You know what? I like this FAQ, makes power fists and dreadnoughts have a place in the game instead of getting glanced to death in one round.

>Q: Do plasma cannons and other Gets Hot Blast weapons benefit from rules that allow them to re-roll To Hit rolls of 1? For example, a Clan Raukaan character wearing the Tempered Helm nominates a unit of friendly Devastators to re-roll To Hit rolls of 1 in this Shooting phase. These Devastators are all equipped with plasma cannons. Do they get to re-roll the Gets Hot roll if it comes up as 1?
A: Yes.

Good to know that prefered enemy still works on gets hot! rolls.

[Lorgar]
I can't lead, I'm not qualified
He told me He won't be deified
We were disgraced by the Ultramarines
[Kor Phareon]
Lorgar, what are you talking about?!
The Emprah forced us to our knees
But religion is a need
We'd better seek some gods other than him
[Lorgar]
Other than him? Other than him? Other than him?
[Khor Phareon]
Chaos gods!
[Lorgar]
I shall look for some gods
Tread where mortals have not trod
I will be enlightened, I'll surpass Guilliman
Need an object of devotion
Need a subject for psalms
[Kor Phareon]
It's a rather touching notion,
all those prayers and those salaams.
[Lorgar]
And who am I to bridle
if I'm chosen as their champion?
If they say that I'm their man, that's what I am.
What's more, if we don't comply
with the chaos gods' wishes,
I can see us being sacrificed or cursed.
[Kor Phareon]
You have a point, yes, that's very good thinking.
So! Let's seek gods!
The perks are great.
Emprah gone without a trace!
The Word Bearers should not be rebuffed.
[Lorgar]
Never rebuff, never rebuff Word Bearers' prayers, no Father!
[Lorgar and Kor]
We'll seek old Colchis' gods
but we should get some Primarch's nods,
"Count your blessings,
corrupt Horus",
that's their advice.
[Lorgar]
It's great advice!
[Lorgar and Kor]
Steal the Kinebranch Athame
[Kor Phareon]
And wound Horus!
[Lorgar and Kor]
Form a cult!
Fight on Davin,
and make his legion
take him to the Serpent's Lodge.
[Kor Phareon]
Don a supernatural habit
[Lorgar]
We'd be crazy not to grab it!
[Lorgar and Kor]
So sign on our legion for heresy...he-re-sy!

Cult helot meat shields sounds amazing.

All in all Spartans did care about freedom as long as it was theirs.

The FAQ said you can only use 1 per assault phase. WHich if it were an errata would have been fine, but then they quoted the BRB blurb about THROWING a grenade; despite the BRB going out of its way TWICE to tell you that using grenades in assault is NOT throwing that it is clamping as a MELEE weapon.(p180)

They quoted their own wrong rule and made it an incorrect FAQ instead of an errata.

Does POTL only really work if you max out on Terminators and Vets, at the expense of things like artillery and tanks?

It seems if I only pick 2 vets that it's really easy to lose those VPs
>>
>>50353160
>It seems if I only pick 2 vets that it's really easy to lose those VPs
Depending on your points range you should consider other rites. Example, the Delegatus' Chosen duty, Primarch's chosen, Maloghurst and the Reaping all turn Vets into troops, with verying provisions.
>>
>>50353160
>Does POTL only really work if you max out on Terminators and Vets, at the expense of things like artillery and tanks?

I got no idea what you're talking about, Veterans in rhinos are cheap enough that you can have other things. Terminators on the other hand work best if you bring tons of them, they are expensive and limiting but that has nothing to do with PotL.
>>
>>50353127
>>50353155
Really we should just start using house ruled point reduced destroyers so FW get the hint.

I mean vet tac pricing and like 50points for packs makes them decent, not great, but you dont hate yourself for taking them
>>
>>50353160
Unless SW get some RoW that lets Vets or Terminators be Troops, I'll have to use PoTL to make room in my Elites. Damn my love of terminators and dreadnoughts!
>>
>>50353238
Play fury of the ancients

Dreads as troops, termies as elites, shit'll be hardcore
>>
Are there origins of Big E in Master of Mankind? And something about him when he was young?
>>
>>50353214
If your enemy kills all your vets/terminators, they score extra points. So taking that two vet squad Troop tax and stocking up on other units means they're easier to get wiped out and giving your opponent more points. So anon is clearly asking if the counter to such a thing is to take a lot of vets/terminators.
>>
>>50353264
Forge Lord and Primus Medicae tax, though. I ain't got the characters.
>>
>>50353160

Yeah pretty much

My go to is that I have 25 terminators on the table plus DT and HQ and if you kill them all, I'm probably done anyway.
>>
>>50353155
>>50353220

Well, the Word Bearers variant are working a lot better.
>>
>>50353301
And that's not even talking about auto-losing seizing the initiative, inability to take fortifications and each destroyed dreadnought giving the opponent victory points.
>>
>>50353286
But why is he using PotL to just use two Tac Vets as tax? That sounds weird, you could be using any other RoW and still have two scoring Tac Vets, the point of the rite is to open up your elite slots and have a deadly troop choice in Tac Vets/Terminators and even if you take 40 Vets you still have enough points for other stuff.

It seems like too much worry for nothing.
>>
Retcon time: tell me how you like it

There is only 1 lost legion now that still has the same mysterious circumstances of its censure

The other legion is now revealed to have been a loyalist legion that was present at the dropsite massacre and was completely annihilated to the last man, primarch and all.

Any remaining legionnaires either integrated with surviving legions or became blackshields. By the 41st millennium very few outside the astartes and higher positions of the Imperium know anything about them.
>>
>>50353483
Shit/10, takes away from the other Istvaan legions and adds nothing while taking away mystery from the setting.
>>
>>50353512

Considering that's essentially the Astral Claws backstory anyway, it's not all that bad.

And I think it highlights the tragedy of the loyalists at Isstvan more than just Ferrus dying
>>
>>50353483
>killed to the last man
>any remaining legionnaires

what?
>>
>>50353539
>Considering that's essentially the Astral Claws backstory anyway

How? The Astral Claws story is a cautionary tale about not paying your taxes, it has nothing to do with being annihilated by traitors.

Presumably the men present were killed to the last man and any marines not present went rogue
>>
>>50353658
No he hasn't.
You're thinking of Ollanius 'Pius' Persson, who is the real person the story of Saint Ollanius Pius that the church made up to embolden dog troopers to walk into certain death, is based on.
>>
>>50353658
I assume Anon means "not a perpetual." I don't think perpetuals are a good addition to the story, but they've been in the fluff for ages.
>>
>>50353385
I didn't mean I would ONLY use 2 Vets. What I said was that you need to max out your troops, which ARE more expensive than your usual tac tax, and maximise it otherwise POTL just doesn't feel worth it.

At lower points, POTL means you forgo artillery and tanks for dudes because otherwise you lose dudes and VPs too quickly otherwise.
>>

>>
>>50353779
Nah, that's not what I was getting at.
Pius only existed as a motivational Saint who was said, thousands of years later, to have been at Guardsman who got inbetween Horus and the Emperor at the Imperial Palace.
In Bill King's fluff it was a Terminator aboard Horus' battle barge.
In Visions of Heresy it was a Custode.
In BL it's gonna be Ollanius Pius, on the Vengeful Spirit, for technically the first time.
BL's actually making it 'canon', it's just that making him a Perpetual devalues the story of the Saint. Which is actually fine because the story of the Saint is a church legend told to make Guardsmen walk into enemy gunfire. It's more 40K to have the truth be twisted by the church for grimdark purposes.

At that points level, I feel a sicaran venator could be a really useful addition, to stop enemy vehicles shooting as much as to kill things. At 3k there's a decent chance of a superheavy tank on the other side of the table, and you do NOT want a typhon firing at your expensive jetbikes.

How you would fund this is up to you however.

Both! It's a comparison between a single claw attack and two volkite shots, which I'm now realizing I got wrong because Volkite chargers are S5. This is the corrected version.

As (You) can see, the difference between dual claws and Volkite + Claw is minimal (in melee you could kill some marines before actually making contact), and against Terminators is actually detrimental. Tartaros would be able to overwatch, but Cataphractii don't care about that.

His prose is awful, everytime I read him I feel like Im slogging through mud, everything's slow and nothing ever happens or catches my attention and the characters seem to just be there, like they're painted instead of being part of the narrative. Even the action is boring.
>>
>>50356885
'That bad' depends on your personal tolerance for a predictable, limited and excitement-free writing style. Most authors have their 'things', but Kyme's are generally
>overuse of a specific set of metaphors, imagery and phrases. Like, serious overuse. I hope you like hearing about fire, the colour red, and smithing terminology
>leaden plots
>intellectually slow and boring characters
>taking characters or styles other, better writers introduced and then doing them markedly worse, in the main
>self-conscious attempts to do 'cool' and/or use new models
>maximum seriousness and false drama

His biggest pro is that his work isn't offensive, and as a company man, he rarely does anything that could be said to cause issues in terms of canon, tone or theme.

What's harder for a beginner, 40k or HH? I like the setting o HH more, but it seems different than other warhammers
>>
>>50359709
Both games use the same main rulebook. Biggest difference is the way army composition works and the missions.

HH is generally more expensive but less open to abuse.
40k depends entirely on your local community. It can range from a group of fine gentlemen that are very considerate of their opponent's army strength with their armylists which enables a splendid game experience, to a group of immature man-children compensating for their insecurities with WAAC-fagging everything and throwing their money around to always have the latest steaming hot cheese to grind opponents into a fine mulch so fast and brutally it leaves you wondering if you just got raped. And then you find out your tires are slashed for good measure.
>>
>>50359641
You could go all heavy mech one day, so his darkfires and Thanatars glance on sixes. Or borrow someones Death Guard for Morty and his ID scythe. But yeah, the average mechanicum is bullshit
>>
>>50359768
What other merits does HH have??
>>
>>50357469
>Alan Merrett said Omegon always existed back, we just didn't get told for that long, I dunno man...
Didn't Abnett also say he made that up as part of his list of wacky things to put into Legion?
>>
>>50359768
HH is more balanced by dint of everyone(mostly) being on a level playing field in terms of power and availability of powerful units, as well as being more fluff-friendly for the most part.
>>50359902
if thats true, thats fucking hilarious and makes me like abnett even more

Traitor Legions have rules and aren't absolute shit.

DA/BA/SW aren't all about one concept spammed a thousand times.

Sniper Vets are almost literally the unit I always wanted to play.

I forget where I read it, but apparently when he pitched his plan for Legion he wrote up a list full of crazy shit to do figuring they'd reject most of his plans and he'd work from what they left him.

Instead they pretty much okayed the whole list.

redpill me on the night lords
if i'm used to playing a slow, tough legion(iron hands and mechanicum allies occasionally), would they be a good second army to learn?
>>
>>50360248
I guess. T B H, they're no faster than any other, they're more of a CC nastyness and Fear-abusing force.Raven Guard, Sons of Horus, emperors children and White Scars are equally the gottagofast legions.
>>
>>50360291

Don't forget BA and their 'all your jump units deep strike T1' RoW.
>>
>>50360333
>>50360291
i'm not necessarily looking for something thats super gottagofast, but a change from my guys refusing to run or cut enemies down would be nice, and from what i've heard NL have a pretty good deepstrike game?

>>50360341
They're decent at it, but the only real benefit they get is with their termies. Sons of Horus or Blood Angels, or even termiewing IW, seem more your cup of tea

I think you'll find them very interesting. Not only do they lack the IW's immunity to breaking under fire, they can actually choose to fall back by auto-failing a pinning test. That'll add a new dimension to you game. And they fall back further. So yeah, you'll be moving a lot more than you currently are.

That expanded movement is still easier to adjust to than those gottagofast armies, because NL's extra movement only requires thinking a turn ahead or two. Scars need to have the next few turns planned out.

And you need to protect your warlord like crazy.

Usually if you run the Terror Assault RoW you end up using drop pods (and teleporting termies). Don't forget jetbikes can deep strike too. Your one heavy slot should be a flyer, like a Fire Raptor. With other RoWs you might not need the pods and just count on infiltrate.
>>
>>50360638
i assume the terror squads should all get volkite chargers and probably pods, or just infiltrate? i'm trying to figure out how to handle spartans and the like and right now all i can think of is machine-killer vets with combimeltas when i'm limited to a single HS
>>
>>50360638
heresy era doomrider wen?
>>
>>50360652
I use three infiltrating terror squads with volkite, sargeants and meltabombs, a big assault blob with Batman and a Chaplain, and a drill/lance leviathan in a pod at 2k, at higher points i add in a pair of cortus dreads and some apothecaries. It struggles against some things, like multiple heavy transport lists, but single spartans, superheavies and Knights can be popped by the end of turn 2, and batman either feasts on their pitiful deathstar or, if its too tough for him to handle, they fly off and lead the enemy on a wild goose chase. If you dislike using Night Haunter, replace him and the dread in a pod with a Knight and you've got a list thats probably better all-around, i just like to use him.

Hey guys, I have a question about Heralds.

They have the support officer rule which means they can not be your compulsory HQ choice, but also rite of command which means they need to be the warlord but gives them acess to rites.

This means they turn everyone into Word Bearers regarding the need of at least two HQ guys...right?
>>

Nah Rylanor practically guarenteed died at Istvann when Horus nuked the place for good measure. The only way he got out of there is when he happend to have some latent psychic ability and teleported away to a sunny beach, to wait out the rest of the heresy.

Would it be possible to play a fast Mechanicum army?
Use lots of Thallax, Vorax outflanking, Arlatax and aircraft. Add in some Ordo Reductor Triaros and Vindicators with Machine Spirit to carry your Myrmidons and you could be deceptively speedy for such a heavy army.
>>
I've been working on ideas for a Traitor Mechanicum army, and I do want to use some of the HH6 things without models. Are there unwritten rules for scaling them and such, or can I go a bit nuts with the bitz box?

Was planning on converting Scoria first, and then making the Homonculex out of a Dark Eldar Talos pain engine.
>>
>Iron Warriors are bitter that they don't get as much recognition as other legions, like the Imperial Fists
>HH Book 3 contains three Exemplary Battles for the Fists
>same book only contains a single Exemplary Battle for the Iron Warriors
Kek.
>>
>>50361774
Definitely possible. Your tanks are pretty good and you have jetpack infantry out the wazoo. Now that Vorax can't be krak'd to death, they're substantially tougher too. For Homonculex, maybe make a jetpack Domitar? The model is great but the rules are thanatar-cynis tier, so giving it a reason to exist would be great.

Bringing an allied mechanicum force with some Thallax and a magos+six Vorax is a thing i'm going to do with my Night Lords eventually, i've always like the idea of terrifying murderbots working with terrifying murder-marines. Or maybe i'll just bring a Praevian for starters
>>
>>50361774
This is what I plan to do when I start Mechanicum. Fast Reductor.
>>
>>50361774
>moderately-kitted magi and pile of vorax
>two lots of six thallax
>two big units of thralls in pain trains
>two jets of preference
>two units of two siege vindicators, Krios or your preferred tank of choice
Adds up to around 2.5k, add a Knight or drop something to free enough points for a Warhound for the jump to 3k

>>
>>50361902
Yeah, that might work. I'd have to switch the weapons out of lightning claws, plus maybe add some extra parts here and there to make it clear they are different models. Shouldn't be too difficult.
I also really like the "robots count as 3 for A Talent for Murder" rule that makes is a lot more balanced allied with and/or fighting Night Lords.

>>50361955

I was planning on instead of putting the Thralls in Triaros, buying a unit of Grav-myrmidons and loading them up. That way I still have 40 bodies for backfield objectives, and the Myrmidons make an excellent surgical tool to remove irritating Primarch deathstar units.
Drop the Thralls to 3 each, use 2 Krios Venator and 2 Vindicators or Medusae, add 2 Lightning fighters (proxies are Hellblade fighters, because Xana II).

Instead of Vorax for the Reductor Magos, give him a Graviton Imploder and put him with the Myrmidons, and ally the Vorax in with Scoria and a unit of Castellax for Cybernetica, so you can Outflank in a Primarch, essentially. That also gives you an I+1 Arlatax, which takes you to 3k fairly neatly.

Also, that force should look awesome lined up, which is always nice.

I think he was asking for conversion so the codex gets formated clean like the Age of Darkness Army List, instead of the pdf version that currently exists.
But I can't convert it.
>>
>>50362620
In rapid fire range, they do, lets see, around sixteen hits, of which all ~2.8 wounds are rends, so lets say that a unit thats standing in charge range of the murderbots can do two wounds after invuln saves. At a distance, thats one wound. There is a minimum of four of these dudes, each with four wounds, sitting around. The IFs will get torn apart by their bolt cannons at range, and if the castellax get into contact the rank and file will be essentially useless and a fist sarge can't carry the entire squad. This is discounting whatever the Mech guy had in addition to his magos and four castellax with his other 350 odd points. Even your wallhugging expertise cannot save you from the deathbots
>>
>>50362731

Your math is awful.
>>
>>50362731
5 Pfist Termies are cheaper than 2 Castellax, so if they get the charge I think they'll be alright, as they'll only lose 5/6 dudes in melee while one of the Castellax dies. This is regular Cataphractii, without Stormshields.
>>
>>50362752
enlighten me. The squads have twenty shots, hit on 2s, rend on sixes and the castellax have 5++ saves. while i lack a calculator
>>50362794
thats right, termies probably would be a better investment than snipers, but i cant be bothered to mathammer out the averages for fists. Still, 2+4++ is way better simply because they can't be mauler'd and killed on 2s from a distance, and have a much, much better chance to survive and do damage in melee with their invuln
>>
>>50362828

They wound on 4's, rend on 6's. You forgot the extra 5.55 armor saves.

Bad math.
>>
>>50361963

Not too tricky - prime grey, paint Vallejo Sky Grey, wash with Army Painter Strong and Dark tones, drybrush with mixes of Sky Grey, Tan Earth, and White, going for a lighter tone towards the edges (darker underneath where the model will sit). Finish off with some limestone dust pigment.
>>
>>50362620
Surprisingly, white scars and ultramarines actually do slightly better than the fists (and close-range SOH) providing they can activate their LA buff.
>>
>>50362828
>but i cant be bothered to mathammer out the averages for fists
...but I already did. You think I make claims without doing the math first?!

>Castellax
4(1/2)(5/6)(1/2) = 5/6

oh yeah, sniper, not rending. My bad. Still, thats one dead castellax when shooting from close range, and the other one is within charge range, while its gun is able to kill ~2 marines per turn. If they can get in shooting range with both of them alive, they essentially halve the effectiveness of the enemy unit. Basically, unless you expressly build just to kill castellax you're gonna lose against a cybernetica list.
>>
>>50362972
>Sniper vets vs castellax

Yeah, don't let people meme you. Sniper vets are decent but not Mechanicum killers. Dreadnoughts are what they fear. With armor 13 in the front, the only thing a castellax can do is try to smash it. Nothing else will scratch it.

There was a guy on Dakka who converted a Dark Mechanicum Army out of Dark Eldar parts, Dinobots, Heldrakes and Necron Wraiths. Ended up looking really good. I think he ran it as a normal chaos army.

>>
>>50364036
I did see that one, but it's a bit beyond my skills and I want my 30k DarkMech to be more similar to their loyalist counterparts so I can run them as both, save the Traitor only aspects like Scoria and his Homonculex. If I make 40k DarkMech ever I will probably add some more chaos parts.
Xana II forces assisted the Great Crusade a few times in the lore, so I can paint my army up that way. Looks cool as well.

My Scoria will be a mishmash of Admech, Mechanicum and some Necron parts, and I'm not sure what to do for the Homonculex.

That demon prince conversion would make a great Homonculex in my opinion. It's about as simple as conversions get once you have the parts. Just play around with blue tac till you get it how you like it.
