A General Huzzah for finally being united as a General again!

Nice stripes, weathering looks really nice on them.

Looking into trying something like that for my Xana aircraft (lightning or hellblade using Lightning rules) so I can have a stripe on the wings with the Forge World sigil inside.

For the DA fans and SH fans in general, official gameplay preview for Deathwing.
Apparently geneseed from the Heresy era is on board, and genestealers have been using it so the DA rush in to take it.

Also, the devs have already annouced that the voice messages happening so often were a bug and that they're working on a voice distorsion/vox-link effect fix/making them deeper, lower. So no worries about that.

I for one, am really hype for this. Open beta normally at the end of next week, release date is 9th of december.

>Actually, do we know why the IW attacked the WB in your pics?
The IW thought their allies could ride the Ironfire. They were hilariously wrong.
>>
>>50296398
They were too close to the enemy.
>>
>>50296437
Technically, yes but not really.

UM were the first ones to start the whole thing with Apothecaries. Some of them were completely white barring a pauldron or a few other things, but even in the UM it was not the whole armor that was white most of the time.
Basically do whatever you want.
>>
>>50296171
If the Hellblade had stats of its own, I'd have a problem with it. But it doesn't so I don't, and playing a Xana II army is the best possible reason for running that model.

Lightnings are standard in Spartan-heavy metas; few things are more effective against those beasts. Against armies without Spartans, I'd say they're reasonably priced and shouldn't upset anybody too badly.
>>
>>50296398

>mk3 squad came in the mail
Shit, this is a good kit. I don't want to paint another full space marine army, ma, but I might have to.
>>
>>50296437
>>50296469
how triggered would people be if I made my own apothecaries by using the prospero tartaros chainfist attachments and gluing them to mk3 forearms? I really don't feel like using the standard monopose forgeworld ones.
>>
What kind of changes in rules/units/rites do you expect/want as we get closer to the Siege? Will Demon Horus be able to defeat Sang in combat?
>>
>>50296526
Don't forget the other bitz like lights, flasks, hoses and such.
>>
>>50296479
Thought so, but always nice to get a second opinion. Much obliged.

There might be a couple of Spartans and definitely some Land Raiders, but it's main job is to explode any uppity Storm Eagles, then blast any artillery or irritating vehicles, since Mechanicum is about as short-ranged as they get in the Heresy.

Not trying to be too optimal, I just thought it would be nice versatile AA option and also an excuse to use a damn cool model. Essentially everything my army needs.
>>
>>50296526
Not a lot, but you're better off getting a narthecium, apothecary shoulder pad and backpack, or very simply a complete apothecary from the command squad kit for 40k and taking the apothecary bitz to make your own.
Yours will just look ugly and missing almost everything on his narthecium and indeed everything else that makes it an apothecary
>>
>>50296437
I like them completely white+red with the Legion colour shoulder because the whole army is rather monotonous and it is always nice to have a little snow flake.
Especially in my army, which is black (and has no official paint scheme yet).
>>
>>50296545
Demon Horus is gonna be Emperor-tier unit, like 1000pts and absolutely unbeatable except by the Emperor or a Warlord.

Emperor's Champion Sigismund is going to be a LoW, if it was up to me I'd give him a rerollable 3++ in close combat and able to accept all the challenges while giving every loyalist either Preferred Enemy or some other buff similar to Emperor's Champion vows.

>>50296811
He's tough enough he could tank plasma shots with his Barbaran abs.
(2/3)(1/2)(1/2) = (1/6)
This means your vet is as likely to wound Mortarion as he is of rolling a Gets Hot. Granted, he's still got his save, but 42 plasma shots isn't great odds.

He's a sneaky git. He's also as fast as Corax and Curze at covering ground, moving reliably 16" per turn compared to their 12" + Fleet Run. And we have accounts about him moving faster than what the eye can follow, while carrying a massive scythe.

>Needing a reason
Pick one.
>>
>>50297015
I have the same issue Anon, but luckily enough for me my padless marines are MkIV and a slightly lighter color than my padded MkIII marines, help differentiate them.
My suggestion is to paint any new models /slightly/ differently, and just say it is different production runs of armor.

By different it could mean-
Changing which shoulders have what color
Changing which knees have what symbols
Going slightly darker for a grittier look
Going lighter for a sun bleached/ worn look
Doing dirtier for an older look
Going cleaner for a newer look.

Things that are all fairly lore friendly for a legion, and can also help your models stand out besides just the pads.

Maybe even just have pads for veterans and sergeants?
>>
>>50297015
I admit I play Alphas so I tend to keep my marines low key, but my rule is one special part per marine. So if they get one of the resin helmets they don't get a legion shoulder pad.

So I'd say you're fine just intermix some with the legion shoulder pad when you sort them into squads.

Sanguinius is the star player. I think he's too detached to really be the captain, but he is the substitute captain after Ferrus got himself injured. The Khan is the winger forced to play defense but refusing to do so. Russ slide tackles his opponents hoping to hurt them, and doesn't accomplish much else.

Alpharius has been bribed to blow the game but no one knows if he's on the field or if it's his twin who doesn't accept bribes.

/hhg/, I would like some opinions. I'm looking at getting a Betrayal at Calth set, and later on Burning of Prospero. However, I'm not sure what Legion I want to paint. I've always been fond of the Salamanders, though with the release of Horus Heresy content I've been also considering Emperor's Children, Alpha Legion, early Dark Angels, or perhaps even Iron Warriors (Prospero first in that case). Suggestions/opinions would be nice, and paint jobs would be spectacular.

I'm actually impressed! And I really like that they're using Tartaros terminator armor.

This will be a big change for HH... TS players will inevitably want to use these kits in 30k. Why not? FW's legion-specific Contemptor model had the same headgear, so we know that it wasn't only a post-rubric decoration.
>>
>>50297859
Yeah. I've been looking over these (and the power armour rubicae) for tzeentch iconography and there really doesn't seem to be that much actually sculpted on. I think using those two boxes as pre-rubic TSons should be pretty legit.
>>
>>50297870
>And I really like that they're using Tartaros terminator armor.

>>50296380
Jesus that writing is terrible
>>
>>50297897
I think it's intentional. It makes perfect sense from a marketing perspective. Plus what symbolism there is looks like the prospero cults.
>>
>>50297824
There's a bit of Iron Warriors fatigue here, and I think they're a little less interesting to play, too. (Lots of ranged shooting, no morale checks for taking shooting casualties - morale is a bigger part of 30k than 40k.)

Dark Angels don't look very interesting right now unless you love Land Raiders and dull paint schemes, but they should be fully fleshed out in about a year (book 8).

Emperor's Children are probably the weakest of the legions, rules-wise. It's a small difference since they're all Space Marines, but they're the finesse army. Their special rules really require them to get the charge. They're also less likely to use Mk III armor and Cataphractii. On the plus side, their Maru Skara rite of war lets a lot of them outflank - that means you can get away without buying transports.

Salamanders and Alpha Legion are both good choices. The Salamanders have great special units, Vulkan's hard as an anvil, but they are slow. They'll need transports or drop pods. Ryan Kimmel (Radio Free Isstvan podcast) plays them using the Orbital Assault rite of war, and he's probably the most rules-savvy of the podcasters. Feel free to email him for list advice once you have a draft.

Alpha Legion need three troops choices if you run their legion-specific RoW (the good one - don't try Headhunter Leviathal) but you'll have that with the plastic boxes. They're a good choice if you aren't going to buy drop pods or vehicles because they get positioning/movement bonuses.

OK, so after quite a lot of reading about Xana II, I still can't figure out how to paint them "officially", so I thought id use both common schemes, with more red and brass replacing light brown as the importance of the individual increases.

Robots, vehicles and Knights will be variations on House Malinax colours, so basic armour colour is Zandri Dust with various washes and highlights, with some blood red to break it up a bit.

Thing is, the only scheme recipes I have found require airbrushes to do well. Can you get a good armour panel without one, or will the differences between layers be too apparent? Never used one and don't particularly want to spend the money just to do my few big bots and Knights.
>>

Are there any cases within the Astertes Legions of companies or chapters having alternative color schemes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy?

Wanting to go White Scars, but I dread the idea of painting a predominantly white army.

Definitely, Primes have high WS and an invuln in CC, cortus' get antomatic overcharge, pretty deadly desu.

Yes, IIRC in First Heretic the chapter Logar sent into the Eye already had the red paint scheme, while most of the legion had the light gray

I think the new book is Age of Darkness Army List.
Contemptor Prime costs 175pts, Cortus is a budget 135pts version that pretty much made the boxnought obsolete, and has extra rules for close combat, like I5, at the cost of risk of self damage. Link is in the OP
>>
>>50299470
Crusade list and Isstvaan books are outdated now, you gotta get the new redbooks

Primes are just regular contemptors, cortus' are new versions of contemptors that came out in book 6, still use regular contemptor models though

They have 1 lower BS and WS, their invuln only works against shooting and blast attacks and is only on their front arc. But to compensate, their 40pts cheaper, and get Antomantic overchage, where they can pick from +1I, rage, +1 run and charge distance, or +1 movement I think, but they have to roll a D6 at the end of the turn and if they roll a 1 the lose 1HP. They're pretty good desu.
>>
>>50299426
Some do, usually they aren't that different, WS don't have any yet but I'm guessing they'll get cool camoflauge schemes when their book comes out

But like cmon man WS are known for their sexy colour scheme, and it's not even that hard to paint after practicing a bit.

It IS pretty neato, although I'll likely go with the standard Mark IV instead of the special legion helms. I get the joke, but I'm not really savvy with it. That, and I just prefer the standard Mark IV helmets.

I may even just stick with the white, but I've seen a few people struggle with it in the past, which has kept me from using it.

The age of darkness has the rules for basic units in it, it's the updated version of the LACAL. Lot's of units got repriced, assaults, tacticals, veterans, and seekers are much cheaper now, breachers still suck dick.

It's also got the rules for all the new models that have come out since the LACAL, like the leviathan, deredeo, and the -claw drop pods

The other red book has all the legion rules in it, AL got their new headhunter leviathal rite, headhunters got nerfed, and I think lerneans are a bit cheaper as well.

>>
>>50300162

Everything eventually fits with chapter fluff since everyone was getting balls to the wall desperate towards the end of the heresy.

>>50300178

AL is extremely calculative and uses min-max strategy with maximum emphasis on overwhelming firepower, and as such leans towards heavy armor blitzes with appropriate support elements firstly and messy melees lastly.

>>50300196

Lore wise, Cortus was a creation of need in an era where everyone was running out of everything. AL needed heavy armor and siegebreakers like everybody else towards the end of the heresy, and recycled contemptors fits this reality perfectly - moreso that recycled contemptors be fitted with power weapons and overtuned to the max to get every bit of use out of it.

I'm tired, anon. Have something I wrote long ago. I mean, you're picking them because you want to be different, so it's not like you're picky or something.

>The Salamanders come to the battlefield on their best shape ever since Istvaan. Forgeworld has done honour to their fluff and, rather than 40k's pyromaniacs with MCd toys, their main themes are endurance and some of the best Legion-specific wargear available...along with their usual heat-based weapons.

>Endurance in they way of holding the line with their noticeable morale buffs and being outright immune to Fear. Also, they are one of the two legions that can field TH/SS Terminators, taken to the extreme with the Firedrakes, as well as having access to the only EW-gear that isn't a relic. But wait, there's more. They have some of the most resilient vehicles and walkers in the game, tied perhaps with the Iron Hands - one of their characters being the most resilient Dreadnought ever. And they are the friendliest force in the Horus Heresy, with nine Sworn Brothers, only three Distrusted Allies, and 0 "By the Emperor's Command's", Salamanders have a rich gamut of supplement options. Nifty Palatine Blades and 'Scars Bikers? BS5 bolter fire to complement the Flamestorm? Disposable militia bodies to buy space for your Deathstar Firedrakes? All possible with Warlord traits, joined characters and Psychic powers thrown in the mix.

>All of that while keeping the best flamers and meltaguns anyone can field, as well as their usual Master Crafted weapons. But not everything is a straight step up from their 40k incarnation, having the dubious honour of being THE s l o w e s t Legion of them all, both prone to being outmaneuvered and Sweep Advanced. Awesome transports and Wall-of-Death flamer squads help mask this problem, but their main issue remains: They are a slow force that does best at close range but fares poorly in melee. Don't let the enemy catch you by surprise.
>>
>>50300961

We have space mongols/skythians/cossacks..so we can also go for one black chapter with the celestial liones as well.

Tzeentch was my favourite in Chaos 3.5.

Sort of unhappy with them not having 2 woundd anymore, but resilience is Nurgels domain I guess.

And I can not really complain about amazing invul saves.

Also, I recently bought BoP for the MKIIIs, so I would be open to sell Bjö..I mean Geigor, Sisters of Silence and Custodes.

Would rather help someone out here instead of just throwing it on e-bay.

Drop me an e-mail if you are intested.

We'll get daemon Angron in the book after WS as I think they'll focus on the Ruinstorm and Nuceria, there'll also be a unit of ML 1 psykers but if they're within 12 inches of another WE unit that unit takes d6 witchfire hits.

Lorgar will gain a psychic power that regenerates him after destroying 2 units but makes him slow and purposeful on the next turn. Vharka Jal, cheaper Gal Vorbak that can be taken in units of 20.

Sigsimund will defiantly get a boost, but his model must be painted black :^)

Dorn could get something like 'The Hydra's true head', which is a one use item, where you point it at a unit with LoS and they immediately take a fear test at -3 if traitor, or gain Crusader or Furious Charge if loyalist.

I think the TSons are interesting, specifically the fact that forgeworld never did a set of helmets with the iconic TS crest, almost certainly because GW warned them off. Makes me wonder, will they do the same for the other heavily-corrupted traitor legions, just leave it to GW? For example, makes me wonder if we'll never see forgeworld kits for the post Terminus Est death guard that were on Terra. Could the current upgrade sets be the only things those legions get from forgeworld?

So if I read this right, the mutation with the Salamander's geneseed is that where other marines darken in high radiation, and then lighten again when the exposure is gone, Salamanders also darken in high radiation, but it just never lightens again. And with Nocturne being a really high radiation world, it just so happens that recruits from Nocturne darken almost immediately upon implantation, whereas the Terrans "built up to it". In addition, Vulkan had all training for the legion done on Nocturne, regardless of where a marine was originally from, which ensured that every marine would be exposed to Nocturne's high radiation.
