Pathfinder General /pfg/

>THIS IS IMPORTANT!
If you want build advice make sure to say what 3pp you can use, if any.
>THIS IS IMPORTANT!

Friendly reminder that if you play an OD/ZS warder with Broken Blade, Elemental Flux, and/or Shattered Mirror, you're the cancer giving PoW an overpowered name.

Is anyone else excited for the Nirmathas AP? It sounds like we'll finally get to play proper conscripts engaging in gorilla warfare against an organized military force!

Don't even have to mention Nirmathan guys and girls are cute, and the after-campaign quest hook *will* be about Molthune!
>>
>>50164444

That's really the problem with a lot of their books these days. A page or two with strong or thematically interesting options, and the rest, nothing.

Pazio tends to do "options that are mechanically bad but might be interesting, then 1 option that had some actual math behind it and is good".

It kinda sucks because there is a lot of shit, but the things that pazio has really screwed up are somewhat rare compared to things like broken blade.

Was looking for specific examples guys, like some feat that makes a new build viable or a magic item thats nice or some archetype that lets you pull of some crazy multiclass druid/gunslinger/cleric build. You know, the specific good stuff, i know full well the overall average isn't going to be awesome.

Well, we rescued the skald from a terrible fate at the hands of deep one hybrids-that was pretty fun. We then took the fight to their leader, only to be confronted by his pet, some kind of horrible mutant troll-thing. It was a tricky fight, but eventually, we killed the leader, the mutant, and the remaining deep ones, and burned the whole horrid village to the ground.

We also met a new PC, made to replace our cleric who had been killed by the fishmen. She's a druid, with some sort of connection to our witch.

Eflux and Shattered Mirror I'm not really sure about, heck imo those 3 disciplines don't synergize well at all.

Our necromancer found a huge pile of rotting corpses in a temple, reenactment the thriller music video with the party rogue:
>Party in investigating how an entire city sans the local goddesses temple disappeared
>Only people left are a bunch of dwarves, who claim to be the royal guard, and one who is king
>After, through shenanigans with invisibility and messing with corpses, we drove a guy bonkers and he confessed to the "vengeful spirits" that the king wasn't really the king and he had done something to remove the town and witnessed(kill them)
>that night, after almost being caught by said kings guards after the guy went nuts, the team necromancer and rogue check the place while invisible
>Over hear king blatantly say he wished the town away and for himself to be king
>Wants is dead
>Start heading back, but the we find it
>A pile of skeletons 15 feet high
>Plan is formed, messages related to other members, and it happens
>It was close to midnight
>Suddenly a wave of skeletons 100 strong(1hd each but they just swarmed the fuck outta everything)
>Necromancer and rogue riding the wave
>Horde of wailing undead fly through the temple killing anyone involved in the conspiracy
>Party meets up to confront king
>About to get answers
>Literally wishes himself out of existence
>We aren't even mad
>Ends soon after that, everyone laughing at the image of a ratfolk and Kobold riding a wave of skeletal hands
Good times

Elemental Flux has some really strong stances (Elemental Flux Stance and Enter The Vortex)
Shattered Mirror has Reflected Blade Style, which is a boost that initiates a strike you just used but on a separate enemy with so many feet.
Broken Blade has Bronze Knuckle and Steel Flurry Strike, a boost and a strike that when used together deal three attacks at full attack bonus -2, deal 5d6+2 each hit and all ignore hardness and DR.

Any one of those is fine, but it's when you use them together that it makes a very strong offense, which the heavily defense focused class features of a OD/ZS compliment

The party chained up their wildcard of a party member, offered him a way to redeem himself and he refused. He managed to break the magical chains, but not the physical ones, and began shuffling away. The elven sniper blew his legs out from under him, and when she noticed he was still alive, got a crit on the headshot to put him down.

They then rounded up his remains, threw all the bits into some sacks, rode away from town, dug a ditch, threw the sacks in there and threw their blood-soaked cloaks on top of them, then buried it all.

He's already been resurrected by the BBEG as a minion.

>>
>>50165149
I don't get the memeing about RZS+RBS.
There's no extra damage or anything. All it has is that it's a near guarantee for doing 2x weapon damage (that can't crit).
Other disciplines have multi-full BAB hits, even outside of broken blade. All that Zeniths do is make the "second" hit a lot more likely to hit (you shouldn't be missing with the first hit anyways).

I'll guess the zeniths are seen as "too good" more due to them being the primary damage dealing maneuver of scarlet throne and sharing the same skill check as the (admittedly great) counters that the discipline has.

Fortune+Cackle+scar is a fantastic combo for buffing witches; a cackling hag's blouse helps with the cackling too.

Fpr spells, the typical enlarge person, ironskin, heroism, and fly are all good. Debuffing key enemies can be as good or better than buffing, and Witches are really good at that. Ill omen has no save and can make enemies susceptible to everyone's spells and abilities.

If you're going to use your familiar a lot to deliver touch spells you might also want to consider being a winter witch. You can make any touch spell be considered a cold spell, letting you specialize in those and raise the DCs to really high levels. Once you get the duplicate familiar spell and familiar spell metamagic there will be almost no risk to your actual familiar or yourself and things can get pretty crazy.

Incidentally, cheesy usage of duplicate familiar, familiar spell and optimized blasting was how I once made a Megumin-like sorcerer who used all of their spells in one day to do absurd amounts of damage.
>>
Hi people, has anyone here tried the automatic bonus progression rules from Unchained? I want to use them, possibly for a Reign of Winter campaign where they are tied to the PCs assuming the mantle of Black Midnight.
>>
Would you play a game where PoW classes are banned, but initiating archetypes and Martial Training are allowed?
>>
>>50165420
Ooh, and that seems to only require a CL of 5. I think I can use that, even if it is five levels eaten.
>>
>>50165481
Tried it in a campaign a while ago.

The issue with it is that there's no customization and it's actually hard for a GM to properly gift characters fun items when they're trying to slot into a much smaller WBL pool. It's good if you as a GM enjoy being stingy with your loot, but for a standard GM it's more hassle than it's worth and feels bad for everybody.
>>
>>50165481
The problem is that it's a nerf; the bonuses come much later in a character's career then if they had bought the equivalent item.
>>
>>50165502
Or just a few feats with Basic and Advanced Magical Training, though granted it won't come online until 10th level
>>
>>50165492
Sure, options like Myrmidon, Hidden Blade, and Polymath/Warpath Follower are great fun.
>>
>>50165461
Appreciate it
>>
>>50165347
I understand that Reflected Blade Style is /really/ strong, I just don't understand why the zeniths are called out as OP when Broken Blade, Fool's Errand, Riven Hourglass and Mithral Current all have multistrikes. And that's before charge shenanigans with Primal Fury, or a well co-ordinated team using Golden Lion to throw down tons of attacks. Why just Scarlet Throne?
>>
>>50165492
I guess. I mean, Myrmidon is my favorite PoW, so if I was desperate I'd play in it.
Though I do prefer casters
>>
>>50165533
>The issue with it is that there's no customization and it's actually hard for a GM to properly gift characters fun items when they're trying to slot into a much smaller WBL pool.
Doesn't the characters getting the same essential bonuses regardless of how much gold they have mean that sticking to WBL becomes less important?
>>

>>50165633

>>50165646
Sure, but a lot of the game's assumptions are built around the customization your character goes through, and it still expects you to have an upper limit.

Plus, it just isn't FUN, and that's what we're really here for. the only time I'd recommend giving plays Automatic Bonus Progression is when you're running a low magic campaign where that sort of shit is hard to get in the first place. Might be fun if you're trying to emphasize warriors and sweep spellcasters under the rug.
>>
>>50165533
>>50165646
Yeah, the point of autoprogression systems means that people CAN have fun items. You shoulder slot isn't welded to a cloak of goddamn resistance.

It also frees up DMs to make their parties less of an economic fucking event horizon, since they don't need to be wearing the entire GNP of a small mercantile country by level 10.
>>
>>50165712
>implying level 10 PCs aren't 1-man autonomous nation-states.
>implying that GDP isn't on par for them.
Parties are like international alliances after a certain point.
>>
>>50165534

Does it impact the PCs chances that much? Most Paizo APs aren't that hard.

And yeah, balancing the remaining loot according to the standard WBL progression may be a pain in the ass. That is the major reason I have not tried it so far.
>>
>>50165838
Actually funny thing is under Pathfinder's downtime rules largish companies make absolutely retarded amount of money. The lumber consortium makes something like 18 million gold per year.

Not a good session here. Party had some minor shopping to do to start, and everyone kept it concise. Except for one player, who somehow dragged out his shopping to an hour and a half, second guessing himself, double backing on decisions, taking an eternity to look up every choice, sidetracking into political debates etc. When we were able to finally move onto the quest at hand the same player went on to OOC veto every course of action anyone proposed to tackle the current obstacle because it didn't align perfectly with his character's skill ranks. 4 hours later and nothing really accomplished. No one died though, that's a plus.

following up from the last thread because i didnt get a reply.

Im making an Intimidate focused unchained ninja with the 3rd party Konran and Bandit archetypes. Im not sure if i should go two weapon fighting and piranha strike or something else like sap master. so my 1st and 3rd level feats are up in the air.

the go to plan is to land a sneak attack, trade off some sneak attack damage to make the opponent shaken, then follow up with full sneak attacks with shatter defenses. Thoughts?
>>
Insistent Benefactor

Benefit: Whenever you cast a harmless spell, you gain a +2 trait bonus on caster level checks to overcome spell resistance, and the saving throw DC of the spell (if any) is increased by 2.

Does it work with enchantment spell like Sleep, Hideous Laughter and the like?
>>
>>50166285
Don't think so. The spell would have to have (harmless) listed by its save information, which none of those have.
>>
>>50166256
Honestly sap master is pretty damn bad, you'll be better off with TWF. You can open sneak attacks using flanking, you shouldn't have to rely on on shatter defenses. Plus shaken isn't a super strong condition (don't get me wrong it isn't bad, but not super).

Lay on Hands is a swift when targetted on yourself, so its very good for keeping yourself alive.

Consider the save boosting stuff like Iron Will as on top of your divine grace you should become near impossible to fail saving throws at that point. Extra Lay on Hands if you end up taking damage a lot.
Martial Focus would let you take Difficult Swings which makes the ground around you difficult terrain for enemies when you full attack, useful if you find yourself often dealing with hordes of maneuverable ground foes.

It's odd how I can switch from being invested in a character's well-being to cackling at their cracking bones in maybe two seconds flat. I'm fine with a little suffering, in fact I'm fine with a lot of suffering*.

*Only if the DM brings it up to me first so I can see if it'll work well in the plot - even something cliche like, "I want to mindbreak your fiance and murder your parents" can be played well with a little prep-time!

The DM had us all die to a trio of liches with advanced templates in a dungeon where the floor kept disappearing into the astral plane.

We had a blood kinectist, a crafting wizard going necromancer, a champion of iroeae(Monk/paladin prestiege class) or whatever it is, a bolt ace, a cleric also going into a necromancer build, and an NPC fighter.

The fight lasted for 2 hours, and our heavy hitters needing a 15+ to hit touch.

Then when we all died, we woke up infront of the dungeon with all our shit.

We lost a total of a month in game from that dungeon and we left the session pissed because the GM calculated the dungeon for an additional 3 more players who left the game weeks ago.

Your GM is dumb.
>>
>>50167041
He said mechanically it was still equal to us since he scaled down the Liches' AC and gave them each a single maximized fireball instead of multiple.

Not to mention he said it didn't count as actually killing us and warned half the party (The ones who didn't want to go in) that the dungeon was dangerous and might result in a TPK.

Sadly, our paladin/monk charged in saying the loot is too good to pass up.

Once he died he then said we should have never went in and instead continued our quest of saving the princess from fantasy storm troopers and fantasy kylo ren.
>>
>>50167085
It doesn't sound like he did a good enough job of scaling the dungeon down, especially if he had multiple liches throwing out spells that would be doing 30 damage if you passed your saves.

We're all lv9 with an additional 2 level for auto progression bonuses. Originally the party was supposed to be made of Tier 4 classes only but he got rid of the restriction when we had 2 PC deaths in the span of 5 sessions.

We also have to do 4D6 and got to put them where ever, and we could make any characters from any setting using Pathfinder rules, but first party only unless he approves (Which for the most party, only Tier 4 or less stuff is approved) then the new PC is thrust into the world via planar bullshit and all local monsters automatically are drawn to him/her and wants to maul them to death for 6 months in game, or less if they can figure out how to cloak their scent.

Party that is with us so far is:

Bloodbender from Legend of Korra who is trying to become an international information broker.

Aasimar champion of Iorae who comes from a wuxia setting.

Dhamphir cleric/necromancer who is a native and has an undead mail/courier system.

Bolt Ace elf from the Witcher series who just wants to murder everyone and take their loot. Sadly he is leaving since he prefers 5th edition due to the fact it's quicker and easier to play.

Native human fighter who for some reason, constantly comes back to life even if his soul is sent straight to Hell. Acts as resident NPC meatshield.

Then me, a human turned gnome crafting wizard/necromancer from Spelljammer who wants to go back to space and smuggle stuff like chihuahuas and shit for gold.

I was then struck with a water blast by the bloodbender for making a reference to that movie.

Blackjack is fun if you have a fellow Blackjack in the party, but not so much otherwise until you hit 8th level.

Buckler Duelist is interesting if you want to specialize in both Scarlet Throne and Iron Tortoise.

Cad is only useful if you spec in Improvised Weapons, and aggro hard, but honestly why would you?

Crossbowman a shit. SHIIIIIIT!

Cyber Soldier is ok to mix in if you are in a campaign with cyber/high tech weapons. Without access to cyber-arms though, its a waste.

Dervish of Dawn has decent high damage potential thanks to its built in "Move and Full Attack" feature. Works best with Panther Style, Broken Blade, and Fool's Errand

Dragoon provides decent synergy between Piercing Thunder and Thrashing Dragon. For full Kaine Highwind levels of crazy, throw in Mithril Current.

Drill Seargent is decent if you have a full party of warriors with the same weapon type. Pair it with Golden Lion and be a Frontline Leader

Free Hand Fighter is a waste, though I can see some synergy with wielding a spiked shield as your only weapon, and focusing on Scarlet Throne.

If using either Piecemeal or Performance Combat, Gladiator is nice. Otherwise, avoid it.

Learned Duelist is much like Free-Hand Fighter, except much more limited and relies on Int. Ignore it.

Martial Flexibility "could" work, especially if you want to be the ultimate flexible combat dude however with the advent of WMH, its honestly a weak options

Lore Warden is Amazing, period.

Mobile fighters have devent synergy with high-mobility discs, but lack of Weapon Training hurts them sorely. There may be synergy though with Armor Training, however that is inconclusive at this time.

Mutation Warrior is great for numerous things, especially thanks to the extra arms and wings, plus the Mutagen helps boost as a mini-rage

Pack Mule? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Phalanx Soldier is made pointless with a single feat, and is only good in games that ban Warders, and still need NPCs for form shield wall tactics.

So guys

I've noticed a recent trend in some archetypes (Warlock, Cabalist, Eldritch Scoundrel, Child of Amazon and Acne (?)) that it's becoming more okay to drop some class features in order to get some measure of casting ability off of a 9-level caster's spell list.

What classes do you think are getting casting archetypes next? Is this even a good idea?
>>
>>50167722
That fighter archetype is an abomination.
>>
>>50167405
>2/3

Polearm Master is useless, and both Spear Dance Style and Piercing Thunder do a better job than it.

Relic Master Is only good if you invest in relic feats, which you can't as easily thanks to burning them away to get Myrmidon.

Roughrider isn't usually worth it, unless your DM give you a free scaling mount. You're better off homebrewing an initiating Cavalier

For Savage Warrior, loss of Weapon Training hurts, but if you want to make Primal Fury even more bonkers there are worse options.

Sensate is essentially a Barbarian-lite with none of the benefits. Honestly, not that worth it save for the fact that centering yourself in all day. Only a good choice if you have to fight lots of Illusionists

Shielded fighter doesn't offer much for what you lose. Much better as NPC enemy encounters.

Swordlord is a pretty solid archetype, though its weakness is in lacking automatic proficiency with the Dueling Sword. Take with Scarlet Throne and Mithral Current to get your Shashka skills to full Kurwa levels

Tactician is a mess to combine. You lose your 1st level feat for nothing, and the Int Reliance makes you a tad MAD. Still, is good with Golden Lion

Thunderstriker turns you into a mini ZweiSent, have fun.

Titan Fighter is not worth it.

Tower Shield Specialist makes Tower Shields actually useful, and good for stopping touch attacks. Shame about loss of Weapon Training, but is decent defensive option.

Trench Fighter is how you Gun. Combine with Tempest Gale for great gun-fun.

Two-Handed Fighter is for people who want to outdamage the Barbarian. Break all the shit.

Two-Weapon warrior relies on full-attacks, and loses too much. Ignore it.

Unarmed Fighter loses too much. Just take Fool's Errand instead.

>>50167462
The problem with Overwatch, is that you still need to reload quick enough to use it effectively, which locks you to using the the weaker crossbows until later levels. Plus a lot of what you get isn't worth losing Weapon Training.

Unbreakable is less important due to Counters being a thing. Still, if the campaign has a lots of magic and stuff with Saves, it might not be a bad choice.

Vengeful Hunter would be good, if combat wasn't so short. Also the damage stipulation on Vengeance hampers it

Viking is the true Barbarian Lite. ITs serviceable, but honestly you're still better off going Primal Disciple unless you want to be Lawful

For Weapon Master, I can't remember if WMH had stipulations for it or not. Personally, though, I find it kind of limiting.

Airborne Ambusher (Strix) is great by virtue of Flyby Attack, which means Flyby Strikes

Cavern Sniper (Drow) is fun for Archery Builds.

Foehammer (Dwarf) has good synergy with multi-hit Strikes.

Not all the Archetypes, though they are the ones listed on the Fighter Page Chart of the SRD

>>50167766
If only you had gotten here sooner. Still, I started and decided I may as well take responsibility and finish. I guess I should also stop here and not to the uncharted archetypes.

>>50167756
Your question depends highly on the group in particular, the campaign setting, and how the DM plays it.
As for your pic related, they'd be not as uncommon in an Iron Gods or similar campagin.
Though Humans are still generally the most versitile race all around.
>>
>>50167756

So, speaking of Fighters, what are your thoughts on the Spirit Wielder fighter from the Enhancer's Handbook for Spheres?

On the ones hand, you lose a lot of your class features to effectively give your weapon a brain and make them a Low-Caster.

But on the other, its a free Action Economy boost, augmented by the nature of Sphere's Magic, and is compatible with Myrmidon.

Sorry for not responding earlier! The idea is to be a character that gets a contract, and after doing thorough investigation of the target, enters the complex and does a spiffing job of killing everyone that gets between you and your goal. Basically an Eversor from Warhammer 40k.

Stealth is only a focus before entering the target area, after which it's all about pushing yourself towards the target while having blocked out their means of escape before engaging.

in that case, I'd recommend either a Brutal Slayer Stalker (which you already noted yourself), or a Harbinger for the Cursed Razor and claim Lockdown. nothing stops you from taking cursed razor on the Brutal Slayer of course, but the problem is that stalker is more bent on putting your enemy in the ground NOW than it is on debilitating enemies so you can move in for a killing blow. Neither one is particularly great at personal survival either, so they may not be amazing for solo gameplay.

Either way, three things to really consider with this gameplay style. The first is information; always be informed about your target. Gather information and knowledge skills are extremely important for this, because you need to know how to deal with what you're getting into and putting enemies into the ground along the way no information means you can't perform part two.

The second bit is preparation. this is INCREDIBLY important, and it always shocks me how badly some players flub this aspect, and it's even more important for a solo player because you can't fall back on you allies. If your target has a weakness - they're a troll, for instance - exploit it to the hilt. If they can be lured out, take the opportunity to set up a trap rather than going to their haunts. If you know they have an ability that could cause you problems, figure out how to counter it (such as drinking a potion of See Invisibility).

Finally, don't fight aggressively. You don't need to; your target can't go anywhere if you lock him down properly, and if done right he can't kill you because you're denying his abilities and attacks. You, as a solo operator, are very vulnerable to getting blitzed, so never overextend - the contract isn't worth your life unless things have already gone completely pear shaped. You have time, so grind him down until you can do with your target as you please.

Take your time, do the job right, and you can do anything. also, invest in stealth skills.
>>

I bumped Unsanctioned Knowledge to give a number of "spell levels" equal to 1/3 your character levels. So at level 17 it gives 5 levels in spells. So 5 level 1 spells, 1 level 4 spell and 1 level 1, 2 level 2 spells and a level 1, etc.

Dude, you're reading my mind with this post in regards to how I plan to play this character! I'm definitely going to be going for Brutal Slayer or Harbinger now, and I'm taking the advice you gave me to heart; be calm, be professional, if I did Step 1 right than I've got all the time in the world to take out my target. As long as I've been unseen until the moment of first engagement, I've got the contract in the bag.
>>
>>50168516
oh yeah - pick up Survival and Heal if you can afford the skill points. Survival can give you details about a thing from footprints, aside from being useful in the wilderness in general. Heal will allow you to examine wounds and see what caused them, stitch yourself back up in the event that you've botched a job, and learn about the peculiarities of the target after the fact so that you can prepare for the future. It'll also let you clean your kills to take trophies and whatnot and, in a pinch, it'll let you perform torture without risking your victim.

Brutal Slayer and Harbinger both allow quite a bit of Intelligence, so I'll easily have the points for both of those skills. I was planning on going for Heal anyway; if I'm going alone I might as well be good at stitching up my own wounds, right? I'll easily be able to do to those things you recommended. Torture and the like are not out of the question, this character isn't exactly what I'd call a paragon of virtue.

Dude, I can't thank you enough; you're helping me turn this concept into a full-blown character I'm not only able to play, but damn excited to! I'd buy you a drink if this wasn't an anonymous website.

No problem, Anon.

I do have one last piece of advice for you, though. That is, even if you dump charisma, make an effort to maintain good relationships with those in relative positions of power. Don't be a sycophant, but maintain a professional level of courtesy with the other person; he's not your friend, he's a prospective employer, and should be treated with respect until such a time as you decide you're never going to work with him.

Additionally, make friends. Even among little people. Knowing people that you can rely on to help you get something done is invaluable - A particularly good poison maker that you find ingredients for now and then, that guardsman who you can get some drinks with after his shift, that woman you saved from an abusive relationship, or even that farmer who might be willing to let you stay with him for a few nights because you saved his farm from a troll.

You may not get returns on your actions immediately, but doing "Good Deeds" helps your reputation (which gets you more jobs) and has benefits that you can't buy with gold.

The answer is "Don't fucking do it."

It's a class that's basically pigeonholed into doing damage and nothing but damage, and it does said damage so well that it flat-out invalidates combat, and turns combat into the be-all-end-all solution. I'm talking amounts where you could, literally, get a physical bucket of dice, and not have enough.

Your thoughts are mine, anon. I was never planning on being an ass-kisser with this character, more the type that interacted with their clients on equal terms, negotiating terms and all. He'd definitely be willing to help out someone in need, but as you pointed out he will never do so without a price - usually information, but maybe more, depending on the ability of the person aided.

He's going to be a proper legend with all this backstory ability added up, he's going to be 80% preparation and scouting with the last 20% focused on dealing with every mook between him and his target.

So I thought out a sorta dumb, sorta funny gunslinger archetype. It's called the Gun Shy. She takes penalties to shooting people because the loud bangs scare her, but in return, she can throw her guns at people and deal pistol-whipping damage. And as she levels up, she gets perks to throwing things, like increasing your throw range, the gun bouncing back to your hand, and pistol-whip die size. And on a critical hit, the gun shoots the target as it bounces back.

What do you think?

Profession (Cooking)

You are skilled at preparing exceptionally nourishing meals.

Check: Preparing a meal has a DC of 10 (for a decent meal), 20 (good meal), 30 (extraordinary meal), or 40 (legendary meal). You need ingredients, and a suitable kitchen or equivalent work space. Without a proper kitchen, you take -4 on your cooking check. Cooking without ingredients is impossible.

Decent Meal: Pretty standard fare. A decent meal grants the nourished condition

Good Meal: A good meal, the kind you could expect to find in a particularly expensive restaurant or luxurious inn. In addition to the effects of the nourished condition, a good meal grants a +1 circumstance bonus on fort saves for the condition's duration.

Extraordinary Meal: An incredible meal, the like of which most people will experience only rarely, unless they are quite wealthy. In addition to the effects of a good meal, an extraordinary meal grants 1d8 temporary hit points.

Legendary Meal: A meal of legendary quality. As word gets around of your skill, kings will fight to have you in their kitchens, and beings from other planes will seek you out to experience your masterful creations. A legendary meal grants the nourished condition, as well as a +2 circumstance bonus to all saves, and d8 + (Cook's HD) temporary hit points. Such a meal is so good that creatures who taste it can't bear the thought of dying without tasting it again.

Action: Preparing a meal takes one hour, although a particularly intricate or important meal may take longer, at the GM's discretion.

Try Again: Yes, but every time you prepare a meal any ingredients used are consumed.

Nourished

A nourished character can run as if she possessed the Run feat, and is granted a +1 circumstance bonus to Strength and Dexterity based checks, as well as a +4 circumstance bonus vs effects that cause fatigue or exhaustion. Becoming fatigued removes this condition. Otherwise, it fades after one hour.

I know this may have been asked a lot, but does a rogues sneak attack damage apply multiple times if say they were flanking a target and they had two weapon fighting feat or improved two weapon fighting?

You gain sneak attack whenever you attack a target and they are
1) Flat-footed, or
2) Flanked
So if you're flanking a creature and you make 4 attacks, you get sneak attack on all four of those attacks.

I'm pretty sure that was the case in 3.5 as well, but it's been years since I looked at the rules for it.

Harbinger is great way to do either death knight or demon hunter. Dipping zwiesent can help with death knight.

Can someone give me a rundown of what exactly I can get away with using the Spheres of Power Transformation feat, and at what levels? I want to get a grasp on what potential I have for ALL DAY single form transformation, but I'm drawing blanks here.

Like, for example, say the gimmick is "I want to be a fucking bear". That's simple, and can't be that hard. But what about having... Fuck, I dunno, a sphinx form? Or a young dragon form? Or pic related? How far can you take this? How does it interact with a caster who takes the alteration sphere?
>>
>>50170552
Unholy takes a bit more work, you'll probably want to go ravenlord harbinger to replicate the minion I think.

If you wanted to go more of a wc3 death knight I'd actually recommend omen rider.

Your schools will most likely be black seraph and cursed razor
>>
>>50170574
Gonna be honest that sounds like bog-standard Antipaladin to me.

>>50170586
The weakness of Transformation compared to the actual Alteration Sphere is that unless you actually have alteration, your additional traits are limited in scope, and you need a feat for each.
>>
>>50170574
Diseases as warcraft does them are hard to do. Cursed razor has a bleed.. but that's about all. In pathfinder diseases are about shit like long term debuffs, they're not damage over time effects.

Antipaladin is a bit better for diseases.
>>
>>50170599
>>50170610
And of course the one undead-themed Antipally doesn't get an undead battle buddy but does get a skelly-horse.

It's alright at first glance, but besides that pesky Alignment restriction (Darion Mograine himself is at least some kind of Neutral), it's a bit weaker than I hoped.

Of course, unless whoever GM's whatever game I get this into allows Undead templates the closest I can get race-wise is playing a Dhampir anyway, so it'll probably have to do.

Thanks for everything so far, by the way.

Two rings can be overlain to unleash a torrent of force, hitting an opponent up to 30ft away as a touch attacking your normal bonus for ranged attack. If it hits it deals 10d6 damage.

Well. Without taking Alteration at all to open up your options...

Most forms are really nice bonuses in general really. And then you can get Hybrid Transformation to keep everything you could do untransformed too.

So for two feats, taking Animalistic Transformation for example, you get scent, a bite, a scaling natural armor bonus (Up to +6, base of +2), and a scaling movement speed (Up to 80, base of 40)

As for how things interact with actual Alteration, traits you get via Improved Transformation count against your limit. Although you can suppress them to temporarily replace them with ones from your magic.

Gestalt, all content allowed if it passes GM approval, that frequently linked feat-tax thing, 2 traits/1 drawback for a third/possible campaign trait as a bonus depending on what you're doing, Background Skills being used, disallow thematically inappropriate classes, turn time limits, players are able to craft BUT it requires actual in-game quests for materials rather than buying things in magic shops, magic shops either non-existant or incredibly limited in scope and uncommon, and only the Core races plus 3-4 others so the setting doesn't become a clusterfuck. I like it, but very optional. Definitely not for everyone.

>All content allowed if it passes GM approval
A good general rule but I think there should be an upfront whitelist rather than just a "Anything reasonable goes". If one person decides they don't want to go through everything in 3.5 and another guy does, then the first guy is pressured into an arms race to keep up.

>that frequently linked feat-tax thing, 2 traits/1 drawback for a third/possible campaign trait as a bonus depending on what you're doing, Background Skills being used
All good.

>disallow thematically inappropriate classes
Awful. Flavor limits are fine but if people like the mechanics, just let them refluff it.

>turn time limits
Sounds like such a good idea until it leads to people getting too worked up or pressured in battle and also skipping interesting fluff descriptions. Just trust players to be reasonable on this, don't set a hard time limit.

>players are able to craft BUT it requires actual in-game quests for materials rather than buying things in magic shops, magic shops either non-existant or incredibly limited in scope and uncommon
This is the worst thing. The in-game math expects players to have ready access to the magic items they need, so a system like this becomes a chore without something like ABP. Just let them have the stuff they should be able to afford.

>and only the Core races plus 3-4 others so the setting doesn't become a clusterfuck.
Very subjective. Why even bother limiting it beforehand when you have a party of 4~5, and you can just work with them individually to include their racial choice in the setting?

>Start at a minimum of level 4 or so, otherwise you just hate your players, and never use less than 25PB.
Agree. Though 3 is a more common minimum.

>>50170720
Transformation says it treats your HD as ypur caster level for that effect, does that actually give full trait progression too? Would it still do that, even with talents from spellcasting I assume that if I wanted to, for example, have a flying, celestial dog form, I'd need to take improved Transformation before I could actually apply traits from anything but the base or animalistic pool?

I don't know why I'm spazzing over this, considering that the kind of character I'd give it to would probably be played in a group that doesn't use spheres anyway.

Chimera soul is not good for most natural attack builds though, it doesn't allow for a lot of full attacks and doesn't have many boosts to boost full round attacks.

>>50172456

What's wrong with their dice rolls?
>>

Broken Blade and Primal Fury are seen as the two currently most OP disciplines with upcoming nerfs and really aren't a good starting point.

PoW generally doesn't mesh well with ranged damage builds and natural attack builds though, since the aim of those is to land as many attacks as possible with a full attack while PoW tries to provide worthwhile alternatives to full attacking.

Fool's Errand can do pretty okay with natural weapons while keeping reasonable damage, though, and Chimera Soul provides a lot of interesting flavorful options.

So now that I think about it, why the didn't they make it so that the Magus's spell combat improved with level, instead of just immediately giving you full everything. Like:

>at 1st level you would, as a full round action, make a single attack and cast a spell with a standard action cast time, keeping the penalty
>this lets you get a second attack if you use spellstrike with the spell, but not make any iteratives, even if your BaB would normally allow it
>at 4th or 5th level, it upgrades so it functions as it does now, as "full attack at a penalty to cast a spell at the same time)
>[insert other scaling bonuses related to spell combat here] that are optional and can be selected at various points

What are some good fluff reasons for a character to become a Void Kineticist? I really like the idea thematically and I like the powers I'd get as one, but trying to think of a good reason for why a character might become like this is running me into a wall.

Golarion standard setting if it helps.

The 3 act system would probably make a good new combat system if it was combined with put what path of war has.

No iterative attacks, power attack or such.
All classes instead learn new moves.
A bit more abstract versions rather than the already built in flavors of PoW
"Strike" "Heavy Strike" "Pierce"
The more abstract it is, the more room there is to roleplay it differently

You don't get additional traits just from Transformation, only the affects of the Form.

To get additional Traits you need Improved Transformation, which details how many you get.

/pfg/ settle an argument for me: what happens when I throw a flask of alchemist fire and a flammable object (hay or an open contained of oil) is in the splash zone? Does the object catch fire at all?
>>
>>50174437
That's entirely up to your DM. By RAW no, there would only be a fire if made a direct hit to the target, and it would burn itself out after two rounds. Your DM can say that the direct hit causes a fire but the splash doesn't because it's a very minor amount of damage, or they can say even a small spark is enough to set it off.

So let me see if I'm getting this
>Just the Transformation feat: No traits, just whatever form you chose
>Transformation+Improved feats: You can apply any traits from blank form, or any traits from forms you bought via feats, up to the trait limit
>Transformation+Improved feats and Alteration Sphere: Apply any traits from feats or talents to your form from Transformation at full HD for CL, up to the trait limit, and any alteration stuff not using the transformation feat uses your "real CL"

But what about:
>Transformation feat and Alteration sphere, no Improved: Feat says you can apply traits to the form from Transformation, but only traits from Blank Form, but you technically don't have any "trait slots"? Would you get traits from the sphere itself, or do you still require Improved Transformation to apply traits?
>If Transformation would get traits when you actually have the Alteration Sphere, do you then just get the ability to use traits from stuff other than blank form when taking Improved Transformation, or do you also get more traits?
>Since Transformation is not actually the Shapeshift spheres ability, would a spherecaster taking the Greater Transformation Talent or Extreme Transformation Talent not actually do anything for the Transformation feat?
>>
>>50174574
>you killed [INSERT REALLY DANGEROUS] thing by yourself/in one strike,
>>
>>50174437
By RAW, there's nothing about it, but it's an entirely logical sequence of events, like throwing a rock at a guard will likely piss him off.
>>
>>50174577
The thing to get is that Alteration and Transformation ONLY interact in that Alteration opens up more potential traits.

Transformation gets you the one form. Improved Transformation gets you traits from the basic ability, the form talent you chose, or from other Alteration talents you may have.

To those last three points though...

>That's a proviso so that Blank Form traits can be applied via Alteration even if you're transformed. Because your transformation is a Polymorph effect, without it, the two couldn't stack.

>Transformation itself doesn't get traits from Alteration, having alteration just opens up what traits you can add if you have those talents. For instance, you wouldn't be able to add Bestial Reflexes' Leaping Attack without having the Bestial Reflexes talent, which you need actual Alteration to have access to.

>It still helps. Traits you have on your Transformation count against your Alteration limit, but there's nothing stopping you from raising that limit. If your limit is three and you got three from Transformation already, jacking up your limit by two still gets you two more traits for Alteration. It doesn't do anything for the Transformation feat itself though. But recall you can suppress any amount of transformation traits to temporarily replace them with Alteration traits. (Also if you're a lowcaster your Transformation traits might be MORE than your Alt limit, so.)

I'm mostly just not sure whether the hybrid form is one specific form or if you can just mix it all up. How could one build a stand-user in Pathfinder?
-a character who has a soul which can physically interact with the outside world and has a semi-unique power.

If I could make a character that actually had that it would be the best, but if I were to just be permitted to re-fluff my character's abilities I would need to be able to:
> Strike with force/blunt at will, at a short to medium range
> stop projectiles without touching them, at-will
> stop melee attacks without physical interaction at-will

Avant Guard Kineticist
That one Psychic Warrior archetype in playtesting

A Stand, while a manifestation of ones psychic power, is still a part of the stand user, and often can be equally targeted and damaged just like the user. Its really not all that functionally different from a summoned or bound creature, especially since it only appears as stopping bullets and doing telekinesis to non-user who cannot perceive the existence of the Stand

Different anon,

I rule that addy weapons are not like light sabers in that they melt doors and walls like butter. Sure you can slash through them but that just leaves gouges, you have to specifically call for it and make sure you are not just going to town at it and hoping for the best. Walls are trickier as they can collapse and whatnot. Doors are easier as you can just cut the hinges off.

It's a matter of degrees, though. Changing the color of your hybrid form so, for example, you're a white-haired wolf-person instead of a brown-haired one is one thing. Changing your hybrid form from "just your base form with animal features" to "an actual dog that talks" is way, way different, though. Is /THAT/ outside the scope of things?

Granted you'd have spent a minimum of three feats, probably four, to do that. So if you can't, that's kind of stupid.

Gestalt allows more freedom in the ideas that people want, which is why I like it.

There's no arms race, because there's a gentlemans agreement with all games to not be an asshole. If you can't build a character, regardless of sources allowed, without being an asshole, then you won't be playing.

Thematically inappropriate classes means "You aren't playing a T1 Wizard in our low magic game of 6/9 casters", and "No, you aren't using a Mosin Nagant in classic standard pseudo-Tolkien fantasy unless we've adapted things"

Turn time limits is basically just an incredibly nebulous "If you're playing a summoner, have all your shit ready, and be good with your turns. Don't sit there fumbling for statblocks like an asshole."

The crafting thing is maybe game specific, but it at least stops people from going "Oh, I have six different feats that reduce my crafting cost and time, better break WBL over my knee entirely and toss it in a pit in the desert."

The races thing is because a setting where you've got a thousand different races that are all, if we're being honest here, basically just rubberforehead humans gets shitty. Keep it simple.
>>
>>50175604
Shifting disguise's limits are same number of limbs and same size. So human but actually a dog would work, youd just be a medium dog. Unless you have size change from Transformation.
