Pathfinder General /pfg/

Would you play a bimbo kitsune paladin addicted to harlot sweets as a PC, or take one as a cohort or waifu?

>THIS IS IMPORTANT!
If you want build advice make sure to say what 3pp you can use, if any.

I'm working on converting Paladin archetypes to the Antipaladin, mostly for shits and giggles, and in case anyone wants a cleaner Paladin-Antipaladin transition.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pl00apM9VDmhmLQZxzYJMmY6QLrLFhap3vH7bXnKtgg/edit

Currently, the Infernal Servant (Sacred Servant conversion) is done and I'm working on the Black-iron Knight (Knight Disciple conversion). Any other ideas?

>The fact that you're still arguing that clear mind, which is a shit rage power, is a better choice than reckless abandon.

>THe litch casts a spell at you, roll a will save
>The sorcerer yells at you that it is dominate person
>d20 -> 2
>uhh..CLEAR MIND ok got an 9
>TPK averted

Do you really think that the ability to re-roll a shit roll, that with your offensive power could easily result in a TPK, is a bad feat to take?
>>
>>50394698
It's mathematically equivalent to a +5 to a skill check per day.

>Would you play a bimbo kitsune paladin addicted to harlot sweets as a PC, or take one as a cohort or waifu?
No, I don't play stupid characters.
No, I never take paladins as cohorts.
No, I don't take stupid paladins for wives since my character would be the same sex and therefore the druggie paladin would be agaisnt same sex couplings because she doesn't have enough brains or wits to realize it might be okay.
>>

Why not a pretend bimbo who's just shape-shifted to try and get some attention?

On a related note. What's the best class for a Magical-Tail focused Kitsune?
>>
>>50394742
There's some hot sports opinions you got there, kiddo.
>>
>>50394726
Except this barbarian in particular is going to be in mythos games. Clear mind might just save his, and his parties life. We have this knowledge from the player.
>>
>>50394745
It's Jason Bourne!

But seriously, getting rerolls on saves is always a good thing. I'd take it to be honest.

>>
>>50394799
Except no, you aren't just rolling twice on one of your saves randomly.

You are re-rolling a shit roll that will cause a TPK.

>>50394851
The math is right. If you just rolled 2d20 and took the higher you are right.

But: you are rolling 1d20, waiting to fail, and then re-rolling it.

So it isn't higher of (1d20,1d20), its higher of (1d20 that results in a fail, 1d20)
>>
>>50394362 #

Hmm, my starting idea was an arcane bloodline, primalisr or id rager bloodrager. Do the extra powers make that big of a difference?

>>50394376 #
That is actually cool, but I was thinking a more facebashing and gutripping gnome. Definitely saving that for later tho.

Also, Paizo, y u no have risky striker for gnomes, goblins and all other batshit crazy small races?
>>
>>50394869
Then buy a cyclops helm instead. No need to spend class options on that.
>>
>>50394885
Clear Mind (Ex)

Prerequisite: Barbarian 8

Benefit: A barbarian may reroll a failed Will save. This power is used as an immediate action after the first save is attempted, but before the results are revealed by the GM. The barbarian must take the second result, even if it is worse.

Special: This power can only be used once per rage.

BEFORE THE RESULTS ARE SHOWN BOY!
>>
>>50394851
Easy.

You fail a roll. You now have the option of attempting to succeed at the roll. If the failed roll is inconsequential, you can seave the reroll. If the failed roll is a dominate or death spell, you get the opportunity to not kill your party or not die.

There is no statistical success value on a reroll that isn't random. It's pass/fail and cope, or fail/reroll if something horrible may happen. you get to choose the fail if it's not going to fuck you, or try again if it will.

Math isn't as important as being able to chose the option to potentially survive an untenable situation that you are definitely in. The slightly better attack rolls are not nearly as vital as SAVING YOUR ASS.
>>
>>50394899
...If your dm lets you buy that item then the correct choice is to buy 20 of them.

>>
>>50394912
>once per rage
>per rage
I thought it was once per day, holy shit that's so much better, especially considering you're one level away from rage cycling.

>before the results are shown
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out when you need a clutch roll.
>>
Is Powerless Prophesy (Oracle Curse) worth taking?
I'm trying to stack my Initiative really high and the +4 at level 5 seems tasty. Being staggered for the first round shouldn't matter since I'll spend the turn casting a spell as a Standard anyway, right?
>>
>>50394912
A low roll is a low roll, anon. If you're sixth level and you roll an 8, chances are good you're fucked.
>>
>>50394938
Being staggered the first round can get you killed, especially since if the first round is a surprise round, you may not get any action at all.
>>
Is there a handbook for Pathfinder in PDF form?

Are there any premade campaigns you'd suggest for first time players?
>>
>>50394938
>first round
>ally barbarian is a moron without clear mind and fails a will save against dominate person
>you are 15 feet away, with a protection from evil spell available

If you are staggered, you are fucked.
>>
>>50394918
Wouldn't going the route of beast totem (lesser and standard), reckless abandon and taking superstition is likely a better bet, seeing as superstition would give +3 to all saves vs spells, SLA, or Su effects

Fun as that sounds, I was actually considering something else; I had a vague idea, maybe, of a girl who was acutally a former kuthonite--not really raised in the church, but got swept along with a former boyfriend realized how, ah, dim she was. She didn't last long in the church there when the more dreadful things came to light, but it left it's mark on her and her libido; after seeing that I imagine she would have moved on to think while that whole thing's, kinda like neat and all, it's not really like, good to force it on people, so she's more going for the 'morally righteous bondage crusader' deal, because I think that's hilarious. Safe, Sane, Consensual and all that.

>>
>>50394983

What do you mean by handbook, a simplified guide to the mechanics?

As for premade campaigns, hmmm, I have heard good things of running Rise of the Runelords (anniversary) or Dragon's Demand. They are not perfect, but could be alright
>>
>>50395039
Keep reading. There isn't room. It's a great rage power, it just doesn't make the cut.

>>50395061
>clear spindle+wayfinder
If your DM allows that go for it.

>>50395072
...bait?

It's a competent tier 4, and if built to be shit at combat it could maybe possibly theoretically hit the bottom of tier 3 maybe for a little bit once in a while for rounds/day at most.
>>
>>50395063
It's fucking amazing, if you plan around it. In Strange Aeons? You might need it just to survive, which makes Clear Mind even more valuable to a Superstitious barbarian.
>>
>>50395072
Imagine if the Bard had to hit himself over the head at full force with a club to use bardic performance

Also the class is just designed poorly and really only has a few options that are genuinely good
>>

>>
>>50395072
Because it has some good things but the rest of the class actively drags it down.

It's not actually good at what it's supposed to be good at.
Also damn it don't mention kineticist while buildposter is on or he'll post his one incredibly specfic build example of a workable kineticist that doesn't even come online pre level 11

"of, resembling, or characteristic of a mother, especially in being caring, protective, and kind." So features that would make you trust her to guard the camp all night, or features that belong on a woman who'd cook dinner for the whole party badly of course
Of course she could have a savage look instead.

>you aren't just rolling twice on one of your saves randomly
If you're only going to reroll on saves you think will fail, that's the equivalent of a rough +5 bonus because you'll only roll it again when you roll low. If you roll high then the power isn't used anyway.
>>
>>50395145
My bad. You're even more of an idiot then.
>>
>>50395093
>a simplified guide to the mechanics

Yeah, exactly that. I'm going to be playing with some friends who are fairly new to the game and internet at their apartment is... spotty at best. I'd much rather just have a PDF or something available on my phone rather than printing something out or hoping their wifi is working.

>Rise of the Runelords (anniversary) or Dragon's Demand

I'll check them out, thanks a ton.
>>
>>50395086
>>50395109
Huh, I guess I'll take a closer look, then. I'm currently playing one and having a lot of fun, but maybe because my table is filled with terribly incompetent players, I was just kind of assuming it was because the Kineticist was a decent class.

I mean, I knew several of the most terrible options right off the bat, and Burn and related abilities are really counter- intuitive. I guess I'll take a deeper look into my character.
>>
>>50395160
I agree.
>>
>>50395166
I may be an idiot, but what does that have to so with this?
Everyone here is an idiot no offense guys [/spoiler ] anyway, Pathfinder is a horrible system
>>
>>50395160
There's no fucking comparison between the two. Skill checks don't generally end in potential death for everyone around you unless you're disarming traps.

A wizard, aboleth, or intellect devourer mind controlling your barbarian can end up killing everyone.
>>
>>50395192
Oh, it's definitely capable of being fun to play.
It's got cool flavor available, too.
It just doesn't get to do much in a party with, like, an Investigator, Barbarian and a Sorcerer or something like that.

>>
>>50395160
The math doesn't quite work out that way; the +5 stuff in 5e was worked out based on the percentage of passing a certain DC with or without advantage assuming you roll two dice at the same time.

If you roll a 2, the decision to reroll it is effectively a +8.
>>
>>50395070

That kinda sounds like an ex-kuthonite that embraced Arshea or Shelyn and utilizes bondage in her expressions of deific obedience, Zon-Kuthon isn't the sort to have Paladins!

Also isn't bondage a little dangerous for a sweetly dim, fairly impulsive young woman?
>>
>>50395281
Even with how much I love you?
>>
>>50395214
Well, we've got a Barbarian (new player), Unchained Monk (who took 6 rounds to beat up a pirate using full attacks each round) and a Cleric (who actually prepared healing spells)

And I feel like I'm carrying the entire party. I just wanted to know if it was the class, or my group.
>>
>>50395306
...
umm
...

You seem to be having a lot of fun, and that what really matters.
>>
>>50395145

Hmm, I'd suggest Osirion if you want a chesty brown-girl that fiercely protects her brood, or perhaps a tall Ulfen lass that knows all the ways to keep her young men warm at night.

This is a wildcard, but another is Varisian; she's a motherly gypsy woman with a really large extended family, and naturally connects with anyone she meets! Plus you'll have all those family members expecting her to either have kids or take care of the kids, further adding to her motherliness.
>>
>>50395290

That's half the fun! And yeah, she wasn't going to *still* be a Kuthonite; she has a strong moral center, but she thought all the bondage and piercings and stuff was just so cool and cute when done right! It's when it's done wrong when things are terrible and bad and as a paladin it's, like, her job to fight things that are terrible and bad! With, like, justice and love!

... Yeah, probably Arshea, I think. But what to put on the other side of the gestalt, hmm... Rubato Bard, maybe?
>>

Some of the newer archetypes and options help it but the base class was on the shit end of tier 5 when it came out. Might qualify as a bad t4 now if you stick to 1pp though. The original archetypes for them were exceptionally heinous, with the best example being Overwhelming Soul (a misnomer if there ever was one): Its entire schtick was that it "protects you" from taking burn.... BY FLATLY DISALLOWING YOU FROM DOING ANYTHING THAT WOULD GAIN IT
>Wait, couldn't I just do this normally myself?
>Of course, but you wouldn't be PAYING for it with class abilities!
>Hoo boy! I can't wait!

Now if you want a good one, it IS quite possible nowadays, but if you want T3 you need third party support. Kineticists of Porphyra, Legendary Kineticists, and the DSP Gambler and Avant Garde not only open up many very good new elements (time, light, sound, viscera, poison, and a few more), but also greatly expand especially on some of the worst ones.

The Gambler is practically no longer a kineticist at all it's just so different, BUT it's got some amazing infinite-manifesting potential balanced by the use of the action economy to fuel themselves, quite a bit of depth to that one. The Avant Garde creates an eidolon-like Astral Construct on top of being regular kineticists, and is highly recommended.

All in all, with 3pp you can make some seriously awesome kineticists, but that means "Gambler" is tier 3. Kineticist is still Tier 5 or low-low 4 on its own without all the extra wild talents, mutations and other goodies from 3pp, and well overwhelming soul... just. no.

Gestalt helps anything, really. After all you could boost it with rage or dex/con mutagens or something.

The spellslinger IS terrible in a lot of ways, but it has a lot of fun to it, and its interesting to take a wizard, a high tier character, and weaken them. I won't deny its worse but I also just.. Like it.

You don't know you "failed" a save until the DM imparts a negative effect onto you.

there's nothing wrong with picking a bad archetype as long as you are aware its a bad archetype.

You don't know you failed a save until the bad stuff happens, when the DM reveals the result.

"Failed" is a state within the game meaning that your roll + save is lower than the DC. You don't know you "failed" until the DM tells you.

Alright, let's indulge this little falsehood here.

What if someone else on your team has already been hit by it, and you know that 14 isn't enough? Unless they're flying by the seat of their pants and making up numbers on the fly - which no good GM will do - you can make educated guesses.

Furthermore, pick up some fucking knowledge skills if you don't want to metagame. And besides, it isn't too hard even for a layman to figure out how risky something is by visual factors alone.
>>
>>50396494
No, it didn't, I've been dealing with bullshit like this for months, the glass is about to break, I in fact want it to break so I can leave this shit.
>>
>>50396476
But then you're being told the results of your save.

Am I supposed to check every time if I can reroll or not? Obviously not, if he lets me it means I failed AND the DM revealed the results. If he stops me then I succeeded. Either way I'm unable to reroll.
>>
>>50396476
Yes, but the point he's arguing is that YOU don't 'know' for sure.

You can heavily suspect as hard as you like, but you don't KNOW you failed until the DM declares you failed.

It's saying 'when you fail but before results are revealed'

UNLESS 'results are revealed' is in fact in reference to the CONSEQUENCES of failing that roll, but that's another can of worms.
>>
>>50396377
So imagine you roll a 3 with a bonus of +10, can you immediately say whether or not you have failed your save?

No. The DC is static. It's set before the roll. The roll just confirms whether or not your meeting or beating that DC. The state becomes set as soon as the die stops moving because you already have your bonuses ready. Then it's declared when the DM gets around to telling people the results that had already been set in stone.

As far as 3PP; all DSP stuff is worth allowing. I'm not super into spheres but I understand a lot of people are, so it might be worth allowing, too; anything else case by case, it never hurts to loiok at 3PP anyway. As far as races, in Numeria pretty much anything goes, including wierd stuff; just don't allow anything over 20 RP and you should be fine. Optional rules, I find the feat taxes in here http://michaeliantorno.com/feat-taxes-in-pathfinder/ are good ideas to follow thorugh on; other than that, background skills are heavenly for letting characters get more skill points to spend on flavorful stuff.
>>
>>50396822
I'd recommend allowing DSP stuff - I have no opinion on SoP because I haven't looked into it (I'm one of those weirdos that likes vancian casting)

Races, you should probably just allow on a case-by-case basis. People will apply with what they want, and you can deny the ones that fall outside of what you'd like to go for.

The sad thing there are some simple ways of fixing it.
First give it 4+Int skill points instead, and instead of locking armor and weapon abilities behind specific armorist tricks, instead make it so you can take a single trick that can grant any 5 armor or weapon special qualities.
Then, give it tricks that allows you to attune your Bound equipment to a specific Sphere, either granting or enhancing it.
Now its slightly less butts

If I had gone with the rolled age, Svana would have been 16. I decided to make her 21 instead, because a busty, motherly 16 year old isn't a very nice image IMO Just write about her family, what terms they're on, her friends, her education and/or training, where she's from, why she left, etc. I'd suggest making her 20 or so though aren't there a whole bunch of people in their late twenties through mid thirties anyway?

Cinnamon buns are soft, delicious and warm. Cinnamon buns are pure, too pure for this poisoned world, and because of that they are worth jealously guarding from the horrors that await them should they venture forth uncarefully.

It's a joke started by an Onion article.

>Finding some usable art for her is going to take me quite a bit of work

How's this, senpai? If you want the eye or hair color changed just ask in the Drawthreads, edits like that take no time for the people there.

Or just don't have an over stuffed backstory that will be boring to read.

Yeah, unless you're level 1 dealing with level 1 things, it's pretty much a certain fail.

There's a tiny handful of things like level 1 spells on someone with bad stats that could have a 12 or 13 dc, and the weakest special effect save in the game is the DC 14 on the beam cannon AoEs (despite how expensive they are, because fuck you said paizo, fuck you and everyone you love) so if you roll a 3 and have +10 it would be extremely surprising if that was anything but a fail.

You're too used to JRPGs.

Back when all the computator roleplay games were all on the scantrons, your character's age would just be the fifth and sixth cards that we'd slipped in between the weather formulae.

We didn't have time to slip a third - or c7 as we called it - in there because of the war, so we had to improvise. Rogers who was your grandfather's younger friend from Cornwall - the Canada Cornwall not the British Cornwall, because Canada was starting to be its own separate country at the time - designing a flag and everything, interesting part, that. They use bright red as if it were all excited and special but it's just the water, and in the middle there's a maple leaf, because they have a lot of maples there you know. They didn't use geese because of the war. Anyways, there was this huge argument about exactly what size the flag should be, and that was when old man Pearson - well he was just Lester at the time, but we called him Mike, because of the war. Lester wasn't a good name for an airman - that was in Brittan you know - we'd go all the way over there because the Elizabeth had just become our queen, so they had him changed to mike, like the onion he was wearing 'round his belt. We were the lucky ones that had the red onions; they only gave the yellow onions to civilians because of the war. When I used to grow onions my pappy - that's your grandpappy you know, he'd tell me to make sure the temperature doesn't fall under twenty cent-eye grades. I'd only finished third grade, so twenty was definitely a lot better instructed than I was. My teacher was Miss Tabernacky; she quit her job to become Mrs... uh, Mrs.Jones I think. With George Jones. George was one of the mechanics on the Canadian National back when it was still taking some passengers, and you'd get the hobos - train pigeons we'd call them - riding on the tracks sometimes if we couldn't shoo them off. The tracks used some impressive wooden beams; Hard to do nowadays without those fa~

I've been meaning to try whittling mine down to the bare essentials and making it more like that, since it's kind of pointless for me to have 4 paragraphs that amount to this wild animal picked up a sword, thought humans were rad as fuck, and spent a few decades trying to figure out how to pretend to be one of them.
