Just a heads up for everyone here who is interested in UESRPG, but isn't following things too closely: we've picked up a bunch of folks for the team, and we're doing a new edition. We have the manpower, motivation, and justification necessary to make it happen.

We don't intend to deviate too dramatically from some of our core mechanics (it's still d100, for example). But the goal is to streamline and simplify both the process of learning and playing the game, while maintaining much of the cool stuff that makes it interesting, as I'll be the first to admit it's a clunky bastard.

I'll have details soon. You can check out the subreddit if you want the full speech, or visit our discord (via our link in the OP) if you want to help out or just shitpost about cliffracers.

I for one am super hype about where things are going. We're gonna make TES P&P great again.

Meridia, or Merid, or Merid-Nunda, was a follower of Magnus, a Magne-Ge, Magna-Ge, or Get.

How incredibly Cyrodiilic of you to think that.

Zenithar is above all the God of Work, Toil and Labour, a god of soldiers more than a god of warriors. Seeing him as having to do with the merchant class is more of a regional thing, he's just as much an agricultural god.

Talking about Ysgramor the Dragon last thread get, we touched on the whole theme of "doing is being" that's somewhat of a metaphysical truth in TES.

While on a different level, this combination of believing, being and doing is something that's pretty prominent in Khajiiti religion and culture..

The interplay between Fadomai and Azurah in traditional Khajiiti faith is echoed in the relationship between Clan Mother and Favoured Daughter, with religious secrecy to mirror their stories of the divine.

Baan Dar is a god, but he's also a concept/symbol, as well as being a way of life. One can believe in Baan Dar, one can believe in what Baan Dar represents, and if one does like Baan Dar, one can "be" Baan Dar.

Riddle'Thar is a god in one sense, and his avatars can walk Tamriel, but he's also a concept of cosmic order, which in practice is really a set of guidelines about how to live. Believing in Riddle'Thar is in a sense the same as acting according to Riddle'Thar, or even "being" Riddle'Thar.

The ja-Kha'jay is a religious concept, but it also decides your appearance, and it has been the basis for a system of governance, the phases of the moons deciding which parts/regions of Khajiiti society are dominant. The Mane is both the religious and political leader.

Even names are kind of related, since it's common to take a name describing what you do. You are Jobasha (Basha the Scholar) because you do scholarly work.
>>

She was one of the Magna-Ge, the Aedra who managed to flee before being trapped in the mortal world.

After being severed from the veil of souls she hates anyone who would do that to another person and thus wishes to return the souls of the undead back to their place I.e. she wishes to free souls trapped as unread or trapped by necromancers.

She was kicked out of the Magna-He for "consulting with illicit spectra" which may mean one of the following:
She banged some Ayelid dude.
She was buddies with a daedra.
She had contact with some other spirit in the veil we know nothing about.

Eh. Most of them look like Chin Man with an extra chromosome. Not that any race in the games really looks better.
Besides, I'd say I like how Breton Women look more than Nordic women regardless of height. Runa is a qt, though.
>>50430559
Bosmeri men were always the shortest, but they seem to be getting less short in each game. Personally I like the height discrepancy between Bosmer.
>>
>>50430559

>>

Pretty much. Bosmeri women, Argonian women, Redguard Women, Khajiit men, and Dunmer of both genders are also average height, known as 1.

In Morrowind, Nords were the second tallest race, just behind Altmer. Orcs were shorter than Nords.

Nords have several cultural influences from vikings to germans to baltic people who are at least somewhat slavic, to scots in morrowind with the accents and the Woad Paint and even hungarians in skyrim in the name of Farkas which im fairly sure is Hungarian (vilkas beeing something from the baltic languages if im not wrong)

Races in TES dont directly relate to a real life people and you shouldnt make that mistake. Nordic burial traditions are positiveley chinese to name one aspect.

As for a direct Slavic pendant the closest you get is Colovians, see Rislav Larich for a very slavic name, even tho the game is mostly known for its Badlore, if you check out oblivions names for norhtern imperials you will find quite a few slavic sounding names in Colovians.

Either way dont listen to people saying "X TES race is just Y", especialy not if "Y" is "Vikings".

Unofficial only.
Though with how Zenimax is treating the licence these days, I wouldn't be surprised if something official came out sooner or later.

There's a lot of projects in various stages of completion, but the two big ones are:

UESRPG, which is getting it's third edition, is a p&p rpg and the project that has the biggest following. Pretty polished for a homebrew, has several supplements. Now if I could only find a group that didn't fall apart.

Scrollhammer, skirmish-scale wargame inspired by Infinity amongst other things. Gets infrequent updates, but has a pretty large amount of content by now. Which I've also been meaning to play more of come Christmas time.

The majority of this thread is loreposting.

So this has been something that has been nagging at me for a while and I was wondering if this was ever covered in the lore outside the games.

When the end of the kalpa comes, does Sovngarde experience and event like Ragnarok? Where the Nord warriors go out to battle someone alongside Shor? And if so, is it really the final battle, or simple the first battle?

Since Alduin resets time at the end of a kalpa back to Convention, does that mean the Nord dead actually become soldiers in that first war between Lork and Aka? Does Talos then exist as a separate entity?

I've been wanting to make a Dwemer ruin dungeon-delving special scenario for a while now, ala old board games or Space Hulk. One player would put together a dungeon party and have to achieve X objectives while the other keeps getting more Dwemer Centurions or whatever to throw around inside. Would take a lot of balancing and tuning, so I haven't started on that yet. Could see something similar for Falmer.

Right now I'm going to get started on Witchmen of the Reach. Might poke at some of the standard scenarios while I'm at it. Dagoth Guy left some notes for them so that makes the task easier.

I don't think I've ever seen puzzles in a wargame format. Not sure how it would work.
Maybe the "defending" player gets to decide the particular configuration of puzzles and traps, or you run it like a campaign with a third party GM. Either way it's strange, though not necessarily bad if implemented correctly.

Problem is you'd need a third party arbitrator to judge that a puzzle is doable, or a list of supported puzzles that would become memorable.

Completing the puzzle would probably just mean picking up an objective with a miniature and/or free equipment like potions and whatnot. Maybe a weapon upgrade. Iunno.

Tfw your meme shitpost actually started a decent discussion.

To add something worthwhile to it, I think that puzzles should either be modular, or have a fixed solution. Like, the player controlling "the monsters" will probably draw them from some kind of card deck or something like that, so there could be puzzles he can place in there, with solutions on the backside of the card or something, so he can't cheat.
>>
>>50439850
That's true, it's just a question of how to make it work and be interesting. A simple 'hurr, rotate the triangles until the lever works' or similar puzzle probably wouldn't be that amusing without some kind of time constraint or something.

Or maybe I'm just mistaken, and a handful of lizards standing around in a tomb rotating stones would be thematic enough.
>>
>>50439937
With Dwemer ruins the possibilities are pretty much endless, from holograms and GPS cubes to a simple password.
>>
>>50439962
Dwemer, yeah.
>>
>>50439825
>a list of supported puzzles that would become memorable
That's my problem too, because that's the only real way to do it.
You can't really support total freedom. You'd need a finite amount of possibilities with a reasonable level of difficulty, and then it might just turn into a situation where whoever has memorised the most puzzle modules has the upper hand.

I could see it work in two ways:
In a "dungeon raid" scenario, the defending player gets to pick a puzzle from a list of modules, perhaps with certain allowed alterations. I don't think this adds a lot to the game in terms of solving the puzzle, but it might be fun to actually complete it. Like it's not hard to figure out that you have to mess around with certain levers, but fighting to get to all of them changes the tactics a bit.

In a campaign scenario, a GM could make the battle objective locked behind a puzzle, and the players have the option of trying to rush the puzzle and steal the objective to win rather than fight the enemy outright. But I don't know how likely a "campaign scenario" is for Scrollhammer.

It's more of a gamemode and tactics change than a puzzle outright, in that it would be more about doing it than figuring it all out.

I wanna start a campaign that takes place in Tamriel, and throughout the campaign travels across the entire continent.
Having a hard time coming up with a not boring reason to travel across all of Tamriel for a long ass campaign. Only decent thing I've come up with is attempt to find and destroy/contain all known Dadreic artifacts

Any ideas for a plot or some cool plot devices would be very much appreciated

>>
>>50444789
Take notes from how Morrowind does it then, it's the most nuanced of the series in that regard. Would everyone in the group be the chosen one?

There were a few (as of yet) unused plot hooks in the PGE3 that you could look at for inspiration, but that would depend on when you want to set the game. Or you could do something like what almost happened to Valenwood after the Oblivion Crisis, where it's overrun by a massive Wild Hunt and sealed off.

Have them serve a Colovian warlord. Some local nut gets it in his mind he deserves to be emperor so he's getting anyone that can swing a sword or sling a spell into an army he's building with the family fortune to conquer surrounding territories and press the locals into service to give him a proper sized fighting force to take the Imperial City. The players can be part of this ragtag army, for whatever reason they have. During one campaign that may involve burning down an orc stronghold(and recruiting survivors) players can get the chosen one shpiel(prophet NPC telling them, vision from a god, or any sort of metaphysical reality fuckery you want). Then the quest to save Nirn can involve you moving along with the army; you need to travel to a lot of different places on the continent so it's one part convincing the warlord to go where you need to go(because an army of swords around you will make the journey easier), all the while securing important points and location for the warlord to play into a secondary, more 'down-to-earth' sidequests.

I'd imagine that Dunmer are just especially that way, considering the way Jokes paints them, as well as the fact that they worship the Daedric prince of Sex and Murder.

The manifesto of a Khajiit terrorist organization tells you to fuck everybody.

Not to mention they worship Sanguine. Culturally speaking they tend to be more casual about sex.

I think Jokes is more of a meta-joke towards the Real Barenziah in general, some of its scenes regarding Barenziah in particular.
Anyways Symmachus basically tells Barenziah that the idea that Elves are all promiscuous isn't really true, and like with normal people, it depends on the person.

A Less Rude song and some other nitbits, however, imply that Morrowind-Dunmer, Telvanni in particular, tend to have weird fetishes.

Not that they're the best of sources.
The Renrijra Krin brand themselves as "The Smiling Scum", they're very much trying to sell the "fuck it, let's be rad terrorists" idea. It's a bit like looking at an ISIS recruitment video focusing on how rad Raqqa is, and how you can just get as many fuckslaves as you like.

Not saying Khajiit aren't more open about that sort of thing, I just don't take most of what the Renrijra Krin claim too seriously. I mean, Khajiit also supposedly find bare chests to be public indecency, so it's not like they're entirely libertine.

>>50457837
Khajiiti relationship to the Daedra is weird, and we have some contradictory sources on it. But sure, they recognise and probably worship Sangiin as a god of urges.

"Ah," Therris said. "Payment first, sweet thing." He put an arm around her, leaned over and kissed her, thrusting his tongue deep into her mouth and his free hand into her shirt.

"Nice," he said presently, withdrawing his tongue, but not his hand. His other hand slid down inside her waistband and fondled her buttocks.

"Let's go upstairs. We can use my room," Barenziah felt both embarassed and excited by his boldness.

Therris grinned insolently. "Why bother? You want me, don't you? I'll bet you'd pay me, wouldn't you?"

"No," Barenziah said. She did want him, but not that badly.

"No? Well, a bargain's a bargain and Therris keeps his word. But here. Now." He hiked her skirt up and pulled her onto his lap so she sat astride, facing him. He opened her shirt and pulled it down on her shoulders so that her breasts were exposed.

"Nice pair, kid." She was facing the wall but she could feel the stares of the other patrons. A hush had fallen over the place. Even the bard had stilled. She felt both nausea and a hot burning desire. Her hands released his turgid penis and then it was inside her and she was screaming in both pain and ecstasy. Then everything went black.

When she came to herself again she was sitting beside Therris, who was buttoning her shirt.

"That hurt!" she said indignantly.

"Always does, kid. Didn't anyone ever tell you about Khajiit men? It hurts good though, now doesn't it?"

Barenziah scowled at him. She was still smarting. His penis had tiny little barbs on it.

"Well, the deal's off, if you like," he shrugged.

"No, I didn't say that. Only I prefer privacy, and I want to wait awhile, like a day or so before the next time."

What is the average life of a Breton? Do they receive a formal education? Is it as comfy (or boring) as one may think?
>>
>>50458080
That's just superfluous.
>>
>>50458116
If you have any magical talent, or are noble birth, it can be pretty comfy to maximum comfy.

Otherwise there's a good chance you're SOL. Wandering murder-hobo knight-aspirant at best.
>>
>>50458116
Depends. If you have magical aptitude, you go to the Mages Guild, get a free education, and live a life of opulence with the magical elite.

If you don't, you can either join a temple or become a craftsman and live fairly well, or be a destitute peasant and farm. Youths of all classes seem to adventure a lot, This "quest-obsession," more than anything, has served as High Rock's sense of national identity, a peculiar form of altruism and mutual reliance that binds its people together.
>>
>>50458223
Should also be mentioned that most/many children were tested for magical ability at a very young age. The Mages Guild was pretty all-pervasive in High Rock while it existed.
>>
>>50458223
>completely neglects the mercantile aspect of Breton life
>>
>>50458223
Interesting! What determines magical aptitude? Is it the stars or genetics (assuming genetic principles in TES work the same way as in reality) that determine magical aptitude? Can one with little magical ability improve his abilities to a level of competency?
>>
>>50458252
How is the test conducted? In what text is this test mentioned?
>>
>>50458301
>>50458319
No idea, I don't think it was ever explicit. Probably a combination of their birthsign and how easily they can learn/cast very simple spells.

I'm sure there's also other methods.

Common Bretons come in two varieties:
>Repressed dirtfarmer
>Common labourer
The Breton culture is very much one that's designed to prohibit social movement, with nobles clinging onto their hills as much as they can. When change happens, it's often violent, a temporary breakdown of the system as old nobles get thrown out, new hills are claimed, and then it all grows rigid again.
It's not just the case that everyone's trying to move on up, those on top are actively trying to repress those below them.
Luckily there's a decent city-dwelling merchant class in a lot of the cities, so you might try to get into that. If nothing else works out, you might do what many young Bretons do, which is pick up your belongings and wander, be it as trader or mercenary.

Education comes down to what you can afford or how lucky you are. Unless you're rich enough to buy a tutor or skilled enough to get into a guild, you probably just learn whatever job your parent had. In terms of magic, the guilds are something for Bretons that live in cities, or at least a town. The rural equivalent is traditional covens.
>>
>>50458301
Stars would probably play a huge part in it, but I'd imagine things like Intelligence and Willpower would be the huge deciding factors as well.

As for if you could improve your magical aptitude, yes. You could work on your ability to cast spells, your Intelligence and Willpower, etc. and join the guild later in life.

What is the spookiest aspect of TES lore?
>>
>>50458919
So many to choose from. The Sixth House, Necromancy, Tales and Tallows, The fact that ESO might be canon, The Ideal Masters.
>>
>>50459080
From those I think the Ideal Masters are spookiest
>>
>>50459551
I can't say I agree. I mean, the Ideal Masters are spooky for what they do, sure, but I'd rather be put in front of a purple crystal than a Dagoth or one of those faceless motherfuckers beyond the Ghostfence.
>>
>>50459759
Nah, I think he's right about long term.

A Dagoth will kill you, an Ideal Master will torment you until the Kalpa ends.

That's the sort of spooky that requires thinking though.

For immediate shock-value in-your-face-oh-god spoopy Sixth House has about everything beat. I'd least want to open a cabinet and have anything dagoth waiting inside where the bread should be.

Above all else, Nords are supposed to be North Germanics - mostly Scandinavians with minor visual motifs clearly inspired by Celtic iconography.

Without a doubt the basis for Skyrim was the epic poem Beowulf written by the Germanic Anglo-Saxon immigrants to Britain about a Nordic hero who slays two monsters harassing a mead hall and a dragon

Also the word "Germanic" is very deceptive and denotes far more than the ethnic Germans who live in modern day Germany.
