I'm planning on getting back into it with an all robot Tau army. Just the mechs of all sizes, no tanks or footsloggers.

It looks nice, but you might want to add some sort of feathers to frame his face or some other touch to make his silhouette more imposing, to add weight to him as a character. That, and to make the base nicely decorated, so that it makes the miniature (ironically) stand out.

Yes you can, that is what we are here for.
But it might be good to take a look at one of the painting .PDF's in the OP, >>50481790
to get a general grip of the process. You can also check the Games Workshop painting YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/GamesWorkshopWNT/videos

Also, when painting Tyranids, there are some simple management techniques you can get into when painting to make it quicker and easier, such as painting 10 of the same body parts at the same time. 10 heads, then 10 torsos, and so on. This is substantially better than doing one miniature whole, at a time.
>>
>>50482134
A year is 365 days. There's already been one Chaos release in the last 365 days prior to Abaddon coming out. So you're wrong.
>>
I'm thinking about finally starting 40k in a few months after being a fan of the fluff for 10 yrs (and playing WM/H and Malifaux on the tabletop) if I manage to save some money. How viable and expensive would and army of Deathwatch with some Inquisition be?

Thinking about some Henchmen in Chimeras or Razorbacks for numbers and some Ordo Hereticus guy to fuck psykers or Coteaz from the Inquisition, and getting the DW side of Death Masque plus maybe the new battlebox, or some flyer shit.
>>
>>50482131
If you're buying the Command Squad just for the Apothecary set and the banner arm, you might want to consider buying these pieces individually from bits sites such as Bits n Kits or Bitzbox.
I can't vouch for Bitsbarn
You better do justice to those bases, anon
>>
>>50482149
The year starts in January you heathen.
>>
>>50482168

Deathwatch are one of the easiest armies to get onto the table quickly, because all their units are expensive to field.

Although, surely your Inquisitor should be Ordo Xenos?

A mini of my inquisitor in power armor.

To be used in roleplay games and tabletop as well.

I will make a retinue with maybe one other space marine, servitors, an eagle etc....

The smoothness of the armor is done on purpose so I can paint details on it, and also because it's a basic mk 8 power armor that he shouldnt have in the first place.

The bolter is a relic he has that a servitor carries, and he only uses to shoot menaces from three feet away, hence why it looks so out of proportion.

He mainly gives orders and is on good terms with my custom chapter.

This means this miniature can be proxied to be an inquisitor, but also a veteran in a command squad, a sternguard or a sergeant in a tactical squad as well.

>>
>>50482168
Are you getting these d00ds just for painting, or for playing too? You might want to make a list first, then buy according to the list. Kind of like making a shopping list actually
Also, Forge World stuff is generally quite expensive, but your army might overall be cheaper than other armies since you'll have less dudes with more equipment. Kind of like the Grey Knights.
>>
>>50482169

I'll look into what looks good with dark purple armor, but I'm not a big fan of giant bases crammed with shit. I'd rather have standard bases on all my miniatures, regardless of how unique they are.

>>
>>50482130
I'm Anon. :^)
>>
>>50482168

Deathwatch is very viable economically but its hard to win games if you dont powergame and minmax, because almost all models are one wound and they have arguably the smallest model count army (tau powergamers aside)
>>
>>50482198
That's a good attitude to have, smack-filled bases can easily bring a miniature down.
But just a bit of sand, paint, shade and pigment makes a model significantly more delicious, anon.
Grass might be too contrasting if you're going with purple, an arctic tundra might work with it since there's blue tones, but a dusty, orange sandscape might be just right.
>>
>>50482208
If there was only one Chaos release in 2016, and only one Chaos release in 2017, then that means there was only one chaos release per year, you fucking mongoloid. The fact that they were released a month apart is irrelevant.

I can't believe we're arguing over a joke post

Also you could've shut my argument down a lot easier by mentioning that Chaos literally just got BOTH Wrath of Magnus and Traitor Legions
>>
>>50482184
This sounds daft, but he looks TOO much like a marine to be an inquisitor. I would've used an IG head.
>>
>>50482229
Sounds nice. Depending on the rest of the colour scheme, you might want to make it a more purple-burgrundy red, think Farsight so it doesn't contrast *too* much.
>>
>>50482244
Traitor's Hate, Wrath of Magnus and Traitor Legions.

But I'm just having fun arguing over stupid shit. I am an easily pleased person.

And last but not least, I'm assembling all overkill models with helmets on.

I tried to be as lore accurate as possible, so all models have fluffy helmets.

The helmet on the White Scar is the equivalent of the one he has on his bike in the original model.

I still dont have the Dark Angel helmet or the Iron Hand miniature.

I'll try to get a FW night lords maximus helmet with a skull for Cassius
>>
>>50482181
I always had a boner for Hereticus, but Sisters belong to the kitchen. DWs color scheme is cool and their new models look sweet, and relatively low model count is a huge plus.

>>50482194
I'm mostly interested in playing, painting was often just a chore for me (thank all the Malifaux undead for that).
Haven't made any lists yet, not even read the full rulebooks or anything, just planning in advance. Codex: Imperial Agents might change some of those plans though.
>>
>>50482253

I'll paint it in blue or dark red with imperial / inquisitorial symbols.

It is based on oldhammer, when inquisitors had terminator armor and weird patterns painted on them.

It's also clearly inspired by Silas Hand from the Daemonifuge comics
>>
>>50482235
I have nothing against powergaming and minmaxing as long as the army looks cool in the process. Was seriously considering starting orcs when Nob Bikers and Battlewagons were the shit, but ended up spending my money on more Malifaux as I haven't had time for two games.
>>
>>50482275
Reading the rulebook is my recommendation, it gives you some thoughts as to what parts and aspects of the army you like and want to reflect in your fighting force.
Also, i implore you to atleast prime and basecoat your minis, it looks significantly nicer, takes little time, and might save you issues with sniffy GW or game store employees.

Guys, I've re-started this game's campaing for nostalgia' sake, but I don't remember what was better for Bjo-Davin Thule, if full melee or full assault cannon.

I ask here because this game's general is now long dead.
>>
>>50481826
I actually like this one
>>
>>50482342

The problem is you'll have to spend a fuckton of money to buy bits to build your army

Deathwatch is not good unless you specialize absolutely everything.

This means for example you'll have to buy three extra frag cannons for each 4 frag cannon unit you want to make.

Also you'll probably be better off running them as allies to Imperial Guard because that can give you meatshields.

It sucks to spend a fortune on three terminators and five marines only to see them get rekt in the first turn because they only have one wound.

Strapped right to their crotch plate. Count it as an unwieldy power weapon.

Well aside from sex and nudity, which is the obvious route, the thing that I think best expresses Slaanesh in model terms is luxury. Things like big luxurious furs, ornate polished armor. Bling of all sorts but not the psychedelic kaleidoscope of Tzeentch. This would also cover elaborate black bondage gear stuff too. Purples, Golds, Blacks, Whites and Flesh. This is cleaving more to the original Emperor's Children look, but I think it still works for Veterans of the Long War. It gels with Noise Marines too if you give them the old Glam Rock-y style rather than stretched skin, strung out junkie look of recent models.
>>

Ryza Orange.

Studs, black leather, whips, sabers and recurved weapons, noise weapons, black + bright color, screaming faces, gruesome implants / modifications. Hooves and other mutations. Fur and rich capes. Ornate armors.
>>
So, a saintly kind man that I know is painting some Marines for me for free. Hes a professional and I'm just giving him the ork stories from battle of Verdos. I'm getting some third party bits from anvil to roubd out the fluff. The army I'm doing is a renegade SM chapter that relies heavily on scouts and concentrates rare equipment on members who can generate the black carapace. Anyway, what are some general etiquette rules for asking this guy to paint my stuff? Also what's a good paint scheme for these stealth Marines that incorporates grey scale and a shade of light purple?

>>
Why became admech such a huge thing? i mean they are cool... but are they rly so cool, that they get release after release?
>>
>>50483807
Have you never worked above production expectations? Ive almost gotten fired for the above and beyond. More work means more logistics and paperwork, more money to ship what you're doing, or a surplus (which depending on your work) that could spoil. Im not saying they'd do it first time, but in this universe anything not within the 'average' sector is either A) Too slow and must be replaced or B) Too efficient for protocol, must be heresy or daemons.
>>
>>50481979
>Blue Scribes and Herald spam as auxiliary
Welp, I'm sold. Incursion is still probably the better competitive option, but this new FBD looks fun.
>>
What is the best was to field this guys ?
Grav + Phosphor ?
>>
>>50483801
> melee focused guys in a primarily shooty army
> melee focused guys in a primarily shooty game

Melee units rarely work, much less so when they are T3, move 6" a turn and have no assault transports.
It's all well and good to say they are better than your other options, but compare them to actual melee units. A good melee unit needs to be on the same level as:
Wulfen
Thunderwolves
Wraiths
Flesh Hounds
Genestealer Hybrids
Harlequins

If they can't fight an actual melee threat, then they aren't a threatening melee unit.
>>
>>50483829
They are literally a piece of their patron, and their patron a piece of them.

Even Magnus' whole 'fuck tzeentch, im gonna do THIS' is tje plan all along.
>>
>>50483763
I brought this up in the other thread.
It's legal and stronger as a Cadian Battle Group Formation. With the formation it's even stronger.
Add an Aegis for 50 points, give camo and just laugh.
>>
>>50483834
>tfw love TS but hate Tzeentch for this exact reason
>>
>>50483860
Admech was one of the things that GW not only didn't disappoint but exceeded expectations, so I think it's good that they've really blown up.
>>
>>50483829
Because they are spiritually bound to them.

Also pretty sure most of Tzeentch's servants hate him, but they serve Him without knowing. Magnus, Ahriman
>>
>>50483860

It's because they are that cool. People love the look of them. I love the look of them. And they released with pretty solid and fairly balanced rules.

People have also been waiting on models to represent the fighting forces of one of the setting's largest and strangest organizations, long fluffed as being replete with bizarre technological marvels and legions of relentless half-flesh half-tin soldiers.
>>
>>50483873
Depends what you want out of them.

I generally have multiple grav + phospher units as a the main gunline, with a side unit of all plasma + flamers

You get your techpriest the autocadeuseus and attach them to the plasma unit, and they can just slowly walk forward obliterating everything and shrugging off Gets Hot like it's nothing
>>
>>50483862
>A) Too slow and must be replaced or B) Too efficient for protocol, must be heresy or daemons.
Obviously not.

And they aren't packing melons for walmart, it's drudgework, mining, slag-metling, fungus farming in a city where the bottom 20% edge around starvation.

It's all in their lore, they advance to become managers and earn privilege with productivity.
>>
>>50483801
The issue is the T3, I3, 1W, 5++, 5-man squad costs 90 points. If they got an Initiative boost (Electric men deserve I5 at least, I think) then it'd be justifiable, but for the cost it's not worth it.

They exist to crush MCs, but it just doesn't come together. If they had Rending that'd be another story, but as is even just 2 of them to guard gunlines would be money better spent on some more Kataphrons/Skitarii.

I don't mind the Corpuscarii, though I'd like to see them get Tesla or some other boost to the 'drown them in shots' idea.
>>
>>50483891

Even Skitarii get better with their speedy Sicarians.

Corpuscar are somewhat better if you get them into range and take them by volume, plus stacking modifiers to add to it. They can be the ded shootingest army you can get with all the lightning they can put out, practically a footslogging electrical storm.
>>
>>50483921
thanks, but i`ve got another related question
In what cases are breachers better ? When i looked at the codex it looked like as if destroyer were better at everything, except for close combat
>>
Skitarri/Admech wide canticles AND doctrines fucking when?
>>
>>50483964
there is a formation that gives imperial knights and skitarii the canticles, which is really usefull
>>
>>50483873
Yeah. If you're in a War Convo the Plasma is 100% broken, but otherwise the Gets Hot means you can lose a guy to stupid fire. It's still good, especially if you've got a Tech-Priest to heal wounds, but end of the day Grav is Grav, and that's never a bad thing, especially with 30" range.

The Flamers are ok, if you're facing hoards it's downright dirty, but unless youve got the extra points don't do it- your boys shouldn't be up close in the first place.
>>
>>50483951
4+ or 3+ and different weapons.
They all have great weapons. The Breachers seem better for popping vehicles, but can make a great tar pit with 2w and 5t.
>>
>>50483971
I know what War Convocation is, anon.

I want my Admech units to get Doctrines, too.
>>
>>50483951
Breachers are when you absolutely, positively need some enemy vehicles fucking dead. They're fantastic breachers, but that's about it

Destroyers can simply lay down more firepower, since all their weapons are either template or multiple shots, they always count as stationary even when moving, and they can fire both weapons in the same turn
>>
>>50483933

...Corpuscarii already have Tesla.
>>
>>50483841
Well yeah? If its bound only then its not really anything goes. That cadian battle group CCS spam list is bound, consisting of a single battle group. Its just a bit of fun.

>>50483898
I may have to proxy some stuff and just try it.
>>
>>50483982

If they did you'd still probably only get to choose one per turn.

Either way, it'd be interesting to see how they combine them for the Red Book.
>>
>>50483868
Only thing I dislike about this the loss of so many things for mehh
> Lose both of Corruption / Obj Secured
> Lose Reroll 1's for +1 to Invulnerable (max 3++).
>Reroll Warpstorm, but Fateweaver already does this...

Maybe if it was +1 to any save with no max. (Because who cares of a 2++ no reroll, when it's already possible to get a 2++ rerollable)

Granted it frees you from Fateweaver having to be Warlord... but I kinda would rather take a Daemon Incursion / CAD with Omniscience Oracles for megabirds.
>>
>>50483982
Anon, there IS a formation that does that very thing.

It requires one of EVERY unit from both codices, you need 2 Onagers and 3 Dragoons or Ironstriders, but in return you get army wide use of both Doctrina nad Canticles and a unique doctrina and canticle.

The Doctrina improves WS AND BS by 3 points and the Canticle gives everyone an invun save 1-3 units is 6+ 4-7 is 5+ and 8+ is 4+.

It's the formation that came with the web store bundle sold ages ago but taking it in aregular game is nearly impossible as I'm pretty sure it's over or near 2000 points naked.
>>
>>50484047
Also I forgot, you need 2 units of Kastelans
>>
The Dominus Maniple (the formation from the Skitarii Start Collecting box) is so fucking good.

It gets you a legit Warlord in a Skitarii-only army, it gives you rerolls on ranged attacks, and it only costs a few hundred points, and is made of units you'd be taking anyway (literally just a Dominus, Vanguard/Rangers and an Onager)
>>

They are brand new, have cool rules with unique flavor, look gorgeous and are still not fleshed out fully so of course they get lots of releases for now. They're like the #4 selling army despite only being a year old and GW can sometimes recognize a good thing (sometimes)

Aldo they've already sold a shit load of half codexes and have an opportunity to sell a full sized codex to the very same people only one year later. They've struck jewgold
>>
>>50483860

There are people who have been waiting 20+ years for an AdMech army in 40k.
>>
>>50483860
Like the other Anon said, people have been waiting for a long time for AdMech. I have been waiting since 3rd edition for something like Bullgryns. I know they are bad, but I've been wanting them to look cool and be tougher, just like the rules and models have made them. I'm super happy about it so I always include at least a squad of 3 in my army. They are a point sink in the end, but I'm always happy to field them, even if all they do is tank shots or die.

Yeah, Incursion with Fateweaver Warlord is still clearly the optimal build, but this at least lets you roll on the new traits table with a reroll and keep the Warpstorm reroll.

>Warpstorm:
A lot are mehh that help the enemy too much or don't do enough. Personally I like the base Warpstorm because it has only "4" (2-4, & 6) negative effects vs this one which helps my opponent "6" times (equal bonuses). Take salt

2 – Choose at random one non-daemon Character. This character suffers 1D3 Wounds withount saves of any kind. If slain, create a Chaos Spawn

3 – If any psiker manifest a power, the have to roll on the perils table with any double result

4 – Choose at random one Daemon of Tzeentch Character. Remove it from play. Return him to the battlefield via DS.

5 – All psikers manifest powers with 3+

6 – All flamer weapons gain the warpflame SR

7 – Each player may reroll up to 1D3 dice until end of turn. Each player rolls the D3 separetly.

8 – Psychic power cost is reduce by 1 (mínimum 1). If one psyker fails to manifest a power, automaticalli roll on the perils table.

9 – Roll a D6 for every unit on the battlefield. With a result of 1 or 2, D6 hits, S4, AP4, Warpflames

10 – Via DS, deploy a unit of 10 Brimstone horrors

11 – Choose at random a non-Daemon of Tzeentch Character. Check LD. If failed, model is removed from play, replaced by a Herald of Tzeentch

12- Choose a Daemon of Tzeentch Character. Check Ld. If failed, model is removed from play. If passed, model is replaced by a Lord of Change.

Yeah, the Frontline review mentions those, as well as a reroll for seize. If those aren't conditional in some form, those are fantastic bonuses for models that I was already going to take anyways. Even just the reroll to seize or manifest would be worth it on its own.

>3 – If any psiker manifest a power, the have to roll on the perils table with any double result

Eh. I could see that table being kinda okay with the +/- 1 from the Incursion, but that's pretty risky with just a reroll.

So how should we go about fielding Exalted Sorcerers? I'm probably gonna need to use two until I get more daemons to fill out my Thousand Sons army, but I'm legit not sure how to use these guys.

They're not terrible in melee so I was thinking perhaps using them with terminators or tzaangors? Maybe even give one the artifact to make a unit jump type, put him with twenty Tzaangors and have them rush something early?

I wanted to give one a disk and put it in a unit with a few screamers, but turns out I can't do that so I'm having a hard time seeing a use for the disc.

Probably not. S7 versus S6 is pretty big on Flickering Fire, doubling effectiveness against the ubiquitous AV12. Personally, I'd also rather a constant, good effect than a variably effective effect.

I could definitely see nabbing some on the Heralds Anarchic though, depending on cost. Would be great on a Pink/Screamer-star, especially with Fateweaver's reroll if you roll a 1 or 2.

>>50484735
He's too expensive to spam, especially when a regular Sorcerer is just as good a caster for 60 points less. I'm thinking one with the Seer's Bane will be plenty for me. Throw him on a Disc with some spawn, and he can mulch pretty much anything. Almost always wounding on a 4+ or better with Instant Death on demand, AP2, at-initiative. Probably go for Biomancy, although Librarium isn't too shabby either.

Tzeentch Spawn have the potentially to be pretty beefy if you can get any of the Invuln-granting blessings on them, and, if nothing else, you should have plenty of dice to go fishing for Endurance. Do we know if they get the the Warherd formation benefits? Fleet Spawn with the potential for S6 would be sick.
