even if they could get a jink save versus the first one, the second will slip through and wreck the bird.

>>
>>50623142
holy shit I didn't even think about that. and yeah the helical array should give it skyfire. next question: atomantic pavaise or missiles worth it for a deredeo? was thinking of the missiles purely based on rule of cool.
>>
>>50623010
Just let them use certain units to give them 1 extra warp charge, like Orks, so for every infantry unit you get an extra dice then counter that by saying if any psyker gets perils then they are removed from play instantly. BAM! Bunch of psychic dice, bunch of choices to make.
>>

>>
>>50623201
Are you using it alone on the backline? Then the bonus few ap3 shots would be cool. Especially if you stay put, because your main weapons would have skydive and cannot shoot ground targets effectively.

Are you gunlining with iron warriors or the like? Then the 4++ plus 6++ to guys nearby might be worth it.

Honestly, you should be using this thing for backfield flier/heavy tank killing. The 4++ will be better suited so you can sit him out in the open and not be LoS blocked by ruins or some shit. And this is 30k. You should have enough ap3 in your army to not need 3 more shots.
>>

awesome response, thanks man. and finally my last question: what are people using as a proxy for the atomantic pavise?because there's a giant gaping hole in the top of the deredeo.
>>
>>50623304
>>50623289
>your main weapons would have skyfire and cannot shoot ground targets effectively.
I thought that only mattered when Intercepting stuff. As in, you Intercept with Skyfire in the enemy's turn because you haven't moved, and if you want to shoot at ground targets the next turn (and obviously didn't intercept so you can actually shoot anything) then you simply move and lose Skyfire (but also Interceptor)
>>

New Night Lords anon here again

I am thinking about buying and cannibalizing a bunch of CSM Raptors for my night lords. I think it will work, but I'd like a second opinion.

Night Raptors get MKIV torso and head, raptor/talon arms/claws, pack, and legs.

Terror squads without Volkite get raptor BP/CCW and torso, MkIII everytning else

Volkite Terror Squads and other Marines get MkIII everything

I was also thinking about giving the raptors MkIII heads, and maybe putting the talon heads on the terror squad.

Would this work? I think it would give me some spooky NL
>>
Can someone post a MkIV marine next to a MkVII marine? I want to know the size differences in the kneepads for painting some decals on, like company markings.
>>
>>50623341
"If the Deredeo chooses to neither move nor Run in its turn it may, if its controlling player wishes, gain the Skyfire and Interceptor special rules for that entire game turn (ie, both the controlling player’s turn and their opponent’s following player turn) for all of its weapons except its heavy bolters/heavy flamers."

Unfortunately it doesnt say that you get to CHOOSE to Skyfire, just that your weapons gain skyfire. So snap shots at ground targets.

Turn 1 get into position and shoot tanks. Turn 2 stay still and shoot tanks/fliers, intercepting fliers. Turn 3 fliers should be dead, can't shoot weapons that intercepted. Turn 4 mop up fliers/tanks.

If you stay stationary, just don't choose to gain skyfire if you dont need it.
>>
>>50623426
>I think it will work, but I'd like a second opinion.
Its the same as my first and third opinion, yes.

Night Lords are right up there with Word Bearers and World Eaters for leading examples of "typical" CSM among the traitor legions. Given that they were THE trendsetters for over-the-top brutality and sadism with the use of mutilated remains of their victims Its hard to argue against the use of CSM bits and kits for 30k NL. Heck, it might even suit them better than the FW resin kits because of how much effort they made to have the edgiest armor possible.

If you can't get hype over an army coated in dismembered remains and skullspikes purely for the sake of shock value and gore over bland, perfectly uniform marks of factory-fresh armor than you need to seriously reconsider if you actually want to play Night Lords.
>>
>>50623662

I'm just making sure, sorry.

I can get hype, trust me. I was just freaking out because the first time (wasn't in the last few threads) I asked about using raptors as legion raptors, I took shit for it and put it aside for awhile. You've helped, though, so thanks.

So, on the topic, I'm doing it.

Who should get what heads? I think the MkIII grate would look cool on a raptor, but the MKIV heads are also pretty cool.

If people give you crap because you use plastic in 30k then the best solution is to counter-grognard them by bringing up the Visions of Heresy artbooks and IA articles. Furthermore, Night Lords are the epitome of style over substance so anyone insisting that Night Lords would even care about dumb crap like "supply lines" "standardization" or "common sense" is obviously far too unfamiliar with Night Lords for their opinion on the matter to mean anything.

Besides, the proper response for a Night Lords legionnaire in response to anything ever would be to call him a loyalist while throwing another infant on the barbecue

Are the Betrayal at Calth/Burning of Prospero actually decent games on their own?

I'm quite tempted to snag out after the disappointing Skitarii/CultMech "battleforce" but the issue is that my local area is pretty lacking in 40k players, much less 30k players, so functionality as a boardgame is a concern (at least until I move away from "literally the forest" in a year or so).

EC-guy, another scrap marine built! Cobbled together with a mish-mash of pieces, I'll be finishing him tomorrow. I still have to green-stuff the back of the left-knee, clean him a bit more, brush on some primer, and then paint. I'm also in the process of casting some aquila wings with greenstuff in the hopes of being able to create wing trimmings for my marines. At this point I'm just killing time til my BaC set arrives next week.

Why do you hate HH series so much?

Honest question, because I'm relatively new to the whole 40k world, started getting into it ~year ago, and started novels this fall, I'm at MEchanicum now.

Some of them are not the highest heights, but that's expected from "franchise" novels. But it's still pretty nice read for background and lore. Some of them even have good amounts of manly tears in them.

I hear about retcons all the time - are they that bad? What are some examples? (don't worry about spoiling anything, I can stomach it).

Can someone help explain to me how volkite weapons work?

It is a red beam that will hit a biological target and then incinerate it instantly? This sounds a lot like a melta, but at range and effective on flesh rather than armour. Though I prefer the Space Marine video game's take on the melta, being a flashing shotgun blast.

What happens if the volkite beam hits power armour? How could it penetrate it?

What happens if the volkite beam hits a vehicle or a heavy tank?

What does a volkite beam look like from a bigger weapon of its kind? Like on dreadnoughts and the glaive. How would having a bigger beam do anything better? Isn't this also exactly just like any other typical las-weapon?
>>
>>50627224
Volkite is based on old-timey martian death rays, which chain-reacts into explosive decomposition something, usually flesh into gas and liquid and all your other bits and pieces. Because this decomposition reaction is so powerful, it can somehow inflict the same hit again after causing a wound, presumably by the reaction continuing to effect your buddy after you explode all over him.

If it decomposes the armour, the reaction will continue to effect the flesh. If the reaction stops before that, the armour held fast.

Lighter volkites just ping off armour, same as bolt rounds. Carronades and demi-culverins probably just explode a hole through armour because their initial power is higher or some such

Bigger beam, moar power, greater initial energy in the first reaction to cause decomposition.

All of the above is baseless supposition from how martian rayguns work comparative from other media when talking about a weapon in a game of plastic and resin army men. Possibly being baited because frog picture, i dont know how you young'uns do your trolling these days

I think they're heat rays rather than lasers. See the description of the Fighting Machines' heat-rays from War of the Worlds (because they're literally martian deathrays).

>"However it is done, it is certain that a beam of heat is the essence of the matter. Heat, and invisible, instead of visible light. Whatever is combustible flashes into flame at its touch, lead runs like water, it softens iron, cracks and melts glass, and when it falls upon water, incontinently that explodes into steam."

Except volkite beams are visible and go CHOOM rather than being silent. Bigger beams look like the energy attacks out of illustrated Mongolian animal husbandry manuals.

Are those Shermans in the background?

>>50624992

>>
>>50627344
>>50627224
An addendum. Volkite beams don't have to be able to penetrate power armour. Imagine you're a dude encased in metal, for example you're wearing full plate armour on a hot summer's day. Your armour's gonna heat up, and it'll be uncomfortable. Now for volkite, turn that up past 11. Turn it to CHOOM. Heat transferred through the armour can cause the flesh & organs beneath to combust explosively, flash-boiling any fluids (of which the human/transhuman body is 70%). Ouch.

He's in MKVII, but covered in robes and his hands are styled like gloves. The helmet is kind of crap but that aside it's a nice model with fairly typical Dark Angels attire. Yes. Perhaps I should try to put it in more 30/40k terms. The Thousand Sons in that picture are trying to create a Warp projection of their papa out of their love and devotion to him. Despite them being more devoted and loving their papa more than the other two legions who are really devoted to their dad(Luna Wolves/SoHs and the Blood Angels) they still do not know how to form his arms quickly.

>Big E trusted Magnus to be responsible and just sit on it instead of going full sperglord.
And that was idiotic beyond belief. Magnus stayed in contact with the Emperor after being scattered. When the properly meet it was said they embraced as old friends. When On Terra they sailed the warp together and the Emps told him things about the warp. When he broke this trust punish him for it. Sit him on the chair of unending agony. Dont let him go home by himself because he is GOING to use his powers. And once he does once there now no stopping him as now the ban is meaning less and hes going to try and prove you wrong.

Magnus is a primarch. He is expected to obey and have faith in the Emperor. When he betrayed that faith, the Emperor did not seek his destruction outright like the -=REDACTED=- and instead told Russ to bring Magnus back to give him the cleaning mop and make him clean up his own mess. The situation wasn't beyond repair, but Horus fucked it all up.
>>
>>50628688
>>50628706
I'm pretty sure that was justified when the Emperor gave Magnus a broken, mutating legion that was on the verge of collapse and let him figure it out.

"Hm dad is too retarded to save them, but I found a solution. So what else was dad retarded about?"

In the end Magnus was an idiot with no self-control, but he was shaped by the Emperor.
>>
>>50628780

The legion stabilized when Magnus returned to restore his geneseed and his leadership, like all the other legions. There were other legions who were left in a far worse state of affairs when they were finally picked up by their primarchs.

The thing is were not even at that point yet. That cock up was the obvious next step after Nikaea.

Magnus could not be trusted by the Emperor, Nikaea made that clear. If he could not be trusted why leave him alone unsupervised? Why let him leave at all? If you have to keep him for the webway project keep him with you where you can watch him 24/7. Better you waste a legion doing nothing then letting them do nothing by themselves.

>>
>>50628796
What? No they did not stabilize at all, the mutations were rampant and it took Magnus making a blind pact with Tzeentch to finally stop it.
>>
>>50628828
Magnus made a deal with Tzeentch to save his legion. He just didnt know it was Tzeentch.

The Emperor rocked up and dropped his legion off then bailed and left him to sort it out. Magnus only knowing how to use magic used magic to fix it. There has no explaination for why the Emperor let to get to this point. When they got to Prospero 1000 TS were left, with many locking in statis pods.
>>
>>50628828
Magnus + TS reunited.
Magnus spends all of his energy trying to stop the mutations.
On the cusp of despair, finally discovers a warp denizen who is able to stop the mutations.
Agrees to a pact with the entity, sacrifices an eye as payment.

Just kidding of course it all under control the moment they were reunited, Magnus just popped out an eye for shit and giggles.

It's in Fulgrim. He wasn't an actual demon at Istvaan V, but the demon inside the sword was gaining control over him. During most of the fight it had control, but the demon edged him out when it saw the opportunity to kill Ferrus. After the battle while coming to terms with what had he had just done, Fulgrim slipped up and the demon took full control.

You proved nothing wrong. You said that 9 times GW ignored BL and acted like its the norm when in reality it's the opposite. GW's releases mostly acknowledged what's in the novels.

For example WoM which was full of BL references and even went with BL's Ahriman and magnus backstories.

GW mentioned the deal, the sharding, and much more. This confirms that Magnus was the first Chaos Primarch, not Lorgar.

Pretty loud I imagine, I was a bit of a metal fan (still am).

Forgeworld Sonic Box-dread (twin-Blasters, FW managed to misplace my Blast Master arm).

Heavy Bolters on Land Raider replaced with Sonic Blasters (yup, hardware downgrade at the time)

Lucius the Eternal as HQ

1 5-man squad of Sonic Blaster equipped Terminators, converted from metal Grey Knights, replacing the wrist-mounted bolter with a sonic blaster.
2 10-man squads with Sonic Blasters and a Blast Master

3 squads of 6 metal sexy daemonettes
1 squad of 3 metal sexy Slaaneshi cavalry

The army was a cool concept, but apart from a few test conversions and ordering the bits it never got going.

You both are right, however the true problem about using this rule has not been mentioned.

You get to decide whether or not you gain the skyfire/interceptor, HOWEVER, you have to chose that immediately, not later during the shooting phase depending on your targets.

During the movement phase, if you do not move, you must immediately chose whether you will be getting the skyfire/interceptor or not. No take backsies.

Some swords IRL were pretty thick, like the gladius that is ubiquitous thanks to muh space Romans, and in 30,000 AD it would make sense for swords to be pretty thick in order to hack through power armour.
Though of course the EC would have a preference for using "aesthetic" swords built for fast slashing and stabbing angles, like the "charnabral sabre".

Eh, who knows.
I was going to say they preferred broad blades due to structural integrity and avoid breaking, since power fields meant armours were pierced as if they were butter no matter the blade geometry, but rapiers being frail is a myth too.

It's simple preference: most marines are seen wielding blades from either the medieval period or even earlier. Gladii, Xiphos, etc., one of the most "modern" swords they wield are longswords, like the Swift Justice pattern. I mean Archamus is described as having a seax. That's a M1 pattern blade.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seax

Meanwhile the IG and non augmented humans are seen wielding more modern blades, like sabres, cutlasses and such. This is because those later blades were still used by regular infantry like the IG, while the older examples were used by knights like the Space Marines.

Have a Ye Olde Custodae poleweapon.

Jesus christ, why not just buy a fat mat and some infinity walls or even use the 40k buildings to create walls and corridors..That just looks like too much effort for nothing.

Because it works, and it's considerably cheaper than just buying pre-made terrain. If you're willing to put the time and effort into building foam terrain, you can get great results for a fraction of the cost, and it can be customized as desired.

Hah, I love this effect! I actually did something very similar with my Retribution forces for Warmachine using Golden Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Crimson. It's a bit tricky to get it to set evenly, but the end result looks very impressive!

I am actually liking the potential those walls have. If you go for a under ground tunnel system/rock tunnel theme that should come up alright.

Planning on building some TS. Would anyone be opposed to using fantasy High Elf bits as decorations? I was mainly planning on using banner tops for cult symbols or staff heads, and some white lion pauldrons as crests on veterans/command squads.

Cataphractii are slow and purposeful, and regular termies have a 5++

If you're looking for low-effort detailing, the GW crates and fuel pipes work really well.
