Anon, there's a chart to help you and spare this bread of pointless suggestions. What's your play style, and which legion interests you?
>>
>>50195697
Well, what sort of stuff do you like? Tough infantry, going fast, massed vehicles, shooting, assault, what?
>>
>>50195692
They should, it is a power-armoured hand obviously, but it should fit the Cataphractii just fine.
>>
>>50195697
Then you must pick Imperial Fists.

I love glass cannon armies, but i figured i'll leave that for Eldar in 30k/40k rather than Marines

If i think on it i like:

>I'd rather hit hard overall rather than fancy combos
>I'd rather be fluffy and have a selection of units rather than spamming an "i win" unit

Repostan because I think it got lost in the thread transfer.
So. 20 thralls, expanding to 40 when I make my army bigger, a Thanatar, 4 Castellax with 2 darkfire for AT, 2 Mauler cannon and melee gear for anti-infantry.
6 Thallax come with the bundle, so maybe Icarian on 1 or 2 groups for AA if desired?
Add 2 Phospex medusas with Reductor allies, repaired by the Reductor magos in an Auxilia unit and that should be decent at 2k, right?

Anything I missed? Might want to grab a Vulturax eventually, but that has most anything I want in a starting list.

How popular are they? I'm not against rolling with Dorn

>>50195814

How are the legions like DG or IW? I keep hearing that AL are both popular and not at the same time

Is there a HH tactics resource somewhere? Pretty new to it and I'm noticing it plays a lot differently to 40k.

No. You can count the number of Sallies and Hands we have here on your hands. I wish I was joking. Now rip off your hands and put metal hands on those stumps.

>How are the legions like DG or IW?
They are WW1 in Spess, you can't get more trenche warfare than that, and the DG is strong against what the IH isn't, and vice versa. And damn are the Iron Warriors shell shocked or what.
Also, AL are popular because they are flexibility and backstabbing incarnate, and you can pull some mindgames and steal legion specifics and sabotage & troll your enemy to no end...But their own legion specifics are kind of outdated right now, surpassed by Vets.
>>50195908

Okay, here's my take for Headhunters.

We keep them mostly the same, give the pistols Banestrike, let them take 2 heavy bolters, and give them PE (Infantry) and Scout. Maybe drop them down to 20 ppm.

Then, in light of the fact that Sniper Vets aren't breaking the game we completely do away with the range reductions for banestrike across the board.

Overwolfing is the same as furrying to me. Nordic stuff I have no problem with.
>>50196413
Eh, I respond to comments, not to people. Unless they are annoying, then it's a people's issue.
>>
>>50196422
I think if we just gave them the abolity ro get precisions shots on a 5 or even 4 up, or just made it so you couldn't look out sir them, then they would have a real place as the anti-character head hunter squad as opposed to seekers who are used to fuck up a particular unit.
>>
>>50193737
>>50193813
Do note, though, that those legs are modeled to fit the marine bikes. The Outrider kit uses the scout bike, which required a slightly different pose to fit. The feet, for example, are at a different angle.

If you're going to get 3rd party legs, you likely need to convert them, the bike or use GW bikes instead.

After all this time, I still don't know whether I like running 20 man blobs, 15 man-pseudo blobs or 10 dudes in Rhinos

What is the general consensus here on the mandatory, yet impossible to decide upon vanilla tac squad?

Blob dudes requires 55 points of Apothecary, and a lot of luck, cover and grit to stay alive but can shit shit up with POTL, 10 dudes are safer for a while, and all but useless if the Rhino dies before time
>>

>>50196422
Also get Banestrike to ignore power armour on a 5+ and give Power Daggers Murderous Strike.
>>50196478
We're reaching unheard of Toughness levels! Is he tougher than a Reductor, though?
>>
>>50196231
1. Black undercoat
2. Spray Mechanicus standard grey over the miniature.
3. USMC from Panzer ace Vallejo and Basalt Grey Game color. That can be switched with Eshin grey I noticed.
It is 2:1 ratio green/grey

Will try using a leadbealcher coat instead of Mechanicus in order to try getting a more metallic look.

>>50196225

The green you have is more like most people seem to do. Kabalite green + Sybarite and then it is just, green and not the pale sea green from old.

That is just the base colour though. Thinking of putting a lighter layer and a highlight but don't know which colour to use.
>>

RG are adaptable and hard hitting. They alpha strike like no other and are murderous. They are the best at [[MAXIMIZING CASUALTIES]] to line troops and fight dirty. If you want a legion that is the best at wholesale slaughter look no further. Some may be better in melee, some may be tricksy, many others tougher; but the RG are Kings of Murder. You will never struggle to kill anything. Especially other marines.

Where most other legions are pigeon-holed into a certain play-style with their RoWs; the RG are not. Adaptability is the name of the game.

IW blow shit up from afar and march forward, RG pop out of no where and gun things down before leaping in to Rip and Tear.

IW are easy to play, artillery and Iron Fire. Its very fluffy and extremely powerful/effective. Hence why it is so popular.

RG need a bit more finesse and a predatory mindset. They are good at exploiting the weaknesses of other legions, but do not butt heads with them. But is is sickeningly satisfying when you start thinking of the other players minis as prey.

Based on your criteria (including not playing too common an army), I'd say Iron Hands, Sons of Horus, and Salamanders. Let's go through the list:

DA - harsh legion rules, but Ironwing could work for you
EC - no, they're a finesse army (have to get the charge)
IW - too common
WS - finesse army (fast, expensive units)
SW - won't know until Inferno comes out
IF - very durable, but fairly common
NL - finesse army (fast, expensive units)
BA - finesse army (fast, expensive units)
IH - durable against shooting, love tanks
WE - hit hard, but take too many losses
UM - generalists... you could make them work
DG - fit the bill, but very common
TS - won't know until Inferno comes out
SoH - hit hard, good variety
WB - slightly finesse (expensive unique units)
Sal - very durable, tons of templates, slow
RG - finesse army (fast, expensive units)
AL - finesse since their bonuses are to deployment

Hey /HHG/ I could use some help settline on a basic outline for an army. I eventually plan to go for 5,000 points of IW with allied Reductor forces. Instead of being focused on artillery, I plan to have bodies and tanks on the table designed to pound the enemy from range and then counter charge them with some tough units.

I mostly know what I want from the Iron Warriors side. Perty + some Iron Circle will be in the center to hold the line with some large squads of Tacs and a bunch of big guns behind them (Iron Havocs, Tyrants, and tanks).

The main problem is that I really don't know what to bring on the Reductor side and it is pretty intimidating breaking into mechanicum. I know i can outfit the magos to spit out anti armor death, which sounds pretty appealing, then maybe some basic robots/artillery to provide support? IS there a "standard" template for an allied reductor force that people tend to build off of?

Is there a consensus on which is better at large point games (4-5k): Max tac squads with apothecary or x10 in rhinos? (or even a mix between the two)?

I have heard differing opinions to the point that some people seem to say rhinos are literally a waste of points to large squads being instantly deleted on foot instantly within big games.

Welcome to the Ravenspire, Brother. Victorus Aut Mortis.

Corax was always the one Noblebright intentions, but murderous instincts.

Making a list is pretty straightforward, especially if you know what you're facing. Remember to not get stuck in the "summary of an armies fluff" mindset. RG had tanks, super heavies, gunships, dreads, the works. Sure they were in different numbers than other legions and different applications; But RG were always about to most efficient way to win. Whether thats a Mor Deythan strike team taking out a power generator, a Moritat Kill Cadre massacring a space station, or a tank spearhead breaking through the weakest part of the line. They solved their problems with brains and the right tools for the job. All through a predators eye.

Applying that to the game translates to things like Mor Deythan and Dark Furies scouring scoring units, Seekers killing Command units, gunships hunting down heavy support, Corax is psuedo invisible most of the time and can kill up to 15 marines a turn before sweeping. Kaedes Nex to stack VPs.

The list goes on.

Magos Reductor, One Thallax unit, One Reductor Artillery unit, which is what people want the Reductor for. If you want your Magos to engage in melee then you'll kit him up, he can become a beast but it'll cost you. Thallax can deny infiltration early.
Despite the name, the Reductor Artillery squad can be used as assault Vindicators, or Melta blast tanks and such. Read this fluff.

In big games you want some deep striking units (like drop pod squads) to try your luck at attacking artillery units or heavy weapon squads in bunkers. I like Rhinos too because they provide cover from shooting and (more importantly) from being charged, if you place them right. That feels gamey, but it works.

Here's the thing:

They are what you pay for. 10 Lascannons is a lot of hurt. But every marine lost is substantial. Different legions do them better. IF get Tank Hunters, RG/AL can infiltrate them in side armor and have higher chances to go first. But there are other sources of AT that are tougher and more mobile, but slightly less raw damage output but are better at certain targets.

It really depends on the legion youre playing and the target.

A Lightning loaded with turbo krakens will put the hurt on things. A venator will force it to snapfire and do some good damage. A Lasbattery Deredeo will shave off chunks. Medusae batteries will do some damage too.

I would do two venators and a lightning. Force it to snapfire while doing HPs then finish it with turbo krakens.

>You now have a mold
I will leave the caveat that I don't know how well it would work for DG, but it worked just fine for my DA.

First squad from prospero finished (pretty much). First ever attempt at edge highlighting. How did I do lads?
>>
>>50200023
The paintjob is clean but I can't see the highlighting - I'd go for a stronger contrast. After that, give washes a whirl. When in doubt, just use watered down Nuln Oil and carefully paint it into the crevasses. Where does the word "Nuln" come from, anyway?

Nuln is an Empire city from WHFB. And never thin Citadel washes with water or you increase the chance of them drying white.

4/10 barely table top standard.

Okay for first time though.

Watch Saint Duncan's tutorial on painting TS.

Remember to drill your barrels.

Remember to THIN YOUR PAINTS.

It's too late for that now. That should have been done at the beginning, but back then FW didn't know their shit. (and they kind of still don't)

I should really get something to properly transport my rhinos in. Right now they travel to the LGS jammed together in a landraider box because they're bare plastic anyway. But now that almost everything else is painted it's really jarring to have the decent looking infantry standing next to naked plastic rhinos.

Actually, rechecking, on the models they have a bit of a blue glow on the inside, but the heat coils are a red/gold/brass color, but on the art for them they're red and fire red rays/beams.
>>
>>50200655
>Heavy Support, unfortunately.

I wouldn't say its a total loss, as the role they usually serve is more HS than elite and Elite slots tend to be pretty crowded anyway. Plus it means you can combo 3 units of tyrant siege termies with vanilla/tatroros squads because you love 2+ saves and infantry spam but also hate high model count armies and having points left over for transports.
>>
>>50200762
They'd be better off as Elites, as HS is usually taken by Tanks/Artillery/Doritos/Big Boys/LASCANNONS/Other
>>
>>50200685
I can mathhammer well enough to work out the Ld. tests, I'm just wondering whether the powers are good enough to warrant the points investment. I already run Scoria, I just wanted someone to throw Rite of Destruction on my Thanatar and Vulturax when Scoria is busy casting Rite of the Beast on his Vorax hunting dogs.
>>
>>50200444
They're not bad, but I think you'll find that a wash will liven them up. Highlighting is best done after the wash, and you may want to because it's hard to see the highlighting that you've done. Could be the lighting in the photo.

The shiny Thousand Sons you're comparing yours to are different - a candy coat (a custom car term, clear colored paint over a metallic base) kind of highlights itself just by being so shiny. With flat paints, you're basically trying to simulate reflected light so it takes more work.
>>
>>50200655
For fuck's sake, I just looked through cult-mech codex and it turns out only two pics display it correctly with the cylinder shaped opening while every other one is the double holed plasma one.

I guess I'll be painting my Cult-Mech Vokite red then...
>>
>>50200762
>>50200792

Yeah no, it is a total loss and a rly bad nerf, especially considering the fact that IW now have both of their special units in the heavy support slot and they both fulfill similar roles.
>>
>>50200830
Actually, if we go by official art and models, Volkite doesn't glow, but does fire red beams.

The heat coils on them are a more gold/brass color, look at FW's TS Contemptor, Knight Styrix, and Glaive for examples.

Fuck my club is doing the Istvaan 5 campaign and I need to pick a legion. I'm lucky in that my club is chill and isn't WAAC, I just don't know what would be more fun. Can anyone give me some help with these ideas?

>Headhunter Leviathal focused on fucking with the HQs to the exclusion of actual objectives. Kinda iffy because as much as I love the fluff, it really feels like Seekers would be better because Headhunters just look bad.

>A young World Eater who is devoted to Khorn Worship quite religiously leading several like minded squads of his friends, followers and brothers into glorious battle with their dreadnought support. Iffy because it feels like there's no real tactics.

Headhunters seem fine as troops and you can still have Seekers on your fast attack slot.

I myself am not really fond of either idea.

Number one is because of how poor Headhunters are right now, sadly.

Number two is that Chaos Worship wasn't really a thing outside the WB and SoH until late/after the Heresy, iirc.

Could be wrong though, but the first one sounds cool though, like something the AL would do.

If you want to add a layer of depth to your models, you can look up what colors of clothing meant in medieval times- purple was for royalty because of how hard it was to make, and White was for purity, and so on.
